5-0 out of 5 stars A must have...
This is one of the very best children's books I have ever read. I highly recommend this book for anyone with kids. I have given it to all of my nieces and nephews along with a number of other kids. I cannot say enough about how good this book is. Larry Libby has an uncanny knack for gently and tenderly communicating to young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars A rare resource for parents of dying children
When our daughter was battling a brain tumor, I looked high and low for a book like this one. Another parent in a similar situation stumbled on to this book and recommended it. In the years afterwards I have continued to recommend it, and I've purchased and given away several copies to parents of dying children.

The viewpoint is evangelical Christian. The other reviews are accurate so far as they report features of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Incredible!
Kids ask the tough questions and Larry Libby presents the answers in a way that is enthralling and captivating. He deals with the sensitive issues of death and dying in a satisfying fashion. Absolutely indespensible material for the family or church library.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book
I bought this book because someone I knew just passed away and I wanted to learn more about where he was. This was a wonderful book and it made me feel a lot better. It answered most of my questions and comforted me to know that heaven is wonderful.A must for people who have questions about heaven and what it is like.

2-0 out of 5 stars I liked it until...
I really liked this book and was hoping to use it to help me answer my kids' complex questions about dying and moving into God's presence. However, it espouses the belief that ONLY Christians are able to be in God's presence after they die. Presumably the rest all go to hell. This, to me, is an inappropriate message for children. The illustrations are lovely and if it were not for this antagonism to non-Christians, I would share it with my children. ... Read more

Book Description

Stories to Love, Laugh, and Live By

If you are young enough to love a story—and just about everyone is—here are more stories from Grandma's attic. Magical pieces of a day gone by . . . told by that natural storyteller of all loving families—Grandma, the one who never forgets the fun and laughter of a simpler, perhaps richer time.

Stories of an old rag doll that seems to come alive . . . of a newborn goat dancing stiff-legged in the old farm kitchen . . . and of a faith that gives life meaning.

Here are those marvelous tales—faithfully recalled for the delight of young and old alike, a touchstone to another day when life was simpler, perhaps richer; when the treasures of family life and love were passed from generation to generation by a child's questions . . . and the legends that followed enlarged our faith.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent... a lot like the Anne of Green Gables series
This book focuses on Mabel, a grandmother now who is raising her own granddaughter. She tells the funniest stories from her own life on a farm in early America. Quite clumsy and full of mischief she and her friend and two brothers learn the hard lessons of life through laughter, sorrow and getting in trouble with each chapter. As she matures, her father and mother instill moral values along the way. However, much like Anne of Green Gables her young spirit full of life never leaves her a moment of rest. ... Read more

"Someday, Jesus will return to take his followers to heaven.... We will disappear right in front of disbelieving people. Won't that be a great day for us and a horrifying one for them?" That was old Pastor Billings droning on again about the Rapture, and Judd was bored out of his skull. A sarcastic 16-year-old, way too cool for all this Jesus stuff, Judd had even lied about receiving Christ as his Lord and personal Savior. But poor hotheaded Judd is about to be very, very sorry.

