5-0 out of 5 stars American Red Cross Babysitting Handbook- SUPER!
I have absolutely no agreement with 2 of the 3 reviews. I think it is way great! My babysitter has this book and the kit that is only sold to you if you take the BABYSITTER COURSE AT THE RED CROSS! I look through the book every time she comes. I think it's awesome! I recomend you call your local red cross and take the cours!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
I'm sorry but this book would not make my list of recommendations. ... almost every babysitting book has basic First Aid information, but this book went WAY OVERBOARD!!! All it has basic babysitting tips and a lot of confusing First Aid. If you really want to learn First Aid and CPR take the class and then get some other books to remind you of what to do in an emergency. This book is not helpful!

    3-0 out of 5 stars I didn't learn much...
I recieved this book when I took the Red Cross Babysitting course and wasn't very impressed. I knew almost everything in there (because of common sense). There were a few things that I did learn, like what to do in specific emergency situations, but that's about it. Safety is a number one priority for me and, hopefully, all babysitters, but this just went overboard. Plus, I believe some of the information was inaccurrate and could actually put a child in danger. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for an experienced babysitter and only certain sections to brand new, young babysitters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Guide
This book is a great guide for the person who is new to babysitting. It teaches the baby-sitter(young or old) how to safely carry their responsibilty of caring for children. I has wonderful pointers and tips that the skilled babysitter can use or the beginner. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Scabs: beyond an apologia

    Surreal, and incredibly entertaining.
    A great coffee table book

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad
I'm a big fan of "Everyone Poops" and "The Gas we Pass" which are also by Yagyu. This book gives kids an excellent look into how their bodies react to cuts and what scabs are all about. Kids ask the darndest questions...and this book gives them some answers. Fun reading for the entire family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even better than "Holes in Your Nose"
I'm a great fan of this entire series, but "All About Scabs" is a great addition -- destined to become a classic. Every child has scabs, and has questions and fears about them. The text is highly amusing, which makes the book fun for adults to read out loud. This one may be even better than "Holes in Your Nose" and "Everyone Poops." All three belong on every child's bookshelf, and on the shelf of anyone who ever has an occasion to entertain a young child. My eight year old, who grew up with nightly readings of "Everyone Poops" and "The Holes in Your Nose" likes this new one just as much. Bravo!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Keen! Simple & Direct explaination of the healing process.
Straightforward explaination of what happens when we get injured - even a child can grok this, which is good, since that's the real intended audience... ... Read more

    Book Description

This simple first aid book helps kids think wisely in an emergency. Well illustrated and easy to understand, it describes accident situations that children are likely to find themselves in. The paramedic/teacher author team provides step-by-step directions for handling such common problems as cuts, bloody noses, stings, electric shock and burns.

One of our most popular children’s books, "Kids to the Rescue!" opens with a note for parents, explaining how children can practice the first aid techniques. It concludes with a first aid quiz and instructions on calling 9-1-1 and other emergency numbers. The back cover has an index so kids can easily find the page of instructions they need.

Expanded and revised to cover HIV-safety.

Selected by SRA/McGraw-Hill for its fourth grade reading curriculum and praised in "School Library Journal," "The Horn Book," homeschooling and parenting publications. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Very superficial - better selections available.
This book would be better than having no first aid book or reference at all - but, not much better.Topics covered include:nose bleed, something in eye, bleeding, broken bones, dog and snake bite, poisoning, insect sting, chemical burn in eye, choking, electric shock, burns, unconsciousness, clothes on fire, and dialing 911.There is also a quiz in the back. The number of topics covered are OK, but the information is often incomplete.Three examples:1) The section on bee stings omits any discussion on finding and removing the bee's stinger without accidentally getting more bee venom in the wound.2) The section on dog bites omits any information on how to avoid getting bitten.3) The section on broken bones has a grand total of 53 words of advice. In fact most sections of the book fail to mention ways to avoid injury, or methods of care that are included in other children's 1st aid books.Although this book is inexpensive - I feel it is not a good buy.For a little more money I highly recomend "The Safety Book for Active Kids", which is sold by Amazon.

