This book was adorable and helpful. I bought a different book of similar topic and was very disappinted. This was a much better buy and I highly recommend it especially for the young new attendant!

4-0 out of 5 stars I'm in the Wedding Too : A Complete Guide for Flower Girls &
I bought this as part of a gift to my junior bridesmaid. It is an excellent book to help include the little girls in your wedding. It also doubles as a scrapbook for the girls. I highly recommend this book, my junior bridesmaid loved it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully surprised!
Desperate for a "guide" to give to my young flower girl, I came across this book. I ordered it not knowing what to expect. This book is wonderful. It not only explained the who's and what's of a wedding ceremony and reception, it also doubled as a memory book. It includes pages for pictures of the wedding or the child's own drawings and pages for writing thoughts, feelings and accounts of the day. The book also has a sense of childhood fantasy and not just the "facts" of a "how to". I was so pleased with this book, I ordered another for my Jr. bridesmaid.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful rememberance in the eyes of the flower girl!
This is a fantastic book! It's full of fun and information for the flower girl to understand the wedding process and her role. In addition, it is a journal for words and pictures to record her experience, along with a keepsake envelope. For both the flower girl and bride, it's a very special keepsake to be cherished and read over and over...forever!!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This book was more about weapons than about arms and armor.
This book isn't really about arms and armor-- it's about weapons. If you are looking for a book that is compleatley about arms and armor, then find another book, but if you want a book that is about the history of weapons, then this is the book for you. I was looking for arms and armor, and this book didn't really have that much information on it.

5-0 out of 5 stars SEE real weapons and armor
DK eyewitness books are some of the greatest non-fiction books around. The distinctive white background and high-quality photography gives this book an edge over any other nonfiction picture book. And -- these pictures are real! They're beautiful museum-quality photos of all things related to arms & armor, accompanied by informative captions and text.

Learn about all types of armor and weapons, how they were used, and the people who used them.

If you know someone (young or old) who is fascinated by armor, then you must introduce them to this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Reference
From a different perspective, I have always found this book to be a wonderful reference for role-playing games. In my D&D campaign, this book was required reading for all players. It may not be the most thorough book on the subjest but it is pretty close. It gives those new to gaming an incredible viewpoint of medieval armour, siege weapons and types of weapons and their uses that fall outside the general point of reference for most young people. Any RPG fan is sure to love this book.

Aside from RPG fans, I think this book has something to offer everyone. All of the books in the Eyewitness series stand apart as an amazing set of visual reference volumes. Vivid illustration and bold lettering make them easy to read and do not put off younger readers while the wealth of information available and the thoroughness which they have exercised in creation of these volumes earn these books a welcome place in any reference library - whether school, village or home.

5-0 out of 5 stars I reccomend this book
I reccomend this book for anyone wishing to learn more about weaponry or doing a school project. While I was studing a specific part of the book for an article in American history, I found interest in many other parts of the book as well. It was very helpful and very interesting. ... Read more

This was my favorite book when I was a kid. It is the only one I really remember and it was one of the things that led me to major in Wildlife Biology. I have since worked on the Bison EIS(Environmental Impact Statement)in Yellowstone National Park. Thanks Shag!

As a child I remember this book as the first I read and gave me the desire to learn more about the west and the days of the pioneer spirt. As I approach the time of becoming a grandmother I will cherish the time I will spend reading this book to my little ones over and over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars All time favorite children's book
This was my favorite book as a child. It is meatier than the typical children's tome, and filled with simple yet real life information about the buffalo and its environment toward the end of its heyday in the 1870's. I highly recommend this for any parent who wants to introduce their child to a slightly more challenging story that will stimulate the brain and encourage a more advanced intellect, without sacrificing the charm and innocence that a children's volume also needs. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Gift Experience
I bought this book as a gift for a bright young lady who was fascinated with the appearance of the stones themselves, but although I liked the content of the book, I was wholly unable to persuade the recipient even to peruse the text as light reading.