The first book in the children's version of Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye's sleeper-hit Left Behind, The Vanishings introduces us to Judd ("The Runaway") and his three imperfect companions: Vicki ("The Rebel"), Lionel ("The Liar"), and Ryan ("The Skeptic"). These four teens, for one reason or another, all failed to submit to the power of the living Lord, despite their friends' and parents' best efforts. And when Pastor Billings's Rapture actually happens--sending Christian-piloted trains, planes, and automobiles crashing as millions of true believers literally vanish in the blink of an eye, leaving behind nothing but their skivvies and their W.W.J.D. necklaces--the four wayward teenagers get religion and fast. The saga continues when they receive a second chance in book two. (Ages 9 to 12) --Paul Hughes ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Christ has come in Left Behind the Kids:The Vanishings
I thought that this book seemed very imaginative, when the truth is that it really will happen one day. The whole series is about four kids who get left behind when the Rapture happens. The Rapture is when Christ comes down and takes the Christians up to heaven with him. These four kids, Judd, Vicki, Lionel, and Ryan, are in the same town, so they meet when they go to their church after waking up to empty homes. Vicki, Judd, and Lionel become Christians first; Ryan was hesitant because of the pain of losing his parents, his mother in a car accident and his father in a plane accident. The others kids' parents went up to heaven. This book was hard to get into, but when you are a way into the middle, you won't want to put it down. This book captivated me. I was dying to read the sequel. This book made me want to become a REAL Christian for fear of this happening to me. If you buy this book, Left Behind the Kids: the Vanishings, I suggest that you buy them in the complete set before you go crazy looking for the rest in the series. I don't know what will happen by the end of the series, but why don't you read along, and we can find out together in these books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Left Behind - The Vanishings
"Left Behind - The Vanishings," is a great Christian book for all kids and teenagers. The book allows the reader to understand what will happen in the future to all Christians, through the lives of Lionel, Vicki, Ryan, and Judd. The kids all deal with everyday problems that people all over the world encouter all of the time. "The Vanishings" will touch the lives of everyone who reads it, including children who are not very familiar with the Bible. While the characters in "The Vanishings" may not relate to some people in life, they still live the lives of many young people. "The Vanishings" shows kids what will come in life, and how to be able to be taken to Heaven when Christ returns. If you have not purchased "Left Behind - The Vanishings," then I strongly encourage you to do so.

1-0 out of 5 stars It's so bad, it's good
If you've been searching for the literary equivalent of "Plan 9 from Outer Space" or "Robot Monster," look no further. For all the uproar about manipulating children with fear-based propaganda, I find it hard to picture even the most gullible children being convinced by this piece of junk.

First of all, the basic premise goes against one of Christianity's core ideas. Namely, that we all have a soul and our soul departs our bodies when we die, to go either to heaven or hell. (Or just to heaven, in some congregations.) So if all the people who are Raptured are taken to heaven, and if heaven is a place for SOULS, why are their bodies taken too? Why are their souls not simply sucked out, leaving empty corpses? In the book, the author specifically mentions a group of pallbearers who disappeared, only to drop the coffin which popped open to reveal the dead body gone too. This raises many questions.

First, if the dead man was already in heaven, why was his body Raptured?

Second, if this happens to every dead Christian going all the way back to the time of Christ, do the remains of THEIR bodies get Raptured too? If they're already almost completely decomposed, what good is a pile of old bones and soil?
Third, if you need your physical body in heaven (which, once again, goes against basic Christian beliefs, not to mention common sense) wouldn't you also need your hearing aid and contact lenses? (See page 111.)

But despite its ridiculous premise, "The Vanishings" manages to also be horribly written. The entire book reads like a synopsis of itself - and it's just short enough to be just that. Jenkins skids through the plot with tires squealing, skipping over such unnecessary details as character development, dialogue, and description. I got whiplash just reading it. But to be fair, it was very entertaining whiplash.

Possibly the funniest element of this book is, it gets quite boring around the climax. Jenkins, despite having written over 100 books, commits a common first-time-author mistake: explaining the back story at the very beginning of the book. He methodically tells the history of each character one by one, plodding through stereotypes of trailer park residents and teenagers alike. But this actually turns out to be the most entertaining part of the book, if only for inadvertently hilarious lines like, "Loving Jesus is for little old ladies!"

Each character, one by one, is begged by a Christian family member or friend - whose conversion has swept away all their faults and made them kind and gentle - to accept Jesus. And each character, one by one, comes up with his or her own deep, philosophical argument against Christianity, namely, "Jesus is for losers! You're stupid!" Or, my personal favorite, "Oh yuck! All that boring religious stuff!"

When the Rapture actually happens, the book stops being funny and starts being frustrating and boring. What should be the most exciting part is told in the past-tense. Nearly everyone discovers what happened the morning after, or from TV news.

