4-0 out of 5 stars IF YOU LIKE MYSTERIES, GET THIS BOOK!
I like mysteries, and I couldn't find any. I tried this book and it is great! I think it was just the right book for me. It is very funny, and I think you will enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Book
Love the book. It was all about cases that Encyclopedia Brown was trying to solve. There were always bad and mean people in each case.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good book that builds brains
I liked this book because it made me a lot smarter, and sometimes it made me laugh, too. I would recommend it to anyone who loves mysterious stories and solving puzzles.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you like Encyclopedia Brown, this book won't let you down
Very enjoyable reading. The clues are never too easy or too hard. The only problem is the case of the missing tennis balls. It seems EB may have gone out on a limb in quckly passing judgement based solely on the suspect knowing that tennis balls come three to a pack after claiming earlier that he knew nothing of tennis. Is it not possible that the suspect noticed this while in the tennis pro shop? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I think this is the best Nate the Great adventure.
Rosamond's present slid off of her sled. Nate the Great walked to her house and noticed that there were 6 cartons of milk on the table. Rosamond had only 4 cats and each cat drank a single bottle of milk. What could the other 2 bottles be for? Nate followed the tracks from Rosamond's sled in the snow. This led him to a tree by the tracks. He looked up into the tree and found his present, a cat named Super-Duper Hex. You will enjoy this book if you like Nate the Great. I liked it because it was a tricky mystery to solve. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bound for fun
The Snow Boun Mystery is actually my favorite Boxcar Children Book, I'm not kidding either! Once when I ran out of books to read and my Mother refused to take me to the librarie I read the whole book twice. Since I've been reading other childrens mysteries the book is harder for me to remember.Ifeel like reading it right now! some things I remember are that the Aldens Grandfather ,James Alden, has a friend who allows the Alden children his log cabin for some time. Also I remember a grocery store about a mile away and a nice family in which lives there , On the way to bring food to the Aldens one person gets stuck th others get to the Aldens and they get they get that person safe and sound where the family stays untll the storm wore off. There is also apart about finding letters in the attick, apart about Viiolet disapearing, and a part abouta closet near the fire place. I don't want to give all of it away but, it's just hard not to do.Thankyou for your time to read all about this fabulous book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Hardy Boys Book
My favorite Hardy Boys book is the Secret of the Old Mill. I loved the part when Ken Blake fell into the river and Frank and Joe jumped into the river to save Ken Blake. I also loved the part when Frank, Joe, and Chet were in the Sleuth and Frank pulled the wires from the engine to stop the boat. I think that the Secret of the Old Mill is the best Hardy Boys book I have read.

5-0 out of 5 stars the action story
Hi my name is Ryan. The Secret of the Old Mill is a really good book.In the story Frank and Joe descover conterfeit $20 dollar bills and a company called Eleckton is making them. The hardys drive over in the Queen and Frank and Joe descover a secret door. Will Frank and Joe solve the conterfeit mystery? Read the book to find out.I recomend this book for people who like stories with a lot of excitement.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can the counterfeiters be stopped before they fleece Bayport
This review is of the 1962 Revised Version of "The Secret of the Old Mill". The first 38 titles in the series were revised over the course of 15 years (some with minor changes, others were completely re-written). "The Secret of the Old Mill" is the third Hardy Boys mystery.

Counterfeit money is being passed around Bayport. Chet Morton, the best friend of the Hardys, makes change of twenty dollars for a stranger and when he tries to purchase a microscope he learns that the bill is counterfeit. When the boys bring the bill into the police station, they learn that the chief has known about the counterfeits being passed but is keeping it quiet so as to not alert the criminals. The Hardys start some investigating on their own. Threats are made to the Hardys telling them to get off the case; but are the threats about the counterfeit case or the secret mystery that their father, Fenton Hardy, is investigating?

