5-0 out of 5 stars Are We Where Yet?
Travel can be confusing (and sometimes boring) to children, but this journal can help parents deal with that! My daughter and I found this book in the Houston airport as we were browsing stores during a long layover. I bought it out of desperation (after all, it had markers and blank pages!), but it turned out to be a wonderful investment. It is a very kid-oriented travel journal, with questions, hints, and prompts to guide the young journalist through recording their trip(s). It gives you and your child something to do together while flying or at night in the hotel, and as an extra bonus, it's a great show-and-tell item when your child returns to school. I've saved the journal for my daughter's trunk, so that years from now she can read her own thoughts about Oregon and Arizona! We highly recommend this!! (One aside: smart six and seven year olds will do just fine with this journal if you work with them.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't leave home without it!
This travel journal is an excellent tool to capture vacation memories and relive them for a lifetime. The journal boasts brightly colored "topic" pages along with markers and stickers which allows the child's creativity to shine through in words and/or artwork. We've used this travel journal for three vacations and wouldn't leave home without it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes 15-hour ride fun
We have used this book for three long car trips--800 miles each way. It has provided us with a wonderful journal to look back on in later years. In addition, the games, activities, and songs in the book help make a long car ride fun. I just bought four more to give as gifts. This book is wonderful for anyone, not just kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great travel journal for kids!
I bought 2 of these journals for my 2 kids to take on a recent cross-country trip to visit relatives. The journals have a page to record what happens each day, plus a whole section of travel games. The kids had fun writing in their journals every day, and now we can look back and remember all the fun we had! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for entertaining my Grandaughter
When my grandaughter visits, she loves me to play cats cradle with her. Plus she has learned to do many of the string figures. It is a challenge and a fun accomplishment. We have many times misplaced the string and I end up buying the book again just for the string. Does anyone know where we can buy extra strings? I know we can use any string; but we like the nice colored one that comes with the book, and I was hoping that someone, somewhere would have these strings available.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun and good explanations--perfect even for young kids
We bought this on vacation for my five year old daughter, and it turned out to be the perfect gift. The pictures are clear--not just diagrams with arrows, but pictures of the hands, showing every little step. The string is included--an important point, since they fuse the ends of the string rather than tying them, making it much easier for little hands. Jesse was better at learning by doing than reading the diagrams, but she was able to use them to figure out what she was doing wrong once she had it more or less right.

The book contains five string patterns: Cup and Saucer, Eiffel Tower, Witch's Broom, Cat's Cradle, and Jacob's Ladder; though in fact Cup and Saucer is a stage on the way to Eiffel Tower. We found that Jesse could do Cup and Saucer and Witch's Broom just fine, though Eiffel Tower was a little trickier. Cat's Cradle was doable with some coaching--made a bit harder by the fact that it's a two person figure. Jacob's Ladder, however, is much more complicated, and will take an adult quite a few minutes to master.

Most of us, myself included, have done some string figures as children, usually Cat's Cradle, and I have to say I got as much fun out of this as Jesse. But Jesse had fun too--the string is brightly coloured and the string figures are good, strong simple shapes. It was days before she stopped showing off her "Cup and Saucer" to us!

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE love it! 9 year old
Got this 'used/3rd party' for a great price and we love this. It's got all the old ones from when I grew up and couldn't remember, and my 9-year-old taught herself and is teaching me.
Great binding. Excellent thing to do while waiting and for fine motor skills development. Good quiet time activity. Well worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great resource
I use this book at home with my children but I use it even more in ESL classes. Learning a language is much easier when you're DOING something. The string figures have been a good activity to use in learning to give directions, explain, practice short sentences and even to use as an attention getter for a grammar lesson.
As mentioned in other reviews, both adults and children enjoy them and string figures are universally known and appreciated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cats Cradle
This is a fabulous book with bright colors and fun artwork. The directions are easy to follow and everyone can be successful when trying these string games. I have used this book to teach large groups of people how to play string games and they loved it. This is a good book for anyone interested in learning basic string games. The book came with a string to make the designs, so you don't have to make one. ... Read more

On every page, kids play peek-a-boo with a different animal found at the zoo, guessing what it is, then lifting the flap to find out. 5-0 out of 5 stars Giggles galore
My son lights up and laughs when he sees this book. He loves the peekaboo concept, but giggles even harder when mommy gets the sound "wrong." If you are signing with your child, this book provides a great opportunity to reinforce the sign with the animal sound.

One note, my niece was scared of this book when she first got it. We think it was the was the eyes are drawn...but who knows!

Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Strange Animals but Baby Loves It
My daughter is now 9 months old and peek-a-boo is her favorite game. She really likes this book. The flaps are big enough for her to lift by herself. Personally I find it a strange choice of animals for me to mimic their noises. E.g. "snort! goes the rhinocerous". I didn't realise there was a "Peek-a-moo" book which I'd probably prefer. My daughter doesn't seem to care though and loves this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Heartfelt Intriguing Answers
This is by far the best book I have ever come across about the night of April 15, 1912 when the Titanic sank.
This book is filled with 882 ½ facts (because the ship was 882 ½ ft. long) about the people, the ship, crew, heartwarming stories of how mothers pleaded for their sons to be allowed into life boats, how lovers said goodbye to each other, how people were refused into life boats, and how others never made it out of the ship.
There are detailed names, dates, info about the aftermath, a "whatever happened to..." page with facts about survivors, as well as great info about the discovery of the ship, exploration of the wreckage, facts about the movie directed by James Cameron, and a great glossary at the back of the book to learn about different words associated with the ship.

