2-0 out of 5 stars I want my money back
My son finished the first grade book within two months, and he wanted to do more math homework. So I bought this book and third grade book for him. To my surprise, I found that about 1/3 of the material are copies from the 1st grader book, and another 1/3 of pages are copies from the 3rd grader book. We both were very disappointed. (...)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
My daughter is ahead of her class and needed to be challenged, by page 7 we found this book definitely a useful learning tool. It does NOT review 1st grade. I find it frustrating to purchase an age level book and have half of it be just stuff they have already covered. This IS NOT the case. Would definitely be a great book for home schooled children and look forward to purchasing the next levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars good math review book
I used this book to review second grade over the summer after finding my daughter had large gaps in her math education. My daughter loved placing the stars included in the workbookon each completed page. The math problem pages kept her interested because of how the problems were related to one another. For instance, on one line there were several ways of getting to the number 7 imbedded in two digit calculations. The book covers the major areas of math education.

5-0 out of 5 stars Introducing Math to 7-8 year olds
The Math Made Easy series is a complete home-study program to help your child practice the essential math skills they need in each grade. This workbook will provide practice for all the major topics for Grade 2 with an emphasis on the addition and subtraction of larger numbers.

You will also find a review of Grade 1 topics and a preview of the topics in the Grade 3 workbook. This is when they introduce Times Tables Practice.

A progress chart can be found at the start of the book and includes stars you can stick in the correct box that corresponds with the completed lessons.

The "Answer Section with Parents' Notes provides answers to all the activities in the book. These pages enable you to mark your children's work. There is a visual of each page and notes to help you explain the common errors and problems. Where appropriate, they indicate the type of practice needed to ensure that your children understand where and how they have made errors.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good review for standardized tests, and skill evaluation
We got this to supplement our daughter's Math studies, and it is very colorful and fun! It contains gold stars for every lesson completed, and when you're done, you have a chart full of stars to keep! A great help for parents working with their kids during a big year for six and seven year olds! The price is great and the quality is typical of DK...top-notch. You would pay closer to twenty dollars for something like this in a "teacher" store.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for knowing the breadth of 1st grade math
I'm a homeschooling Dad who is the teacher for the first hour the day with my son, a first grader. For a part of that hour I spend with my son, I wanted to use a math workbook that would provide a comprehensive overview of the material a first grade student is expected to master by year-end. Quite randomly, I chose the Math Made Easy series workbook. I'm delighted I made that selection!

The Math Made Easy provides an incremental, comprehensive approach to teaching math. There are 156 pages -- lessons, if you will -- to work on. Early on, your student learns how to tackle simple math problems, and then those concepts are developed into more complex problems in later lessons. This is an excellent way of learning -- incrementally and progressively. So, rather than learning everything there is to know about reading an analog and digital clock for 10 straight lessons, the easiest concepts of all math concepts are presented early in the workbook, and then those same concepts are presented in more challenging formats (to a first grader, anyway) later in the workbook. That requires the student to recall the earlier learning that was done in the workbook, in order to tackle the more challenging problems that are presented later on. So, for instance, time-telling lessons appear on pages 29, 86, 87, 88, and 116.

My son and I generally complete 2 pages in about 20 minutes. Sometimes we do 3 pages, sometimes only 1 page. We started using this workbook in late September, and we'll likely finish our workbook by February -- a complete first grade math education in about 4-5 months!

Although we use the workbook for 20 minutes a day, we often spend more time -- up to 30 minutes more a day -- taking a concept presented in the book and developing it more fully on our own. What's nice, though, is if the lesson for the day is on, say, graphing, I can easily come up with ideas for graphing beyond the few problems presented on one page in the workbook.

Put another way, the goal for using this workbook isn't to see how quickly you can finish it, rather, it's how well can your student master the material in the workbook. The workbook provides the breadth of what a first grader should know, but you'll need to add depth beyond the workbook if you want your student to fully master the material.

