5-0 out of 5 stars A Rare Treasure
Author Beverly Evans has given us a rare treasure. Her first book, "The Room In My Heart," is a lyrical, soul-stirring paean to the inviolable love between a mother and her children. Evans, herself the mother of three, has fashioned a tender, faith-based parable about the challenges faced by an expectant mom who must reassure her firstborn of her permanent place in Mommy's heart. Superbly illustrated by Christopher Nick, this beautiful edition will be embraced by future generations of moms and kids as a testament to the eternal power of maternal and spiritual love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Raising Dragons raises the bar
Excellent fantasy. Captivating. Fast-paced. Well-written. My thirteen year old could not put it down and either could I. Can't say enough good things about this book. Buy it. Read it. Pass it on.

5-0 out of 5 stars A THRILLING piece of literature! (...)
We were at a homeschool conference and we were asked to review this book. I started it the next day and I finished both books in the series in two days. I couldn't put them down.
I love all of the characters! Billy, Bonnie, Walter, the professor....it's beautifully written and very exciting. I can't wait until the next one comes out! (...)

5-0 out of 5 stars Late Night Reading
In Raising Dragons, Bryan Davis has infused fantasy into every teenager's normal high school experience. The result is riveting. The adventure mixes believable characters with heart-thumping suspense. Readers will be furiously reading late into the night.

5-0 out of 5 stars Haunting and Heroic
Dragons in Our Midst takes the reader into the world of Billy Bannister, a regular kid who goes to school, has friends, and lives in West Virginia. The one odd thing about Billy is a rather unusual quality, his breath is hot. I don't mean a sunny day at the beach, I mean blistering heat. He tries to keep this a secret, but he can't. He lives like this untill he learns the truth about himself. The truth will change his life...

I loved this book because it was a captivating story that was both haunting and heroic. The writer has also not forgotten the elements of entertainment and humor. The writing is very clever and in my opinion is Davis' masterpiece, and remember, this is just the beggining... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This was very helpful to my little brother. He was able to learn much more about the Bible, especially when he listened and compared the verses from his favorite CD,
SCRIPTURE ROCK.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Lot
This was one of three Bibles I purchased over the summer and of those three it is my "favorite." Considering its intended audience of 8-to-12 year olds it is a success. The translation, "New Living" is very readable. The passages are indeed among the most important. The font is easy on the eyes. So far the cover has not curled. The book does not lie flat when opened.
You can get through the Old Testamanet by June. Little attention is given to the minor prophets. There are only three excerpts from Revelation at the end.
There is a very "evangelical" tone as almost every passage has an interpretation which emphasizes the need for Jesus to be your Savior.
I think this would be a good version of the Bible (although not a complete Bible) to develop the habit of daily reading while still being very readable at the target age. I dare say a youngster who can go through this edition several times over a 3 or 4 year period will be very familiar with the most important sections and stories, and ready to move on to a more advanced version.

I have enjoyed this Bible so very much. My kids and I read every night. It has things to consider at the end of every reading that relate to everyday life. Great family gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the "Best of the Bible" for kids.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice
If you are like me and [can't resist] a happy ending, then you'll love this book. I really enjoyed it. It's message is a clear, strong and true point; you can't take your focus off God at all. I really enjoyed reading this book, one because it's message, two because of the cute story and three because it was tasteful. I would suggest that anyone thinking of trying an endeavor without God to check this out first.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sizzling like beef bacon
Flame by Stephanie Perry Moore

Bacall Lee prayed a selfish prayer asking God to send her a guy who's handsome, popular, charming and lovable. That prayer went from her mouth straight to God's ears. Awhile later Bacall was at a party with friends, where she meets Rory Kerry. Bacall thinks Rory is the one, tall, dark, handsome and bald. One night temptation shows its head. Will Bacall continue to keep God first, and save herself for her husband? Or push her beliefs aside and taste temptation.

