4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but incomplete...
My 3 year old wanted to know how food gets to the stomach and beyond (of course). This book serves to explain how food is digested, how 1/2 of the skeleton looks (no feet, mom), and how a baby grows in the mother...but it misses muscles, circulatory system, nervous system and isn't very detailed when it does discuss the five senses. The main attraction of this book is the fascinating paper flash light that seems to illuminate the very good illustrations on transparencies. It is a winner - we just wish it covered more and answered more questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and innovative!
The price is a little steep-- the book is child-sized, meaning it's about seven square inches big-- but boy does it make up for its size in presentation! The flip-transparencies are ingenious, as well as the method for viewing it. My 5 1/2 year old son couldn't put it down. Its language is clear but not dumbed-down. There may be a few vocabulary words that the younger readers will ask about. But honestly, this is a GREAT introduction to human anatomy for this age group-- by far the best one I've seen. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great place to start
I have an older version of this book. The latest has added a section on shared currency. The cover on the older version has more exotic coins such as heart cutouts. However any version of this book shows a lot of colorful pictures of script and coin. There are simple descriptions of the making of and measuring of money. If you are a coin collector the descriptions help enhance the collection by telling what the symbols represent on the coin as well as some tog the history. My only disappointment was the lack of information on porcelain notgeld. This makes you wonder what else may be missing. Well you can not stuff everything in to 64 pages with pictures.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Educational Book About Money!!!
This book is the best book for young children to actually visually see what money does and what it looks like in different countries. Very good educational book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Educationl Text
I'm a teacher and I find the Eyewitness books highly educational. I like the way the concepts are presented in a form without backgrounds. This gives clear facts to the reader without over taxing the attention span. The books are highly informative, presenting difficult concepts in comprehendable chunks that stimulate interest. I have almost the whole collection for my own children and they LOVE them!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great photos, interesting book
DK eyewitness books are some of the greatest non-fiction books around. The distinctive white background and high-quality photography gives this book an edge over any other nonfiction picture book. And -- these pictures are real! They're beautiful photos of all things related to money, accompanied by informative captions and text.

This book isn't the strongest in the series, but it is interesting, and the museum-quality pictures will have the reader involved to the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Museum-like Comprehensive Overview

3-0 out of 5 stars useful?
This book has a one chapter from different stories. so it really doesnt' give you 101 stories, it is one chapter from a story. so you are left not knowing what happens next. which I guess woudl be good to find out your children's interests.. maybe good library book but not to buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars It will make you read 101 books!
This book is great for those people who are trying to find a good book to read. There are chapters from some of the most-loved classic novels like Little Women. Some of the tales are short stories like the Elephant's Child. This book made me read most of the 101 classics. It is very good as a gift, also. This book is worth all your monery!

5-0 out of 5 stars fabulous!
A wonderful selection of chapters from great books for kids! Sort of like the "bathroom books" series for kids, because it offers a glimpse of each story. I also love the wide range of stories, so as a browsing selection it is great...makes a wonderful choice for bedtime reading, classroom booktalks, or group reading ... Read more

The continent of Australia is home to an extraordinary variety of wildlife, and this captivating book highlights many of them.

Tasmanian devils, koalas, and echidnas make their homes in leafy forests and woodlands. Other animals, such as kangaroos and wombats, inhabit dry grasslands. Still more species, like the bilbies, live in the hot desert, while along the coast fairy penguins parade to their burrows in the sand.

Through award-winning author Caroline Arnold's clearly written text, young readers will discover how each animal--from dingo to glider, quoll to platypus--is able to adapt to its own special environment in the wild.

"Australian Animals," by Caroline Arnold, is a good introduction to the creatures of Australia. Directed towards younger readers, the book combines a simple text with plentiful full-color photographs. Animals described include koalas, bilbies, Tasmanian devils, and many others.

The book contains many memorable images: a baby wallaby peeking out from the safety of his mother's pouch, a platypus swimming underwater, a thorny devil lizard trekking across the red sand, fairy penguins congregating by the seashore, and more. Overall, a brief but enjoyable book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars beautifully presented photos and drawings
The DK series of eyewitness books are all fabulous, but this has to be my favorite. Dinosaurs are always appealing to children and adults and this book is no disappointment. Superb studio-quality, well lit photographs give you close-up shots of teeth and bones so real, you'll feel like they're right there for you to touch and pick up.

Theories on how dinosaurs really looked on the outside and how they walked are explored. Every caption has a tidbit of information that is interesting to anyone who reads it. A book like this will keep a child of any reading age occupied for no less than an hour on a road trip... and it will constantly be read over and over again... it's just intriguing and beautifully presented.

