5-0 out of 5 stars Wee Sing America
I grew up on this tape (it was still a tape back then, when we got it in about 1990). Every car trip, I jammed to the 50 states song and "Sweet Betsy from Pike." I loved these songs, and I still do, but when I learned them back at age 4, I didn't realize how often they would help me in the future. I can remember more than one time where one of the lyrics, or a blurb of one of the historic speeches scattered throughout the tape, helped me on an important test. These are songs that kids should know, and they will have fun listening to them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational...A Pure Delight For Children of All Ages
This CD and accompanying booklet contains the traditional patriotic songs we grew up with (sung mostly by children), as well as songs from the early pioneer and civil war eras (sung mostly by adults). There are also a few heart-stopping Negro spirituals which left my heart pounding! They were absolutely beautiful!!...terrific for rekindling the patriotic spirit in all of us. I would also consider this a wonderful educational tool for those who are studying American History. The quality of sound and performance is exceptional. I felt as if I were transported back in time as I listened to this collection with my children. This is sure to become a family heirloom.

Four stars...it is rather long, and may be a bit tedious for the faint of heart! You have to appreciate this type of music to enjoy it.

Blessings,
Cris

5-0 out of 5 stars "We love the USA..."
Yes, indeed we do! I was 8 yrs old, when my parents came home from a trip to Florida, and brought with them a bunch of WeeSing-tapes - and me and my 2 younger sisters totally loved them.
I learned a LOT of English from those tapes, and since I love to sing I enjoyed listening and sing-along to those tapes all the time. I still love them... and that's the reason why I'm buying my own copy of WeeSing America! The songs are so full of pride, so full of history, love and freedom! They tell so much about the pioneers, the American way of life - everything.
I can't wait to get my own copy, and I will play it over and over - and dream back of my year as an exchange student in Minnesota. WeeSing has become a natural part of my life - I just love those books and tapes!! (But this time I'll by the songs on CD, so it will last longer...)
To all you others - buy this item!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wee Sing America
Recently my seventeen year old son asked me to find his Wee Sing America tape that he had as a child. He is taking AP US History and wanted to listen to some of the songs again. He told me how he appreciated having that music in his past and commented on how most children no longer knew the songs. Since I could not find the tape, I am currently buying the CD for my 4 month old son. It doesn't get better than that folks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Family campfire songs from early pioneers and their songs
Approx 60 min cassette. Side 1 contains pioneer songs from the early settlers and immigrant workers as they worked to build the nation. Side 2 covers the patriotic anthems, marches and music. Majority are sung by children. Accompanying book contains words and music to help you all learn. It also includes a short expalnation on the background to the song. ... Read more

We bought this tape for my dino-loving son. It's lots of fun to listen to in the car. Has songs about most breeds of dinosaurs including his favorites - deinonychus (with his terrible claw) and pteradactyl. I even enjoy it (after the 1,000 playing)

5-0 out of 5 stars An all-time favorite of my 2.5 year old
This is the 2nd copy of this that we'll own since we wore out the first one from playing it so often. My son (age 2.5) won't sit in the car unless he can hear his "dinosaur songs." And he's learned a lot about dinosaurs and other things while he listens to it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! What an incredible collection!
Looking for ideas for things to do with your baby or toddler? Look no further. This is an awesome collection of songs, fingerplays, bouncing games, nursery rhymes, and lullabies. It comes with a CD/cassette and book that contains the complete text as well as directions for how to do each game or fingerplay, with separate instructions for baby and toddler. Of course, all the traditionals are here- "Pat-A-Cake", "Ride a Little Pony", "This Little Piggy", "Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes", etc.- but there are many, many more that I had never heard of before and that have quickly become favorites with my baby. There are songs and rhymes for bathtime, for bouncing, for teaching baby the parts of the body, clothing, animal names and sounds, etc. etc. This is a truly amazing resource for encouraging your baby's language development and motor skills, as well as parent-child bonding. There are enough games to occupy your baby all day long!
Once it's bedtime, there are about 15 or so beautifully sung lullabies, all of which I have since learned by heart and sing to my baby all the time. Again, the lullabies include both traditionals like "Brahms Lullaby", "Rock a Bye Baby", "Hush Little Baby" as well as many I've never heard of before (e.g., "White Sheep", "Mother Goose's Lullaby", "Raisins and Almonds")
I've purchased several other infant development books, but this is the only one that gets consistent use every day. Best of all, it's a true bargain for the amount of material you get.