Even when the author actually gives himself a chance to describe to the reader what the Rapture looks like, he fails. The "newsman" (also known as an anchorman, to those who bother to do their research) _describes the very clip he is showing_! Isn't that the author's job? Later on, when the kids are shown a video made by a minister explaining the Rapture, Jenkins doesn't even bother to tell you what the video says - only that it clears everything up and convinces the characters that Christianity is the truth. Well, as long as it does nothing more than _change the character's lives_, there's no reason to tell us what it _said_ or anything...

Read this book if you like to laugh at shoddy theology and even shoddier writing. Or read it because you genuinely believe the Rapture will happen, taking the word of two 19th century literalists over 1,900 years of Christian theology. If you are of the latter group, I have a message for you: as the bumper sticker says, come the Rapture, can I have your car?

5-0 out of 5 stars People all over the world have vanishe, find out what happed
(...)I have read the first 6 books of this seirs. It talks about what it will be like when God comes back and takes his church (True belivers) up to heaven with him. I have always belivede in christ, I have read the book of Revulitin, but this story is about for reagular kids who are left behind. They havde tunes of great adventures. As soon as you pick the book up it will most likely be hard to get you away from it. Judd, Vicky, Linol, and Ryan are all left behind. They run into eachother at a chruch and become belivers. I am going to start telling about the first 6 books at once so don't expect to read it all in one book. THey find out that sombody close to lionle is framed to be dead and then sombody kills that person. There pastor thinks he know who the anicrist ( the person who say they are crist and fools a whole lot of people) is and the kids do not want to belive it becuse he looks like a nice guy, but when they hear a story of the guy who was at a metting with him, they belive it one hundred percent. The school opens up again and Judd and Viky go to a school wich had been changed to that name of who they belive is the anticrist. They are not aloud to talk about Jesus or God at school or bring Bibles or anything realet to it. THe kids want to share about God, so with two other kids help they make a newepaper for the high school. The paper was against school ruel so people came and checked every body out to find out who made it. The kids get away with it and go inside the school at night to give them out in another way. All of the kids get away, but the next day some adults go to one of the kids and told them to say who they was working with. This seirs is unbelivably good even if you do not belive in crist ( wich you might after you read the books) becuse it has so much action and discription in it. If you do not by it you should at least check it out form the libary. I only wish iI could tell you evry little detail of the book writhgt now but I can't. The lasts thing I am going to say is PLEAS READ THIS SERIES BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T YOU WILL BE MISSING OUT!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Manipulation
As far as I can see, the sole purpose of this series is to scare prepubescent children into being Christian. The only message I saw was of the be-completely-submissive-and-unquestioning-or-you-will-end-up-like-these-guys type.

I also noticed that it never mentioned that only a third of the world is Christian, and that only a fraction of those are especially committed to their faith, so the Rapture would technically only apply to about a quarter-billion people.

So. What did I learn? Some Christians aren't afraid to manipulate children to bring them around to their way of thinking. Sometimes the world is very depressing.

This would be okay if it weren't based on just the fundamentalist Christian viewpoint that if you aren't Christian you are doomed. (Because if those guys are right, Ghandi went to Hell.) They could have said that only the pure of heart made it or something like that. But no, it's set up so if you're a Zen Bhuddist, you are evil.

It rather pissed me off. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding writing!!! Lucado had done it again.
If you are looking for a book to teach your child of the love of God, look no further. This is one of the best writings to help teach our children the plan of salvation. I want to buy this book as a gift for all of the children I love.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 4 year old gets it!
This is a great book that speaks to young children about God's love, mankind's freewill and God's forgiveness. I have never seen my four year old so intent as when we read this book together; he actually had tears in his eyes. It is a simple story told in a way that kids can grasp. The illustrations are also wonderful, my child pointed out characters that resembled a number of his friends. This is a good book to help build the fundamentals of faith, and a good addition to a family library. I have also caught my pre-teen kids reading and enjoying it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Troubling Vision of the Kingdom
This alleghory of sin, free will, and love is troubling to me on many levels. The primary concern I have is that the village that Shaddai builds is populated solely with white children. While many may protest that this is political correctness run amok, I'd hate to share with a child a vision of God's kingdom that only included white persons. In a book published in the year 2000, this is deeply troubling.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book may help my non-christian nephew find the Lord
My brother is not a Christian, so I look for ways to influence my four-year-old nephew without offending my brother. This book has it all. It is gentle and fatherly and really shows how our Father is looking ahead for ways to keep us safe even when we follow our own sinful nature. Its a story about compassion and kindness and it really touched my heart. How wonderful that it touched both the hearts of my brother and nephew as well! Who knows, maybe this book will lead to my nephew someday commiting his life to Jesus. Maybe it will even bring my brother back to the Lord too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Because I Love you
Because I love is a very, very good story about a wonderful village built by a very kind man who loves everyone in the village. He builds a wall to keep them in the wonderful place away from harm, but also to see if they will stay with him. This story is about temptations, love for someone, curosity and trust.

