4-0 out of 5 stars Simple But Sweet
This simple but sweet 'Arthur' work is probably aimed at a younger audience than the main targets of the T.V. show- 3rd graders, however, like all 'Arthur' works, it can appeal to all ages. The plot is something of a simple mystery that should work the brains of youngsters, and at least amuse the older readers. The illustrations are probably the best part of the book, each page is vividly illustrated in full color with plenty of ambient background details as well. My only complaint is that Marc gets some of the details wrong. For example, D.W. gets her face painted as a cat, and on the very next page, it is gone. Also, the number of pink stripes on outfit seems to keep changing. (Okay, okay, one gets bored.) Overall, excellent work though. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Archie, charming as ever
It's the day of the neighborhood pet show, and Archie plans to take his cat. But where IS the cat? Archie can't find it, so Peter, Roberto, and Susie reluctantly go to the pet show without him.

Ensuring that each contestant is a winner, the judges give out blue ribbons to everyone, creating categories on the fly, such as "cat with the longest whiskers," "friendliest fish," etc. Archie finally arrives, but an old woman shows up just as Archie is displaying his hasty last-second entry (a jar, containing a germ). Beside the old woman is Archie's cat. The old woman is given the blue ribbon for displaying the cat.

Archie displays good humor and grace. The old woman offers the blue ribbon to Archie, but he insists that she keep it. Archie and his friends all enjoy themselves.

Like most of Ezra Jack Keats' books, _Pet Show_ is populated with children and adults of several ethnicities, but primarily African-American. The book design is marvelous. Basically the book looks like _A Letter To Amy_ and _Whistle for Willie_.

My son and I read this one all the time. He's almost 2 1/2 years old, and while I expect that most children are enjoying this at age 4 and age 5, my son thoroughly loves it. When we reach the section where Archie is late for the pet show, he almost can't contain himself until he sees Archie's silhouette racing along, jar in hand, and he belts out "Here Goes Archie!"-- _Pet Show_ is a winner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pet Show - Cute Even For the Moms and Dads Who Read It :)
Poor Archie. In the previous EJK book "Hi Cat," a darn alley cat follows him home after wreaking havoc with his day. Now, in "Pet Show," Archie is ready to enter the contest with said cat -- but cat has vanished. Archie ultimately displays cleverness as well as kindness, a wonderful lesson for little ones. EJK's books are always visually gorgeous, with colors and textures that delight readers. But even the grownup who reads this book will appreciate clever little Archie and the reminder that sometimes, tough situations require a little ingenuity and a helping of grace.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great children's book and what pictures!!
I liked this book because of its colorful illustrations that enliven the story. The stories that Ezra Jack Keats write are so good to use for children to relate to. I recomend his books to teachers to use in bibliotherapy and for just anyone to read. I also have read "Peter's Chair" and again just as in all his other books you find real life situations in relation to life. Then there's his wonderfull illustrations. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Taking your fate in your own paws
This is an inspiring tale of a motley crew of animals who, whisked away from an animal shelter in the dead of night, take their fate into their own paws (need I say it is told from their point of view?). Despite hardship and trauma, by working together most of them make it back to the shelter and some are eventually adopted into loving families.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book for Pet Lovers
I highly recommend this book for all pet lovers of any age. The author does a great job of creating realistic personalities for her characters that are recognizable to most pet owners. My husband and I read the book within days of its arrival, and both of us were completely wrapped up in the story. The tale moves very quickly, it addresses problems familiar to the casual pet owner, the dedicated shelter volunteer, and most importantly to the "extra" pets who are hoping to find a real family. I will be buying extra copies for gifts. You should, too! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One wascaly wabbit
The sweetest little South Korean import on the market today. Admittedly, I'm not particularly familiar with a lot of translated South Korean books for children sold in America. But due to the fact that, "While We Were Out", (originally titled in South Korea, "What On Earth Happened During That Time") is twice as adorable as 95% of picture books written in the English language, it's probably a fair guess.

