Book Description

Following the re-release of the first three books in this beloved series, here are the final three classic wordless tales in attractive, low-priced hardcover editions. A Boy, a Dog, and a Frog, the first book in this series, launched Mercer Mayer's distinguished career over twenty-five years ago, and also helped to create the wordless picture book genre. Full of warmhearted mischief and play, the books express the humorous trials and tribulations of friendship and the joy of summertime discovery. Readers will want to collect the entire set. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent wordless book
I love this book! While all of Mercer Mayer's wordless frog books are delightful, this is definitely my favorite. A picture is definitely worth a thousand words in this case. From beginning to end every characters' thoughts and emotions are perfectly clear. The illustrations are delightful and the characters' body language and facial expressions are wonderfully expressive. Even very young children can look at this book and understand what is going on. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Biscuit Gets Distracted
In this book, The Girl With The Purple Sneakers wants to teach Biscuit how to fetch a ball. But learning is not always easy when the world is filled with fascinating things like bones and cats. But once Biscuit is ready to learn even a big mud puddle won't stand in his way.

A good book that shows it is easy to be distracted and that obstacles can be overcome. Told in the wonderful "Biscuit" style and with adorable illustrations.

4-0 out of 5 stars For Beginning Readers
This is a terrific new Biscuit book. My 7 year old daughter can read it with no problem. It is almost too easy for her. It is a wonderful book for the very beginning readers. My daughter and I enjoy the humor of Biscuit not wanting to listen and doing eveything except what he is told. Sounds just like a puppy! All kids who like dogs will enjoy this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A multi layered gem of a book
I am reading this book out loud to my almost-5 year old. He is captivated by the slow, meticulously layered plot and character development. I am taking the time to write this review, because this might not be a book one would ordinarily think to use as a read alout to a child this young (he'll be five in 2 months)..and as a mom i look to these reviews to gather information about age appropriateness. In any case, it's a pleasure to read, and it's the kind of book that makes you stop and say WOW, how on earth did this writer come up with these detailed ideas??? The characters are all kind and charming, and their little quirks are celebrated. I found that one of the underlying messages of this book is kindness, patience, and love for nature, as well as respect for the family. The setting is somewhat dated - the 1950's, but as long as your child can understand the concept of things having been different long ago, (You'll be explaining "icebox" and a few terms like that) it's really quite an enriching experience. We are very much looking forward to reading other books by this author. Enjoy this charming, comforting read together...don't wait for your child to learn to read it for him or herself!

3-0 out of 5 stars A smart cat named Pink Pye
Pinky Pye is a cute, funny ,exciting, and questioning kind of book.My favorite part is when the Pyes find Pinky. Then find out that Pinky can type on Mr.Pyes type writer.I really liked
this book.Kathryn Arnold...>

5-0 out of 5 stars Pinky Pye
This story is about the Pyes (Rachael, her brother Jerry, Mama, Papa, Gracie, Uncle Benny, and Ginger) who go on vacation so Papa ,a famous ornithologist, can figure out what a puffin is doing there. His bad memory gets him in a lot of trouble very early on in the book. Little did he know he wouldn't get much work done due to an abandoned kitten left on their cabin's door step. Pinkey Pye they called her, who would do anything just so someone will say she's cute. Mama brought plenty of coats (even though it was 90 degrees outside) just in case they were walking along the beach and a snow storm arived and matches in case they got lost. Her motto is "Be Prepared." Uncle Benny is Mama's brother even though he is 5 years younger than Rachael and Jerry(Mama's children). He wonders how his crickets are vanishing one by one. He is on a never ending quest to stop sucking his thumb. Gracie is a grumpy old cat who feins boredom through out although she is very interested in a creature lurking in the shadows of the attic... Ginger is the clever dog, but feels a little left out when Pinky steps into the picture. Will her jelousy overcome her common sense? Filled with laughs. Some of the suspence in this book will keep you laughing and crying over their detailed antics. I recommend reading Ginger Pye before this one though. All in All a good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A family travels to Fire Island and finds lots of surprises
The Pye family goes to Fire Island with Papa, the ornithologist father of the family. There they find a cat, and unravel the mystery of where Uncle Bennie's (the four-year old uncle of the 2 children) crickets are, and where Papa's ornithologist friend's pet owl is ... Read more