I would recommend this book to everyone, it is a very cute story with a good moral that goes along with it. I think many people will enjoy this book, as much as I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Introduction to the Bible
"Adam, Adam, What Do You See?" by Bill Martin is a beginning reader book of Bible stories.

Each two-page spread starts with the title question, only the name is replace with another name. Adam's response is "I see creation all around me." Genesis 2:4-25 is listed as the reference to learn more about Adam.

Other major Bible characters are asked the same question, and they answer uniquely: Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Samson, Ruth, David, Esther, Mary, John, Peter, Paul, a little child, and of course, Jesus, all with corresponding Bible references.

I fully recommend "Adam, Adam, What Do You See?" by Bill Martin as a fun way to introduce your children to your faith.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding for Sunday School....
As a preschool teacher, of course I'm a huge fan, but this book warmed my soul. I'm so thankful to have this religious book to share with the kids. They will learn the words just like my weekday kids recite Brown Bear... this will make the flannelboard story for Sunday School I have been waiting for! Excellent story by a dedicated Christian! Every young child's class should have this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A positive children's book for kids and parents too!

If you liked "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see" by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle you will love this one even more. "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see" has been my son's favorite book since he was 6months old, now "Adam, Adam, what do you see" will be my second son's favorite. Bill Martin Jr. has a wonderful way to tell the many stories of the Bible in simple sentences for young readers. I recommend this book to any parent, the children will love the repetition in this book and will learn it word by word. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars But where's Junior?
My 3 year old daughter enjoys this book very much. It features many of the characters: Larry, Bob, the peas, Pa Grape, Archie Asparagus, Laura Carrot, Mr. Lunt, Madame Blueberry. All recount in rhyme what God-given features make them special. My only complaint is that Junior Asparagus (my child's favorite) is missing!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I just road tested this book in my preschool Sunday School class, and the kids really loved it. It's just the right length and has a really good message. No matter what color, shape, age, etc you are, God made you special! That's the general gist of the book. It's Veggie Tales so of course it's funny without being corny. I highly recommend it to anybody!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great book!
This is a fantastic book for very young chidren. My daughter is 21 months, and she brings this book to me to read for her at least three times a day. She loves the books because it has all the veggie tales characters, and I love the book because it allows me to do all the character voices while I am reading them to her. My wife is usually even amused by it. Aside from all that, I think it will teach her that we are all special in our own way and that god made us that way.
I highly reccomend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Warm, Helps Kids Know Who They Are is OK
Bob and Larry serve, along with several others of the Veggie cast, as examples of how being different isn't such a bad thing.

This board book is a sturdy tool for children to learn that God made them exactly as He wanted them to be. While it isn't necessarily a message of diversity, it is the beginning of teaching children that God made other people the way He wanted them to be as well.

The text is probably too difficult and too long for most 4 or 5 year olds, but very readable aloud.

I fully recommend "God Made You Special."

