    Book Description

After five thousand years she was again mortal.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Ooh . . . .
I read all the books in this series, but for some reason this one stuck in my mind the most; I don't know why.

Sita, after living 5,000 years as an immortal vampire, has finally reached a dream she never thought would happen; the alchemist's experiment (in book three) worked, and now she is finally a human, mortal. Maybe now, she thinks, she can finally have a daughter, possibly one like Lalita, the daughter she left the night she became a vampire. When Ray, whom she thought dead, shows up, she thinks she can finally achieve that dream, especcially when she becomes pregnant, and finds a new friend, Paula, who also happens to be pregnant. But the baby grows at an unnatural speed, the birth is painful. Sita names the child Kalika, not Lalita "she who plays" but instead "she who kills." And it seems she is right. The child grows fast, and craves blood. Sita returns to her old ways to find blood for her demanding daughter. And Ray seems so . . . different, not the old Ray who cringed at the sight of blood, now he tries to make sure Sita is feeding their daughter.

When Kalika is physically twenty, Sita slowly begins to understand who her daughter is. And just what Kalika wants with Paula's child, the strange boy with pale blue eyes whose blood has the power to heal . . .

I know that most people say this book isn't as good as the rest, but I think it is. It just stuck in my mind, and I've read it over and over. It is good, but is a little confusing at parts. But, read it if you've read the first three.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Last Vampire 4: The Phantom
I really liked this series, and this book was one of the highlights in reading the whole series. I didn't read the series in the order that you are supposed to. I read the third book first then the first then the fourth then the second then the fifth and the sixth. I enjoyed this particular book in the series because it had more of a twist to it and a huge change in events. I loved the way that she wasn't a vampire anymore and that she had a little girl. I liked the way that it sort of cut off at the end but not in an incomplete way. It was just kind of more like a story that when it ended lkeft it at a point where there could be another book. I also enjoyed how Christopher Pike made Kalika something other human. That was my favorite part of the book. I like how he makes special women in his books. The book is like a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat not wanting to miss a single line. Instead you just wish that you read faster so that you could read what was going to happen next sooner. I thought that it was great, and it left me dying to read more.

3-0 out of 5 stars I felt this was the downfall of the series
I stated in a review of one of the other books that the books, in my opinion, got dumber with each one. This I feel is the downfall of the series. Its interesting in a sense, yet not entirely. The only kicker I find to this book (that prevented me from giving it 2 stars) was the ending when it is revealed what the child is.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, yet confusing
This book was great, except i didn't read the first 3, since they weren't in the library. This made the book confusing, but i still read it & couldn't put the book down, till i finished. I hope i can read the others, real soon. Plus I am a huge fan of PIKE'S. He is an inspiration to me & i hope someday I too can follow in the same direction, but not the exact same path as him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This is book #4 in the vampire series. I own all of them as well as the collectors editions. I would highly recommend these to all readers of Christoper Pike as well as readers who have any fascination with the supernatural. Christopher Pike has really written a keeper here. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love the book-
This book was great I never knew what was to happen next and better yet who would win the battle. I think Christopher Pike did a great job with this and his series. He made a book just how I like one not always rushing to an ending, he made it into another book. I suggest anyone who likes horror mixed with action to read this book and don't rush! My opinion to this book is a great one and a thank-you to Christopher Pike. Any one else who has read this book would probably agree to just about all my words. Now I tell about the characters and the plot of the story. The to main characters are Alisa, a five thousand year old vampire who is going against her very own daughter to stop her from getting her best friend's baby Christ. Alisa can't believe it herself that the world has now a new Missiah. So now Alisa tries best with her power to try and stop her daughter from killing the new Missiah. However, to do this Alisa gets help from a group to help shoot down Kalika. The great thing about that is that it is a war against to equally as powered beings one with knowledge and one with strength.

I know that this book is the best chose for horror and fantasy because has some really gruesome stuff. This book is great for readers at an average reading level and you must read # 4 before #5. If you read this review please read the book, because it only gets better. I hope I gave enough information to be interested in this book

5-0 out of 5 stars Christopher Pike is still the best ever!!!
I started reading Christopher Pike books in the summer before i started 6th grade because I got them as hand me downs from a friend. I started off with Fall into Darkness and right now i have 25 of his books and still collecting and i love every single one of them and ive read them over and over. Last Vampire 5 was the rarest book of the series and it took me 4 months to find it! I got it thanx to Amazon for used yay lol I read the book and it was so gripping how everything balances off another and you know everything from the book before. Never read the last vampire series out of order that would totally mess them up read them 1-6 and you'll go crazy over them! Im a really crazy freak I'll admit it like when i see someone reading it ill immediately jump on it and tell the person stuff to get them interested into christopher pike. I dont even know if christopher pike is still writing or when his last book was but hes still my favorite author ever. Not only do I love his books but they have been helping me write a book of my own because i pretty much have always wanted to be a writer and my friends have told me I would be great for it and thanx to christopher pike i think Im going to chase that dream!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Vampire 5
The Last Vampire 5 is an excellent book. It can be grusome at times, but that is what makes it a good book. Buy it or you will regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing Is As It Seems
Loved this book. This book sparked my favorite quote and motto. It is simply profound. The agony of fufilling one's purpose without outside thought interferring with one's ego, is hard! It's also a good read. Sita and Kalika are classic characters. My favorite book in the series.