In this simple book, the family rabbit goes exploring in her owners' house while they're away visiting grandma. The family itself is never seen. Instead, we follow the rabbit as she traipses from room to room, exploring and testing. The rabbit applies lipstick to her face. She settles in for a good movie. She rollerblades (with the help of some strong chopsticks, of course). All the while the little rabbit is determining her own taste and in the end she fully believes she's gotten away without the family ever knowing. There's a cute (and very realistically rabbit-like) twist on the ending of this tale. Anyone who's ever had a fluffy bunny as a pet will instantly understand that this is EXACTLY how their own rabbit might explore the home. "While We Were Out" will not change anyone's life or bowl you over with its style. It is a sweet simple tale told with humor and beauty. Just the perfect book for any time of day.

5-0 out of 5 stars A sweet story about a little rabbit
Children's books about animals are one of my favorites to review -- especially when the main character has a mind of his own :).

The book, "While You Were Out," by Ho Baek Lee, is about a little rabbit whose owners forget to lock the door to the balcony. When the little rabbit discovers this, she goes exploring throughout the house. While inside, she finds a lot of fun things to do.

MyParenTime.com highly recommends this book -- it's short sentences and simple renderings make this story very enjoyable for young children. The ending is sure to leave a trail...pun intended :).

5-0 out of 5 stars A Story That Makes Them Giggle
This book is just right for my five-year-old bunny loving daughter. It's a simple story of what the pet bunny does when the family leaves, and he sneaks into the house. It's a little reminiscent of Alexandra Day's Carl books, in that when the pet is left alone, he takes on some human characteristics. For instance, this bunny has lunch at the table and tries out roller skating. Very cute- just the right amount of text, a great cuddle up and giggle story. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfection
I have all the previous books in this series and would recommend them to everyone. I also have both scotties and westies, and Wells and Jeffers capture the spirit, expressions and body language of these dogs perfectly. The stories are very cute and have been very popular with the children I have tested them on. McDuff is an adorable character and I hope to have new volumes soon!

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant.
Each time a McDuff book comes out, I worry that it's the last of the series as I wonder where the story could possibly go next. I was therefore so thrilled and amazed to find McDuff Goes to School last week. What a brilliant twist that he learns French! I am not a parent or teacher -- I just appreciate the beauty of children's books. This is a great way to introduce a foreign language to very young kids by using a character and context that's engaging. It also sends a message that just because someone doesn't understand your language, doesn't mean they are stupid. Okay, I confess I am also a Westie mum so I find the McDuff books so damn cute I want to cry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scottie & Westie Tales
Being the owner of a Scottie, a Westie and a Cairn as well as an avid art collector of breed-related items, I am so impressed with the capturing of the expressions of the Scottie (Marie) and the Westie (McDuff) in this book. The artist really knows the breeds and the author as well. They both capture the wonderful spirit and essence of the beloved dogs. A great story that children of all ages will love - even this 39 year old kid. Bravo!

5-0 out of 5 stars Tres Bien!
Two new elements have been added to the wonderful McDuff books: Marie Antoinette who is a charming French Scottie and the use of French phrases for obedience training. Grandpa read the book last night to our granddaughters, aged five and seven. They listened well to the story and spent about 30 minutes attempting to get our Westie to respond to "sit" "stay" and "lie down" in French. The girls enjoyed saying the French words, too. Tres Bien, again, Rosemary & Susan! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun read to boost confidence
These simple stories are loved by my children, age three and five. My five year old, just learning to read, loves the fact that he can pick out certain words which are often repeated, as well as look at the pictures, and 'read' the story without help. The gentle humor is just right for this age group, and the illustrations are sweet. We read our Winnie series almost every night and the kids don't get tired of them. I highly recommend them for all beginner readers!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for beginning readers
Great books for this age group are difficult to come by, and Leda Schubert has created two of them with Winnie Plays Ball and Winnie All Day Long. A hugh, lovable dog, Winnie proves to be a totally appealing character for young children, and her activities engage their imaginations. These books have the same classic charm as Cynthia Rylant's Henry and Mudge stories, and they are enormously popular with very young children. ... Read more

this story is very amazing.i think this story is difference from another story.as the characters are 101 Dalmatians, the story is around them and another animals will help pengo to find his children.it has very meaningful .it teach us to help people when they have problems.it is a good chance for us toknow more about animals' world.the content is creative and wonderful.it is because the story is around animals' world and the backgound was very clear that a woman want to use the skin of Dalmatians' to make a fur.it is very wonderful

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful........
The book I read aloud to my 7 year old daughter is the 1956, 1957 Copyright with a yellow hardback cover with drawings of dogs on it. The illustrators are Janet and Anne Grahame-Johnstone.