5-0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!!!
These are some of the best books I have ever read. I picked up one, and in less than a week I had read all four! The Christian values exhibited by Elsie just drew me in. If only we could all act more like her!! The world would be such a better place.....Absolutely awesome. I can't wait to read the next 4 books in the series.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Real Elsie Dinsmore
Since my maiden name was Elsie Dinsmore, I grew up reading these books. I realized several years ago that Elsie, who stood up for what she believed in, even against her beloved Poppa in the famous piano scene, was not only a good role model for young girls, but was actually an early feminist character. There was a feminist movement in Ohio starting in the 1840's, and since there are many Ohio references in the books, and the Mildred (NOT Millie) Keith books, in which Horace Dinsmore makes appearances, are placed in Ohio, it is obvious that Martha Finley was familiar with the movement. Elsie is not allowed to wear corsets or eat sweets, she dresses and eats sensibly, gets plenty of exercise and fresh air, is refreshingly honest in her dealings with her illmannered cousins, spends the war years in Europe, frees her slaves, learns to keep her accounts, and for that period is a thoroughly modern and liberal woman. She does NOT spend all her time weeping into the Bible, and she has the courage of her convictions. I am appalled that these books have been "modernized" and claimed by the Christian right who have renamed them with such saccharine titles that their real importance is hidden from the casual reader. I urge readers to search out the original spirit of Elsie Dinsmore in these books, because her character was an important influence on the development and freedom of American women in the late 19th and mid-twentieth centuries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Elsie books are great!
My name is Amanda Marsan. I am thirteen years of age. I am also homeschooled and my step mom teaches me. I read these wonderful books for part of My schooling and I find it very hard to put them down. I very much appreciate the Elsie books. They have inspired me to be a truely rightous person. When I first stared reading the books I thought that Elsie must have had some super powers, but as I went on Elsie enceraged me to read Gods word and now I know I can have the same powers as God gave her Even though these marvelous before I read these books I absolutely hated reading and I was slow at it but now I enjoy reading and I find myself getting faster and faster. I have never been in a situation similar to Elsie's but I can know that whatever situations I am in God will be with me and strengthen me.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than Wonderful
Elsie Dinsmore books are the best in the world. My aunt had a complete set of them while I was growing up. I was upset with one lady who did a bio on Martha Finley and said the Elsie books were melodramatic and full of Bible verses. WELL they are full of Bible verses, but also a promise of hope and faith. THe books are a gold mine of history about the United States, written from a view of someone who lived through the era.

We all know that Elsie is good. She strived to live up to her faith, and as a Christian I appreciate that. I cried, laughed and cheered with Elsie my whole life.

I love Elsie Dinsmore with all my heart. My Elsie books are now put up because they are first editions, and I cannot read them. Praise God we can now buy the books again, I can now read them over and over.

MY ADVICE IS BUY, BUY, BUY THEM, if you want a cheerful, good, and loving Christian girl as a friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing, and God Inspired books!
Elsie Dinsmore is a rich, young, motherless heiress who has never met her father before. Yet, with her faith in her Heavenly Father, endures each trial patiently, without fail. Little Elsie lives with her grandparents, aunts and uncles (who are actually younger than her), who really care nothing about her. The treat her totally unkindly as if she had no relation to them at all. Throughout books 1-4, little Elsie grows up to be a young woman, following the narrow path of the Lord. She encounters many trials and temptations which would lead and "everyday" Christian to destrucion. But, Elsie Dinsmore keeps her faith in God, and never gives up.

I loved these books! They are the best series I have ever read next to the Millie Keith books (by the same author, and, by coincidence, is Elsie's second cousin who lives on the fronteir of Indiana! Please read the reviews by me to find out more) and the Bible. Elsie is a wonderful role model for girls today and tomorrow! Through these books, my Christian faith has been enhanced, and my walk with God strengthened. I would recommend these books to EVERYONE -although they are best for girls ages 6-14 - and hope you will read them! To find out about each books in this series seperately please look them up on this site. I will write a review explaining them more thoroughly. Also, please visit the A Life of Faith site, which tells even more about Elsie and her character! It is: www.alifeoffaith.com ... Read more

Picking up where The Vanishings left off, Second Chance is just that: at the close of book one, Judd, Vicki, Lionel, and Ryan met up at New Hope Village Church and got the Good News from now-humbled pastor Bruce Barnes (who, despite his degree from Bible college, got left behind after the Rapture forfailing to receive Christ, just like the kids). Lionel, nixed by the Messiah on a technicality in book one, jumps at the chance to join the winning team, but the other kids are too angry and confused after watching their world get turned upside down. Book two follows their search for truth as they piece together the wreckage of the Rapture in each of their lives, knowing full well that the end of the world isn't far off--just seven years, according to Bruce, once Israel signs a treaty with the Antichrist. By the book's end, two more Left Behind kids wise up, but one holds out, still too scared and mad to sign on.