3-0 out of 5 stars I was confused at some points
I read this book in like 2 days, but got confused between the flash backs and the present day. Once again, super natural being from the past (Egypt God or something like that who is really an alien or something) that she thought she killed (first rule of killing, unless the head comes off the body, it's alive. Then destroy the body to be sure. Then destroy the atoms of the body.) is back and terrorizing people and killing, blah blah blah. Her daughter is supposedly the only hope or something and gets ripped apart by this God/Alien thing. What I find interesting is if the super child of Sita gets the smack down Bruce Lee style, how did Sita defeat the thing to begin with thousands of years ago. Aww well. Maybe it was explained and because I was so bored, I didn't see it. By the time I got to this book I was just reading the series (and flipped to the last page hoping it would be the last book only to scream that it wasn't) because I hate starting a book series and not reading all of it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Avid Reader & Reviewer
In 2022, the world as we know it comes to an end. With the introduction of the Kurians and their deadly Reapers, mankind reverts to its roots. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there and no one is safe from the Reapers. Each Kurian lord controls a group of Reapers, a vampire-like being that kills by absorbing a person's life force or aura. The Kurians use the auras that the Reapers steal as a means to achieve immortality. Humankind is now a farm animal for the Kurians. Hope is not lost. Lifewavers, enemies of the Kurians, have come to Earth to recruit humanity to fight their war with the Kurians. The Lifeweavers have a process of enhancement for humans referred to as "turning up the volume." These enhancements give humanity the ability to fight back and reclaim Earth.

Choice of the Cat is E.E. Knight's second book in the Vampire Earth series. The book opens with Lt. David Valentine commanding a group of Wolves, a military designation for his unit, on a reconnaissance mission. Valentine has gained a great deal of maturity since Way of the Wolf. The young man, part Sioux, with a chip on his shoulder struggles to make a difference. Valentine has become a true officer who puts his men first. No one, not even the commanding officer, is going to use Valentine's men as cannon fodder. Of course, this attitude is not conducive to advancement with Southern Command or with his commanding officer.

With the help of Alessa Duvalier, a Cat or spy, Valentine embarks on a new journey. From the Ozarks to Denver with a final showdown in Omaha, a city devastated by nuclear war, Valentine and Duvalier set out to find the Twisted Cross. Valentine will need all his skills as a warrior and his innate ability to sense Reapers to survive.

Choice of the Cat is not burdened with the creation of the Vampire Earth world introduced in Way of the Wolf. Action starts immediately and does not stop until the last line of the book. In Way of the Wolf, Valentine started on a journey originated by his father. The young man comes into his own in Choice of the Cat. Valentine is a killing machine with a conscience and a moral identity. He will not leave anyone behind, no matter what the cost to himself. Through all the betrayals of his fellow man, David Valentine is able to be a true hero. I found myself rooting for him on page one.

The episodic nature of this series reminds me of anime. Each twist in the plot deepens our understanding of Valentine and his world. This world created by E.E. Knight will be the source for many more adventures to come and many hours of enjoyable reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't Wait For The Next One
What can I say about this book that hasn't been said yet?

E.E. Knight fleshes out a hero that you aren't forced to like, but are helpless not to.

David Valentine is human, he's got his faults and he has his doubts. He questions himself constantly. The thing is...he has this unending resolve to do the 'right thing' that keep him going and keep us flipping the pages to see how he acts.

I actually kind of prefer the transformation to the Cat better than the Wolf myself, it allows for a lot more options and solo missions. Hopefully we'll be treated to more of his part of David's "evolution". (I think of the Cats more as Ninjas or Samurais as the Wolf class would be closer to the Native American warriors from the Frontier Days. I'm interested to see if the Bear class will be compared to.)

I picked the first book up because the cover looked cool (seriously!) but I can honestly say that if the books stay at this quality of writing, I will stick with it to the end.

Can't wait for the next one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Vampire Earth developing into a good series
Choice of the Cat, the second book by EE Knight in the Vampire Earth series continues the development of David Valentine as he continues his crusade against the ruling Kurians and the Twisted Cross.

I enjoyed the book as the writing and dialogue moved well and the battle scenes are descriptive and flowing. Certain plot points resolve too quickly and neat, but on the whole the story does well in keeping the reader involved and interested.

I was really intrigued by the change and gain of almost superhero powers that Valentine undergoes to become a "Cat".

Knight does not pull any punches and his world is grim and savage where strength and brutality rule the day. Characters bleed, die, and are beset by doubts.

It's been an interesting series so far and I would recommend this book. The best compliment I can give is that I wish it had been 100 pages longer.

It's going to be interesting how and when Knight makes Valentine into a Bear. I hope not soon as I can see more books in this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Second Effort Keeps Cookin'
Just enough rehash to leave a pleasant aftertaste. Add a liberal amount of Western to the plethora of genres he's already expertly encompassed. Stir it up with a sassy Cat and a golden Grog. Boil it over gun-totin' Reapers led by a Nazi-esque General and you won't be able to stop eating it up.