3-0 out of 5 stars "Kids to the Rescue" is a book for learning.
I think that kids my age (7)should read this book.If they have a frisky little sister like me, they're going to babysit her soon and they will need to know these things. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much for younger kids, too simple for older kids.
This was a pretty good book - I almost gave it 4 stars. The book has some useful info and the advice is sound (based on other 1st aid books I've read), so I don't think it would be a waste of anyone's money. The stated reading level is 9-12 but I felt it was a little too ambitious for most kids under 12 and too simple for kids over 12.I read this book to my 7 year old and most of it was over her head and had too many "steps".MY 12 year old also read it and she too thought there were too many "steps" in the instructions on what to do in an emergency. The sections in each chapter called "GET HELP!" were confusing to both kids.If you're looking for a Safety/1st Aid book for someone under 12 I would highly recommend "The Safety Book for Active Kids" (also sold by Amazon). If the reader is someone over 12 then a Red Cross First Aid Course and an adult first aid manual might be a better use of your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Kids' Guide to First Aid
This book is perfect for kids and not bad for adults either. It is very clearly written and has outstanding illustrations. The health strategies and tips provided are done in the context of prevention...But things happen, accidents occur, kids get hurt. This book helps you and your children learn/know what to do in these situations.A fun, interesting, read.

5-0 out of 5 stars You are never to young to learn!
I have 2 young children (ages 5 and 9 yrs old) myself and helping them understand what happens to their bodies when they hurt themselves is tough to do. Not to mention what to do when they are injured. Sometimes it is more "scared about the unknown" than anything. This book really helps the child research and learn how their bodies tell them when they are hurt and how to take care of the simpler injuries themselves. Plus, the format of the book draws them into learning about their bodies before an injury occurs. The illustrations are funny and help drive the points home in a kids kind of way. Great book and my daughter is already trying out the different first aid techniques in advance. Teach the child and you have taught the adult forever! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Response Vehicles.
This short, yet informative book discusses the various vehicles that emergency services use. Services ranging from the police to the fire department to ambulance services to the Coast Guard are discussed. The book illustrates in action the various vehicles these emergency services use: everything from cars, trucks, boats, helicopters, and even planes. The book is written in a simple manner, yet in such a way that young children become more informed and better understand the jobs of those who serve and protect. The last few pages of the book contains a short history of fire, police, and ambulance vehicles of the past. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This is a book you can pick up when faced with the problem and make a decision. And it worksfor children and grown-up problems.A friend called me over to her house to help her decide if she needed to go to the hospital--she is 60--I am 55 ---she had fallen --we used this book tofigure out what to do. We went to the hospitalbecause she did have abroken bone. This is an easy to use reference and it is cute too!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Reference for Childhood
I am a bit prejudiced when it comes to this hospital. Our daughter is an RN on 3-W.

I just love this book.It covers a lot of medical issues, both urgent and not-so-urgent.It helps you calm down in a crisis and itis not so overly wordy that you have to keep scanning to find what you'respecifically looking for for advice. Not everything can be taken care ofat home and they do not hesitate to tell you to seek emergency action. There's humor (ie. Colds, the Flu and the Great American Runny Nose - YourBasic Everyday Head Bonk), a suggested list of items for your medicinecabinet. There is a large range of ages involved, but most advice can beused by adults, too.

This is a GREAT baby shower or newborn gift.I'vegiven several.

    P. S. Our RN and her husband is expecting their 1st babyand our 1st grandbaby in June. She already has a copy and has given themas gifts to her side of in-laws and friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very easy to understand descriptions
When a child actually does hurt themselves this book is easy to flip through and find what you need quickly. It gives you helpful suggestions on what to do and what warnings signs to look for that may indicate a trip tothe ER or Dr's office. ... Read more
