5-0 out of 5 stars Picture Perfect
As a natural hair care provider, of un-processed/chemically free African-American hair textures, I purchased this book to offer my little clients some styling options for their natural hair. I love showing my little clients and their parents this book. It gives some great brief articles on proper management of our youth's hair. And OHHHH the young girls and boys in the book are adorable. Now if you are looking for step by step instructions of how to achieve the hairstyles showcased then this book is not for you. However there are a few step by step or diagram instructions on a few of the styles. I feel that this book is a must have for parents/guardians etc. of African-American children. Even if one is creatively or dexterity challenged in hairstyling this book has something to offer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kids have bad hair days, too
The three star rating is only because I am horrible with hair and I thought I would get more in depth instruction. However, this is a great book for the basics of hair care for children. Instead of hair washing time being a chore, it has become something of a treat to my daughter.

I have learned to take my time and respect SOME of her decisions about styles, and I have also learned to trust myself when it comes to her hair.

4-0 out of 5 stars beautiful book for kids and parents...
Fun format and plenty of beautiful high quality photos. This is a great book for non-nappy haired parents of nappy-haired kids. It is well written with fun style ideas your children will love. Makes hair styling funner and more POSITIVE! Good book to have in your collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Aww this book is too cute!
I received this book as a gift from my cousin. This was a well thought out gift. The photographs are soooooooooo cute. My daughter enjoys looking at the photograps of the children's natural hair styles. It is a good book to use to enforce positive hair images in African American children. I enjoyed reading outloud the positive words that described each style to my daughter. This book includes instructions on how to do each hair style. A good book to have in your hair library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book with Great Pictures
This book has some good ideas and wonderful color pictures.
Each time that I do my 5 yr. old's hair she gets the book and picks out a picture of a style then I replicate that style for her hair.
The styles are very simple. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Tooth
Arthur's Tooth by Marc Brown is a book that any kid that's about to loose a tooth would enjoy. In this story Arthur is the last to loose a tooth. He feels behind and awkward for it. Everyone tries to help him loose it, but nothing ever succeeds. Finally, Francine, the bully of the group, that hassles Arthur for not loosing a tooth yet, jabs Arthur in the mouth, and knocks his tooth right out!

Arthur was my favorite character in this story. Arthur felt embarrassed that he had never lost a tooth before, and while everyone else was loosing their baby teeth, his was just getting loose. Poor, innocent Arthur. But at the end he shows them that he's no different. Read the book to find out the details!

5-0 out of 5 stars Losing A Tooth
Another great book from the Arthur series. The book is about Arthur, the last student in the class to lose his first baby tooth. Some of the other students in the class make fun of Arthur, because he still has all his baby teeth. Other students try to help Arthur's tooth fall out, but nothing works. Finally an accident causes Arthur to lose his tooth. This book teaches children to be patient and to help their friends. It also teaches them that everyone is different. I really like this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars We LOVE the Arthur books!
We are first grade students at the Anna Merritt Elementary School. Our teacher did a Marc Brown author study. She read Arthur's Tooth to us and we loved the book. Javeon and Cory liked the part when Arthur wanted to pull out his tooth with his hand. Nicholas and Jacob liked the part when Arthur lost his tooth. Marissa liked the part when Francine knocked Arthur's tooth out. We hope Marc Brown writes a lot more Arthur stories! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hanging On To Long!
Best Lurlene McDaniel book ever!
I love this book! I could read this book over and over again. I could start on this book right now and it would be okay with me. I am still enjoying this book. It was probably one of the better books I have read so far.
This is the story of a girl named Erin, which her sister Amy died in automobile accident. Erin is taking a lond hard period getting over her sister's death. She has been getting these headaches and been going to a conselor. The counselor still does not know why she is getting these headaches. This book tells of Erin meeting a guy and getting over her sister Amy's death.
Lurlene McDaniel is a brilliant author. She gets the reader into her books. The dialogue was great in the book. She expressed each character and detailed each one.
This book has a happy ending to it. A excellent book.... you have to read it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Time to Let go by lurlene Mcdaniel
The book Time to Let go is a good suspence and romance novel. It is about a girl named erin, who i feel is a well rounded and realistic character. She lost her sister Amy in a car accident a year ago. Ever since her sister died she has been getting really bad headaches. The doctors cannot find a physical reason why they come and what causes them. She begins to see a theripist and at first they cannot find a reasion why they come when they do, and what keeps causing them. eventually they start to come less and less and they find out what is causing them. They begin to work on making them stop completly. To find out why her headaches come you have to read the book.

