5-0 out of 5 stars Some Just Continue To Be Blind & Don't Want Truth!
This book is a must for Christian parents. The tricks and schemes that the enemy uses are so sneaky, and will go unnoticed by those not looking to or obeying God. Of course, a book like this will not make sense to many people of the world, who have not accepted Christ as their Lord, and Savior. It's quite alarming to see so many adults ignorant of the devices the enemy will use against their children, to destroy them in any way that he can. All's that can be said here is, if they can't see it so blatantly being portrayed in games, cartoons and other childrens items, they will miss it too when it comes in the forms of people, and other things quite unimaginable. If we only knew how many witches and warlocks teach in the school system alone, we'd be running to get our children out of the schools or systems that their in. Oh, I pray that we would wake up!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Like Lambs To The Slaughter
Although a bit out of date by now (It was written in the 80s), Michaelsen's Like Lambs To The Slaughter provides signposts for occult influences on children that every parent should be aware of. Contrary to some of the other reviews on this page, what Michaelsen points out is both true and alarming. One may call it paranoid to consider cartoons such as the Smurfs occultic in content, but when the Smurfs feature Gargamel standing in the middle of a pentagram calling down a curse in the name of Beelzebub-- others would call it discerning. If you can get this book, get it. Though out of date, it will be helpful to you as you raise your children. I hope Michaelsen updates her work soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Author is a light in the darkness!
Excellent!- to the critics- Occult themes are in cartoons. In certain children this draws them into experimenting in the occult. Any involvement in the occult is dangerous. This is biblical;GOD forbides it. All other religions being talked about in this book are not truth; as JESUS said he was the only way to the FATHER;This is only true Christanity; the author's faith. Therefore she is not paranoid. Critics - you need to study fundamental Christianity. It has a belief system which, obviously, you know nothing about. You need to research it.

I commend the author being a light in the darkness. PARENTS: This book helps you to monitor what is being put into your child's head. If you don't monitor them, this book will show you the deadly spiritual consequences.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wretched nonsense
This poor woman really is convinced that evil manifests itself in cartoons like the Smurfs and the Carebears. Dungeons and Dragons, Star Trek toys, and even Yoga.... are also targets of her extremist anti-Eastern garbage. Her hair-trigger intolerance is deeply disturbing. However, if you are looking for a good laugh, this book is for you. If you are looking for facts about other religious faiths or innocent practices, drop this book and run....run fast and far. Christianity isn't about the sort of hate and fear she is victim to in this book. Her presentation is childlike and based solely on opinion. It is as if she is writing a fictional novella from the perspective of a social outcast. A hatemonger.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is HILARIOUS.
Don't get me wrong -- in terms of its factual basis this book is ridiculous, but it's a GREAT read. The author is paranoid beyond belief: the carebears represent the 7 chakras of eastern mysticism, Dungeons and Dragons supposedly provides textbook examples for summoning demons, and Yoda is part of a global plot to turn our children into communists. One chapter on Ouija boards actually cites The Weekly World News as factual proof that they're physically dangerous. A laugh riot. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Endorsements
The following endorsements are found on the back cover of From Grief to Glory:

"To be healed from grief and loss is to be led by God gently and gingerly along the path of pain others have trod. James Bruce does this so powerfully and poignantly in his excellent book so full of history and heart."
- Joni Eareckson Tada, Best-selling author and founder of Joni and Friends

"I can say, from the perspective of a pastor, that this book has significant value for ministering to Christians who have lost children. I have been moved to tears while reading it. The book is useful, among other reasons, simply in reminding us that so many of God's faithful ministers have suffered in the same way."
- James M. Boice, Late pastor of Tenth Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia

"My heart resonates with this book. It instructs and inspires. It comforts and convicts. The pages pulsate with the wisdom and hope of saints down through the ages. They comfort us with the comfort they received from God (2 Corinthians 1:4). This is as it should be."

Tim Stafford answers the kinds of questions I wish I'd had someone to ask when I was a teen. And he gives the kind of answers a kind, Godly big brother would give.

I've loaned the book out to lots of teens in various church Youth Groups, and the pages are well-worn.He covers dating, sex, homosexuality and lots of other issues that are real important to teens and some college students.I can't imagine being without it.I just wish it weren't out of print. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Gone But Not Lost
This book was recommended to me by a good friend who had survived the death of her daughter in a car accident. I had been searching for a book on grief since the loss of my wonderful 20-year-old son, Adam, in a car accident on March 1, 2002. So many books overwhelmed me with too much information.

Gone But Not Lost gave me simplified, practical advice combined with scriptures. Surviving the death of a child leaves us in a surreal state and our attention span is almost non-existent. These shorter chapters allowed me to read and heal at my own pace without getting bogged down in long, wordy chapters.