It was enticing enough for me, but I claim the blame for missing the target. Experiences may vary -- if they're readers, they're readers -- if they're not, that's another subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Educational
This book shows tons of different kinds of rocks. Very great if your child likes rocks or if you want to read up on the subject.

4-0 out of 5 stars very descriptive geology
Beutiful pictures with detailed captions. It shows igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks. It tells which rocks we use in our everyday life. Overall it is pretty good. I like the part were they tell the uses of flint.

5-0 out of 5 stars How did they fit all those rocks between two covers?
Most of the rock-and-mineral books I see are full of colorful pictures of exotic minerals, underground caves or far-away mountains. This is the first book I've come across that actually takes you to those places. The simple, clever mirror device pops those rocks right into your lap, or brings the mountain up close.

The information is accurate and well-written. Full color spreads illustrate the location or object and the photography is breathtaking. This is one you'll want to find space for, on that "oversized" book shelf, to accomodate the height of the book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Educationl Text
I'm a teacher and I find the Eyewitness books highly educational. I like the way the concepts are presented in a form without backgrounds. This gives clear facts to the reader without over taxing the attention span. The books are highly informative, presenting difficult concepts in comprehendable chunks that stimulate interest. I have almost the whole collection for my own children and they LOVE them!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Pictures and Descriptions
As with the other "Eyewitness" books published by DK Publishing, this one is right on the mark for a beginner and seasoned fossil collector with pictures and descriptions that correllate very well with each other. Includes information of most all common fossils and a few of harder to find fossils. Not for researching significant hard-to-find or rare fossils. 5-0 out of 5 stars My Roots
I have read the book Only The Names Remain many many times. I am of Cherokee blood and my roots are from Oklahoma. I was very interested in my history when I was younger and I found this book in my library. It tells so much about what has happened to the Cherokees throughout those tough years. While reading it to my Grandma she pointed out that my Great Great Great Grandfather was a Cherokee Chief and is talked about in the book. In the older versions there is also a black and white drawing of him. Because of this book, I can tell my grandchildren and my children the interesting story of how their grandfather saved President Andrew Jackson's life in a battle before he became president. I'm so glad that a book like this was written to tell both the good and the bad of the Cherokee life. It makes me wish that I could learn more and more about it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good foundation
Like all the Eyewitness books, the quantity of information in Castle is both its strong point and weak point. We are taken to castles through time as well as in different cultures, and both the architectural and sociological aspects are examined. However, many of the facts and pictures included on a given page seem rather random and do not fit into a coherent general presentation.

Castle is good fun if one remembers to read the main sections and the details when they're specifically interesting, but to just enjoy the pictures for some of the minutia.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not good.
Eyewitness Castles, Medieval Life, Knights: Boring. Eyewitness Castle isn't that good. It is very boring. The water Eyewitness books like Eyewitness SHARK are far more better then Castles, Medieval Life and Knights.

