This IS the book for answering kids questions!!
This book covers much more than things live and then they die. It talks about how you feel and invites the child to tell how they are feeling. Besides talking about death it explains funerals and what the purpose is. The thing I liked best about this book was how it explained the after life. No matter what your religious beliefs their explanation of after life is perfect and doesn't limit it's self to any specific belief. It goes on to discuss this in terms a child can understand "sometimes it helps if you think of a soul as a single rain drop, joining a great big ocean". We got a few books to help us explain and answer our 4 ½ year olds questions but this one covers everything, it's the only one we would have needed.

I agree, It IS OKAY TO READ THIS BOOK! ..and to be you...
Maybe some people's kids like reading old stuff like aesops fables..stuff that doesn't relate to the REAL WORLD. BUT MOST kids in TODAY'S WORLD have issues. Issues like- why do I have freckles and why do I have curly hair and why do I wear glasses and why can't I be like her... or him ...or them! That's why this book is SO WONDERFUL..it teaches a wonderful lesson - IT'S OKAY..TO BE DIFFERENT, IT'S OKAY TO BE YOU! Wonderful book about different types of diversity
This book has quickly been added to my story time collection. The illustrations are bright, colorful and charming for reading aloud or simply browsing. Children are reminded that it's okay to be different, no matter what their differences or similarities. While tolerance of others is one of the themes, self-acceptance is the most important message. This is a great book for showing that differences are perfectly fine and acceptable. The book does not reek of politically correct messages as much as it comforts us that being different is just fine. I, as an adult, liked myself a little better after I read it the first time. I think children will feel the same way.

A friend of mine took the book to read at her local children's hospital where it was a big hit with the patients who often feel very different. This is a must for any library, big or small.

I think alot of great things have been said by the reviewers that have come before me, but I want to add my two cents! My toddler son just loves this book. He particularly loves to search for the flea and the mouse on each page--even though he now knows where they are! He never tires of hearing it and I never tire of reading it. A great purchase.

Teach your child to read - and write
As a parent, you read to your children. But how do they learn to read? It's not one of those activities that is learned through observation. This book covers the steps that may seem transparent but are being assimilated through school, TV, etc. While the book is geared toward teachers, the instruction is clear, concise and reinforced by examples. Now I read for my child's instruction as well as enjoyment. I also create simple word games to play when we are away from home. As a result, I have seen a marked increase in my (3 year old) child's interest in and aptitude for both spelling and reading.

Great Resource
This book is very comprehensive. It includes wonderful ideas that can be applied in the classroom. In addition, it gives wonderful insight on the phonetic process. Assessments are included as well reading problems and possible solutions to these problems. This is a wonderful book to have in your personal reference library. I refer back to it at least once a month.

No other phonics book will ever be needed!
I did extensive research on phonics and took out numerous ones from the library to find the one I thought would be best for my simple, friendly teaching style. Excellent resource for special education reading teachers
I teach reading in special education learning disabilities class and I found this book to be the most comprehensive and teacher-friendly phonics resource available. It covers all the really important information a teacher needs to know in order to teach phonics. I found it an invaluable tool for quickly finding word lists, sound explanations, lesson plans for teaching phonics, sound-letter expectancies, the latest research available on teaching phonics, phonemic awareness activities, phonemic awareness assessment... the list goes on and on... Excellent book for Beginer Friends
My two boys love this book. Its a childs simplistic version of "How to be a Friend" and it is great. Right on their level and easy for them to relate to. The Arthur type characters are appealing to children and they make the book their choice for the evening and want me to read it again and again :) I have the hardback, it was a great find.

20 minutes well spent.
This is a good book for your children to read, in the sense that it has a good lesson within it's text. Your children can learn about telling the truth. A good idea to do while (or after) reading this story to your child, is to explain to them that they can tell you anything. You don't want your kids keeping secrets from you.

Liar Liar Pants on Fire
This book really related to me because I used to have a really big lieing problem until my dad and I sat down and had a talk about not to lie. In this story Brother and Sister Bear break Momma Bear's lamp they keep telling more and more lies. But when Papa Bear comes in to help them out he helps them get everything straightened out. Closing one chapter, opening another.....
I am an elementary guidance counselor, responsible for planning our promotion program yearly for our fifth grade students as they move to middle school. I'm always looking for meaningful things to add to the ceremony, traditions the kids will look back on with happy memories. We do a lot in my school with "Oh the Places You'll Go..." so I was looking for something of this genre to use. "Yay, You" is just the right length. I read it to the kids just before the ceremony and then include a quick reading as a prelude to the processional out of the gym. Because the kids have heard it already, they know what is coming. The parents and guests absorb the meaning of the "moving up, moving out" very well. It's WONDERFUL and a number of parents have purchased it for their children to commemorate the event. It is indeed now a tradition.