Erin Bennett has been suffering from pain in her head. The headaches started when her sister Amy died a year ago. When she auditions for a part in the play, ¡§West Side Story¡¨, she gets it. Erin is now the lead in the play, she plays Maria. But when David Devlin gets the part of Tony, Erin¡¦s world goes up-side-down. Her headaches were getting better, but the only thing triggering them was David. Erin was seeing a therapist to help figure out why David was triggering the headaches. Erin really dislikes David in the beginning because she thought he was too obnoxious. Later along the year, Erin finds away to deal with David. She didn¡¦t hate him as much anymore.

I really like this book because it has friendship in the book. Erin and Beth have a really special relationship. At first they barely knew each other. They met each other at the hospital when Amy was in the hospital because of the car accident, and Beth¡¦s mom was receiving a kidney transplant. Even after they left the hospital they still remembered each other. ¡§Erin started to retort but heard someone call her name. She turned to see a girl with short reddish air weaving her way toward her. Erin¡¦s eyes narrowed. She knew the girl but couldn¡¦t quite place her.
It¡¦s me, Beth Clark. Remember? From the hospital last year. My mother needed a kidney transplant, and your sister was in a comma.¡¨ In an instant they were great friends.

I don¡¦t like this book because the headaches Erin get are unbearable. They are so painful that my head almost starts hurting. Headaches are the worst way of remembering someone. It is like a prick that never goes away. Sometimes I wish that I could change the book and make it happier. ¡§It¡¦s just that I¡¦m getting this little headache, and if it gets out of control¡K¡¨

My favorite part was when David and Erin were working at the ¡§Special Olympians¡¨. They were both dressed as clowns. I really like this part because everyone¡¦s happy, and at the last meeting with her therapist they found out what was wrong with her. So now her headaches don¡¦t really happen. Not having a headache is a relief from all this pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll Love This Book!
This is a romantic book about a high school couple, who got off to a rocky start. I loved this book! Random House Inc. published the story. The genre of the book was fiction. It was an interesting book and Erin's sister had passed a few months earlier and she had suffered from severe headaches ever since. Erin had met a boy named David at her drama club. They got off to a rocky start, but then they became pretty good friends; going places together, Erin met his parents. She enjoys being with him, but whenever she is around David the horrible headaches come on. Doctors don't know what is wrong with Erin. These headaches that she gets are so horribly intense that they are almost unbearable. Erin seems to always think of her sister while she is with her new friend David, she finally figures out what reminds her of her sister. Read this book to learn if she will ever overcome these horrible headaches. I would recommend this book to somebody who has some type of medical issue, they may be able to relate to what Erin goes through during the story. A person who enjoys reading about romance would like this book too. This book was not only about romance, but it was also entertaining because it made me want to read more. I wanted to learn what was causing her headaches and if Erin and David would stay together.

4-0 out of 5 stars Time to Let Go
Time to Let Go by Lurlene McDaniel is a fiction book about a teenage girl, Erin, who lost her sister, Amy, in a car accident. After the accident Erin started getting headaches and she ended up going to a therapist, Dr. Richardson, to see why she had the headaches. Erin's big question that eventually gets answered is "Do you think I'll ever get well?"
After Amy's death her house became quiet unless her parents were fighting. Erin enjoyed acting and dancing so she went into the school play. She soon met a guy named David who really liked Erin, but she didn't like him.Erin started getting along with him so they started to date. They both were involved in the play and they were the stars of the play. Erin's headaches were less painful when she hung out with David, but that wasn't always the case.
I would recommend this book to teens and adults who like a little romance and medical books. I chose this book because I enjoyed other books by Lurlene McDaniel. This book is 162 pages with lots of action on each page. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars When is Perfect, Perfect Enough?
Though I am not super religious, I have found over and over when it comes to being honest, insightful, and dead on, Christian novels do the best job.

