Book Description

To celebrate Peter's birthday, Frederick Warne is publishing new editions of all 23 of Potter's original tales, which take the very first printings of Potter's works as their guide. The aim of these editions is to be as close as possible to Beatrix Potter's intentions while benefiting from modern printing and design techniques.

The colors and details of the watercolors in the volumes are reproduced more accurately than ever before, and it has now been possible to disguise damage that has affected the artwork over the years. Most notably, The Tale of Peter Rabbit restores six of Potter's original illustrations. Four were sacrificed in 1903 to make space for illustrated endpapers, and two have never been used before. Of course, Beatrix Potter created many memorable children's characters, including Benjamin Bunny, Tom Kitten, Jemima Puddle-duck and Jeremy Fisher. But whatever the tale, both children and adults alike can be delighted by the artistry in Potter's illustrations, while they also enjoy a very good read. Because they have always been completely true to a child's experience, Potter's 23 books continue to endure.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great one
Like so few of Potter's books, this one actually makes sense and lives up to its legend. The gags are still funny for starters and there are few, if any, arcane references to long gone trivia. The minor characters are even fun.
My own favorite thing about Jeremy Fisher is that he is eaten, then spit back out because his rain gear doesn't taste good to the fish who's swallowed him! How manybooks do you know where the main character is eaten? Good stuff. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Virtual Vacation!
This is SUCH a neat book! Phineas and his daughter embark on a world tour in his hot air balloon. At each stop, Phineas does some sightseeing and his daughter does some shopping, purchasing souvenirs found in each country. The pictures are comical, the rhyming story is fun, and the puzzle is challenging, though not difficult. My 4 year old and I have gone through the book and it held her attention the whole time. I had thought we might need to read through it in several sittings. We haven't solved the puzzles at the end of the book yet. My 9 year old will be able to solve the puzzles on her own. They involve going back through the book, looking at the places they stopped and what they collected (and lost), then taking letters from these words to spell the answers to the puzzles. FUN!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This book really helped my children with their geographic skills! I would reccomend this book to any family with children! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Frog Girl Promotes Divergent Thinking Skills and Compassion
The story is easy to read aloud and the illustrations are rivetting. I bought this for my three-year-old son, but find myself using it as a teaching tool in my second grade classroom, as well. It is very similar to a story my grandparents (Quinault-Cowlitz/Coast Salish) used to tell me when I was growing up. The message about taking care of all our relations is an important one. The story ignited a new interest in volcanoes and pond-life in my son's imagination. His interest in volcanoes and caves became so keen because of this book that we spent hours in the volcano exhibits at the Natural History Museum and made a special trip to Carlsbad Caverns! Bravo Paul Owen Lewis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful! Native wisdom and inspiring artwork.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, horribly bound paperback
My son is 21 months and he also loved the easy rhymes and fun words in this book. It's good for many giggles. I read it out loud to him 100 times and we both enjoy it.

However, the binding on this particular paperback fell apart within two days. Our day care has a copy that is from a different publisher (perhaps a previous edition) and it hasn't fallen apart. I was very disappointed because a book for toddlers needs to have some strength. A board book would be excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars The big Wide-Mouthed Frog a Hit!
This book is a book that will make the whole family laugh histerically! My husband is not a book reader and HE read the book outloud and we laughed and laughed. We read the book 10 times before we got to our destination and we laughed with tears streaming down our faces! The illustrations and how you read the book also make the book a hoot! I want more books like this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read-aloud book
This is a simple, no-frills book, but is great for reading aloud to pre-schoolers. The active dialogue between the frog and the various animals, is ideal for young children, with their typically short-attention spans. The book also introduces rather unusual animals to children, such as the possum and the emu. In short, a hilarious book, with an interesting twist at the end, and great value for money. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Clovis is too cute!
Anyone with an interest in the French language or Louisiana's unique Cajun culture and wildlife would appreciate the adventures of Clovis the Crawfish. This story centers on Batiste the skunk who is teased by the other wetland animals because of his stinkiness. The story teaches the powerful lesson of tolerance and the appreciation of other's differences. Included in the book are many simple French vocabulary and phrases which are furthered explained and translated in the text. Check out the entire Clovis the Crawfish series. ... Read more

Book Description

Flora the Frog calls out to her friends in the pond. Then they splash and play in the water until nightfall, when it’s time to go to sleep. This Playful Puppets title is one of four attractive little cloth books that do delightful double duty as clever hand puppets. Each puppet is shaped to resemble a friendly animal. Mom or Dad can slip a Playful Puppet on one hand like a glove, insert a finger in each puppet-sizearm, and entertain toddlers with impromptu dramatizations. And when parents unfasten a Velcro tab to open the cloth pages, they can read still another story aloud to keep their child entertained. A little yellow bird, a smiling green frog, a cheerful orange kitten, and a friendly little mouse each has its own illustrated story to tell.Because each Playful Puppet has its own distinctive shape, the 5" x 9" size listed with this title is only approximate. ...
