5-0 out of 5 stars The prince kissed the princess and....
"...and they lived happily ever after." Or did they? The Frog Prince and his Princess aren't getting along too well. He can't seem to stop trying to catch flies on his tongue, or bouncing on the furniture. His Princess, well, in short the relationship just isn't working out. One day the Princess threw an awful fit, and the Frog Prince decides to get someone to turn him back into a frog. After several adventures in which only a good knowledge of fairy tales, long legs and patience keep him safe, he comes back to his castle after realizing the worth of his Princess, and the two go back to living happily ever after. This time however, things are slightly different.

The pictures in this book couldn't be called cute and cuddly, or even cheerful, unless the one doing the calling either doesn't know the meanings of the words or was being sarcastic. The story is told well, and flows nicely. This is a fun book for one who always wonders what happens next.

4-0 out of 5 stars I really liked this book
The book that I read was ok Because the story has a little bit of everthing like snow white and the gingerbread house. The frog prince is not happy living with the princess at first. she bugs him because he still acts like a frog. He jumps around and looks for witches to turn him back into a frog. At the end he realizes that he still loves the princess and they live happily ever after.

I liked this book because it has surpsises and I liked the artwork too. it had really strange pictures.

4-0 out of 5 stars Frog Prince
I hate it when books leave you in suspense of what it left to happen. This book is a perfect example of what should be done to books. It gives you an update of what happens from the frog becomes a prince. I found it to be very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fairy Tale with a Twist
"The Princess kissed the frog. He turned into a prince. And they lived happily ever after..." Well not really. The Princess nags; the Frog Prince has bad amphibian habits that drive her crazy and neither are living very happily. So the Frog Prince decides to go out and find a witch to turn him back into a frog. Along the way, he meets familiar characters from other stories and finds out that maybe life wasn't so bad after all, with the princess. In fact, upon returning home, the Frog Prince kisses the Princess and... This is a silly, irreverent story, told in hip language, with a wonderful twist at the end that will delight and amuse children of all ages. Steve Johnson's illustrations are marvelous and add just the right touch to compliment the story. Great fun for the entire family, The Frog Prince Continues is a story not to be missed.

5-0 out of 5 stars The funniest book ever!
It's exciting and funny and the illustrations are great! It's a good story for all ages. I am 8 years old and even though I love big books and "The Frog Prince Continued" is an easy book...it is GREAT! What people say about other books like "it's soggy at first" doesn't apply to this book. It just isn't the case with this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent wordless book
I love this book! While all of Mercer Mayer's wordless frog books are delightful, this is definitely my favorite. A picture is definitely worth a thousand words in this case. From beginning to end every characters' thoughts and emotions are perfectly clear. The illustrations are delightful and the characters' body language and facial expressions are wonderfully expressive. Even very young children can look at this book and understand what is going on. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Froggy Plays Soccer
I would recommend this book if your child likes soccer or if you are hoping your child will like soccer, otherwise not such a great book.... I thought it was cute but definitely something a child who likes soccer can only appreciate

2-0 out of 5 stars Just mailing it in at this point
The original "Froggy Gets Dressed" book was extremely clever. But this book is the weakest brand extension since Lego clothing. It includes the basic Froggy elements (sound effects starting with z, authority figures yelling "FRROOGGYY", and our noble protagonist turning more red than green) but you have to wonder when the most original part of the story is Froggy picking his nose. Of course, if your child likes Froggy and likes soccer they will love the book, but I wish the authors had put a bit more effort into it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute!
An adorable book. Froggy books are great...if you like the others this is a must have; especially if you knwo someone who loves soccer!