E.E. Knight's second in the saga of David Valentine keeps up the pace of heart-pounding action, charismatic characterization and perspicacious plotting so prevalent in his first book. I could elaborate on the storyline, but I won't deprive you of the pleasure of reading it yourself.

Once again, E.E. Knight has shone like a new blade with his inimitable style.

5-0 out of 5 stars Way of the Wolf was great; Choice of the Cat is even better
Way of the Wolf was a bold, exciting beginning to what is definitely shaping up to be an innovative, compelling dark fantasy series from the pen of E.E. Knight. Choice of the Cat takes the heroic journey of protagonist David Valentine in an entirely new direction, one conducive to even more suspenseful action than before. Many a young writer finds it difficult to recreate the magic of a successful first novel, but E.E. Knight has come through with an impressive follow-up sure to delight all fans of dark fantasy and hair-raising heroic adventure.

The setting for The Vampire Earth series is a post-apocalyptic earth of the mid- to late-twenty-first century. Back in 2022, up to 90% of the human population perished as a result of the terrible Ravies plague, but this was just the beginning of Earth's struggle. The Kur, an alien civilization made up of vampiric creatures who feed on the life aura of others, quickly subjugated large portions of the earth. The Kur's most deadly weapons are the Reapers, terrifying, alien beasts through whom the Kur absorb the auras of their victims. Three types of human beings emerged from the apocalypse: those who betray their species and assist the Kur, those who are outwardly ambivalent to the Kur and just try to stay out of trouble, and those willing to fight and die for humanity. David Valentine is one of the latter. After the massacre of his family, the young boy went on to follow in his father's footsteps by becoming a Wolf, a member of the military first line of defense of the Ozark Free Zone. As this novel opens, Valentine is assigned to a new unit of soldiers and forced to hold off an enemy attack on orders of his superior officer; when that officer is injured, command falls to Valentine, who oversees a retreat by his outnumbered men based on his own informed decision and the intelligence he receives from a Cat (a warrior spy). Much to Valentine's (and my own) surprise, he soon finds himself facing a court-martial for disobeying orders. A tough choice between leaving the Wolves and staying to fight the military justice system is made a good bit easier when the Cat he met in battle offers him a chance to become a Cat himself.

Soon, Valentine is off to partake of some incredibly demanding training with his mentor Alessa Duvalier (code name: Smoke) as well as an intense initiation into the order; this induction into the Cats increases his senses and abilities many times over. For some time, Valentine has been deeply interested in a mysterious group of enemies identified by a Twisted Cross, but his reports and inquiries have not seemed to generate much attention in Southern Command. His first mission as a Cat, working alongside his new mentor and friend, involves going into the Kurian zone and gathering intelligence on this seemingly specialized group of enemies. Before he's done, he gets an up-close and personal look at the whole nefarious organization.

There is a great deal of action in this novel. Whereas Wolves act in concert with one another, Cats basically work alone (unless they are training a new recruit such as Valentine). Valentine has always been a fighter, and there is still a good bit of Wolf left in this young Cat; even though his mission is to listen and learn, he cannot abandon innocents when he thinks he can save them. There are lots of skirmishes and one humdinger of a fight before the novel draws to a close, and the addition of the most unlikely of allies further energizes this gripping story about two-thirds of the way through. This novel does end, but I feel as if the writer has just taken a moment to catch his breath, and I eagerly await the chance to sink my teeth into Book 3 of The Vampire Earth series when it is published.

Don't let the word Vampire in the book series name throw you; this is in no way a "vampire novel," for the Kur are unlike any vampires you have ever encountered. Knight is adept at creating living, breathing characters that will captivate your spirit and engulf you in their dangerous and heroic feats. This is a unique and wonderfully entertaining novel that truly delivers while promising even greater things to come. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings about the ending
I started reading The Last Vampire series when it first came out, and I remember checking the bookstore everytime the next installment was going to be available! Although I'm an adult now (although I was wee a preteen when the series started), I've still reread most of the installments. It's truly amazing how Pike manages to flesh out such a complete characterization. Talk about exposition.

Another amazing thing is how each installment ties in so fluidly with each other and yet they stand alone with their own plot, be it her story with Ray or Joel, or her daughter. I do have to say my preference is with the first three, although all were wonderful. I'm just a sucker for the love stories, and the tragedy that comes with it, of course.

I haven't reread this one, Creatures of Forever, in awhile, but I was a bit disappointed at the end. Although it was a very well-written book (although completely obscure at this point unless you've read the entire series, which you should anyway...) I wished it wouldn't have ended the way it did. I don't want to give it away, but I did get the feeling of "she went through all of this then for what?" I wish the last paragraph was left out, basically. Pike probably ended it the way he did because it was the only way *to* end the series without being tempted to continue on. Still, it's great escapism. If you're a young woman, you will identify with Sita, and it's incredibly easy to imagine yourself in her situation.

I love the wit and humor Pike uses. It's very unlike a "YA novel" since most, like R.L. Stine, seem completely ludicrous (dialogue, especially) when you read them over the age of 15. Pike, on the other hand, doesn't pander to the lowest (or youngest) common denominator; the writing is every bit as good as any "adult" novel I've read.

You might be disappointed after reading this, if only because you'll wish there were more to the series. I can't believe they haven't adapted this to a movie or tv series, especially with the success of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (which I highly recommend if you enjoy this genre).

