5-0 out of 5 stars Great Story For All ages
Le Petit Prince is a great story for adults and kids alike. Kids can read this book and see it as only a story about a little boy from another planet who wants to find somone who understands him. Adults can read this book and see deeper meanings to what is happening. If you dig into the story you find things in this book dealing with issues we have to face. It's a great book and I would recommend it to any of my friends but I would have to tell them to get the English version. I would prefer to read the French version.

5-0 out of 5 stars Magnifique
I was given this book to read for a high school French class, and I'm so glad I did. (If you're by some fluke reading this, Coop, thanks so much for introducing me to "Le petit prince"!) It may be classified here as "children's" literature, but it's so much more. This is a beautiful, moving story of the little prince and his journeys through planets and on Earth. It contains some incredibly deep philosophy and will make you appreciate the simplicity and innocence of childhood... and make you want to regain that outlook on life. I know that I'm trying to see the world as a child again.

...Et si vous pouvez lire ce livre en français, c'est beaucoup plus beau. Le livre en anglais n'est pas mal, mais il n'y a pas l'élégance.

4-0 out of 5 stars Open ended
It's a strange little book that defies classification. My husband and I both read it and went away with very different interpretations. The book is part whimsy, part satire, and part philosphy. Its deceptive simplicity defies classification on greater examination.

5-0 out of 5 stars life lessons
I read this book a year ago with my French 4 Advanced Placement class. It is still sitting on the head of my bed, because I have read it multiple times and refer to it often. I have never been more inspired, nor more changed, by any one novel. The lessons that are meant to help children grow into admirable adults can teach us adults so much more. I looked at everything differently once I finished reading this book. I learned so many invaluable lessons that I will carry with me forever. I am absolutely sure that I will read this to my children someday. The lessons I learned, from not judging someone by what they look like to getting my priorities straight, have forever changed the way I treat people and the way I live. I believe I am more mature now because of the impact this book had on me.

5-0 out of 5 stars great in its original language
I have read TPP in Spanish, as a child; in English and now in French. The French is 100 times better than any translation. If you have been raised in a romance language, you know that the charm and sonority of French or Spanish is completely lost, even in a good translation. If you have read TPP in translation before, read it in French. It is easy to understand and a great book for those, like me, who want to develop reading skills.
Regarding the story, it is indisputable that TPP is a classic full of wisdom. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best foreign language program for YOUNG children I've seen.
I teach preschool children French in my home and have not seen an easier method for children who do not yet read. Though designed for beginning readers it is easily adapted to non-readers. Parents who do not speak the language can learn along with their child. The program comes with an activity book children can draw, color and cut in, along with 3 cassettes. Two cassettes are the lesson plans (1-10), and the third is an instructional guide for parents.

My only disappointment is that there is not another level after the child completes the book.

We also have the German for Children(it comes in several languages). We spend time in the evening doing the program with our 4 year old son. I soon realised that my 2 year old knew all of the songs and was responding to questions directed at his older brother in German. They love the Super Cat cartoon.

Note: A young child can not do the lessons without help from an adult.

3-0 out of 5 stars Slightly disappointing
I was surprised to find out that this book doesn't really come with a cassette for the kids to listen to. I talked with some customer service people and found that there may be quite a few different versions of this book, and unfortunatly not all of these versions are currently available. But other than that this book is still a pretty good french instructor for young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best I've seen.
Our family has a small library of French materials for children and this is the one my children enjoy using the most. The songs are catchy and understandable (many we have are hard for me to understand what they are singing and I have had 6 years of French language). There is a good mix of activities and games that reinforce what they are learning.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent program to introduce children to French.
This program is a wonderful balance between written and spoken French, with cute songs and games which entertain children as they learn. Most notable is that the program is presented by a native French speaker, not a speaker of French as a second language. I highly recommend this program, especially for (but not limited to) children who can read. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A litttle Spanish as well
The layout of this book is great-the pictures come from the English language "My First ____ Board" Book series.
However, pages 36-37, 40-41, 44-45, and 48 of my book are completely in Spanish. Had I not taken both French and Spanish the difference might have escaped me. I assume that people buying this book for their children are going to notice the problem--just thought it was worth a mention. ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellente!!!
My daughter and I loved sharing this book together. She already knows most of her animals in French, and now we are working on the parts of the body. Fun time for both of us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Très magnifique!
This is a terrific toddler French word book. We have the "My First Word Book" which is a nice compliment to the French version. My daughter (2 1/2) really enjoys the colorful pictures and likes to practice in both French and English. It's also a great learning tool for us! My only wish.. that the book was more portable for carrying in a purse or daybag for travel like many of the other "First" books. We all love the "My First..." series by DK Publishing.

5-0 out of 5 stars oo-la-la...Engaging word book for toddlers and preschoolers
My 18 month old son loves paging through this book and pointing to the eye-catching photos as we pronounce the words in French and English. My husband is advancing his study of French and has found this to be a wonderful book to share his love of the language with our son.

The photos are crisp and engaging, and span a wide variety of topics. I have also given the Spanish version of this book to a friend's two year old, who loves to read it with his babysitter daily. I find that it not only allows my child to hear another language, it simply provides for object identification that I might not have been as clear about without the visual aids. It's just a joy to read this with my child. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
I used this book in my french class and I thought it was great practice and very helpful, but yeah, be warned -- this is just the student copy WITHOUT the tapes or the answers so pretty useless it's used in a classroom setting.