I highly related to the main character Shannon, whose life is being controlled primarily by her mother. Her father treats her like a little kid and doesn't respect her opinion. As her life spins out of control she tries to remain in control by not eating.

The author does a wonderful job in making Shannon a totally believable character. I related to her thoughts of the need to be in control and the way she avoided social situations so she wouldn't have to eat.

The only complaint I would have about the book is that it seems that Shannon was at a pretty low weight. I'm not sure what her height was because the author never mentions it, but it seemed that unless she was pretty short she would have been hospitalized.

But it really was an awesome book.

I also recommend Ashely and Jenn, if you want another very insightful story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Good Read
This is the moving story of Shannon, one of a group of close friends who stick together through everything and love each other a lot. In the story, Shannon believes that she has to be perfect to make up for the way that her sister acts (this chick is horrible--through the beginning of the book, she is at a Christian boarding school). If that isn't enough, Shannon is also anorexic. This story, though fictional, is a great story of friendship and togetherness, one of those books you curl up with and read by the fire. Rue has woven together yet another wonderful tale! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars For Better, for Worse, Forever
This book is about a young teenage girl named April Lancaster who is severely devastated with the loss of her beloved boyfriend Mark Gianni. April's parents decide to take a vacation to the Island of St. Croix to get her mind off things. One day when April was taking a walk on the beach she caught the eye of a young man, 18 year old Brandon Benedict. Both April and Brandon become very close but, April cannot bring up the courage to tell Brandon about her medical problems. April has cancer. Suddenly April's painfull headaches return and her and her family right away fly back to New York. Leaving a lonley and grieving Brandon behind. April is dying. The question is, Will she be able to tell Brandon that he may eventually lose another person that he truly loves and cares for?

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Read!
This book is about a young woman, April, who went on a long vacation with her parents to St. Croix. Her parents brought her there to try to ease the pain, from the recent loss of her fiancé Mark. Mark died in a car crash a few months back, and April thought that she had no reason to live. When April went to St. Croix she fell in love with the cool crisp wind, and the crystal clear water. While she was there she met Brandon, a senior in high school. At first, April didn't want anything to do with Brandon; she didn't even want to leave the house. But little by little, Brandon grew on April. She finally decided to go out to the beach with him, and she had the best time. Brandon was in love with April from the moment that he laid eyes on her. However, April just thought of Brandon as a good friend. After a while April knew she had deeper feelings for him. Especially because Brandon's mother had committed suicide, and April knew how it felt to lose a loved one suddenly. As a little girl, April had a brain tumor, but luckily, surgery fixed it, and the tumor never grew back. But, just when April started to enjoy life again, she started to get very severe headaches. Her parents got very nervous and rushed her back to New York to see her specialist. She left Brandon without an explanation, not even a good-bye, and she regretted it. Did April's tumor start growing again? And if so, will she survive, and be able to see Brandon again? You'll just have to read the book to find out. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes drama!