5-0 out of 5 stars ATTENTION SOCCER MOMS!
My four-year-old son loves all of the Froggy books! And when he signed up to play soccer, we read this book every night for the entire season. He chants "Head it, boot it, knee it, shoot it . . . " before every game or practice. We are now buying a copy for the team to autograph and give to the coach. Every soccer mom should get this book! (As well as the other Froggy books!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, fun, and very Froggy!
He's back! A really fun and exciting book for soccer fans...Froggy and his gang of friends are good sports, and have a lot of fun while becoming champions of good attitude, and their league. A great book for parents too, it highlights the fun that should be team competition...and, of course, it's very funny... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful teamwork for my son and me
I think this "We Both Read" series is great. Whatever mood my boy is in when bedtime rolls around - whether he's working with me or against me - this concept works. I read the (difficult) left page in each two page spread, and the child reads the (easy) right. Teamwork. And even though these make no mention of Power Rangers or Batman Beyond, these are my boy's favorites. Along with some math books from Singapore(sgbox.com), and a learn-to-read series called "Now I'm Reading" by Nora Gaydos, these books are a great experience for your child. After your child has finished reading and they climb in bed, give your child something to strive for... turn on your booklight, turn off the room lights, and read your child a chapter or two from a more advanced book. Treasure Island, Harry Potter, anything by Roald Dahl... That's what works for my boys and I.

5-0 out of 5 stars a simple idea, with a touch of genius in it
This series of readers really works. I've been running through them at bedtime with my six-year-old, who adores taking it in turns with me to read her page after I've read mine. It turns reading into a collaborative game, with plenty of play-acting (doing the different voices of the characters) thrown in. At my daughter's stage of reading, a short book can be a long haul, when she has to do it all by herself. The "We Both Read" books break up the text into manageable segments, and give her time-out while I do my share of the work. I'd like to see more and more titles quickly added to the series. I am baffled as to why Amazon should inflict a $1.35 surcharge on the publisher's recommended price--it seems to run entirely counter to the Amazon way of doing things. But the books themselves are splendid. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars we can't put it down!
My husband bought this book for our 15-month old son and it has quickly become a favorite. He laughs at the silly rhymes and smiles as he points to Finklehopper hoppin' and a boppin' along. Even at this young age, he knows a good book...we read it every night and sometimes he even wants to take it into his crib with him! Are there more books out there by Irene Livingston?!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finklehopper
This is a very nice story with wonderful pictures. My husband brought this book home for our three year old and I think he chose very well. It has a nice message...............

5-0 out of 5 stars Finklehopper Frog a "Feel-Good" Treat!
Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, and Finklehopper Frog has gotta...jog! Finklehopper is so excited to join the jogging craze, he even buys himself a jazzy jogging suit. But Finklehopper's enthusiasm dwindles when some of the animals say he dresses funny and he doesn't jog right!

Our hero Finklehopper hurtles through this hilarious and heartwarming story of optimism and courage and wins our hearts as he discovers his own way to go (with a little help from his friends, of course).

Irene Livingston's rhyming narrative is fresh, original and respectful of her young audience:

"He hippied and he hoppied
and he sang a sweet ker-chog,
until he started wondering,
'is this the way to jog?'"

Brian Lies' illustrations are vibrant and rich in delightful detail. Readers are drawn into a world where snakes shop for sweatbands and somebody must live in the storm sewer, because there's a mailbox at the door.

This is a picture book that parents will be glad to read "again." It's sure to be a favourite for anyone who has ever wondered if they dare try something new. Don't miss this delicious and encouraging treat. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I was looking at this book with my sister (who's a teacher), and we loved it. There's no writting, so children can discuss what happened in th argument etc... It's also a story that can mean many things, from fights on the playground to war.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fabulous Book for Older Children
I am currently a 5th grade teacher, but I have shared this book with 4th graders also. It is a great book to bring out when "trouble" begins to brew in your classroom. The students are facinated with a "wordless" book, and they also enjoy reading a picture book (something they often do not read as they get older).
This book illustrates what happens when 2 individuals start an argument and then gain assistance from others who are not originally involved, resulting in a large catastrophe . These situations happen many times on the playground, and all I have to do is show them this book and discuss that fighting does not improve anything.
I recommend this to all upper grade teachers. I enjoy it, and it teaches a valuable lesson in life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pictures worth a thousand words
Popov's allegorial tale is a witty and provocative tale that will appeal to "readers" of all ages. His drawings have a dark comedic edge that does not undermine the seriousness of his message. "Why?" is a wonderful book for stimulating discussion on conflict, its causes and its end results. Bravo, Popov, for a job well done. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nicky Loved It
It's the best Commander Toad book! I like them all. They all are great. The monster in this one was cool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, funny science fiction for kids and their parents
Commander Toad is a delight. He's "bold and bright", though not quite as bright as he thinks. His crew (an amalgam of loose takes on Star Wars and Star Trek characters) puts up with his prideful ways, because he is, after all, a good leader. Together with his mixed-gender crew he gets into and out of a wonderful series of scrapes. This book is the first in the series.