What I love most about this book is the heartfelt facts about the people who were on the ship, and what happened to them. If you have ever wanted to learn about The Titanic, this is THE book to buy. An Outstanding tribute to the souls loved and lost. Deserves 10 Stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marvelous!
Brilliant reference book. If you ever had wondering questions about the Titanic, this is your book. Summary: This book has answers to almost all of your questions about the ship and the sinking, etc. Wonderful facts. Reaction: Though this book is thin, it has plenty of little bits that can keep you interested 100 years later. Every Titanic fanatic will find a new fact on the ship and the people involved with it. Wonderful. A MUST BUY!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool!

It was easy to read, well written, and had many photos. This book's questions and answers were very interesting, and I learned a lot from reading this book. This is an awesome book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
This book is the most interasting book I've ever read about Titanic, and trust me I've read lots of them. There is 882 1/2 interasting answers on your questions about Titanic. 5-0 out of 5 stars For all ages, challenging, fun!
There are forty-six dot-to-dot puzzles. The dots are arranged in a way that when you begin working on it, you can't guess what it will turn out to be. The highest number in the book is 250, so this is appropriate for any aged person that can count to 250, although most of the puzzles are under 160. Unlike most dot to dot books, the page/puzzle size is 9.5 x 11 inches. The spaces between dots is sometimes very small which lends to a detailed image. Keep in mind, though, that young children may lack the fine motor skills to draw very straight short lines in order to make the best looking image. Adults who like dot-to-dot puzzles will find these fun. The paper is high quality and white, (not cheap newsprint paper). I am not sure of the papers' pound weight but it is heavier than 20 lb. copy paper.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Found My Dots!
I had been searching book stores and toy stores for months before finding Book 1 in a puzzle catalog, I then contacted the author to find out how to buy Book 2. Upon receipt of The Greatest Dot to Dot Book in the World Book 2, I immediately turned to a new type of puzzle called Crazy Dots on page 31. It was quite interesting and puzzling. It took many pencil strokes before I was able to see what the finished image might be. I love both books as I am an avid game and puzzle fan. I particularly like the unusual puzzles like Crazy Dots, No Dots and Field of Dots. I'm much older than the target audience for these books, but I do enjoy them anyway. I was afraid these types of books no longer existed, so I was thrilled to find Mr. Kalvitis' books. I will look forward to Book 3 and so on. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars GOOD STICKER BOOK
What is it with kids and stickers? It appears to be the most purposeless activity ever devised! --- pull a sticker off and put it ... well ... anywhere!

But be that as it may, you had better make sure you have lots on hand because your kids will want to have them. I bought this for my two-year-old daughter. She was little too young to appreciate the intricacies of the book (you can put all sorts of exagerated features on the heads of the Royal Family --- outrageous man!), and ended up putting stickers all over the place.

But that kept her attention for awhile and allowed us to keep her enthused for a six-hour-long flight. So I think that the book can be most widely utilised by kids 3-6, but there is still stuff there for your two year old.

A hearty reccomendation. And the book ain't all that big so do not be daunted by size.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stickers Galore!
I ordered this sticker book for myself, hunting for some unusual stickers. This sticker book has stickers of a few brand name food items as well as some very unusual items you wouldn't find in your ordinary sticker pack you buy at the stationary store. That is what appeals to me about the book. It was definitely worth the money, you get a LOT of unusual and cute stickers. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to start stickering up my cards and letters! I can see where it would be a fun book for the little ones, I'm almost tempted myself to fill in the games in the book lol

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Sticker Book!
I got two of these books (one for each of my two kids) for our last vacation. The kids loved them! Not only did they last through the car rides and the whole week of vacation... there were plenty of stickers left for weeks after! This book has more stickers than anything else I have ever seen!! Plus, there is no right or wrong way to put the stickers on.

The kids had tons of fun with this book!! I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking for sticker fun!!! :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great sticker book for kids and adults!
My daughter and I did this sticker book on an airplane trip and it was so much fun. Now, a year later, I am going to buy it again for another plane trip, even though we have been through it once already, there is so many variations, that it will be great the second time around! Well worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone loved to play with this book!
The perfect book to help keep quiet in the car on a trip. With so many stickers, it last a long time. People of all ages wanted to play with it, and it was passed aound a lot. I give anything that keeps the kids quiet on a road trip, a BIG, thumbs up! ... Read more

Inspired by the artistic imaginings of children, Walter Wick has made a career of setting up and photographing elaborate miniature sets crammed with gazillions of gewgaws--yo-yos, buttons, plastic sheep, hot dog buns, playing cards, spoons, funnels, domino tiles, teapot spouts--in the I Spy series (with Jean Marzollo) and his bestselling Can You See What I See? Picture Puzzles to Search and Solve. Dream Machine continues this tradition with a space-age twist. The first two-page spread, "Bedtime," is a grownup-eyed view of a child’s darkened bedroom, with the accompanying text: "Can you see/ what I see?/ Five cards, a bike,/ three soccer balls,/ a spotted owl,/ striped overalls,/ an elephant,/ a dog asleep,/ a dinosaur tail,/ seven white sheep,/ a yo-yo, a boat,/ a can, a jar,/ a lightning bolt/ on a little red car!" In subsequent spreads the camera lens zooms in to focus on the tiny worlds within worlds under the child's chair. Clutter gives way to order as the reader is asked to join Wick in his nighttime dreamscape. The possibilities are endless for sharp-eyed children who choose to go beyond the "search and solve" puzzles. Hours of fun await! (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more