The Evangelical Christian science fiction series Left Behind: The Kids is a youth-oriented story line based on Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye's bestselling Left Behind. (Ages 9 to 12) --Paul Hughes ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A second chance with new hope....Great!
I just loved this book........Bruce gives Judd, Vickie, Lionel new hope that there still is a chance to be right with Jesus Christ......Ryan still hasn't decided at this time and has to be convince that there is a Savior.....Each and everyone of them sooner or later come to make a decision to recieving Jesus Christ.....Ryan is still upset about his parents...Judd and Vickie decided to go to the airport to pick-up the car from the airport.....exciting and exhilarating the ordeal it is just to move the car out in the open, and to drive out of the parking lot at the airport...a lot of action in this book....it is a must read....I don't want to tell anymore because I might spoil it for you......can't wait to get my hands on book 3......

2-0 out of 5 stars For religious fundamentalists and wannabes only
"Second Chance," by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye, is the second book in their "Left Behind: The Kids" series of young adult novels. These books are rooted in fundamentalist Christian theology. This novel takes place after an event known as the Rapture. According to the book, all true Christians mysteriously disappeared from the earth during this Rapture, and those people remaining on earth will eventually face an apocalyptic nighmare.

This sounds like the stuff of intense, sweaty-palmed drama, but this book is remarkably bland and boring. The characters are pretty much all shallow stereotypes, and the dialogue is dull. The melodramatic chapter titles ("Ordeal at O'Hare," "More Shocks," etc.) seem silly in light of the book's overall blandness.

The book seems to have two main purposes: (1) to scare impressionable teens into becoming religious fundamentalists, or (2) to reassure those readers who have already embraced fundamentalism. I know the book is part of a series, but its abrupt ending makes it unable to stand on its own apart from that series. Overall, a weak piece of literature.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but not the best
This is a book with great meaning, but honestly I think that it is not the best in the series. I really enjoy the series, but the first books are not the best. I encourage you to buy the 32 books in this series-and buy this one at a low price. I would like to tell you a little of what this book is about, so you will get an idea.
Four kids have been left behind. They are all alone, and wonder what to do. But will they accept God's second chance for them?

5-0 out of 5 stars Second Chances?
With the disappearance of millions, including their families, Judd, Vicki, Lionel, and Ryan are left to make the most important decision of their lifetime, to accept Christ and recieve a second chance.
Judd and Vicki put off the decision to think about themseleves, their lives, their families, and just take in everything that has happened in the past 24 hours. After rescuing Judd's car from O'Hare, they return to Vicki's trailor park and discover that Vicki's home was robbed and burnt to the ground, leaving the clothes on her back the only thing she owns.
Meanwhile, Ryan becomes very emotional at the thought of his parents death, and that they aren't in heaven. Lionel chases after him and the two discover that Lionel's house has been taken by his uncle, Andre.
So, what will the four kids decide? Read this book to find out and learn more about the end times.