5-0 out of 5 stars Filling a need
There are lots of good quotation books for adults but, until now, there were few for children. This book fills that need admirably. The quotations are specifically geared towards children, with full color illustrations and popular subjects such as school, sports, friendship, etc. The section on "How To Use This Book" is clear and concise. The book also includes a cross-referenced subject index and a people index.
Pair this book with What the Dormouse Said by Amy Gash, Who Said That? by Robert Burleigh, and/or Stretch Your Wings by Janet Cheatham Bell to round out your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Open to any page and read!
I "wallpaper" my sixth grade classroom with quotations, so this book was a must-have. You can open to any page and be instantly amazed by the variety and assortment of quotations by famous and not-so famous people. I especially enjoy the quotes by the authors of children's books and their characters. My students race for the book when they have free time, and they sit in groups to read the quotes and enjoy the colorful text and illustrations. The indexes and classification of the quotes are easy to use and cross-referenced. Amazingly, there were many quotes in this book that I had not found in my other books. Every lover of words and language will enjoy this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll want to own this book!
I found this book in the local library. I renewed it once before I decided I had to have it on my shelf. I teach elementary school, and found this book to be a valuable resource. Our class started to read one quote a day and to discuss the deeper meaning of each quote. These exercises help us to develop vocabulary and to discuss social and emotional issues. The 2000 quotes are of impeccable quality and come from a great variety of sources. I was impressed with the number of quotes from historical figures such as presidents, orators, inventors, and authors. There are also a number of quotes from book characters. The quotes are arranged in themes that cover almost anything you can think of....adventure, kindness, equality, etc. I am sure you will enjoy this book long past your first reading! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun book
Geography is a fun subject because it is so visual. This book has fun, brightly colored pictures that illustrate basic geography words. I found this little gem at a library sale years ago and have used it to help prepare my chldren for our homeschool association geography bees. They love this book too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for kids! Adults love it too!
This book is really well done. Though it is targeted for children, this 40-plus year old found it very informative. After searching through the adult catalog at the local library for a book that would explain landforms and earth features and finding nothing, I found this book in the young people's collection. It was a Godsend. I found it so useful, that I am now purchasing it for my personal library.

If you, like me, have never been clear in your own mind about the difference between a hill and a mountain; a mesa and a butte; a brook, creek, or stream; a river, lake or pond; a sea and an ocean; a canyon and a gorge, and on and on, then this book will painlessly de-mystify these terms for you and many more.

Thanks to the authors and publishers of this fine book, I am less dumbfounded by my physical surroundings, and at least know now what I probably should have learned in grade school

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have book!
I'd like to thank Jack Knowlton and Harriett Barton for writing and illustrating "Geography from A to Z."

5-0 out of 5 stars A mini-museum about space exploration in an illustrated book
Since President Bush declared his intention to have the United States go back to the Moon, establish a permanent base, and go to Mars, space exploration is in the news again. When I first started going to school my father was stationed in Florida and we would get out of class to go outside and watch the Mercury flights take off, so I remember when space exploration was an exciting idea and when the entire planet watched the first landing on the moon. But then I also remember when we stopped going to the moon and the only time we really paid attention to space missions was when a shuttle was destroyed.

This volume on "Space Exploration" for the Eyewitness Books series covers the entire history of these efforts, going back to the dreams of space from ancient sky watching to the speculative writings of science fiction. After explaining what is "space," Carole Stott establishes the idea of people from around the world being involved in the exploration of space, symbolized by Apollo 18 docked to Soyuz 19.The historical survey begins with the first rocket scientists, the idea of the reusable rocket, and the space race, with its early space travelers, and the landing of humans on the moon. The next major section talks about how to become an astronaut, what they wear, how they live and work in space.Sections are devoted to the danger and disasters of space exploration, space stations, and the various satellites and probes that have been sent off into space. The final units look at the future in space, how space technology has been used on Earth, and what lies ahead.Of course, that last bit needs to be updated now, but you have to expect new plans would pop up for the 21st century.

As always this is a book where the photographs are so impressive that you often forget there is some text for each of these two-page spreads. However, a lot of the information is to be found in the captions for all those photographs. The end result is a lot of breadth, which sacrifices depth, but that is the same effect you would get if you were at a museum getting to see all of these things in person. Of course, no museum on Earth (or in space) has all of these items, which range from the patch worn by the first Mongolian in space to toys from McDonalds that encourage youth interest in space.Do not be surprised when young readers get excited by seeing how astronauts sleep and drink Coke in space.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is full of information.
"Eyewitness Space Exploration" Tells about space and its many factors. I recommened this book for those who a really in to space (rockets, going to the moon, that kind of thing.)

