Book Description

Georgia thought she had put her "red-bottomosity" to rest when she finally chose Robbie the Sex God over Dave the Laugh. Anyway, Dave the Laugh is now dating her friend Ellen (which didn't stop Georgia from snogging him at a party...)

But when Dave breaks up with Ellen and the Sex God is never around, Georgia doesn't know what to do! As always, in Georgia's life, nothing ever turns out as planned!

5-0 out of 5 stars The saga continues...
I must say for a continuing series, Louise Rennison's books are very good. By the fourth book or so usually a series becomes dull and tiresome but these books don't. They are all equally funny and even if you are a stick-in-the-mud, you are sure to laugh ATLEAST once. I read somewhere in these reviews that a person said they hope for Georgia's character to grow. Well, let me ask you something... if she did, then would the books still be the same? Probably not. Georgia and her 'mates' remind me of a British version of valley girls. lol. Will Robbie be a different person when he gets back from Kiwi-a-gogo-land? Will Georgia and Dave the Laugh get together instead? Arghh, I suppose I will have to wait for 'Laughing Away on a Fast Camel'.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dancing in my nuddy pants
Once I began this book, I could not put it down. 'Dancing in my Nuddy-Pants' is a great book! Louise Rennison puts us in the shoes of an ordinary, teenage girl's life..except her life isn't so ordinary..She goes through many embarresing problems that other girls could relate to. This entry into Georgia Nicolson's diary is as loopy and as hilarious as ever. The whole point of the story? Gerogia has the Sex God as her boyfriend, but still is confused about her feelings for Dave-The-Laugh. Some other distractions? A class trip to Paris, and being made captain of the hockey team, are just some of the hilarious things that are included in this book. This is a great book, I recommend it to everybody that can read. This book is hysterically funny. You might not want to read this one in public!

5-0 out of 5 stars Marvy and double cool with knobs
These books are so great. Louise Rennison has continued to make me laugh every time I turn the page. It is nearly impossible to not put yourself in Georgia's shoes. I have read them all except for Away Laughing on a Fast Camel. I'm sure I will read it soon though. I hope Louise Rennison comes up with new ones soon! I would recommend these books to almost anyone, and I hope more people discover them.

5-0 out of 5 stars another laugh out loud hit from Rennison
Georgia is back and still funny :) I love these books and am so proud of Rennison for delivering sequals that are as funny, and in the case of the 2nd book On the Bright Side, I'm Now the Girlfriend of A Sex God funnier, sequals. One of my favorite scenes from this book is when Georgia's brain is racing because she is having coffee with her sex god and she is trying to avoid the santa claus mustache effect by drinking "like a hampster at Hammy's" .... yet another classic, go Rennison!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nuddy Pants
I cant decide if I want to give this book three or four stars. Compared to other young adult books it deserves four, but as part of Rennison's series I would only give it a measly three.
It is more serious than the rest, and I only laughed a total of three times as opposed to several laughs per page in the first instalment. The books in this series have been gradually getting worse and worse.
Hopefully with the near release of 'Away Lauging On A Fast Camel' the un-answered questions in 'Nuddy Pants' will be answered. Plus there has been a slight break between the release of 'Nuddy Pants' and 'Away Lauging' hopefully giving Rennison time to think of more ideas.
All in all it wasnt a bad book, but it didnt shine like some of its predecessors. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A bit of a disappointment
I have read all of the books in this series prior to reading Sold Out. I enjoyed the series immensely and would have recommended the books to any teenager; however, after reading Sold Out, my opinion has changed. Chloe's initial character was appealing because of her harder edge and atypical image. Unfornunately, as I read the book, I felt as though I was not reading the words of a teenager. The slang was dated, including words such as "groovy" and "pretty tough chick" as if these are typical of today's teenagers. Casual conversation throughout the story was far too structured to be that of teenage lunchtime banter, making the story seem spurious. Also, the issues in this book were either exaggerated or trivial. Few issues that Chloe faced were relatable to teenagers today. The book was trite, dated, melodramatic, and mawkishly sentimental.