4-0 out of 5 stars Will Uncle Andre be ok
I thought overall this was a pretty good book. It was about 4 kids that get left behind on earth because of their lack of belief in God. In the book they try to figure out what really happened. The four kids parents and siblings disappeared. But however a priest was left behind to help them believe in God. Right now the four kids are staying at Judd's house. When the watch the news across oceans the antichrist threatening to dictate all who were left behind. All in all if you are a Christian kid you will love this series of 30 books. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars another good Lily book
Just when Lily Robbins is starting to get along with her sister Tessa, she has to leave for Camp Galilee with the Girlz. But the Girlz plans for a cabin of their own go awry when they discover that the counselors would not let them have a cabin together. Lily finds herself in a cabin with best friends Alexandria and Genevieve who look like models from a magazine, DJ, who becomes the outspoken leader of the group, and Maggie, who does nothing but talk incessantly and make Lily feel rotten. Lily goes through homesickeness, and it only gets worse when her friend Zooey is sent home with a severe allergic reaction to poison ivy. Lily herself attempts to contract the disease, but her attempts fail. The only highlight is the fact that Lily will get the chance to use a sailboat, but even that goes bad when Lily capsizes the boat from not follwing her instructor's directions. Lily finally has a talk with her counselor, Jackie, who helps Lily with her walk with God at camp. Lily learns, once again, about a servant's heart, and learns some more lessons from the Bible. I gave the book four stars because there is some sailing lingo that I did not understand and ended up skipping, because it confused me. But other than that this book is an excellent addition to the Lily series. ... Read more

The text rhymes beautifully. It's soothing. My one year old smiles as I read it to her. The story illustrates God's love in a simple, straight-forward way making it easy for little minds to understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love You This Much
My 3 young daughters and I love this book. It's a beautifully written story. The illustrations are lovely. And, best of all, it comes with a cassette that has the entire story sung as lyrics to a lovely, lovely tune. I brought it to Sunday School to share with the preschoolers, and they were mesmerized through the entire storytelling session. As they listened to the song, they obviously found the tune very catchy and they joined in and sang the refrain without any prompting. This is a really special book accompanied by a really special song.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pulls your heart strings
I purchased this book for my Grandson & Granddaughter. It was performed live at his pre-Kindergarten program at his church school by a young mother and her daughter. Now my grandchildren listen to the tape in their Daddy's car all the time and love reading the book. When they say, "I Love You This Much", they spread their arms wide apart, you get caught in a bear hug squeeze. Just wonderful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute story!
I loved reading this book to my son! He giggles when we read it. The cassette that comes along with the book is a nice bonus but, a little "chee-z". My son seems to enjoy the song... that's what is important, right! The illustrations are great! And, the print is large which is great for little readers. All in all, a very enjoyable book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Children see Jesus
This book encourages parents to assume that children already have an acute awareness of Jesus in their lives. Why would we allow ourselves (even unconciously) to suppress that? Let's encourage it, and reap the benefits over the years!
I just began reading this book to my children, age 3 and 5. I have already been amazed at their perception of Jesus. They see Jesus with them virtually all the time, and he's always telling them that he loves them!
This book has opened up some unique conversations that I otherwise might not have thought of having with my children.
Try it with your kids, you'll be amazed at what they have to say bout Jesus. (One of my children sees Jesus in Clifford pajamas!) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very eye-opening book!!
Just Like Ice Cream is a great book about a teenager who has a summer fling and becomes pregnant. The book follows her struggle to decide what to do. She debates all the options with an adult friend who is a Christian. The book is wonderful without being preachy. Another book you might want to read is If I'd Only Known... by Edee Wilcox. The subject matter is the same - a sexually active teen, but the main character doesn't end up pregnant. This book focuses mainly on the emotional aspects of being a sexually active teen through the eyes of the teen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Searched for Years for this one
I read this book when I was in Jr. High and now I am grown with my own family... This book has made a lifetime impression on me and I have been looking to buy this book again for years. I had loaned it to someone and it was never returned... This book is well worth reading, especially if you or someone you know had had a young pregnancy.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is terrific!
I read this book when I was in the 6th grade. I'm now a junior in high school and it is now that everything this book said has meaning. I think that maybe some of the book's content was over my head and under my feet, but now everything comes into perspective. I suggest that any girl having problems with faith or feelings should read this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended for any teen girl
I am now in my twenties, but I remember reading this book in the 6th grade. While it may have been a little early for me - some was well over my head, I think it is better for kids to learn too soon what can happen when you have unprotected sex, than too late. It is presented in an entertaining manner that attracts young readers, yet instills in them the hard facts about teen sex. I would recommend this to any parent, and I hope that it is still around when the time comes for me to give it to my daughter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life altering
I am a 21 year old female. When I was 15 years old a friend of mine gave me this book to read and it was life altering. At the time I was dating a guy who I thought floated on air, he was the best. He was trying to convince me to having sex saying it was soo good, that it didn't hurt, and that I would love it and oh yeah, that I wouldn't get pregnant. Well he almost had me convinced. Then I read this book that led me to believe that I can wait to have sex later and that I am worth more than a "good time". It made me devote myself to abstinence until marriage. I passed it on to friends who also loved it and was motivated towards purity. All five of us who read it remained pure until our wedding day or are still pure. I hope that one day this book will still be around for me to give to my daughter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Jeremy a definite come-back bunny"
Jan Karon's tale of bunny adventure has stood the test of time in our household. The story of Jeremy, the English bunny sent with silver buttons to America, protected by Biblical verse and by the likes of Charles Benchley Owl, this was a fun first read for all. Now, left on a handy table, we're finding some of the lines getting a reprise -- "Don't take carrots from strangers" -- while the unusual depth of Teri Weidner's illustrations draws the reader back for second and more close looks. All of the art fits the tone and sense of the book. The full-page work is particularly entrancing. This bunny honestly provides repreated pleasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars The cutest book!
Even though this book is easy, it is so cute! This is the only book I can find that is good for bunny lovers(like me). Just go to the library or buy this book and read it. It makes great before bed stories!

