5-0 out of 5 stars Misty of Chincoteague/bunny
Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry was published in 1947. The main characters are Pual, Maureen,a hose named The Phantom, and Phantom's colt Misty.Paul and Maureen buy Misty and her mother at Pony Penning Day ,when men from Chincoteague go up and try to get wild ponies Assateague Island. Pual and Maureen raise Misty and the Phantom on their own. Their grandpa didn't think that they could raise both of the horses on their own because they were just kids. They proved him wrong by giving a lot of their time to train them. They had to work hard on the Phantom because she was wild.Tthe two kids learned that hard work pays off. Both Pual and Maureen changed in the story. In the end the kids are more resposible and work harder.I like this book because it shows that can do things that grown-ups usuay do. I rate this book five out of five stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars A basic for the horse-lover's library
If you have a child that loves horses, you've probably already seen this book.......either brought home from the library... or in their own collection. This is one of the staples of any horse-lover's collection.

The story of Misty, a wild pony from Assateague Island off the coast of Virginia who is captured as a foal and adopted by Paul and Maureen Beebe. True story of a truly wonderful foal and her family. This story sparked three sequels that still sell millions of copies around the world.

4-0 out of 5 stars Misty of Chincoteague
Misty of Chincoteague is a wonderful book for all ages. The Phantom is the wildest horse on the Island of Assateague. The "map" of the United States on her whithers and the fact that she ran like the wind made the lead mare of the Pied Piper's herd the most desirable horse on the entire island. Paul and Maureen Beebe want the Phantom, and work hard to earn the hundred dollars to buy her if she is caught. But no one can catch the Phantom, right?
Surprises are in store for the young reader, and old friends will enjoy coming back time and time again to this book for all, Misty of Chincoteague.

5-0 out of 5 stars ANIMAL lovers this is the book
Misty of the Chincoteague is about the Phantom, a horse that is wild and free. Little does the Phantom know that there is a dream of a little girl and boy? The boy's name is Paul and the girl's name is Maureen they are brother and sister that have the same dream to buy the Phantom. Their grandpa owns a horse farm where a whole bunch of people go out and capture horses to sell them. So Paul and Maureen start working because they want that horse so bad. They're going to do anything to get the Phantom. Does Paul and Maureen's dream come true?
Misty was one of the best stories I have ever read! If you are a horse lover then this book is for you! This is all thumbs up. An animal lover out there if you are looking for a magnificent irresistible wonderful book to read this book is for you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for pony lovers!
This is one of our daughter's favorite pony books and a classic story. As a publisher of another children's pony book, "Mint's Christmas Message" we think "Misty" is the standard against which other children's pony books should be measured. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars If you like horse books you will love this one
I liked this book because it was exciting and to read. It has a great ending. Something new always happens that you would not expect. It has a good plot. It is suspenseful. You will want to know what happens next in the story.
Black Stallion is about a boy named Alec who finds and owns a black stallion. They get ship wrecked with no other living thing on the island. He has to find food for both himself and the stallion. The stallion is a big strong horse with a lot of speed and ability to run in a race. Their shelter caught on fire and burnt down. A ship saw the smoke and rescued them.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes horse books. It's fun to read. I would recommend it to fifth through seventh graders. It's an easy book to read. It's a great book with excitement and it is fun to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Would Never Believe How Many times I've Read it!!!!!!!!!
This is a story about a boy named Alec who first sees a savage, yet beautiful horse led onto his ship. Alec secretly befriends him. Then there is a terrible storm and the ship is sinking.Alec lets the Black go and he plunges into the sea with Alec. A day later They have reached land but for the better or worse?

Alec and The Black are finally rescued and Alec joins forces with an ex trainer named Henry Dailey. They plan to make Black a famous race horse but will the Black Stallion ever be truly tamed?

This was a beautifully well written story full of adventure and heart. If you don't try it then you will really be missing out.

    4-0 out of 5 stars A classic
Although the copy sitting on my shelf is the dog-eared Scholastic version of my youth, not this new edition, I feel that every child who has ever looked at a horse with wonder, seen it as a thing of beauty and nobility, or dreamed of having a horse of his or her own, should read this excellent series, beginning with this very book.

