3-0 out of 5 stars It's funny and cute
My boys love the pictures ~~ and I enjoyed reading the story about Arthur's first sleepovers and his little sister's concern about aliens. After a trick goes bad, Arthur returns the favor to his little sister. And it's just cute.

It's a great book for beginners. If you're a mom of toddlers, this book is just cute to read ~~ it's not repetitive nor boring. It's a fun book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Want to know what happened to the missing mummy?
This book is a good book because it makes you stop and think about what is going to happen next. The characters are Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose. Ruth Rose is a girl and she is very smart and adventurous. Dink is also very clever. Josh is some one who is very hungry and also very smart but is kind of funny. I really think it is an adventurous.

My 9 year old daughter started reading these books about a year ago, and has now read every book in the series! She delights in every detail, from physical descriptions of the suspects to the personalities of the recurring charaters, and relates easily to the three kids who are the detectives. She can hardly wait for the next title to be released. This book, like the others, has a plot that is believable to its audience, encourages problem solving and critical thinking, and provides a trio of heroes that your own kids would like as friends. In this volume, the reader is exposed to a museum and information about mummies, as well as given a mystery to solve. Another delight for the 6 to 9 year old set. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars substandard and rather embarrassing
I could hardly wait for this muddled tale to end. Julie Campbell Tatham, writing as "Julie Campbell," wrote the first six books of the series, and this, the fifth, stumbles. The scenes where Trixie tries to convince her family and friends that she's "in love" to achieve a noble secret agenda, were embarrassing and unnecessary -- she could have achieved the same end by confiding in her parents straightforwardly. And the "mystery" turns out to be a disappointing non-mystery. I recommend this particular Trixie Belden book mainly to continuity fans who want to know every detail of the development of the Bob-Whites of the Glen club; otherwise, skip to the Mystery in Arizona for a believable and entertaining (rather than ridiculous) story.

Even so, I'm delighted that this series is back in print!! This edition features Mary Stevens' darling illustrations from the 1950s. (There are Trixie Belden websites on the Internet that talk about the various editions and illustrators.) The new editions tend to go out of print fairly quickly, so don't assume they'll always be around!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Up to Par
When a fierce storm blows through Sleepyside, it blows a tree into the just completed clubhouse. Now the Bob Whites must figure out some way to get the money to fix it before winter comes and ruins everything inside. When Brian donates the money he had been saving to buy Mr. Lytell's car, Trixie and Honey work overtime to come up with some way to repay him. They hit upon the idea of patrolling the Wheeler's game preserve. But when Trixie begins to suspect that a poacher is on the loose, the girls may have more then they can handle.

First, let me say that I absolutely love this series. I've been reading it for over 15 years. But I have never liked this book. The plot just moves too slowly for this action oriented guy. Plus, I've never found the story believable, even when I read it as a kid.

Many fans love this book because of the great character interactions. I will certainly grant that there are some wonderful character moments, and if that's what I'm in the mode for, I certainly check this book out. It's not my first choice when it comes time to reread a Trixie, however.

If you like Trixie, you'll want to read this book and form your own opinion. However, if you are new to this wonderful girl detective, start with the first four. They are much better books to get you as addicted as I am to Trixie and her friends. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Teacher Trouble
Marc Brown creates the Arthur adventure, Arthur's Teacher Trouble with a moral in mind. Also it proves that if you work hard and give it your all, you'll be more successful. The book is told for children to understand that a little hard work gets you somewhere. With no effort at all, you won't come out with your best.

Arthur gets stuck with a hard teacher. The teacher starts out tough on the students, assigning homework right away. Arthur isn't very confident in himself and isn't used to the work and extra effort that he has to give to 3rd grade. With all of his hard work he actually gets awarded with something even better...and by reading this book you'll be sure to find out!

Arthur is my favorite character in this particular Arthur book. He isn't very confident in himself, but we all relate to that. And in the end we sometimes get surprised by unexpected turns.

