5-0 out of 5 stars Help for Moms who feel lost and frustrated
This book was wonderful ! The short chapters are easy to read for us busy-Mom's. The book made me feel like I'm not alone in raising a difficult child. The book was filled with real stories from the author. I recognized myself and my son in the everyday problems. Also, the author offers practical suggestions and short prayers to help ! The book recognizes the difficult parts of parenting an ADHD child, and at the same time offers hope & encouragement ! I'm going to read it again and I won't lend this book out (since it's invaluable to me). I wish she wrote a book on parenting teenagers ;) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on God's Will
This is one of my favorite books and I also admire the artist for his music talent. There are many authors in the Christian market who are just in it for the money but its clear that MWS is in it to guide and encourage people. The book is well written and he drives the point home without being preachy while making it seem as if he's right there talking to you.

Its for anyone who wants guidance in their life and to know God's will. There are four parts. The first covers a place to grow, to belong to, to make a difference, its basically about find a place to "bloom." The second is Purpose and about finding purpose in your life, the third is passion in your life. What are you passionate about? Is it music or something else? The last part is about God's plan in your life. If your a Christian seeking God's will then I'd really reccomend this book, I'd definitely reccomend it to all regardless of your age.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your Place In This World
I have now bought over a dozen copies of this book by Michael W. Smith. Every person without exception has said the same thing. They all felt it spoke to them. Michael "walks the walk" and it shows. I'm back to buy 3 more copies and Amazon.com, you'd better keep 'em in stock for me! :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great statement of personal faith
Though not as good as his work "Time to Be Bold" (sp.), Michael does a great job of letting you into his world and showing you what God has done in his life. Michael's books excel at making you feel like he is talking just to you. He makes you feel special. He has great sections on how to deal with hard times and some very practical steps to help you grow in the Lord. He has a great love and belief in the power of God's Word. This is perhaps the genius that undergirds this work and his other books as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one book that I recommend to everyone!
When I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. it really helped me realize where I was with my relationship with GOD. It also helped re-light my fire for the LORD!!!! I can not say enough about this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful
A powerful book that gives information ,guidelines and information that relates to all who are looking for their place in this world. Also relates life stories that intertwine with his life and life in general. Highly recommend this book and have bought several as gifts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars About a boy - An unforgettable book!
I picked up this book, intrigued by the picture on the front of an Amish buggy on a lonely road in Amish Country. I was just amazed at the heart in this book. You turn the pages and your heart just fills with the plight of Samuel and his parents as they try to get help for Samuel and his long hospitalization. Robert J. Hastings is just so tender in his dealings with Samuel's parents; who take turns in the book, through Bob Hastings interviews, talking about the trials and troubles they go through. I was struck at the innocence and humility of Oba and Lorene. They were just like small children having to deal with all the ugly things of this world; hospital bills, pettiness, uncaring people. Through their ordeal however we are uplifted as the doors swing open for them! The strangers that open their homes and hearts to them. The miraculous survival of Samuel. The charity of Precious Moments artist and creator Sam Butcher who creates a commemorative Amish button that is sold at Hallmark stores and nets the family $20,000. I found their whole story so touching, more so because it was true. This family had to completely trust in the kindness of strangers and this they found in abundance! Read it, you will love it. I immediately bought six more copies and gave them away to people who had a special place in my heart. I now have a special place in my heart for Samuel. It is a beautiful book!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent book
If you are reading this you are probably interested in buying it. I really suggest you do. I knew the author personally, he was my pastor. He was a great man, writer and individual. Unfortunately he died several years ago, but part of him still lives on through his ability to touch others with his tremendous ability to write. Bob, as we called him, writes about an Amish boy who is caught in a threshing machine. A boy named Samuel. His father first thinks him dead, but after hearing a slight moan they rush him to the hospital. Samuel lives. His condition allows him to have a phone in his house (which usually isn't permitted in Amish homes) for medical emergencies. It isn't just a tale about a boy, but how we put our faith in Jesus to heal not only our broken body, but our broken spirit. It is an inspirational story, and if you like it, I suggest Bob's other books which are Tinyburg Tales, Tinyburg Revisited, Nickel's Worth of Skim Milk, Penny's Worth of Minced Ham (both about growing up in the Depression), and several others. His work is always uplifting, getting you to focus on God, not on yourself and your own problems. I highly recommend anything he has ever written, because I have read them all. They are all a gift, just as the man himself was to me. Bob, you're missed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing piece of work delving into this sensitive subject
As a mother who lost her twin daughters, I found this book very healing. The book is written very simply, with personal touches as well as Bible verses that lift some of the pain and suffering away from the heart. Waltman's intermingling of her own journalling, bible verses, and followup "letters" to the reader are woven together beautifully to create a warm, comforting experience while reading. A must-read for anyone who must walk this painful journey.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth reading, keeping and sharing when in need.
I myself, have not suffered the death of a child, but I do know a number of women who have been through this very traumatic experience. What drew me to "In A Heartbeat" in the first place, was that I have learnt one very valuable lesson through these friendships. Try as I might, I cannot help these mothers because I cannot even begin to comprehend their pain. Only another woman who has gone through the same experience can truly reach out and offer compassion, understanding and comfort. This Dawn Waltman does "In A Heartbeat." This beautiful little book is succinct, healing in it's honesty, gentle in it's perceptions and throughout the author has quoted verses from the Bible that have spoken to her and helped her through her pain and anguish. "In A Heartbeat" offers healing to those who have suffered the tragic loss of a child and understanding to those like myself, who so desperately want to reach out and comfort our family and friends. This book is worth reading, keeping and sharing when in need. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The unmentionable brought to light
This is an excellent book that brings the unmentionable subject of sexual abuse by Christians into the light of day. This book makes it abundantly clear that sexual abuse does happen, by real, committed Christians and that pretending that it doesn't, far from minimising the problem, actually allows it to prosper like a fungus growing in a damp, dark place. Many books on sexual abuse focus on helping the survivor but ignore the abuser and those friends and family that surround victim and abuser, however, Carolyn Heggen provides practical insight into help the survivor, the perpetrator and the families of both. The chapter on pastoral abuse contains very useful information and the sections that show how religious belief can actually contribute to abuse make a lot of sense. The ways in which churches can help bring healing and prevent or continue to foster abuse are made clear and there are examples of ways of worship that can help survivors. I think that much of this book (especially the chapter in repentence, restitution, forgiveness and reconciliation) would apply to not just situations of sexual abuse but any sexual sin. I can't say enough good things about this book, it is a difficult topic but it is covered thoroughly, sensitively and practically. ... Read more

