5-0 out of 5 stars Ooh . . . .
I read all the books in this series, but for some reason this one stuck in my mind the most; I don't know why.

Sita, after living 5,000 years as an immortal vampire, has finally reached a dream she never thought would happen; the alchemist's experiment (in book three) worked, and now she is finally a human, mortal. Maybe now, she thinks, she can finally have a daughter, possibly one like Lalita, the daughter she left the night she became a vampire. When Ray, whom she thought dead, shows up, she thinks she can finally achieve that dream, especcially when she becomes pregnant, and finds a new friend, Paula, who also happens to be pregnant. But the baby grows at an unnatural speed, the birth is painful. Sita names the child Kalika, not Lalita "she who plays" but instead "she who kills." And it seems she is right. The child grows fast, and craves blood. Sita returns to her old ways to find blood for her demanding daughter. And Ray seems so . . . different, not the old Ray who cringed at the sight of blood, now he tries to make sure Sita is feeding their daughter.

When Kalika is physically twenty, Sita slowly begins to understand who her daughter is. And just what Kalika wants with Paula's child, the strange boy with pale blue eyes whose blood has the power to heal . . .

I know that most people say this book isn't as good as the rest, but I think it is. It just stuck in my mind, and I've read it over and over. It is good, but is a little confusing at parts. But, read it if you've read the first three.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Last Vampire 4: The Phantom
I really liked this series, and this book was one of the highlights in reading the whole series. I didn't read the series in the order that you are supposed to. I read the third book first then the first then the fourth then the second then the fifth and the sixth. I enjoyed this particular book in the series because it had more of a twist to it and a huge change in events. I loved the way that she wasn't a vampire anymore and that she had a little girl. I liked the way that it sort of cut off at the end but not in an incomplete way. It was just kind of more like a story that when it ended lkeft it at a point where there could be another book. I also enjoyed how Christopher Pike made Kalika something other human. That was my favorite part of the book. I like how he makes special women in his books. The book is like a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat not wanting to miss a single line. Instead you just wish that you read faster so that you could read what was going to happen next sooner. I thought that it was great, and it left me dying to read more.

3-0 out of 5 stars I felt this was the downfall of the series
I stated in a review of one of the other books that the books, in my opinion, got dumber with each one. This I feel is the downfall of the series. Its interesting in a sense, yet not entirely. The only kicker I find to this book (that prevented me from giving it 2 stars) was the ending when it is revealed what the child is.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, yet confusing
This book was great, except i didn't read the first 3, since they weren't in the library. This made the book confusing, but i still read it & couldn't put the book down, till i finished. I hope i can read the others, real soon. Plus I am a huge fan of PIKE'S. He is an inspiration to me & i hope someday I too can follow in the same direction, but not the exact same path as him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This is book #4 in the vampire series. I own all of them as well as the collectors editions. I would highly recommend these to all readers of Christoper Pike as well as readers who have any fascination with the supernatural. Christopher Pike has really written a keeper here. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love the book-
This book was great I never knew what was to happen next and better yet who would win the battle. I think Christopher Pike did a great job with this and his series. He made a book just how I like one not always rushing to an ending, he made it into another book. I suggest anyone who likes horror mixed with action to read this book and don't rush! My opinion to this book is a great one and a thank-you to Christopher Pike. Any one else who has read this book would probably agree to just about all my words. Now I tell about the characters and the plot of the story. The to main characters are Alisa, a five thousand year old vampire who is going against her very own daughter to stop her from getting her best friend's baby Christ. Alisa can't believe it herself that the world has now a new Missiah. So now Alisa tries best with her power to try and stop her daughter from killing the new Missiah. However, to do this Alisa gets help from a group to help shoot down Kalika. The great thing about that is that it is a war against to equally as powered beings one with knowledge and one with strength.

I know that this book is the best chose for horror and fantasy because has some really gruesome stuff. This book is great for readers at an average reading level and you must read # 4 before #5. If you read this review please read the book, because it only gets better. I hope I gave enough information to be interested in this book

5-0 out of 5 stars Christopher Pike is still the best ever!!!
I started reading Christopher Pike books in the summer before i started 6th grade because I got them as hand me downs from a friend. I started off with Fall into Darkness and right now i have 25 of his books and still collecting and i love every single one of them and ive read them over and over. Last Vampire 5 was the rarest book of the series and it took me 4 months to find it! I got it thanx to Amazon for used yay lol I read the book and it was so gripping how everything balances off another and you know everything from the book before. Never read the last vampire series out of order that would totally mess them up read them 1-6 and you'll go crazy over them! Im a really crazy freak I'll admit it like when i see someone reading it ill immediately jump on it and tell the person stuff to get them interested into christopher pike. I dont even know if christopher pike is still writing or when his last book was but hes still my favorite author ever. Not only do I love his books but they have been helping me write a book of my own because i pretty much have always wanted to be a writer and my friends have told me I would be great for it and thanx to christopher pike i think Im going to chase that dream!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Vampire 5
The Last Vampire 5 is an excellent book. It can be grusome at times, but that is what makes it a good book. Buy it or you will regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing Is As It Seems
Loved this book. This book sparked my favorite quote and motto. It is simply profound. The agony of fufilling one's purpose without outside thought interferring with one's ego, is hard! It's also a good read. Sita and Kalika are classic characters. My favorite book in the series.

3-0 out of 5 stars I was confused at some points
I read this book in like 2 days, but got confused between the flash backs and the present day. Once again, super natural being from the past (Egypt God or something like that who is really an alien or something) that she thought she killed (first rule of killing, unless the head comes off the body, it's alive. Then destroy the body to be sure. Then destroy the atoms of the body.) is back and terrorizing people and killing, blah blah blah. Her daughter is supposedly the only hope or something and gets ripped apart by this God/Alien thing. What I find interesting is if the super child of Sita gets the smack down Bruce Lee style, how did Sita defeat the thing to begin with thousands of years ago. Aww well. Maybe it was explained and because I was so bored, I didn't see it. By the time I got to this book I was just reading the series (and flipped to the last page hoping it would be the last book only to scream that it wasn't) because I hate starting a book series and not reading all of it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings about the ending
I started reading The Last Vampire series when it first came out, and I remember checking the bookstore everytime the next installment was going to be available! Although I'm an adult now (although I was wee a preteen when the series started), I've still reread most of the installments. It's truly amazing how Pike manages to flesh out such a complete characterization. Talk about exposition.

