5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for kids
I got this "Arthur" CD for my (90 year-old) mother because she loves Clay Aiken -- but she and several of the other residents of the nursing home adore the whole thing and feel more in touch with grandchildren or greatgrandchildren. The variety of voices is terrific, and it's very well produced.

5-0 out of 5 stars What's really cool about this audiobook...
This is a great product because I can really enjoy listening to these stories while playing them for my son. He definitely loves it, but he's too young to know who Kelly Ripa or Clay Aiken or Tom Arnold really is. It's just so interesting and entertaining for me as a parent to listen to each celeb's unique reading style and performance. I found it comparable to watching 'Finding Nemo' and knowing Ellen Degeneres was the voice of Dorie or listening to 'Mike Myers' voice as Shrek. It just adds something special you don't find in other audio products, especially those meant for kids.

The interactive Arthur games, music and activities are just a delightful bonus. Anything to promote learning is a plus in my book. Definitely a warm fuzzy feeling too knowing some of this goes to support charity. A great product all around and thanks for making it!

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!!!
WOW!!!!!My Daughter loved it and I found myself enjoying the audiobook as well. I guess I'm still a kid at heart and that's very refreshing!!!!And the fact that the proceeds go to non-profits is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't Put It Down!!!
I just got my copy yesterday and the kids and I can't put it down! The readings were really well done and amusing... we enjoyed Clay Aiken and Kelly Ripa's stories the most. Cheri Oteri's is by far the funniest. My kids really loved the bonus features as well such as the interactive games, Arthur song and Arthur pictures.

As a Mom, it's nice to know that I can give my kids a fun and educational product and that it's all for a good cause! Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it!
My kids and I love listening to this audiobook. Each author had a different take on the story they were reading and my kids seemed to respond to all of them, especially Kevin Bacon!

The Arthur series is always enjoyable and with the proceeds going to charity, you can't go wrong with this purchase. I recommend it highly! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Tooth
Arthur's Tooth by Marc Brown is a book that any kid that's about to loose a tooth would enjoy. In this story Arthur is the last to loose a tooth. He feels behind and awkward for it. Everyone tries to help him loose it, but nothing ever succeeds. Finally, Francine, the bully of the group, that hassles Arthur for not loosing a tooth yet, jabs Arthur in the mouth, and knocks his tooth right out!

Arthur was my favorite character in this story. Arthur felt embarrassed that he had never lost a tooth before, and while everyone else was loosing their baby teeth, his was just getting loose. Poor, innocent Arthur. But at the end he shows them that he's no different. Read the book to find out the details!

5-0 out of 5 stars Losing A Tooth
Another great book from the Arthur series. The book is about Arthur, the last student in the class to lose his first baby tooth. Some of the other students in the class make fun of Arthur, because he still has all his baby teeth. Other students try to help Arthur's tooth fall out, but nothing works. Finally an accident causes Arthur to lose his tooth. This book teaches children to be patient and to help their friends. It also teaches them that everyone is different. I really like this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars We LOVE the Arthur books!
We are first grade students at the Anna Merritt Elementary School. Our teacher did a Marc Brown author study. She read Arthur's Tooth to us and we loved the book. Javeon and Cory liked the part when Arthur wanted to pull out his tooth with his hand. Nicholas and Jacob liked the part when Arthur lost his tooth. Marissa liked the part when Francine knocked Arthur's tooth out. We hope Marc Brown writes a lot more Arthur stories! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Weather Games
This book is excellent! I have a 20 month old who loves Blue's Clues and we have recently discovered this book series. As any fan of this show would expect, this book offers plenty of opportunities to interact with your child as they discover the effects of different types of weather in Blue's backyard. My child's language development has been enhanced by naming and pointing to the items in the brilliantly colored pictures. This book immediately captured my child's attention and even though we read it every day she still gets excited when I pull it out for her! As a Child Development Specialist by day and a Mommy by night, I can't say enough good things about this board book and the others offered in this series! ... Read more