Dog talk is not merely whimpers, growls, sniffs, barks, and howls.According to award-winning author Jean Craighead George, it's in the tail ("the flag of feelings") and ear twists, too. In this irresistible picture book, you'll learn how to speak to your dog in his or her own language.Sniff his nose to say hello, for example. (You don't have to lick back, even though it would please him.) While you'll never be a match for your dog in the sniffing department, you can look deeply into his eyes or you can whimper to show you care. Don't growl or bark, however. ("Although it's fun, it is not very rewarding to bark at your dog. He doesn't understand your bad accent and may twist his head and look at you in confusion.")

Sue Truesdell's splendidly doggish illustrations interact with photos of Jean Craighead George herself--a woman who has been around dogs her whole life. Dog lovers of all ages will run in circles for this loving, funny celebration of the human-canine relationship. For those who prefer cats, investigate the companion title, How to Talk to Your Cat. (Ages 7 to 107) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Although this book is short it is great for younger children and is an over-all guide to "Dog talk".You should buy this book, I truly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE CAT'S MEOW! GREAT ADVICE AND HOWLING FUN ILLUSTRATIONS
Let's start simply and honestly, the same way these tomes approach their subject matter, and say these are the cat's meow! Jean Craighead George has penned two ultra-thin volumes on communicating with our best friends and felines, and each is a howling success. The Newberry Medal-winning author does what someone like Elizabeth Marshall Thomas has tried to do in books tens of thousands words and pages longer and could not. Jean, by George, had found the winning ways to teach pet lovers how to chat with their four-footed pals. Her writing is sparse: "A lick is not a kiss. It is a statement that says you're a wonderful leader." Her advice is refreshing: "Growling is aggressive
talk. Don't growl back. Dogs don't like that." As special as her words is the whimiscal use of arkwork: actual color photos of the animated author interacting with illustrations (by Sue Truesdell) of equally animated cartoon cats and dogs. (We just love the one of George on all fours, rubbing heads with a cat!) Four paws up!

1-0 out of 5 stars More Harm Then Education
When I was given this book by a client I was thrilled. The book's a brilliant red front cover is beautifully illustrated with a cartoon dog.The inside pages are illustrated with more canine cartoons interacting with photos. At first glance it seems to be an intriguing children's book.Unfortunately the cover of this book is where all positive comments end.

I believe the author's intention in this book is to teach canine communication skills. If I am correct in this assumption, she not only failed miserably but may have caused more harm then education.

She advises "To say hello to your dog, sniff toward his nose. That's dog talk.He will answer by pulling his ears back and close to his head. What he is saying is 'Hello, Leader".Ms. Craighead-George is describing a dog who is telling their nose-sniffing-human "This is a bit uncomfortable, please stop". A dog's ears going back can be a conflict behavior.

She goes onto say "'Good night' in dog talk is physical.Rub your dog's head, ears and neck.Lower your lids and sigh into his fur. You are the mother dog licking her pup off to sleep."Although I often enjoy a nice snuggle with my dog I am relatively certain he knows I am not his mother or a dog.I was relieved that she did not suggest I lick my dog, we all have to draw the line somewhere.

Ms. Craighead-George advises "'Good-bye' is a whisk of the tail, then turning and walking off.Since you don't have a tail, swish your hand downward and show your back.If your dog does not choose to hear this unwelcome message and races after you, tell him, `I am the boss,' in dog talk, then repeat the dog `good-bye'."I will admit to frequently suffering from serious bouts of tail-envy but I'm afraid my hand waving behind my rear end is a bit of a stretch in wishful thinking.

