5-0 out of 5 stars I command you to read this book!!!!
Anyone would be insane to rate this book below five stars. One of the best reads of the year. Meachum has brilliantly tapped into the enigma that is the life of Martha Stewart. If you have kids, buy this book for them. Heck, buy one for yourself as well. You shan't regret it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Intertesting reading tracking the journey of Martha's climb.
Marthat Stewart in herself is an interesting woman. She must have strong leadership to get where she is at. And honestly I was hoping to read more about her leadership capabilities, how she organizes her days in some depth and some of the obstacles she had to arise from. I did learn about her upbringing, all her successful steps and how she buys this and decorates and entertains that. It was good reading, but I was hungry for more and did not feel the price tag was worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes! Yes!
Oh boy, I can't wait to read this book! And that's not just because I helped do the research for it (well, I Xeroxed an article and mailed it to the talented and lovely author, that is.) It's extremely well-written and Virgina Meachum has utterly mastered the difference between passive and active voice (I helped with that, too.) But seriously, it's an insightful and awesome book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a small child...
This book is very cute!!! Now, I must say it isn't much in the way of a story... it is extremely simple, so I don't recommend it for someone over say 4 years old, but for someone under four, it is just perfect... it has beautiful VIBRANT contrasting colors and teaches the differences in small to big... this is a must have for a toddler!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't get my 2-year older daughter away from it
In a world full of special effects and senseless humour on tv and movies, it's great that I discovered this book that not just holds my daughter's attention, but gets her interested that much more into reading. She has her own library practically, and no book has held her total intertest, save "Tarzan:Me and You". Her daycare teacher was reading this to her and I had to get it, she demanded it every day and night. Before eating, before bath, before bed, when she woke up...She loves it! And the artwork is just great! It teaches her about different animals a bit in a not so ordinary way. A wonderful book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another deeply cool Faulkner book!
THE BIG YAWN is a winning combination of a short, easy and clever story line coupled with captivating illustrations - a Keith Faulkner specialty. I used this book in preschool storytime and it received the highest honor bestowed upon children's books at this library by three and four year olds - 'big clapping'. A must-have for both personal and professional collections. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars For older kids
My son requested this book for a book report that he's doing on a famous American. Although the book is listed for ages 9-12, it's really more appropriate for 12 and above. My son found it difficult to stay interested in this book as it's not written in a format that keeps a 9-year-old intrigued. My son is an excellent reader, so being unable to read wasn't the problem. The book gives almost too much detail about incidents and experiences in Henry Ford's life. Short and sweet might have worked better if this book is being marketed for the 9-12 age group.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this book!
An absolutely superb book about the 18th century process of selecting, felling and transporting enormous New England hardwood trees so that they might be fashioned into masts for the king's ships. This book is filled with wonderfully detailed drawings and fascinating information. An example: "A first-class British warship was larger than Faneuil Hall in Boston. It was larger than the State House at Williamsburg in Virginia, larger than any building in the colonies from Maine to Georgia." If only there were more books like this! A must for any classroom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diana Appelbaum thanks her readers
I have been delighted with the wonderful response that this book has elicited from readers, as well as by the generous reception that it has had among teachers, librarians and reviewers. Most recently, it has been honored by YANKEE MAGAZINE, where the editorial staff has included GIANTS IN THE LAND on a list of the best 100 books ever written for children about New England. I hope that parents who enjoy reading GIANTS IN THE LAND with their children will also enjoy reading BULLOUGH'S POND, a book for grownups published under my childhood name, Diana Muir.

5-0 out of 5 stars Giants in the Land
I really like this book because all of it is true and it happened where I live. I like to think that the giants once grew where my house is. It is also special that the giants only grew in New England. The story is good to listen to or to read because it is telling real things in a way that is fun to hear. I particularly like the part about having to put smaller trees and branches underneath to keep it from breaking when the giant falls. My Dad and I have cut down small trees it is exciting when they fall. Learning history through books like this is great. ... Read more
