A good beginning but Adler leaves out important details.
With great illustrations, Adler gives us the bare facts of Columbus' life, however, he leaves out the passion of the man that children can really appreciate. Furthermore, Adler "forgets" that 1 reason Columbus sailed was to find new lands but another reason was to win converts to Christ. This & other historical information is lacking in his book. I was left with more questions than answers based on this book & will be looking elsewhere for these important answers. I wish the end of the book had a "parents note" with a synopsis of Columbus' life in more detail. ... Read more

Excellent Educationl Text
I'm a teacher and I find the Eyewitness books highly educational. I like the way the concepts are presented in a form without backgrounds. This gives clear facts to the reader without over taxing the attention span. The books are highly informative, presenting difficult concepts in comprehendable chunks that stimulate interest. I have almost the whole collection for my own children and they LOVE them!

Great Book
Gold Fever by Roz Schanzer is a terrific book, not only with the information that it covers, but with its glorious illustrations. The children I teach are totally entralled when we read this book together. Hope to see more great work from this author/illustrator in the future.

Gold Fever! Tales from the California Gold Rush
The story of the California gold rush is told through (short) actual quotes from those involved, arranged in a sequential manner. This non-fiction book is entertaining and informative and reads like a comic book. It is a historical edition and has excellent color illustrations. Recommended reading for 1st through the 6th grade, as well as the teachers of these grades,

Adults as well as children love this book.
The quotes make the telling very readable and enjoyable. I like the style of paper and the way Ms Schanzer did the pictures, told the story and made the reader feel like he/she had more information and a feel for the times. Good work! ... Read more

What about 'Discoveries and Inventions' from India
Many nice pictures but the title of this book may have reflected its contents better if it had been '1000 Inventions and Discoveries from mainly Europe, China, Egypt and the Middle East'. Although it mentions discoveries from 3,000,000 BC, there is practically no mention of any significant discovery from India. The thousands of potential readers of Indian origin and those who know about the great discoveries India has contributed to the world may not appreciate such an 'oversight'. ... ... Read more

An Incredible Journey
Living in upstate NY, the Hudson is a majestic presence flowing by on it's way to the city. I'd been to the source, and parts here and there, but this book was an amazing opportunity to travel the entire length of the river, see the sights and get to know the many characters of the river.