I highly recommend David W. Wiersbe's book to all who have lost a child of any age.

5-0 out of 5 stars Answers a lot of those unanswerable questions.
Written with the Bible as a comfort zone, this book answers a lot of questions that you have about the death of your child. Having a child that died in an auto wreck and being a divorced parent, I have had no close human companionship to help me through these rough days. I am just now able to pick up the book and read it after receiving it 6 months ago. This book has helped me through many lonely times and answered many many questions. After the inital shock wears off and the questions go unanswered, this book will give you the insight that you need. You may not be able to read it initally but I promise when the time comes - you will be able to pick it up and read it. Relief is what this book offers. You can take it or leave it but you need to read it. It is wonderfully written and cuts deep. I am able to pick it up and read a couple of chapters, cry, pick it up again and continue on. My life is looking up and this book has helped. Thank you Mr. Wiersbe for helping me see brighter days. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Released from Shame
It is hard to believe that a book like this exists. Many pages are filled with sorrow and pain yet there is a hope that pain like this, once identified can be released. And that this expression of release is conveyed in an honest realistic fashion that will probably needed to be faced over and over again until the toxicity is greatly reduced.God is the key. Honesty is the coarse. Freedom is the goal.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you suspect you have been shamed, read this book
This was an excellent book. It helps remove the blindfolds from your eyes so you can see how being brought up in a dysfunctional family affects you. She makes you feel like she knows what it is like to feel like everybody else is "different" and "better" than you. She gets to the root of how people wind up feeling that way. She also exposes tends in churches that tend to promote an unhealthy Christian experience. By this I mean she draws distinctions between a healthy well balanced church and a church that keeps people in bondage. She is sympathetic and understanding and she gives her own life story. One great thing about the book is that it gives solutions and a way up and out of shame! I definitely recommend her, as well as "Pain and Pretending" by Rich Buhler (perhaps out of print), "Boundaries" by Henry Cloud and John Townsend and "Changes that Heal" by Henry Cloud. I have bought at least three copies of Sandra Wilson's book and have recommended it to others!

5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful, fantastic
Finally someone that understands me. I've always wondered why I felt different. Sandra Wilson finally explains it in simple English, because she's been there done that. I have bought this book and given it to 3 friends who now also understand what it feels like to be known and understood. For one couple it saved their marriage. "If you've enver felt like a a caterpillar in a butterfly world" this book is for you. It deals with dysfunction in a practical problem solving context. Not woe is me, but Praise the Lord you can live a full life "released from Shame."

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for "catepillars" desiring to be butterflies
I thought this book was excellent! Great content, presented in a personal way that lets you know that this is not just "theory" to the author, this was/is her journey as well. I recommend taking the time to do some of the suggested exercises as they will stretch your growth potential and exercise your "wings." Great Read! Great for personal growth! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Try again
This book was required reading for a religion class at my school. It had a good intent and a fairly bright outlook on life however as a teen i found it patronizing. You will be presented with an idea and it will be defended to some success however in the next chapter it will very often contradict it's own ideas as if they had never been stated. It's outlook on life is flowery like you would tell a child but lacks the real world as it's defece. This is a book for troubled youth, for someone overcoming an assult and needs something overly simplistic and nice on the rebound. My belief is that the world doesn't fit in the box presented by this book. I also didn't like the little bells and whistles through this book it's like a web sight with to many sponsers, anamated pictures with little comments through the entire book which do nothing but distract the reader. Under no circumstances should this be required reading. Also i have never seen so many lists outside of death row in texas.

5-0 out of 5 stars What an awsome book!
This is a wonderful, wonderful, book! I attend a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A), and large divisions have been created in my church as a result of the conservative members condemming spirituality, saying that it is "too new age." But reading this book, written by a Presbyterian minister, convinced me that the denomination is not as chaotic as my church has made it appear to be! Even if you're not Presbyterian, or even Christian, I strongly recommend this book. Almost everything that Grimbol said, I agreed with completely! In fact, I was dissappointed when the book was over! I wanted to say, "Come on, say more wonderful things!" If you're unsure about buying this book, I strongly recommend it - you won't be dissappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book
I am a lay youth leader, and I picked this book as a possible resource. I wish books for "adults" were this clear and insightful! Pastor Bill outlines what spirituality is in lovely poetic language. He leads us on a journey of knowing who we really are. Then he leads us to find ways to express our deeper purpose in God. Easy to read with well thought out exercises. He always finds a great metaphor to clarify his thoughts. I can't recommend it enough to teenagers and adults alike. ... Read more

