5-0 out of 5 stars A confusing, absurd, and hilarious series.
This book is the first in the Hank the Cowdog Series. It introduces the characters well. Hank is very conceited and never admits to being wrong. It is always someone else's fault. But his conversations with Drover (his sidekick) are hilarious because of this.

This book doesn't have quite the absurdity which makes the later volumes so funny, but it has a better plot than some. Of course, Hank leaves the ranch, like in most of the books. And of course, he comes back.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Original Adventures of Hank the Cowdog
This book is so sweet it should of won the Newberry award for best book. Even though a third grader could read it I at age almost 18 still enjoyed the doggy dog days of Hank. The little words in the big print makes it easy and enjoyable to read. I think Hank speaks the truth about life and the bad things that are out there. Hank teaches kids not to do drugs and kill chickens. I believe that Hank the Cowdog is a great inspiration to us all. Also allowing younger readers to believe in themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Laughter for the young and old
I read this book to my students (third and fourth graders) at the recommendation of a publisher/teacher friend. I had heard from other teacher friends that "kids love the cliffhangers at the end of every chapter" and that "this is the only book my students would sit still for." All that, true. What I hadn't expect was how much I would enjoy it as well. My husband is also hooked on the series and I've gotten one of the books for my sister-in-law who was a reluctant reader until Hank came along. I strongly recommend adding this book to your own library, your kids' library, and, if you are a fellow teacher, your school library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really fun book for kids
This is a nice and entertaining book for kids. I read it aloud to my 3rd grade daughter and together we laughed and had a great time. It is written from the first person (dog)adds much to the story. Hank (the cowdog) has attitude, faces evils, and learns much about himself and his role as "head of ranch security." Only one caution is needed, Hank the Cowdog does not use proper English (often using "them" in place of "those" which is a personal irritation of mine) and his spelling is sometimes poor, but these are done in a humorous way and add flavor to the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hank the Cowdog
When I first got this book, before I read it, I was a bit apprehensive; A book written from a dog's perspective? Give me a break!. After I started it though I couldn't stop laughing, Hank is a bone-headed dog with an over-inflated ego, but the story isn't a bit tacky. Hank blunders around his ranch, barking at the mailman (you never know what those guys are up to), "investigating" murders (burp), and getting yelled at by Sally May. You'll love not only this book but the whole series. Let me warn you, you will become addicted to Hank the Cowdog; and the audio-tapes are even better. When is the last time you listen to a book on tape? Well, forget that, those were READ, Hank on tape is PERFORMED by the author. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Adventures of Hank the Cowdog
Hank the cowdog is about a dog named Hank and he lives in a farm.Everything is going right fo Hank because he is the leader of the dogs and nobody ever dared to talk back to him until one day another dog named Rufus came to take over. Then Rufus starts making fun of Hank for having crossed eyes (he got crossed eyes because he tried to see the part where his nose had no skin on it).One time Rufus was acting like Hank (imitating Hank)and Hank ran away.Hank confronted (met) snakes and big birds which he had trouble with.Hank had to deal with Rufus.Do you think he (Hank) might get away with still being the leader?,well if you keep on reading the ending you will know.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great series for developing readers
My ten year old son is a rapidly developing avid reader who has fallen absolutely in love with this excellent series. Erickson creates rapid narratives filled with honest (and yes, corny) humor and pleasently comic action and an occasional moral or two.

This series provides young readers with a simple, yet appropriately challenging vocabulary. It also provides fine entertainment as it can hold a young man, who favors outdoor activities and sports, and his attention span for countless hours. A most highly reccomended series of books designed to encourage and develop young readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting!
This is my all time favorite Hank the Cowdog book! I love Madam Moonshine and Wallace and Junior. It's witty and humorous throughout the book. I'm impatiently waiting for #34 to come out. I recomend any of these books to children and adult alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hank's stricken with "Eye-Crosserosis". Can he find a cure?
Poor Hank! This makes a great sequel to number one! This is one of the best, and the cure for this terrible disease is hilarious! I would recommend this book to any Hank the Cowdog fan! - MG ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Heh heh, I can't help but love these Hank books...
I highly reccomend the Hank the Cowdog books if you're a dog lover, or if you just enjoy good, clean humor and fun! The books
are written in Hank's perspective, which, I think, makes them funnier than if they weren't written in his persppective. He tries to talk "intelligent," but really he is actually quite, um,
well, to be to-the-point... DUMB. And Hank's conversations with Drover are priceless. If you don't have this book, you really should get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious fun

5-0 out of 5 stars A book that will blow you away
Hank the Cow Dog #25 is a good book to read. It is set on a ranch in the present. Hank is trying to sleep when the Charlie Monsters attack (a storm). So Hank & Drover have to run into Sally May's kitchen, where no dog has returned from. Can Hank live through the case? They get out of the kitchen alive but come face-to-face with the Swirling Killer Tornado and get sucked into it. I would recommend this book to 3rd-5th grade, because of how mature and funny it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Hank yet???
I have purchased approximately 12-14 Hank the Cowdog Audio Tapes/CDs for...ahem...the kids. Yeah, totally for the kids. Anyway, this one is my favorite. If you are considering any Hank Audio Books, this should be your first.