Flame was a wonderful uplifting read; it is categorized for young adults, but everyone will get something from Flame. I closed the book with a challenge, to get to know God. I want to feel that burning passion Bacall and the Rev. Brandon Lee talked about throughout Flame. This book is a page turner you need to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful chrisitan novel
Flame is the love story of Bacall and Rory. Bacall is just graduating from college, and lands a job at a record company. Rory becomes a big time singer, which makes Rory Jealous of all the attention he gets from other women. Bacall tries not to let lust take over her Chrisitan values, while dating Rory, but finds out that it's not always so easy. This is a good book for all people in a relationship to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good read
Flame is a good read. You have a preacher's daughter that meets the man of her dreams at a college talent and step show. They fall for each other and encounter seperation, sex, drugs, jealousy, murder, superstardom, along the way before they can be together. It is a good Christian fiction in the vein of Singsation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flame
Flame is a great inspirational novel for all women young and old. It moved me to tears when Bacall thought she had lost it all and that God was not pleased with her. I was truly blessed from reading this novel. I know first hand what God can do in your life and Ms. Moore certainly relates His grace and mercy in this book. Everyone who reads it will be truly blessed, and it leaves you feeling "God is Good!" ... Read more

Refusing to change her image to fit into the "stereotypical Christian preppy mold," Chloe expresses God's love and grace through the girl band she forms, Redemption. In her development as a musician and performer, tender-hearted Chloe will learn tough lessons about following God, her heart, and her dreams. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the best book in the series so far
I liked the Caitlin O'Conner books in this series, but I like Chloe better. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I am an aspiring musician myself, or maybe it is because I could totally relate to Chloe. Book five in the Diary of a Teenage girl series follows Chloe Miller, the younger sister to Josh Miller, Caitlin O'Conner's former boyfriend. Josh is now a Christian himself, but his sister, older brother, and parents are not. Chloe begins to ask questions about religion in this book, especially after she gets beat up and then meets Allie, an aspiring Wiccan. Chloe is the polar opposite of Caitlin, the first character in many ways. For one thing, she visits the cemetery regularly, writes poetry that she turns into music, and dresses and acts entirely different than the first character. I liked Chloe better because she wasn't perfect. I also liked the general message that Carlson tries to deliver from Chloe's story--one about forgiveness and letting God use you. This book is just plain awesome. I recommend you buy it, you'll want to read it over and over!

5-0 out of 5 stars sooooo good!
Ok, so I thought that now we are moving on to a new character in this series that it would, well, pale in comparison to the first four books. I was proved wrong. Melody Carlson have created another character who will steal you're heart and feel her pain. I was home all day and I read the book in a day, i could NOT put it down! I recommend this for any teenage girl!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
Though I was disappointed at first that this book was about Chloe and not Caitlin from the other Diary books, I was pleasantly surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and I feel more teens can relate to Chloe. She's not as 'perfect' as Caitlin, and she's more 'in your face.' You won't be disappointed when if you decide to read this book. Now I just want to know more about Caitlin and what she's doing. I hope Carlson continues to write about her, as well as Chloe. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Addition to Chloe's Story
Chloe Miller tells of her journey as a developing musician in her band, Redemption. She faces many hindrances and problems with her friend and bass player, Laura Mitchell, her oldest brother, Caleb, and her very good friend, Cesar. Chloe is just a normal teenager, even if her band is becoming increasingly popular. Nevertheless, even if I adore this novel, I know Melody Carlson can do better. I enjoyed the Caitlin O'Connor books much more, and I am overjoyed that the ninth and final book in the series will again be from Caitlin's point of view. I hope every Christian teen girl will read this series, and don't forget to read Face the Music, Chloe's last book, which comes out in early summer 2004.

5-0 out of 5 stars engaging look at the troubles of teens
The Christian rock group Redemption is on its way to fame and glory when it signs a major contract and tour as the opening act for the highly regarded male group, Iron Cross. As the trio travels the road by bus, they will find trials and tribulations riding with them.