Reading the Hardy Boys as an adult is a nostalgic pleasure. I loved these books as a child and remember so much from when I read them years ago. What makes these books special is that I can enjoy them almost as much now as I did back then. "The Secret of the Old Mill" remains a good Hardy Boys mystery and a great story. It is fast paced and always interesting. I remember that after I read this book as a child, I started checking all of my money (such as it was) to see if it was counterfeit. That's the mark of a good story, that it can make a child interested in what is around him and comparing it to what was learned in the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Heart Pounding action Packed book!
On a scale from one star to five stars, I would rate this book a four star. It had a lot of action-packed chapters but it ended too soon. An action packed story should have a sequel to it. This book just drops the subject like all of the other Hardy Boy books and goes to the next book. For instance, this book goes onto "The Missing Chums". Even though the Hardy Boys books have a separate mystery, it would be nice if each book had at least one sequel to it. Overall, this book is really great to read. I recommend this book for early readers and for book reports. The reading level of this book is not hard to read, but it isn't too easy either. It's all evened out. Franklin W. Dixon knows how to write action.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book is entertaining and even a little scary.
This book is really entertaining. Even a little scary the first time you read it. I know that it might sound silly, but still, wouldn't you be scared if a robber might be in the same house with you without you even knowing it until he's gone? This book is when Claudia falls in 'luv' with a poet named Trevor and the BSC reads in the newspaper that a phantom caller (a jewel thief) was loose in a town really close to Stoneybrook. This caller calls your house first to see if anyone answers the phone, if not, he robs your house and he sometimes even rob houses when there are people actually there with him. Scary things started happening to the BSC, such as being called with no one on the other end. Claudia is sure that she loves mysteries, but she's not so sure that if she likes mysteries actually happen to her. What will happen? Read the book and join the BSC Mystery Squad to find out!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great mystery! Read this book TODAY!!!
Claudia has a crush on a poet named Trever. When she tries to get him to notice her, she accidentily spills Jello-O on his lap. Embarssed, she runs away, leaving the Jell-O in his lap. Meanwhile, Mary Anne has descovered that a burgler, the police call him the Phantom Phone Caller, is breaking into houses in cities not to far from Stoneybrook. He calls the house to see if they are home, but he doesn't say a word if they answer. He just calls again later. If they do not answer the phone, he breaks into the house. The BSC is getting call like that. Then, Mary Anne tells her father, and he forbids her to baby-sit until the Phantom is caught. What will the BSC do?

4-0 out of 5 stars A funny look at sibling rivalry
Arthur gets the chickenpox just before the circus comes to town. So he gets all the attention and care ~~ leaving his sister, D.W. out in the cold with jealousy. She fakes getting chickenpox and learns a lesson the hard way.

It's a cute look at sibling rivalry and envy. The story is readable and fun.

Once again the illustrations are fun to look at ~~ bright and colorful and cheerful. My boys can't read yet but they really enjoy the illustrations and I enjoy reading the stories.

4-0 out of 5 stars Primarily focusing on enviousy
Well, now that a hopefully working vaccine for chicken pox has been developed, this story is still great for teaching one about being careful what he or she wishes for.
The circus is in town-everybody's excited to go, but when Arthur is sick with chicken pox, D.W. comes home from play group to find Arthur lying on the couch so wishes she was sick so pretends to think Arthur is just pretending to be sick. And as the story continues, D.W. shows how she wishes she was the sick one-and in the end, Arthur is better, but D.W. gets the chicken pox.
This will be a great book to teach about being careful what you wish for even when chicken pox no longer exists.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great--but Beware!
My kids thought this book was very funny. I did too, but not solely for the reasons they did. Chicken pox that only lasts a week? Come on! But the main problem this created in my home was that when my kids came down with chicken pox, they pulled this book out. Uh-oh! They wanted crazy straws, and a back rub, and every other special treatment that Arthur received. But it was reassuring for them to see that chicken pox is very common, and even Arthur survived. At least I got them to try the oatmeal bath!

5-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Chicken Pox
I found this book to be very humorous and fun to read. I loved watching Arthur receiving special treatment for being sick and D.W. pretending that she also had chicken pox. This book is also great because many young children can identify with Arthur and D.W. . As a future teacher, this book is a must for any book collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Arthur books
My 4-year old son loves to go to the library because he can't wait to see which Arthur books will be available. We've read almost all of them, and this is our favorite. 3-0 out of 5 stars [my] Opinion
This is the first Hardy Boys book that I ever read. It was very enjoyable to read. Some parts of the book are more exciting than others. Like when they Hardy Boys went to South America to look for a spy.
I would recommend this book to kids my age and older that likes adventure and mystery.
This book was good enough to make me want to check out the rest of the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exciting Mystery
Frank and Joe Hardy are driving by the MicroEye plant in Bayport when they spot someone trying to break in. Foiling that only leads them to more questions. Who is trying to steal secrets from the plant? Then they rescue a man who jumped overboard from a ship, only to have him run off when they reach land with a mysterious warning about "footprints." Mr. Hardy is out of reach on a case of his own, but important papers of his are stolen from the house. The Hardys have few clues, but they follow them doggedly on a trail that leads them to South America and brings them plenty of danger.

