Michael Kilgarriff's Knock Knock joke book is a good book, there are a few jokes that aren't very good but most of the knock knock are cute and if your children like knock knock jokes they will probably love this book and it should keep them entertained but be prepared to hear some of the bad jokes along with the good jokes but the majority of the jokes are cute!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Christmas present!
Kids from 8 to 12 love jokes and this joke book is for them. Easy to read, predictably corny, these jokes will keep them reading and improve their memory skills.

If you have a long car trip ahead or, better yet, your grandchildren do, get them this joke book. It will keep the kids entertained and the driver thankful for those long car naps when he/she doesn't have to "knock-knock".

5-0 out of 5 stars A good book

"I spy a heart, a starfish, a frog, / A towel, a trowel, a taxi, adog;/ Seven horses, a barrel, a duck that is teeny, / Two real feathers, and a surfer's bikini." Now, all you have to do is find these objects in Walter Wick's masterful, crystal-clear, boldly colorful photographic landscapes. I Spy Gold Challenger! collects author Jean Marzollo and Wick's 12 favorite photographs from previous I Spy books, and invents a new series of ways to make children scratch their heads. A fantasy castle with a sand dragon and a medieval battle in progress; a complex city intersection made from wooden blocks and assorted toys; an attic stuffed with junk--each page seems more complex than the last. The seeming simplicity of the task at hand, and the surprising difficulty in finding all the items mentioned in the accompanying rhymes, remains a winning combination. (Click to see a sample spread. 5-0 out of 5 stars hours of fun
Like all of the I spy books, this one offers hours and hours of fun for all ages. Some of the things to be found took days to find, which can be a bit frustrating for some people.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best trip companion for a little kid
This book is as exciting for kids as it is for parents. I bought our first I Spy book for a long (17 hrs) plane flight with my 3.5 year old and it really did the job of entertaining him enough. Without it the trip could have been a nightmare. I recommend it to anyone who needs to keep a child entertained and occupied for a longer period of time.

Each page is a picture if multiple little objects. Under the picture there are several riddles, and kids can spend quite a lot of time looking for the objects. But parents can make addititional riddles--so many objects are hidden or not obvious. And they can have fun too.

The artwork is beautiful and sharp. While older kids can learn to be more observant, younger ones can enhance their vocabulary by learning the name of the objects (with an adult's help , of course).

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific book, challenging for all ages
We have a 2-1/2 yr old daughter who absolutely LOVES the "I Spy" book series. This book is much more involved and difficult than the smaller board books designed for little ones. However, she got the idea of searching for things from the easier board books and soon got bored (pardon the pun). Using this larger version, we can make up lots of games to keep it interesting. Now, she asks us "I spy a ___" and we have to find it. Hard to do with only a few pictures on each page.

We have a lot of fun with it too - and haven't found some of the things after several months! Bottom line: Great book - start with the board books for younger ones and move up to this. make up your own games to challenge them. Enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book!
This is a book of kids' games. It was really fun to play with. The whole book was very hard to do. I had fun with the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book because of all of the creative pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Letters make the world go round!
Hello friends!, I hope that you have had a chance to read this wonderful book. The magic of letters truly comes alive with excitement! For me, my favorite part is all of the silly letters that can be found throughout this outstanding book! I know this book is going to be my favorite for a long, long time. So, now that you have read my review take a moment to read this extraordinary book-anytime-anywhere! Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars I M N X-T-C!
smart! adorable! unexpected! (the book, not my kids...)
This book really has us rolling in laughter. My sons (ages 4 and 6) and I have been playing with an electronic toy: push a letter and the thing says the letter's name. We had been using it to make word sounds -- pressing U R A Q T for "you are a cutie" and so forth. When I saw this book I just had to get it. It is amazingly clever -- and to think it was written in 1968. It's fresh, not at all dated. My sons are very good readers for their respective ages, but it is definitely appropriate for them. I had to explain a phrase or two (they didn't know the word "ecstacy" when they saw X-T-C) but otherwise it was totally on their level. I still crack up reading it, and I've read it at least ten times. The watercolor illustrations are perfect. Stieg conveys a lot of emotion and expression with just a few brush strokes. When a boy sees someone with a lollipop and tells him "I N-V U," you can see the envy.
I won't mind if my kids want to read this one again and again. I M N X-T-C 2!