We hear of Hank and Drover's adventures battling the terrible green Charlie Monsters and what happens when they come face to face with the most dreadful of realities...trapped in Sally May's KITCHEN.

All the Hank audio books have classic lines that our family is often repeating (while laughing hysterically), but this one has some of the best:
"I don't want to be a cat"
"You STOLE my BACON!"
"That will be 15 Shame-On-You's Drover"
etc.

Buy it...you'll thank me!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hank the Cowdog written by Tara
Hank the Cowdog is a good book that my classmates and I read. It is about faded love. Hank and Drover are in love with Beulah, the collie. Hank was telling Drover that Beulah is his girlfriend and not Drover's, but Beulah likes Hank only as a friend. She said, "Because the way I feel, Hank, is that we should just be special friends. I like Plato."

But Plato was looking out for birds because he a bird watcher. Later, Hank saw Miss Scamper and said, "How do you do you, lovely lady?" Hank was going from one girl to another. Then Hank wrote a song to Beulah and it went something like this, "I have the strangest dream, Beulah, my dear, I'm standing close to you and holding you near. I feel electric shock, just being close by, touching your flaxen hair and seeing you're my love. I can't stop thinking about you, Beulah." Hank rolled around on a dead skunk and went to test it out on Beulah to see if the perfume worked. The "love" perfume smelled bad because he smelled like a dead skunk and Beulah did not like the perfume. But Miss Scamper liked the perfume that Hank was wearing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Poor Little Hank and Drover
I love the Hank the Cowdog series books, especially Faded Love, because it's hilarious and cute. My classmates read each character like a play. Each person in our class used how they acted and how they sounded when they read their character. It was very funny and I loved it a lot.

Pete the Barncat is Hank's hated cat. Pete went to the ranch to talk to him that he could be the ranch security. Pete is always thinking that he is always better and that Hank is the worst Cowdog all the time. Hank can't wait to fight him, because Pete always drives Hank crazy. Hank WAS going to fight with him, but he just leaves him alone because he thinks fighting with a barncat is stupid. So Hank quit the ranch security job. On that day, he and Drover go see his sweetheart, Beulah. Drover is his best partner. Drover loves Beulah, too! But they don't know that Beulah is just cheating on Hank, and she goes out with Plato, the spotted bird dog. But when he is on his way to see Beulah, he sees this female Beagle, Miss Scamper, another sweetheart that he loves. Miss Scamper was inviting Hank and Drover to look at the sunset. Drover wants to ask Hank if he can go to see the sunset with his sweetheart, but Hank said no, because Hank doesn't want to get bothered by that noisy Drover. But Hank got kicked out by the owner in the back of the truck. Then they went to see his first sweetheart, Miss Beautiful Beulah. When they went over to her place, they see that she was smooching with her HONEY! Plato! Hank and Drover got so jealous, so they just went to see Miss Sweetheart Sexy Scamper. Then they come back to their own job. But Hank still hates Pete because PETE still thinks that he is super smart and Hank just super stupid.

I love this book, because it's funnier than the other Hank the Cowdog books, and it's more interesting than the other Hank the Cowdog books. Thank you for understanding my opinion.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jorge's Review on Hank
I think that Faded Love is a good book. It is funny and also it has lots of adventures like the other books of Hank. I read this book with my classmates. Each of my classmates had a part in the book, like a kid was Drover and the other was Hank. Hank and Drover make this oath that they would never return to the ranch, and they would quit their jobs as cowdogs.

Drover told Hank that there was a snake on the ranch. It really wasn't a snake; it was just a cat's tale, which was Pete. Pete became mad at Hank because he thought he was a snake, so Hank left with Drover. On his way he met all kinds of old friends. He also meets new friends like Miss Scamper. She is this dog that Hank meets by a lake. Miss Scamper's owner stops by the lake and puts water in his radiator. Drover and Hank fall in love with Ms. Scamper. He also meets his old friends Rip and Snort; they are coyotes.