Chloe, Allie and Laura soon find the grind of touring taking its toll on each one of them. Laura seems off kilter, turning introspectively moodier by the minute. Chloe looks like she is ready to bolt for home every time a crowd gathers around the trio though she finds some solace with Allie's mom and her Down's syndrome brother. However, the one in deepest troubled waters is Allie, whose showing a growing dependence on drugs that could destroy her career and end Redemption's dreams of success.

The latest teenage girl novel, ROAD TRIP, is an engaging look at the troubles of teen life especially those under the spotlight of fame. The story line may be Chloe's diary, but actually is mostly told in third person narration between the key cast members as each suffers from doubts and woes that make them so human instead of preachy paragons. Melody Carlson provides a warm, but frank Christian teen tale that will provide plenty of enjoyment yet inspire young and old to more than just tolerate others. Anyone who has not read the previous novels of this motivating interesting series such as I AM CHLOE will, like this reviewer, want to obtain them.

1-0 out of 5 stars totally disrespects birthparent's roles
As a birthmother of a beautiful 6 month old daughter in a fully open adoption, I was sick to my stomach when I read this book. The only mention of either birthparent was the small reference adressing the birthmother as a "birthlady". I for one, as well as the many other corageous and wonderful woman I've met, who made the gut wrenching, and most selfless decison one could ever be asked to do, that is to place our child in a home we knew we could not provide, for the pure sake of our children's well being deserve more respect than one measly little sentance about our loss and decison whether the adoption is open or closed. I believe that children who are adopted are special gifts from God and that they were meant to be with their adoptive families, as the book addresses but to let your adopted child think that they were not born and that God just placed them here through the means of this middle man type figure, and that their "birthlady" has not suffered and missed them and thought about them everyday since,is not only confusing for a child, who may be unsure why he or she was adopted but could also make a child feel sad. I think that a book that addresses how much the adopted family loves each other and how they are meant to be together is great, but I think that one with a little more respect for birthparents, that mentions them as the real people that they are, not angels sent from God, would be a lot more appropriate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, Positive, Christian Book on Adoption
This is the best adoption book I've seen for explaining adoption to children! It focuses on the adoption being part of God's plan. It starts in heaven where baby angels are learning baby skills to earn their stars and be born. The Great Guardian Angel shows each child the parents "God wants YOU to have". The babies instantly love the parents they are shown. Amy, a soon to be adopted child, sees her parents and sees the "Light of Love" - shining from their hearts. Charlie, who will live with his biological parents, sees the Light of Love in his parents plus the "Glow of Life" in his mommy. Amy is sad because she does not think her parents are ready for her, as her mommy does not have the Glow of Life in her tummy. The Great Guardian explains that her parents have been praying for her arrival for a long time and are more than ready. Amy is also shown her birthmother, who is described as having ..."love so dear to do God's will for Amy here. She (birthmother) is God's messenger who will deliver you to your parents."

When Charlie is born, he goes to his parents by train. The Great Guardian Angel tells Amy she will arrive by boat. "I don't care how I get there. I just want to go HOME", replies Amy. When Amy is ready to be born the sailboat is surrounded by angels, which the Great Guardian Angel explains as angels wanting to "feel the special joy of your parents' love too." Amy falls asleep in the sailboat and wakes up with her adoptive parents.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just too silly...
My wife and I are practicing Christians and have two beautiful adopted daughters of African-American and Hispanic descent. We found that the book was too far out there in its use of a religious setting and we didn't like that all of the children are caucasian. Many adoptive parents have children who are not caucasian. Also, we felt that the birthmother was really disrespected by being called birthlady. Any woman who voluntarily puts their child up for adoption out of love for the child deserves to be called birthmother.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but not enough discussion of birthparents
My almost 5 year old really likes this book, and I like it also because it discusses adoption from a spiritual perspective. However, I was left uncomfortable with how it only lightly touches on the important role of the birthmother (and doesn't mention birthfathers at all). The use of the words "birth lady" felt awkward to me, since I think birthmothers deserve more recognition than that. Besides that point, I would highly recommend it for adopted children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amy Angel goes home - a fairy tale come true
When my wife and I were "soon to be" adoptive parents I read the reviews for this book, smiled and cried, then ordered it immediately. This is the most heart warming book I've read about adoption, described and illustrated in a somewhat spiritual way that children (and adults alike) can understand. I've recommended and bought the book as a present for other adoptive parents as well. And, through a twist of fate later discovered that my wife and I know the author! Our 18 month old adopted daughter will soon be understanding this wondrous story of how God planned for her to be our child, and the journey that she took to be with us. ... Read more