    5-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable!!! A definate 10!!!
Of all the books I've read, this one probably makes me think the most, but then all of Mr. Pike's books make me think. I agree with Mr. Pike when he says that me believes Sita herself wrote the story and not him. Although you are a talented author, I don't see how you could have come up with so many different twists in this book, but then what do I know?

I cried at the end of this book, like I did with Evil Thirst. Mr. Pike made me question everything I believe in. And I thank him for that. I would like to see another author try and make a believable character as well as Mr. Pike did. I doubt it will ever be done. Sita seems so much a part of life, that you would expect to find her if you looked for her. But I think there is a little bit of her in most people, because she shows human nature: which is to fear and hate what it does not understand. I wish this series was made into a movie, so that we could really see Sita.

    5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars :-)
I love the last vampire series, they are the best books ive ever read. the ending was so good and it made me kind of sad and happy at the same time. the characters were so real and i love the unusual names... sita, lalita and kalika. i love these books and i could read them over and over :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I thought that Pike couldn't have written it better. The whole damn series was absolutley amazing. I loved the ending....even though it was sad. It just closed up the series even though I wished he would have made a 7th and 8th and so on......Thank you Pike for writing these books! I really wish I could hear more adventures of Sita though :(

3-0 out of 5 stars Took me almost 5 years to read this...
I first got hold of this book when I was 13, and did not bother reading it cover to cover until I was 17. I had read the first few chapters of the book and got bored because it got too super natural (hard to believe when its about vampires right?) and returned it to my friend, only to buy it years later. The only thing I liked about the book was the ending, which was kind of sad and depressing, like life. It made you think about stuff in life and all. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Mystery Book!!!!!
This book is about a boy named Jerry and his sister, Terri. They're visiting their aunt and uncle who live next to a cemetery and a beach with a creepy cave. Unfortunatly, Terri likes to explore cemeteries and caves. So Jerry gets to spend his vacation rubbing gravestones and checking out that creepy cave on the beach. But on the way they run into three kids who say that the cave is haunted and extremely dangerous. Jerry and Terri don't believe these kids and check it out to see if it really is dangerous. But they would have been better off if they had just listened.

Lewis always dreamed of living in an old house full ofsecret passageways, hidden rooms, and big marble fireplaces. Andsuddenly, after the death of his parents, he finds himself in justsuch a mansion--his Uncle Jonathan's. When he discovers that hisbig friendly uncle is also a wizard, Lewis has a hard time keepinghimself from jumping up and down in his seat. Unfortunately, whatLewis doesn't bank on is the fact that the previous owner of themansion was also a wizard--but an evil one who has placed atick-tocking clock somewhere in the bowels of the house, marking offthe minutes until the end of the world. And when Lewisaccidentally awakens the dead on Halloween night, the clock onlyticks louder and faster. Doomsday draws near--unless Lewis can stop the clock!

This is a deliciously chilling tale, with healthy doses of humorand compassion thrown in for good measure. Edward Gorey'sunmistakable pen and ink style (as seen in many picture books, including TheShrinking of Treehorn and Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats) perfectly complementsJohn Bellairs's wry, touching story of a lonely boy, his quirkyuncle, and the ghost of mansions past. 5-0 out of 5 stars My all time favorite book, because.....
..Lewis, the main character in the book, is FAT....just like me bhwahahhahaha. Seriously, i adore this book ever since i read it awhile back ago. It scare me alot like no other book ever did. I had nightmare where a clock is ticking inside the house and i was chubby Lewis, trying to find a way to save the world from destruction. I think i hid under the bed in my nightmares but that is another story. I saw the made for saturday movie based on the book but it was nowhere as scary. Read the book and be forewarn... it will scare you senseless. I am scared just by thinking about it.

John Bellairs knows how to write a good scarefest with exact detail and heartfelt suspense. I have read his other books on the Lewis saga and enjoy every one but this one started it all. Check out Edward Gorey's illustration...this guy is good!

    Well that's enough...now give it a read....and be terrified!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A "timeless" story!
I first became acquainted with "The House With a Clock in Its Walls" around the age of eight. It was made into a kids' TV show (an "After School Special", perhaps? I don't remember), and I immediately checked the book out from the library. Over the years I read several other of Bellairs' books, but my favorites were always the books linked with (and continuing the story of) "The House With A Clock In Its Walls". The stories were especially fascinating for me, as they all took place in Michigan, my home state (in fact, "The Letter, The Witch, and The Ring" - book three of the series - takes place in no small part near Petoskey, Michigan, which is only 25 miles from my hometown). When I was in college, I found that the college bookstore had some copies of T.H.W.A.C.I.I.W. for sale, so I bought one. I found the story was just as enjoyable then as it had been 16 years before. I'm now 27, and I STILL enjoy these books! These are truly stories for young and old alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bellairs' Best
It was his first Gothic chiller for the younguns, and was his best.

Orphan Lewis Barnavelt moves to the town of New Zebedee, MI, to live with his uncle Jonathan, only to find himself in the middle of eerie goings on. Why does his uncle behave so oddly? Why do things change around the house? Why does the front hall mirror show images of faraway places? And...what is the reason for the ticking sound heard in the walls of the old Victorian mansion they live in?