This book was fine, and tells all the rockets and rocket launches, space shuttles, the landing on the moon and a whole lot more stuff. I would have gave this book 3 and a half stars if I could but since you can't use halfstars on Amazon.com I decided to use 4 stars. ... Read more

Learning some pleases and thank yous is virtually painlesswhen that beloved redheaded Parisian, Madeline, is doing the teaching. JohnBemelmans Marciano, grandson of Madeline creator Ludwig Bemelmans, pens apoliteness how-to book, based on the characters and setting of the originalMadeline. Divided intochapters headed "Hello," "Please and Thank You," "Kindness and Consideration,"etc., the book-in-verse spells out appropriate actions in varying situations:

If you do something you know is wrong
Such as going where you don't belong
Don't make it worse by telling lies;
Say you're sorry and apologize.
Marciano is witty in both word and picture, and young fans of Madeline willcertainly get the message without feeling too much like Miss Clavel is shakingher finger at them. (Ages 4 to 7) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A little gem of a book for a child.
The author has done a wonderful job with the material and subject matter. In the context of the world of Madeline, the lessons are direct and instructive while keeping in the same theme of entertaining a young child in the style of the remarkable Madeline. I have two little girls. The six-year-old is a big Madeline fan, as is her mother, and the other is just seven months. This book was a pleasant surprise for the eldeer child as a reward for a special success. We have included it in her bedtime reading list since, and though she knows the lines, it is a favorite. It also helps that my wife and I now have some examples to draw from for some everyday situations. It doesn't make a child into a "little angel " by itself (that would be another issue altogether). It does instruct by way of examples from a favorite character. Who could doubt Madeline?

My thanks to Mr. John Bemelmans Marciano for writing such a wonderful little gem! I would be happy to purchase another of these works. I think it will make a good gift for our nieces too...

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter now says "merci!"
My daughter, 20 months, received this book for Christmas. She was already a Madeline fan. She loves this book, and frequently says "Meeshee" (Merci) -- then she will tell me that is "finch!" (French). The rhymes are cute, the illustrations true in style to the original Madeline, and I am glad to see a humorous, fun book about manners for girls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Madeline makes a welcome return
...

Marciano's Madeline Says Merci: The Always-Be-Polite Book is a welcome addition to the Madeline library. Its similarity to Bemelman's drawing and rhyming styles is almost uncanny, which makes for a breezy and charming read.

Admittedly, the subject matter--the many ways in which a child can be polite and express proper gratitude--often carries the tone of a politically correct lecture. But the message goes down easily when delivered by the "bad-hat" boy next door, Madeline's faithful dog, or Madeline herself. If you're unfamiliar with this children's-book character, this book is a worthy introduction--although the earlier books will show just how much Madeline doesn't follow her own rules of etiquette.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Manners Made Fun.....
"The pages that follow offer advice/On how to be polite and nice./As you read, please keep in mind/It all comes down to being kind./Don't forget to think of others-/Parents, pets, and little brothers..." John Bemelmans Marciano, follows in his grandfather, Ludwig Bemelmans' footsteps with this new and inventive picture book, Madeline Says Merci. His clever and humorous, rhyming text gives youngsters basic lessons in kindness and consideration, from saying please and thank you, sharing and taking turns, cleaning up, and apologizing, to writing thank you notes, learning how to properly say hello and goodbye, and much, much more. His familiar and charming illustrations add to the fun, and bring Miss Clavel, Pepito, and the rest of the little girls onto the scene to help Madeline explain and demonstrate good manners. Perfect for children 3-7, this "always be polite book" is a witty and creative must for Madeline fans everywhere, and is a wonderful addition to all home bookshelves. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "Your Harvard Golf Cap Certainly Suits A Man Of My Kidney"
The 786 - page reprint of the 1897 Sears, Roebuck & Co. Catalogue is a priceless piece of Americana. Profusely illustrated, readers will enjoy studying the surprisingly enormous range of consumer goods then available, most of which are obsolete or little used in American life today. From the $4.90 'Cast Iron Pig Trough' to the $3.00 'Cleveland Ball Bearing Wringer,' from the $1.75 'Magic Lantern Slide Projector for Juveniles' to the $3.35 'Velocipedes' bicycle and the $2.00, mohair-covered 'Ear Trumpet,' readers will turn the pages in delighted awe. Those interested in fashion and costuming will find the extensive pages on clothing remarkable. The average description for most items tallies at about 100 words, most of which are superfluous but fun to read.