5-0 out of 5 stars just as good as the first
Chloe Miller and bandmates Allie and Laura are facing a whole new list of changes in this book. For one, a brief scare comes when Laura has to deal with a pastor who feels that the girls' music is not "faith promoting." The girls' band gets recognized by an agent, and they are off to try out. People start to treat them differently, and there is their friendship aside from the band, school, and, of course, making sure that thier music is sending out the right message. I personally cannot wait for the next book in this series. It was that good. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Guts
In this book, Gutsy Girls, you will find that the girls have a lot of guts. I recommend this book to girls who love sports because it is about sports. One of the parts I liked was Beth Rodden's story. She was a rock climber and she said that rock climbing doesn't only include physical strength it also requires mental strength.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gutsy Girl
Gutsy Girls is a good book. It has many parts with many people. I recommend this book for 5th and 6th graders. I like this book because it has a variety of different sports and activities.

Meliara is summoned to live at the royal palace, where friends and enemies look alike, and intrigue fills the dance halls and the drawing rooms. If she is to survive, Meliara must learn a whole new way of fighting-with wits and words and secret alliances.

In war, at least, she knew in whom she could trust. Now she can trust no one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just the right amount of everything, with an amazing heroine
After I read this book, it quickly became one of my all time favorites. I couldn't stop thinking about it for several days.
The book starts out with Meliara (Mel) promising her dying father to help save the kingdom. Mel is witty, brave, and ignorant at the beginning of the book. She and her brother share the title of Count and Countess of Tlanth. They quickly launch their county into war against the king's army to help protect who and what they stand for.
Mel soon finds herself running for her life from the rest of the kingdom. This part of the story is fast paced and a real page turner. I won't give away the ending of the first book, though, because you'll want the suspense when you read the book for yourself.
In the second book, Court Duel, Mel kinds herself at court in the capital. She, who has only owned one dress at a time and has never really flirted before, soon finds herself surrounded in fancy gowns, countless social events, and several flirtations, one in perticular with an "Unkown" admirer who, when you read the book, you should be able to figure out. But when the secrets are told and the climax is reached at the end, you won't mind a bit. It ends with a bang, which leaves you wishing there was more so you wouldn't have to stop.
This story wouldn't have been as good as it was if it weren't for the way the author portrayed Mel. She was not faceless or perfect, but thoroughly likable with her shortcomings, but also her bravery and eagerness. She is one of the most realistic fantasy characters I have ever read about. These characters are what tend to make the best stories.

4-0 out of 5 stars Crown or Court?
The combined book, titled as 'Crown Duel' is an engaging, quick paced story of the young Countess Meliara.
The story begins with the Count -Mels and Brans father- dying. Before passing away, however, he makes Mel And Bran swear that they will defend the people from the greedy king.
This promise forces them into war. But with no apparent allies, they struggle.
However, things change when Mel is captured and taken to the evil king by the Marquis of Shevraeth.
She runs through the countryside, getting herself into danger, and being saved.
Her story continues in part two of the book, The Court Duel. It gives many intesting points, although all romance is predictable even in the beginning, from the point the two meet.
I thourghly enjoyed the book, and stayed up half the night reading it.
The romance in the ending brought a smile to my face, but the action felt flat and rushed. As for the smaller story, although it was a nice snippet, it made me feel the author was losing sight of the characters personalitys. I didn't feel it was needed and she should have put those pages into a better ending for the book.
All in all, the book is a page-turner, and its wit and style excellant. I would certainly reccomend it to others... great read!

3-0 out of 5 stars Amusing but lifeless
Her country under the rule of a tyrannical king, Meliara and her brother swear to their dying father that they will fight to overthrow him. In such a way they begin a war that they can't pay for or provide more than a handful of troops, bringing certain death to their people. And when Meliara is taken by the enemy, she knows her life is over- unless she is willing to trust those who her heart knows she shouldn't.

In the second book, Meliara travels with her brother to the capital after the old king has been overthrown and there is a possibility of actual peace. Here she has to fight a whole different battle- one with words instead of swords that could have just as deadly results. When the peace, threatening to break, finally does, Meliara learns some hard lessons and will have to make more than a few difficult choices.

To me, this book was somewhat slow and poorly written. The story felt forced, not flowing (the part with Meliara tramping around the kingdom could have been done in half as many pages), and the whole save-my-kingdom-from-evil has been done before in better ways. Amusing for a rainy afternoon, but not five star quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!!!!!
I loved this book soooo much!
I could hardly put it down, and even though i was tired I would keep reading until i fell asleep. I'm so pissed i finished it so quickly, cause now I don't know if I will find anything as good! I loved the way it was written, and the way it described the court life. I felt like i was there myself, and that was my favorite part of the book. I hope that all who read it will find it as wonderful as I do!
Sherwood Smith has a great imagination!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A fast-paced novel with romance, action, and adventure!
I am a huge advocate for more books that have strong female heroines in them; this is one such book. The Countess, "Mel" as she is affectionately called, is a heroine in her early twenties or so who is trying to uphold a vow to her fatehr that she would fight for the protection of the local mystical "Hillfolk" and their rare trees. In her efforts to protect this vow the books (there are two books in this novel) take the reader through wars in both the battlefield and the royal court. Mel soon learns that courtiers are not all that they seem and to the readers' delight there are many plot twists and suspenseful moments sure to keep you reading.

