5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!
a classic story with beautiful, soft illustrations. these are the stories children will remember as they grow up. i started reading these stories to my son as soon as i brought him home from the hospital. although i wont know for sure for many years, he seemed to listen and enjoy the stories...although others may deem them full of "verbalization" (huh?), i call them beautiful words strung together for the enjoyment of children of all ages.

1-0 out of 5 stars wind in the willows
This book review is about the book wind in the willows. The author of this book is Kenneth Graham. This book is about a water mouse and a mole who made friends on the side of a river bed. In the storie they have many daring adventures together. I thought this book was too long and very boring. It's something I wouldn't recommend because the stories have too much verbalization in it.

Farley the frog can't stop farting. The doctor says it's only gas and it will pass. The trouble is, it does! Comic pictures and a tongue-in-cheek text relate how Farley and his family learn that it's better to fart and bear the shame than not to fart and bear the pain! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars PPFFFOOOTTT!
Farley has been farting. He farts at home, he farts at school, he farts in the pond. "It was like a jacuzzi!" But mother frog is worried and sends him to the doctor. The doctor says, "'It will pass.' Unfortunately, it KEPT passing." As Farley's gas builds, he gets bigger and bigger--too big for his clothes and eventually too big for the door. One day, Farley has stored up so much gas that he floats away into the sky. His father comes up with a solution worthy of Grandpa Joe: "'Fart, Farley, just as loud as you can!' But Farley couldn't hear him. 'What, Dad?' 'PPFFFOOOTTT!' everyone shouted." So Farley farts, drifts back down and celebrates with bean soup...but this time Farley's not the one who farts!

Gross bodily humor is captured here in a story that's almost too cute for it. I love her painting style--acrylics scrubbed over in layers with a faint similarity to David Shannon's. Perhaps with a little more of Shannon's naughty wit, this story would "rise" to the occasion. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars My child loves to finish the second half of the words
Great concept for a book. My 2 year old daughter loves to finish the second half of the words, and she's so pleased with herself for remembering what each thing turns out to be. I was attracted to the book by its wonderful illustrations and it's western, kind of twangy, look. Excellent book for girls and boys both.

4-0 out of 5 stars Creative design coupled with active writing!
Hedgehogs, ladybugs, and cowboys cross the path of a bullfrog searching for his lost hop in this colorful journey through the Old West, where nothing appears as it seems. The creatively designed tale integrates illustrations and text placement to continuously keep the reader expecting the unexpected. Walton crafts an interactive picture book that encourages readers to guess what will appear on the following page. For instance, he separates the final word in each sentence, such as "He looked under a hedge..." and designs an illustration to accompany the image like a representation of a hedge; yet, a turn of the page reveals a hedgehog sitting in the desert--a surprising completion to the image and compound word! The full-color illustrations use pirmay color shading rather than detail to expound on and compliment the easy flow of the text. The storybook paces itself with a single action per page supported by the clever artisitic impressions. Young readers, as well as young children with parental assistance, quickly catch onto the text pattern, attending to the endless possibilites of what may come next in the bullfrog's search for his hop. This page-turing journey of the bullfrog provides an opportunity for an interactive, high-energy read aloud as a whole class activity or as a shared reading between parent and child. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Smart and touching.
This book is one of my three year old's favorites. The pictures are bright, clear, and colorful. Baby Bird has fallen out of her nest, and wants to go back to her mama, but she is sound asleep and cannot rescue her. Little Frog helps Baby Bird build a nest so she can have a place to sleep for the night. From there adventure follows... The book is a sweet story about friendship and helping one another. I also thought the vocabulary was somewhat complex, but in a very accessable way, that is not over children's heads. In addition, the dialogue is just plain sweet: "Your mama's nice", said Little Frog. However, the funniest picture I have ever seen is of Baby Bird in her nest just as Little Frog is leaping out because he senses danger. Baby Bird is sitting back with her wings resting on the sides as if on the beach relaxing in a lawn chair. ... Read more

My kids laughed histarically when we got this book from the library for my six year old to practice reading. My four year old also wanted to read it himself. The text is simple enough for them to repeat after I read it to them. They love this silly book so much I'm going to buy one for them. It is definately a keeper!

Froggy is distracted. At home his mother has to remind him to do his homework, and at school his teacher chides him for not paying attention. But how can he? Halloween is next week and he must come up with a great costume. How about Super Frog? "Flying high over the city.Faster than a dragonfly! Stronger than a bullfrog!" Or perhaps something scarier: Count Von Frogula! But then his mom reminds him that vampires have fangs, and that Froggy is a toothless wonder. Froggy has a lot of spooky thoughts on his mind, that's for sure; little does he know just how scary his Halloween will be!Jonathan London hones in on the joys and horrors of Halloween for the young, especially for boys who are not prepared for the amorous attentions of girls. He and Frank Remkiewicz (Quiet, Wyatt!) have collaborated on the numerous other lighthearted, frolicsome Froggy books in the series. (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Froggy's Halloween
I purchased this book for my two sons ages 2 and 4. I am incredibly disappointed in this book. Jonathan London should be ashamed of this title. If you as a parent think it is funny for the text to teach your child "trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat; if you don't, I don't care, I'll pull down your underwear" then buy it. Otherwise, boycott this book for all the right reasons!!! Truly distasteful and offensive literature.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ready for Halloween?
It's almost Halloween and Froggy still can't decide what costume to wear. Should he be super frog, ghost frog or vampire frog? How about a football player, cowboy or even a zombie. All week he gets ready for Halloween, carving pumpkins and hanging spider webs and ghosts. He's even practiced saying "Trick or treat, smell my feet./Give me something good to eat." Finally when the big day comes, Froggy decides to be the Frog Prince, complete with crown and sword. Now he's off for a scary evening of tricks, treats, surprises and fun..... No one captures the essence of a busy pre-schooler as well as Jonathan London and Frank Remkiewicz. Mr London's lively text is full of sound effects, energy and humor and complemented by Mr Remkiewicz's bold, bright and expressive artwork. Together they've authored a clever and entertaining story about an engaging character that your little "Froggy" will easily identify with. This is the perfect read aloud story to help everyone get into the Halloween spirit. Froggy's Halloween is part of a marvelous series that youngsters just can't get enough of. Read them all and enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Froggy delighted me again!
This book is just as funny and charming as the other Froggy tales. I especially liked the Halloween costumes in the illustrations. Just as expected, Froggy has an embarrassing moment and of course he is "more red in the face than green"! This book is a wonderful addition to any personal or educational library! ... Read more