Another amazing thing is how each installment ties in so fluidly with each other and yet they stand alone with their own plot, be it her story with Ray or Joel, or her daughter. I do have to say my preference is with the first three, although all were wonderful. I'm just a sucker for the love stories, and the tragedy that comes with it, of course.

I haven't reread this one, Creatures of Forever, in awhile, but I was a bit disappointed at the end. Although it was a very well-written book (although completely obscure at this point unless you've read the entire series, which you should anyway...) I wished it wouldn't have ended the way it did. I don't want to give it away, but I did get the feeling of "she went through all of this then for what?" I wish the last paragraph was left out, basically. Pike probably ended it the way he did because it was the only way *to* end the series without being tempted to continue on. Still, it's great escapism. If you're a young woman, you will identify with Sita, and it's incredibly easy to imagine yourself in her situation.

I love the wit and humor Pike uses. It's very unlike a "YA novel" since most, like R.L. Stine, seem completely ludicrous (dialogue, especially) when you read them over the age of 15. Pike, on the other hand, doesn't pander to the lowest (or youngest) common denominator; the writing is every bit as good as any "adult" novel I've read.

You might be disappointed after reading this, if only because you'll wish there were more to the series. I can't believe they haven't adapted this to a movie or tv series, especially with the success of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (which I highly recommend if you enjoy this genre).

5-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable!!! A definate 10!!!
Of all the books I've read, this one probably makes me think the most, but then all of Mr. Pike's books make me think. I agree with Mr. Pike when he says that me believes Sita herself wrote the story and not him. Although you are a talented author, I don't see how you could have come up with so many different twists in this book, but then what do I know?

I cried at the end of this book, like I did with Evil Thirst. Mr. Pike made me question everything I believe in. And I thank him for that. I would like to see another author try and make a believable character as well as Mr. Pike did. I doubt it will ever be done. Sita seems so much a part of life, that you would expect to find her if you looked for her. But I think there is a little bit of her in most people, because she shows human nature: which is to fear and hate what it does not understand. I wish this series was made into a movie, so that we could really see Sita.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars :-)
I love the last vampire series, they are the best books ive ever read. the ending was so good and it made me kind of sad and happy at the same time. the characters were so real and i love the unusual names... sita, lalita and kalika. i love these books and i could read them over and over :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I thought that Pike couldn't have written it better. The whole damn series was absolutley amazing. I loved the ending....even though it was sad. It just closed up the series even though I wished he would have made a 7th and 8th and so on......Thank you Pike for writing these books! I really wish I could hear more adventures of Sita though :(

3-0 out of 5 stars Took me almost 5 years to read this...
I first got hold of this book when I was 13, and did not bother reading it cover to cover until I was 17. I had read the first few chapters of the book and got bored because it got too super natural (hard to believe when its about vampires right?) and returned it to my friend, only to buy it years later. The only thing I liked about the book was the ending, which was kind of sad and depressing, like life. It made you think about stuff in life and all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Vampire: The BEST Vampire Book... Ever?
Vampires. Creatures of the Night--those groovy ghoulies you love to hate, sexy and silent killers, stars of film and literature... There is so much mythology surrounding the vampire that it is indeed a unique thing to be struck with something new. I have read scores of books on the subject, some good, some great. There are however many more trite than creative stories--more predictable ones than original. This is the reason why I was so impressed with Christopher Pike's "The Last Vampire." Not only does it manage to give you a compelling and gripping story with characters that are both real and complex--it's actually refreshing. A refreshing story about vampires. And you thought it was all corpses and cobwebs!

Alisa Perne isn't new to the vampire scene, having lived it for over five thousand years. She is fleet and strong, has the keenest senses imaginable--and she's a babe. The stories you've heard about vampires? Well, some are true; most are false. Sunlight hardly effects her. She wears a crucifix as jewelry. Garlic, holy water, coffins? Stories concocted to make us feel secure. Of course, how would we feel if we knew there was nothing we could do to protect ourselves--that these terrifying creatures were real and stronger than we'd ever imagined?

Of course, vampires have problems too. There is the pesky business of keeping your identity hidden. Amazing powers aside--if the whole world knew the truth, it would be tough to do anything but hide in a cave for a few centuries. Or, you could just kill everybody. But then you come to the human factor. You used to be one, and somewhere there's still a little bit left. Some feeling, love even. It's tough to watch those you love die all around you--especially at your own hands. But the need for blood is always there. You can only prolong the inevitable. Alisa knows this all too well.

When a human detective appears with strange questions about her background--Alisa is cautious. Who is this man, and how much does he know? Has he told others? Though not a mind-reader, she knows the answers to these questions. His body, sweat, breath--they tell her everything. Someone else knows. But who?

A few decisions and swift actions later, a life is ended... and new questions begin to form. An intricate knot of time and mystery begins to loosen. New dangers will confront her--make her question everything she's learned and everything she is. New faces will torment her--filter her perception, change her resolve. It has been many centuries since she felt the emotions she will feel...

I've visited many Pike shrines and websites that claim "The Last Vampire" is one of his best--and I couldn't agree more. There is so much to say positively about this book I couldn't possibly write it all. The praise you've heard is deserving. Now, it has won my acclaim.

This book has EVERYTHING. The action is artfully played and exciting! Alisa is an expert fighter, faster and more cunning than any predator. Her prowess is uncanny; her grace trancends the page. She ceases to be a character in a book, and breathes a life of her own. Pike's story flows like water--you can easily visualize what is happening, and it looks so damn cool! It is marvelously violent, and quite bloody--though it (thankfully) refrains from droning on and on about the exquisite pleasures of gorging on young blood... Sorry, Anne Rice, we mortals can't relate--and quite frankly, you're boring us. We understand what we always have: what it feels like to love, to lose, to fear, to hate. Alisa is delightfully human, in her capacity for all these things. Her pain is real, and her dilemma is an arduous one. As far as I am concerned, this is the ONLY EXAMPLE IN WRITTEN HISTORY of the origin of vampires being explained in a fashion both comprehensible and believable. "And Jesus wept" I believe was the next line. The inclusion of Indian mythology and folklore adds a spicy aroma to this already exotic and inticing dish.