Although I don't want to spoil the ending, there is a large amount of romance in this boook that leaves you feeling excited and cheering for the heroine. One good feature of this particular binding is that it features a small short story, "Vidanric's Birthday Surprise," additionally included in the end, that is about the central characters and is evidently not found in other versions. I highly recommend reading it because it gives you a wonderful closing to a wonderful duo of books. ... Read more

Amelia Bloomer is not a proper lady. She thinks proper ladies of the 19th century are silly. They're not allowed to vote, not supposed to work, and all that fuss about clothes! Ridiculously wide hoop skirts, yards and yards of hot petticoats, and cruelly tight corsets supported by whalebone or steel made women faint at the drop of the hat: "What was proper about that?" So Amelia, being so very improper, sets out to revolutionize the world for women.

Not only does she start her own newspaper and try to change the voting laws, she also popularizes a new fashion. This bold new garb shocks the proper ladies, but frees all others to move, digest, breathe, and think about something other than keeping from fainting (such as voting and working). Named for their best spokesperson, bloomers marked the start of a kinder, gentler approach to women's fashion--and women's rights.

Shana Corey's lightly humorous voice is perfect for this true story about the 19th-century women's rights activist. A note at the end provides horrifying and fascinating information about women's restrictive clothing (corsets sometimes displaced internal organs!) and the dress reform that Amelia Bloomer spearheaded. Chesley McLaren's breezy, exuberant illustrations charmingly reflect her background in fashion design and illustration. (Ages 5 to 8)--Emilie Coulter ... Read more

Amelia Bloomer was not a proper lady. All the other ladies thought she was ridiculous. she would protest, start her own buisnesses with other women. Amelia Bloomer was always looking for a way to fight for womens rights, and to change the way women had to dress. But the world just wan't ready for Amelia Bloomer yet. Until one day when her friends cousin brought somthing amazing into Amelias life. It was a different type of dress . It had pants. Amelia was amazed by this outfit. right away she made her own. Pretty soon women all over the world wanted to wear (what Amelia called) Bloomers. They made then in plaid, blue, pink, and many other designs and colors. Amelia Bloomer made a big differenc for women. to find out what else dhe did for women read this book. i think you'll love it

5-0 out of 5 stars Do You Know What Bloomers Are?
Do you know what bloomers are? Well, if you don't, read the book YOU FORGOT YOUR SKIRT, AMELIA BLOOMER! Amelia is a girl who hates dresses! Amelia was not a proper lady! Amelia thought proper ladies were silly. She thought it was silly that ladies could not work! So she started her own newspaper. She thought it was even sillier that ladies had to wear big, heavy dresses. So she did something about it! My favorite part is when she made the bloomers and wore them. She sort of looked silly and sort of looked cool. I really liked this book because I learned a lot about Women's History. I learned what bloomers are too! And if you want to know what bloomers are...then read this book! - By Danielle S. Age 7

5-0 out of 5 stars Skirts are for women and pants are for men....Always
It used to be that way. Now, girls can wear pants if they like, and well, men wear pants too, always, no skirts. One day, Amelia Bloomer is sick of little girls looking too nice to play, and skirts are NOT practically for fun. Amelia takes a stand and makes.....BLOOMERS!

5-0 out of 5 stars Our Very Favorite Book!
My young daughter *adores* this book - we read it over and over and over. She LOVES Amelia Bloomer, loves the story, loves the whimsical and wonderful artwork, and NEVER tires of reading this book! [Neither do I - which is really saying something!]

This is a great introduction to the women's rights movement without being anti-male or overbearingly feminist.

Amelia Bloomer is a wonderful heroine and my daughter never tires of emulating her. She even requested some bloomers to wear which led me to an internet search for "real" bloomers [which we found!] and she loves wearing them under her dresses now.