I remembered enjoying this book as a kid, and rereading it, I found I enjoyed it again. There is so much happening here, it's almost hard to keep it all straight. And it's certainly hard to figure out how all the pieces will fit together. Yet everything is skillfully woven together in the end for a breathtaking and logical climax.

The Hardys are always good for some exciting escapist fun, and this book is no exception.

3-0 out of 5 stars CAUTION: Chinese Racial Stereotypes!
This review is for the Applewood 1930's text reprint. This story is probably not for the young, it should be read with the understanding that it was written in the 1930's. It is a decent mystery, but if you are offended by Charlie Chan movies you will want to read the revised re-written version from Grosset & Dunlap.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Much Better Than The Original
This review concerns the revised 1965 edition. Frank and Joe help the U.S. government foil a plot by a small South American island dictatorship to steal a top-secret spy camera. Anybody who read the summary to this book would think that the book was going to be really good, but; unfortunately, the summary was probably the most exciting part of the book. The plot sounds good on paper; however, I thought that the book lacked action and excitement and many of the events that sounded so good in the summary do not end up to be much at all. The revised edition is better than the original, which was a complete snore, but it isn't a good book either.

4-0 out of 5 stars While The Clock Ticked
In all of those mystery books I had read, The Hardy Boys is the only kind I really interesting in, and in those Hardy Boys books the one I really love is While The Clock Ticked because I had it...^wink wink^...! ...
It was starting with a mysterious stranger apparently steals some of Mr. Hardy's papers from the Hardy home, suspicious events are occurring at the local Chinese laundry and one of Mr. Hardy's clients demands that his name be cleared of rumors that he is involved in smuggling Chinese immigrants. And there is going to be more action and interesting then what I just wrote. So I suggest you should check you this book. But the whole idea of the book is it focused heavily on the title that I liked and presented a fairly good mystery.
It is really good in the beginning, and terribly good at the end. All people like to read mystery books should check out this book but do not forget to check out all other Hardy Boys books, though. Because I know author Franklin W. Dixon did not write just one book but many of them. I heard others Hardy Boys from him are really good, too. And in a minute I am going to look for them online. So anyway, I recommend you should check them out and save them for your summer reading books. Enjoy reading them and have a fun summer, students from Mrs. Lenhardt's class. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An Exciting Fast-paced Mystery
This review concerns the original 1948 edition as well as the revised 1967 edition which is a shorter version of the original. A widow seeks Nancy's help after she is robbed of a fortune in jewels. It seems the woman's deceased husband's spirit instructed her to bury the jewels in the forest to prevent them from being stolen from her home. Nancy is certain that the woman is the victim of a clever group of swindlers. Her investigation puts her into contact with several young women who are being cheated out of their hard-earned paychecks and leads her to abandoned Blackwood Hall. There, Nancy encounters an eerie, glowing ghost that inhabits the mansion. This is definately one of the best Nancy Drew books. The mystery is interesting and the story is fast-paced and well-written with lots of action. I really enjoyed the middle chapters, particularly the first two times Nancy investigates Blackwood Hall and meets the ghost. The whole book is great and a must-read for fans of the series.

4-0 out of 5 stars the most wonderful book that i have ever read!
Hey, if youre looking for something really cool and very thrilling, why not read Carolyn Keenes The Ghost Of Blackwood Hall with the super sleuth Nancy Drew. In the story, she was determined to solve a case of an old client involving some jewelry thievery and later on, it was complicated with a ghost playing on an organ in a dark, old mansion. She was also been assigned to study the cases of 3 working ladies for they are giving and donating money on a crook company. The very interesting part in the story is that when Nancy, with her friends George and Bess, first went to the old mansion. Come on, share the thrill and go on screaming when you read this wonderfull stuff. thanks!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars out of the ordinary
This is a rather unusual Nancy Drew mystery involving seances, hynoptism, and a journey to New Orleans for Nancy, George and Bess. Nancy is attempting to help Mrs. Putney, a woman recently widowed, who, while gullible in some matters, does not completely trust Nancy.