A Trip to the Past for Mom and Kids
When my children were small we read the Boynton board books so many times that we had to replace them for kid #3. They are one of my favorite baby shower gifts. Yay, You is a terrific book for both parents and kids (young adults?) as they enter the next life journey. I love this book! I fell in love with the cow doing yoga (OOM!). I bought 3 copies for friends who not only also think that's hysterical, but also are going through changes in their lives. Childrens' FUN easy to read classic
This book is an oldie but goodie. It brings back fond memories from my own childhood. Unlike other so-called "classics" that show their age with flaws (such as "Pat the Bunny"-- which exemplifies the typical stomach-turning smarmy 40's or 50's household and bland illustrations), this one is fun and shows its age with STYLE and humor ( with 60's-style cars and poodles).

But best of all, this is a great book because CHILDREN love it, and it's a beginner book that they'll start to memorize and read! Despite all of the books we've collected to read to our toddler, she requests this one again and again. The words are simple and easy to learn, and children are drawn to the lovable dogs.

As an adult, dogs are so amazingly appropriate as the main characters. I mean, what other animals "GO" like dogs? Dogs always seem to want to go somewhere or be busy, or join a "dog party!" and they are all different and unique, just like the ones in this book!

Go, Dog. Go! (This book is great!)
This is one of the most interesting and exciting books that your child will ever read in his/her lifetime! This has been one of the top three favorite books of mine since I was a child. To all of you silly little gooses out there, you better buy this book because it was created just for you. It will really bring out the creative side of your children. It really doesn't have a big moral or lesson or anything. That's what makes it so different and funny. This is a book for learning how to read. Not learning a lesson. It's just really fun to read, and to listen to when someone reads it to you.
"Dog. Big dog, little dog." That's how the story begins. How it ends? Read it and find out! You can either purchase it here online, or go to a store, or what I would do, rent it out from the library. I mean, why would you just go out and buy it, without knowing if you're going to like it? (I know that I'm supposed to try to make you buy it from here but I mean, I wouldn't. So I don't expect you to either.) All I'm here to do is to say how much I love and enjoy this book and think that you would too. I recommend it highly.

Vocabulary For The Dogs
This was one of my favorites as a child. It became a favorite of my daughter's as well. Now my son is hooked on it.

The book starts simply. "Dog" is the only word on the page. That sets up the theme.

We quickly are taken through comparisons and colors. Black, white, red, blue, yellow, green, in, out, up, down, big, small, stop, go, over and under. Add some simple numbers and the book gains real substance.

But then we have the two plots. First is the "Do you like my hat?" story that runs to the book's conclusion. The other is dogs on the go. They run around, go to sleep, wake up, drive away fast, and finally all congregate at the top of a tree.

Great Eastman illustrations and fun vocabulary will entertain most children

Sure Sign of Quality
My father winces whenever the subject of Go, Dog. Go! is brought up. This book wasn't just my favorite, I was obsessed with it. So, of course, Dad read it to me...ABOUT FIFTY THOUSAND TIMES! I think the poor man still has Go, Dog. Go! dreams. For me, Eastman will always live in a place with Seuss and Sendak. Superior children's lit.

This book is timeless. I loved it as a child and I love it as an adult. The pictures are great for kids. As an adult, I love the pictures as much as my son. The text is simple, but in a style that is enticing to young children, and allows kids to recite the story aloud after a few readings. I read it on the first day of school...
As a brand-new teacher (first grade), I thought this would be a great icebreaker and nerve-soother to read to my kids on the first day of school. None of them expected the surprise ending. The book helped both my criers and the rest of the class -- I talked to the criers about jitters, and how I had them, and how most everyone has them on the first day of school. I was able to use the book as an example to those better-adjusted kids, explaining that some people have worse first-day jitters than others. It was a great book to ease the kids into school again!

My son loved this book the first time I read it; he just finished his 1st year of pre-school and since he's an only child, he had a challenging time getting used to school and lots of kids all in one room! They changed the location of his school starting in the fall, so this was a timely book, as he won't be in the same building, and many of his new friends will be going elsewhere, thus he will have to look at new faces once again. This book has a great ending that made us laugh. I recommend the book highly.

A Must Have
This book is a must have for all teachers. I've read it to students as old as 4th grade and they've really enjoyed the twist at the end. It's a good discussion starter and can be used for all grades. I am also a fan of the author because I was her daughter's 3rd grade teacher! Get the book and have fun reading it to your class!