The only things I don't like about the workbook is that it is not full-color inside (black and white or grayscale); too often the lessons require the student to draw pictures (it takes a first grader too long to draw them) or hard-to-draw shapes like stars; and sometimes the student is expected to write-out numbers, which is a problem if your student doesn't yet know how to read or write.

In contrast, what I like is the comprehensive nature of the book, the interesting presentation of some of the material (the less-than and greater-than symbols < > are fashioned into crocodile heads that always eat the larger number!), the star-sticker reward system for completing a workbook page, and that early lesson topics are revisited in more challenging formats in later pages of the workbook.

In a word -- I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Introducing Math to 6-7 year olds
This is the second book in the "Math Made Easy" series. It will help to prepare your child for standardized tests and supports National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards.

Not only will the lessons build confidence, all the parental notes and answers are included. You can easily tear those sections out of the back of the book. In the Answer Section with Parent's Notes, you will find all the answers to all the activities in the book. These pages will enable you to mark your children's work or they can be used by your children if they prefer to do their own marking.

The notes for each page will help to correct common errors and problems and will indicate the type of practice needed to ensure your children have an understanding of where and how they made mistakes.

This workbook will provide practice for all the major topics for Grade 1 with emphasis on addition and subtraction concepts. There is also a review of Kindergarten topics and a preview of Grade 2 topics.

Features a progress chart complete with stars so you can stick in a star when the corresponding lesson has been completed.

    2-0 out of 5 stars Who's Curriculum?
This has many "worksheets," no explanations, no really interesting problems, and did not match our fifth-grade curriculum. It doesn't even match our fourth-grade curriculum--way too basic! It's just drill, drill, drill. At least it offers good practice for basics that many fifth graders already have nailed. I appreciate its easy-to read design.

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be better
My 10 year old son loves this book! He's already completed more than 1/3 of the book and it's only September 19.

I like the outline, plenty of review exercises (to increase a sense of mastery) and it appears to cover enough topics to match this year's curriculum. I've already ordered the 3rd grade version for his younger brother.

5-0 out of 5 stars Math Made Easy: Fifth Grade Workbook
This book is full of great additional practice related to our state math standards. For children who are struggling with Everyday Math and need more paractice in multiple formats, this series is "the cat's meow." Children will love the star reinforcement stickers and the progress chart which help them to track their skills. Parents and teachers will love the answer key in the rear where you can not only check work but make a record of specific errors on minatures of the actual worksheets to guide later review and practice once the worksheets have been completed or sent home. These books are a great supplemental tool. I have actually purchased several different levels and find them all well thought out and highly useful for grade appropriate math skills remediation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Introducing math to 10-11 year olds
The last book in the Math Made Easy series of workbooks. Each workbook matches the math curriculum so your child will reach their full potential on the all-important standardized tests. In fact, these books have been compiled and tested by a team of math experts to increase your child's confidence, enjoyment and success.

You will find practice pages for all the major topics covered in Grade 5. There is a definite emphasis on addition and subtraction of fractions and decimals. There is a review of Grade 4 topics and plenty of Times Tables practice. There is also a Progress Chart with gold stars to record achievement.

At the back of the book the "Answer Section with Parents' Notes" provides answers to all the activities in the book. The notes for each page also help to explain common problems and solutions are given to ensure that your child understands how and why they made errors.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good summer review
This workbook was an excellent review of all topics covered in 4th grade math with an easy to manage number of problems per page and excellent examples. The 5th grade book covers much of the same material, so I wouldn't buy both