We found out that Drover is not that dumb. Hank sings this song to Beulah (she is hank's old girl friends, which was kind of funny. Hank and Drover decided to go back to the ranch. Drover reminds Hank about the oath, but he said that there are different kinds of oaths; one is forever and others are temporary. So they went back to the ranch and they saw the real snake. It was going toward little Alfred. Hank attacked the snake and the snake beat him. Everybody now thinks Hank is a hero.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hank The Cowdog Faded Love
I thought it was a great book although I read this book for a humor bookreport and I did not think it was that funny. But other than that it really was a great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Review
I thought that this book was great, I liked the begining, the road to Bealah's, and the ending. I found interesting twists as well as funny moments. I really think that if you read this book you will like it. I have read other Hank the Cowdog books and this one is just as good. For you boys out there this book isn't about love except for very little in the end. The only thing I didn't like was the song at the end that Hank and Bealah sang. Overall I enjoyed this book. I hope you consider buying it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hank The Cow Dog Series
For readers of any age the Hank The Cow Dog series is one of the best. It will hold the attention of older struggling readers with lower abilities. Parents reading to their children will enjoy the books as much as the kids do. With wit and humor the adventures of Hank keep us turing the pages. I have not read every book in the series but I will.

Amazon should make a complete set of these available.

This is one of my favriote books it is funny and exciting. It takes the perspective of a cowdog on a ranch in east texas. That thinks he is head of ranch security and goes through a lot of hillarius storys.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kayla Pryor's review on The Wounded Buzzard on Christmas Eve
In this book a buzzard gets hurt, and he gets taken care of.Well, one day Slim,Little Alfred, Drover(the dog),and Hank(the dog)was driving to town to get Christmas presents, and a buzzard named Wallace flew into the wind shield. He got hurt pretty bad,and Little Alfred begged Slim to take him home and take care of him.Slim took him home after he went shopping, and cured him. Then Wallace flew away with his son happily ever after.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book ever!
Its about a dog who gets into a lot of adventures and mysteries and always solves them. It is a good book and is really funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great western humor for all ages
This is a book that will truly make you cry with laughter. Who ever knew that buzzards could be portrayed so humorously. Besides, you not only get the misadventures of Jr. but also his father.Throw a bachelor cowboy and two children in the mix and look out. Erikson is a master of midwestern cowboy culture and style. I live just next to Texas and people really do act and talk that way down there. This is not a farce but real. The people are also warm, kind hearted, and well intentioned as well as being, occassionally, misguided as we all are. Give this book a try. You will be glad you did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart-warming; one of the best of the Hank tapes.
Slim, Little Alfred, Hank and Drover are headed to town for Slim's last-minute Christmas shopping, and who but Wallace the Buzzard flies into the truck windshield. Wounded and out of his mind, Wallace won't make it through the night without a little help from his friends. Fortunately, Slim is a soft touch, so he agrees to nurse Wallace back to health. After putting Wallace in an empty feed bag, they all continue on their way to the mighty metropolis of Twitchell, Texas. While Slim does his Christmas shopping for Sally May and Miss Viola, Little Alfred discovers why you should never, ever let the bird out of the bag! This tape includes two of my all-time favorite songs: "My Daddy Had a Wreck Today" and "A Pox, A Pox on Emily Post!". This is a heart-warming tale, performed to perfection by the author, that you won't want to miss ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Hank's Best!!
Among his many other attributes, Hank the Cowdog has an uncanny ability to keep our entire family amused on long trips. Next to The Original Adventures of Hank The Cowdog (Vol. 1), this one is our favorite. Benny, the prize-winning cowdog-for-hire, very quickly gets under Hank's skin when he bumps Hank off the job of a roundup. Erickson's voicing of Benny is oddly reminiscent of William F. Buckley Jr., and works to great effect. Add the romantic element of Hank's love interest, Miss Beulah ("Mercy!", exclaims Hank) and the perceived threat Benny places there too, and the story becomes even more interesting. All against the regular backdrop of ranch life and supporting characters Drover, Plato, Loper and the rest of the gang, and the story is one of Hank's best romps. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hank might lose his job to a dog who comes on the ranch!
This is a great and heartwarming addition to the "Hank the Cowdog" series. Along with tons of hillarious gags, this is one of Hank's best! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Case of the Measled Cowboy
This amazing book is about two cowdogs, a family of four, and a cowboy named Slim. Hank seems to get in a lot of troublem, but it looks like nothing will get hem out of it this time. Slim's sick in bed , Alfred's destroying the house, Drover is liying in the utility room, and Hank can't do anythang about it.
To methis book has thrills, cills, and more action than you can stick on a tooth pick. This book is great for the family.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Very Funny Story
Our family likes to get Hank the Cowdog audiotapes from the library. This one is one of my favorites, probably due to the trouble Little Alfred and Hank get themselves into. My kids (ages 4, 6, 7 and 11) all enjoyed this tape tremendously. (I only gave it 4 stars because it doesn't have great educational or moral value--but it sure is hilarious!)

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a book for those people who love to laugh!