4-0 out of 5 stars Neat!
This game is great for young computer-users! Each page has at least 15 "interactions" -- i.e. clicking on the salt shakers in the kitchen makes them dance. The story can read itself to you are you can read it silently. Even clicking on one word makes the computer say it. Great for children just learning to read. However, using it TOO many times can get tiring...after all, it is just a computerized book. Great value for the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars I learned from Arthur's Teacher Trouble.
I learned to do my best, but that if my best isn't better than everyone else's best, it is okay. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Trixie Keeps Plenty Busy on this Vacation
Christmas vacation is coming, but the Bob-Whites aren't dreaming of a white Christmas. Their hopes are set on Di's Uncle Monty who has promised all of them a vacation to his dude ranch in Arizona. But the trip almost doesn't come off. Trixie needs to study to bring her grades up. And when they arrive, Monty is having a crisis. Seems most of his staff has vanished with no warning and no explanation during the busiest time of the year. Where did they go? The Bob-Whites agree to take over the chores, but with Trixie's studies, will she ever get to have any fun? And that doesn't take into account the mysteries surrounding the other staff members and a few guests. Will these distract Trixie from her studies?

This was the last book series creator Julie Campbell wrote. It's not her best with lots of background on Arizona and Indian culture slowing the story down. The mystery, once it does get going, focuses on what is going on in people's lives. There are so many things happening I found it interesting even if it's not a traditional type mystery. Spending time with Trixie and her friends is always enjoyable, and the efforts they go through to make Christmas enjoyable for all is entertaining as well.

This was the second book I read many years ago when I was first getting into the series. While it's not up there with Julie Campbell's best, it's still and entertaining read that holds a special place in my heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trixie, Honey and the Other Bob-Whites are Back!
Rereading the Trixie volumes is an annual summer celebration for me, and I am in my 50's.

I grew up reading about the adventures of Trixie and Honey. Since we did not live near a library, my mom would buy me two novels a week for pleasure reading during the summer. She picked up the SECRET OF THE MANSION after she noticed that in the first paragraph that the main character was "horse crazy," just like me! Actually, Volume #6 MYSTERY IN ARIZONA was my most favorite since it takes place closer to home and on a ranch.

That was it! I was hooked! I still have my original volumes and have collected many used ones in the entire collection. Since some of my volumes have increased in value, I would hesitate rereading them every year. So now I am buying the entire new collection (well, the first 15 that they are reprinting) in the library binding. As long as Random House reprints additional volumes (hopefully up to #39), I'll buy them.

Also, I am hooked on audio books and am purchasing the audio books that they are making available.

What a treat! If you are revisiting the adventures as an adult, or introducing your sons and daughters to these wonderful and wholesome stories, happy reading! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Good Hardy Boys Book
This review concerns the original 1930 edition. Frank and Joe are arrested following the theft of valuable mail bags from the airport and must track down the real thieves in order to clear their names. While there is nothing spectacular about this book to make it stand out from the rest, it is by no means a bad book. The mystery is interesting and there is a decent amount of action. One thing that I did like about this book was that the criminals were featured prominently thoughout the book, unlike in some other volumes where Frank and Joe don't come across the criminals until the last few pages. Many readers will find it odd that the Hardys and their friends graduate from high school in this book (especially since in #10, they are back in high school), apparently, with the beginning of the Great Depression, the author must have been unsure as to whether or not the series would continue. This is an above average book any Hardy Boys fan would enjoy reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Book
This review concerns the revised 1965 edition. Mr. Hardy asks Frank and Joe to help him on a case concerning the theft of platinum containing electronic parts from company called Stanwide. Frank and Joe go undercover at the company to find out who is behind the thefts and soon find a number of suspects. They also find another mystery about the ghost of Clint Hill, Stanwide's chief pilot, who died in a plane crash at sea, who has been harassing one of the company's employees. This was a rather interesting book; I thought that it had one of the better plots of the books in the series. The book had plenty of action and the Hardys came into contact with the criminals quite often. I liked the part where the Hardys went undercover at Stanwide; unfortunately, it was much too short. I was a little disappointed with the ending. I found it to be rather quick and I thought that the Hardys were able to find the criminals too easily. Also, the "surprise" at the end of the book wasn't much of a surprise. Mostly; however, I enjoyed the book and I think that any Hardy Boys fan would like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read!
I came upon this book when I was doing a book report for Language Arts class. The book is called The Great Airport Mystery. In the book valuable eletronic parts containing Platinum are being stolen from shipments from Sanwide Mining Eqipment Companys cargo planes. Frank and Joe Hardy are called to take the case. They become suspicous because there is a ghost lurking around of Clint Hill. They end up at a mountain top in Montana. With a danger filled showdown. Frank And Joe walked down the hill towards the cabin. Joe looked through a hole in the cabin and saw.....you will have to read the book to find out what happens o.k. . I hope you will read this book it is very funny, intruiging, and adventures.

