Book Description

Boasting the same eye-catching holographic foil stamping of the earlier books in the best-selling series, this eagerly awaited new book featuring Rainbow Fish will delight his millions of fans. It's Rainbow Fish's most challenging adventure yet, for he must brave the Sea Monsters' Cave, rumored to be the most dangerous place in the ocean, to find healing algae to cure the ailing bumpy-backed fish. Warned by his friends about the dreadful denizens of the deep--the giant rock monsters, the five-eyed globe fish, and the horrible creature with a thousand arms--Rainbow Fish, accompanied by the little blue fish, musters all his courage and sets out on an exciting quest. In a satisfying and reassuring conclusion, Rainbow Fish discovers that by confronting his fears, it is possible to overcome them, and that sometimes there are simple, completely nonthreatening explanations for fabled dangers. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Afraid Of Noting
Bumby-backed fish was sick, and need red algae to get better. So Rainbow fish, and Blue fish decided that hey would venture into the monsters cave where the red algae was. They had to do it unless bumpy-back fish would die. As they traveled through, they say many scary things, but were too afraid to actually look at the scary things. The fish finally made it out and were able to get some red algae. On their way back they found out something very interesting. This is a pretty good story that tells a moral on now to be afraid of something just because you don't know what it is, like being afraid of the dark. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the adentures of Max the Minnow
The book was a good book it was about this minnow named Max. He was smaller then all the other fish and wanted to know how to get big. he asked everyone and he had one more person to ask. He went to the Shark's Place. ...
The age level is about 4-6.
The lesson i think is that even if your smaller then everything you can still be just as good as everyone else.
I really liked the lesson in this book and the wording...

5-0 out of 5 stars What a delight!
My parents bought this book for my two year old. Not only is it attention-getting with big bug eyes on every page, but the story is delightfully clever, interesting & educational. The back of the book even has a two page "encyclopedia" with pictures and descriptions of all the sea creatures introduced in the book. This is the first children's book that has kept my attention and interest as long as my son's. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book with a great lesson
I have four kids ranging in age from 8 1/2 years old to 2 1/2 years old. All of them LOVE this book. The huge eyes are what captivated all of us in the beginning but the story and illustrations were fun with an easy moral included. I can't wait to find more titles in the Boniface series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye Popping Fun
I bought this book for my 15 month old granddaughter while we were on vacation in Arizona. She is 20 months old now and can recognize all the characters. The story is adorable and the illustrations are sublime. She loves the colors and the expressions on the creatures faces.....especially Sharky. I have to read it every night to her and she is always as attentive as the first time. The bulging, wiggly eyes make the book a wonderful picture book for a baby and the prose is delightful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rhymes and Eye-Popping Visuals Excite Youngest Book Lovers
My son received this book as a gift when he was five months old and has listened and giggled to it every night for four months since. The rhyme scheme and exciting illustrations entertain him even during his most fussy times. At first, he focused mostly on the wiggling, googly eyes on every page, but now he studies all the other bright pictures and laughs at the funny faces on the characters. I have the book memorized but never tire of reading it because he enjoys it so much. The only downside...the book is not designed for toddlers to grab...we're on our second copy and now hold it well out of his reach. Also, it might be a little scary for kids who are easily frightened...Max barely avoids becoming a toothy shark's dinner. ... Read more

Book Description

One of the world's experts on hammerhead sharks, marine biologist Pete Klimley is fighting the stereotype of sharks as primitive and vicious killers. In fact, hammerheads exhibit some remarkably sophisticated social behaviors, including their schooling in the hundreds at underwater seamounts in the Pacific Ocean. To tell the story of these incredible animals, author Ken Mallory talked with Pete Klimley and then traveled to tiny Cocos Island, 330 miles off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. There, he had the chance of a lifetime to see these awe-inspiring animals up close. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars donovan adds wit and verve to rainbow fish
Gail Donovan has brought new wit and verve to the Rainbow Fish
series with this delightful book! My young son and I both
enjoyed the humor and drama of this undersea glimpse into a
'school' of fish and other sea creatures who reveal their
personalities-- familiar to anyone who's ever been to any
sort of school!-- through a wittily rendered session of
Show and Tell. Donovan's gentle humor and perfect ear for
both 'teacher-speak' and genuine kid voices make this book
one that can truly be enjoyed by both young readers and their
parents. I hope Donovan will continue to make Rainbow Fish