A fascinating and fantastical story of sea rescue, perseverance, and courage, as well as a peek into the world of horse racing half a century ago, these stories, despite being written in 1941, have a timeless quality that will always capture the heart of any adventurer.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Heart of a Horse
This book is spetacular!!! Its one of the greatest books I have read in years. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put the book down. It was about a young boy, named Alec, who finds himself and a black horse to be the only survivors of a shipwreck. Alec soon learns that he owe his life to this black horse whom saved his life, by dragging him to an island. They soon learn they must depend on each other in order to survive on the island, and because of Alec's love for horses, he learns how to become the horse's friend and he starts a type of speacial bond between the horse and himself.

One of my reasons why I liked this book is, because it always gives me that feeling of whats going to happen next. Its just that the book is so full of excitment. Every time Alec rides the black horse, the author makes it seem that Alec is always risking his life. Every once in a while the author, Walter Farley, would write an event where it seems Alec could loss his life. Such as this, "A few minutes later Henry and Jake ran up to them, and Alec weakly climbed down from the saddle. Henry took the reins- they were sticky and wet with blood."

Another reason why I liked this book is, it has just the right level of vocabulary. Sometimes when you choose a book and it turns out to be something a little too easy or a little too hard, that you can't understand what the book is really talking about. Such as this sentence, "The next day Alec set out to obtain more of the carragheen" or this sentence, "he remebered the deep gully that was there.

My most favorite part of this book was, when Alec and the black horse gets rescued from the island they were stranded on, and when Alec finally gets to see his family for the first time in many months. The reason why I like this part is, it's full of happiness. Alec had never seen his family in about five months, and he thought that he was going to die on that island with the horse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Whoa, SeaBiscuit!
I first read THE BLACK STALLION when I was 9 - and I became hooked and read several of the books that followed in the series. None held up to this first book - but they were consistent and I still have them.

With the book first being published in 1941 - I wonder now how much of this story was influenced by the SeaBiscuit story?

Anyway - this is one of those books that I remember wishing with all my heart and soul I could be Alec, alone on the island in the sun with that horse. Just riding. And having no other thoughts in the world.

And sometimes, after a particularly bad week, this book is one of those that I scoop up to smooth my edges. ... Read more

"Come What May" was a GREAT book! It continued the life of a 15-year old girl named Amy who's Mom died about 6 weeks ago. It goes through only a little bit of adventure but still was worth reading. I got the whole set of books from #1-5 for Christmas and I'm hoping to get the books #6 and 7 for my 10th birthday. Lauren Brook is the author of these GREAT series and I hope she will continue her series of books throughout her life. I think what brought her to the passion of writing these books were because she might of went through what happened to Amy throughout her childhood and wanted to tell people something similar to her life. These books are great for kids and teens! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful Heartland book!
Taking Chances is really good, with a beautiful grey Thoroughbred gelding as one of the characters. Amy finds that things go terribly wrong when she is asked to keep a secret about Heartland's new stable hand from everyone - even Ty! This is a REALLY good book!

5-0 out of 5 stars heartland
Heartland is one of my favorite series. If u are a horse lover, u would definately like this book. The author wrote about how Amy hires Ben to help out at the barn. But Ben never actually helps Amy and Ty out, he just makes more work for them to do. He spends all his time training his horse for the horse show. Ty starts getting irritated because ben gets his horse very exshasted by training him too hard. Even though his horse was sweating and panting like crazy, Ben still kept on working his horse. Ty has tried to tell Ben to stop before he gets his horse sick, but Ben wouldn't listen and told ty to stop telling him how to train his own horse. Amy can tell that ty doesn't like ben much but what could she do. Ben's aunt was a costumer that helped them out when they didn't have any money. How could she even think about firing him. Amy hears ty talking about leaving heartland on the phone. What was Amy to do now? This is one of the best books that lauren brooke has written!

5-0 out of 5 stars I knew it!
At the time I read this book, I thought that this would be a romance, but it was nothing like that, just dramatic. This book is about Amy, still trying to get over her mothers death, has had one person to always lean on, Ty, the stable boy, but everything just gets thrown! A new stable boy (Ben) comes to Heartland to help Ty out but that doesn't happen. Between Ben beating his horse and Ty anger against Ben nature, Amy is forced to be an enemy to Ty because of the secret that Ty shouldn't know about Ben's life. Amy knows that her relationship with Ty is burning and she never realized before how much she took him for granted. Read and find out what Amy should do!