1-0 out of 5 stars For Better...no for worse!
I absolutely loved "Till Death Do Us Part". I thought it was so touching and so sad and of course I had to read "For Better, For Worse, Forever". So I read it and I have to say I was so disappointed. How could April fall in love w/ Brandon barely a couple months after Mark died?! You don't just fall for another guy after the guy you supposedly were going to spend the rest of your life w/ dies! I just think that's so wrong!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great book

3-0 out of 5 stars Wished it followed the TV episode more closely.
I almost always prefer book versions to their TV counterparts, but it's not true in this case. The "Tummy Trouble" TV episode of Clifford is one of my daughter's favorites, so it was disappointing the get the book and discover that lots of the story had been left out, i.e. Mr. Bleakman's fence and the dogs trying to clean mud from Clifford's backyard.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dumb Doggie
Don't buy this book if you want to help a toddler cope with stomach aches brought on through no fault of his or her own. This story is about Clifford and friends pigging out and making themselves sick--probably a useful message for kids, but not particularly well done. My grandchild, 2 years old, adores Clifford, but in my opinion these books are not terribly well written. I'm sticking like honey to Pooh for life's little lessons.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids will LOVE this book!
My 8-year old daughter was having trouble with her reading. It got to the point where she hated picking up a book, which distressed me greatly because I am a compulsive reader. However, she did love to watch the shows on PBS kids and when she spotted this book at a school book fair she was wild with excitement.

Originally I balked when she asked me to buy it. I thought it was below her grade level, but we bought it anyway and she enjoys it immensely! It is based on an actual episode form PBS and has a very good lesson built in as well. It reads easy, but is not boring.

What a pleasure it is to see her reading enthusiastically again. We now own several Clifford books, she has progressed to more difficult chapter books, and we are all reading happily ever after!

Don't deny your child something that can change them forever.

4-0 out of 5 stars great reading !! captures kids attention.
My 4 yr old is like all other PBS watchers. He became an instant admirer of Clifford.I searched bookstores and they just have beginners topics like - 'Cliffords manners' or Clifford and pals' etc.He didnt like them very much.Since this book is based on an actual episode that they showed on TV,my son was even more excited to read this again and again. It has sure made him more interested in reading and i'm sure ur kids will too.But be prepared to read this to them multiple times. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Frightening illustrations
The text of this picture book for young children about a parent's cancer is fine--it addresses many common concerns of children with cancer in the family (feelings such as anger and fear, questions such as "Did I cause the cancer?"). However, the book's amateurish illustrations undercut its reassuring message. The images of the characters, especially those of the ill mother, are distorted, and their colors are murky and dark. The overall effect is disturbing--even frightening--especially for young children. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You Got Me in a Cold, Cold, Sweat!
Our five-year old loves the Henry and Mudge series, and this is a fine example of its appeal. When Henry gets sick, he and Mudge share popsicles and crackers (well, Mudge gets the crackers; he gets the popsicles). Butthen, Mudge awakes and seems strangely subdued.

The family takes him tothe vet, where, in one of the funnier scenes, the anxious dog sheds allover the waiting room. The happy ending, simple yet interesting structure, and depiction of a boy and dog's mutual love make for an entertaining bookfor young children.Repetition of some words and satisfying pictures tiedto the story will help the new reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun!
Mudge is a personal favorite of my 8 year old son (a reluctant reader). The love Henry has for his drooling dog, Mudge is sweet. In this book, Henry gets a cold and must stay in bed doing puzzles, reading books andeating crackers. By the end of the book Henry has recovered but alas, Mudgehas caught Henry's cold and no longer feels well enough to share crackerswith Henry. Short chapters with a controlled vocabulary. We enjoy theadorable pictures. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Older girl who wish she had this book when she was young.
My daughter is 9 will be 10 soon. She is a very sweet and ahonest little lady who loves everyone and only wants the best for theworld. We live in the city and she has a lot of friends in her schooland at her parents work place, but she can't go out side by herself. So we decided to buy a house in the suburb so she can experience alife of choices. I was on the internet picking out some books for herone day and this book was recommended to me for her. I read the bookfirst and really enjoyed the insight that these young people had. Itinspired me to read this with my daughter and experience all thewonders and different situations that girls go through every day oftheir lives. I hope more parents will take the time and read thisbook with their daughter (especially single fathers) they may get somehelp from this book about their daughter. My husband has read thisbook with our daughter and it has helped their relationship. Otheryoung ladies who have read this book should share this with othergirls who may not have read this book. All and all this book was agood idea and I thank the writers and the publishing house forsharing.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!
This is a great book to read when you're bored, curious about something you know would be in that book, or if you just feel like being creative! You find out that you're not the only one that's worried about something. I'm 12, I got this book when I was 10, and have read it about a million times! I would reccomend this book to girls between the ages of 8-16!