This book is fun and exciting and is more enjoyable than the Disney cartoon version. You will be surprised by the Dalmation Perdita in this book. She is not what you expect. Also, you will not find out where the "101th Dalmation" comes from until the last two chapters unless you are very, very perceptive. I kept coming up with 100 total Dalmations until the very end.

This book is a must read for everyone; but, you will probably have to borrow it from your local library. This book needs to be rereleased.

5-0 out of 5 stars The movies have nothing on this delightful story
We bought this audio book hoping to wean our young children (who enjoyed both movie versions of this book very much) off of movies and get them more interested in "real stories."

I have to tell you that this story far exceeded my expectations. Not only was it a fun story that my children enjoyed immensely, but one with subtleties, humor and bits of truth sprinkled throughout that had me listening and laughing right alongside them.

There are a lot of dog stories out there and I admit to being a dog-lover (well at least of big dogs), but this is a lot more than just a dog story. Certainly there's a great deal of humor, adventure and ... Dalmatians... but underneath all that you get many tidbits of truth that are applicable to life itself.

Martin Jarvis does a fabulous job in narrating this unabridged classic. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars The whole family will find this fun and a fine listen
101 Dalmations deserves ongoing mention as an excellent audio that will appeal to a wide age range. Martin Jarvis' smooth voice provides a clear, unabridged production bringing to life the classic story of a host of puppies who must escape the cruel Cruella de Vil in order to get back to their home. Cruella has a fur coat in mind - made of dalmations. The whole family will find this fun and a fine listen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for kids!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Series
As an adult I love these stories. They are repetitive and have a rhythm. This is what the kids love about the books. My son loves the part where Mr. Putter's knees are cranky. Instead of using the word old, decrepit, or any other word that may be over the heads of kids; they used cranky. Kids can relate to this word! It is a true story of friendship. This is a funny story. Kids will love making their predictions as to how the book ends. This is the type of book to let them practice with predictions. It is easy enough that a beginner to chapter books would have an easy time with this book. The words are simple and so is the storyline. This is why Cynthia Rylant's books are all terrific! I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wondeful Autumn Story - Mr. Putter and Tabby Style!
The Mr. Putter and Tabby series are the sort of books that I would have loved to have when I was a beginning reader. I know that I would have read them over and over again to no end, even once they began to fall apart from constant use. That's why I am so glad that Mr. Putter and Tabby are around now while my youngest brother is learning to read. The non-repetitious (words are repeated, but not enough to become explicit), non-rhyming storytelling contained within the books makes them a pleasure to read continually, unlike many other easy-reader books. And in my opinion, the Mr. Putter and Tabby books are a step in front of Ms. Rylant's Henry and Mudge collection, due to the fact that, in their own way, they create an appreciation for the elderly as the reader comes to love Mr. Putter, the aging main character whose only companion is his cat, Tabby.

In Mr. Putter and Tabby Pick the Pears, the fourth book in the series, Mr. Putter attempts to pick the pears from the tree in his backyard. The ailments that come with old age try to keep him from accomplishing his task, but Mr. Putter soon comes up with a witty and humorous solution that will have everyone laughing while they continue turning pages to see how it all ends.

Mr. Howard's cartoon-style illustrations greatly enhance this wonderful story, which is written in such a format to be used as either a 3-chapter book for the beginning reader, or a bedtime story that is longer in length. Either way, the Mr. Putter and Tabby books would be a great find for emerging readers' shelves. Like having a kindly old grandpa next door, they only make life richer!