All this is contrasted with some of the everyday problems that Lewis faces. He's a fat, bookish kid who's no good at sports and also fairly depressed, so of course he worries about bullies and about making friends.

Supernatural chills abound as Lewis discovers that his uncle is a wizard (although not a very powerful one) and that another, evil wizard is using the clock for a nefarious purpose. The story ends happily and has a good message about courage.

Bellairs maintains just the right balance between scares and whimsy in this terrific little book, great for middle readers and for adults looking for an afternoon's amusement. I would like to see the return of the original Edward Gorey cover, but his illustrations are still there and are sublime.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my childhood favorites
Lots of reviews here recount the plot, so I'll skip that.

This book is great fun for younguns who enjoy a good eerie tale. I first read this about 1978 and enjoy revisiting it every so often. Lewis is a great character, smart but also emotional and prone to making bad decisions. He's also fat, bookish and not good at sports although he keeps trying and trying. His Uncle Jonathan is a great parental figure, loving, nonjudgemental but also seemingly baffled sometimes by dealing with his nephew, someone who's a lot like him.

The plot is full of chills and thrills. It does amble somewhat and there are lots of scenes that have nothing or little to do with the main storyline, but this book is also a primer for Bellair's world of wizards and supernatural chills.

The book has a good message about courage that lots of kids like Lewis would benefit from hearing. It helped me as a bookish kid who was no good at sports (although I wasn't fat...that waited until I was an adult!). The writing is brisk and Bellairs is a master of atmosphere. He creates a great feel for the old house and the town of New Zebedee.

As an adult, I enjoy this book immensely, and highly recommend it to kids. Parents whose kids enjoy a good chill may enjoy sharing it with them. Kids who enjoy Harry Potter are likely to enjoy this as well. Bellairs' books are basically gothic horror for the younger set, and this was his first in that genre and his best.

P.S. Hollywood, if you're reading...these books would make great movies, or maybe a TV series!

4-0 out of 5 stars THE HOSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best in the series
Finding themselves lost on a trip to Zoo Gardens Theme Park, Lizzy and Luke, their parents and their friend Clay end up at Horror Land. Things start to go wrong from the moment they arrive. First the car explodes leaving them stranded in a theme park with a group of monsters whose costumes look strangely real. Then there are the actual rides. At first Lizzy, Luke and Clay think they're pretty cool, and then they start to get scary. The house of mirrors, the doom-slide, the terrifying ride in a coffin. Soon Lizzy and the others are wondering if they will ever be able to leave Horror Land alive....

This was one of my favourite Goosebumps books. I read this four years ago when I was eight and loved it. It mixes comedy and suspense and adds several twists along the way. I recommend it to all fans of the series and nine to twelve year olds particularly.

4-0 out of 5 stars One day at HorrorLand
I think the book Horrorland was a good book, because for one this was a very interesting book and for two it had a lot of action for the ones who like action books. The book Horrorland was about two kids that survive a night at Horror Land. The students really were to attend a Theme park called Wet Willy's, but when the theme park was closed they turned back around to go home and on there way back they saw another theme park that they hadn't saw on there way there. They entered the mysterious park with extreme cautions. The people there seemed very nice. Then the little boy stopped at a ride, he slid down the slide and stayed on forever... I would highly request that you read this book to my peers.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Enter if you dare...."
I was addicted to these books when I was younger and it wasn't until I was majoring in education in college that I figured out why. They were interesting with bizarre plot twists that most 9-12 year olds don't think about and they were short (usually between 110-130 pages). I could read the whole thing in a day.

My parents also didn't have a lot of heartache with buying me a new book because these are relatively inexpensive (in the neighborhood of 3-5 bucks each).

R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" books aren't scary, just kind of creepy. There aren't graphic descriptions of murder and mayhem. Just some ghosts, werewolves, or potions. The main character is alive in the end, and the final chapter resolves everything.

**Keep in mind, R.L. Stine has other books that aren't in the "Goosebumps" series that tend to be a little harsher when it comes to hauntings and plot. They are written more for the 12-14 age group and are longer (around 150-200 pages).

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots Of Scares...
When this book was originally released, I was in my early teens. I read it and loved it and this is the book in the series that made me start collecting the others. This is the scariest goosebump book stine ever wrote. Start your collection here!

Lizzy and her family got lost looking for zoo gardens. but that's okay, they found horrorland. it seems pretty cool. but that was before the deadly doom slide, the house of mirrors, the freaky mummy in the valley of the lost kings, the sour bat barn, and the coffin cruise.

Ok, ok, so I am a bit old to be reading such books. . .But I thought it would be interesting to look back at some of the books I used to read back in the day. To my surprise, I found this book! Say Cheese and Die! is one of my favorite scary books of all time. Initially, I had read this book because I loved the picture! Still do. . .Anyways, It is about a boy named Greg who obtains a camera, though kind of an old camera, and takes pictures with it! (obviously!) But it appears the camera is broke. It doesn't show everybody in the picture! What's up with that? Greg soon unveils a haunting revelation which may put his own life in harms way! How can he convince others that this camera is more than just broken--it's EVIL!?