5-0 out of 5 stars Girls, You're Gonna Love This Book!
Hey, I'm Caitlin and I'm 11. I've read this book many times and it's very good! It has things to do when you're bored, make-up tips, and ways to help the environment, plus lots more. I loved this book and later I think I'll get the 2nd and 3rd book which you should look at too. Although not many people have reviewed this book, it's great and you should definatly read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Awesome Book!
I am going to move 300 miles away this summer, and I was beginning to think I would never make friends-then I picked up this book. Reading the stories, it made me feel like there are other girls like me who are interested in the same things as I am!!! I now feel like I am not alone in this world- there are plenty of people facing the same situations and dilemmas as I am every single day. I especially liked the "New Kid on the Block" entry (for obvious reasons) and the "Home-Made Beauty Recipes" entry. I would recommend this to any girl anywhere, and if you love it like I do, check out Girls Know Best 2!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This a fantastic every-girl-should-read book!
This was a great book, full of samples of different kinds of writing, and good advice on, as they say, just about everything. From babysitting to eating disorders, from the enviroment to depression, this is a wonderful can't-put-down book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Time Capsule
In Miami, Florida seventeen-year-old twins Alexis and Adam are entering their final year of high school and are invited to a first-grade reunion. When they were six, they wrote down what they wanted to do when they grew up and put it in their teacher's time capsule. Now, they're dumbfounded to read what they wrote: Alexis wanted to help people and Adam wanted to be a fireman. However, that dream was shattered when Adam was struck with leukemia and the whole family fell apart.

Adam's leukemia is now in remission, but sadly the twins' parents are so busy working that they don't have much time for them or each other. Alexis can't even persuade them to go on a vacation to Disney World. Unfortunately no one is prepared when Adam gets sick again. Will his health improve, or will he lose his battle? And can Alexis save the family?

This book made me think about all the children in the world who are dealing with life-threatening illnesses. There is a freshman at my school who had leukemia when she was little and she immediately came to mind. If you like reading inspirational stories about young people, read THE TIME CAPSULE to find out what happens to Adam and his family.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Time Capsule
I am a big fan of LM's books, and this one was great as well. The plot line was the usual, a teen with so much going for him gets lukemia, loses his girlfreind, etc. But this book was unique because it was about twins. Alexis feels guilty that Adam is sick while she's heathly, she doesn't know how she'll deal with losing him because they are so close. One thing I thought was weird, though, was that there was no mention of a bone marrow transplant. In most of LM's lukemia books, the subject of a bone marrow transplant is almost always brought up, and it is always said that transplants work best between identical twins. So since Alexas and Adam were identical twins, I felt sure that she would at least be tested for the transplant. But it was never even mentioned. I found that really odd. But still, it was a really good book, and a must for LM fans.

This is a very touching story of a set of twins, Alexis and Adam Chappel. They have been very close since birth, and when Adam's leukemia relapses, Alexis is devistated. At first Adam doesn't tell his family that the cancer has returned. This book talks about friendship, romance, and the sad truth that sometime or other, we all have to let go.
I loved this book, and I hope you do too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to read!!
My son demands that I read him lots of books and it always makes me happy when he picks this one out. Its great fun to read. I think I enjoy it more than he does. You can really get into the rhyme and rhythm trying new ways each time you read it. The story is funny as well. I've probably read it a hundred times and haven't gotten sick of it yet.

4-0 out of 5 stars Farm Flu Review
Farm Flu is a sweet little book about a boy and his sickly livestock. I think that the rhyme is good, but the story is even better. And how charming is the repeated text "I know just what my mom would do / if it were me who had the flu."? My little son requests this book a LOT, and I am only too happy to oblige him. ...