5-0 out of 5 stars taught me how to read
This book helped me learn to read when i was 3 years old. As long as you know the alphabet you can read this book, which makes it perfect for children who are learning to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the most fun book!
I remembered this book from my elementary school library, and was delighted to find that it had been reprinted. This book is meant to be read out loud and deciphered - our children ages 16 down to 6 were entertained, as were the adults in the house too. This book is just plain fun. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sustained Laughter
We thought this would be a cute book for our soon-to-be five year old grandson. We were in for a treat. This was his first introduction to knock-knocks, and he began laughing harder and harder at each as he discovered the joke. "She was supposed to say 'I need a" but she said "Anita" (Bath, that is!) He giggled and roared, becoming almost breathless with laughter at each new knock-knock. Ten aren't a lot, but they certainly tired him out. What a delight to see! I'd like to see the author write some follow-up books. We've looked at other knock-knock books in the stores, but most of them have many jokes that presume a vocabulary or a cultural literacy beyond that of a five year old. This collection hit exactly the right keys.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I am very disappointed with this book :( I bought it for my 5yr son so I could help him learn some funny knock knock jokes. I thought I was buying a book FULL of fun knock knock jokes, but when it arrived and we first opened it.....we found a little book that looks like it's made for a 2yr old (has VERY babyish pictures and thick cardboard pages)!!! The biggest let down is that is only has TEN knock knock jokes!! Unbelievable. ... I'll just have to suck it up and search for a new knock knock book...

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT LITTLE BOOK OF KNOCK KNOCKS
I've been looking for a simple knock-knock joke book for my 4 and 5 year old nephews for months now...thank goodness this book came along! It only has a handful of jokes (10?)...but they all make sense and they're easy for the kids to remember too. The book has a neat setup. One page asks the question, then the facing page has a flap where you flip it over to reveal the punchline. Very cute. Much better than any of the "greatest" knock knock joke books I've seen. It's a good intro book, but I'd guess that older kids might not be too impressed with it since it is a very simple book. Perfect for my 4 and 5 year old nephews though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Knock Knock
Charming fresh pictures and seriously awful puns adds up to total delight for my five year old.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent-EXCELLENT! First Reader
This very cute book had my three-year old reading it TO ME within 20 minutes. He loved it. We both did. The illustrations are adorable and the thick pages will withstand all that a toddler has to muster. I'm SO happy that I bought this book. ... Read more

Book Description

Kids and jokes, jokes and kids-it's a natural marriage. Now comes the mother of all joke books. Doctor jokes and elephant jokes, banana jokes, robber jokes, dentist jokes, light bulb jokes, chicken-crossing-the-road jokes, teacher jokes, computer jokes, movie star jokes, vampire jokes-they're all here, by the thousands, in a gut-busting, all-encompassing collection of more jokes than any kid could tell in a lifetime.

