3-0 out of 5 stars WHERE DID EVERYONE GO!!!!!!!
Where is Wonder,Shining,Fleet Goddess and Siera go? Who ever the writer is now, please write a reunion book and tell us why Samantha moved to Ireland and left Shining at Whitebrook!! Cindy seems to have disappeared, so where did she go! I am a big Thoroughbred fan and why did you skip Christina from three to twelve?? I liked and Champion and Glory, so please bring at least some of their offspring back! PLEASE! Otherwise I might stop reading these great books! Also, why is almost the entire book about Eventing? I mean the Thoroughbred series is about Racing, right?????? Also, Cindy could have had ten more books about her and I would of read them, Same with Ashleigh and Samantha. JOANNA, PLEASE COME BACK!!!!!!! Emily, Australia

4-0 out of 5 stars The horse of her dreams
I think this is the first time i have given one of the thoroughbred books a 4 star rating! it was a well written book but there were so many mistakes that i couldnt give it 5 stars!! Okay first and foremost i thought the series was supposed to be about racing. Its great that they expose other "horse sports" but that seems to take away from the series main focus: RACING. I love eventing as much as the next person but i would have liked the focus to be racing. Anywhoo... Where did max, cindy, samantha, tor, mandy, honor, champion etc. go?? They should have at least mentioned what the characters were doing, where they went or something!! for as much as i didnt like cindy (and the townsends!) I miss them. the story isnt complete with the townsends. Which brings me to my next complaint: Legacy. If he was supposed to be wonder's last foal then why is star in this series?? They dont even mention him ever again untill much later in the series (i think like any where between book 45-50 something)and only because christina felt guilty. poor legacy. aside from the huge time gap (in 23 wasnt christina like 3 or 4) now she is 12, and the missing characters this book was pretty good. I think if this book would have happened later when the time was right it would have gotten better ratings. they should have continued writing about previous charaters and saved this book for some other time.

2-0 out of 5 stars WHERE IS EVERYBODY??????
WHAT HAPPENED?!?!? Did this whole series just fall apart? This is a pretty good book if youv'e never read the Thoroughbred books before, but if you have your'e probably wondering where all the people went-Cindy,Max,Samantha,Tor,Yvonne,Mandy.....And What About The HORSES?? What happened to the series? I know they fixed it and turned it back to racing, but still,it leaves the whole eventing epidemic just it's own story! It's like Thoroughbred Ashleigh:RACING Thoroughbred 1-23:EVENTING Thouroughbred 34 and beyond:RACING(hopefully) If this is your first Thoroughbred book, read in order up to 33,then go to #1 and read up from there,(skipping the ones youv'e read before) and pretend the ones youv'e read before were a tottaly different series.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC BOOK
This book was great! It deserves at LEAST 10 stars. This book is about a girl named Christina Reese, who wants to get an event horse. Chris goes to the track one day and sees a dapple gray mare named Sterling Dream-her dream horse. When the beautiful mare jumps the fence off of the track, Chris knows this is the jumper she's been dreaming of. She sees the groom whipping Sterling with a huge crop and knows she has to save her.Chris trades her own racehorse for Sterling. GREAT BOOK! I RECOMMEND TO ANYBODY WHO LOVES HORSES!

3-0 out of 5 stars The Myrtle Cure
Although author Marguerite Henry had not envisioned a sequel to MISTY, she found herself touched by the real plight of a tiny orphan colt whose mother had died at Tom's Cove. Those plucky youngsters, Paul and Maureen Beebe, make the ultimate sacrifice: they decide to sell their beloved Misty in order to finance their uncle's education at Seminary. But when the Lord cloes one door, he often opens a window somewhere else. In this case the starving little type whickers his way into the children's grieving hearts, giving them something positive to work for: finding him proper nourishment.