Book Description

Are some of the world's most talented children's book authors essentially children themselves? In this engaging series of essays, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alison Lurie considers this theory, exploring children's classics from many eras and relating them to the authors who wrote them, including Little Women author Louisa May Alcott and Wizard of Oz author Frank Baum, as well as Dr. Seuss and Salman Rushdie. Analyzing these and many others, Lurie shows how these gifted writers have used children's literature to transfigure sorrow, nostalgia, and the struggles of their own experiences. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars horrible harry goes to the moon
This book is about a boy named Harry,

Harry finds an ad in his pocket about a used telescope for sale...I like this book becouse I like space things. This book is all about space. The charaters were funny in the story.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well, what third grader WOULDN'T want to go to the moon?
Actually, the point of "Horrible Harry Goes to Moon" is not so much that Harry makes it to the Moon as it is that he takes pretty much the rest of his class with him (Mary Berg would never be persuaded to follow Harry to the moon, but then she has her own problems concerning being able to jump high in the air and finding an appropriate selling price for Full Moon Cookies). But when Miss Mackle shows up with a purple couch covered with yellow moons for her Third Grade class, the moon suddenly become an intensive object of study for Harry, Song Lee, and the rest of the kids (except for Sidney, who would rather tell jokes).

Suzy Kline's story is apparently based on her 1998-99 third grade class and the "tag sale" telescope that took them on their first trip to the moon. Not surprisingly, "Horrible Harry Goes to the Moon" should inspired other teachers to try a similar approach in their own classrooms (my favorite scene is when Miss Mackle shows up with a suitcase packed full of stuff for a trip to the moon and the kids tell her which things she should not take there and why).

However, young readers wanting to read about what horrible things Harry does in this new adventure will discover he does not do anything particularly horrible at all in this story. In fact, he pretty much does the exact opposite.

3-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Computer Disaster
"Arthur's Computer Disaster" was a cute book. Any child would enjoy it. It's not only an easy reader that they would like reading, but it teaches a lesson. -What happens when your break the rules.

Arthur's hooked on this new computer game. His mom tells him not to play it while she's gone, but he does it anyway, even with his sister, D.W., warning him. Arthur accidently "breaks" the computer, his mother gets home, and punishes him. All in all, he learns a lesson.

D.W. is my favorite character, because she's so sweet and innocent, just like all little sisters are. She warns her brother, and he chooses not to listen, and ends up "breaking" the computer.

3-0 out of 5 stars For non readers only
Book is on the level of SEE SPOT RUN. Not for young readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's in trouble now!
This is a great book to teach kids what happens when you break the rules. Arthur's mom tell him he can't play his new computer game while she's gone. But the game is really cool, and he doesn't mean to play it, exactly, just show it to Buster. But, as you might guess, things don't work out that way. Arthur is convinced he has broken the computer. D. W. worries that they will now be homeless, and it will all be his fault. But Mom is able to fix the computer and they all learn a lesson about following the rules.