Woo-hoo! Lauren brooke has made quite a come-back now hasn't she? I thought the last few books in the heartland series were, umm, to say the least, not quite as good as the first few. I couldn't put this one down. When Candy starts to show flu symptoms, things at heartland get tough. Ty, Ben and Amy seem farther apart than ever and on top of that, the heat is just making things worse. As more horses come down with the flu, and the quarentine extends, Ben gets more dificult. Finally, when things start to look up, a tornado hits the valley and heartland is devastated. (The book ends with Ty in a coma:()

    A MUST READ!!

This is one of my favourite Heartland books but the only problem about it is when you get to the end it leaves you on a cliff-hanger and you NEED to get the next book. This book is very sad at the end but don't worry because things look up in the next book(Everything Changes). If you are a horse lover than this is the book for you.

Have you ever dreamed about working with horses, healing them, and helping them? Then look no further than the Heartland book series, by Lauren Brooke. This book series is perfect for horse fanatics and riders everywhere.

The Heartland series is about Amy Fleming, a teenage girl who is the daughter of a world-famous horse rehabilitator. After a life-changing accident, Amy takes over her her mom's rescue & rehab center for horses, called Heartland. Throughout the series, Amy faces many obstacles, and not just with the horses, but also socially and mentally.

This book, Darkest Hour, is (right now) the lastest book in the series. Amy is handling the business in Heartland well until an equine flu illness attacks the horses. One by one, horses get sick and are forced into isolation while the whole Heartland farm is under quarantine. It doesn't help that Ty, Amy's boyfriend and employee of Heartland, is arguing with Ben, the other stablehand. Amy has a lot of stress put on her, but the situation gradually disappears. However, just as things settle down, an incident rip-roars through the short tranquility and, when the dust settles, things might never be the same again. Will Amy physically and mentally cope with everything?

I really enjoyed this book. Since I ride horses myself, I could really relate to Amy's dilemmas in behavioral problems with the horses and in rehabilitating them. I also like the description put into the book because it helped me to visualize what was happening. It also had really nice explainations of things, so nothing was confusing to me. Darkest Hour had lots of suspense and emotion, so it was very realistic.

I reccomend this book to girls who are interested in horses. I also suggest that you start by reading the first book in the Heartland series, Coming Home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Totaly Awsome!!!
I started out with the 5th heartland book, then i had to get the rest! The 13th book is awsome!!Things go as normal until Candy shows signs of the flu. Scott admits that it is the flu. Soon, the back barn was reserved for only sick horses. Suddenly the the heat gets intense and developes a twister. The twister ruins the back barn. After the twister blows over, Ty and Amy go in to check the horses. Suddenly, the roof falls ontop of Ty and Amy. Amy is knocked out. She gets up, but Ty go to the hospital. 4-0 out of 5 stars The Black Stallion Returns by Walter Farley
Alec Ramsay's horse, the Black, who beat America's fastest horses, has just been claimed by his, supposedly, real owner, who lives in Arabia. This book is about how Alec will do anything to get back the Black, even if it means to go half-way around the world! Alec eventually finds himself in search of the Black's owner in the deserts of Arabia, and anything can happen in Arabia from desert raids to horse races.
This is an animal fiction book by Walter Farley. Two reasons I liked this book was because it had a page-turning story line and a wonderful ending. There were some parts of the book that lost my interest, but overall it was a fantastic book! I would give this book a rating of four out of five. The age group that the book would be best for is 10-15 years old. I really recommend you to read this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book keeps you hanging on every word!
    The Black Stallion Returns

    By Walter Farley

    Adventure

    Characters:

Alec is Black's owner. He loves horses. He is 14 years old. He has black hair and goes to high school. He loves Black a lot.

Black is a black stallion who Alec befriends after a shipwreck.

Henry is the short, stout, bowlegged trainer of Black. He also owns the stables Black lives in.

Mr. Volence is the owner of Sun Raider, a horse Black beat in racing. He thinks Black can improve the American racehorse.

Abu Ja' ben Ishak is Black's real owner. His hair is steel gray. His skin is tough, dry, and the color of mahogany.

Raj is about 12 years old. He guides Alec's group through the desert. He has never known his family.

Tabari is Abu's daughter. She is about 15 years old. She is very beautiful. She loves her father a lot.

    The Setting:

The book takes place in Henry's stables and Alec's house in the suburbs of New York, and in Arabia.