5-0 out of 5 stars A true delight!
This audiocassette of songs and finger plays for little ones is absolutely precious. The voices of the young singers captivate my 18 month old twins, and are equally engaging for parents. The enclosed book with lyrics and hand motions to the songs is a terrific bonus. We have such fun acting out the songs together and encouraging our boys to imitate our hand gestures. I recommend it highly for interactive play with babies and toddlers. This would make a great shower gift! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great songs that teach kids and make sense of the technology
As a parent of two crazy kids who love the internet, I thought it fitting to purchase this audio kit so that my kids could learn to understand the technology and terms behind the 'Net.

We kept it in our car and my kids (ages 6 and 7) listened to it all of the time. It wasn't long before they were discussing IRC, newsgroups, and the baud speed of our modem!

Actually....they jokingly started to call each other.."Binary Man" and "Router Woman" after two characters in one of the songs!

What a great way to learn! And we are now a more knowledgeable family! ... Read more

This is a fabulous book and cassette package. I am a teacher in an International Kindergarten in Hong Kong and this is one of my greatest resources! Songs include: You Gotta Sing, Wabash Cannonball, Day-O, Ting-A-Lay-O, Mister Sun, Father's Old Grey Whiskers, Baby Beluga, Willoughby Wallaby Woo, Kumbaya, Shake My Sillies Out, Brush Your Teeth, Down By the Bay, Jamaica Farewell, Apples and Bananas, Chicken Lips and Lizard Hips, Polly Wolly Doodle, This Old Man, The Fox, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Puff the Magic Dragon, Morningtown Ride and This Little Light of Mine.

The kids love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Car Trips
This is a fun, up-beat, easy-to-sing-along-to tape with a sturdy spiral bound book that contains the music and words to the songs along with funny pictures. The tape has spiced up many long car trips for my 4 kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun!!!
I had this book and tape growing up. We used to play it in the car and we all sang along! It was SO MUCH FUN!!! All those simple things that are fun and healthy! I'm grown now, but I still like to listen to it and sing along. It is a breath of fresh air in a busy life. Great for young and old!! It is also a great alternative to watching TV or consuming cartoon characters!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
I have two toddlers and have used this tape over and over again. Most of the songs you will recognize and be able to sing or at least hum along to. Nancy Cassidy's voice is lovely to listen to -- and keeps kids as well as their parents' listening. My kids love it -- and I have to admit I even play it in the car when no kids are around. If you play an instrument yourself, the book includes guitar chords and piano music -- so you can try and duplicate it! Buy it you won't regret it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for new parents.
A nice combination of traditional and new songs. Nancy Cassidy even gives us a new verse to Twinkle Twinkle. A great book for new parents who only have a few songs in their repertoire. The tape is also great to take in the car. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More Precious Than Gold...
In the 1960s my parents played this record by my cradle. Now in the new millenium I play the tape every night by my son's crib. This is THE classic collection of timeless, matchless lullabyes.

Warm, gentle, soothing, memorable, and NOT tied in to any marketing campaign or multinational corporation. There are no toys connected with the songs that will be marketed to your children. No TV show. No videotapes or DVD to buy. Just an album of beautiful, authentic music that will provide priceless memories.

The sound quality is what you'd expect from an album recorded in the 1950s, or perhaps a little worse, but that in no way detracts from the charm of the record - it might even enhance it. My two-year-old now *asks* for the "lullabye tape" every night.

It's worth noting that the original record came with a spiral-bound book that included stories and lyrics. Unfortunately the tape lacks that book. I only wish this album was available on CD!