This book is so much fun to read and look at - it is just Fabulous all the way around!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Beginnings of the Fashion Revolution.....
Back in the 19th century, "proper ladies" were not allowed to vote, were not supposed to work and worst of all dressed in enormous hooped dresses that were hot, heavy (20 to 40 pounds) and very impractical. They wore corsets that were so tight it was hard to breathe or even digest and their skirts were so wide they were always getting stuck in doorways and chairs. "What in the world was proper about that?" Amelia Bloomer was definitely not a proper lady. She tried to change the law so that women could vote. She started her own women's newspaper named, The Lily, and hired other women to work with her. But best of all, she started a fashion craze that changed women's clothing forever..... Shana Corey and illustrator, Chesley McLaren have authored an amusing and delightful story, based on historical fact, that traces the beginnings of practical, comfortable and easy to wear clothing for women. Ms Corey's easy to read text is humorous and chock full of fun facts and complemented by Ms McLaren's charming, colorful fashion artwork. An author's note at the end fleshes out the story even more with additional fascinating information about the beginnings of the women's rights movement and fashion reform. Perfect for youngsters 5-9, You Forgot Your Skirt, Amelia Bloomer! is a treasure and a little piece of history that shouldn't be missed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good self-esteem builder for young girls...
A fun-and-valuable read for girls in upper elementary or middle school, Rimm's See Jane Win for Girls is a self-esteem boosting, self-discovery book that girls enjoy. My 12-year-old daughter enjoyed reading this book to reveiw with me, and she was smiling often, and even laughed out loud.

From Brainpower to Social Smarts (or not!), continuing to tough topics including When Things Change (moving, new school, divorce, etc.) and Family (anger, parents, siblings, and more), Rimm talks about many of the everyday and extraordinary issues facing smart girls today, and offers introspection and ideas for dealing with them, and growing from them.

See Jane Win for Girls is mixed with quotes and questions from young girls, quotes from grown-up girls, and inventories and tips to make the book even more personal for your smart girl.

I'd recommend this book for all gifted young girls, before, during and after those difficult middle school years.

This book is one of the best books ive ever read. It tells a story about a young girl named parvana and her struggling family. When Parvana's father is taken to prison Parvana being the middle child is forced to cut her hair, dress up as a boy and get a job to help her family afford food.

5-0 out of 5 stars A portrait of a desperate life.
I read "Parvana's Journey" over Thanksgiving break. This book, the sequel to Ellis' "The Breadwinner", continues the story of Parvana, a young Afghan girl who disguises herself as a boy in order to help her family survive. In this one, Parvana's been separated from her mom and siblings, and her father has just died. She travels across Afghanistan, picking up refugees as she goes along (including an infant boy, a boy missing a leg, and a girl who believes she is magically protected against mine fields). This installment was even more heartwrenching than the last and it is truly the perfect novel to read at Thanksgiving time - it makes you remember what you should be thankful for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Endless sorrow....well written
This book is an emotional loopty-loop. It really brought to life the poverty and hunger that "we" feel is so far away...death,,,killing,,,mourning,,,sorrow and graves were plentyful in this book. It shows the world the social issues from a resident's perspective. Although there were many sad times in the book, it was well written and deserves to be a bestseller. Delightful children's book! These are questions that have dynamic, creative, and fun answers. Every girl will enjoy it.
Moms will too.

5-0 out of 5 stars The definitive book for every little girl!
Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots? Yes we do! This is a terrific book for every little girl who has ever asked a question about herself. Of course, we all have and the mother's gentle wisdom with a smile reinforces to girls of all ages that it is alright to be yourself and to live life with joy. Sweetly written with warm illustrations...and a surprise on the last page, this is a must have for every little girl you know.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
What does it mean to be a princess? That is the theme readers explore as they move through each vignette in this charming book. On the left hand side of each double-page spread, the main character'a spunky little girl'asks her mother a question such as, 'Do princesses climb trees?' and 'Do princesses have to do any chores?' On the right hand page, the mother answers, always in the affirmative.

The rhyming text is cleverly and colorfully illustrated with cartoon-like line drawings. Each scene captures perfectly the spirited and likeable main character.