There are 55 very detailed pages on clothing, hats, and accessories for men and boys, including $6.95 'Cashmere Suits,' $9.90 'Blue Flannel Grand Army Of The Republic Suits,' and 'Brownie Suits,' 'Fancy Sailor Suits,' and 'Children's Kilt Suits.' These sections are bolstered by idealized figures of mustached men strolling by the seaside in striped suits and straw boaters, pipe - smoking deep thinkers poised in velvet smoking jackets, and bashful lads posing in knee britches.

An equal number of pages are devoted to clothing, shoes, hats, and other accessories for women and girls, including 'Dr. Warner's Abdominal Corset' made with "extension steels, side lacings, and elastic gores on each side," girl's "reefer jackets," the $2.95 'Rich's Patent "Julie Marlowe" Lace Boot,' and 2 pages of heavily - festooned women's hats with names like 'the Leader,' 'the Susanne,' 'the Evangeline,' and 'the Bon Ton.' Presciently, many of the illustrations of women look remarkably like the matronly Mary Astor in the 1941 classic 'Meet Me In St. Louis.'

Especially interesting and comical are the items listed under 'Drug Department.' Here are found 'Injection No. 7,' which "is a reliable cure for all troubles of the urinary organs...no matter how severe the case,' and 'Dr. Rose's Obesity Powders' which explains that "too much fat is a disease and a great annoyance to those afflicted. . .it produces fatty degeneration of the heart, and sudden death results," and 'Beef, Iron, and Wine' nutritive, which, at $2.50 a gallon, was apparently very popular, "something no family should be without...used for extreme exhaustion caused by brain fatigue, eruptions, scrofula, and...depraved conditions of the blood."

There are 'vegetable cures' for 'female weakness' and 'fig laxatives,' 'Mexican Headache Cures' and 'Indian Cough Syrups,' 'microbe killers,' and "perfectly harmless" 'arsenic complexion wafers' which produce "pellucid clearness of complexion." "Reliable Worm Syrup and Worm Cakes" cure "the disease so fatal to children" and comes in "convenient form for children to take, which they readily do, thinking it is candy." 'Dr. Chaise's Nerve And Brain Pills' is a cure for those with "overworked sexual excesses."

Special mention should be given to the Sears, Roebuck & Co.'s own $0.75 brand 'Reliable Cure For the Opium And Morphia Habit,' which will "completely destroy that terrible craving for morphine . . .and free those victims from their terrible bondage." The 'Princess Bust Developer' and 'Princess Bust Cream Food' can be purchased separately or together for $1.46. Prepared by "an eminent French chemist," the bust cream promises a "plump, full, rounded bosom," while the bust developer, which comes in both 4 and 5 inch sizes, looks like a toilet plunger and is perfect "if nature has not favored you." Another ad educates potential women buyers by stating that "no worse affliction can befall a woman's face than to see a horrible growth of coarse hairs springing out like bristles," making her "disfiguring to behold." Oddly, 'Strangle Food' for cockroaches and 'Rat Killer - The Great Vermin Destroyer' are included among health and beauty products for the family.

Despite the exaggerated and misleading claims, this volume is overwhelmingly wholesome in nature, and provides an educational glimpse into the lives, consumer habits, social mores, and advertising methods of Americans of the era. Throughout, there are extended pages devoted to excerpts from grateful consumer letters with headings like "Proud Of The Buggy," "Perfectly Satisfied With The Revolver," "Everybody Says The Watch Is A Dandy," and "I Do Not Know A More Fair Or Honorable Firm." These pages are one of the catalogue's few disappointments, since the 'letters' are suspiciously uniform in tone, phrasing, and praise.