The album is nicely multicultural, but the majority of the songs are in English (in some cases somewhat archaic English). I suspect that there were one or two changes between the record and the new tape version, but I haven't had a chance to compare them properly. In any case, this is an album that every toddler should hear.

5-0 out of 5 stars mother of two
I have used this tape to put by preschool students to sleep, and now use it EVERY night to put my two children to bed. I never tire of the beautiful songs. I wish that the lyrics were included and that it were issued on CD. I would highly recommend this tape for anyone looking for a lovely nightime ritual.

5-0 out of 5 stars CD! CD! CD!
I agree with those who say this is about the best lullaby recording ever, and those who were astonished to find it listed as a "book", and those who would like it updated to CD. It saved me from the crazies when my children were tiny, many many years ago. It's my favorite new-baby gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for people with babies!
This is just the best collection of soothing but playful lullabyes in English. Quintessential rocking-chair music. It puts you and your child in a world of comfort and tenderness that goes back centuries. For years I taped my old LP to give to new parents at baby showers; then my turntable cartridge broke! I am so happy to find this tape at Amazon and I second the call for a re-issue on CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
Our 24 yr old daughter took this childhood tape with her when she went to college, and now our twin 19s are off and the want it too.I dispared of ever finding it but here it is at AMAZON under books. No wonder I couldnt find it! It is not a boring tape with soprano screechy voices, but lots of different normal sounding people with songs we always remember...Oscar Brand singsLittle Black Cat on this tape, and he rewrote the lyrics in his 1994 tape about Cats, its funny. Parents who have to listen to this tape every night for many years{me} will not be tired of it because there are good lyrics full of thought pictures. I highly reccomend this... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars NICE SONGS FOR KIDS BUT TITLE IS MISLEADING
I recently ordered this book/CD combo. Good news first. The nice part about this product is the fact that you get 19 kids songs in English, which is quite a good value for the price that one pays. Now the bad news. Problem is that there is really no real teaching of English vocabulary anywhere. Although letters of the alphabet and numbers are recited in English (and this part only lasts a few seconds), nowhere on the book or on the CD can one find recited or written English on organized subjects such as animals, colors, basic pronouns (I, you, he, she) etc. (Well to be fair one dog and one cat are each mentioned once in the book). But no such thing as "This is a dog" or "This is a mouse" or This is a frog" kind of list is available. So, summing up, if you want a nice collection of English children songs, you may want to try this. However, if you want to teach your child basic English words and vocabulary, go somewhere else. ... Listening to Odds Bodkin's tapes is like bringing a story teller right into your living room. These old tales continue to have messages for living that are still relevant for today's world. The "blossom tree" must be my favorite of Odds with a gentle tale from India about cutting down a tree. This tale touches on the dilemmas of decision making, finding alternative solutions to problems, how all things big and small have something to offer, and not least, what friendship is about. The tale of the "crane wife" is quite eerie and perhaps not suited for younger children so parents should listen and enjoy before deciding if their child is ready for this story. In our family, we use tapes on a regular basis after the usual bedtime reading and just the number of times we have played this tape is evidence of the enduring quality of the tales. ... Read more

I ordered all Sara Jordan's addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division "unplugged" audio cd, they were excellent. They all have beautiful and soft musical tone that make them a joy to listen and very easy to remember. My child love them so much.

So I purchased this presidents rap audio cd, especially with another reviewer's strong recommentation, but it turned out to be very disappointing. The hash and annoying rap noise made us very unpleased to even finish to listen to it for 1 time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Resource for Teaching Kids About the Presidents!
I am not a music teacher. I teach 5th grade American History. Over the past few years, every single fifth grade student in my school has memorized this entire cassette which covers all of the Presidents! We do this bypreparing these songs as a "musical show" each year in honor ofPresidents' Day.

In my 20 years of teaching, this still proves to be themost exciting and well liked musical I have ever directed. What makes thisespecially interesting as a performance, is that each song is written inthe style of the historical period, so although the kids may be rappinginformation about the Presidents, they are singing in classical, gospel, light opera, rock and pop styles.