At the conclusion of the story, the little girl asks her mother, 'Mommy, do princesses seem at all like me?' to which her mother replies, 'Look inside yourself and see'' When the reader turns the page, there she finds a framed mirror, with her own face reflected, and beside it the words, 'A princess is a place in your heart.' A fitting and perfect ending to a winning tale.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is my daughter's favorite book!
As a father, I enjoy nothing better than reading to my kids. It is such a wonderful way to connect and be involved in their lives and development. This book lights up the imaginations of little girls, not that they aspire to become princesses after reading it, but rather that they already ARE princesses! The book innocently introduces the child to her real self, and makes it OK to be just that - no need to pine away to be someone you aren't. If everyone could adopt that perspective, the world would be a much more loving place, and people would enjoy life with contentment and self esteem. Amazingly simple, yet profound. Thank you Carmela!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Charming book for little girls.
Sure to become a classic for many generations. This timeless book captures the innocence of childhood with a unique and meaningful message that every girl (and her Mom) will remember well into adulthood. 'Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots?' is a colorful and fun story book that encourages self love within the hearts of little girl Princesses everywhere. ... Read more

Book Description

"We have buried the putrid corpse of liberty."
-- Benito Mussolini

It's not like I'm surprised my mom picked the Mussolini quote for her wedding invitation. She's never been what one would call "conventional." I was a little surprised (but happy) when she agreed to marry my English teacher, Max Medina. Which makes my summer even busier -- with my classes at Chilton, the wedding planning, and, as Paris so efficiently pointed out, about ten years of extracurricular activities to catch up on, it makes me wonder: whatever happened to the good ol' days of summer loving, had me a blast?

4-0 out of 5 stars The same spirit of the show...
I usually like to read books that are exciting and unexpected; things that you NEVER know would happen.

I pretty much blew all those things away by reading the Gilmore Girls series. I've seen all the shows (no kidding- my friends and I should form a club... or perhaps a cult) and NOTHING is a surprise any more. Max Medina? Old news.

But... there is a shortage of Gilmore Girls reruns where I live. And reading the book is almost exactly like seeing the show... you can practically hear Rory and Lorelai talking as you read the dialogue...

If you're a Gilmore fan, get the book. Makes you understand just a bit more... but if you haven't seen the show, I wouldn't recommend it. See the show, THEN read the book.

But even I'M not sure if the Cheshire Cat's horror can properly be conveyed through a book. Seeing is believing. :)

why would anyone read these books when he/she could just watch the show? we already know what's going to happen....

5-0 out of 5 stars Gilmore Girls
In this Gilmore Girls book, Lorelai and Max are ready to marry. But then Lorelai starts to get cold feet. Her and Rory get in the car and drive to who knows where, until they end up at a B&B. They have to stop even though they both hate B&B's. While there, Lorelai and Rory make a surprise trip to Harvard University, the Ivy League College that Rory hope to attend. What will happen in teh next chapter of the Gilmore Girls' lives? Read "I Do, Don't I", to find out.

Based on the bestselling classic, What's Happening to My Body? Book forGirls, this workbook uses quizzes, exercises, personal stories, checklists, and other activities to help girls learn about the changes that willtake place in their bodies during puberty. What's Happening to My Body?explores these physical and emotional changes in greater detail, but theworkbook/journal invites more participation, so that girls can really getinvolved in the sometimes bewildering, wonderful, and scary transformations thattake place as they become women. Written in a peppy, fun style, with a strongemphasis on honest, straightforward discussions, the workbook covers such topicsas menstruation, acne, pubic hair, breasts, growing pains, and sex, with suchchapter headings as "The Big M," "The Female Sex Organs: An Owner's Manual," and"B.O. and Zits--Is Puberty the Pits?" The information provided and questionsasked are smart, sensitive, and highly relevant to girls entering puberty.Questionnaires ask girls to decide what they would do in different situations(Jan's breasts have started to develop, but she lives with her dad and isembarrassed to ask for a bra. 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book for Us!
I've looked at a lot of books and this one is great,! Unlike other books, it does not mention anything about boys, yet. I feel like for a young girl, "Let's learn about your body first" boys later. Also unlike other books, it doesn't go overboard with talking about a first trip to the gynecologist or anything explicit about sex.

I love the workbook idea so you can compare and see where your at and maybe have some fun at guessing what part of puberty is coming next and which order it is going to happen in. Whether, it's big feet, sweating, boobs, or periods.

I bought this for my 1st daughter in 4th or 5th grade. She's 14 now and she still looks at it every now & then just to see where she's at. Now I'm getting a second one for my other daughter who will be entering 5th grade.

I love it so much mostly because it's only about girls and puberty. I don't want to overburden my girls with more than what's going on with themselves at this age. Eduction about boys & girls starts in 6th grade. I've seen plenty of other books, mostly borrowed from the library, and some go too much into detail, including a few that actually talk about "the act" and exactly how boys & girls go together complete with drawings!