4-0 out of 5 stars CLINT HILL MYSTERY
The Hardy Boys The Great Plane Mystery
Franklin W. Dixon
Reviewed by S. Teran
Period 5

In the beginning of this book, the Hardy boys and their father were trying to get to their house in Bayport after they accidentally took a wrong turn. As they were going through a field, they heard a low pitched droning. They decided to ignore it. A few seconds later, out of no where, a plane came flying at them. They tried to dodge it but the wheel of the plane hit the roof of the car. The car flipped and everyone was knocked out cold. After about 10 minutes or so, they woke up unhurt but their car was almost totaled. Since the Hardys were used to the unexpected, they just went on. The next day, the Hardys flew a helicopter back to the area where they got hit by the plane. They found a shack that would normally be hidden to the naked eye in the forest. Just as they found it, a weird voice came over the radio speakers. It eerily said, "You can not escape the dead person, you know who this is, this is Clint Hill." The next day the Hardys got jobs at Stanwide, a computer/plane/helicopter industry, where Clint Hill last worked. Their jobs were to deliver notes and packages to other parts of the plant. After work and with permission, the Hardys took a helicopter out to the same location. Just as they were about to land, a tornado came towards the helicopter. The winds were too strong and forced them to crash land. No one was hurt but the helicopter was damaged beyond repair. The boys looked for clues until they saw a camouflage tarp covering a cave. Behind it, they found Clint Hill's plane. The Hardys flew to an island off the shores of a lake in Montana. There they found barrels of aviation fuel. They also found a shack like the one at Bayport. At the shack, they saw two people, Anchor and Barney. They were pilots for Stanwell. These two men were up to no good. Before they knew it, the Hardys were captured and thrown into a shack. Once the trap door opened, sleeping gas filed the room which knocked out the Hardy boys. Anchor called all the other pilots who were involved in the smuggling to come to this Island. The pilot, who flew the Hardy boys to this island, got worried and went looking for them. He found the shack and he also fell into the trap door. He was only stunned by the gas. He was able to get the boys out and call for help. He called Mr. Allen, the president of Stanwell, to come to the island. Upon arriving, Mr. Allen was shocked to see platinum and Clint Hill's crashed plane. This plane had crashed off the Cuban shores about 10 years ago. Meanwhile, the police were chasing Anchor, Peterson, and Rodax. The police eventually caught them and interrogated them for 3 days. They told the police of their hide out, the platinum and of the rest of the people who were involved in the smuggling. Mr. Allen had congratulated the Hardys on their findings and was told that someone wanted to talk to them back at Stanwell. They walked into the office and saw Clint Hill. He told the Hardys that 10 years ago, Peterson, who was the command pilot, left him stranded after the plane crashed. He was stranded in Cuba all this time. He explained that the eerie message over the radio wasn't him. It was just Peterson trying to scare people.
I liked this book so much is because it is a Mystery book. I really like Mystery books because the authors always keep you on the edge of your seat. For example, when the mysterious voice came over the radio, it said, "You can not escape the person you have killed." That part crept me out so much. I also liked this book because once I started to reading it, I couldn't stop. Before I knew about Mystery books, I never wanted to have anything to do with reading a book. The only time I would read a book is when one of my teachers would make us read or if they were instructional books on how to play Nintendo games. Franklin W. Dixon, the author of these Hardy boys mysteries, always seems to write amazing storylines.
There really was nothing that I didn't like about this book. If anything, it was just too short of a book.
My favorite part of this book is right in the beginning. It all started when the Hardys were taking a short cut through the plains when they heard a low pitch sound off in the distance. They decided to ignore it and continue as usual. The low pitched sound kept on getting louder as if it was getting closer, but of course, they still ignored it. Finally, Mr. Hardy got scared and turned off his headlights only to find another pair of lights going overhead. Something hit the top of the car to make it flip. Then the headlights mysteriously vanished. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Hidden Staircase
This book is about a detective named Nancy Drew who likes to solve mysteries and solving problems. She is a 18-years-old girl who hangs out with her two friends and sometimes they both help Nancy to solve mysteries. This Nancy Drew book is about two people living in a house and start seeing weird things like: something at the window, something moving, house's ceiling shakes like it is falling, and other actions that had frighten the girls and the two people living in it. There was a hidden staircase in the house that leads to another house that the two people had not know about. But can you find out who the person is that is behind all the troubles that had happened?