5-0 out of 5 stars 4year old son and I both adore this book...
I wish we lived next door to Mr. Putter! This is such a nice book. The part where Mr. Putter cuts up an old pair of boxer shorts to get elastic to make a slingshot is just silly enough to please a potty-humor-newbie, yet is still tasteful.

My son loved all the descriptions of "juicy things"...apple cider, apple pie, pear jelly, apple turnovers. Every time we read this book, he wants to make a different "juicy thing".

I love the comfortable companionship between Mr. Putter and Tabby, as well as the wonderful drawings. This book makes me want to check out the other Mr. Putter and Tabby books!

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming, sweet and funny children's book
I brought this book to my daughter's Kindergarten class for story time and all of the children were completely enthralled while I read it to them. They particularly loved the way Mr. Putter made a sling shot out of a gift from his brother (poodle boxer shorts). This is a really sweet book, showing people being very nice and considerate, while at the same time it's very funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars A charming and funny tale about aging.
A wonderful way to heighten a child's awareness of aging. The story is funny, yet treats the main character with dignity. It has enough repetition to allow word-recognition by a four year old. The illustrations are priceless. It was a hit at preschool storytime. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful easy reader -parents will enjoy it, too.
Henry and Mudge books are some of the best books available to beginning readers, and parents would be hard-pressed not to enjoy them as well. While a few of the books in the series show Henry's idyllically happy parents in a way that might make children from less traditional families sad or "homesick" for that situation, this particular book is purely about a little boy, his big dog, their imaginations, and being a kid in the summer. Cynthia Rylant's writing is fun yet poetic, and Sucie Stevenson's illustrations are charming as always.

5-0 out of 5 stars Summer adventures with H&M!
Henry and Mudge are the best of friends. It doesn't matter at all that one of them walks on four legs and drools a lot!!

In this third book in the H&M series, summertime has arrived with adventures galore for boy & dog. Divided into chapters, each functioning as a mini story but related to each other, Henry and his 180-pound dog Mudge explore the wide, green world of summer. In one of the most notable chapters, a bee stings Henry, and boy does it HURT!! Fortunately, good ol' Mudge is there to make Henry feel better (a good face-licking by Mudge helps Henry forget his pain at being stung-Mudge likes the salty taste of tears).

As a teacher I love the H&M series because the illustrations are always bright, vibrant and immediately draw my students into the story. I also love the short, easy sentences, which are perfect for beginning-to-intermediate readers who feel that they're ready to tackle chapter books. As a parent, I love the way that this series is about the small adventures in life that are right on the level of the reader. Nothing blows up, aliens don't invade the countryside sucking out peoples' innards, and the world isn't narrowly saved from oblivion. Mudge is a wonderfully realistic dog that is completely devoted to Henry, like most real dogs are devoted to the children they live with.

As of this writing, there are some 20 H&M books, each a small treasure and each a wonderful read. Though they're numbered, it's not at all necessary to begin with #1 and progress up to #20; readers can grab whichever title catches their whim and follow along with the adventures. I myself have read them all and am not so patiently waiting for the next ones to come out. Each book comes highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite of them all...so far
My 4-year-old son, Frank, has 16 of the 18 (?) books that are available in this collection, and although all of them come hightly recommended, I believe Green Time to be the best. This book highlights all that is good about a boy and his dog. Rylant never personifies Mudge too much but depicts their relationship beutifully. When my son read about Mudge getting a bath, he giggled as each part was washed. But the biggest surprise was watching his sheer delight as Mudge shook from head-to-toe. He understands that Henry would cry when he gets stung by a bee, and he laughed when Mudge eats popcorn. These books are simple and kind, and I hope there are more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars But the cat came back the very next day...
Not, as you may have guessed, a book in the famous "The Cat Who" series by Lillian Jackson Braun.Instead, this is a simple tale of a man and his cat.Stories of this ilk are nine times out of ten relegated to the dogs of the world. We can find a million "a man and his dog" books out there, so it is that much more impressive when the companion of the tale is a little more feline.Author Terry Farish, previously disposed to writing books for young adults, and the remarkable Barry Root have teamed together to bring us a story of good old-fashioned friendship and bonding.