This is a fun book to read and I would recommend it to all middle schoolers! Of course, if you really enjoy a good horror, by all means read it regardless of age! Well, I did, anyways. ;)

5-0 out of 5 stars My very own book
The author of this book is R.L Stine. He is very knowned to all young readers. His books are about mystery and mysterious things. I read this book and I thought that it was very instersting. It was about a group of kids that found a camera and as soon as they started to take pictures things started to happen. It's kinda scary the first time you read it. You would think how could these kids not see what is going on until the end. It's very exciting and you would enjoy this book so whenever you get a chance and go and pick up this great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Haunted Camera?
This book was a really good GOOSBUMPS book. It really makes you wonder if you take a picture and it devolpes funny, it will become true! For example, taking a picture of your friend and your friends not in it, or taking a picture of your dad's new car and it's trashed the very next second! This book was fun to read and I read in a day. I recommend to R.L. Stine fans and everybody who's looking for a good scream!

5-0 out of 5 stars SAY CHEESE AND DIE
I really liked SAY CHEESE AND DIE because R.L.STINE explained the setting and the characters very very well. He goes unto great details in the characters apperence and personality's. They had me tied up in the story. He gave the characters a bluvible personalaty for each part of the book.

I think the best part of the book was when spidy trapes grege and sharie in the basement of the coulmen house. Grege and sharie go to the coulmen house and put the camera back in the sevcret compartment in the basement.Spidy catches then in the basement and said ''You know too much to leave''.

I think the best story elements are character and conflict.Character is the best Icould say about how he acted out each character in the book. Conflict is the other one Ithought was a great one he did.He explains each detail of each problem that arrose in the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars SAY CHEESE AND DIE
    Say Cheese And Die

Who won't like a book about an evil camera that does bad things? After reading this book you will have to sleep with a night light on. I would recommend this book to all Goosebumps fans. It is a Fantastic book from R.L.Stine and it is his fourth Goosebumps book.

Say Cheese And Die is about a boy named Greg you finds an old camera in an abandoned old house. But bad things start happening his dad gets in an accident his friend Michael falls down the stairs and his friend Shari disappears. Also a man named Spidey is stalking Greg to get the camera back. This book will leave chills and thrills down your spine. I think part of the reason this book is good is because it has a good author, the author R.L. Stine.

It has a lot of action like the scene when it was Greg and Shari vs. Spidey. It has mystery like the scene on where they where searching for Shari when she disappeared. And it has horror though the whole book. So I hope you read this fascinating book Say Cheese And Die.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Vampire: The BEST Vampire Book... Ever?
Vampires. Creatures of the Night--those groovy ghoulies you love to hate, sexy and silent killers, stars of film and literature... There is so much mythology surrounding the vampire that it is indeed a unique thing to be struck with something new. I have read scores of books on the subject, some good, some great. There are however many more trite than creative stories--more predictable ones than original. This is the reason why I was so impressed with Christopher Pike's "The Last Vampire." Not only does it manage to give you a compelling and gripping story with characters that are both real and complex--it's actually refreshing. A refreshing story about vampires. And you thought it was all corpses and cobwebs!

Alisa Perne isn't new to the vampire scene, having lived it for over five thousand years. She is fleet and strong, has the keenest senses imaginable--and she's a babe. The stories you've heard about vampires? Well, some are true; most are false. Sunlight hardly effects her. She wears a crucifix as jewelry. Garlic, holy water, coffins? Stories concocted to make us feel secure. Of course, how would we feel if we knew there was nothing we could do to protect ourselves--that these terrifying creatures were real and stronger than we'd ever imagined?

Of course, vampires have problems too. There is the pesky business of keeping your identity hidden. Amazing powers aside--if the whole world knew the truth, it would be tough to do anything but hide in a cave for a few centuries. Or, you could just kill everybody. But then you come to the human factor. You used to be one, and somewhere there's still a little bit left. Some feeling, love even. It's tough to watch those you love die all around you--especially at your own hands. But the need for blood is always there. You can only prolong the inevitable. Alisa knows this all too well.

When a human detective appears with strange questions about her background--Alisa is cautious. Who is this man, and how much does he know? Has he told others? Though not a mind-reader, she knows the answers to these questions. His body, sweat, breath--they tell her everything. Someone else knows. But who?

A few decisions and swift actions later, a life is ended... and new questions begin to form. An intricate knot of time and mystery begins to loosen. New dangers will confront her--make her question everything she's learned and everything she is. New faces will torment her--filter her perception, change her resolve. It has been many centuries since she felt the emotions she will feel...

I've visited many Pike shrines and websites that claim "The Last Vampire" is one of his best--and I couldn't agree more. There is so much to say positively about this book I couldn't possibly write it all. The praise you've heard is deserving. Now, it has won my acclaim.

This book has EVERYTHING. The action is artfully played and exciting! Alisa is an expert fighter, faster and more cunning than any predator. Her prowess is uncanny; her grace trancends the page. She ceases to be a character in a book, and breathes a life of her own. Pike's story flows like water--you can easily visualize what is happening, and it looks so damn cool! It is marvelously violent, and quite bloody--though it (thankfully) refrains from droning on and on about the exquisite pleasures of gorging on young blood... Sorry, Anne Rice, we mortals can't relate--and quite frankly, you're boring us. We understand what we always have: what it feels like to love, to lose, to fear, to hate. Alisa is delightfully human, in her capacity for all these things. Her pain is real, and her dilemma is an arduous one. As far as I am concerned, this is the ONLY EXAMPLE IN WRITTEN HISTORY of the origin of vampires being explained in a fashion both comprehensible and believable. "And Jesus wept" I believe was the next line. The inclusion of Indian mythology and folklore adds a spicy aroma to this already exotic and inticing dish.