This, Pikefans, is a book you cannot miss. The sexy vampire bombshell and her lover are attractively depicted on the cover, bordered by the garish yet charming neon font we've all come to love. Delicious artwork by all-time personal and Pike-favorite, the irrepressible Brian Kotzky. Even if vampires aren't really your thing, it is one of the best examples of his work I have ever read. Truly Christopher Pike at his finest. Buy it now and avoid the nasty discomfort of being the only fan left out of the loop. Followed by five more books. Next on the list--"The Last Vampire 2: Black Blood." Bring it on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pike's greatest yet,I recommend it to everyone.
This is an edge of your seat action, mystery, suspense, thriller about Alisa, a 5,000 year old vampire finding out that an unknown someone or something stalking her,and the measures she takes to prevent it.She soon meets Ray, the son of the man she killed in self-defense and he attracts her like no mortal has in ceturies. This is without a question Pikes most exellent book.I am just starting the series so I can't tell you if the rest of the series is equally as wonderful as this one,but I can tell you that I could not stop reading this until the end.I recommend this to every one! I hope Mr. Pike continues to write more of The Last Vampire Series, and seriously considers to make this series along with the Chain Letter and the Remember Me Series into movies. This is a must read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't put it down till the end!!
The Last Vampire is a truly addictive book you will love. Once you read the first page you won't stop. Sita is 5000 yrs. old and yet she still has human emotions even though she is almost invincible. The characters are vivid and well written. And the book does have some graphic moments, but it is totally necessary to the book. It has a great surprise ending. All people should read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Man this brings back memories
I remember when this book first came out when I was in like the 5th or 6th grade. Hmm...5th, cause I remember in the 6th I did a report on the second book. Anyhoo, I found the book at a grocery store and at the time I thought Christopher Pike books were only for girls, dunno why, so I never read it in school. Me and my best friend read this book and I absolutely loved it. Its very interesting, though somewhat graphic. At the time I never thought it would span across 6 books and the final one wouldn't come out until I was in the 8th grade. However, one thing I noticed was that each book got dumber than the previous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent! Awe-Inspiring! Brilliant!
This is by far the most brilliant book I have ever read. Knowing that vampires are not what they are, like most books tell made me impress with this book. I'm disgusted with the lie that vampires have something in common with coffins, crucifix, garlic.. etc. Most of that I belive is not true. Anne Rice's bores me, Bram Stoker's disgust me. A very good start with a very impressive ending. Magnificent plot. Intriuging facts!
Highly Recommended! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pike's Best Work
I have read "The Last Vampire" series literally 100 times. My book is practically in shreads from reading it so much. I love this series so much, and it's impossible to put this book down. Pike is able to make a fictional character like a vampire and make her a real person. It is very easy to relate to Sita. She is virtually the last of her kind; alone. Everyone has felt different or lonely at some point in their life. But Sita makes us laugh; I especially love the metaphors that she uses to describe things. She can sound overly dramatic at times, but she also shares her tremendous wit with us. It is also very cool how Pike can make a person, a vampire, who has done some horrific things in her life, become an empathetic character. Truely, by the end of the first chapter, you will love Sita's character and will not be able to put the book down. "The Last Vampire" series is the best of Pike's page turning thrillers.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Vampire, Christopher Pike
This book was fantastic....I first read it when I was a lot younger, and of all the books I remember, this was toward the top of the list! I just started rereading, and I'm hooked yet again. It's intriguing, and keeps you wondering what will happen next. Sita is a likeable character, with incredible depth. She's portrayed as a confident, intellectual woman of experience, a rare find in novels, especially since it puts the blond, blue eyed prototype in the wastepaper basket. A classic in it's own right!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book should receive 10 stars!
I truly think that this is the best vampire book ever made.
This book is a must have for any vampire story lover! I read this book when I was in 6th grade and omg it literally changed my life. I was a very bad reader as a child but this book opened a door and introduced me to the wonderful stories books could actually tell. Don't think this is just a kid's book because it isn't, its so much more! Everyone no matter what age can enjoy this book and I hope it brings you as much joy as it did to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pike- What would my teenagehood have been w/o you?
You know, I really wonder what my pre-teen and teenage years would have been without Christopher Pike's wonderful work.
The Last Vampire series is my absolute favorite of his many books, and has even hooked some of my non-reading friends. Now at the age of 20, I still long to read The Last Vampire over and over and over again.
A beautiful book by an outstanding author!