Other sections include 'Vehicle, Harness, and Saddlery,' 'Crockery And Glassware,' 'Watch And Jewelry,' 'Musical Goods,' 'Furniture,' 'Books And Stationary,' and 'Builder's Hardware And Material.'

4-0 out of 5 stars A blast from the past.
The quality if the reproduction is great, and the nostalgia of reading a catalog that my great-grandparents might have seen is cool.

(I bought this book as a resource for Old West roleplaying games, and it suits that application very well.)

4-0 out of 5 stars A Cornucopia for Historians
You'll find *everything* in this reprint, from buggies and bicycles to books to groceries. (You'll need to mentally adjust the prices, since Sears was at that time strictly a mail-order wholesale house, and like the e-merchants of today could drastically undercut the traditional retailers: I've found that adding 50-100% to their list, unless they give another one in the adcopy, will give you a good idea of what "brick-and-mortar" merchants would have charged for the same item.) A splendid resource for anyone interested in the minutinae of everyday late-19th-Century life. If they'd only included toys, it would be perfect! The small print is a bit hard on the eyes and the illustrations sometimes rather dark, but the book as a whole is well worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars An interesting slice of life from Victorian America
This is a catalogue full of photos and descriptions of old things. I enjoyed perusing it just because I love old things.

The print quality is marginal though, but legible. Words and photos look a bit grainy.

Prices, stock, descriptions, wild exaggerations and boasts of products all paint an interesting picture of life at the turn of the century.

I'm an old house lover and I found this book as an intriguing bit of memorabilia about the way things once were in this country.

The section on women's clothing is wild. Almost unimagineable to realize what women did to themselves in the name of fashion.

A good resource and conversation starter. Old folks can't get enough of it. In fact, it does make a great Christmas present for the over 60 crowd.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must have for anyone needing to know prices from the 1890s
This book is absolutely essential for anyone doing research on the late 1890s, as it lists prices of popular goods and gives a lot of input into what was available. For any Game-Masters(if you don't know what a Game-Master is, don't ask...) running a Wild West game, it is a must! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars True Love Waits
I give "True Love Waits" presentations around the country and SexSmart, by Susan Browning Pogany is the sole book I recommend to all teenagers and parents. It is the most accurate and readable abstinence resource I have ever encountered. IF I WERE MADE OF MONEY, THIS BOOK WOULD BE IN THE HANDS OF EVERY TEENAGER IN AMERICA!! Please get it for those you love.

Thank you, Susan!

1-0 out of 5 stars disturbing propaganda
I can't honestly offer a fair review of this book, since I've only carefully read the parts that Amazon.com makes available: back cover, full table of contents, short 6-page excerpt from the beginning of the book, other people's reviews. I've read enough, however, to get the message: the author claims that teen sex is utterly dangerous and unfulfilling, and always leads to unwanted pregnancy, STDs, broken relationships, personal insecurity, etc. She implies that teenagers only have sex out of peer pressure, or a desire to be loved, or some foolish immature notion of what "love" is. She never considers the possibility that teenage sex might be tender, satisfying, safely managed, thoughtfully initiated within a deeply intimate and monogamous relationship, and in the end, not such a big deal to begin with. I'm guessing she also doesn't provide any advice on how to have sex in the safest and best way possible if one has indeed decided to become sexually active (as many, many other books directed towards teenagers do). As a result I find Pogany's book unfounded, annoying, destructive, and propagandistic. It's a completely one-sided view of things, written to put forth pseudo-scientific arguments against some socially undesirable behavior. Her "sound bite" approach (in which she doesn't write continuous prose, but instead provides short, separate little paragraphs on various reasons not to have sex) is not very persuasive, because it treats her pronouncements superficially and leaves them unsupported. I think this book is a good example of how abstinence programming merely serves to scare teenagers: sex is bad, sex is unhealthy, sex leaves you downhearted and regretful, sex should be saved for committed marriages and partnerships. Pity the adults in America who promote this culture don't also live by it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book I thought I'd have to write myself
Susan Browning Pogany has written a book I really thought about writing myself. As the mother of a 13 year old daughter, I've stayed up late into the night thinking of all the things I will need to tell my daughter, and should probably write out. How boys think of sex differently than girls. How teens are being manipulated by the media through a bombardment of sexual images via magazines, movies, television, the internet and music - for no other reason than to draw them in as consumers. How teens can fall prey to peer pressure when they loose track of what is important to them. These are only a few of the points Susan Browning Pogany offers for teens to consider in "SexSmart".