THIS BOOK IS PERFECT!

2-0 out of 5 stars Lovely and Fruitful!
This was a wonderful. The bit about the horses running in the field of corn was my favourite! Sammy the Lamb was my best character. I hated snoopy the snoop, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars What's Happening to my body?-It taught me alot!
I am 11 years old and I am not afraid of Puberty anymore! Now that I have read this book and completed the activities, I feel great! All girls that feel puberty is a drag, or if you just need to know more, get this book! I give it a perfect 10 for outstanding achevement by the excellent author duo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent all by itself!
I bought this workbook for my 11 year old daughter without the companion "What's Happening to my Body" book. The book is easy for a young girl to understand, interspersing medical terminology with common slang (nothing crude) and it is illustrated with lots of line drawings. It is extremely comprehensive, taking what is commonly taught about puberty one step further.

My daughter really enjoyed the activities in the book, from researching the 'female' history of the family to developing new family traditions. Due to that particular exercise I now have to celebrate 'first periods' by taking my girls out to dinner when the moon is full !!! I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

The birds and bees have never been so hip, thanks to Esther Drill, Heather McDonald, and Rebecca Odes, creators of gURL.com and authors of Deal with It! A Whole New Approach to Your Body, Brain and Life as a gURL. As their Web site blossomed in popularity, the gURLs noticed that today's teens have the same questions about sex, love, and growing up that they had as teens. "Hearing what they had to say convinced us that there was a need for a new kind of book about being a girl, one that's smart, funny, approachable, and tuned in to the things girls really want to know." With chapters such as "Boobs," "What's Up Down There," "To Do It or Not to Do It," and "Those Sucky Emotions," the gURLs have got everything covered--with the frankness, humor, and style frustratingly absent from the majority of similarly themed books. All topics are fair game: zit remedies; a dazzling array of hair removal techniques; masturbation methods; sexual positions and orientations; what to do if you are raped; how to deal with anger, depression, and anxiety; the physical effects of different drugs; how to get along with friends and family; and more. In addition to a cooler-than-cool, color-drenched layout and loads of detailed info, Deal with It includes a ton of questions, comments, and personal advice from teenage girls who frequent gURL.com. Reading page after page of these earnest, confused, and curious young voices drives home the need for a book like Deal with It and makes clear that the women of gURL.com have met that challenge with resounding success. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Well Written and put together
ok, this book was informative and very fun to read. .... My parents didn't know what I was getting, and I sort of didn't either. It seemed mature because of its explicit ... material .... . My parents looked at it and were very uneasy with me. I was, of course, totally embarassed. If a daughter or girl wants to read this or you want to give this to her, I do recommend you be aware of the material first. Although some can be suggestive, the rest is very informative in a fun way. The authors put together advice and opinions ... from girls and there were many funfacts ... The information was very well put together and really helps the modern teen girl of today. And its not all about sexuality and body, there are spiritual, family, friends, and school issues, and mind and brain info that is discussed. ... I was mature enough to handle it. Because of that,I found it very fun and informative. I would recommend this book ...

4-0 out of 5 stars For ages 13 and up, I'd say
Keep in mind that this book is not something to read cover-to-cover like a novel - it is much more of a reference book. Basically, it talks about sex, puberty, and changes in the body, as well as drugs, a bit of peer pressure, and certain kinds of mental illnesses. Still, parents need to know what they are buying their girls. My mom bought it for me while I was away at camp and for whatever reason, shipped it to me while I was residing up in the Pocono Mountains. The girls in my bunk went crazy and laughed hysterically over the pictures. Then, they proceeded to pass it around the bunk and read passages out loud. Every once in awhile, a counselor would find the book wide open on her pillow, flipped to a page with some diagram on it.

Yes, THOSE kind of diagrams. Body parts.

This is info every girl ought to know about, however. Nothing really ought to be deemed controversial here. This book basically talks about life, or something like it. What goes on in this book is happening, as I speak, to girls everywhere. If you've got qualms about graphic CARTOON pictures, then do not by this book. And for mothers reading this, I suggest your girl be in the eighth grade. Or if she's 12 and mature...what the hell. They'll find out everything here sooner or later!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bought it For Myself
I bought this book when I was a junior in High School, and I love it. I've read it a number of times over the years and I think it's the best book of its kind that I've ever read. One of my friends goes as far as saying that this book should be government issue to every girl, and I agree.