Jane Yolen writes for kids. For example, when Commander and crew are threatened by a sea monster who makes it clear that they're about to be lunch, I asked my 4-year old what he thought would happen.

"Shoot him with a ray gun," he answered.

"I don't know," I said. "I think that they'll find out that the monster's just lonely, and they'll make friends."

Turn the page, and BAM! Lt. Lily, Toad's female weapons master, is blasting away (to no effect). Thanks, Jane. Only you could make a story about a bunch of space-explorer frogs be true-to-life.

Jane Yolen also writes for the adults who read books to their kids. There's nearly a pun a page, and the Commander's ludicrous solutions to problems have a germ of genius unrestrained by the laws of physics that will have you shaking your head over his cleverness.

Buy this book, or regret the lost opportunity. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Argh, Matey!
Boredom settles over the crew of the space ship STAR WARTS and Commander Toad has to do something quick. Lieutenant Lily, Mr. Hop, Jake Skyjumper and Doc Peepers are all unhappy. They've watched all the ship's movies-SPLASH GORDON, THE TOAD WARRIOR, INDIANA FROG AND THE LILY PAD OF DOOM-and read all the ship's books-ROBIN TOAD, THE LIZARD OF OZ, and SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN WARTS-and played a lot of croak-kay, leapfrog, and hopscotch. There is nothing to do and they're all going a little crazy. That all changes the day Commander Salamander and his pirate crew arrive. Commander Salamander boards STAR WARTS and takes everyone captive except for Doc Peepers. Only a little while after that, Commander Salamander makes Commander Toad Hop the Plank at sword point! Only Doc Peepers can save the day!

Jane Yolen is an award-winning children's book author as well as a writer of adult science fiction and fantasy. She's earned the Caldecott-given for the most distinguished picture book, the Nebula-given to the most distinguished writing in the field of science fiction and fantasy, the Golden Kite-given by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and the World Fantasy Award. She's written seven Commander Toad Adventures, including COMMANDER TOAD AND THE LONG VOYAGE HOME, COMMANDER TOAD AND THE PLANET OF THE GRAPES, COMMANDER TOAD AND THE SPACE PIRATES, and COMMANDER TOAD AND THE BIG BLACK HOLE. With dozens of books written in many genres, Jane Yolen is a great author to introduce to young readers.

Fun to read out loud and filled with puns and sight gags really well drawn by Bruce Degen, COMMANDER TOAD AND THE SPACE PIRATES is a blast to share with young or reluctant readers. The sentences are short and choppy, driving the story on and filling the events with laughs. The pirate talk, "Yo-ho-ho, me slithery-slees!" is top-notch and will inspire young readers to quote the lines long after the book is finished-if an adult is willing to read the passages in a properly piratical dramatization. The solution to the pirates, once revealed, is hilarious and makes perfect sense even to pre-readers who understand story and set-up that comes in narrative repetition.

The Commander Toad series, all seven books, is recommended for imaginative young readers who have already been exposed to STAR WARS, STAR TREK, and various other science fiction based television shows and movies. Jane Yolen is one of the most entertaining authors for young minds out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars In space, no one can hear you get really, really bored...
Commander Toad and the crew of the good spaceship Star Warts are bored out of their minds. They have played all of their games like leap frog and croak-kay, they have read all of their books like "Robin Toad" and "The Lizard of Oz," and they have watched all of there movies like "Splash Gordon" and "Indiana Frog and the Lilly Pad of Doom" so many times that the crew is desperate for something different. The good news is that the crew of the Star Warts get the diversion they want, but the bad news is that what breaks up the boredom is a gang of space pirates, led by the notorious Commander Salamander, the Scourge of the Skies and Goon of the Galaxie, who has a new game for the hostage crew to play: Hop the Plank.