Ms. Craighead -George crosses the line from embarrassingly silly to potentially dangerous in her section titled "How do you say `I am the boss'?"She advises, "The most effective way is to put your mouth on his muzzle. That means in dog talk that you are the leader. His ears will go back and against his head, and his tail will lower. This is his way of saying, `Yes, you are my leader'."I suspect many people who attempt this will have time to contemplate what their dog was really saying ("You have totally lost your mind and you are frightening the heck out of me") while they wait patiently in the emergency room to have their dog bite treated.

She suggests if your dog becomes anxious or confused you should "Sniff his nose to tell him not to be angry or confused.Nose sniffs are peace talk."I have a sincere concern that for a dog that is in an anxiety situation, a human sticking their face in his to sniff his nose may increase the stress level to a point where the dog may feel he has no other option but to bite the face that sniffs him.

It is cautioned in "How to Talk to Your Dog" that children should not roll onto their backs while playing with their dog or they will be saying in dog language "I am your humble servant".My own dogs must be the most misinformed canines on the planet. They have three young humble servants in their household and they don't even realize it!

I would recommend that the author stay with ridiculous but harmless comments suggest as "You can pass other messages with your eyes.Think, `I love you.I love you,' and your lower lid will involuntarily come up and soften your expression.Your dog will read that and return this message by softening his eyes."

I am still uncertain to what population this book is directed.I can only hope it was not written for innocent children and will only fall into the hands of adults who will quickly realize this book for the nonsensical hogwash that it is.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book, but assumes too much of children
This book shows young people the joys of communicating with dogs, from how to recognize dog talk through body language to the various ways animals communicate through whimpers, sniffs, and barks. The book, however, assumes that young children will know not to apply these very "hands-on" techniques to strange dogs--a very dangerous assumption that could lead to dog bites. The book offers two suggestions that one should never do in front of an aggressive dog: one is to wave a newspaper above the dog's head, the other is to sniff a dog's nose to calm an angry or confused dog down. Children should never be expected to calm an angered or aggressive dog down. While the book has lots of good information on dog behavior that could benefit both children and adults, it lacks the cautionary requirements to keep kids from getting bitten by dogs too.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Doggone Good Book
Did you know that dogs don't just use their voice to communicate, but also their eyes, nose, tail, ears and even body position?Jean Craighead George has written a charming and humorous book that will not only help you understand your dog, but help you "talk" right back to him.As she explains on page one, "No one will ever love you as much as your dog does". He will be your friend for life, so why not speak his own language.Ms George's easy to read and informative text coupled with Sue Truesdell's delightful illustrations will make you a canine communicator in no time. This is the perfect book your whole family can enjoy together and a must read if you have or are planning on getting a dog.So find out what you dog is really telling you...and talk back! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars As Much Fun Now As When I was a Kid
I grew up with this book and never knew of the others in the series. Seeing as my daughter loves dogs I had to buy this when I saw it in this new edition.

An opera singer has moved into the house next to Harry's. The singer practices all day long, singing loud and high. Harry does not like this sound. Harry tries a number of ways to get her to stop. These do not please his family. But finally, a good way is found and everyone is happy.

As a parent, one of the things I like about this book is that it is clear that Harry is not being good when he howls, leads cows or a marching band, or other tricks. Although we want Harry to succeed, we also want it to be in the right and good way. This book knows the difference.

I loved this book as a kid and I still do. My daughter loves it (hopefully my son will too).

4-0 out of 5 stars harry and the lady next door
I like Harry and the lady Next Door because Harry doesnt like her sining. I also like this book because Harry brings all these animals. home and the lady sings louder than them. These are reasons why you should read these books.