As a Mom, I wish I could be as fair and calm as Arthur's Mom. She never yells or freaks out. She just grounds Arthur from the computer. And he admits that's fair, which my kids probably would not do. This is a great story about a very common situation. Kids and parents will relate to this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Computer Disaster a Book sensation
This book is a great book for much reason. 1 reason is that it is a book that it is a book that any kid could enjoy. This book has the idea of truth and it is a great book with descriptive words. The book has wonderful art and a great story line. It earns 4 stars in my head and 5 or above in a small kids head. I extremely recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Arthur does it again!
This is such a good story that kids today can really relate to. It teaches that even when you disobey and mess something up, you should always 'fess up. Most often, the parents are able to fix things back. I'm glad, too, that the author included a suitable punishment for Author's misbehavior, so that the readers might understand that even though adults can fix things, he still had to suffer the consequences. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Series is a hit with my 2nd Grader!
My second grade son loves Horrible Harry. And as the mother of this reluctant reader, I was thrilled when he found this series. He has read every one our school library has and is now looking for more. (Which is why I am here at Amazon!) He's enjoyed every one he's read, though Drop of Doom is probably his favorite. Hats off to Suzy Kline!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is not "Horrible" at all!
Horrible Harry and the Drop of Doom by Suzy Kline is a good book. The main characters are Harry and Song Lee. It starts out when Sidney dares Harry to try the Drop of Doom, an amusement park ride. Harry realizes that it's an elevator ride and Harry hates elevators! Next the children go to Song Lee's house for a party. They go to an amusement park for fun. First they went to the haunted house. The ride stopped and a ghost popped out in their face. Then it blacked out, the ride turned on and they got out safely. The next ride was the Drop of Doom! Finally, Harry gets on with Song Lee. It starts going up and up. The elevator door opened up to show the whole amusement park. Then the door closed! Song Lee squeezed Harry's hand, and then AHHHH the Drop of Doom dropped fast down. Harry made it. I highly recommend Horrible Harry and the Drop of Doom by Suzy Kline. By reading this book Harry will teach you two valuable lessons. First, always face your fears no matter how scary they are. Second, never forget that your friends are there to help you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Drop of Doom?
A charming story of some very believable second graders and a trip to a theme park with a scary ride. When harry is afraid to ride it, Song Lee and Doug, the narrator, help to give their friend some courage. Meanwhile, another boy is making fun of him and a little girl wants nothing to do with him. The story shows how we all have fears that the support of our friends can help us to overcome. The characters do not have much time to develop, but are very real. Song Lee and her mother are Korean. Their dialogue is written with their accent to show diversity. This is a good book for middle second-graders and above to get used to the style of chapter books. Chapters are less than ten pages, with large type and always an illustration.

Why 4 stars?:
The bully character can get a little out of hand. I would have expected someone to step in and not let him torment Harry as much. Still, this is a good book that will serve as a good introduction to chapter books. The nice part about this series is a reader can start anywhere without missing too much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Harry is scared on the Drop of Doom!
Horrible Harry and the Drop of Doom

A Book Report By ...

I am writing a review of the book Horrible Harry and the Drop of Doom. This book is one in a series of 'horrible Harry' books. This one happens to be an adventure of sorts. It is also filled with action and funny at times too.

Horrible Harry and the Drop of Doom is a book that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, but it is written to be read by kids from ages seven to eleven. People who like action and adventure are sure the like this book. I will tell you a little about this book.

Harry, the main character, and his friends finish their second grade year by going to an amusement Park. Harry is dared by his enemy, Sidney, to ride a new ride called 'The Drop of Doom'. This story tells about Harry' s struggle to overcome his fears. It talks about the importance of friendship and the power of peer pressure. It certainly discusses many issues kids this age face now.

I give this book a high recommendation. It is sure to hold your attention until the very end. I give Horrible Harry and the Drop of Doom 'two thumbs up'

4-0 out of 5 stars Diane Wilson and Summer Book Club Dryden NY

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun and educational book for Blues Clues fans
My two boys love this book and usually read it every day. It has over 50 flaps for the children to lift up and play a game of Blues Clues along with Steve, Blue and their friends. I think it keeps the kids interest because it allows them to think as they read along. The book is full of educational references to numbers, letters and telling time. My 2-year-old reads this book and then refers to objects around the house that he has read about and learned. I love this book and it has made my children very happy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Blue fans--just wish the flaps weren't so flimsy!
I bought this for my 19-month-old son because it combines two of his favorite things: Blue's Clues and flap books. We have three other flap books, and he is admittedly hard on them. However, the cardboard on this book is especially easy to bend. I have to bite my tongue when he gets overly enthusiastic...after all, it *is* his book and I want him to enjoy reading, not be admonished for relishing the flaps! But while most of them are now lovingly bent (making the book kind of "puffy" when closed), he has not ripped them off. I have gotten over it, but if you're one to get "bent out of shape" over bent-out-of-shape flaps, this might not be the best choice.

On a more positive note, he loves the pictures. The colors are trademark bright, and the hide-and-finds are clever. I like the positive message that Blue's favorite place is school, too. Despite the "flap" flap, I'm considering the purchase of the birthday flap book simply because he loves this one so much!