Everyone has the jitters!
Well, this is a superb book for children on the first day of school. The story tells about Sara Hartwell and how she does not want to go to school. She is worried that no one will like her and is extremely nervous about all the things people get nervous about on the first day of school. Mr. Hartwell with much fighting gets Sara to school as the princial is waiting on her to take her to class. When he shows her to the room you find out that Sara is really the teacher! It definitely a new perspective! This is a great way to start a discussion with students about how adults also get nervous and scared and share how they deal with those feelings. I use this book as a great story starter and have my first grade students write about what they have ever been nervous about and have them share and learn from each other's stories. good story - great pictures!
This is a simple story of a child who finds, beneath the leaves, a bright & lively creature & brings him home where his mother asks him how he'll take care of his newfound friend.

If a picture tells a thousand words then Steve Johnson's speak volumes. Vivid, compelling & so very magical & real, Brian's adventures & dreams fill the pages with the familiar & the whimsical. I loved the bed Brian made for his friend in his nightstand drawer & the moon & stars on his headboard. Unloading leaves with his dump truck & when the salamander peeks out of Brian's bedroom window, oh, you know you've seen that kind of energy, exhileration & anticipation!

A wonderful book of heartwarming visions with a simple, important story to tell about the responsibility & fun of bringing home wild creatures.

A great book
This gentle story about a boy's desire to make his room a good home for a salamander is one of our family's favorites. The boy's imagination runs wild as he creates the perfect environment for the salamander - and for himself, as well. This book makes a great bedtime story for parents and children alike.

A Salamanders Home
In this amazing book for children a young boy named Brian is exploring in a forest and finds a little salamander and takes it home. His mother is worried and keeps asking him how he is going to take care of this extraordinary creature. Well his mother comes up with more and more questions, while Brian keeps coming up with more and more answers.
As the story progresses Brian's bedroom begins to change, and the more questions he answers, the more his bedroom changes.
Near the end you begin to see what his bedroom is changing into.
At the end of the story his bedroom is filled with a multitude of animals and his room is now a forest but he and his salamander friend are happy and tired and they fall asleep.

I don't normally read children's books, but this one is wonderful! The story and writing are very moving, the illustrations are beautiful. And the message!!!!! Sure brings back memories!
What a great idea - these lil books were such a precious part of my growing up, love sharing them again with my son! There's a new author around who writes stories that are very similar to the lil goldens, and I recommend his book as well as this one: Bobtales by Bob Morgan

A Family Treasury of Little Golden Books
This is a wonderful selection of children's stories. I remember them from my childhood and own many of the individual books. Unfortunately, while the original little books had illustrations and a short text on each page, only a fraction of the pictures from each story have been retained for the treasury. In some extreme cases the text of 15-20 page picture books has been included all on one page with 1-2 small pictures. My 4 year old finds these somewhat boring, though she has loved the original books since before age 2. This book is worth buying if you don't have access to the originals, but it would be much better for young children if they had included more of the art which captures the imagination.

Looks like a good one but can be had for 2 dollars less at your local book store!

A great collection at a good price
It amazes me how expensive children's books are these days! Well, here's a way to get more for your money... a collection of favorites from a respected children's book publisher, Golden Books, for a price that won't break the bank. Especially for 46 stories! So if you have kids who like to read (or you like to read to!), this is a great addition to any library. Also a great way for a grandparent to have several kids books without the mess of lots of individual books.

I ordered A Family Treasury of LITTLE GOLDEN BOOKS for my two year old son. He really enjoys us reading the stories to him. I enjoy it since it has taken me back to my childhood. I remember reading these same stories when I was little but I had forgotten all about them. They used the original illustrations, which really gives the book a wonderful warmth. An Amazing Book
"A giraffe and a Half" By Shel Silverstein is an amazing book, especially for kids. I loved when my mom read it to me as a child or when I read it becuase it was always fun to see what came next. Sometimes I would even guess what was comming next. Both the pictures and the sayings made me laugh or smile. I would have to say it was one of my favorite books as a kid.

A Book My Mom Read To Me As A Child
I think this is a very good book for childeren becuase it is funny and also has alot of funny pictures. This book makes you laugh, and it also has many tounge twisters which, i think, makes it funnier.
This book is about a giraffe and a little boy and he keeps making the giraffe do things or adds things to him. Everytime he adds something to him you read what the giaffe has on or did all over again. The giraffe ends up taking off everthing of giving it away. In the end he is just a normal giraffe again.

Delightful
One of the best children's books I've read. The rhymes are contagious. The story slides off your tongue as you read it. Children are taken with it. And then we create the game of adding new verses and rhymes for the giraffe, and a half.

Giraffe & a Half :()
Giraffe and a half is great for kids that love repetition. Your child could learn to memorize better with this book. I really love this book and I would recommend getting other Shel Silverstein books because I have the whole collection.

Hilarious
I read it to my own kids when they were small, read it until they and I had it memorized. I then took it to school where I read it to my eighth--yes, eighth-graders who laughed and got sing-songy and guessed the next line and who chanted along as soon as they figured out the pattern.