This, Pikefans, is a book you cannot miss. The sexy vampire bombshell and her lover are attractively depicted on the cover, bordered by the garish yet charming neon font we've all come to love. Delicious artwork by all-time personal and Pike-favorite, the irrepressible Brian Kotzky. Even if vampires aren't really your thing, it is one of the best examples of his work I have ever read. Truly Christopher Pike at his finest. Buy it now and avoid the nasty discomfort of being the only fan left out of the loop. Followed by five more books. Next on the list--"The Last Vampire 2: Black Blood." Bring it on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pike's greatest yet,I recommend it to everyone.
This is an edge of your seat action, mystery, suspense, thriller about Alisa, a 5,000 year old vampire finding out that an unknown someone or something stalking her,and the measures she takes to prevent it.She soon meets Ray, the son of the man she killed in self-defense and he attracts her like no mortal has in ceturies. This is without a question Pikes most exellent book.I am just starting the series so I can't tell you if the rest of the series is equally as wonderful as this one,but I can tell you that I could not stop reading this until the end.I recommend this to every one! I hope Mr. Pike continues to write more of The Last Vampire Series, and seriously considers to make this series along with the Chain Letter and the Remember Me Series into movies. This is a must read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't put it down till the end!!
The Last Vampire is a truly addictive book you will love. Once you read the first page you won't stop. Sita is 5000 yrs. old and yet she still has human emotions even though she is almost invincible. The characters are vivid and well written. And the book does have some graphic moments, but it is totally necessary to the book. It has a great surprise ending. All people should read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Man this brings back memories
I remember when this book first came out when I was in like the 5th or 6th grade. Hmm...5th, cause I remember in the 6th I did a report on the second book. Anyhoo, I found the book at a grocery store and at the time I thought Christopher Pike books were only for girls, dunno why, so I never read it in school. Me and my best friend read this book and I absolutely loved it. Its very interesting, though somewhat graphic. At the time I never thought it would span across 6 books and the final one wouldn't come out until I was in the 8th grade. However, one thing I noticed was that each book got dumber than the previous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent! Awe-Inspiring! Brilliant!
This is by far the most brilliant book I have ever read. Knowing that vampires are not what they are, like most books tell made me impress with this book. I'm disgusted with the lie that vampires have something in common with coffins, crucifix, garlic.. etc. Most of that I belive is not true. Anne Rice's bores me, Bram Stoker's disgust me. A very good start with a very impressive ending. Magnificent plot. Intriuging facts!

Ahh the memories althuogh Im older now I still remember this as one of my favorite books. This is the one book in this series with the best cover art genuinly creepy. The story is great and Billy the main character is very good and very strong. The story is great and the twist ending is awesome good for a kids book. This sort of reminds me of the film Friday the 13th which is also scary

2-0 out of 5 stars Good at first, horrible at last
This is about a boy named Billy who goes to Camp Nightmoon. He thinks it's pretty good. But then one night Billy's friend Jay comes back saying a monster named Sabre got Roger. After that, every time someone goes on a hike or event, someone disappers. Then Billy thinks hes got to get out of Camp Nightmoon.Very BAD and Cheesy ending. You've wasting your time if you read this book. The Tv Episode is much better than the book.I strongly reccomend you see the episode.I'm dissapointed with R.L. Stine on this book.If you like Goosebumps, you should read these books,Calling All Creeps,Beware The Snowman,It Came From Beneath The Sink or Goosebumps Series 2000 book Earth Geeks Must Go!

In "Welcome to Camp Nightmare," 12-year-old Billy is sent to an all boys' summer camp called Camp Nightmoon, a.k.a. Camp Nightmare. Here the woods are full of dangers, and the adults offer no real help or protection. So when, one by one, Billy's bunk mates start disappearing, he can only assume that he'll be next.

"Welcome to Camp Nightmare" is a fast-paced horror story, due in part to Stine's effective end-of-chapter cliffhangers. I was a little disappointed by the ending, though, but this is still a good book for 8 - 12-year-old Goosebumps fans. It's ideal summer camp reading, but only if you like to be scared.

4-0 out of 5 stars welcome to camp nightmare
In this particuler book the begging is great but the end kind of drags, but im not saying you shouldn't read it its still a great book!

2-0 out of 5 stars Cute, But Not One of Stine's Better Books
There isn't really a whole lot to say about this book. A couple of kids discover a vicious supernatural sponge undeneath their sink and have a run of bad luck until they love the Grool to death. Cute, goofy, and a good read for a kid, but I have seen Stine do much better than this before.