The action is non-stop and the plot moves breathlessly and will sweep you up. "The Ghost of Blackwood Hall" is a thriller, and highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful, Wonderful, Fun & Exciting Book.
I think the book was wonderful and interesting. It was myfavorite book out of all Nancy Drew books. It was fun to read. Icouldn't wait to see what would happen. The ending was extremely exciting. What a wonderful book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Carolyne Keene
This book is about swindlers who swindle innocent people by posing to be connected with the spirit world. They hold up seances, and hypnotize women into doing absolutely foolish things which often get their lives in danger.Nancy Drew picks up their trail but these people are far too much clever. But she doesn't lose hope and clears up the mystery at last. This book keeps changing with every chapter with new developments on the case. This book is the best of all the others I have read of this author. A perfectly thrilling mystery. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Eyes
This book was about a boy named Arthur who has to get glasses. The next day at school his classmates and friends for wearing glasses tease him. He starts telling his teacher that he forgot his glasses at home. The lesson this book teaches that it's okay to be different and not to care about what others think of you. The age level of this book is about from ages 5-8. I thought this book was good because all children need to learn that it's okay to be different.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good book for young children
Arthur's Eyes is a tale about a Arthur getting his first pair of glasses, and
learning to be proud to wear them. Arthur is teased by his fellow
classmates and is embarrassed of having to wear glasses. He soon
learns that wearing glasses improves his school performance, and
eventually leads to his acceptance by his classmates. Arthur's Eyes
captured our attention with the colorful artwork, although at times the drawings were of low quality. The cover picture of Arthur is not the same picture portrayed in the actual book, and this maybe disappointing for children who are used to the PBS television show. However, the message the pictures convey are appropiate for the intended age group. The story is short enough for a young child to read in one sitting, which would be good for a bedtime story. Young children who read this book will learn to be proud of their personal image if they get eyeglasses. They will also learn to accept other children who wear glasses. We would recommend this book for classroom reading and as leisure reading.

3-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's Eyes
Overall we thought that this book was a good book for children. It was aimed for children at about the kindergarten to first grade level. A good aspect of this book is it is directed at boys and girls, something that would work well in a classroom. The moral of Arthur's Eyes is good for children because it will help them get over a fear of needing glasses at a young age. This is shown through ways that children can relate to such as doing well on a quiz, being able to see in class, and making baskets in a basketball game. This book also included humor that young children could relate to such as the incident when Arthur walked into the girl's bathroom and Francine was in there. This is something that children at this age would find hilarious.
The only thing in this book that we found to be unappealing to anyone is that Arthur looks nothing like he does in the well-known cartoon. Besides none of the characters looking like they should, all of the illustrations were terrible. Without knowing that this is supposed to be an Arthur story, children wouldn't recognize the characters by looking at the pictures and this could confuse a young mind.

1-0 out of 5 stars Misleading graphics
If you look at the cover, it shows the current Arthur. INSIDE the book is the, I am guessing, first generation arthur that really looks like an aardvark. The crude pictures inside are confusing to the child. Avoid this arthur book and move on the the next one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
This book has absolutely horrible artwork in it. I bought my copy through the school system, and on the cover, they had a picture of Arthur like he looks on the TV show. However, inside the book, Arthur and his family look like rats, not like teddy bears. My kid couldn't even recognize the characters. He kept saying that this wasn't Arthur. I hope all the Arthur books aren't this shoddy, but I hestitate to buy another without flipping through it at a store. It literally looks like a child drew the pictures. ... Read more

