5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the Frech student or speaker.
Reading this book wasn't just fun, but it really helped me in my French. I learned more in reading it than I have in all of my classes combined. There are some little changes in it, but that is because of the language difference and my over-reading the English version led me to know its wording too well. Still, that only made it more fun. I'd recommend this to any French student.

5-0 out of 5 stars French Version of Harry Potter helps in school!
I bought the French translation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for my son who began his first year of French this year in Middle School. It has been great fun and encouragement for him. His teacher found it fun as well, reading short excerpts from it to the French class. Everyone loves Harry!

5-0 out of 5 stars Imagination and How It Was brought Out
I never really liked to read. It was just too boring. Reading all those pages that had no effect on me. Then I heard about Harry Potter. Everyone really liked it. I wanted to see what the big deal was. I read the first book. I thought to myself how imaginative it was. The creatures, the characters, and the plot. They were all like a puzzle fit perfectly together. It made my mind run wild. I had to read the second book. I went through that like a person going after 1 billion dollars. It was so amazing. The third book was next. That was better than the first and second books. Finally the forth. Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. That was the best of all. My favorite character is Ron. He reminds me of me. All except the looks. I look a lot better than him. This book is filled with creativity, mystery, fantasy, and love. All in one. Thats why I got hooked on all these things.

Then, Harry and the Weasley's go to the train station. Then they say goodbye to everyonne and get on the bus. They meet their new teacher and their best (not) friend, Malfred. Their is a special game instead of quidditch this year and only people over 18 years of age can enter to win. Three schools are coming to play but only 3 people, one from each school, can play. Harry plays. But he's not 18 so a lot of people get mad. I won't tell you what else happens, so get the book and read it!

I gave this a 5 'cause this is a grat book and it lets out your imagination!

5-0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire - In French...

5-0 out of 5 stars La coupe de feu, un livre merveilleux
... Read more

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is about a boy named Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione. This book has loads of surprising things happen to them. The climax of the book is exciting when he runs into someone that he really isnt suspecting to see or meet. Harry has some problems this year when he gets there. He get entered in a triwizard cup by someone unknown. Then he has Rita Skeeter a paper reporter for the wizarding world writing bad things about him in the newspaper. He starts getting through the tasks pretty well intell he gets to the triwizard cup when something wierd happens to him. Harry get into dangerous situation. Will he Survive?
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a great book to me because I like lots of action in my books. So if your looking for a lot of action this is the book for you. I also think this story setting makes the book very interesting as well. Mostly because its interesting to reading about the a magical fantasy world. I would definatley recomend this book to anyone who likes action filled books.

I mean... This publish its no good. When I read that book in Russian (I come from Poland) I was angry! Thirst book "Garri Pottzer i filosofiskii kamen" was publisht in Ukraina in much better paper and translate.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book. Awful translation.
The 4th part of Harry Potter is the best one. But this translation is... Well, it isn't just bad - it is awful. A lot of mistakes. Really great number. It seems that translators (5 or something) don't have Russian language as a native one. So read the original - it is much better than this translation.

5-0 out of 5 stars great way to read painlessly in French
These are children's books with a lot of action and dialogue-- perfect, easy reading for the non-native speaker, well and carefully translated...

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book
I found it great! I'm taking French currently and although I had to ask my dad for a lot of the words, I found it funny! Great translation, and as usual, the best book. Read the English version before you read others to get the real J.K. Rowling. But still a great substitution for non-English speakers.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a gotta read, the BEST!
Harry Potter is with his uncle, aunt, and cousin, who he hates so much, he would give almost anything to get out of there when his Aunt Marge comes to vist with her pit bull-Ripper. He loses control over his magic, and blows her up. Harry is on the run, but not for long. The Ministry of Magic finds him, and acts like they are thankful to find him, alive, and he soon finds out why.First, a strange dog scares him, and Harry almost gets killed. He is being treated very weired, until he finds out why. The infamous prisoner of Azakban, the wizard prison, has escaped and is after him. Harry is not safe anywhere, even at his school, Hogwarts. This book has an ending that you will never guess and is funny, with a lot of mystery in it. It is one of the best books that I have ever read in my life and I think that you will love it too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Learning French and knowing of the books easy reading, I gave this book a try, if I say so myself this translation is much better than the first one, very few spelling mistakes and great plots. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars sehr tolles Buch!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter und der Steinder Weisen
Alles, das ich über das Buch sagen kann, ist, daß ich es liebte, und ich glaube, daß es sehr wert Leseversuch es ist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wunderbar
Chances are if your thinking on buying this book in German, you've probably already read the Englsih version, so I won't bog you down with any lengthy opinion on the story itself except to say it is a modern classic, full of mystery and suspense that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.