3-0 out of 5 stars Goosebumps, yeah right!
Goose bumps, It Came from under the sink! by R.L. Stine is about two siblings named Katherine nicknamed "Kat"and her little brother Daniel. They find a mysterious, mythical creature under the sink in their new house. They find out it is called a grool and that it gives the owner bad luck. They found that information in the Encyclopedia of the Weird and question it's authenticity. They later get suspicious after suddenly a lot of bad things happen to them and have less doubt of it being true.
I enjoyed the book although some parts were really not that scary at all. It was pretty hard to picture some of the things in the book like the grool or lanx which is another mythical creature. If you like really scary books, then this book might not be the typical R.L. Stine book that you would expect. The reason I would recommend this book is because it gives you a break from the pretty scary parts and gets you to relax and get back into reality for a bit. I like mystery books because you don't know what is going to happen next.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but not his best
This book was okay, but if you're a Goosebumps fan like me, you know you can get better stories with the other books. Say, The Horror at Camp Jellyjam or Stay out of the Basement would be great books to buy. 'Cause this one just isn't scary. It just isn't. Okay, maybe it would be scary to you if you found a mutant sponge under the sink, but believe, me YOU ARE NOT IN FOR A SCARE. I reccomend that you go out and buy other Goosebumps books that have good reviews. Who knows, maybe I'll be there. But I'm just warning you that this isn' scary at all- it's got it's funny parts.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as you would think
I really adore R.L. Stine but this book didn't intrigue me. The beginning was mediocre, the middle of the book was a little interesting. But the end was horrendously terrible. I felt this was a waste of my time and my money, sorry.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Grool? That's new!
I like R.L Stine books because he leaves us hanging from a cliff at the end. He always writes stories that have never been thought up before. The Grool could not be destroyed by force or violence but Kat thought about it and found a way to destroy it. It wasn't very new that monsters be destroyed by love and kindness but it can't all be new! He did a great job and this book is really worth buying! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a real exciting adventure
This book is about a kid named Billy, and his sister Sheena. They live on the ocean on a boat. Billy's uncle, Dr. D, is an Oceanographer. He studies the sea. Billy and Sheena go scuba diving to study underwater life, and find new discoveries. They find a lot. Billy even came face to face with a hammerhead shark! One day they found a mermaid. The most amazing discovery in history. Everyone fights over the mermaid because she is worth a lot of money. If you like a really exciting book with lots of action then you would want to read Goosebumps. I thought this was a great book! Iwould give it five stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Just when you thought it was safe..."

3-0 out of 5 stars good only for kids about 8-11
the book maybe enticing to young kids but compared to great pieces by the authors shakespeare, lois lowry, louis sachar, and avi. I read the book about 3 times when i was young. It was ok. nothing scary, but it would make a great movie. i suggest you get it from the library instead of buying it because it WILL get boring.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tyler's review of this book.
This book is the 2nd best book I have ever read. Just by looking at the cover I knew it would be good. If you ever read this book, write a review.

4-0 out of 5 stars Deep Trouble
Ever since I was little I loved water. The reason I read this book was because I read deep Trouble 2 first ,so I decided to go ahead and read the fist one.I started reading it and loved it.I can't tell you what happens in the book like the other reviews I read because I'd ruin the story. You'll just have to read it to find out ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Pike's Best Work
I have read "The Last Vampire" series literally 100 times. My book is practically in shreads from reading it so much. I love this series so much, and it's impossible to put this book down. Pike is able to make a fictional character like a vampire and make her a real person. It is very easy to relate to Sita. She is virtually the last of her kind; alone. Everyone has felt different or lonely at some point in their life. But Sita makes us laugh; I especially love the metaphors that she uses to describe things. She can sound overly dramatic at times, but she also shares her tremendous wit with us. It is also very cool how Pike can make a person, a vampire, who has done some horrific things in her life, become an empathetic character. Truely, by the end of the first chapter, you will love Sita's character and will not be able to put the book down. "The Last Vampire" series is the best of Pike's page turning thrillers.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Vampire, Christopher Pike
This book was fantastic....I first read it when I was a lot younger, and of all the books I remember, this was toward the top of the list! I just started rereading, and I'm hooked yet again. It's intriguing, and keeps you wondering what will happen next. Sita is a likeable character, with incredible depth. She's portrayed as a confident, intellectual woman of experience, a rare find in novels, especially since it puts the blond, blue eyed prototype in the wastepaper basket. A classic in it's own right!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book should receive 10 stars!
I truly think that this is the best vampire book ever made.
This book is a must have for any vampire story lover! I read this book when I was in 6th grade and omg it literally changed my life. I was a very bad reader as a child but this book opened a door and introduced me to the wonderful stories books could actually tell. Don't think this is just a kid's book because it isn't, its so much more! Everyone no matter what age can enjoy this book and I hope it brings you as much joy as it did to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pike- What would my teenagehood have been w/o you?
You know, I really wonder what my pre-teen and teenage years would have been without Christopher Pike's wonderful work.
The Last Vampire series is my absolute favorite of his many books, and has even hooked some of my non-reading friends. Now at the age of 20, I still long to read The Last Vampire over and over and over again.
A beautiful book by an outstanding author!

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone will LOVE this book!!!
This is an awesome book!! So far I'm Half-way through the second one and it is AWESOME! Deffinity a page turner. Everyone else is right, you do get attached to Sita after the first chapter! Wow, that's all I can say! WOW! It's the best vampire book that I've ever read!!! I HIGHLY reccomend this book, you'll NEVER put it down!!! ... Read more