"Commander Toad and the Space Pirates" is, on a very basic level, quite silly. But young readers are going to be drawn to the relentless puns and Jane Yolen does a good job of setting the reader up for something surprising to happen (probably involving a whole lot of tongue depressers) without really giving away what the big surprise is going to be at the end of the book. The artwork by Bruce Degen is appropriate (you will believe that a frog can fly...a spaceship) and does a nice job of capturing the narrative action. This is one of those books where you trick young kids into learning a life lesson, because while their chances of going off into deep space on a spaceship commanded by a toad are rather remote, kids manage to get bored all the time (or, more to the point, they often complain about being bored, which is not necessarily the same thing). So if any youngster makes the mistake of announcing that they are "bored" within your hearing, then toss this book at them, which should solve both their short-term and long-term problems with regards to the subject of boredom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Argh, mateys!

5-0 out of 5 stars A truly delightful children's book
Jane Yolen's "Commander Toad" series is a charming science fiction spoof, and an excellent children's book. The detailed, zany illustrations by Bruce Degen are the perfect complement to the witty text and off-the-wall characters. The test of any children's book is its reception by actual children, and "Commander Toad and the Space Pirates" gets full marks there. It has been requested so many times by my 5- and 3- year-old siblings that I can now recite it from memory. The text stands the test of many repetitions, and my five year old brother, just now learning to write, can often be heard to request "Mom, how do you spell 'Commander Toad'? How do you spell 'Space Pirates?'. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love is in the Air.....
It's the week before Valentine's Day, and Froggy's in love. There's a new girl in his class, Frogilina, and he just can't take his eyes off her. He's mooning and staring and when she smiles at him, "his insides got all soft and wiggly, like he'd had caterpillars for breakfast." All week long Frogilina sits with him at lunch giving him little treats from her lunch bag. It's a match made in heaven. That is until Valentine's Day. Frogilina has an extra special surprise for Froggy, something he never expected. It turned his face red, it made his tummy feel weird, he couldn't eat, not even his dessert, and it made all his friends laugh and tease him. Frogilina gave Froggy a big, juicy kiss, right on his cheek..... Nobody captures the essence of an irrepressible preschooler like Jonathan London and Frank Remkiewicz. Mr London's joyful, spirited text is full of energy and sound effects, and begs to be read out loud. Mr Remkiewicz's bold, bright, and expressive artwork enhances the story, and together they use humor to take some of the mystery and embarrassment out of a real life situation. Perfect for preschoolers, Froggy's First Kiss is an engaging and entertaining story with a happy ending that solves all of Froggy's love problems, and a wonderful Valentine's Day read kids will want to hear again and again.

3-0 out of 5 stars This is a nice book.
It is probably not the best in the series, but my students love Froggy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Froggy is back
This book is very cute. The story is entertaining and fun. I have loved the Froggy character ever since reading FROGGY GETS DRESSED. The illustrations are very bright and catching. The story about Froggy's first kiss could apply to so many childrens feeling as well as adults. How did you feel with your first kiss. My students love for me to do voice changes with the Froggy stories. I have reread so many of Froggys stories over and over to my students.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another in the coolest series of children's books available
FRRRROOOOGGGGGYYYY! is back, much to the delight of his many fans. This time, it's Valentine's Day, and Froggy's friends think he has a girlfriend. Whatever is a frog to do? London's text is entertaining and a joy for adults to read (especially if you like to do voices) and the illustrations are supreme! Another hit for this author/illustrator team. Also try Froggy Gets Dressed (or Froggy Se Viste for the bilingual crowd.) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT, BUT . . .
the lyrics are not the ones you might be expecting, and may not "match" lyrics you have on a CD or elsewhere. In this modernized version of the classic Scottish tune, froggie carries "roses & chocolates" by his side rather than a sword & pistol. He doesn't marry Miss Mousy -- rather, he marries a fellow frog only AFTER he has asked all of the other animals in his environs to marry him, and they reject him for various reasons (he likes a wet home, whereas miss birdy lives in a tree; he eats bugs when other animals prefer nuts -- how would such a couple resolve their differences? Is this a subtle criticism on miscengenation? The "stick to your own kind" message in West Side Story?) The illustrations are full-page, beautifully-colored, and first-rate, and the rhymes are very clever; they're just different from those I learned as a child. I would definitely recommend the book -- just want you to know what to expect. I particularly like the fact that the author included the music notation at the end of the book, for a play-along/sing-along.