Well done! Our school year wouldn't bethe same without it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Must Read For Anyone Studing The Harlem Renaissance
Not Gail Carson Levine's typical book, but definatly her best.
Eleven-year-old Dave Caros does not have the best life. His mother died in childbirth, his father just died, his brother deserted him, and his stepmother put him in a ophanage because she cannot support him and herself. In the HHB (Hebrew Home for Boys) Dave discovers a new world- of friendships and betrayal, of stealing and giving. Outside of the HHB, in Harlem, where Dave escapes at night, he finds another world too- of parties and jazz, of famous blacks and new friends. Maybe, somewhere between day and night, Dave can find a place he calls home.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Dave at Night" Review
The book Dave at Night, by Gail Carson Levine, starts out in 1926 as Dale learns that his dad has died, and his stepmother has decided not to keep him. His life is turned around when he is sent to the Hebrew Home for Boys, an orphanage run by the abusive Mr. Bloom.
He quickly makes friends with the other eleven year olds who live in the same room as him. He however hates the teachers and administrators. His only reasons for staying at the House, and not running away, is that he likes the other kids and Mr. Bloom has taken his treasured carving. He does sneak away at night however, and on the first of these adventures he meets Solly, an old "gonif" or fortuneteller.
Dave breaks into Mr. Bloom's office and steals his sentimental carving back. However, on his way out Mr. Bloom finds him and starts to beat him up. Dave manages to slip away and runs to his aunts house. After a series of events, Solly makes plan so that Dave can live at the HHB without having to worry. You should to read this book to find out his plan.
When I read the book Dave at NIght, I had many different opinions about it, but in general I liked it. Although when I chose this book I thought it wouldnt have very much ation, it had a very interesting plot full of action. When Dave sneaks out at night, you never know whether he will get caught. This novel had many different types of personalities, from violent abusivee Mr. Bloom(a.k.a. Mr. Doom) to Mike, the quiet violin drawer. The people he met at night with Solly, including Irma Lee, also added a whole new perspective to this book. Overall, I would not say that this book was my favorite, but it is a good book to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars READ THIS!!!
Do you know anyone who lives in an orphanage? I do. His name is Dave Caros in the book. After his father died, life was tough for Dave. Ida his step-mother, didn't have enough money to take care of him. She took the troublesome boy to an evil orphanage in New York City. Mr. Bloom, the orphanages superintendent, took Dave's only memento from his father. Dave is determined to get it back. He also wants to run away from the horrible place to live with his good friend, Solly. The conflict in this book is Mr. Bloom vs. Dave. This is because Dave wants his carving back while Mr. Bloom won't return it to him. I think the theme was think before you act. You never know what kind of trouble you'll get into. I definitely give this book 4 stars. Everything was well done, except the book could've used more description. I recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense and adventure.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dave at Night Review
If you like adventures this is the book for you. A boy who's father dies and no one else wants him goes to live in an orpahanage. This could be one of Gail Levines best book yet. Dave At Night is great and I highly recommend it to kids age 12 to 14. Gail Levine makes this book come alive. He's an orphin by day magician by night.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dave At Night
Dave At Night was rated from 1 to 5 and it was a 4.5 stars. I would give it a 5 because this story is sort of adventure and a little history in it. This kid named Dave went a school full of rich kids. One day he came home something happened to his father. His step-mother sent him to an orphanage it is called the HHB. One night Dave sneaks out of the orphanage and went out to see places near the orphanage. Then he met his grandfather and they did some fun things. One night he goes out but doesn't come back and at the end his grandfather tells them he is going with them. The warden that was there was very mad, but he showed only a smile but he was furious.
He said that he can go but he was very wired that the kid would protest to how they treated the children there. I gave this book a 5 because it was a good book to read, and I hope you will like it too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Marvelous fun
This CD is splendid. Not only did the creators pick fun songs but they also had them sung by native speakers. The kids learn very quickly which country has what feel by the singer announcing who s/he is and from which country. Having the song in English after the original allows for everyone to sing along. Great intro to world music!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Trip Around The World!!
Talk about multicultural! This music is a delight! Most of the songs are sung by children. Each singer introduces him or herself in English as well as their native language, then they sing a traditonal folk song! Each piece is short, the music is
very catchy! My son was 3 when we got this and after 1,00's of listening hours...at 6, he still loves it! He has learned the names of countries, continents as well as foreign words!
His teachers have borrowed it and it has brought many magical musical moments to many children!