It gives a perfect understanding of the study and also art of Paleontology. 2-0 out of 5 stars Too detailed on drug use and terms
I got this book for my 7 year old daughter who loves reading the Hardy Boys mysteries. The book was interesting, but what was disturbing to me was the detailed chapter on drug use and terminology. I understand that such knowledge is necessary for detectives, but the target audience seems a little young to know all the words for LSD and the slang for multiple drug terms. I thought my daughter wasn't ready for what was discussed in this book. I wish there was a chapter heading listing included in the summary of this book so I would have known what was included. I returned the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hardy Boys
I already own this, & I like it. It very useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book is great.
This book is great for any kids who want to be detectives. It is one of the greatest books I ever read.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting "how-to" detective manual
Well, they published a series of bland stories with bland characters and cliched plots, might as well bank on that with a book that tells you how to be that bland and predictable. Actually, The Hardy Boys Detective Handbook is an interesting read and if you ever wanted an up-to-date manual on how criminal investigations were conducted 30 years ago then this is the book for you. For nostalgia freaks this book will be a bonanza of delight and all those who are in close proximity when they have this book in their possession may be in for a contact high. Fans of the series will definitely enjoy this one as Frank W. Dixon, a pseudonymn for about a thousand ghostwriters, and a retired FBI agent (I forget his name) give you tips on how to be just like those nice, clean cut boys who somehow manage to get involved in criminal investigations. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Thank You Book for Kids
A great big THANK YOU to Ali Spizman for taking the time to remind all of us the importance of saying "Thank you". Being an elementary school librarian, I originally bought this book as a reference for my students. I soon found, however, that it was a great inspiration to me personally. Ali includes a tremendous variety of clever ways to make the often dull task of writing thank-you notes into an exciting exercise in creativity. This book should be required reading for all ages!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must for families!
As a mom of two young boys, I probably say thank you and remind someone else to say it about 50 times a day. It was so refreshing to read the words of a young woman who obviously knows the true meaning of the word and took the time to share her beautiful thoughts with others. It's also a fun read for parents and kids, filled with great ideas and a personal touch because the author includes letters she wrote to thank her friends, teachers, and even famous people (who were gracious enough to write back). After a long day of balancing work and family, this book really made my evening and is one I know we'll keep and use forever! I highly recommend it to other parents too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you Ali!
This is a book that should be on the bookshelf of every child's room! After seeing this book, your child will be thanking everyone. The book has creative and original ideas that will turn an ordinary thank you note into a memorable treat. The suggestions and sample letters will help your child write thank you letters with ease. Not only will your child enjoy reading it, they will continue to use it in the future as well. Both children and parents should be thanking the author for her brilliant work!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book for Encouraging Kids to Do the Right Thing
Sometimes it is so difficult to help your kids thank people when they receive a gift or a favor. This book actually does it for you. Inside this little book are terrific ways to let your child see that thanking others can be fun and worthwhile. Thanks to Ali Spizman, my child is now a pro. We've even "borrowed" a few of her lines for our own thank you's. A really worthwhile and creative book to have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank You For This Incredible Book!
Anyone whose like me and has worked with kids before will appreciate this book! The Thank You Book for Kids is definitely, without a doubt, the best resource on the planet when it comes to thoughtfulness and saying thank you! Whether your child has to write a thank you note or is just at a loss for words, there is something for everyone to gain from The Thank You Book. I loved how the book covered so many different areas of thanks-from designing your own thank you notes, to the steps of writing a super thank you note, to creative closings, to fantastic example letters- each page is a new idea. Letters from famous people, asking if rock stars say thank you- the entire book is full of fun ways to say thank you that I had never imagined before! It is a must have for all children and will have friends, teachers, parents, and grandparents all saying Thank You Ali Spizman! ... Read more

This book was really helpful. It tells you games you can play with kids and even things to say to kids when they arebeing bad. It tells you how to be organized and gives you some tips on keeping the child calm. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!
This is a really great handbook with a lot of info. There are sections in the book on deciding whether or not you're ready, mealtime, bedtime, when kids get scared, games and activities to play with the kids, changing diapers, when kids say, "But my mom lets me!", and first-aid and safety tips. There are even business and info cards that you can punch out. I recommend this book with a good first-aid book and, of course, a babysitting course!

I bought this book with a gift certificate. Half of the information was helpful. Common questions that I had hoped to be anwsered, like how to feed an infant, how to bathe small children, and how to get a baby to fall asleep, (where just a few examples)where not anwsered.

4-0 out of 5 stars Keep the Age in Mind
This is a well written beginning babysitters guide. My problem with it is that it is written for 9-12 year olds and many states require that babysitters be 13 years old and have a babysitting class. If you aren't sure about your state's requirements (or didn't realize they existed), call your local department of Family and Children's Services and ask them the home-alone and babysitting age requirements.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Babysiters Guide EVER!
I just got certified as a babysitter and I thought I'd read some more about it! I got this book and it covered more than the class did! I covers everything you need to know! I like how it has game recomendations for different ages! This book rocks! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE FOR BABYSITTERS
I bought one for my kids' sitter and she loved it. I wanted to make sure she knew what to do in case of an emergency and be equipped for the job. Everything is included in this guidebook. Its a must-have!

I suggest all parents get one for their child care worker or sitter. It has lots of information and things to do with the kids, instead of parking them in front of the television.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Babysitter Handbook On The Market!!!
I have read just about every babysitting manual on the market and this is the best one! I think this is a must for every babysitter. One of the things in this book I really liked was the babysitter's backpack. None of the other books I've read have a list of cool stuff to bring on a job, like balloons, Bible, videos, art supplies, and more! I also really like all the awesome recipes. The "First Fruits Ices" and "Baby Jesus Salad" were terrific! And I loved the Bible themes which included songs and games to go along with the Bible story. It is a great book and all babysitters must read it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars teens on trial review
Right off the bat I want to notify you that this is a book about law and trial. Now, the pros and cons of this book, one of the pros of this book is the fact that it was non-fiction. It didn't tell a fake story, it was all real. Something else positive about this book is that you learn something about the law each case.
Some cons of the book are the number of pages. It is a short book. Another problem I had was the time spent writing about each case. I feel the author could have elaborated on the case more. For example, the author could have showed the evidence from the case and gave the defending argument, instead of only giving the prosecutions argument.
Overall the good and bad, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the law and non-fiction books that are short and to the point.
So go out to the library and check out "Teens on Trial."

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for high school law teachers!
As a high school law teacher, I found this book a great resource for student discussions. The court cases are written in easy to understand "kid" language. Both sides are presented clearly and fairly. Additional related discussion questions are presented with each case as well as possible answers. My students found the court cases relevant and interesting. At the end of each section, additional court cases are listed to review. It's a great book for teenagers! ... Read more