5-0 out of 5 stars Based on the traditional, merry song of the same name
Froggie Went A-courtin' is a thoroughly delightful and highly recommended children's picture book by Iza Trapani and based on the traditional, merry song of the same name. Warm and jubilant color illustrations by Trapani bring to life this simple and enjoyable tale about a frog searching for someone to be his wife, until a lady frog comes to him. The final page presents a simple, sheet music rendition of the popular ditty for budding musicians.

5-0 out of 5 stars MOVE OVER RHETT BUTLER, STEP ASIDE ROMEO
Move over Rhett Butler, step aside Romeo, there's a new heartthrob out and about - Froggie, Iza Trapani's adorable lovesick frog is on the prowl. As the Bard put it, the course of true love never runs smooth - surely apt in Froggie's case. Nonetheless, he has gumption and, as nother said, hope springs eternal!

Trapani sets her search for the perfect mate to song, sure to appeal to young ones, ages 2-7. Her endearing and mirthful illustrations make this a romance story to remember.

Remember, you may have to kiss a frog to find a prince but you just have to read this book for loads of enjoyment.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite fall book
The story AND pictures in this book are outstanding. The story's rich character, Rebecca Estelle, comes to life on the page with Megan Lloyd's beautiful illustrations. If you love pumpkins and fall this book is a must have! I love it so much I read it over and over again all year...not just in the fall. However, I ALWAYS share it with my first graders in October and they love it as much as I do! A hardback edition is available from the publisher.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the Pumpkins!
My 3 year old daughter loves this book! We currently have it checked out of the library, but may have to buy it for ourselves. She love "Errebecca Estelle" as she calls her, and got a huge kick when I made pumpkin muffins yesterday. Great story that she will enjoy for years!

5-0 out of 5 stars Never too many reads!
This is a book that stays with you even when you are not reading it! My older son has adored this book for years and now my younger son is requesting it as well... I think I could probably recite it from memory at this point! We are often caught in the rhyme of "pumpkin muffins, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin pies..." when found in the kitchen or picking pumpkins or other activities that remind us of this book! Definately a well read book in our house - and a keeper for the library for years to come! Oh, and amongst the enjoyment are heart-felt lessons to learn and grow on.

3-0 out of 5 stars DON'T LOOK NOW, BUT THERE ARE PUMPKINS OUT THERE
Rebecca Estelle hates pumpkins. NO, reaLLY? The old woman doesn't use her front door anymore and keeps the front house windows' curtains closed--because there are PUMPKINS OUT THERE. Sounds like a real nut, huh?

My grandmother grew up during the Depression, and all she had to eat was bananas. She just doesn't care to eat them anymore, but she wouldn't hide in her bedroom if someone put some in her kitchen.

This book is cute as heck, and my little sister adores it. We love pumpkins, which is why we like this book-about someone who hates them. Sure, so the fact that making a bunch of cakes and pies from the front yard pumpkins seems easier than just delivering them is a little nerdy, and even more so is the idea that people would just show up at her front door to eat them because she put a bunch of jack-o-lanterns in her front yard--But hey, it's a children's book, where quality is supposed to be derived from such inanities. It's just that this book is not odd enough to make some of these lamenitties;) work.

Overall, this book embraces an endearing absurdity perfect for the little pumpkin book lover. I recommend it.

This book is about a woman named Rebecca. She hates pumpkins, because when she was little, that is all she ate for a month was pumpkins. Her well planted garden has everything BUT pumpkins. One day, a pumpkin truck went speeding down her road. The truck made a sharp turn and a huge pumpkin fell off the truck, and into her yard. After cleaning it up, Rebecca forgot about the whole incident. The following year during spring, Rebecca went outside to find that the pumpkin smithereens the following year had caused more pumpkins to grow. Soon, a mass amount of pumpkins is growing in Rebecca's yard.

I liked this book because the ending is not what you would expect. To find out what happens to Rebecca, read this book. ... Read more