5-0 out of 5 stars A note from the author
When an author sits down to write a book, she/he uses many elements: fact, memory and imagination. My book about PeeWee began with fact. I read an article in the New York Times telling of 45 guinea pigs set loose in Central Park because their owner faced eviction by his landlord. A few days later, a second story told that most were captured, sent to an animal shelter, and put up for adoption. Starting with that fact, I began to imagine what would happen to a single guinea pig that was not found. Memory came to play because I recalled the parents of two of my own children's friends. Both released pet kittens onto the city streets when their children were not home because they felt stressed and unable to continue the responsibility of pet ownership. As the owner of two pet cats myself, I was shocked when I heard what these parents had done. And finally, when I sat down to write about that little guinea pig, my imagination took over. Suddenly, the little guinea pig was looking at the newspaper scraps in his cage and discovering the mystery of the printer letter. His wise mother, who grew up in a first grade classroom, teaches him how to read. His reading skills together with his friendship with a street smart squirrel named Lexi helpt she hero of the fantasy survive.

Here is another news story that I have not written about: a few years ago, a crate of tropical parrots broken open at Kennedy Airport. The small green birds flew free and everyone predicted that they would soon die in the cold and hostile climate of the New York area. But as recently as a week ago, a cousin of mine who lives in Connecticut saw two dozen of these parrots in a local park. Somehow, they have adapted and continued to live and reproduce despite cold weather, snow, different vegetation and new enemies. Like human immigrants before them, they are learning to live and thrive here. It's my favorite kind of story - one with a happy ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pee Wee rates high for my pee-wee reader!
My son learned to read using Johanna Hurwitz's marvelous Russell/Riverside Kids series, and so we were very excited to begin Pee Wee's Tale. We were not disappointed! The animal story is a nice diversion from Hurwitz's more realistic fiction, but still has all of her markings as an author: humor, empathy and strong characterization. Yes, my son was concerned about the guinea pig's plight, and yes, the release of the guinea pig into the park raised an eyebrow...but it also incited some wonderful discussion about caring for pets and how animals adapt in the wild. Besides being an exciting and provocative chapter book for emergent readers, I think this would make a great classroom read-aloud, and I am giving it as a gift to my son's teacher! Also, don't miss Lexi's Tale, the sequel from a squirrely point of view!

5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable Book for Young Reader's
PeeWee, a small guinea pig, is born in Casey's Pet Shop, along with his four siblings, where his Mother takes care of them all. As they begin to grow, PeeWee becomes interested in the scraps of newspaper lining his cage, and soon his Mother is teaching him how to read, as she used to be the class pet in an elementary school, and learned alongside all of the children. Before long, PeeWee is adopted by a nice man, who brings him home as a birthday present for his nephew. Things are good for a while, until the boy goes away, and somehow PeeWee finds himself all alone in New York City's Central Park. Lucky for him, he meets up with Lexi, a very street-wise squirrel, who takes Pee-Wee under his tail, and begins showing him the ropes of living in the wild. Soon PeeWee is torn between searching for his owner, and his nice safe cage, or staying in the depths of Central Park, where he has to fend for his life.

Being someone who has loved guinea pigs all of her life, and has owned many in the past (all have sadly passed away), I couldn't resist picking up PEEWEE'S TALE at the bookstore. The cover alone sold me, but the plot of the story made me even more eager to purchase the book. Johanna Hurwitz has created a fantastic story completely narrated and explained by a group of adorable animals, namely PeeWee, much in the same fashion of Betty Boegehold (Here's Pippa!). The art, by Patience Brewster, is amazing, and resembles the animals so closely that you actually feel that you are looking at a photograph. Children of all ages, along with their parents, will love reading about PeeWee's adventures, and looking at the beautiful drawings that accompany them.

5-0 out of 5 stars I would rate it 5 stars
My favorite character in this book is Pee Wee because I like hamsters. Pee Wee does not remind me of anybody I know. My favorite part is when Pee Wee starts to get the hang of living in wild life. I would recommend this book to my friend Lucy because she likes cute stuff. I like the happy parts of the book. If Pee Wee were a person and he went to my school I would be friends with him if he were nice, but not if he were not nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Make room for PeeWee, Charlotte
"Share this with me. You'll like it. It's very sweet." are the last three sentences of this lovely chapter book for young readers, and I hope that many children and their parents will do just that.