The book begins, "There was an old man, an ol' Texas boy, country-raised, don't you know".He lives alone with his cat, to whom he is very attached, "but not so's you'd notice".Man and cat live a nice peaceful life. When the man goes out to fish, the cat sits on the prow of the boat, though she never catches anything.Truthfully, she's never caught a thing in her whole life, a fact that the man brings up regularly. But they share bowls of potato soup together and are quite contented with their lot.You get the distinct feeling that the man is retired and that this is how he prefers to spend his days. One day, the man finds that the cat is still sleeping when he's ready to go fishing. Not one to wait too long, he leaves without her, reasoning that he doesn't need her. When the cat wakes to find the man gone (a thing that has never occurred before) she leaves home. The man comes back to an empty home and for three days the cat does not return. One day he comes home and there's the cat on the porch, one paw on the biggest fish you ever did see.The cat howls her story, which the man picks up on pretty well, and at long last the two are back in the goods."And he loved the sight of her, oh, and this time you'd notice".And in time the cat forgives the man and, "then came sweet peace".

There's a tone to the dialogue and text of this book that's as easy and pleasant on the ear as you could hope for in a picture book. The man, for his part, is the type to mutter words like, "Fool cat. You ain't nobody's prize. Never killed nothin'".These two could be living anywhere in the continental United States, honestly. The man's grouchy, but he's never downright mean, and the cat matches him in spirit, sticking up for herself when she needs to.Alone, the book's a great read.Paired with Root's illustrations, it's a dream come true.Barry Root has somehow captured the feel and tone of this story perfectly. From the man's small ramshackle little house (note the toilet bowl under the mailbox that reads, "Junk mail") to that baseball cap the man always wears, to the truck he drives.Heck, I even liked box of Kleenex that sits forlornly on the man's dining room table. If I have any problems with the pictures in this book, perhaps Roots didn't make the man as curmudgeonly looking as he is in the text. But this is a minor/ tiny/ petty/ miniscule complaint. The book's a fantastic looking piece of work.Though you never learn the name of either the man or the cat, you don't need to.They stand on their own well enough. And this isn't a book about some grand rich person or even a person who works in a professional manner. This is about a guy who'd like nothing better than to live on his own with his cat and to go fishing every day.Remarkably, it makes fantastic reading for the young ones.

The best way to tell if you're going to like this book or not is to just take a gander at the cover.Blow it up big so that you can get a good long look at it.If the shot of that cat (her mouth smiling and the man in the back of the boat) doesn't appeal to you then you probably won't enjoy this book. But if you like cats or men or just honest straightforward storytelling, then this is the book for you.It does not aim beyond its station, but it's a strong well-told tale that you could read again and again and get a little more out of every time.I wish that all picture books could do half as much.

4-0 out of 5 stars A tale that will please people of all ages
This is a gentle, sweet tale that children will enjoy and parents will enjoy reading to them. The ending is satisfying and the kids will have to think about the relationship between the man and the cat. The illustrations are large and because of this, it makes this a good book to read to a large group of children.

5-0 out of 5 stars A UNIQUE, RICH TALE
This endearing story about an old man and his almost equally aged cat is a reminder of the bond between humans and their animals.

Now, these two, the cat and the man, got along well because both were a tad crotchety. The man sometimes lost patience with the cat because as he said, "You never killed nothin'" - not a bird, not a mouse, absolutely nothing. What the cat did like was the man's potato soup, so the man reluctantly shared it.

These two did almost everything together; they even went fishing with the cat sitting in the prow of the boat looking very much like a hood ornament.Evidently, the cat loved to do that as she poked her face into the wind and seemed quite happy out on the water.

Problems arose one day when the man was already to go fishing and the cat was still asleep. So, as mentioned, he was a bit of a grump, and he decided to go without her. What was the cat supposed to do when she awoke to an empty house?

As always, Barry Root's lovely watercolor illustrations add richness to this tale of a unique, deeply felt love.