Book Description

The reader of Salmon Stream follows the life cycle of these remarkable fish--hatching from eggs in a stream followed by a life in the wide ocean, and eventually making a hazardous journey home to their stream of origin. As in her earlier best-selling book, The Tree in the Ancient Forest, author Carol Reed-Jones uses cumulative verse--a literary technique that is not only enjoyable but suggests how interconnected salmon are with their habitat. The book also contains ample information about salmon and challenges to their habitat, as well as a list of useful resources. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars i like it
This book contains some beautiful artwork. Lots for the little ones to look at while you read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Leaping and circling
Once again the circle of life is completed by the salmon of the pacific northwest. This is a cumulative story about the journey of the salmon from natal stream to ocean and back again. Parents nourish children who leave home to return to nourish their children.

Pictures a deeply colored and beautifully detailed. Would probably work best with slightly older children rather than younger. Would make an excellent classroom discussion book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scientific Poetry / Poetic Science
This story of the salmon life cycle is written in cumulative verse, like "The House That Jack Built." Starting from "This is the stream in the forest," the verses accumulate information as the eggs hatch into alevin and fry, while maintaining the lyrical flow of that stream. Then the smolt travel downstream to "an estuary wide" and the turbulent ocean. When the salmon receive the instinctual message to return home to spawn, the poetry of their journey is reversed: "... up the river with the tide, past the estuary wide ... obeying the voice of instinct's call, they leap a ten foot waterfall, to reach the place where they were born, bruised from the journey, weary and worn."

Again they arrive in the peaceful shady pool "filled with water, clear and cool, that flows in the stream in the forest." What a perfect way to demonstrate this cycle of life!

Illustrations saturate the pages with color. You'll feel wet from the flow of the cool stream, the splash of the waterfalls! Endpapers and an appendix add even more scientific information, as well as contacts and ideas for citizen conservation efforts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A charming set of fairy tales
In this book Walter De La Mare has written four fairy tales, and the best one of them is "Lord Fish". In it he tells us for the story of John Cobbler, an indolent young man who likes to fish more than everything else. The desire for finding new places to angle fish there one day drives him in the forsaken lands where once lived an evil wizard and there he finds something as horrible as sorrowful, as beautiful and the adventure he takes later, is going to change his life and the life of his mother.. The rest of the tales are very enjoyable too, but the first one is the best of them. Truly, Walter De La Mare has written some of the most beautiful tales I've ever read, all in a superior for this genre style. You really shouldn't miss this book. ... Read more

Book Description

My story starts the day that my parents told me we must leave our adopted home forever. Because of the soldiers and the drought we barely had enough to eat and we could no longer stay to help the people in our village.

Right before we were leaving I saw a fish in a small brown puddle and I knew I had to take it with me. The journey would be hard to get across the mountains—to the safety of the border and the people there who could help
us. Yet when I put the fish in the pot I never realized what we would have to face. It never occurred to me to leave Fish behind.

A subtle and sophisticated exploration of life, the strength of humanity, and survival in an unforgiving world, Fish is a story that will teach those who doubt that, when hope is almost extinguished, miracles can happen.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a simple story about a child and a fish.
Tiger is the child of humanitarian aid workers living in a country torn by famine and war. When their government asks them to evacuate the country, the family must make a difficult trek across the mountains to make their way back home.

The day they leave their village, Tiger rescues a fish that is slowly suffocating in a mud puddle. As the family can only take what belongings they can carry on their backs, Tiger's choice to carry the fish seems absurd. But as the mud puddle is quickly drying up, Tiger is worried that the fish will die.

"'All the animals here have died --- and lots of the people,'" says Tiger's father. "'One fish is just one fish after all.'"

However, Tiger's parents, and the Guide who takes them across the border, help Tiger transport the fish. First the fish is carried in a cooking pot, then in a water bottle, and eventually in Tiger's mouth. The people who they meet along the way think what Tiger is doing is strange, but they are also impressed by the compassion the child has for another living creature.

FISH is L.S. Matthews's first book. The focus and simplicity of this tale make it appealing to a broad range of readers. Tiger narrates the book. It is never clear whether Tiger is a boy or a girl. This makes it easier for the reader to identify with Tiger and perhaps also with the adventures that Tiger and the fish encounter.

This book is a simple story about a child and a fish. It is also about trying to make a difference, even if it is just in the life of one being. What Tiger does for the fish is no different from what Tiger's parents do as aid workers. Each makes a difference in the world one life at a time.
