5-0 out of 5 stars The book cover does not do it justice!
This book should also be marketed as a bilingual book because the English and Spanish vocabulary words are included. I like most of the Baby Einstein books, and this is one of their best. The photographs of objects are bold and colorful and the layout of the book--with similar subjects presented together (e.g. "occupations," "parts of the body") is excellent. Honestly, the book cover does not do this book justice. This book can be enjoyed by all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT word book!
I love this book! It has a great combination of illustrations and photgraphs of different objects that I'm teaching my son (he's 22 months). He loves pointing to the colorful images! I just bought copies for six of my friends with little kids for Christmas! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for parent/child read-aloud!
The creators of different introductory Spanish language books return with a third volume where action takes place at the circus. English/Spanish words accompany observations of circus life and scenes in Say Hola to Spanish, a gentle learning tool which is perfect for parent/child read-aloud.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Say Hola
Who says learning a new language can't be fun? Susan Middleton Elya and Loretta Lopez prove once again how fun it can be in the latest installment of the SAY HOLA series, this one set in a circus. Told in springy verses and highlighted with delightfully silly costumed creatures, the wordplay between english and spanish is as easy as it is playful.

Each Spanish word is accompanied by colorful pictures emphasing the text (trapecistas depict graceful trapeze artists, elefantes show whimsical elephants, etc.) Complete with a glossary and a pronunciation guide, your kids will be learning spanish quicker than you can say, payasos (clowns.) I even learned a few words myself!

5-0 out of 5 stars vibrant !
I love this book "Say hola to spanish at the Circus"! I love Loretta Lopez' vibrant colors and the expressions on her characters faces- they feel so familiar to me. this is a book for adults as well as children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teaching Spanish to a 2 yr. old!
As father of two kids, I am always looking for tools to help teach them Spanish. Due to their age I am still keeping it very basic and what a more wonderful way to introduce them to not only a little Spanish but more importantly a little taste of Spanish culture. My children absolutely loved the illustrations which made the book that much more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this wonderful Spanish experience to any parent and their child.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing Special About This Book
My son and I read this book together because it was listed as a Sunshine State Book (Florida's recommended reading list) for the 2004-2005 school year. I was very disappointed; the plot was very weak and I felt that the book portrayed non-hispanic people in a negative way. I think the only reason it was picked as a Sunshine State Book was out of political correctness, because the author intermixes Spanish words throughout the book and the main character is Hispanic. The only people portrayed badly in the book are presumably not Hispanic-- a boy named Johnny Wiley and a girl named Sissy Huffer, whose only "fault" the author gives us, is that she has "perfect blonde curls". In the book, the main character is criticized by her mother for speaking English at home. Her mother tells her, "See what happens when you get lazy and use the English word when there's a perfectly good Spanish word?" I can't recommend this book. Besides the underlying anti-Gringo and anti-English messages it sends, it just isn't that good of a book. The basic plot of the book is that the main character (Gabi) has to deal with a boy who teases her at school, but her solution to the problem is rather uninspiring. The only redeeming quality of this book is that it emphasizes the main character working out her problem using her brain rather than her temper. If you want an interesting book to read, pick any of the other books on the Sunshine State reading list -- the rest of them are more creative and have better developed plots.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for ESL classes!
As an English as a Second Language teacher, I am always looking for easy to read books that address different cultures and languages. This book is perfect. I am now reading the 1st book in the Gabi series to a class, and have 2 other students reading #1 and #2 of the series on their own. I have students on a waiting list to read them next! The kids are thrilled to read books by an author who isn't afraid to throw in a little cultural flavor. This is an excellent book for beginning readers or older children just learning English--believe it or not, I am a middle school teacher! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Spanish/English fun for little ones
It amazes me to hear my grandson and granddaughter using the Spanish words from this volume and the others in the author's bilingual series. I guess that is the best tribute to the quality of the books in the series--they reach and they teach. The books are thoughtfully put together and have great visual appeal. Lots of fun for the grandkids (and for me) as we learn.

The author does a nice job of introducing basic English and Spanish vocabulary words in an interesting way. As an elementary school Spanish teacher this book is a lifesaver. While I found some of the translations slightly unusual it is a great way to use childrens literature to teach many subjects in Spanish. 4-0 out of 5 stars Review of Say Hola to Spanish
Say Hola to Spanish

By Susan Middleton Elya

Reading Level 1.3

Say Hola to Spanish teaches all the basic words in a dictionary (like table, horse, etc...). Once your young son/daughter reads this book. He/she will be sharing this book with friends and talking Spanish when she knows something he/she can say. This is a great book for birthday presents, presents for communions, and Christmas presents. This is a great book for children ages 4 to 6. If you would like to learn the basic Spanish this is the book for you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Say Bravo to Hola!
Do you need a book that will delight children from 5 to 13? "Say Hola! to Spanish" did exactly that for my students, from kindergarten through grade 8 - er, ocho. Children of all ages (and that includes this middle-aged teacher of Spanish) will delight to the likes of the following: "Your hair is your pelo, your nose is nariz. Your grandmother's pelo is probably gris." "Bread is called pan and cheeses are quesos. That's what we eat, but perros eat huesos." Learning foreign words could not be more fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun rhymes!
Really fun rhymes to teach some Spanish vocabulary terms (book "flow" though is in English).

5-0 out of 5 stars Ever Heard A Toddler Say "Hola!"?
This is a wonderful book for any bi-lingual (English/Spanish) parent wanting to expose their child to the Spanish language in a fun, gentle format. My daughter asks for "Hola" to be read to her and it is written in such a way that non-Spanish speakers (like the baby sitter, Grandma, Daddy, etc.) can read and correctly pronounce each Spanish word. I would highly recommend this for any child's book collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Say Hola to Spanish!
This is the cutest book ever! In my high school Spanish class our teacher read it to us, and we all loved it so much that a few of us went out and bought it ourselves. It is my new favorite children's book. It has bright pictures that are really cute. They have their own style. There are cacti with hats, and ufos, in random places, it's so adorable. It also has a very catchy rhyme pattern, and it is a great way to introduce children to Spanish. I give this book my highest praise! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A little boy invites his friends to his birthday party.
This book follows the format of the rest of the Barron's seriesby showing 1-2 sentences per page in both English and Spanish. Fornon-Spanish speakers there is a nice pronunciation guide for each word at the back of the book. Children as young as two will enjoy the universal appeal of a birthday party with balloons, cake and presents.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Teaching Toddlers
I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to teach French to a young child. The storyline could easily hold up as a regular storybook and the illustrations are great.

I do find that the pronunciation guide would be a bit difficult for a non-French speaker to use and recommend this only if you have a bit of French yourself or access to someone who can help with pronunciation.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book!
My toddler loves this book and so do I. The illustrations are beautiful and the general quality of this hardbound book is very high.