It's a story of friendship between a naive housepet and a street-wise Central Park(New York City) rodent, exceptionally well written, with fun forays into poetry and sayings. Who could resist a squirrel with the philosophy, "a nut in the jaw is worth two in the paw?"

Add this to the CHARLOTTE'S WEB type of books children of all ages take into their hearts and share it with a child you love soon. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of our favorite books
Our daughter has enjoyed this book since she was less than a year old. It has wonderful, expressive pictures of animals that come out of the woods to feast on the muffins that Annie puts out. Annie hopes to find an animal to replace her cat that went missing during a snow storm, but none of them is friendly and cuddly as her cat was.

Meanwhile, in the band of graphics around the margin of each page, we see the missing cat, and other animals that are yet to appear in the story. This is an amazing way to show things that may be happening even when we don't "see" them. It gives plenty for the person reading to point out and discuss, or the story may be breezed through when it's one of several that a child wants to hear.

Several story lines are wrapped together in this relatively short book -- the disappearance of Annie's cat and her search for a replacement, the strange behaviour of her cat and its final explanation, the succession of wild beasts that come out of the woods to eat corn muffins (!), and through it all, winter's slow thaw and the eventual arrival of spring. None of it is overplayed; it all just fits together naturally.

In Annie, as in The Mitten and others, Jan Brett tells a fun children's tale while gently showing how a children's actions affect the world around them. Just as the boy in The Mitten winds up scaring all of the animals that then crawl into the mitten, Annie's actions also have wide repercussions.

Annie has a cat. One day she notices the cat does not want to play, but tries to hide in odd places. Annie keeps finding the cat so the cat tries the outdoors. This makes Annie lonely as she wants to have a pet around the house.

She bakes corn muffins to leave outside in the snow to attract a new pet. But Annie gets more than she bargained for as first a giant moose and then a bobcat shows up. Annie makes more muffins and more animals show up.

But eventually the corn meal runs out at the same time as the warm Spring winds begin to blow. Without any muffins, the animals leave and the cat is free to come back. By following the illustrations in the borders, we know what the cat has been up to and what prevented its return.

The only downside of this book (at least in my daughter's eyes) is that there is no mention whatsoever of a parent. Are we to believe that Annie is living at the edge of the woods all by herself? But still, it is a beautiful book and a fun story. A must read for fans of Jan Brett's other books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lessons about animals
This book tells the story of some valuable lessons that Annie learned about animals. One day, her cat started acting strange. Then it went away. Annie was lonely, so she tried to find herself another pet by attracting wild animals with corn cakes. Indeed, a veritable menagerie of wild animals was soon hanging around her door, including a moose, a wild cat, and a bear. But none of these animals were friendly like Annie's cat, and soon the corn meal gave out so she couldn't make any more corn cakes. Just then the cat appeared again, followed by some new kittens. Animal loving children may be fascinated with Annie's tale, although some may be a little frightened by the press of wild animals at her door. The illustrations by Brett, as always are intricate and very attractive. The book has about 375 words.

5-0 out of 5 stars SUPERB!
The story is sweet and as with all Jan Brett books, the illustrations are second-to-none. My son and daughter love this book, and so do their parents!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT ILLUSTRATIONS!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Illustrated Fantasy
Of course no one would leave his/her baby with an ordinary dog--but this is CARL! Carl can dress the baby and care for the baby. Let's face it. The story is totally make believe. Santa arrives at the home too and leaves by traveling up the chimney. I don't suppose I would expect that in real life either. The illustrations are lovely. There are very few words in the book, so it is fun to tell the story in your own words. I think Carl's Christmas as well as the other Carl books are charming.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated Christmas book for toddlers/Pre-K
Overhearing a man at the bookstore ask for a "baby's first Christmas" book, this one leapt to mind. It's an enjoyable tale about a family dog keeping watch over the baby at Christmas time. They leave the house on their own and journey through the snow-swept streets of town enjoying a variety of Christmas scenes sure to warm the heart.