4-0 out of 5 stars Make the song come to life with pictures
My sons love Raffi music and videos. We have checked out all of his "song" books at the library so I decided to buy a few of them for our own use. My guys grab the books when they hear the song and like me to turn the pages with the music. My only complaint is that the library editions had the music and words at the back, whereas the board books do not, so if you can carry a tune but haven't heard the song, you won't know the rhythm of the music. But these books are still great for reading, even if you don't know the tune. And if you have Raffi music in the car, include this book for the back seat passengers to "read" while the music is playing.

Baby Beluga has delightful illustrations of "sea creatures" (whales, penguins, etc) as well as making the song personal by including a young eskimo child in the book. Most children are fans of whales, seals and the like anyways, but parents should enjoy reading this book to their children. It's easy to read, with clear, large print and simple pictures. Great for the toddler age to read or sing along and the short enough for the under 18 months crowd. And while the animals are not labeled, it would be perfect for a before and after book if you take young children to an aquarium or zoo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful book, but combined with music, its IRRESISTIBLE!
"Baby Beluga" tells the story of a little Beluga Whales daily adventures in the "deep blue sea." The beautiful illustrations and charming story captured my attention instantly. Not familiar with Raffi, and his music, I was unaware of the popularity of the song, by the same title, until noticing the back cover, where it is mentioned. I have since purchased the CD, and CAN NO LONGER read this book; I have to SING it! "Baby Beluga in the deep blue sea, swim so wild and you swim so free. Heaven above and the sea below, and a little white whale on the go."

The editorial comments regarding Ashley Wolff's illustrations are harsh. As an artist, I regard the work to be first-rate! The mostly analogous color palette (ocean blues and greens) is bright and true to life, while the expressions are communicative and warm. Perhaps, a little more contrast between the Beluga Whales and the sea is in order, but that is a personal preference. Besides, compared to ANY of the severely cold computer-generated images available in books today, the illustrations in this book are superior. "Baby Beluga" is a delightful book independently, although, combined with the music; it is IRRESISTIBLE! One-year and up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome children's book
This book is soooooooo.... cute. My daughter loved it! This has become one of her favorite animals.... A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR EVERY CHILDS LIBRARY. Also in the back of the book are the words and music notes. A great children's book, beautiful pictures, and simple to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars We love baby beluga
My daughter loves this book. Loves the variety of sea animals and the like. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the animal is with the unicorn horn sticking out of its head. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars The only thing missing is the music!
My two year old daughter LOVES this book/song. My only complaint is that in this book, the music isn't included at the end (Raffi's "Wheels on the Bus" song to read has the sheet music included on the last page). Without also owning the "Baby Beluga" Raffi CD, we wouldn't know the tune. Other than that, it's great. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the funniest books about cats I've ever read!
Lee Harris has struck gold with his charming feline friend, Pebbles. His book is a must-read for all cat lovers and a must-buy gift for those of you who have to put up with us. Never Let Your Cat Make Lunch for You is a short tale/tail about how the very talented and creative cat, Pebbles, comes up with great breakfasts for her friend and caretaker, a little girl. While these breakfasts are fun and nourishing for both cat and child, the child sternly warns you against ever letting your cat make lunch for you. She knows from experience that what sounds like a yummy sandwich for a cat, may not be so yummy for humans. Then again, maybe you'll like Pebbles' ideas for lunch. You never know until you try them.

Hand in hand with Lee's marvelous story is the artwork of Debbie Tilley. Tilley has masterfully captured the expressions of a thinking, creative, and somewhat wily little feline. Pebbles comes to life in full color illustrations.

While this book is theoretically a children's book--and yes, children will love it--it is also a book for cat lovers of any age.

5-0 out of 5 stars Never Let Your Cat Make Lunch for You
This book is wonderful! Easy reading, light, fun, and humorous. After receiving the book, I took it home and read it to my cat. I laughed and re-read it again. I plan on reading this book to my Grandchildren at Christmas time, ages: 2 years, 5 years, and 5 months. Granted the 5 month old will not understand, but in the future she will. The illustrations are great, too. Easy for children to identify with. I hope this author continues to write.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son's favorite!!
I was lucky enough to meet the author at a book signing where I purchased this as a gift for my son. He's 7 and this is by far his favorite book. He never gets tired of reading it, or having it read to him. I agree with the gentleman who said it's a great book for kids and cat lovers alike!! The relationship between the cat and the young owner is obviously one of great love, and how can you go wrong with that, no matter what the story is about!!??