For all the people who likes to read mystery books, this book might be good for you. Maybe some people might now like it, but I consider that you should read the book. I like to read this book. I like to read mystery books. So for those people who likes to read mystery books, you can start reading Nancy Drew books with her solving crimes, missing things, and other mysteries.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Hidden Staircase
The Hidden Staircase was a great book. It was exciting and sad at the same time. It made you want to read it over and over again because it is so good. I do think that that could have been more action because there was a little to much talking in it. I'm not one to really enjoy mysteries and this book gave me a whole new perspective of these kinds of books. I gave it 4 stars, again for the lack of action (not that there wasnt any but it neede more). I fully believe that every girl should read the Nancy drew series, they are so good every time you read it you never want to put it down. Every word keeps you on the ege of your seat.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Hidden Staircase
For you kids out there that don't know, the Nancy Drew series has been around since 1929. It was originally written by Mildred A. Wirt Benson, under the pseudonym 'Carolyn Keene'. The originals looked exactly like this- well, except they didn't have the gold sticker-thing.

But the terrible thing is that the originals were re-written, under the same name, but not by the same person, in the fifties. The books lost the spirit and fire that they had originally had, and, unless you were a frequenter (a LUCKY frequenter) of antique malls, you wouldn't be able to find the original text.

Until now.

These books are the originals, and I personally like them much more than the other, later editions. The stories are longer, the pictures are wonderful (they are) and the story itself is much better.

If you have a choice between a newer version and this one- there's no choice. Get this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the better Nancy Drew mysteries...
I read the 1930 version of this book. Although all the original Nancy Drew books are fairly well-written, this is one of the more interesting and exciting books of the series.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Hidden Staircase by Carolyn Keene
This story is about an 18 year old detective named Nancy Drew. Her aunt Rosemary owned a mansion. There had been some strange things happening that were frightening the people living there. It was up to Nancy to figure out who was frightening them and why. Nancy did every thing she could, such as looking for footprints. But she, at first, was unsuccessful.Nancy wanderd how a person could come in the mansion without leaving any signs. This stunned Nancy but did not stop her from solving the mystery.Eventually she found a hidden staircase leading to a nother mansion owned by someone else.Nancy's aunt knew nothing of this secret staircase. To find out how Nancy finds the hidden staircase and who was frightening them, you must read this book.I found that the story was at times to predictable because of the title of the book.I kept wondering when the hidden staircase would be found. I liked it however that Nancy had a friend to help figure out the mystery.Over all I enjoyed this book and would reccomend it to anyone. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars An Average Book
This review concerns the original 1939 edition and the revised 1969 edition. Both books tell the story of a woman who owns many cats, of her long-lost love and of spooky tapping noises which she hears inside her house. However, each book tells the mystery in a different way so that they are basically two different stories. These were average books, not particularly exciting, but not boring either. The mystery isn't bad and there is a moderate amount of action. Personally, I thought that the revised edition was a little more interesting, but either one is worth reading. I'd give them both 3 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars THis Is Very Sly!
This book is bone-chilling, did you here me? I said REALLY bone-chilling! Not just bone-chilling! I mean really, really bone-chilling! I mean read this book. THanks!