That said... This is not a book that you just hand a 12 or 13 year old girl and say "Here, this is all you ever need to know." If you are a parent buying this book for your preteen/early teen daughter, READ IT FIRST. THEN discuss the book with your daughter. The book is about FACTS, and some of them you might not like. But one other fact is that YOU are responsible for telling your child your own values. If the idea of talking to your own child makes you uncomfortable, fine, but you're the one that is going to have to deal with the consequences of your own inaction.

This book is a wonderful tool for parents, if they are willing to open their minds to accept it.

(Most of this review is based on the 'Sex' part of the book. The rest of the book should be "tame" enough by most parents' standards.)

5-0 out of 5 stars informal and informational
This book was excellent, and I found myself reading cover-to-cover, which is usually rather unusual for nonfiction books. It tells a girl most everything she needs to know about herself; knowledge is a powerful and important thing, and lack of it doesn't bring you very far in the real world. In the real world, anyone would rather be well-informed and alive than badly-informed and dead. A definite must-read for girls of most any age.

5-0 out of 5 stars juz great

It is crazy that Dean and I broke up. Things were going great between us. I mean, he tells me he loves me one minute, then the next minute he breaks up with me. My mom thinks I should wallow and stuff my face with junk food, but I'm not so sure that's the answer. And let's face it, when it comes to relationships, my mom doesn't always show the best judgment, especially if my dad's involved. What I really need to do is stay focused and keep busy. In this Gilmore Girls book Rory and Dean break up. I would love to tell you why but then I would be giving away a major part of the stroy. But i can tell you this....they get back together in the end. Lorelai wants Rory to wallow beacuse that's what every girl should do after their first break up. But Rory is not every girl. Rory then decides to go to a Chilton party and something very interesting happends. Find out what happens in this wonderfully funny Gilmore Girl novel.

I Hope You Enjoy It!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is a great book for people young and old. I haven't picked up a book since high school which was three years ago and these books have me going, there's no putting it down!! If you all have seen the TV show which most of you have the book, is very similar to the episodes but told in Rory's point of view. I recommend this book and all Gilmore Girls books to every reader who has a big heart and can relate to a mother daughter relation ship like Rory and Lorelai or like Lorelai and Emily or just need some heartfelt reading to do!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable reading
I love the witty dialog of the TV show and this book is the literary version of the show. Great writing. Great Dialog. Great characters. This book is for grown-up readers also.

I loved reading the part where Lorelai tries to get Rory to "wallow" after a breakup. Rory would rather handle the problem by making a list and getting things done -- which she does -- mother Lorelai does get her to open up and release the hurt in a more indulgent way too. This should be required reading for all teenaged girls. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Journal Of Self Discovery
The book is beautifully done. However, I was sort of disappointed because of the lack of information. There are a lot of things for me to fill out but not enough stuff for me to read. However, it IS a journal but I wish it was more detailed about what it wanted me to write and such. There are some things in here you can fill in once and if you want to fill it in again, you have to erase which is sometimes a pain.

I think this book is for younger girls. If you want a mature book with a lot of good information, I would suggest The Care and Keeping of You.

Although I'm disappointed, I definitely don't regret buying it but you should have the companion book (The Care of and Keeping of You: The Body Book For Girls) first before getting the journal.

Have fun!

Recommended by critics from every industry including- entertainment, medical and literary!Such as The Rosie O Donnell Show – Entertainment, National Oncology Nursing Society- Medical, Today’s Librarian, Midwest Book Review, Against the Grain, Today's Dallas Woman and other literary reviewers across the country!

Told through the eyes of it's title character, Tickles Tabitha's Cancer-tankerous Mommy uses candor and comic reality to dispel stereotypes and acknowledge some moody truths faced by families LIVING with cancer.

"Mommy's wig was still attached to her head, but she didn’t look so good. The wig-hair stuck out like snarled rat-tails in all directions. There was a crooked horizontal line right where her smile should be. Worst of all she was in no mood to play Tickles Tabitha."