This review concerns the revised 1968 edition. Mr. Hardy, Frank and Joe are hired by Mr. Alden, the president of a company that makes experimental race cars and motors. Three of their drivers have had accidents while on test drives because the windshields of their cars suddenly went white and blocked their vision. Alden is afraid that someone is trying to sabotage his company and steal a top-secret experimental motor. The theft of Alden's race horse, Topnotch, further complicates the mystery. This book is quite good; it is packed with action, mystery and suspence. The plot is interesting and would probably appeal to most young readers and even older fans of the series. However, I am disappointed with the manner in which the criminals were captured. It was purely by dumb luck and reminded me of something that would have happened in an episode of Inspector Gadget. Also, I didn't like it that the Hardy's friends were largely ignored in this book; Chet is the only one used to any extent and even he isn't really involved in the mystery. Despite this, I did enjoy the book and I would recommend it to other fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars AN OUTSTANDING PREFORMANCE
This book was terrific! I don't know about you but this was superb. Its was when a orange dragster bumps into the Hardy Boy's convertable. This leaves the Hardys mystified. Mr. Hardy talks to his sons about a mystery and wants his sons to help him solve his mystery. This is an enjoyable book.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best
This review concerns the original 1936 edition. Suspicious events at a home in Bayport and the disappearance of a valuable race horse combine to make one of the most interesting and exciting Hardy Boys books. This book was great; well-written, well-paced, and the mystery was highly intriguing. This book has one of the best endings of all of the Hardy Boys books that I have read and is especially good from page 172 on. It's an excellent book that I would recommend to all Hardy Boys fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Sinister Signpost: One of the most books of action
The plot of this book, (or even every page) is teriffic. I like racing cars, I like the fighting parts, and the adventure of finding the stolen horse, Topnotch. The most weird part of the book is the ability of creating Vilno's inventions. I can't believe that they could have such an extrordinary laser in those days, and I thought you could only make that today, or on some shows like Star Trek. But I really liked the sonic force. I just can't say how good this book was. Definetly read this terrific 15th book in Franklin W. Dixon's Hardy Boys series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hardy Boys The Sinister Signpost
The Hardy Boys The Sinister Signpost is about a person named Alden who thinks someone is stealing secrets about a motor. All of a sudden his horse Topnotch gets stolen and the criminal wants a ransom. Who is the criminal? Do the Hardy's catch him. Read the book to find out. ... Read more

Published in 1950, the was a fairly decent swift paced book. The volume had a decent plot and good mystery and there was considerable interaction between the criminals. This volume for some reason often reminds me of The Secret of Pirates Hill. The brothers try to find a family treasure lost during the Civil War. One of the more funny chapters Atomic Crackers appear around page 130. I find this an average volume perhaps leaning slightly on the better than average side. Certainly worth reading. RATED B-

4-0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Good Mystery
This review concerns the original 1950 edition. Frank, Joe and Chet travel to the southern U.S. to help a retired general find a fortune lost during the civil war. This was a really good book; it was well written and had a lot of action. Two things that I liked about this book were that unlike some books where Frank and Joe have little contact with the criminals until the last chapters, in this book they were constantly running into the crooks, also, there was actually a mystery to solve in this book (the location of the treasure), instead of some other volumes where Frank and Joe are merely trying to capture a certain gang. This is a great book all Hardy Boys fans will enjoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Secret of the Lost Tunnel
This oddly enough one of my favorite Hardy Boys book because of the post civil war connection and the southern stereotypes that are laughable at best. Obviously the writer had a limited at best knowlege of the south and this makes the book almost as comical to a true southerner as a fake southern accent in a movie or television. This oddly enough is the rule and not the exception in most of the hardy boys series. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Quite Elementary
This is number 21 in the popular series by Donald Sobel. Leroy "Encyclopedia" Brown, a winning fifth-grader, uses his powers of observation and logic to solve petty crimes and assorted other mysteries in his neighborhood. Aided in some stories by tough, bright Sally Kimball (look out, she hits!), Encyclopedia solves 10 cases here. The stories are formatted similarly: There's a problem (e.g., something is stolen, someone makes a possibly false statement), and Sobel mixes in a few good clues with a lot of dialogue and extraneous information. Brown announces that he has solved the case, and the reader is asked to come up with Brown's solution. Answers are given in the back.

Unlike some books in the series, all but two or three of the stories were solvable without special knowledge or assumptions. Our third-grader, who's quite the intellect himself, said that a few of these mini-mysteries were very hard; some of these stories are more appropriate for kids in upper elementary school grades. Each story is about 5-6 pages long; the solutions are about 1 page. The dialogue doesn't always sound very contemporary, at least not for those living in urban California. Close attention to detail will help the young Holmes in your house.

4-0 out of 5 stars It was okay.
The bad part about it was it was exactly like the others and it can get boring.Out of all it was good. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Mystery Books for Kids
Even though I love all Nate the Great Books but I like this one the best of all. This kind of situation has happened to me before (I lost my house key one time and I had to have my next door neighbor help me get in my house). But I kind of had the hint that Rosamond had done something with the key from the beginnig of the story. All in all it is a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nate the Great and the Missing Key
Nate the Great solves a case for his friend Annie. Rosamond has hidden Annie's house key. Annie needs to get ready for Fangs party but can't get in her house. Rosamond left a note on the front door with a clue to where the key was hidden. After looking in a lot of places, Nate the Great solved the mystery.