PS Did I tell you this book is bone-chilling?

PSS Well if I didn't it is! Read it!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good Nancy Drew mystery
Nancy and her friends Bess and George get involved in a mystery that involves an invalid woman, her prizewinning Persian cats, a long-lost neighbor, tapdancing and Nancy's starring role in a play in River Heights. Nancy wows everyone with her mystery-solving prowess, George gets exasperated a lot and Bess spoils her diet (again). Long live Nancy Drew!

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good book
This book is probably one of the best ones. Nancy Bess and George fall upon a Mystery that is very unusual. But they usually are aren't they! I'd recomend this book because it's very entertaining and it keeps you in suspense. And if you like cats and tap dancing you'll love this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book to have on the Book Shelf

1-0 out of 5 stars Where is the Jaguar's Jewel???
I didn't like this book . I disliked it because it was not a good book for a fifth grader. It's a good book for a first or second grader. The illustrations were my favorite part. They almost looked like cartoons, though they were a lot better looking. The illustrations were very suitable for the story. As you read it, you can tell it's fantasy.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved it,

5-0 out of 5 stars The Jaguar's Jewel
Once again Ron Roy managed to keep my 7 year old in suspense. The plot was a little more predictable than usual, but this did not detract at all from the fun and mystery! WE highly recommend this book for all young readers. We can't wait for "The Kidnapped King"! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars New Member, New Mystery
Diana Lynch and Trixie Belden used to be friends. Ironically, they stopped spending much time together once Di's family because rich and moved out of town closer to Trixie's family. But Honey Wheeler notices that Di is lonely, so she starts to makes friends with the girl. Soon, Di is coming back out of her shell and all ready to join the Bob-Whites. Everything is going well, except for one thing.

Di's long lost uncle has recently shown up from Arizona. He insists on making her life as miserable as possible, even embarrassing her in front of her friends. Trixie and the gang want to help out, but Trixie thinks there's something sinister going on here. What is it? And can Trixie prove it?

This is another gem in the series. The only mystery here is if Trixie will be able to prove her theory, but getting there is so much fun. Plus, there's a great sub-plot involving the new clubhouse. The boys don't get much attention as the spotlight has shifted to Di, but since this is her introduction, that's perfectly understandable. The final scene, once again involving the Red Trailer from book 2, is a classic, referred to many times throughout the series.

With six of the seven Bob-Whites introduced, the series is beginning to have all the characters and really hit its stride. Not that the first three are bad by any stretch of the imagination.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good'un, with a thrilling conclusion!
This one introduces Diana Lynch to the Bob-Whites club, as she despairs of her recently arrived obnoxious uncle. Di doesn't bring much but bubbleheadedness to the party, but she does make Trixie look like a rocket scientist in comparison. And we get to see some of Trixie's snarky side as she makes sarcastic comments to Di on the school bus at the beginning of the book (but Trixie does come around later, thanks to Honey's gentling influence).

If you can find a copy of the old Deluxe (aka "Tall") edition illustrated by Marvin Besunder in 1965, note especially the ominous picture of Trixie alone on a field investigation to a seedy neighborhood. (For a discussion of the various illustrators, editions, and authors, check out some of the Trixie Belden websites, such as trixie-belden or the trixie belden home page.)

This book climaxes with one of my two favorite scenes from the entire series (the other being in the Mystery of the Blinking Eye). Let's just say that it can be advantageous to stay on good terms with one's occasionally annoying siblings. ... Read more