3-0 out of 5 stars Not really fourth grade level in my school district
This is a nice math workbook, however, it's not really equivalent to what fourth graders are doing in my school district. I bought this hoping to give my daughter a head-start for fourth grade, but 90% of it is a review of what she has learned in the third grade.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workbook!
I am homeschooling my daughter and this is a great math workbook. She finds the lessons enjoyable. It covers all areas of 4th grade math. It is not enough to be used alone, but a wonderful addition for extra practice in all areas. Your child will love this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensible Resource For Those Dealing with AD(H)D Student
This book is an invaluable aide for parents, educators, and professionals dealing with the challenges faced by AD(H)D students in school. It is a book that can be given directly to students as well. Written in a clear, visually appealing format, it presents worksheets and quick exercises that guide the late grade school, middle school or high school student to an understanding of how this disorder affects their ability to learn. It provides information such as how to choose and adopt various study techniques that will help children with AD(H)D become successful students. It coaches students in using active study techniques to remember what they read, or to develop written reports. Students are not resistant to using the concepts because of how they are presented and is a book that has application to non ADHD students as well. I highly recommend this workbook and have found it much more much more useful that the "Putting on the Brakes" book by the same authors. Of all the self help books I have lent out to people, this is one that people use so much they forget to return it! I just keep buying more copies because I don't want to be without the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars It makes sense to my students!
"Putting on the Break" has helped several of my students/clients understand what is really happening when they can not stop. One student's mom said, "This is the first time I see Laura interested in a book, any book. She explained why she has trouble paying attention like a pro. Thanks." The book gives the children a perspective they can relate to. Adults can be too wordy, the books helps them "see" and "feel" about ADHD. Thanks for making the book available in Spanish. We need more for the Spanish- speaking population. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars learning how to learn
The book helped me really to learn and study. I get better grades. I like to learn now. Learning is now fun for me. My mom is reading the book. She loves it and it helps her. I took the book to school for show and tell. My teacher likes it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The first book in education
This is the first piece of "curriculum" I teach my children once they know how to read. I don't know what I would have done without this book!

Ever get to the bottom of the page and can't recall what you just read? Or do your eyes ever start to hurt when studying? Ever get confused about something you're trying to learn?

Does your child ever experience these problems in his or her schooling?

The causes of these problems may not be what you expect - and the solution for each situation is so simple and effective!

This book has been so helpful to me in teaching my children, that I credit it with the fact that my son (who is 9) can read anything he wants. Currently he is reading Where the Red Fern Grows, which is generally read by teenagers. My 8 year old is reading Little House on the Prairie and she, too, has had great success in applying the techniques set forth in Learning How to Learn in her own study.

If you only purchase one book for your child's education, let it be this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learning how to learn
There is nothing that is more important to any body's survival than to be able to learn. This ability is not only important for our kids but for anyone of us, if only to keep up with current technology. This technology will get you to be able to eradicate the barriers that exist between you and the ability to study. I have recovered the ability to study through this technology and I am extremely grateful to L Ron Hubbard for this. It is very much worth the investment!

5-0 out of 5 stars A vital tool for anyone!
All of us went through schooling. Most of us have some sort of degree, diploma, or the sort. But how many people come out of high school, college even university as competent as they should be in the subjects they just studied? Not many. The main problem is that most people don't know HOW to study so that they will actually understand, and thefore remember and learn for real the things they are studying. This book teaches exactly how to do that. I got though this book when I was a little girl, then I reviewed it later on when I was starting high school, and I am so thankful for having had this technology made available to me! I got through my studies without problems and with great success, thanks to knowing the data in this book. While my schoolmates tried the various "learn by heart" and "listen to it while you are sleeping" techniques to get through tough chapters, it only took me a distraction-free environment, a good dictionary and a few little objects (nothing specific, just little things found around the house). How easy is that? Very easy! And how good are the results you'll get? VERY GOOD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Simple and Effective
As a tutor for the last 8 years, I'd be lost without this book in my arsenal against illiteracy. Amazon does this book right by displaying this with other homeschooling textbooks. Despite the age range, I've found this book to be a good start for anyone having difficulties with reading and writing. Without a doubt, and with no hesitation I can honestly recommend this book to everyone and anyone...a full five stars! ... Read more