    The Plot:

Someone tries to kill Black. The next day, a man shows up and claims to be Black's real owner. They find out he is telling the truth and he takes Black to Arabia. Henry, Alec and Mr. Volence follow him to Arabia where they learn about a conflict between Abu's tribe and a neighboring tribe. The conflict is that supposedly Abu killed his best friend, who happened to be the leader of the neighboring tribe. The son of the dead leader is very vengeful. Someone re-steals Black. Abu's and the neighboring tribe are about to go to war because Abu's tribe thinks the other tribe stole Black. Alec and Raj find out the truth and save Black. The man who kidnapped Black gets away, but his men did not. Alec and Raj help make the Tribes friends again and Raj finds his family. They hold a big race like every year. During the race the man who kidnapped Black tries to shot Black. Instead, the others tribe leader shot the man. At the end of the race the other tribe's leader who was riding for his tribe and Alec, who was riding for Abu's tribe, were racing their horses neck and neck. Black and Alec win by a small space. At the end, Tabari marries the chief of the other tribe. The tribes make peace and Abu promises Alec he will get Black's first son.

My favorite scene is when Alec meets Tabari because she is very nice and talks to Alec. I also like it when Alec meets Abu's tribe because it is all new for Alec and he behaves very nicely even though he is impatient to see Black. My two favorite characters are Raj and Tabari. I like Raj because he shows independence and he is very nice and wishes he knew his family. He wants to help Alec and be friends with him. I like Tabari because she is nice, beautiful, shows lots of independence and makes her own decisions. I recommend this book to horse or animal lovers. I also recommend it for mystery lovers. I think people should read this because it is full of adventure, mystery, horses, and Alec's thoughts. It is a wonderful book. It makes you feel like you are in the book. I think all my friends should read this. It truly is an excellent book. I would rate this book a 10 because it shows a boy's love for a horse and how he struggles to get his horse back when it is taken from him. I think Walter Farley did a wonderful job writing it. I would also give this book a ten because it keeps you wondering what happens next. Walter Farley keeps you hanging on his every word.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gripping, terrifying narrative
One day, Alec hears the Black whinny in fear and anger. He runs to the stables and is horrified to find a hypodermic in the straw of Black's stall. It is deadly. The only clue is a strange medallion with a bird on it. But then something even more frightening happens the next day. Alec goes to the stable to find out that an Arabic man has come all the way overseas to see-and claim--the Black. He really is the Black's owner, so off the
Black goes. Thinking there is a connection between the hypo and the claimer of the Black, Alec, Henry, and trainer Mr. Volence travel to Arabia. They battle starvation and the hot sun with the help of a young Arab boy named Raj to find the Black. But when they get to the Arab cheiftan's home, they end up riding among warring tribes...warring tribes who are threatening to plunder and kill...and the leader turns out to be the man who tried to kill the Black! Then Alec is captured by the Black's evil nemisis--and may be killed himself!

4-0 out of 5 stars Black Stallion Rocks
This was a good book, but it had some parts I didn't like.I didn't like it when the owner of Black went to Alec's house and said that that was his horse. The author should have had the owner steal Black instead of telling Alec. The part I like was when Alec was racing on Black in the desert. The author used good details when describing Black.I enjoyed the fact Alec was the only one who can ride Black .I would recommened this book to anyone who loves horses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Black is back in a whole new book!
The Black stallion is a wonderful book some parts are scary and some are sad. But in the end it all comes together in a wonderful horse mystery/adventure! ... Read more

While women generally ride for pleasure to feel the wind and the movement of the horse beneath, a boys ride is different in that it is the power and speed of the ride that are most dear to him in these chariots of fire, the roar of the engine, the hoofs and the noise of the wheels that inspire their thrill. Boys tend to drive either their horses or their cars to see the height of their power, and whether the beauty of black or the silver shine of white, the joy of the command lies in the skill of the rider and the knowledge of his horse, or his engine, a sight that most can appreciate, understand, and admire.

The Billy and Blaze series is great fun. Young boys, even those not interested in horses, will love these books. My 7yo has never had an interest in horses (he thinks they smell bad) but he hangs on to every word of these adventurous stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, wonderful set of stories...
I read these books as a little kid... The illustrations are incredibly beautiful and lifelike, and the stories are equally enjoyable. Billy and Blaze's adventures would capture the heart and mind of any child -- or even adult! - with their emotional strength and superb literary quality. 5-0 out of 5 stars Everything Changes
I absolutely love the Heartland books since they're all so great and this one was no different.