If you enjoyed MISTY OF CHINCOTEAGUE, you will love this tale as well. There is more of Grandpa's blustery horse sense--for children, as well as for the animals on Pony Ranch. It is also a treat to experience
Grandma's warm support for empty stomachs and aching hearts. Readers will relive the excitement of the roundup on Pony Penning Day, as the firemen of Chincoteague hold their annual fund raiser (capturing and selling the wild ponies of Assateague Island to Mainlanders). This year a movie crew is on hand to film the tumultuous events. The conflict of human versus equine will is played out on a salty stage of splashing waves off the Virginia coast. Sea Star will quickly capture your interest, along with world-famous Misty. A light, heart-warming read for kids of all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book!
This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I felt like i was right there with Paul and Maureen. They are the two main charecters that found Sea Star on the beach. This book explains the little ponys struggle for life and how Paul and Maureen helped save the ponys life. The author explains everything so well that you dont want to put the book down, ever. If you like animals then you should read this book. The author did a great job explaining and keeping you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

5-0 out of 5 stars From one horse-lover to any others out there.
I liked reading Sea Star by Marguerite Henry. It had wild horses with wild manes and flaring nostrils. Mares and foals of all types, pintos, bays, snow whites, and pitch black stallions galloped across the marshy plains. The book kept me on the edge of my seat and I was right there with Paul and Maureen, the two main characters when they found Sea Star. I was transported in my mind to the island of Chincoteague where I was flying across the sandy beach on my mounted steed next to them looking for the starving, tiny foal. Sea Star was my favorite book in the series of three books that I have read by this author.

Paragraph #1
Sea Star is one of my favorite books. It gets me interested on how horeses really do have feelings. Everyone has told me that I should read this book, because I love to read about animals. I thought that it would be very boring bacuse of the front cover and I shouldn't have judged the book by it's cover so I read it, then I thought that sane was very true. Once I got to the conflict I couldn't get my eyes off the book. It starts out like an ordinary book with little, small details and then they have surprise news that wakes you up. You are halfway dead when all of a sudden you are more than alive. This book is great becaus eit is very detailed so I understand so well that I can grow and share this with my kids, and you can't take your eyes the book.
Paragraph #2
The way they described the story was very different from how other books, that I have read, had explained the story. They make a sentence like: Let's go eat! Into like a describtive sentence like this: Let's go enjoy a meal by filling our hungry stomachs with a big and nice samdwhich! I love how they describe every single, little thing they talk about. It's like, if they don't write so that we can't understand, they aregoing to quit writing the book, they do their writing so well! I know what is going on and I am interested in what is going to happen next.
Paragraph #3
The way they explain the story is that they take a hard story to explain into a easy kingdergarten book. I can memorize the book word by word. (exaderation) I had a time where I had got mad at the book because it was getting all interesting until they made it so confusing I didn't get it. I was so frustrated that I got mad at the book. This book is always more than understandable. Everyday I read this book, I forget things very easily, I can remember this story from where I started to where I ended everyday. To tell the treuth this book had got me hyptnotised into it.
Paragraph #4
Whenever I read books I always get into trouble for not reading it a lot, but this book I get into trouble for reading it too long. This story is a very continuous story that if you take your eyes off for one moment you miss a whole apple tree in a garden. I enjoy howq there is something going on everytime and everyday. Many people don't know the feeling of horses. While reading this book you enjoy and learn at the same time. I would tell everyone that doesn't like to read and give them this book. Last of all the ending, the ending has a whole different side to everything I said. The ending is the most saddest part ever, even though it is a happy ending. The book ended! I hate it when books end, it seems like your adventure had ended and you have to start all over again. You never know whaty kind of books are as interesting as this. Your book fun time is over. I enjoyed this book and I had learned a lot from it.

The long-awaited sequel to 101 Ways to Bug Your Parents will be published in summer of 2004 by Dial/Penguin.Title:101 Ways to Bug Your Teacher. All your old friends will be back - - Sneeze, Hayley, Hiccup, Ace - - in another wacky story.-Lee Wardlaw, author

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
A Very Good Book! I loved the story behind it! The list was super funny! LOL! I am eleven years old and I would recommend it to any one around my age!!!!!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Happy to say, my children didn't torture me...
The kids liked this book, so I read it myself. And boy, was it was fun!

Although the title gives the impression that this is the kind of book a parent ought to pass up, it is really very well done.

Of course, it includes the list of 101 ways to bug your parents - which was the theme of Sneeze's own story in the book. But can you blame him? After all, his summer vacation WAS ruined!

But while Sneeze misses out on his summer plans, he gains a great deal in wisdom. A lot of important things are touched on in this book - what it might feel like to lose one's parent, a growing awareness of financial problems that adults often face, what's truly important in a friend, and even a hint of budding romance.

