5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfull
Easy to read and for small kids to comprehend when it is read to them. My 2 and 3 year olds love it. It is easy to read because it takes such a simple perspective on things like a child, not because it is dumbified so it only uses easy words. Gives children something that is easy to read and a classic. It has wonderful wit and charm. Adults as well as children can relate to the Golly sisters. I would put it up with wonderful books like Dr. Suess and Sandra Boynton.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hooray for the Golly Sisters!
My children love these books. We have "The Golly Sisters go West" and "Hooray for the Golly Sisters!". They're a treat for little ones and a pleasure for parents to read. I would recommend any books in this series. The stories are interesting and funny on many levels. ... Read more

Book Description

Before the new baby is born, Beryl calls it Babka, hoping it will be a girl as sweet as Mama"s delicious chocolate dessert. When it finally arrives, though, Beryl is disappointed. Not only is the baby another boy (she already has one little brother, Sam), but he has a stupid name and is just a big dumb lump, not the gorgeous genius the grownups say he is. However, her wise Uncle Morty has a few tricks up his sleeve. With a little magic and a little assistance from Mama, the aunts, and some old baby pictures, their Uncle Morty helps Beryl and Sam see that some things are true and unchanging, like the sun in the sky above and a family"s love. Sharp and witty illustrations from popular artist Victoria Chess punctuate this easy-to-read chapter book about a unique and loving family. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is great.
Okay I'd admit that finding a baby is a little overbearing but it all turned out good. A Cry In The Dark was my first Merry Hanson book I love her , and I think she should at least give Levi a chance I mean if Jon asked her out somewhere she'd say yes in a heartbeat. But after all she is only fourteen. I stayed up all night I just had to find out what happend. And my other book Catch a falling star is good to I love Merry Hanson, and I would love to see her in a little Christin movie for teenage girls. Mrs.Lewis don't stop wrighting these book they are my favorite.

2-0 out of 5 stars Merry has some tough decisions to make
In this 5th book of Summerhill, the finding of the abandoned baby as well as developements between Levi and Jon all give Merry fits. The boyfriend dilemna works fine, but the solution to the baby is weak, not too believable, and deducts a lot of credibility from this otherwise good book. I hope Beverly Lewis will improve on her mystery solutions. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny !!
When I read the first chapter of the book,I screamed with laughter.Russell had to catch up with his math and Elisa wanted to help so she took a ketchup bottle and really ketchup his math.Ha! Ha! Ha! What a funny book! The second chapter was funny too.Well,I can't blame Elisa for all that. However, she is only five years old.Oh,here's another joke.Elisa thinks that we must say that instead of one year old,we should say one year young.Maybe she thought that if we called a baby one year old, that means we think that the baby is OLD! And if we called a baby one year young, that means the baby is young. This is a really comical book.It is one of my favourite comical books.

Book Description

1952 was filled with adventure for Ken Stark and his brother Phil. They didn't go far from their small home in rural Illinois, but their active imaginations made jumping off the chicken house roof, playing on a huge corncob pile, and building a ramshackle airplane take them to all kinds of exciting places. It wasn't all fun and games-Ken almost lost a finger in the old wringer washer and both boys nearly sweated to death from pushing the rattley wheel mower over the entire yard. Life was simple, but enchanted.

Captivating paintings, in the spirit of Norman Rockwell, and a charming narrative will transport readers to the era of their grandparents' youth.