In Everything Changes, Amy deals with alot. She has to since Ty's still in a coma and there's an un-backed stallion (Dazzle) straight from the plains of Nevada. Plus dealing with all of the other damaged horses by herself and the barn chores.

This was a great book and I hope Lauren Brooke continues on writing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heartland: Everything Changes
In the fourteenth Heartland book Amy Fleming learns to cope with a new challenge in her life, a pure green mustang stallion, and her best friend, Ty, who is in a coma. She learns to find herself and what the true meaning of friendship and patience means to her and the horses she heals. I read no other books then the Heartland books and they inspire me to live each day healing horses and the people I'm with. These books have changed my life and should be read by all. I love you Lauren Brooke and NEVER stop writing!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything Changes- But Lauren Brooke's Writing Doesn't!
Another awesome example of Lauren Brooke's admirable ability to relate to our-age teen equestrians. With the new and challenging mustang on her hands, and Ty still in the hospital, quite a few surprises spring up, and Amy has to deal with many things she hasn't yet dealt with- such as a horse completely and totally not responding. I won't tell you whether or not Ty wakes up, if he is in a wheelchair, if he is fine, or if he is... dead. One bit of information I can spare without ruining the numerous surprise scenes is that this book is far more emotional and in-depth than Lauren Brooke's previous works, but I can not say I am opposed. Amy seems to still be herself, but more sentimental and emotional at the same level. (...)

5-0 out of 5 stars Lauren Brooke is the BEST!
I have been reading the Heartland books for quite a long time and they have been all good but this book is DEFINITELY my favourite. This book has alot of things going on in it and at the end it leaves you on a cliff hanger. I can't wait to read the next book(Love is a gift) and anyone who is a horse lover will simply adore this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars I luved this book
I know Amazon says this is a book for 9-12 year olds but I'm older and I loved it. I started reading the Heartland books in like 5th grade but like now I really think this is a book that people my age would enjoy. However, if you haven't read at least the last five books first it won't mean as much to you. I am one of those people that isn't really sensitive and has never cried in a book before but this book made me cry. Everyone should read this book! It's fantastic! ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars Heartland 10, Tomorrow's Promise
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as well as the others so far in this series. These books are more realistic than most that I've read. I love how Lauren Brooke is able to portray her characters and describe their emotions so well. I can't tell you which book of the series is my favorite...too many to choose. I like this one a lot because Amy has so many things to do and is struggling to get everything (and more) done. Ty knows something has to give but doesn't want to tell her. I liked how most everything ended. I think several of the things that happened in this book are foreshadowing the next one. It will be interesting to see.