2-0 out of 5 stars Honestly, Jeremy Ain't That Beguiling a Bunny
The best things about this book are its quaint jacket illustration, the 40-year-old picture of the author and her daughter on the back cover, and its built-in bookmark. It appears Karon's been given free rein to pubish just about anything, based on the best-selling popularity of her "Mitford" series. There are TONS of better things available for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars A story of adventure and friendship for young readers

An enchanting children's book, ideally to be read aloud--preferably by a loving grandparent or great-grandparent. I purchased it so that I could read it to my 4-year-old great grandson.

The story features a hand-made bunny, made by a young woman in England for a customer in North Carolina, and it's all about Jeremy's travels to get to his new home, and the people (and animals) that he meets along the way. Knowing my great grandson, I know that he will listen wide-eyed from the beginning 'til the end of the tale.

The author, Jan Karon, wrote it for her own daughter, Candace, which is also the name of the North Carolinian recipient of Jeremy, the honest bunny, in the story.

The illustrations by Teri Weidner also add a nice touch to the book. No children's book would be complete without appropriate illustrations. ... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Good Night
I love this book, but what is more important, my 2-year old loves it too! Even at 18 months, he would snuggle in my arms in his darkened bedroom just before bedtime, and I would recite this simple yet lovely rhyme to him from memory. He would ask me for "God" when he wanted to hear the story. Now he thinks he's too old to get cuddled before bed, but he wants to hold my hand and asks me to recite "God." This book is a blessing, and a great way to wind down the day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Story, Lovely Illustrations
We needed another good night book for my son's bedtime routine and I really wanted one focused on God. I got this one for his birthday, and he loves it. He loves books in general, but some he will have nothing to do with. Not this one. The pictures are beautiful and the story is even sweeter. Great choice for going to bed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, wonderful!
I love this book as much as my ...daughter. We have been reading it to her since she was a week old. If we try to read another book she wiggles around until we read this one. The art work is beautiful and the rhythm of the story is soothing. It is completely wonderful. We're going to have to buy another one because, like the Velveteen Rabbit, this book has had it's "fur loved off"!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent bedtime book!
We had received this book from a friend when our daughter was born. We started reading to her at 4 months of age, and this has always been one of her favorites. She is now 19 months old, and this is the only book she wants us to read at bedtime. We try others, but she always goes and gets this one. It is such a nice story, and a nice way to end the day. The illustrations are beautiful as well. This should definitely be a "must-have" for every child's book collection.