There is almost no dialogue in the book, which allows parents to narrate the story at the language level of their child. Children, too, would be able to pick up the book and follow the story simply through the beautiful illustrations. Carl being left to babysit may bother some readers, but I accepted the premise as fantasy and was captivated by the colorful, touching images of Christmas as experienced by Carl and his young charge.

5-0 out of 5 stars H-E-L-L-OOOO!!! "Carl" is a wonderul FANTASY!
A absolutely WONDERFUL book! One in a series of "Carl" books, that are beautifully illustrated and "told" in the most lovely way for young readers...thru the illustrations! My son totally enjoyed this book when he was much younger (which did NOT prompt him to try and ride our 2 Rotts, as some seem to have a problem with) and it has become an absolute favorite for one of my nephews, who is 3 yrs. old...the "adults" who write in ridiculous unproductive reviews, as has been posted here in the past, and need a forum to discuss child endangetment issues, need to find another venue...this is not the place; Childrens books, for the most part, have always been based on FANTASY! Parents help by teaching their children the differences between fantasy and reality...yes, even to 2 year olds! If the thinking of a few "joyless" people who have posted their "reveiws" here in the past on this book was the norm, then I guess Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, et. al., should be "arrested" for child neglect too, for kids might try jumping off roofs to fly! Go Carl!!!

PS...And here's a thought: if you have children sitting on your pets, as the reveiwer from Stockton CA (reveiw posted Nov. 26, 2002) has a problem with, and can't get the kids to stop, then maybe it is time to do your pets a favor and find them new homes!

1-0 out of 5 stars CHILD NEGLECT ON CHRISTMAS
I think this is a horrible book. A baby left alone with the dog on Christmas while his parents go to Church and to grandma's house. The baby is going through town a night in the snow in his pajamas. I have a hard time getting my child not to sit on the dog already I don't need him getting ideas that he can ride on a dogs back. Just the whold idea of leaving your baby with the dog is horrible.

1-0 out of 5 stars Leave your baby home with the dog?
I just could not get past the idea of this book. A family leaves a baby home alone with a rottwielier on Christmas day. The dog then rides the baby on its back through the cold city streets even stopping to peer into the window of another family enjoying their Christmas together - babies included. ... Read more

Book Description

It's happening again. The Monroes's kitchen is littered with the remains of vegetables, drained of all color. To Chester, it's obvious: Bunnicula, the vampire rabbit, is up to his old tricks.

But Harold is more frightened for Bunnicula than of him. The poor bunny doesn't look too good. Is he sick? Or just unhappy? Or has Chester finally gone too far in his attempt to make the world safe for veggies?

One thing's for sure: Harold isn't going to let anything bad happen to his long-eared pal -- even if it means leaving the comfort of his home, losing his best friend, and risking his own life. And if he fails -- could this be the end of Bunnicula?

Don't miss any of the adventures of Harold, Chester, Howie, and the vampire bunny, Bunnicula! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Bunnicula Strikes Again
Do you like adventure books? Do you like animals? I know I do and I know that's why I loved the book "Bunnicula Strikes Again", and I bet you will too! This book is about a cat named Chester and two dogs named Harold and Howie on a mission to find Bunnicula's (the so called vampire rabbit's) mom. They think he's a vampire because Chester says that he sucks the juice out of vegetables. Will they find Bunnicula's mother? Will they stop all vampire rabbits? You just have to read the book and find out!