Book Description

Every child has bad dreams. But the Bible tells us that our God is strong and loving and wants to protect us. And children can cling to that wonderful truth, using it to help drive fearful feelings away.

In The Dream Quilt, a little boy named Michael is having trouble with bad dreams. Then one day, Michael learns about the special quilt game Granny Rose used to play with his mother when she was little and had bad dreams. He wants to play, too. The game works. Michael's dreams are now quite lovely. But when the quilt gets taken away, he learns that it wasn't the blanket that protected him at all-and that the only thing he really needs to feel secure is the God who keeps him warm and loved...and safe.

Through repeated rhymes, bright colors, and a charming story line, The Dream Quilt helps to instill in children a confidence in God, as well as reinforce the bond between parent and child. Best of all, it gives moms and dads a greatly-needed, easy-to-use tool to help get children through their toughest nights-and teach them about the God who will love them throughout all their days. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Dream Quilt is a sweet journey.
The Dream Quilt is a beautifully illustrated story that will delight adults and children of all ages. The morals and character of a family our based down through the beauty and tradition of a family heirloom. A must for teachers, parents, and friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Casting out fears by trusting God
So many books today give children false hope through fanciful tales of magic "things". There are some cute stories out there about necklaces that give little girls confidence, or teddy bears that offer security and freedom from fears, even stuffed bunnies who teach lessons of how to love. But I always find myself explaining to my daughters that our true hope and our most lasting lessons, come from the Lord - anytime we are frightened or lonely or disappointed, we can trust that the Lord will comfort us and give us strength.

Celeste Ryan weaves a beautiful mix of sentiment and faith by showing us how we look for something tangible to trust for our comfort (the quilt), but all things of this world will eventually pass away - God is the eternal comforter, healer, confidante, friend.

This book is a favorite in our house. The illustrations are eye-catching and unique, the story is smooth and entertaining, and the message is one that will stick with you. The Dream Quilt may be directed at juveniles, but I guarantee adults will enjoy it, as well

5-0 out of 5 stars Security is Sublime
This book has impressed children of all ages with the security in kowing God's love. I liked the colorful descriptions and the peaceful tone of the book. One child asked me if he could have a quilt with colors so he could dream colorful dreams , too. Awesome book - hope Mrs. Ryan writes more!

Book Description

The birth of Jesus was a Glorious Impossible. Like love, it cannot be explained, it can only be rejoiced in. And that is what master storyteller Madeleine L'Engle does in this compellingly written narrative, inspired by Giotto's glorious frescoes from the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua. With a simple clarity that illuminates the life of Christ, Madeleine L'Engle gives eloquent voice to the miracle of God's love. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very glad to see this is still in print
I bought this as a gift for my niece/goddaughter about 11 years ago and have wished I'd got one for myself ever since. It is simply gorgeous with a very moving text. You don't have to be a committed believer to enjoy this lovely book.