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone will LOVE this book!!!
This is an awesome book!! So far I'm Half-way through the second one and it is AWESOME! Deffinity a page turner. Everyone else is right, you do get attached to Sita after the first chapter! Wow, that's all I can say! WOW! It's the best vampire book that I've ever read!!! I HIGHLY reccomend this book, you'll NEVER put it down!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars CAPTURES YOUR LIFE, YOUR SOUL, AND MAKES YOU WONDER!
Where do I begin? I'm 14 years old and have been one of Pike's biggest fans ever since I was 12 and read The Last Vampire. To me, Pike is this mystical philosopher and he's everything I have hoped for in the spiritual sense. The Season of Passage, like all of his other creations, is one of the most amazing stories I have ever read. Unlike many other authors, Pike strikes this chord deep in my soul which continues to dwell and I constantly think about the Season of Passage and any other books of his that I feel I can relate to. For example, Sati, is a book about this woman who claimed she was God and in the Last Vampire series, Sita, an ancient loving vampire who has lived 5000 years in this great abyss known as Earth. I wonder if some of Pike's tales are true. What if there is more to this world than what meets the eye? Pike satisfies me in every aspect of my being. My greatest fear has been dying and discovering that there is no God. Pike, a brilliant storyteller, is a messenger from the gods, to teach us, to make us marvel. There is so much more in this beautiful world and let me tell you, once you have read any of his books, you will understand my extreme point of view. And once you do read his books, the world becomes so much easier to live in. JUST READ THEM! PLEASE! And I also want to know more about Pike too. His real name is Michael McFadden and his picture is in the back cover of The Season of Passage. (Hardcover) I would love to meet Christopher Pike one day. And Mr. Pike, if you ever do read this, we, your devoted readers, wish you would come out into the public more! To things like BookFest, we really want to meet you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read...Recommended!
This is my all-time favourite Christopher Pike book, and quite possible my favourite book in general. This superb blend of horror, science-fiction, and fantasy captivates the reader the whole way through and the story-within-a-story concept encourages the reader to keep on reading to find out what happens to Chaneen's kingdom and Lauren's expedition to Mars. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an open mind (don't you just hate those stubborn people who refuse to enjoy something different). I remember when I first read this book two summers ago, I was enchanted and unable to put it down (I even ignored my girlfriend), and since, I have lent it to all my friends. Please, read this. It is an extraordinary read and it changed my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Don't just put this book back on the shelf because it looks to long or it looks like sci-fi it's not. Yes this is one of Pike's thicker books butit is still amazing. At first I could'nt really get into it but soon I felt like I was seeing everything through their eyes. This book was about Dr.Lauren Wagner and she went on a space mission to mars but their is a problem an alien virus that she thinks killed the russions and she is worried it might affect her crew as well. If you like this book I would suggest you read The Starlight Crystle also by Chris Pike they have much in common and I have read them both and found them both great reads. Sure this book takes awhile to get into the plot but as soon as you do it seems so real the book seems thick but once you get into it I wished it was longer so don't overlook this book because it's one of Pike's finest. Happy Reading!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally Creative Story
I don't know why I was drawn to review a book that I read so many years ago, except to say, I wish that I had never read it just so I could experience it all over again.

Without a doubt, this is hands down, my favorite Christopher Pike book, and I've read them all. This is a powerful and masterfully created story and I agree with one of the reviewers that it has gone ignored by the literary world.

I felt sucked into the story from page one--Pike's straight forward writing style works well for those of us who are "sci fi challenged."

Emotionally, readers will be drawn by curiosity to the characters as they prepare for and explore Mars. There are also several creepy moments and a wonderful backdrop of foreboding for mystery and horror fans alike. Even romance fans will feel thrilled by the "love" sub-plots.

This book still works well today, especially considering it took place in 2004. Mars is as fascinating and mysterious as it was ten years ago and lays out a captivating landscape for the drama in this novel. After first reading this book, I thought it would make a wonderful movie. It's too bad that there are so many other horrible Mars associated movies (with none of the suspense and craftily created characters of Pike's work) that have sinced played out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Updating an old review
I reviewed this book back in July of 2002 using lots of cheesy descriptors and verbosity. Well, I still love the book as much as ever, although this time I'm not compelled to launch into any cliches.

I DO however want to expand more on what you might THINK you know about this book. Pike is well known as an author of teen horror, but this is not a young adult novel. I feel that Pike's established reputation as a teen horror writer actually could have hurt this book because it makes it less likely to be taken seriously by adult readers and the literary community in general. It is most definitely for a mature audience and can MORE than hold its own for content and quality against the novels of any other respected authors of adult fiction. I find myself shocked that this book was never "discovered" by the literary community because it is really quite brilliant. Like most of the reviewers I grew up reading Pike's YA fiction and was actually a little surprised by this book, which is a very mature and adult story. You probably want me to get to some point, so here it is: This is NOT a young adult novel so please do not disregard it just because of Pike's reputation as a teen horror author. Don't make the mistake of the general literary community and overlook this book based on your preconceived notions about Pike's work.

On to another point. I was reading the reviews, and I was overwhelmed by a common thread that repeated over and over. Snippets like "I've read this book x number of times"... "I'm on my second copy because I read my first one out" ... "this is my favorite book of all time"... "10 years later this is still the best book I've ever read"... What's my new point? I see very few books with reviews that are so repetitive and consistent in such a manner. Almost everyone who discovers this book finds it to be something really special and worth coming back to over and over. Maybe one lone reviewer could be nuts, but take a quick look over the reviews, and you'll discover that almost all of us are saying the same thing. So give it a shot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Continuation of the life of Alisa--a Vampire
This is the third book in the vampire series about Alisa. In this book, she attempts to keep her DNA from the hands of someone who would test it and use the results to gain immortality. In this, she runs into an old "friend" who makes the story more exciting. Another wonderful book to add to your collection. I highly suggest it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Book
I have recently read this book and I was amazed at how well written it was. It was exiting and I never wanted to put it down. The only thing I didn't like about it was the way Christopher Pike shows vampires. He really tears down the way most people think of them as. Other than that, this is an excellent book and I throughly reccomend it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Last Vampire Book
The first forty pages of this book(the first chapter) was more action packed than any book I've read. Like in his other books Pike goes into great depth, throws in romance, lots of violence, and some blow-em-up scenes. If you don't like books like that, this may not be a book for you, but if you like action in movies and/or this would be a great book for you(read the first two before hand). Something that Pike does in all of his Last Vampire books is vagely describe what has happened in the previous books. I don't like that because you should read them and know what's going on. Over all it was a great book them and I would hope anyone else would give it five stars.

Thank you

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Series
By far this is the best Last Vampire novel. The first 3 arefilled with much action and suspense, though they become a little morecalm and in depth in 4 and 5. This one centers itself in Las Vegas, where Alisa's partner Joel (a vampire as well) is captured and taken to a lab in the Nevada Desert where scientists try to break his DNA code and turn the world into vampires. As Alisa tries to halt their plans, she unearths a new vampiric skill.

A great read, an awesome plot line, and a very original way to present a Vampire story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read
This is an original vampire series, this is an original book in the original vampire series taking place mainly in Vegas introducing foe's anew. If you like Last Vampire Un and deux then you must read trois. Trust me, I as a devout Pike Fan am telling you that this is the book to read if you have sense enough to appreciate his unique style for writing. ... Read more

Someone, somewhere knew about tha tawful night when she and six other friends committed an unthinkable crime in the desolate California desert. And now that person was determined to make them pay for it.