1-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
This book is simply a question book. In order to use it properly you need the audio cassettes and the the teacher's guide( to check your answers!) which is impossible to purchase unless you are a teacher. It makes no sense why it is sold on it's own. A complete waste of money........

1-0 out of 5 stars No answers + no tapes or CDs = Useless
I ordered this book after reading the 5 star review, and upon receiving it realized that it is a STUDENT edition, with NO ANSWERS and NO tapes or CDs (or even a written script) for the listening sections! Without answers and tapes, it is useless as an AP study guide! The Amazon description of the book should state this, so other people don't waste their time ordering it. I couldn't find the missing items on Amazon, so I searched the web until I found the teacher guide ($16.97) and tapes ($49.97) on the Prentice Hall webpage.

5-0 out of 5 stars J'utilise ce livre dans ma classe de français!
I use this book in my French class. It's the book mon prof uses to test us. I think the listening exercises provided in here are wonderful. The other exercises are good as well. The vocabulary provided in the back is also very good. It's an excellent prep tool for anyone in AP French language. Bon chance! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Book
Thank you for publishing the, usborne language guides for beginners books and audio series. I am excited about learning other languages and have chosen the French for beginners as my stepping stone to success. We have found the contents though simple and basic to be useful which once understood and practised would provide the fundamental foundation needed. However there is one thing I would like to bring to your attention, and that is the ladies voice on the audio cassette is hardly audible, hampering our ability to gain the maximum satisfaction from this otherwise good product. 4-0 out of 5 stars If you aren't bilingual but would like your child to be....
This series of books is nice because they offer both the English and the French words side by side. My husband reads the English version, and I read the French.

As another reviewer noted, neither the story nor the illustrations are exceptional, but they are nice enough, my 3-year-old likes it, and it allows my non-French-speaking husband to participate,

5-0 out of 5 stars A New Favorite
I have been introducing French to my son since before he was born. He is now 18 months old and this story is one of his favorites (the other is 'I Want My Banana'). The artwork is simple and colorful and the rhythm of the English and French rolls easily off the tongue. I would also like to add that my son's English has not been hampered by a little foreign language here and there.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I had expected
After reading the other readers' reviews of this book I was expecting great things. However, I was dissappointed with the story line, which was merely a listing of a little girl's favorite stuffed toys, but even more dissapointed with the illustrations, which were simple at best. We will read it- but only because of the lack of truly great French materials for young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars C'est magnifique!
My 6 year old was accepted into a French immersion kindergarten class, and these books have been extremely helpful. They reinforce the words he is learning in class and are easy for him to read in French or English, which allows him to boost his reading skills at the same time. The fact that it is in both languages helps me understand what he is reading, too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Intro to French for Small Children
I bought this set for my children (ages 2 and 4). Our experience with this set has been wonderful. The kids both enjoy the songs and the story and have learned LOTS of vocabulary. In fact, we have been using the cassette in the car for about a month, and they are now able to repeat the story, sing the songs, and have learned all of the vocabulary presented in the dictionary. I would strongly recommend this set to anyone who wishes to introduce their children to the French language.

5-0 out of 5 stars Berlitz Kids French Language Pack
My ONE MONTH old has been listening to the tape for a week and loves it! She will lie on the floor contently until the story is over. She also likes the songs on side two. I put the tape player on the floor about 8 inches away and she will roll onto her side to listen.

All of the books that I have read say that the neural pathways for language are developed in the first 6 months. That is why I let my daughter listen to the tape now. I also plan to buy the Spanish version. I wish that more of the books in this series came with cassettes.

As for content, I took intensive French in college and the quality of the teaching materials in this pack are excellent for the age range that Berlitz recommends. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A little boy invites his friends to his birthday party.
This book follows the format of the rest of the Barron's seriesby showing 1-2 sentences per page in both English and Spanish. Fornon-Spanish speakers there is a nice pronunciation guide for each word at the back of the book. Children as young as two will enjoy the universal appeal of a birthday party with balloons, cake and presents.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Teaching Toddlers
I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to teach French to a young child. The storyline could easily hold up as a regular storybook and the illustrations are great.

I do find that the pronunciation guide would be a bit difficult for a non-French speaker to use and recommend this only if you have a bit of French yourself or access to someone who can help with pronunciation.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book!
My toddler loves this book and so do I. The illustrations are beautiful and the general quality of this hardbound book is very high. 3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book for Teaching French to Young Children
Generally a good way to teach very young children French, although I'm not really crazy about the storyline. In the story, each animal is unhappy with its various attributes and wants other ones, i.e. my nose is too long, I want a shorter one, etc - not exactly the kind of message I'd want my toddler to absorb.

Having said that, the illustrations are wonderful and the quality of the hardback book ............. is just great.

Although there is a glossary and pronunciation guide, I would not recommend this book to a parent who does not have a rudimentary knowledge of French.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book to teach some basic Spanish vocabulary
As a Spanish teacher in an elementary school, I use this book to help teach describing words. The children love how the elephant and giraffe make silly changes to their appearance; it holds their interest in the story and helps them learn the material. At the end of the story they clearly recognize the lesson: you don't need to change who you are because friends like you just the way you are! ... Read more

No matter which way you go, this book helps you review for all the common French words that no tourist should be without. What's that word for watermelon? How about bathroom? Oh, dang, I forgot how to say tooth! Well, just review the pages of this book and its cute little pictures, and you'll remember in no time. It's also great if you're trying to teach young children their 2nd language, which I recommend, because children learn easier. This book will be fun for them, and for you to brush up on your French!