5-0 out of 5 stars adorable drawings
The premise of this book is cute, and the drawings make the story even better. Good for kids and parents to share with kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun For All
When I actually read the book, I was amazed. Being a 20 year old male, I don't typically read this type of book nor do I know much about them, but this one really was fun to read. The story is very easy to read, but never loses its fun. I would recommend this book to any person with kids or to any cat lover (like myself). Great book, great author, you just can't go wrong. 5 stars. ... Read more

"Students, this is Library Week. Every day this week our class will be going to the library," announces Mrs. Furber. The class's pet mouse, I.Q., is thrilled. He's never been to the library before.

Once there, Mrs. Binder, the librarian, reads a funny book to the class. I.Q. thinks the story is hilarious and is determined to check out the book. Unfortunately, Mrs. Binder reshelves the book, necessitating a week-long hunt by I.Q. Each day, as the class returns to the library to learn about its many resources, I.Q. tags along. While searching for the funny book he makes delightful discoveries about the treasures the library holds. Finally, on Friday, he finds the book. With the help of Mrs. Furber, I.Q. obtains his very own library card and checks out his book.

The illustrations, done in pencil, gouache, and pen and ink, depict the many and varied resources found in the library while at the same time featuring the comical actions of I.Q.

Fraser does a superb job at subtly weaving an introduction to libraries and their use into this warm, funny, absolutely delightful tale.

We took this book into a kindergarten class and incorporated it into a lesson on using the school library. The students adored the book---as well as I.Q.---and asked for repeated readings. Highly recommended. (...)

I had heard so many good things about the Mr. Putter books that I decided to try them out with my 3-year old daughter, thinking that she may be a bit young for more words and fewer pictures. However, there are pictures on every page and only a few sentences to each. My daughter loves these books, especially this story. Her stuffed cat has been renamed Tabby.

One of the things I love about this book is that it includes silly details that make my child laugh every time - a bird picking fake grapes off of Mrs. Teaberry's hat, pouring water out of her hat onto everyone on a hot day, the "wierd" foods they bring along for the picnic...

I know of children all the way up to 3rd grade who enjoy these books, so I highly recommend them for any kids ages 4 to 8. Or as young as 3 if your child has the attention span.

Title: No More Monsters for Me
Author: Peggy Parish
Favorite Characters: Monster, Mom

Minneapolis Simpkin wants a pet so bad that when she comes across a monster, she takes it home. Her mom said that she could not have any pets, but she didn't mention monsters. The problem is hiding the monster when it cries so much and continues to grow every time it eats. Things get even worse when the monster gets hiccups and eats everything in the basement.
Near the end, Minn tells her mom about the monster, but her mom doesn't seem to believe her. Her mom does make a certain promise to Minn if she gets rid of the monster. Read the book to find out what her mom promises.

Minneapolis Simpkin wants a pet. She and her mother fight about it all the time. Then one day she finds one, but it is a monster. But how can she ask her mom for a monster? Minneapolis hides the monster in her basement. When it eats everything in her house, she does not know what to do.

This is a more humorous story, especially if you are the kind of person who wants a pet. I think Minneapolis learns a lesson, that maybe what you want is not always what you expected. I think all of us can pretty much relate to that. If you enjoy homor stories, this is the right book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
We first bought this book for our son last year. It was one of his first pop up books. He's now 19 months and still loves the book. He tore up the first one out of sheer love of it. He's now on his second one. I'm convinced the Snappy popup books as well as the Busy Bugz popup books are responsible in part for his love of reading. He throws an occassional tantrum when we have to take the book away from him. The pop up art is fabulous and colorful. The rhyms are fun to read, short enought to keep his attention. The art is fun to play "I spy" with as well -- so much to look at on each page.

5-0 out of 5 stars not too painful to read repeatedly