It's all in there! And it puts everything into perspective for Sneeze. I think most kids could learn something from this story.

I am impressed by this book and will look for other titles by thia author for my kids to read.

Well done!

5-0 out of 5 stars Kid Tested, Mother NOT approved!
Steve may fail summer school, people think his parents should be arrested, his teacher may be fired, and the whole grade is mad at him.

And all he did was complete his project for summer school!

Steve needed money to go to the INVENTION CONVENTION (Boy, did he WANT to go!) He loved to make inventions. He was assigned a project in summer school. It was to write a book.First he was going to write a biography about his favorite inventor. Then his friend HICCUP, the hypochondriac, said "Why not write a book you can SELL to get money for the INVENTION CONVENTION?" So, they thought of a title that the students would want to buy. When they start to write and sell the book, all the funny things start to happen.

This book has a lot fun situations and many funny characters. You get to know the different characters and you will like them. There are some jokes, too! And, of course, you will like the list at the end of the book called "101 WAYS TO BUG YOUR PARENTS."

So, what happened to Steve? Did he actually get to the INVENTION CONVENTION? You will have to read this very funny book to find out.

*****Mommy's note:With the very clever characterizations, and the one-line humor, even parents who like to "preview" their children's literature for appropriateness will enjoy this one! In the guise of a madcap situation, and a child-centered story, the main characters learn about responsibility, compassion, and friendship. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book to share with your baby
This series of board books are fantastic.

I started collecting these for my daughter after she was given one at 6 months as she loved them so much. The book is simple and easy to read with wonderful real photography (not illustrations)and textures on each page that relate to the text on the page.

It's a great book to get your baby involved in the reading process, to learn what you are saying also means a texture they can actually touch. It's also a book that baby can read alone with easy to turn pages and endless fascination with the different textures.

A wonderful book to get your children learning, thinking and enjoying books. You can never have too many books to read with your children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great read for many ages
We have several of the books in this series and I am buying yet another set for a baby shower. From my 16 month old daughter to my 9 year old son, this book has captured their imagination. Ponies of all ages and colors fill the pages with plenty of tactile stimulation for the youngest and the opportunity for the oldest to make up stories as he goes along with each re-reading of the book. Plus it was great before we went on a pony ride as the kids knew what to expect the ponies to feel like. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Promise (You'll see what I mean)
In my earlier review I mentioned a promise made to Alec by Abu ishak. Well Satan, the first son of the Black is that promise. And now Satan is Alec's horse. His parent's are expectng a nice slow pony that will grow up to be a nice slow horse. But Alec has other plans. But the day at the dock when Satan is finally his everyone gets a surprise. Satan is mean, sour and waiting to strike. Will Alec's dreams go down the drain? Or will the son of The black Stallion go down in racing history?

In all I think this was a great book. But let me just get this off of my shoulders. Satan is not The Black, and never will be, So don't expect the magic that happened between Alec and the Black.

5-0 out of 5 stars Walter couldn't have wrote it better!
No one could have captured the thrilling tale of a boy named Alec who was givin the first son of the Black Stallion, Satan, any better than Walter Farley. Satan was wild and Was almost untamable until one day Alec saved Satan from strangeling him self and from then on Satan was loyal and loving to Alec and became a great race horse.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gripping but lacks something
A riveting tale that will have you up all night! The Black stallion's son is pure evil. He hates everybody and won't let anybody touch him, much less ride him. He hates Alec, Henry, Mr. Volence--everyone. Alec thinks that with kindess that SATAN will be tame. But Henry, a veteran trainer, thinks otherwise, and is proved right. One day while Alec is at school, Henry fights with the colt--and more unusual things happen than he had ever seen on the tracks...

However, this book lacks the charm or variety of the first two books. It keeps repeating how Satan is a killer and he's worthless.