5-0 out of 5 stars bought this book for a friend and wished she'd kept it.
As an artist with an Master's degree in painting, I was amazed by the stunning reproductions in this "children's" book, and kept looking at it, and looking at it. The reproductions are so vivid, the text so appropriate, and the book so well designed that I could almost imagine I was walking through the chapel myself. It was the first time I'd seen the frescos in an order the artist intended, which made them even more powerful. Eventually the book went to a friend who admires frescos, but there was such a sense of intimacy in it that I've been searching for another copy for well over a year. The text and the images meld beautifully, and I can honestly say it's the first story of Christ's life I've seen where I felt the illustrations or text didn't "get in the way". Even if you're a fesco fan who's more interested in Giotto than in the story, tear up your check for that expensive art book and buy this first.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jesus' life in great frescoes
As an art educator, church librarian, and special lecture person who links art with religion at my church, I can highly recommend this gorgeous book to you. Madeleine L'Engle is one of my favorite writers and she presents the life of Christ in flowing prose. I even picked up a few facts I did not know. The book is illustrated using various panels from the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, Italy which adds sumptuousness to its narrative. As a child I was drawn to picture books like this because of their medieval, almost Oriental appearance, so if you wish to influence your children to appreciate a good story well told and illustrated, select this book. The text is on an 9-13 year old level. The "glorious impossible" is something that cannot be explained but only rejoiced in, and I think that sums up God's gift of Jesus to us in a very satisfying way. Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars THought provoking and beautiful
I remember reading this book in the store when it first came out, and it has stuck with me since. Madeline L' Engle gives a thoughtful, sensitive twist on a timeless story, and writes iin such a prose that you could easily imagine reading aloud to young children. I have searched for it for years, and am pleased to discover it in print again.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best children's Bible book I've ever seen
Are you looking for a book to read to your children to share your faith, tell the story of Christ, and inspire your child and yourself to feel the joys of giving, forgiveness, commitment, and love? This is THE book for you. L'Engle's extraodinary and inspiring writing style was never so beautiful as in this faithful retelling of the Gospels. It uses both simple, everyday language and the more complex quotes of the Bible to render a tale that is both easy to read and mystical- a hard task in Children's Bible literature. Her comments on the feelings and activities of both Jesus and others are so spiritually aware that adults will end up thinking about it long after the book is finished. In particular, her thoughts on Judas and his motivation were thoughtful, compassionate, and shed the first positive light I have ever seen given to this character. She brings up points I had never considered--- After Jesus rose He said "Peace be with you" not "Where were you when I needed you" - with such simplicity that one can't help wonder why they didn't consider it before. Along side L'Engle's rich prose is artwork beautiful enough to be awed over by adults, but detailed enough you'll laugh as children comment, "Hey, Lazarus really looks dead!" "The Glorious Impossible" is beautiful, gentle, rich, and assuring- a perfect book to introduce not only Christ but what he taught as well. ... Read more

When they returned home Jenny asked why they had bought Kinza back for such a high price. The nurse said, " I love Kinza just like God does, because god loves me, I pour out my love on Kinza.

This book is interesting because so much excitment was going on. The best part was when the nurse told Jenny why she loved Kinza so much. Star Of Light is a very adventurous book that you should read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Star of Light
Star of Light is a beautiful, yet sensitive fictional book (though it seems like non-fiction) . Set in North Africa, this book is about a little boy named Hamid and his blind sister, Kinza. Because Kinza is blind and a girl, a double curse in that part of the world, Hamid's stepfather wants to sell her to a beggar who will use her to make money. But Hamid loves Kinza and is determined to save her from an inevitable life of abuse. So he steals her away and brings her to a strange English nurse who loves all children no matter how they look or what disabilities they have. Truly a spellbinding book. I liked this book because I felt like I was there, in North Africa, years before I was born. If you like this book I would also recommend The Rainbow Garden, also written by Patricia St. John, and The Hidden Jewel. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Left Behind
This series is great for all ages! I have been reading these and the older "Left Behind"'s. I think it's really interesting how the older books and the younger ones corrolate in the events that take place. I encourage you, if you are old enough, to read both series of books. When you do it covers both a kid's perspective an adult's perspective on the Rapture and the Tribulation. I look forward to more books from these authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 8 year old daughter and I both read them!
The other reviews are right on! The books are great - fast paced and interesting. My daughter and I both enjoyed them. Since the books are for an older age, I read them before my daughter.

The books are not scarey and should be read by any child, especially those in Christian homes! We never quite know the extent of our children's faith, these books may help them to think more themselves.