5-0 out of 5 stars She could find this book if it were in Shri Lanka
This has been my 2 year old's favorite book since she was 10 months old. Seeing all her friends from Blue's Clues makes it interesting, and the colors are bold and the illustrations just like the show. The jillions of flaps are just what my curious girl needs. Many of the flaps are bent or missing now, but I plan to just buy a new one when it gets too beat up. It's a very large book though, can be hard to tote around when your on outings or trips.

Bought this book for my 16-month old grandson and he was facinated from the beginning. Loved the tabs that lift up and finding the pictures underneath. My daughter put it away for a few days and pulled it out as her "secret weapon" for a recent plane trip! I can highly recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book, bad flaps
I gave this book to my 20-month old daughter to keep her occupied on a recent plane trip. She absolutely loved it, and with so many flaps she was busy for a long time.

However, like others have mentioned, the flaps don't hold up to a little person's "excited" grasp. She has ripped 22 of the flaps off, and although I tape them back on, they don't hold very well, and usually come off again during the next flip-through.

She too seems a little young for some of the things the book wants you to do, but soon she will be able to. She loves the book which is the important thing. If you have a child who likes Blue and lift-the-flap books (as mine does!) I would recommend this book. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars great story, horrible translation
The third Harry Potter book is awesome. The author really lets the characters evolve and be more real than the previous two books. She lets them have more emotional depth and it's great.

The translation, however, is not that great. There are parts where I simply do no understand why the translators chose one word instead of some other, much better, alternative.

I agree with the first reviewer. The Spanish language can lend itself really well to certain things, and children's literature is definitely one of them. This translation could have been so different. There was such potential and it was just completely ignored.

Here's an example:

The title of the first chapter is "Lechuzas Mensajares," which means "Messenger Owls." The title of the first chapter in the English book is "Owl Post." I simply don't understand why the translators didn't translate it as "Correo de Lechuza" or even a less grammatically correct "Lechuza Correo" or any other variant of the two words.

It really is a good book, it's just sad the translation doesn't do it justice. The publishers really should retranslate it.

1-0 out of 5 stars desapointing
after reading all the Harry Potter books in english wich i enjoyed extreamly, was looking forward to find how much fun would it be to read them in spanish (my first language) also. i'm so desapointed with this "dictionary" translation, the book lacks feeling, fluidity, i find it choppy and to my amaizment was to find SO many gramar incorrectness in the book, this translation shows no real effort to capture the spirit of the caracters. it's a shame that the translators did not take advantages of all the posibilities that such a great language as spanish offers to give this book the same feeling and fun to read as the english versions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
Out of all the Harry Potter books, this would be my favourite! I loved how Sirius was so nice to Harry! I also liked how there was so much about Harry's Parents. I loved this book especially when they all found out that his dad was a Animagus along with everyone else.. I was so upset when I found out that it was ***** who dies in the next book! I haven't even read it yet and I'm sad anyway!

5-0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter Review
I am reviewing the book Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The author of this book is J.K Rowling. I thought this book was very interesting. It all starts out when Harry's parents were killed by Voldemort. They said that Sirius Black betrayed Harry's father by being Lord Voldemort's spy. Harry hears about this and wants to go and kill him. His friend Hagrid is losing the case against his animal Buckbeak. Harry, Ron, and Hemione go to Hagrid's house the day of the execution, but he tells them to go back to Hogwarts. On their way back, Ron gets stuck on the Whooping Willow, the tree. To Harry and Hermione's surprise, theyfind Black in there. Read this book to find out what Black has to say and do about what he is being accused of.

Story and graphics were poor. This is just a bunch of screen shots from the curious george movies, and has no real story line. Any of the books that are derived from the movies seem to have similar problems.

4-0 out of 5 stars My daughter loves this book
My little girl loves this book. She loves Winnie the Pooh and says his name over and over as we read this story. She loves to slide the little honeypots back and forth as we read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very cute and entertaining!
This is a great little book!! It has been one of my son's favorites since he was a couple months old. On the top of the book is a plastic strip, complete with 5 plastic honeypots that slide back and forth. Each time Pooh gets a honeypot in the book, you can slide a honeypot across the top. It's great for teaching both numbers and colors! My only complaint is that the plastic strip is red and one of the honeypots is also red, which makes it a bit hard to see. They really should have used a color for the plastic strip that is different from all the honeypots.