4-0 out of 5 stars You need to read this!
Son of the Black Stallion is about Satan, who is the Black Stallion's first foal. He is given to Alec who plans to train him to be a race horse. But when Satan arrives he is very hateful. He even hates Napoleon. The book goes on forever about how Satan hates everyone and is so mean and refuses to be trained by anybody. Then Henry does something to Satan and Alec must save his horse. Of course after he saves him he totally loves him and will do anything for him. (Does this sound a little like Alec and the Black? Steve and Flame?) So anyway he enters him in a big race. This book isn't the best book in the series but it's pretty good and you have got to read it to understand the rest of the series because alot of the books that come after this one have Satan in them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Horse Classic
When the Black returns to Arabia, Abu Ishak promises Alec that he will have the Black's firstborn. When that colt arrives, it soon becomes evident that Satan has inherited his father's savage desire to run and to fight. Alec tries to win the horse's love and confidence, but as Satan grows older he becomes dangerous. Alec, away at college, doesn't realize how savage Satan has become. After Satan throws Alec, injuring him; Henry decides to "teach" Satan-with a whip. Henry realizes too late how dangerous Satan really is, and is almost killed. Henry, in a desperate attempt to save his life, almost kills Satan. Now Satan has no reason to trust humans. Can Satan ever be tamed? Will Satan finally learn to trust and love Alec? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This is my daughter's (age 7) favorite book. She has read it several times and does not seem to tire of it. Kathleen Duey's plot is interesting and suspenseful, but not frightening. Duey engages and reaffirms a young girl's fantasy about unicorns and animals in general (my daughter's favorite character is Kip the dog). It also amply demostrates the strength and resourcefulness of Heart, the young heroine of this series, a great role model for young girls. We will definitely buy the rest of the books in this series.

3-0 out of 5 stars The series is tipping
This book was a little more than average. Karen Bentley had a REALLY BIG job taking over right where there was new character and a new racing censation. The part about Cindy always acting as if she owned the horses confuses me. When I bought read a bit of Wonder's Champion and she say "no matter what happens he'll still be my colt" I say (and I quote) "HUH?" I thought "oh, she probably got handed half interest in him like Ashleigh and Wonder. But she didn't and I'm confused. I REALLY like the Thoroughbred series, but I think Joanne Campbell made a BIG mistake by writing "Ashleigh's Christmas Miracle" because it kind of gave TB a dead end. She probably didn't think the series would go this far, but it did, and now they're stuck. Is Jazz Goddess still going to be born? And how long is Wonder going to live? The series is on the verge of plumiting into the pit of forgotteness because now they have an overlap. I think they will be shortening the time periods of books so they can focus on parts of Christina's life so that it doesn't get boring because we already know what's happening. I really hope they still have a lot of the focus on racing. People like the series because it is about riders who know they're stuff, so that the readers aren't reading about a conquest to learn how to ride (if you want that read Saddle Club and PonyTails, PonyPals) but a quest to win the Triple Crown, keep great race horses alive (not mention any names Pride and Glory) and to win races and breed great fillies and colts. That's why people like the series. But if all of a sudden it's about Christina learning to ride, *YAWN* boring! Ashleigh's Christmas Miracle wasn't boring though, because Christina was majorly competing and stuff. Any way, this isn't much of a review, because it's about the future, oh well!

4-0 out of 5 stars Cindy's Honor
This book is definitely one of the best in the Thoroughbred series. It really tells what its like to have a horse that you have a very special bond with. I would definitely recommend it!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars I don't like Cindy
I really miss Ashleigh and Samantha, what's with cindy? I mean she was okay in the start, though I could tell something wasn't right, then I found that Joanna had stopped writing and it was someone else! that's where the difference came in, it wasn't Joanna's writing style at all, thought I'm sure Bentley did her best. It's just that Cindy seems so...I don't know snobbish? I mean, every good horse has to be her's. And I thought thi series was about Ashleigh? Then Samantha? when someone starts focusing to much on one character like Cindy, it throws the whole thing off. The series started with Ash and Sammy, I thought Sammy and Tor would get married! (Though in Super Addition Samantha's Journey, I find out that they do!) Anyways, I just wish more of the stories could be focused back on the favourites.
Thanks, Kee

2-0 out of 5 stars Classical Cindy Take Two
Good show, Syrinx. As always you just have that right witty remark to say -- I could just see Champion as Cindy's personal guinea pig (Too bad he wouldn't do what some g. pigs do and bite ) but aye, there's something too freaking abrupt in the beginning of the story -- Arabian Challenge is like that too -- where all of a sudden, something is happening. And BOOM, just like that, you're thrown into the plot without any clue of what just is happening except some freakish accident. After all, a clue about why Honor might be going spazzy wouldn't have been too much trouble... but there's Bently for you. And what's with Jeremy? He didn't really seem that bad, but of course, he just /had/ to be Lavinia's cousin which made him an automatic jerk and a 'bad guy'