From the bestselling author of A Treasury of Miracles for Women comes an encouraging collection of true stories to remind teens that God is genuinely involved in their lives. "No one understands me." "No one cares about how I feel." Every generation of teenagers believes this is true. Now, Karen Kingsbury has put together a book that tells them differently--that far from ignoring them, God is always in their lives, and the stories in A TREASURY OF MIRACLES FOR TEENS are the proof. Compiled from true accounts collected over the past few years, here are tales about angels in action, modern- day miracles, and powerful answers to prayer that will inspire teens by reminding them that God is only a heartbeat away. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great reading
This is a very mis named book. It is not just for teens, but for anyone who needs a ray of sunshine in their life. In each of these true stories, we see God intervening in the lives of young people, often through angelic appearances, in such a way that lives are saved, or more importantly, changed. A runaway boy finds his way home, a hapless girl is able to escape an attacker in a way that could only be a miracle. A sister's prayer for her brother gives them extra time together. A girl who should not have even lived regains the use of her legs.

***** Real life is filled with the incredible, the miraculous. Many people want to dismiss the coming generations as being godless heathens. As long as there are a few who sparkle as the ones in this book, and as long as there is a God who has such great love for them, though, there is hope and there is joy. *****

I found this book says the things that I feel in my heart. I gave it to my daughter for Christmas and then ordered one for myself. Buy it, read it and give one to your child.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection of poems. Every parent must read.
Each of the poems in this book express my thoughts, desires and hopes as a parent when my children were young and now that they are adults. It is an excellent collection of poems and a wonderful gift for your children. I would recommend that every parent read this book first and then give another copy to every one of your children. Keep your copy and re-read it often.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of the best books of poems I've ever read.
I am an English teacher and I have a great love of poetry. I was very moved by the collection of poems in this book. It brought tears to my eyes. It is a very appropriate book for anyone that has a child about to leave home for any reason. The poems say things we forget to say and things we have trouble putting into words. Since I have two sons I have to be careful how sentimental the book sounds, but I was very pleased with it.I recommend this book highly.

Book Description

Helps teenage girls make direct contact with their inner Goddess energy.
* Includes guided meditations, visualizations, journaling exercises, Goddess games and rituals.
* Represents a culturally diverse selection of Goddess personifications including Egyptian, Afro-Cuban, Asian, North American, Greek, and Roman.
* Complete astrological tables for Sun, Moon, Venus, and Mars enable girls to find their personal goddess allies.
* Written by the author of Love Planets (more than 50,000 sold) and Teen Astrology.

In The Goddess in Every Girl, M. J. Abadie teaches teens to get in touch with their own personal Goddess energy and allies. To the young woman seeking external inspiration for her journey of self-definition, gaining a "big-picture" perspective from the feminine divine can be an incredibly validating experience. To date, though, no book on the market relates these myths of female power to the teen experience.

In The Goddess in Every Girl, complete astrological tables for Sun, Moon, Venus, and Mars let girls look up their own personal goddess allies in the areas of life purpose, emotions and body awareness, love nature, and energy and passion. With more than 50 activities, such as a guided journey to the Goddess center, directions for keeping a Goddess journal, breathing exercises, meditations, and instructions on how to create a sacred ritual space, The Goddess in Every Girl shows teens how to build a personal pantheon for their own empowerment and self-transformation. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Up on Ebay after 10 miniutes
I concider myslef a very well-read Pagan. Over time, I have learned how to distinguish the fact from the author's imagination. And, I have to say, most of this book fell under the latter catogory.

It's so childish, and demening to Paganisam. The author did not even get her facts straight with regaurds to the origin of Goddess Religions. To me, it sounded like she was saying
" Oh, everything went fine and well while we belived in and worshipped the Earth Mother. Everything was about Women. But, then some evil jerks with their One True Man God came along and ruined it all. the end."
Really, the origins of the Earth Mother ("Gaia") are much harder to trace then she made it seem. In fact, most ( if not all) of the aincent people belived in Panthons ( Many Gods). The author also called Panthons something like Paetheons... Odd. Maybe I am just misinformed, but whatever.
It did have a few alright excrsises in the book to get closer to the Goddess, though.. Some of them where just downright perverted. " Get in frount of a mirror, take your clothes off, then with a friend or by yourself, get some body paint, and paint eachother."
But, that's just my oppinion.
So, if you're looking for a misinformitive book, buy this.
If not, I reccomend looking at "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margret Alder to learn the true roots of modern Paganisam and Goddess worship.

5-0 out of 5 stars would make a great text for a teen class.
This is a well written, researched and factually sound book on the religion of the Goddess without getting weighed down in Wiccan dogma by going straight to the source. It really delivers its content in a creative and practical way.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Practical Benefits of Belief..
are what you will find in the pages of this book. One afternoon when I was cleaning out my storeroom, I came across a copy of "The Power Of Positive Thinking" in paperback. The edition was from 1956 and had been my father's. I opened the old, yellowed, dog-eared copy and began reading and found that Peale had taken the concepts of an earlier work by Dale Carnegie and elaborated on them with a spiritual twist.