This book, though it is suggested reading for 4th to 6th graders, was helpful to me. Not only am I an adult, I am in the process of getting certified to teach high school social studies. It provided me the essentials that I must cover for any class (other than at the college level). The page layout is excellent; the variety in print type and color as well as maps and pictures made it a"fun" reading and learning experience. I highly recommend it for students, parents and social studies teachers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Math Made Easy Kindergarten Workbook
My 5 year old daughter loved this book. It kindled a real interest in learning. She found that being able to stick a gold star on the progress chart for each completed page gave her a great sense of achievment. I felt the workbook gave an excellent introduction to all mathematic principals in a varied and child friendly manner. The book progresses gradually, reinforcing the all the skills and math concepts that 5-6 year olds should be familiar with. We were so impressed that we bought the next book in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!!
This is a great book. It really does make math easy! It's worth the price. I got this for my children and it's a great math book. It is very easy for children to follow and learn. It came with gold star stickers my children love to get on their papers. This is a workbook for children. It has parental or teachers instructions page by page in the back of the book. The book starts with the number 1. It has pictures asking the child how many of the objects are their, at the bottom of the page it has "copy the pattern". Then they write the word One, match the number one with how many objects their are in a group, Then it proceeds on to the number 2 - 10. Then the book goes through various activities such as connect the dots using the numbers 1-10. The numbers 11 & 12 are on one workbook page, 13&14 and so on to 19 & 20. Then it goes to can you remember, More than activities, add one more, add 2 more, take 1 away etc teaching simple adding and subtraction. The book reviews shapes, thick and thin lines, tall, short, color, inside & outside, front and behind, beside, between, the same, different, sorting, find the missing numbers etc. One suggestion is to make copies for later lessons.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Introduction to Math for 5-6 year olds
Kids are always looking for something fun to do, so if your child likes to color, they can learn all about numbers and shapes while being artistic.

Each page is well organized with colorful borders and black-and-white "coloring book type" pictures. The focus is on preparation for a more formal study of math.

This is a complete home-study program to encourage children to practice the essential math skills they are learning at school. The workbooks were compiled and tested by math experts and are designed to increase your child's success at school.

In the front of the book you will find a Progress Chart and a page of stars. Once your child has completed each page, you stick a star in the box that corresponds with the lesson. The workbook is designed to help your child explore the world of numbers in a fun and enjoyable way. There are connect the dots games, Can you remember? challenges and counting games.

    The Content:

Names of the numbers 1-10 and 11-20

Sequence, or order of the numbers.
Number values. Understanding the quantity that each number represents and that, for example, 5 is always 5. It may be 5 big buses in a row or 5 small
peas in a circle, but it is still 5!
That when counting, the last number names the set. Many children count the quantity accurately 1, 2, 3, 4, but in response to "how many?" they often say
    the wrong number.
    How to recognize written numbers.
    How to write numbers.
How to recognize a number when it is written in words, and how to write it.
The concepts of more than and less than, initially by looking and then by counting.
Adding numbers together, language involved in the addition process, symbols for addition and subtraction.
    Shapes and color
    Measurement
Positional language - In front, behind, inside, outside, between, beside, above, etc.
Shapes, objects and patterns, identifying matching items, sorting things into
sets, adding to sets, recognizing patterns and putting events in a sequential order.

32 pages are devoted to "Notes for Parents." Here you will read about how to encourage your child to color in the illustrations and how this will help to develop pencil control, increase eye-hand coordination and build concentration. They advise a range of colored pencils or felt-tip pens. The page-by-page notes also give more insight into each activity sheet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent preparation and review
I bought three in these series of test books for my children. The tests can be divisible into short segments so are not overwhelming to the child (and are easier for a parent to encourage a child to do!) What I have found the most helpful so far is that the tests have identified a few areas in which my children could use some review. This is very helpful to a parent who wants to be thoroughly familiar with his/her child's skill levels. The other key advantage is that doing these tests periodically make the real test less strange and scary.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is a good book for first time tester