A poignant and humorous account of a Mommy’s moodiness, caused in part by the medicine she must take to cure her cancer. It's about a family that loves one another, minus the sap. Instead it reads like it could be your family; not the family you think you ought to be. Expect young readers to ask to be tickled until their faces turn pink! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent children's book
This is a humorous book that deals not just with cancer but with family life. My favorite part is Tabitha's mental picture of Daddy sitting in the time out chair. I wish I had had this book when my children where presented with a close neighbor who had cancer. Wether a child has a parent, grandparent, friend or friend's parent in their life who has cancer, this is an excellent book to use to start talking about it. Shiver me timbers! Bloody Jack is back and this time, she’s facing a situation far worse than a ship full of murderous pirates. Curse of the Blue Tattoo, L.A. Meyer’s sequel to the enormously popular Bloody Jack: Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary "Jacky" Faber, Ship’s Boy is just as bawdy and entertaining as the original.Left in Boston by the H.M.S. Dolphin crew when they discover her true sex, Jacky Faber finds herself navigating entirely new waters. It turns out that bloodthirsty buccaneers have nothing on the young ladies at the Lawson Peabody School! As Jacky observes, "…they’re like any bunch of thirty or so cats thrown in a sack and shaken up good. They’re mean in ways that boys never even thought of being." It isn’t long before Jacky shows her true colors by being arrested for "exposing a Female Part" (her knee) while jigging in the streets and is "busted down" to serving girl instead of student. Jacky soldiers on, getting herself into scrapes that her darling beau midshipman Jaimy Fletcher couldn’t even begin to imagine, including uncovering a shady minister’s evil secret and fixing a horse race with voodoo. And where in the world is seafaring Jaimy? As her letters to him continue to go unanswered, Jacky grows more and more worried. Still, at book’s end she takes an assignment as "lady’s companion" to the captain’s wife aboard a whaler headed for London.Astute readers will notice that the whaler’s crabby captain has a peg leg and won’t be surprised if in the next Bloody Jack Adventure, Jacky ends up hunting the great white whale!

Utterly engaging and incredibly well-paced,Curse of the Blue Tattoo is the very best kind of historical fiction: the kind that won’t leave teens snoring. Meyer effortlessly maintains Jacky’s sassy voice and conflicted conscience in what is shaping up to be a great series. While many readers will groan with despair as Jacky sets off yet again at the end of the book, they will also sigh with relief that they will most likely be meeting her again! --Jennifer Hubert ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Well Done, once again
Let me tell you something: Creating a sequel to such a great book like "Bloody Jack", is a hard task. But, Mr. Meyer has done it, and he has done it very well. Although the second book does not have as much action as the first, it has just as good of a plot, story and theme. When i found out Mr. Meyer was to make a sequel, i asked myself, "How can he write a sequel and not have the same story line? Obviously she cannot hide the fact that she is a girl any longer, which means she cannot sail the seas. How will Mr. Meyer accomplish the task of writing a second chapter in the Bloody Jack tales? And if he does, will he be succesful?"

The Answer is, yes, this story is equally good, no, equally GREAT as the first one. Nice work Mr. Meyer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tut Tut.
(...) Curse of the Blue tatoo is not only a icky book, its a Baaaaaaaad sequel. I don't hate Bloody Jack, its actually a pretty good book. Blue Tatoo is a stupid book. No offense meant to Mr. Meyer though. It was much too long, going on and on about how she hates her school, how she struggles to survive, how she doesn't like wearing low-cut dresses, how precious Jaimy will love her for being so prissy, blah blah bleh. It loses any resemblance to the first early on in the book. Dont read this please. (hehe i also dont like it cuz it makes us New Englanders look bad hehe)

5-0 out of 5 stars Move over Harry
Move over Harry, there's a new series taking over- The Adventures of Bloody Jack. The sequal to the award winning book Bloody Jack, The Curse... picks right up where the first one left off. The action packed book is as equally good or better than the first (which is my favorite book of all time). From the brillant mind of L.A. Meyer, Jacky seems to find herself in trouble throughout the countless adventures that occurs throughout this novel. The reader is introduced to many new characters and places, where at the same time a few faces from the past begin to appear throughout the story. In the end, Bloody Jack leaves you wanting more- once again! This book is perfect for any young teen or adult that needs some action or adventure in their life. This is a must read for the entire family!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bloody Jack Forever!
I just finished Curse of the Blue Tattoo- I couldn't put it down. Meyer's second book in the Bloody Jack series might even be better than the first (and I loved the first one). The story moves quickly, I could not predict what would happen next. I don't to give anything away (I hate reviews that give away major plot points)- suffice to say that there were parts of the book that made my heart pound (and that doesn't happen very often). I am 28 years old and do not delve into the young adult category for reading very often. Curse of the Blue Tattoo is a great read for anyone, regardless of age- When's the movie coming out?? ...