I purchased this book for my three year old Rugrats fan. He is going to be a big brother soon, and I found that this book has helped him understand about the attention that new babies receive. The illustrations are very colorful and he enjoys looking at them while I read. The plot is typical of a Rugrats TV episode, and the book also includes Chuckie and his Dad. 5-0 out of 5 stars oh brother
The title of the book I read is Oh Brother. At the beginning of the book Alex's Brother Andrew Keeps taking his bike when Alex needs to deliver newspaper, so he has to take the bus.Alex's Mom and Dad tell Andrew to stop taking his bike but he doesn't lesson.
In the middle of the story Andrew took Alex's bike again and didn't come home until really late. When he arrived he came in with a black eye.He told his mom, dad, and Alex what happened. At the end of the story Alex finally got the money buy the bike, and Andrew asked Alex to play football with him, and he never did that before.
I liked this book. The reason why was because it was really interesting and you couldn't predict what would happen.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Buying the Hardback This Time
Some books just get loved to death, and this book was a casualty of our first-born's affection. Now I'm delighted to find it again for our younger son- it has just the sort of humor a four to six-year-old will delight in, and a gentle moral that any parent will appreciate, whether or not your child has siblings. 'Monster' drawings aren't usually our cup of tea, but these illustrations are warm rather than scary, and the monster motif works well with the plot of an older sibling trying to outperform her 'monster' brother. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars This is not a paperback!
I too was expecting a paperback, but if I had read the review information then I would have known and not purchased it. It is a simple version of the Max stories, but good for young children. My 5 yr old son loves all the Max books, even the board books meant for toddlers. But this one is too young for him to enjoy. This is a typical Max story for toddlers. I would definately purchase it for a younger child if I had one. It is not very interactive, but I was not expecting it to be one (since I thought it was a paperback). This is a good introduction to Max and his personality. I love Rosemary Wells and her stories, as do my sons.

1-0 out of 5 stars A huge disapointment
This book is actually a cloth book. The only interactive activity it provided is the scarf on the front page. I was expecting a paperback, as stated in the edition info. ... I was also expecting interactive activates such as letting children undress Max....etc. Well, the book is essentially picture on cloth. It didn't interest my one year old. At that age, they wanted real books (such as a REAL paperback). The plot is much too simple for my three year old. I wish I had saved my money to spend on something else. ... Read more

Milo's not sure how he feels about this, especially since delivering the mail has suddenly become his job. But bringing packages to his neighbors turns out to be more fun than Milo thought, and then a big surprise at the end of his route becomes the best delivery of all.
From Debi Gliori, creator of the acclaimed No Matter What and illustrator of the bestselling Tell Me Something Happy Before I Go to Sleep and Tell Me What It's Like to Be Big, here is a sibling story for any child who has--or is expecting--a new brother or sister.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Pictures and Play on Words.
This story is about a young Penguin named Milo. Milo's about to have a baby brother. However, mother has to leave home on a food expedition and father needs to deliver the mail. Somebody has to sit on the egg. Father wants Milo to, but Milo wants to deliver the mail instead. So, Milo sets off an a journey delivering packages to all sorts of residents. He has a grand adventure and returns home for a surprise.

This is a nice, little story. I love penguins and I enjoyed reading through this book. However, it does contain a hole in the plot that will probably confuse readers (I still don't understand how the egg ended up in the bag). However, the pictures are vivid and colorful and the addresses on each package are filled with clever word play that slightly older children will love figuring out. Recommended for early elementary students.

3-0 out of 5 stars Significance in the stars
Milo is the youngest in a family of post-delivering penguins. However, an egg is soon to hatch in his family and Milo is called into service to deliver the mail. Every parcel that Milo delivers contains something to help the pole inhabitants take care of their young. Each of the package recipients inquires about Milo's soon-to-be new family member. However, Milo is oblivious to the significance of having a new baby in the house until he delivers baby stars to Stella Polaris. It's at this point that Milo learns he has been carrying the precious soon-to-be hatched egg in his mailbag all day.
The illustrations in this book are imaginative and colorful, however, the story is flat and without much feeling. The character development is weak and the plot only progresses with assistance from the illustrations. Through the pictures we can assume that Milo comes to love and cherish his baby brother, however, the text leaves us wondering upon this matter.
While I do not recommend this book for parents looking to expand their children's understanding of impending siblings, this fantasy book is an enjoyable fictional journey. In addition, some helpful information could even be gleaned about the postal service.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful illustrations but the story is missing something
My kids liked this story but it fails to make some connections for little ones. It is about a little penguin who is about to be a big brother but who is responsible for delivering packages all over the frosty north. All the deliveries are items that mothers are using to take care of their babies. By the end the little Penguin has decided he is ready for his baby brother's egg to hatch. There is no connection that he has learned that taking care of a baby takes a lot of work. If you are looking for a book to introduce big brothers or big sisters to the arrival of a baby this would not be my first recommendation. If you want to introduce the mail system it is pretty decent at describing package delivery.