One by one, the chain letter was coming to each of them ... demanding dangerous, impossible deeds... threatening violence if the demands were not met. No one out of the seven wanted to believe that this nightmare was really happening to them. Until the accidents started happening -- and the dying...

4-0 out of 5 stars Mystery, suspense, danger involving teens are in this book.
I would recommend the Chain Letter by Christopher Pike to other teenagers because it is about being in high school, relationships between friends and has a very suspenseful plot. Teenagers would understand this book and relate to the feelings and the activities that take place during school and after school hours. If you enjoy thrillers and murder mysteries this book would appeal to you because it has all that and more. It is a little bit confusing because as the story is told it skips back and forth from present to past. If you have ever gotten a chain letter you understand how it makes you think about if it is really true and what would happen if you break the chain and how your name was even picked for the chain letter. Most chain letters are for something good to happen to you but this chain letter requires the characters to do scary, hurtful, destructive and embarassing things. If you liked the movie "I Know What You Did Last Summer" you would definitely enjoy the Chain Letter. This is not suitable for young children because it is scary and has scenes that are not appropriate for young children. It is suitable for those mature young adults and adults who enjoy thrills, suspense and murder mysteries. The story takes place in a small town with a group of seven teenagers who are friends. They party together and are in the school play. One evening they witnessed or could have been responsible for the death of a man out in the middle of nowhere. The identity of the man is unknown and group decided not to report the incident to the police or tell anyone outside of the group. Somehow someone gets ahold of this information and uses it against them. A chain letter is started and it asks the group members to do strange things. The only people who are on the list to receive the letter are the people who were there the night of the murder. Everyone in the group is suspecting one another and questioning them on why they are doing this to them. The demands start off small, then get dangerous and sometimes impossible for the characters to do. Their very lives are in danger and by whom? The best aspects of the book are the demands that the seven characters have to acomplish in order to send the chain letter to the next person. Also the person that is sending the clues is very sneaky because he or she puts them in the classified section of the town newspaper. I like that the person that sends the clues makes it very public and relates each demand specifically to the person on the list. This makes it nearly impossible to guess who is behind the chain letter demands. I think the person who is sending the letter picked an interesting code name by signing "Caretaker" at the end of the letter and each clue. I don't like how the books skips from the present to the past in some parts. Also, I didn't like that they haven't told how the man died in the first half of the book! Overall, this was a good book.

4-0 out of 5 stars And we think we have it bad
Everyone knows what it is like to receive a Chain Letter. Both annoying and intriguing--no time to make and mail ten copies; I still wonder if they really work. Even worse is when you get a chain e-mail. Anyway, we should consider ourselves lucky. Friends receive a Chain Letter that tells them to perform deeds that are not characteristic of them. They think it is crazy, a tasteless joke. But their mindset is to do what they are told. Do not risk anything. Of course people will compare this to an awful book titled "I Know What You Did Last Summer". The ideas are similar, but "Chain Letter" is better--maybe because I read it first. "I Know What You Did Last Summer" was slow and boring. Plus I figured out who the bad guy was after three chapters. I read the last chapter and laughed at the predictability of it. "Chain Letter" kept me guessing, which I prefer. Ultimately, it is only a set up for the far superior "Chain Letter 2"--a minor debate among some Pike fans. (As far as I know, I'm the only fan waiting for #3.) "Chain Letter" is a good change of pace for Pike fans who need a change of pace from the horror. Sit back and enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars sad book
I liked this book, because its unexpected and has twists at each turn. Everything in the book is important to the plot which is something I like about it. Creepy too, its kind of like I know what you did Last Summer, but 10 times better.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Do Not Ignore This Letter... Or You Will Suffer..."
"Chain Letter" is somewhat similar to Lois Duncan's "I Know What You Did Last Summer," involving a hit and run, and Pike's two books: "Last Act" (relating to a high school play) and "Weekend" (similar group ending). Prior to receiving a threatening chain letter, all seven friends (Alison Parker, Fran Darey, Brenda Paxson, Kipp Coughlan, Tony Hunt, Neil Hurly, and Joan Zuchlensky) were involved in a hit and run. They buried the body of the anonymous man in the California desert, and a short time later, they began receiving instructions from someone ("the Caretaker") who knows about their past. And if they don't follow these orders--like desecrating the school mascot, purposely flunking a test, publicly embarrassing several teachers, streaking naked at school, and burning down the school--they could all end up dead.

Christopher Pike is, without a doubt, one of my favorite YA writers. I've been reading and re-reading his books for about 15 years now. Though his books are geared for teenagers, they're intelligent and complex enough to satisfy most adult suspense readers as well (speaking as one). The pace in "Chain Letter" isn't quite as smooth as some of his others, though, but it's still a pretty good teen thriller. Worth reading if you're a Pike fan, in addition to the sequel: "Chain Letter 2: The Ancient Evil."

5-0 out of 5 stars Horror Writer
It is amazing! If you havn't read any Christopher Pike Books, you should start with this one, it is more down to earth than most of his.
I have read it already and will probably read it again.

Book Description

David, a twenty-eight-year-old artist, is recovering from a bad breakup with the mysterious and beautiful Sienna when he discovers a woman's dead body half-buried on the beach near Lompoc, California.

To his surprise, David is interviewed not just by the local sheriff, but by FBI agent Krane, who declares that the woman was killed in a ritualistic manner. Soon the dead woman is identified as David's ex-girlfriend, and he becomes the prime suspect in her murder. But Sienna can't be dead; she keeps leaving messages on his answering machine. And no matter how badly their relationship ended, he couldn't have killed her. She was the love of his life.

In self-defense, David begins his own investigation, trying to find out who the dead woman really is and what's behind the satanic murder. He's both helped and hindered by his friends, especially Julie, whom he had a crush on in high school and who has suddenly reappeared in his life, and the Reverend Pomus, who tries to warn David of the reality of true evil.