This book can be life-changing, period. If you read it with an open mind and heart and follow the simple and very practical exercises in its pages, you will be changed forever in a very special way. It has stood the test of time and critics, both from the "anything goes, new age" people who say it is too conservative to the "Bible-pounding fundamentalists" who decry its message as heretical. Peale shows us a God who loves us, who is more than ready to give us "every good thing." Yet, if you are not religious in the conventional sense, you will find a new way of thought that will bring peace and harmony to your life through your greatest gift: the power of your mind.

More than just a book, it is a guide to living your life with a maximum of joy. I thank Dr. Peale for his wonderful gift to all of us, "The Power Of Positive Thinking." (P.S. If you find this book a little too heavy in religious emphasis, try reading Dale Carnegie's "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" which does a great job in a more expanded fashion and is full of examples and practical steps).

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY motivating FANTASTIC book!
This book will change your life! You will never go through any situation the same way again! Your thinking will change, your actions will change and all for the better! This book contains the solution to every problem there is and ever will be. If you are seeking to build your faith to overcome obstacles in your life this book will do it. This book reminds me of the fact that anything is possible with God! I almost didn't buy this book because of some comments I'd read on certain Christian websites about the author. But I had the condensed version at home and loved it, so after reading all 45 reviews on this book with 99.9% of them being in favor of the book I went ahead and bought it and I'm VERY glad I did! I am over halfway through with this book and I count it 2nd in importance only to the Bible! Do yourself a favor that will last a lifetime and buy this book NOW!

4-0 out of 5 stars "Nothing on earth is greater..."
"than the human mind in potential power." NVP

A Peale classic!!! Another spring cleaning survivor! My copy has been rained on etc. but not ruined! I'm not throwing this one out.

I first read this many, many moons ago in college. My father had passed away during that time and I was unsure I would be able to complete my studies. My mind was flooded with so many worries. My sister gave me this book to read and whenever I would regress to my woe is me mode of thinking, she would snap, "Go read your positive thinking book."!

I've since read other Norman Vincent Peale books and they're all written on the same lines. I would classify them as self-help books but upon a christian foundation; Norman Vincent Peale was a protestant pastor of Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. The power of positive thinking was published in 1952.

My only criticism, and the reason NVP fell from a 5 star grace to 4 is that his ideas fit too much into the traditional American idea of working your way to success and not into the biblical one. The goal of the christian is to become more christ-like in character, not to become a financial success in the American marketplace. But surely there are some people who are genuine christians and are successful that way. But the main thing is the inner character which should reflect Christ's.

The sixth chapter on "fuming and fretting" contains my personal favorite verse to meditate on when my mental balance is being tipped: "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee"-Isaiah 26:3. Obviously, I accepted and applied Norman Vincent Peale's practical advice to meditate on and repeat that verse as an antidote to such a mental state. It works for me but might not work for others, if you do not fully comprehend what that 'Thee' (God) is all about. If you don't know who the biblical God is, grab a Bible and read! It's the only book I've read ten times from cover to cover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful...A Classic!!
This book helps one at home and at work!

There are always two ways of seeing a situation, any given situation. Peale puts it in simple language and does not try to loose the reader in psycho-babble.

GREAT BOOK~~

4-0 out of 5 stars the power of praying
This book learns you techniques for positive thinking, based on belief in God and the techniques of praying. The main message that this book wants to bring to you is that if you want to improve your life, visualize what you want and pray for it.
I know a lot of people who found extra power in this book to fight against the misfortunes of life. If you belief in God and want to explore how praying can improve your life, I can strongly advice this book. But this is where the book stops. A better title for this book would be "the power of praying", or "the power of believe". The word thinking in the title is confusing, thinking is more then praying and believing.

Personally I agree with the fact that the way you think, can influence your life a lot, but it is also important to learn how you should think. Especially, you should learn to take the responsabilities for what you think and how it influences how you feel. This book fails on learning you these consequences of your thinking. And this is essential in order to take the correct actions to improve your life. I certainly agree that belief in God (and pray to God) can help, but you definetely need some additional techniques, not found in this book. Books doing and excellent job here are the following books : "The Resilience Factor: 7 Essential Skills for Overcoming Life's Inevitable Obstacles" by Andrew Shatte, Karen Reivich and
"Your Erroneous Zones" by Wayne Dyer. Remark that these books present techniques independent of your belief in God. I would strongly advice these books. If you are a believer in God, you can buy "The power of Positive thinking" in addition to the books I just mentioned.

I wish everybody a lot of success in the exciting and never ending process of improving your life. ... Read more