I have read both the adult and kid Left Behind series and recommend them! The kids books are almost better than the adult ones!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great books and i would give more than 5 stars
These books are great! i started reading them and i also got my mom into reading them and now she's a couple books ahead of me! This boxed set is a perfect starter to get you into reading these eye-opening books! The first book is kind of boring, but keep reading, it'll turn out interseting. When i first read the book of Revelation in the Bible, i didn't really understand it. I thought it would all come at the same time. These books really helped explain it to me and now i'm stronger in my faith and in my reading. These books are really great for children and adults and it helps you understand more. Sometimes these books bring me to tears because of what our world will suffer and will be decieved by the antichrist. These authors are trying to get the message to you that it might be to late so you need to be saved. I really think it was great that i found an interest in these books. they make you want to get on your knees and really pray, i really like these books and i hope you will like the too. ;-)

5-0 out of 5 stars a book for christians everywhere.
An excellent illustration of the end of the world. It has an excellent message, but the first few books are a little on the borin side, but after the wrath of the lamb earthquake in one of the later books things really start to heat up. Although they are extremely fast reading and they are written in such simple language, the message should strengthen faith for christians of any age. These books are the begginning of a massive series depicting the last years of the earth, armageddon, and the rise of the Anti-Christ, and the persecution of Christians and Jews in the last years of the world. Even though I wish non-christians would pick up this book to read, I doubt that it would have anywhere near the effect it should have on a christian reader. I would recomend this to a non-christian who is open minded and not completely set in the ways they were brought up.

1-0 out of 5 stars Propaganda
These books are unadulterated fundamentalist propaganda. That might be ok for adults, who have already chosen their path in life. But when such books are written for children, in the obvious hope to inculcate them into a particular religious view, it goes from "preaching to the choir" to Neuremberg rallies. They don't even have the saving grace of being well written. The strokes are so broad, the characters so one-dimensional, the "message" so obvious, that you would get as much from beating the child over the head with the book and yelling "sinner!sinner!sinner!" as you would letting them read it. If a Muslim, a Jew, or (G-d forbid) a secular humanist created such tripe and it ended upon on library shelves the afficianados of this garbage would burn the building down.

The bottom line: Badly written, poorly developed fundamentalist propaganda. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Elsie rocks!
These books are some of the best books I've ever read! They aren't just fairy tale stories where everyone lives happily ever after. Elsie struggles as she grows up and tries to do the right thing as she faces real hardships. I also like that they were originally written in the 1800's! I am 11 years old and think that other girls my age would really enjoy reading about Elsie.

1-0 out of 5 stars There are lots of words I would use to descibe these books..
and none of them are good! My mother bought me the entire series of about a bazillion books a couple of years ago. Elsie is supposed to be so sweet and good, but she is whiny and snobby in a holier-than-thou way. My criticisms of the writing would be that Elsie is too persecuted, all the characters are sterotypical, two dimensional, and badly developed. It's also very un-engaging. You want to put it down after the first page. My mom was going to make me read the whole series, but after reading the first book she changed her mind- she only read the first chapter and that was enough! She's going to sell the books ..., and I wouldn't be surprised if they went for dirt cheap. They are that bad! ... Read more

One April morning Thomas and his sister Lucy are gathering eggs from the hens and discussing Easter. But Lucy falls ill with scarlet fever before she gets a chance to tell him about Easter eggs. Thomas is sent to the local candy shop merchants, John and Mary, while his sister is quarantined. One day, when Thomas is lonely and frightened about Lucy, Mary gives him a chocolate Easter egg and tells him the story of Jesus's resurrection.

"But why do we have Easter eggs?" Thomas asked.

Mary explained. "Just as a chick breaks out of an egg, so had Jesus broken free of the tomb of death. Easter eggs remind us that Jesus conquered death and gives us eternal life."

Written by the author/illustrator team of Lori Walburg and James Bernardin, and featuring the same setting and characters from their bestselling The Legend of the Candy Cane, this story reveals the significance of Easter, which lies far beyond the wholesale gobbling of chocolate eggs and jelly beans.