5-0 out of 5 stars I recommend this book to anybody.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's cute
I've started reading Arthur's books to my sons and they love the colorful pictures in the book. The storyline is cute ~~ nothing spectular or exciting. Arthur invites everyone to his birthday party only to find out one of his friends, Muffy, has her birthday party the same day. Arthur decided to surprise Muffy by hosting the party at his house and all ends well.

It's a cute story though I am not quite sure about "Spin the Bottle" gift at the end. That may be a little too old for 8 year olds. But it's not offensive or anything ~~ it's just a cute story about birthday parties.

4-0 out of 5 stars Suprise Birthday
I really like the book Arthur's Birthday because I liked when Arthur figured out what to do when Muffy and his birthday are on the same day. He was kind and knew what he was doing.

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice, soft toy and colorful book.
This is the same story as on the TV series, wherein Arthur's birthday is on the same day as Muffy's and both want to have their parties at the same time. The fact that it's the same as on the TV show can work to your advantage in that kids know the story, whether you read it aloud or they read it to you. It gives them confidence in knowing some of what's going to happen. The colorful illustrations are fun to follow along with. The Arthur doll is soft and huggable with "glasses" that are sewn onto the washable body. The doll makes a nice prop if you're reading out loud to a small group.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great For a Birthday Reading Lesson
I am a student teacher and think this book can be used as part of a K-2nd grade reading lesson. Children can relate to the topic and make predictions throughout the story. The colorful illustrations will keep children attentive. Arthur is having a birthday party and a conflict arises between him and Muffy. Arthur comes up with a great solution to the problem. The only part of the story that I thought was inappropriate for children was the gift that Francine bought for Arthur and wanted to play with right away at the end.

1-0 out of 5 stars Inappropriate content for age
My daugther loves Arthur and Birthdays, so I bought the book. We were reading along and came to the end where Francine gives Arthurs his gift and asks that he "use it right away". On the last page you see the opened gift -- a bottle with "Francine's Spin the Bottle Game" written on it. I thought this completely inappropriate for the age of reader. So,unless you're not bothered by the sexual reference in your child's reading materials, buy it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars No Better Than The Original
This review concerns the revised 1965 edition. Frank and Joe are drawn into a new mystery when a blind peddler gives them a glass eye and a warning. Through the course of the mystery they are confronted with the theft of the Jeweled Siva, a valuable Oriental idol; an innovative hydrofoil speedboat; a terrified wealthy businessman and a health farm run by a mysterious doctor. You would think that all of this would make an interesting book, but it doesn't. This book rarely held my interest and many of the chapter endings did not make me want to read more. The book is completely different from the original written in the 1930s, but neither book is very good and it is obvious the author of the revised edition had to force the story to fit the title by dropping the line "a figure in hiding" in various places in the book, even though it sounds awkward everytime. The very end of the book is particularly bad. Without spoiling it for anyone who decides to read the book, you go from the criminals having the upper hand to them being caught in a matter of three short paragraphs. This is definately not one of the better Hardy Boys mysteries.

3-0 out of 5 stars A 10 year old reader
Mr. DIXON died. I think people shoudn't critisize what he worked on so hard. But it doesn't have any mystery....but at least its good.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Below Average Book
This review concerns the original 1937 edition. Frank and Joe aid their father in rounding up an unscrupulous, phony surgeon, who dupes his victims by promising miracle cures for their eyesight problems. The book is well-written and the action level isn't bad, but there is no real mystery to solve. Frank and Joe aren't trying to find out who did what, or where something is hidden or what this gang is up to; they are just trying to get evidence that this surgeon is a crook. For this reason, I found that the book never really made me curious to find out what was coming next. The book is really good from pages 192-204, but unfortunately that isn't enough to make this a great book. I'd only recoomend this one to true Hardy Boys fans.

4-0 out of 5 stars CRAZY!!
THIS BOOK IS VERY WEIRD INDEED! HOW ANY SURGERIES CAN YOU DO ON YOUR FACE?!?!?

2-0 out of 5 stars O.K.