David's search for Sienna and the truth about her disappearance take him from coastal California to New York City to Florida-and into the darkest night of his soul.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pike is at it Again......
This book was definitely one of the better Christopher Pike Novels, The Ending is a twist that the average reader would never suspect. And the characters will remind any bigtime Pike Reader of Christopher's earlier works such as "The Star Group" "Final Friends" and "Chain Letter". This is a must buy for anyone in the mood for a great mystery, this is no cheap thrill and it is not for the faint of hearts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pages turn themselves!
THE BLIND MIRROR is definately worth a read. It starts out a little bit slow, and the beginning is very similar to other Pike books (mainly his teen novels): boyhood friends meet up after so and so time has gone by, followed by a brief walkthrough of their lives together.

But after the slow start, where you're wondering where exactly the story is going; it suddenly gets very, very intriguing and will have you sucked in right up until the end of the book. This books also gave me the creeps. There is a sense of urgency, disorientation, confusion and fear that you can actually catch on to. The dialogue flows naturally, there is a good balance between words and thoughts while two characters are speaking to each other. Enough to stir up the atmosphere.

The author does an excellent job of connecting readers with his characters. This book is a very natural page turner and is a pretty easy read for a horror/ mystery sort of genre.

However, the only dissapointment had to be the ending. It spiraled down breathtakingly fast and had me thouroughly engaged, but it ends with an abrupt stop. It doesn't even provoke any thoughtful discussion on it. And you wonder, was the whole beat around the bush plot really necessary for it to end that way, which seemed inevitable whatever the lead character did about it.

I can't hate the book however disappointing the ending was. I still thought that THE BLIND MIRROR had an amazing way of engaging the reader. You really want to know what's going to happen, what everything is really all about. Pick it up, you'll love reading this book. Just not the ending.

3-0 out of 5 stars If You like Pike , you like Pike
My sister and I grew up reading Pike together so she made sure we both started and finished this one the same day as one another, talking about it the whole time, like we were back in Junior High with the Remember Me books. Now, however we are in our late twenties and both have gone onto to get English degrees and become writers ourselves, and we had the entire thing figured out by chapter 12.Don't get me wrong, we ravaged through it, obsessing over every detail, but I feel like I enjoyed it because reading Pike is like going home - you KNOW what you're going to get.I like that he handed me every answer I needed to figure it out based on the rest of his body of work - but if you've read every Pike AND you want new, mind-boggling, CRAZY plot twists you won't find them here. Its Spellbound meets Chain Letter meets Gimme a Kiss with a nod to at least 10 other Pike books. But that is why I love him. If you're a fan no reason to stop - he gives you classic Pike, but if you've never read Pike (and you're an adult) read Season of Passage.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Pike . . . yet it's not.
I've always been a huge Pike fan.My absolute favorite book from *any* author is "The Season of Passage."It's on the top of my list.So I've been waiting a long time for something new.

The books starts out promising but soon begins to read just like Pike's YA novels. The characters are described as being adult, but their dialogue and actions are very juvenile.

I was disappointed by the ending. It was like a B movie; the "bad guy" spelled everything out for the lead character instead of the lead character discovering things for himself.During the book he was "stumbling" on clues entirely by chance, it seemed, and it was all laid out a bit too neatly.

If you're a Pike fan I recommend this book because even if I didn't, a true Pike fan would read it anyway. But if you're just starting to get into Pike's books, make sure you read "The Season of Passage" before you go any farther!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Engaging
I bought this novel late Friday night and was unable to put it down until Saturday morning when I finally finished it. While "The Blind Mirror" is not Pike's finest, it is certainly a fantastic story. The story was pure Pike. Regardless of complaints that the speech was stilted and used correct grammar (i.e. cannot and do not instead of can't and don't). Those who have truly read Pike's books will know that the characters only use speech of that nature when something of significance is revealed. In past books it has been the fact that the characters were not human at all. I had been waiting for a Pike book for years. This was a release that I welcomed and was dying to purchase and I was not disappointed. The story was delightfully twisted with Pike's characteristic surprises. The characters (especially David) were very real and very much filled out. I got a sense of exactly who the characters were (as well as who they were supposed to be) when reading. I loved the ending. Pike is not know for the traditional and popular happy endings. And this is an ending that broke all the rules that most fiction novelists follow. I personally believe that this book was worth the price, no matter which edition you purchased. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing read for any Pike fans.
Ok, first of all, let me point out the very well known fact that Christopher Pike, as talented as he is, does not have that much respect from the critics, much like the Horn Book review of this novel. But that's because of a couple of reasons: First of all, you have to have patience with his books. What I mean by that is, I mean that in order for you to like it, you have to read the entire book of his. And, in the entire last vampire series, I think the entire series is one book, telling one story of the same character with a bunch of unique plot twists intertwining. It's a great book, and so is the rest of the series. Sita grows from a cold blooded creature to a character that You later learn to love if you read the rest of the series. The entire series is good, buy it, read it, enjoy it. you'll like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars It was the best book ever!
All of the Last Vampire series just knocked me off my seat. I loved Seymour, I loved Sita, Ray, and even Kalika in the next few books. I've read all of them about 4 or 5 times and then I bought the collectors edition because I know that these books will be worth a lot of money in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book.
This book is great. It's a nice sequel to #1, though it does become boring in some points.. There's small sub-stories that get told inside by the characters that dont really seem like they need to be there, but nonetheless, they add to the overall effectiveness of the plot.

I read this whole book last night. I just couldn't put it down! It was about a 3 1/2 hour read without too many breaks.. I found it took me 4 chapters to realize i had to go to the restroom and to actually get up to go.

The bad guy's mother is a bit off her rocker, being as old as she is.. Really sick minded, its no wonder that the boy turned out the way he was.

Anyway, it was a good book and i just couldnt put it down. I reccommend this read to anyone who is a fan of Christopher Pike. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new here
There was nothing really new in this book, basically reminded me of the previous book (other than her boy toy is a vampire). The evil demon vampire who created Sita is alive and kicking (bad pun) and now some new creepy psycho who found his body got his power and is turning people into vampires. What I find corny is a vampire who has walked the Earth for 5,000 years is getting totally owned by a vampire who has been a vampire for 5 days.