For the class clown and the family comedian and the shy kid who's looking to make new friends, JOKELOPEDIA is the indispensable resource. There are the old classics and newfangled variations, and every shade of joke, pun and riddle in between, all organized by subject for easy reference. But JOKELOPEDIA also takes it a step further. Included are tips on how to tell a joke (never laugh during the punch line); profiles of famously funny people, such as Jim Carrey, Eddie Murphy, and Lucille Ball; devilish practical jokes to hatch on friends, family, and, best of all, complete strangers; and descriptions of comedic styles and methods, including improvisation, impersonations, and slapstack. For ages 7-12 ... 3-0 out of 5 stars some crude, rude jokes
Bought this book for my daycare group (6-11years). I ripped out several pages which were not appropriate for my group before giving it to them. I didn't like the one about the "pretty lady" who "farts quite loudly" or the one about a frog in the blender (red and green and goes 80 miles an hour). How about "everybody's doin' it...pickin' their nose and chewin'it". Most of these were in a section called " 'Snot Funny". The rest of the jokes were okay. Use your own judgment!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very goofy!
This is the joke book of your dreams! It's as thick as a phonebook, and crammed full of jokes, knock-knocks, and funny stories. In addition, the book has a mess of silly cartoons, practical jokes, suggestions for would-be comedians, silly songs, and spotlights focusing on comedians, funny shows and so forth.

My kids picked out this book, and they love it. It is very goofy! Heck, they aren't the only ones that liked it; I pored over it, and pulled out wonderful jokes for a future speaking engagement. This is a wonderful book, one my entire family recommends to you!

4-0 out of 5 stars You son will love it-- when you're 8 all the jokes are new
As third graders start to learn to manipulate language, jokes and puns are great teachers. Plus, nothing beats a good "Nyuk, Nyuk" with your buddies. My son took this with him to theatre camp and the gang enjoyed it during lunch and breaks. He really liked the features on famous funny people like Jim Carey. You may regret hearing the old jokes a million times, but for a good clean laugh, it's a winner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids love wordplay and it's a brain-builder, too
The flexibility of the English language lends itself to lots of fun stuff as veteran teacher, writer and lecturer Richard Lederer knows so well. Kids love funny jokes and play on words--why not introduce them to the fun side of English.

The "Tairy Fales" shows how Spoonerisms or reversing sounds on pairs of words can yield some madcap results. (And don't forget, Butterfly was once Flutterby, but we just couldn't get it straight.) Riddles are great for long car rides--rhymes will tempt even the most lackluster reader to stretch their abilities. This is a must for homeschoolers and reading to the kids in the evening--fun, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for my 3rd Grader
My third-grade daughter couldn't put this book down! Absolutely loved the "Pun Fun" section and the "'Let's play a Game' said Tom Swiftly" section. The booked is marked up and dog-eared.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for all ages
In this highly entertaining book, punmaster Richard Lederer reveals the tricks of the punster's trade while challenging readers to create original wordplay of their own. In sixteen chapters, with titles such as "Calling on the Homophone," "Puns That Babylon," and "Tairy Fales," the author explains how to use homophones, homographs, and spoonerisms for comical effect while exploring knock-knock jokes, Tom Swifties, and other types of jokes and riddles based on the deft manipulation of sound and meaning. The author presents a clear and simple explanation of each form, provides numerous examples, and then invites readers to create original jokes, rhymes, and puzzles of their own. Language-lovers of all ages will appreciate the wealth of wit and humor presented on these pages. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Is a little knock-knock a dangerous thing?
We got this book because my four-year-old knew only one knock-knock joke (the one with the punchline "orange you glad I didn't say banana?"). Let us just say we were interested in expanding her repertoire!

She adores this book, partly because of its small size (it's barely 3 inches square and fits her tiny hand), and partly because she now knows dozens and dozens of knock-knock jokes.

You may well find that cute for a while, although later on you may have to resist the urge to burn the book. Don't do it - she/he will pass through the knock-knock phase eventually, and you will come back around to finding this book charming.

Anyway that's what I hope!

2-0 out of 5 stars Two stars only because of the pictures...
So you think you're a knock-knock joke fan?

Well, then I strongly suggest that you don't buy this book because it will ruin your taste for jokes the very minute you open it.

I've got nothing bad to say about the pictures, which in fact are quite good.

However, the jokes themselves are all ones I've heard before, and most of them are so stupid that there's absolutely nothing funny about them. It's also not nice that the author copies someone else's jokes and puts them in a book titled as her own.