4-0 out of 5 stars good book, something for light bed time reading
Amy receives a horse called Summer Storm from her father as a present. Storm is a jumper horse and Amy wants to start taking him to shows. But Heartland isn't cut out to home a jumper and doesn't have the money to pay for all these shows. Ty doesn't think Amy will be able to take care of the horses @ Heartland AND go to school AND ride and show Storm AND help Lou how to ride. At a show, Amy meets Daniel, a boy who also does jumping also and has a horse called Amber. She wants to help Daniel achieve his dream which is to become a pupil of Brad Shaffer who runs a well known training jumping stable for Daniel is poor and doesn't have a lot of money. But something tragic happens to Amber and Amy has to help Daniel face his worst fear: that he may risk losing Amber. And also Amy has her own troubles to deal with: the one year anniversary of the death of her mom is coming up and she doesn't know what to do. Of course Ty and Amy have their romantic moments and Ty too seems to be troubled by something... Basically everyone has their own problems to deal with in this story. But whatever happened to Matt? Ever since he's been going out with Ashley, he's been disappearing. And what about daybreak and melody?!?!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not My Favorite But Still Great
THIS BOOK IS AMAZING! It is similar to #9, Every New Day, and MUCH different from the other 8. It's not as sweet, sappy and unreal. Tomorrow's Promise is much more like reality. Amy's boyfriend, Ty, who is also a stable hand @ Heartland, seems to be preoccupied and distressed about something. He won't tell Amy what it is and because Amy knows how much she loves him and how important he is to everyone @ Heartland, she is concerned and distressed as well. Also, Amy's long lost father buys Lou and Amy a show horse named Storm! FACT: He is the mirror image of PEGASUS! BUT Younger. Ty and Grandpa know that they don't have the room, time, money, ect... for a competition horse like Storm. But Amy persuades Grandpa to let them keep him. But not everyone is convinced. Ty still doesn't think it's right to keep Storm because he knows that Amy can't do all of her chores, ride him, go to school, and help Lou learn 2 ride again! And he still seems preoccupied. So Amy doesn't want 2 upset him by talking about it and she's upset b/c she always used 2 b able 2 tell Ty everything. On top of that, at a show with Ben, a friend and stable hand @ Heartland too, Amy meets Daniel, a man, Ben's age, who has a talented jumper, a roan mare, but his horse well I'll just say it, looks like she was put together by a committee, aka she looks really bad. Daniel seems to hate the show scene and @ first Amy doesn't like him but as she gets to know him she realizes that all he has is the titles he wins and his horse. When his horse, Amber, gets grumpy and won't cooperate, Amy tries to convince Ty to drop of some herbs while they're picking up one of Nick Halliwell's horses that is coming to Heartland. Ty agrees but Amy can tell that he is still annoyed with her. In the end something drastic happens, that has a huge effect on everyone. Luckily, Amy and Ty still have their romantic moments. Don't we all love those?? lol. This a great book and worth ne body's time! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK IF A HORSE LOVER!!!!!!!!
This book is exciting and a little bit of a mystery. Any person that loves horses or animals will like this book as much as I did. The story takes place on a farm called Heartland. This farm is like no other farm. A teenage girl named Amy Fleaming takes the job of healing the wounded or curing the scard horses. After Amy's mother dies, Amy feels there is somthing missing from her heart. One day she gets a phone call, the person on the phone wants to bring over a very famous race horse,Gallant Prince. Prince is now scared of everything ever since a disater takes place. Can Amy get the stallion out of his darkness???

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS EVER!
I really love this book. It combines the real facts of horses while reminding u that this story is about a 15-year-old girl who goes through the same stuff that other people do. Her relationship with the horses is strong but that's not the only thing. It hinted in the 1st book that Ty (who is a totally perfect!) liked Amy. Finally he kisses her (in the 6th book) and reveals that he loves her and Amy finds out she loves him to. I really wanted something to happen between them, and I won't spoil the rest. It is a great book that really helps u learn about horses. The main focus of the book is about a race horse who is named Gallant Prince who was injured in a stable fire. Amy talks to Prince's former stable hand and realizes that he might be the key to helping Prince. But Ryan, the stable hand has his own problems as he was also injured in the fire and is not exactly up on the idea of seeing Prince again. I won't tell you anything more, you'll just have to read the book yourself! IT'S AN AWESOME BOOK AND YOU SHOULD READ IT ASAP!

5-0 out of 5 stars 13 year old reader Anna
This is another great book by Lauren Brooke. Amy has to help a jet black horse named Gallant Prince. He got caught in a stable fire and is now afraid of EVERYTHING. But Amy also has to confront his owner who got badly burned in the fire. She must help him face his fears and take him out of his dark room that he stays in 24-7. Amy has to lead them BOTH out of the darkness before it's to late! Happy Reading!

3-0 out of 5 stars not one of the best books from Heartland
I liked this book but it was not one of the best ones. Amy Flaming runs a farm called heartland she heals the scars of emotionally injured horses. But when Prince Gallant comes to heartland Amy simply can't pull him out of his darkness. The stallion fears everyone and everything. But when amy finds out that prince's old stable hand Ryan is going thourgh the same pain she knows that he is the only one who can reach Prince. For horse lovers everywhere Out of the darkness is an emotional exciting book that display the relationship of a human and horse working together even in times where everything seems losted.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my daughter's favorite series
My daughter, a thirteen year old equestrian and voracious reader whose tastes run the gamut from Judy Bloom to Tolkien and all points in between, has devoured the entire Heartland series this past month. This excellent series contains suprisingly tight and descriptive prose conveying clear action packed narratives which possess good morals and interesting characters.