5-0 out of 5 stars EvErYoNe ReAd ThIs BoOk!!...
this book was the best ever written. christopher pike shows that sita isn't one of those all-american heroes that you see every day. shes not some superhero, but she is the protagonist; which lends a nice twist to the plot. she goes off, knowing that she might lose her life and willingly puts it on the line to save a race (humans) even though they mean nothing to her. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A MAJOR STANDING OVATION
Bravo! Bravo! This thrilling story is a sequel to Remember Me. Shari Cooper although dead is given a chance to return to the world of the living. She is brought back to the world and occupies the body of a depressed 18 year old girl. This book is as exciting as the first I highly reccomend it to all young adults

5-0 out of 5 stars remember me 2
I thought this book was great. At first I didnt understand it but by the second chapter I did. I think this is a great book to read if you often wonder about what it would be like to die and then have a second chance to live. I liked the way Sherrie could be both on earth as jean and in the after life with riki and peter. The book kept me in suspense. I recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense and mystery.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Original
Young adult horror. Continuation of Remember Me. Shari Cooper is still dead (haha). She was the victim of an attack in the first book, but now she's back again. She's given the chance to live life again without being born again. She accepts and is put into the body of a pregnant teen living in poverty, Jean Rodrigues -- who wants to die.

After an accident, Jean wakes up in the hospital a changed person, but she starts having weird flashbacks -- I guess they could be called. She starts remembering things that she's never remembered ever hearing or seeing, etc.

Again, this is kind of cliched and may seem a little cheesy, but it is a good read, in my opinion. This is my favorite book in the trilogy (even though I haven't read the third one). There isn't as much action as in the first one. I think this one gives the message of hope while focusing on some of the things Shari is going through in the afterlife.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Remember Me Series...I WISH I COULD FORGET!!
How stereotypical can we get? The poor inner-city girl, Jean Rodrigues, who doesn't want to go on living is saved! She doesn't really have to! Shari Cooper, member of the far superior arian race has come to her rescue! She will live for her and create for her the meaningful life that she would never have achieved on her own! Thank you Christopher Pike for reinforcing the stereotypes of inner-city, weed smoking, good for nothing Hispanics!

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome

Book Description

HE MAY HAVE PHOTOGRAPHED A MURDER.

Herb just wanted to photograph the cheerleaders in the school showers. He planted his camera high in the corner where no one could see it, and rigged it to a special homemade timer. He did that Thursday night, and he hoped that by Friday night he would have an exciting roll of film to develop.

But a girl dies Friday afternoon. On the surface it appears to be nothing more than a tragic car accident. But when Herb finally does collect his roll of film, he develops a picture that shows a shadowy figure sneaking up on the girl who has died -- sneaking up on her with a baseball bat.

It makes Herb wonder if the girl was dead long before the car accident.

But unfortunately for Herb, he doesn't wonder if the murderer knows he took the picture. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Just say no to drugs and women
Let me start by saying that I read this book when I was in Jr. high, and yet, so many years later, I still consider it to be one of the best horror books for adolescents, though perhaps that is not saying much. For its genre, I would give it a five, but compared with a million other books, it deserves only a three and a half. It is better than many adult books, sadly.

SPOILERS

Die Softly is about Herb, a senior high school student who is in love with Alexa Close. He has a best friend Theo, who likes to shoot at coke cans which perhaps he pretends are a particular classmate he hates, a coke addict named Lisa, Alexa's best friend. Herb and Theo also have another friend named Samantha (Sammie) Smith, who has an intense dislike for the cheerleaders at their highschool, particularly Alexa and Lisa, and advises Herb to humiliate them by taking pictures of the cheerleaders while in the shower. Herb happens to be an aspiring photographer.
He feels guilty at being a peeping Tom, yet Herb's curiosity takes over.
The day after Herb sets up his camera in the shower room, there is a horrible car accident involving Lisa. It appears that, while being high on coke, she careened off a cliff, and went up in flames. This accident is eerily like an accident involving Theo's older brother Roger, six monthes ago, involving the same cliff and the same drug. Theo always felt that his brother's "accident" was Lisa's fault because she was the one addicted to cocaine and was not exactly the best influence on anyone. By the way, Alexa and Lisa are referred to as the "sugar sisters". Now Lisa has died in exactly the same way.
When Herb gets the pictures in his camera developed, he learns something else. Maybe Lisa really didn't get into an accident. Maybe she was killed in the showers and then her murderer placed her in her car and shoved her car off the cliff in order to cover up the crime.
Christopher Pike writes well for teenagers, as long as they don't mind the sick plots, but I find his stories to be very much like various movies and television shows. For books, they are, for the most part, at a lower level, but the plots are actually pretty good. And he does have some great dialogue and interesting characters.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eerily Like the Dramas On Television Every Day
I read this book when I was in ninth grade. I'm still impressed with the material, though perhaps the writing is not that great. I thought the characters were wonderful, full of real human emotions. The story is written in third-person but it is from the point of view of a male, unlike many of Christopher Pike's other books, who is somewhat of a flawed hero who does not come to a happy end by the conclusion. It is full of tragic characters, all of whom are connected in a bizarre, yet somewhat realistic situation. I was particularly impressed with all the ways in which the story comes together by the end, as if all the loose ends are being tied together. And the main character, Herb, realizes a valuable lesson. In life, people are not always as they seem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
This book is basically about this cheerleader Alexa Close amd a boy named Herb who is iterested in photography. He takes pictures of a murder and thats where it all begins, a great book but not for imatture readers or for kids it's got to much death and drugs in it. But it's still agreat book!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Well I personally loved DIE SOFTLY. It is about a boy named Herb who is the school photographer after his BFF, Sammie, is kicked because the pictures she took stunk. She gives him the idea of rigging a camera in the girls' locker room showers to catch so nude pictures of the cheerleaders' and hand them out to everyone. Herb takes it and get the pictures. When he gets the roll and developes it, the cheerleader in them is murdered in one of the pictures. It looks as if the love of his life, Alexa, has killed Lisa, her best friend. I appears as if earlier Lisa is killed in a car crash, but only Alexa knows the truth. She claims to Herb that she is innocent and didn't kill her best friend while she tries to seduce Herb. What really happened??? Read to find out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Die softly is one of a kind!!
Now I read this book a year ago, and I can still remember the storyline. It is indeed one of a kind !But don't let the cover put you off. It was only because of the blurb that I decided to read it. It's based about a young lad called Herby, who's not popular, but he's got a talent, he can capture people's real beauty on camera. Sadly the fool decides to take pictures of the cheerleaders in the schools showers.BUT INSTEAD he gets something else. I'll leave it at that. I think that it's a touching story, the ending broke my heart! But it came down to reality and sometimes things don't always turn out the way you want it to. Great book if your looking for horror.I believe they should turn this book into a movie,it's great. ... Read more

The next day, when Angela visits Mary at the jail, she asks why she did it. Mary responds, "Because they were no longer human." Angela thinks she's crazy. At first.