Foreign language versions of English novels are notoriously difficult to translate, largely due to the high number of English words which have no exact translation in say, German or French. But on the whole, this was an exceptionally translated peice, with no major blunders sticking out (the Spanish version is full of them) The most obvious chnage is of "Hermione" to "Hermine" Perhaps Hermione would feel strange to pronounce to a native German speaker, not sure on that one.

A lot of people will tell you Spanish and French are far easier to learn than German. I found German more fun to learn, most people who say it is a difficult, technical language do not know that English and German belong in the same group of languages (Germanic) French, Spanish and Italian are in a completely different group (Romantic) So to brush up on language skills, or just to have fun reading a novel in another language, HP is probably the most fun and easy to understand novel on the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent translation
This translation of Harry Potter pulled even this native speaker of English along almost as well as the original book, and I would recommend it for anyone who's had a couple of years of German as a skill and vocabulary builder. If you're struggling with Goethe or Thomas Mann, you need something that will show you that German can be fun to read, and this book will do the trick nicely. I suppose once could carp at a few things here and there, but this translation is so superior to the French translation that I wouldn't waste my time doing that, except to mention that Hermione's name has for some reason been changed to Hermine. If you get stuck, at least the trot's readily available!

5-0 out of 5 stars PRACHTVOLL!

5-0 out of 5 stars For all ages
I would recommend Harry Potter a l'ecole des sorciers for everyone. I chose to read this book for French class as a summer reading. It isn't hard and I learned more French words as a result. It is very exciting. The cover was nicely done too.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Jaw Dropped
My first reaction to J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter a l'ecole des sorciers was speechlessness. I had no idea that any book could be so wonderful. I'll admit that I found the first few chapters a bit dull. They were necessary, though, because they explained Harry's background and brought you up to the current state of affairs. The rest of the book made up for any lack of excitement in the preceding chapters. After I finished the book for the fourth time, I went out and bought the second installment in the series, then the third etc. I give this book five stars, and my personal recommendation to anyone looking for a good read. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Ah Huh...
...The English version of the book is great... it's a treasure. The French version is pritty dreadful and yet boring. The translater did a poor job keeping the spirit & theme of Harry Potter alive. Will hope the other books are better portaid in the French version as they are in the English one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible translation
The English version of this book is great. Unfortunately, the French translation is dreadful. The translator apparently became bored with the book and has left out ENTIRE PAGES of the story. It is probably the worst translation I have ever read of any book.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a GREAT book, if you don't have it, you need it!
This is one of the best books I have EVER read in my life! Harry Potter thinks that he is normal, but untill some strange things happen, and some sort of giant walks in his "hotel" room, Harry Potter realizes that he is not normal, he is a wizard. He finds out what and who really kills his parents, and finds some new friends at his new school. But then, they discover something is hidden at Hogwarts-his school-and tries to fugure it out, before time runs out. This book has it all, it is funny, full of mystery, and smart writing. It is so good, you feel just like you are there standing next to Harry Potter! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars J.K.Rowling did it again!
"Harry Potter und die Kammer des Schreckens" is the German translation of the second Harry-Potter-book. I think I don't have to tell you anything about the story - see the reviews of the English version for details (besides: who wants to read more about the content of such a book than the back page offers - it would spoil some of the fun since the Potter books are in part a crime story!).

The translation is - judging from my reading experience - well done and worth reading. The language is not too complicated so the book qualifies as reading stuff for a foreigner wishing to practice his German reading skills. I didn't find any translation mistakes - the language sounded genuine German and was vivid and fun to read. The names (always a problem when translating) are not altered, so some of the flair that comes with the nicely selected names of the original is lost to the non-English reader. But this second book shows that this is the right way to go: there is a name-letter-puzzle which plays a key role in this book and translating that one would have been a very hard task indeed.

So the translation receives 5 stars, all well earned for the content as for the translation.

My final note goes to the discussion if this book is for adults as well as teenagers or not: anyone waiting for deep insights into the society, mankind and the world we live in will be disappointed when reading this book. But it is by far the best youth book I ever read, 350 fast pacing pages and I never regretted that I bought it. Nobody whants to read Joyce all the time. And when I turn too light reading stuff, I expect quality as well. Here is where this book has its place in the adult market. ... Read more