All-in-all, it's a VERY cute little book that has adorable pictures of Pooh and his friends, educational value in numbers and colors, and fun toys to keep the interest. Highly recommended!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A really good book for kids.
Although Disney did not invent Winnie the Pooh (these were originally written by A.A.Milne), Disney has managed to produce a book that is shocking in its complexity, yet vibrant in its attitude toward life. When we first encounter Pooh, it is at a moment of striving. The five honey pots, perhaps representing his lost youth, or the five stages of man, are tantalizingly out of his reach. Soon afterwards, a struggle ensues. Pooh reaches beyond himself, and in the company of his closest friends (Eyore, Piglet, and Tigger) he manages to attain one of the honeypots. His symbolic gluttony (perhaps a reference to today's materialistic society) is well described at the "four honeypot" stage. The story is nearing the peak of its arc when we find only three honey pots left "all in a row". The symbolism of the three remaining pots is clear. As we head towards the denumont of the story, there are two honey pots remaining. Pooh practically ravages the penultimate pot of honey in a shockingly violent display that troubled this reader for weeks. By the end, with one remaining honey pot, Pooh is faced with a decision - should he take the last honey pot, or should he leave it? We're left to a decision that will trouble some, amaze others, but will leave none disappointed. If you buy only one six-page book this year, make it this one. Oh, and my four month old son thinks this book is delicious. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great new story
After reading the original 5 or 6 Curious George stories to my 2 year old son about a hundred times, it is refreshing to see some new adventures. We just picked up this book today after going to the dump and my son just loves it. The spirit of the original stories is still there while the artwork is slightly more crisp and detailed. I look forward to reading the other new stories!

5-0 out of 5 stars Little Boys Love It!
A dump truck, a lever that gets pulled not once but twice, and robbers! What a combo and George is a hero again. I hope someday that they bring this version out of print. My boys loved it and my preschool boys page through it everyday! It is also a great springboard to the other great Curious George books.

5-0 out of 5 stars A family favorite
My 3 year old loves Curious George books and all kinds of heavy equipment so combining the two means it's one of his favorite books, and just like George he is always curious especially about George and why he is doing what he is doing. In our house both my 3 year old and 17 month old would sooner read about Curious George than watch tv. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Horrible Harry and the Purple People
Harry always had a creative and vivid imagination, but now he is seeing purple people in the classroom! But the bad part is that he can only see these purple people. And so no one belives harry- not even Doug his best friend. But all of a sudden strange and unexplainable things are starting to happen in Harrys classroom 2B!Is Harry playing a trick, or are the purple people real.well you will half to find out. So read the book because it is a great mystersy book and wonderful book too. BY SAMMY

5-0 out of 5 stars Horrible Harry and the Purple People
I enjoyed Horrible Harry and the Purple People by Suzy Kline. It was a great book because Harry is cool. I laughed at all the different things that happened to Harry and his friends at school. It was neat how Harry used the purple ruler and the teacher from the bee. The thing that happened was when Harry showed the purple br pouring grape juice over his friend's head. I'm sure glad it wasn't me!

3-0 out of 5 stars Realistic portrait of classroom dynamics
Every classroom has to have a class clown, and in Miss Mackle's second grade class, Horrible Harry takes the honor. His vivid imagination generally amuses the class and teacher, but his latest stunt, involving purple people that only he can see, has raised the ire of Mary, one of his classmates.

Kline, a teacher, has painted a realistic portrait of classroom dynamics. You can tell her characters are drawn from real life, even if her scenarios seem a bit unreal and sketchy. The conclusion is a bit hasty, and we never find out whether the purple people are real, or why Mary is behaving like such a pill. But the humor is gentle, the drawings illuminating and kids should enjoy the easy read.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved it and it was a very good book!