Too many parents I've spoken to about teen sex have the "Hey, they're going to have sex anyway. What are you gonna do?" attitude, then proceed to rent motel rooms for their kids' proms and stock their medicine cabinets with condoms. They seem to feel it is the easier route to take. I believe in giving my child ALL of the facts, as are in "SexSmart".

I only wish I could have read this book when I was a teenager. I wouldn't have been nearly as confused, nor bought into all of the mixed messages. I would love to see this book in high school sex-ed courses. Too often the kids are given the physiological facts, without the emotional information and downfalls of sex too soon, which are addressed in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sex Smart
The book I read was interseting. Sex Smart by Susan Browning Pogany wrote one of the most informing books for teens Ihave ever read. The book specifies about the relation of sex and how to exclude it until a mature age. You can read about teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, date rape, condom use, etc. I highly recommend this book for teens who are curious about sex.

5-0 out of 5 stars Texas teen: I LOVED THIS BOOK!
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I am a 17 yr. old girl. Even though I am not a virgin anymore this book made me realize that I am taking some pretty big risks when having sex and therefore I have made my New Year's resolution to abstain until I am older and have a stable life. I made a mistake and I rushed into sex thinking I was missing out or it was gonna be something beautiful when in fact it wasn't. I really appreciated this book. I don't think I could have found anything to have made me change my mind about the way I was doing sleeping around, but this book inspired me to see that there is nothing wrong with abstaining and with having self-respect and waiting on sex. That's how I see it now. At first I was like it's all BS but then as I kept reading more, I saw that the book was right and I realized that the only reason I had sex was because I felt pressured. Now I know that it doesn't matter what they think or what a guy wants. It's about what hurts me and what doesn't. Hey, if all the other ones are doing it, then let them go for it but I will just stick to my education from now on.

At first I was afraid of people at my school seeing me read this book so I would hide it. Then I decided I would show it to my friends so that they would think about the way they are living their lives and having sex at such a young age. It is funny, too, because I checked this book out at my school library and my friends thought I had probably gotten it somewhere else. When they saw the school stamp, they were surprised. I really appreciate that the author wrote this book. It has made a difference in my life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So much stuff!
This book gives lots of fascinating information about the weapons and tactics pirates used. The information is divided into small fact capsules with illustrations, which keeps it from ever being boring or overwhelming. And there's so much on a page that the book's worth re-reading several times, in case of something missed or forgotten. A gotta-have for the piratically-minded!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
This is a very good book with lots of facts about anything that has to do with piracy. If you are inturested in pirates, get it. It is well worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of "Pirate"
While this series is generally aimed at readers of a younger age, these magnificently illustrated books are fascinating for adults as well. "Pirate" is no exception. It is a gloriously readable book with profuse illustrations covering the history of piracy from ancient Greece to the 1800's. Dozens of captioned pictures and paragraphs of text make this a great book for browsing through when you just don't feel like serious reading. The book itself is nothing like a children's book. They could market this as an adult book without changing a thing ... Read more