5-0 out of 5 stars Teach your toddlers to talk (in other languages)
I purchased this lovely introductory tape and played it for my son, who was then about 18 months old. He adored it, and sang along with it, and asked me questions about it - so much so that the tape just plum wore out! So I am now ordering another one in Hebrew, and one in Russian, too. I believe that learning language arts through song and interesting narrative is an effective tool - it's enjoyable rather than tedious for the child. The fact that the narratives are voiced by children is also very important, as I think children prefer to hear young voices just like theirs. Teach Me Tapes are a job well done! Wish I'd thought of doing it myself! ... Read more

This book has a WEALTH of dinosaur information set to music that is a toe tapping good time. Any dinosaur fanatic will enjoy the songs about specific dinosaurs and their qualities. Amazon.com Audiobook Review

Following up on the popular success of Little Evil Things, Volume I and Volume II, Frank Macchia and Tracy London serve up a third offering of short subject horror. While some might find the plots derivative, others will embrace these well-worn scenarios as classic slumber party spookouts. The lineup includes the ever-popular circus freaks' rampage, abused dolls bent on revenge, a boiling cauldron of toil and trouble, and the man who was buried alive."The dirt writhed with worms and maggots ... their slimy bodies wiggling into his eyes, his ears, his mouth." Eeeewww, gross! For kids, or those uninitiated into the realm of terror, these slickly produced stories are an easy listening introduction to the wonderfully dark and diverse genre of horror. 5-0 out of 5 stars It's like "Goosebumps" for adults!
This hilarious tape made me squirm and giggle. It conjured some delightfully sick images that could out-gross Stephen King. The deadpan narrator sounds like a cross between the actor Tom Poston from Newhart andRod Serling.Like twisted little Twilight Zone episodes, these ironictales bring unseen forces into play in the characters' lives. These forcesgive the bad guys their comeuppance when they open a mysterious Mason jar,or send a set of Siamese twin sisters into a homicidal rage, or simply waitfor you at the bottom of a swimming pool.I especially enjoyed the laststory about the leftover fat from a Beverly Hills liposuction clinic. Thebackground music also set the mood nicely. Very entertaining (especiallyfor those of us with a sick sense of humor).

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT STORIES, GREAT MUSIC & GREAT FUN!!!
LITTLE EVIL THINGS is, by far, one of the most creative endeavors in music and storytelling that I've come across in years. The story-writing is smart and clever; the acting is excellent (especially the distinctive andcaptivating voice of Little Evil Thing's narrator, Jim McDonnell); and, theoriginal musical accompaniment is inspired and professional as it combinesthe richness of a well tuned orchestra with tasteful and effectivesynthesizers. If anyone can find a CD that even comes close to providingthe beginning-to-end fun that LITTLE EVIL THINGS has for me, than pleaselet me know. Until then, it seems that LITTLE EVIL THINGS stands in a classall its own! Bravo!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Trash It With The Rest Of The Bad Haloween Junk.
I, for one, am highly skeptical of prior favorable reviews.Does the term "plant" (not in The Little Shop of Horrors sense of the word) come to mind?I found the work highly age inappropriate (although perhapsthe authors' concept was to introduce our children to the concept ofadultry at an early age to break down any preconceived objections tootherfamily values such as incest that they may plan to introduce in Volume III,should they be fortunate to dupe another publisher into releasing it).Asfor the much touted "sound design" in the audio version, it istruly much ado about nothing. Perhaps the authors, not to mentionreviewers, should sample more audio book offerings and other works on tapeto ascertain the vast extent of truly worthwhile material that isavailable. But enough praise for Little Evil Things, Volume II; I thoughtthe work was trash and would have returned it had I not previously treatedit with the respect to which it was so richly entitled and thrown it in thetrash. ...