Take some good advice, and don't waste your money on this book unless you've got nothing better to do with it. If you're really desperate for knock knock jokes, your money would be better spent on books by David Lewman, Joanna Cole, or Tad Hills.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a cute little book
I bought several of these for children's birthday gifts. Every child who got one was very pleased. My nephew told me that his 6-year-old daughter reads this book out loud in the car everywhere they go. These are great jokes for grade schoolers from pre-school to 3rd grade. Even the other seniors in my condo unit think the jokes were funny. I am a retired school teacher and know older children will not appreciate this book as much. A 12-year-old is obviously too old for this book. The pictures are beautifully done. I am very impressed that a child compiled this collection and wrote the introduction. I look forward to more books from this author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable!
We just got this book in the mail today and both my toddlers love it. My 3-1/2 year thinks it's hysterical. It is definitely not for older kids, but for any pre-schooler it's perfect. The jokes are easy to understand for little ones, the pictures are cute, and the tiny size is perfect.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bored Reader in the East
This book was a very boring read, and I wish I had never picked it up in the first place. The jokes themselves are very lame, and I did not appreaciate the humor. I thought that many of the jokes were old, and some of them made no sense at all to me. Those few people that I shared it with, also commented that they were not impressed. I don't wish to sound rude, and I'm sure the author had good intentions, but it did not come out well. Once again, I did not write this to sound nasty, rather, to inform other knock knock joke fans, that this book is a waste of money. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Take your children away from the TV!
As a parent myself I read with shock and amazement the other reviews of this so-called "joke book". Are people so short of ideas they would rather plonk their children (and in many cases, themselves) down in front of the televison and watch, for hours on end, square-eyed and slack-jawed, the antics of a yellow sea sponge? A sea sponge, for the love of God. Take them outside, and discover the real world. There's so much more to discover than some television executive's money spinning cash-cow. Give your children a chance. Avoid this like the plague.

5-0 out of 5 stars MORE SPONGEBOB...PLEASE!
I started watching the tv program with my children and got insteadly hooked. This is just plain 'ol don't-take-yourself-so-seriously humor. As you read, you'll find yourself laughing out loud. I bought it for my children but it's fun for grow-ups as well!

This little book (41 pages, not including title page, and so forth) was a great big hit with my son. Most pages contain one or two wonderful black-and-white drawings of SpongeBob or one of the other Bikini Bottom gang, and a couple of jokes. The reading level is right on for Ages 4-8, and the jokes are funny enough to entertain older SpongeBob fans! My son (a Spongebob fan, like his father!) bought this book with his own money, and he considers it money well spent. We both recommend this book to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spongebob Fun!
This is probably going to sound crazy to most people out there, but I actually bought this book for my 38 year-old boss! He is an AVID Spongebob fan, even going as far as to tape new episodes and make sure to watch Spongebob marathons. He got into it with his 4 year-old son, and they can't get enough. This book was great to put a smile on everyone's face and poke fun at my child-like boss. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but I have reservations
I purchased this book because I needed riddles to include in a newsletter. There certainly are a lot of riddles in here, and the index is very helpful so you can find ones on certain topics, but many of the riddles sound old-fashioned, like they were from the 1960s or so. I assume kids are the ones using this book the most, and I can't imagine that they relate to many of these riddles. Also, many of the riddles are only lukewarm (not that witty or funny). Maybe this isn't a problem for kids. But for an adult writer or riddle collector, I'm not so sure.

4-0 out of 5 stars not the biggest book in the world
i found the book had some great riddles in it,but it did not have the paticular riddle that has had me and sevral others stump for a while. i heard the riddle from an elderly man sometime back. the riddle is. A MAN WITH NO EYES(OR I'S)SAW PAIRS IN A TREE, HE TOOK NO PAIRS,HE LEFT NO PAIRS,HOW COULD THIS BE. I do not know the answer to this riddle, but i would like to buy the book that does. Could you please give some kind of feedback to this. It would be a great thing. thank you clovis