More than ever today our families need to be surrounded and upheld by a power greater than our own. PRAYER provides that power. And you can learn to be more effective in praying for your loved ones.

From her many years of experience and ministry in the area of prayer—and from her own personal experience as a wife, a mother, and grandmother—Evelyn Christensen shares what God has shown her about what can happen when we pray for our families.

What Happens When We Pray for Our Families shows us:
• How to hang on in faith when other family members hurt—even
when God doesn’t seem to hear.
• How to pray to restore family relationships when problems and
misunderstandings arise.
• How to pray for a baby even before birth.
• How to pray for spiritual, emotional, and physical protection for
our children.
• How to pray when a loved one doesn’t know Christ.

Here is a handbook for all who desire God’s involvement in their family matters—from the heart of a parent who knows the power of prayer.

Evelyn Christenson, author of the classic What Happens When Women Pray, is regarded as a leading authority on prayer. Chairman of United Prayer Ministry in St. Paul, Minnesota, she has written extensively on the subject and regularly conducts prayer seminars throughout the United States and abroad. I have enjoyed reading Ann Kiemel's earlier books, and to read this inspirational segment in her life (her unusual adoption of 2 boys)was wonderful.Being a traditional adoptive parent of 3 children myself, I found this book especially intriging. She struggles with miscarriages as many adoptive parents do, but finds great joy in the special way God gives her 2 children to adopt. It was prayer and God's grace that brought 3 children into my family's life so we could adopt them, so I relate to Ann's joy in answered prayer. However, the special twist in these adoptions makes the ordinary, very special.I admire Ann's positive attitude and faith in God in every circumstance. ... Book Description

For nearly thirty centuries the Old Testament Book of Proverbs, attributed to King Solomon, has stood as a living testament to human knowledge and experience: Its pithy sayings have become an intrinsic part of thought and speech, proving as true for our day as for the day they were first written.

Here are fifty proverbs selected to reflect, the many facets and challenges of living -- love, friendship and family, duties and pleasures, times and seasons, wisdom and folly, and the pursuit of virtue. Among them are a number of precepts chosen from the Old Testament Books of Ecclesiastes, also ascribed to Solomon, and the Song of Solomon. The collection also includes maxims from two books of the Apocrypha: the Wisdom of Solomon and Jesus ben-Sirach's Ecclesiasticus -- noted for its epigrammatic thought.

Each proverb is illuminated with a detail of a painting chosen from one of the world's great art museums. The glowing colors and fine detail of medieval, Renaissance, and later artists provide fresh perspectives on the age-old sayings and make this a book to be treasured. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!! A must for teenagers, very helpful to adults.
I read this book in one day, as I could not put it down! Okay, so I was previewing it as a possible supplemnet to our Confirmation class and had a deadline to finish it by, but still, it is really that good! Everything in it is orthodox, so no worries there. And it includes so much about our faith! Stories about Christ, references to scripture, the lives of saints and lining Catholics, all of whose stories are fascinating and inspiring to young Catholics, how people sruggle with and live out their faith, everything! I highly recommend this book for all teenagers, as well as to adults. It is very well written, will not bore you, and holds so much helpful informtaion! A+ ... Read more