Imaginative and age appropriate, Lauren Brooke's series supplies great entertainment for any active middle school reader. While they are certainly written directly for a female middle school audience, this late thirty something year old dad, whose literary tastes favor histories and biographies, has found this particular series quite entertaining in a pleasantly guilt free manner. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Book, but not for me
Summary-- this book is about a girl named Any she lives at a place called heartland. It is like no place else because the scars of the past can be healed, it is a place where frightened and abused horses learn to trust again. Amy sees a horse that is abandoned. She convinces her mother to go out and save Spartan, which is what they call him. They weather is really bad, but her mother will stop at nothing to save a horse in need of care. Something terrible happends, a branch falls and her mother swerves out of the way and they get into an accident with Spartan in the trailer. Amy tries to help Spartan, but he doesn't like Amy because he relates her to the accident so he is scared of her.

What I Think-- My opimion on this book is that is was a good book, I love horses and i would also do as much as i could to save them too. I thought that the book was an easier book for me to read though. I would like to follow up on the other books to see what happens next.

Recommendation-- I would recommend this book to people who like horses and would want to read about them. I wouldn't recomment this book to people over the age of thirteen because it is an easy book to read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite Heartland book from all 7!
When I read this book I loved it! It's about Amy a girl who lives on a horse farm- Heartland- which gets bussnies by curing horses from their scars ( Scaredom, bad beahvior, and Treating badly) In this book Amy is working with a horse called Melondy which has just given birth to a foal named Daybreak. Anyway Ashley Grant - Amy's emeny- invited Amy and all her friends to a big christmas party, Amy doesn't know why intill she sees Ashley trying to get Ben- one of Heartlands 2 stablehands- to notice her. Amy then knows why Ashley invited them. Amy's best friend Soyna likes Ben too so she's very disipointed that Ashley likes Ben too.
At the Christmas part Ty- The other Heartland Stablehand- and Ben pick Soyna and Amy up- When Amy's and Ty's hands touchs she blushish, Amy doesn't know why. Ty's been Hearland's stable hand for a long time. At the Grant's party things get worse! Matt- one of Amy's friends- pulls her on the dance floor to slow dance! Amy doesn't like this, she knows Matt likes her but she just wants to be friends not boyfriend and girlfriend. But when she trys to tell Matt he goes away. Amy, Soyna, and Ty rush over to Matt when they find him dancing to not anybody but Ashley! After some time Amy and Ty dance together Amy feels strange- She just doesn't know why it was Ty she was thinking of- Ty the person who worked many years at Heartland since he was 15.

At Tys birthday he makes sure Amy's safe when Amy's older sister-Lou- is trying to find the farther who abanded them, and Amy's babysister is going on a vet meeting with Heartlands vet and Lou's boyfriend- Scott (also Matt's older brother)- When the opened Ty's gift they almost kissed! Arm to arm mouth to mouth- They were porbaly going to when the phone rang. It was a nurse at a hosptial. You see Amy's grandpa was sick. The nurse said her grandpa was geting really sick, and so Ty and Amy rush off.

If you want to find out the rest about Amy's grandpa and about Ty and Amy how now there going to get along, and about if Amy and Matt will make up and much more get the book!

5-0 out of 5 stars ...wonderful...
I really like the Heartland series, and I've read all of them up to book 6. I love them all, but this one was my favorite. It was absolutely wonderful, and I couldn't put it down until it was finished. Even after it was finished, I didn't want to put it down- I wanted to find out what happens next.
This book is so exciting. Every page is interesting.
This book is a mixture of feelings- sometimes it makes you want to cry along with Amy, or sometimes it makes your heart pound in your chest.
All in all, I loved this book and all the other ones I've read.

I don't like to tell what happens, because then it sort of takes away some of the excitement or surprise when you come to a part you already know. The end is like the best part.

If you're looking for a good horse book, but one that's really realistic, you should read the Heartland series. Especially this one. This is one of those books that really deserves 5 stars...
I simply can't wait to read #7... I really want to know what's going to happen between Ty and Amy!

Anyway, if you haven't read this book already, you'll make a wonderful decision by reading it- NOW!

Thank You for taking the time to read this. It's really a wonderful book~ love horses

Heartland: One Day You'll Know is a great book for anyone who believes in miracles and/or loves horses. It's a very emotional book and the emotions change at different times. What I would say about this book though, is that you should read it, no matter how old you are. It's a book that can help children follow their dreams and grow to love books. Thanks for your time, ashley. ... Read more

I can still remember sitting in the children's reading area of our public library (about 20+ years ago!) reading every Billy and Blaze book I could get my little hands on! If you have a child who loves horses and adventures, you need to purchase this and other books in the series.