5-0 out of 5 stars i havent read it yet but....
i havent read this book and to tell you the truth im not sure if i want to. I only need a few more books in the seris and i will have the whole collection. this book happens to be one of them. But why i am not looking forward to this book is b/c of cindy. i have hated her since when she first came into the seris. She is a spoiled little brat. first she has glory, then she moves on to storm, then its champion, then its honor, well you get the point. i take care of 3 horses and i love them so0o0o0o much i would never EVER forget about them if something was to happen to them. but not cindy...no she just moves right along! and i think its crazy that she can beat ashleigh, the all time greatest jockey ever!! HELLO wake up...ashleigh has been racing for how long and cindy had only raced like what 2 races before...? and another thing about cindy... whatever horse she takes care of its automatically hers! no i dont think so. and when ash told her that they arent cindy's horses, cindy blows up at poor ash. if it werent for ash, samantha, ian, and beth then cindy wouldnt be there! i think cindy should be greatful that she can work with such wonderful horses. not be a spoiled brat about it! but i do love the seris so i think i will buy all the books i need to complete my collection. i reccomend the whole seris to any one. i have been a loyal reader for almost 5 years now. another great (and for those of you who want more realistic book about horses)seris is the Heartland seris. they have told me alot about horses! and they are very catching...once you start you cant put them down, i have the whole seris. ok i think my 1000 words are almost up now... ... this book is a litle wierd, beacuase if rima is too big 4 snowwite now then it wil not be long b4 lulu is too big for snowwite so why bother get a small pony when she can get a bigger one she will have forever? But it is a good story beacuase it shopws lulu is ready too outgrow a pony solong as it is her beloved snowwite and not rimas. truly enspiring.

1-0 out of 5 stars The stupidest book ever
This book is so stupid, they want a girl to give up her pony just because Rema is too big for it. What if one day Lulu grows out of her pony, does she have to give her up? NO! Also, they hate Rema just because she didn't like Snow White's drool and she called a pony a horse once. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Horses!
Starting with the ancient Eohippus, Horses! shows the history of and long relationship between people and horses. This book is packed with anatomy, life cycle, and general information. There are numerous labeled illustrations and many breeds are featured. While a well-read horse-loving child may not learn anything new, I learned quite a few things about horse. Did you know that horses only have one toe? Karen Woodworth-Roman, Children's Science Book Review

5-0 out of 5 stars ENTERTAINING AND INFORMATIVE
One would be hard pressed to think of an animal that enjoys more popularity than horses. Consider the parts they have played not only in our country's history but also throughout literature. Children admire them and can imagine all sorts of adventures on horseback.

Gail Gibbons has brought her usual perception and skills to this entertaining book about one of our favorite animals. Noting that the horse's earliest ancestors lived almost 60 million years ago the author traces the migration of horses and their domestication. We're reminded of how useful they were: plowing, pulling wagons and carts, transporting people.

Included is an examination of this animal's anatomy as well as notes on purebred horses from the Arabian to the Palomino to the Clydesdale.

"Horses" is both entertaining and informative for all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely, a memorable story
When I was in Elementary School, I read all of the books in the school library that had to do with horses. Of all of them, this was my favorite. I've remembered it until today when I decided to refresh my memory from 7 years ago. I think it's so neat that books like this can stay with you and impact your outlook after so many years. This is such a beautiful and inspiring story, I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars " A Horse Story That You Would Want to Cherish."
Mustang:Wild Spirit of the West is a good story about a girl who loves horses all of her life. When she grows up, she tries to stop the killing of wild mustangs. It is a story that I'm sure you would enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars A heartwarming story
I first read the book in sixth grade for a book report. One of my friends said I should read it because my name is Annie, too. The aspect I like most about it was the fact that it the hero was a woman, and she fought with courage and determination for something that she believed was right.

This story was so wonderful. I love horses, and it made me want to fight for the mustangs too! (Yes they still are rounded up and slaughtered "when their numbers get too great") I would recommend this book to anyone!