4-0 out of 5 stars You *have* to like this book
Oh come on. It's BUNNICULA! I don't care what anyone else says - these books are great, including this one. Know what? Even though it's been a long time since I was a kid, I still love these books, including this one. As a matter of fact, I think anyone who loves vampires and vampire fiction should read this book and the others - because these are all good, quick, and alltogether very FUN reads that you don't have to take seriously. And sometimes, a good quick fun read just hits the spot.

And it has to be said - Bunnicula is the most loveable vampire ever. Lestat and Dracula WISH they were this cuddly!

5-0 out of 5 stars i luv bunnicula
i have nearly read all the bunnicula books (except the 'the house of bunnicula' ones. I liked this one because it had a happy ending. i like bunnicula books because they are those kind of books that you can't put down. you wonder what would happen next. i can not wait until more books come!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Joe (Class SS)
This book was about Chester trying to destroy Bunnicula, a rabbit. The dogs in the story are Howie and Howard. Chester thinks Bunnicula is a vampire because of his fangs, and because he extracts juice out of vegetables. Chester drinks Bunnicula's carrot juice to starve Bunnicula. Howie and Howard go to find Bunnicula. Bunnicula is gone without a trace. Howard spots a newspaper that says Dracula is playing at the movie theatre. This is the same theatre where Bunnicula was found by The Monroe family. Little did Bunnicula know, the newspaper was a few days old. Today the movie theatre is getting torn down. Howard and Howie try to find Bunnicula, but they find Chester. Chester saves Bunnicula from the demolition. Still Chester thinks Bunnicula is a vampire. The End

4-0 out of 5 stars Bunnicula Brings back the old-style stories again!
I was rather pleased with this publication because the story line appealed more to the older Bunnicula stories. The spine tingling events surrounding Bunnicula's mother and *gasp* a trip to the vet all add up to a worth-while read. You'll enjoy some of the old friends that Harold , Howie, and Chester run into along the way. I did buy this book at a higher price at a book store and thought it was well worth it.... If you liked the other stories, you will love the conclusion to the Bunnicula series *as it seems to hint that it is* ... Read more

This book is great. It's easy to read, and very cute. I think it's a great beginners book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best kids book EVER written hands down!
This was the book I learned to read with. It is still my favorite, even though I am now 18. I buy it for ALL baby gifts. No words can describe how fun this book is. MUST BUY!!! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't live without it!
Just as a previous reviewer stated, I am ordering a second copy of this book. I bought it on a whim when my son was 6 mos old. He's a little over two now and still wants this book read EVERY night as part of his routine.

The big pictures and easy words are a great learning tool. It's just enough to stimulate interest but not overstimulate. The length is pretty good too.

Definately worth the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars We love Sleepy Dog
Sleepy Dog has eased our child into bedtime every night for over a year. The book contains recognizable subject matter for even the youngest of children. It even brings up a nightmare in a very lighthearted way, so as not to frighten children. This book has prevented our child from ever having a traumatic bedtime experience. Thumbs up!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect first book!
This was my son's first book and I am now ordering our second copy since the first has been used SO much. He has many, many favorite books but this easy-to-read delightful bedtime story still stays on the top of his list and I would venture to say, this will not be the last copy I end up purchasing either. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars HERE, KITTY, KITTY !

You don't have to be a feline fancier (although it helps) to enjoy these lilting rhymes about the cats in our lives. From "Finicky Felicia" to "Trapped!" author Crawley perfectly captures the ways and whims of these lovable creatures, whether it's awakening you at the crack of dawn, climbing into your lap when you're trying to read, or finding total pleasure in a piece of string.

Illustrator Tamara Petrosino who shares her New Jersey home with a cat named Charlie, filled end papers with kitties of all stripes. Her colorful, humorous paintings capture cats at their best and worst. An illustration of "Cat Bath" is especially fetching. After all, "Don't ever try to wash a cat.It simply doesn't work.If you should put her in the tub, the cat will go berserk."

Cat lovers of all ages will find much to smile about in "Cat Poems."