Until she probes deeper into Mary's claims and discovers a horror so unimaginable that she thinks she is going crazy. She even gets to the point where she wonders if she should have let Mary keep on killing. While there was still time to stop the thing from spreading. The very old thing. The hungry thing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of my two favorite books in the whole world.
This book was one of the first I ever read by him and I loved it. My two favorite books in the whole world are by Christopher Pike. They are "Monster" and "The Season of Passage." Those two books scared me so bad but were so good I just loved them. There are even a few similarities between them: horrible alien monsters from another world try to destroy the Earth and take it over. I read almost all of his books and am very familiar with his work and style. He is one of my favorite authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS IN CREATION!!!
Besides The Last Vampire(which was also excellent),Monster was the first Pike book I ever read just this past summer. I LOVED it. Filled with fun and horror. If you are thinking about buying this book I promise you,you won't be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Christopher Pike is awesome
I love his young adult books, they are well thought out and thought provoking. He tells a simple conchise story and ties up all of the loose ends perfectly. His female characters also kick ass,(yes he can actually convincingly write women). He doesn't get as mired in the plot as he does with his adult books, when is actually a terrible shame. Most of his stories are completely original, mini masterpieces that hide behind the young adult genre. I really think he deserves to be a lot more famous than he is.
This book is very well written. It includes all the good ingredients of a classic horror novel, freaky metamorphosis included. Sometimes, it borders on downright horrifying. The main characters, as they struggle with the basic aspects of humanity and their new hunger are realistically done. This book does hint at evil, but it also offers a motive.
This book is also sassy and proud and doesn't take itself overly seriously. At times, it is amusing in a sickening sort of way. One of the characters buys four pounds of meat at the supermarket and eats half of it raw in the car.
A couple other darkly amusing quotes are "He caught me trying to eat my dog, so what?" "Come on, you have to eat people, all the cool people are doing it".
It all starts when Angela's best friend, Mary bursts into a party and shoots the head cheerleader and one of the football players. Christopher Pike announces this happens in the course of about 6 seconds, so nobody has a chance to react. When she turns to shoot her boyfriend, Angela and a couple other people try to stop her and everyone else just runs out of the house.
Justice is finally extracted, at a price. The innocent get trampled and demolished. This book is not fair, and carries some of the most brutal killing scenes I have ever seen in any of his books. The pre-apocalyptic one was especially horrible, but this makes it stand out on it's own even more. It's a good story, it keeps you reading. I found the ending incredible, in a sad and beautiful kind of way.

1-0 out of 5 stars not pikes best
I've always liked Christopher Pikes book. They were entertaining, and always had me gripped wanting more. So when I read the blurb for Monster , it sounded good. So i begin reading , and it gets of to a bad start. This girl, Mary Blanc comes in with a shotgun. Shoots a football player in the guts, then shoots a cheerleader straight in the face. And while this is going on nobody moves. I mean this mentally unbalanced teenaged girl comes in and shoots two people. What should you do :
Option A :- stand and stare

OR

Option B: Run screaming out the house like a lunatic.
Personally I'd choose option B but the kids in the book decide to stay and watch .Don't get me wrong the plot of the book isn't bad. It's just not written well. There is to much sexual detail . It bugs me that Angela decides to get together with Mary's boyfriend.Ok I know everyone thinks that Mary has snapped but that doesn't give Angela that right. To go off with him.In the end everyone dies , even Kevin dies .Angela ,Mary and Kevin were good fiends. I was depending on him to save the day. Angela turns into the alien vampire fully transformed. The only thing stopping her from killing and devouring humans is the chain, the old indian man gave her. I do not recommend this book it is a waste of your time . I feel really bad saying that because I really like christopher Pike books.
I'd recommend Witch, Die softly and chain letter they're excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scarifying story!
This story is not relaxing at all. Angela, the main character, thinks her friend Mary is crazy -- at first. Mary has gone nuts, apparently, and done some really violent, awful things. Mary even thinks that some of the kids in school are turning into monsters. But the more Angela learns, the more she thinks that her town is being taken over by extraterrestrial vampires. People are being transformed into vampires because of an ancient virus from outer space. The virus has been hidden deep beneath a lake, in a crater, which was formed when a small asteroid struck the Earth thousands of years ago. Suddenly, it seems like the virus has gotten into the water, and people are drinking it! Worst of all... Angela herself may be turning into a space vampire. Aaaahhhh!

This story has two main ingredients. Vampires, and asteroids hitting the earth. If you would like to read a good, nonfiction book that's all about the legend of vampires, I recommend that you read "In Search of Dracula: The History of Dracula and Vampires," by Raymond T. McNally, and Radu R. Florescu. That's a really neat book, and it will give you a chance to learn some real history, too. If you're scared of asteroids, (which makes a lot more sense than being scared of vampires!!!) I think you might like to read "Impact!: The Threat of Comets and Asteroids," by a real live astronomer named Gerrit Verschuur.

Anyway, this is a pretty spooky book. If you like scary stories, but don't read very much, or if you know someone who's just getting started reading on their own, I think this book would be perfect. Two thumbs up! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rereading this after about 13 years...
I think I read this for the first time when I was about 14, and I went back & reread it when I was moving books to my new house last year, and I was amazed by how suspenseful it still is (and how much knowing how the Beatles' song BLACKBIRD goes improves my reading of certain scenes). I don't know why they don't turn this into a movie - maybe it's the Happy Ending component, maybe it's the fact that there's a lot of drinking in the book by high school seniors (note: back in the mid-80's, when this book was written, the drinking age was 18), but this is a really great tale about families and good friends - there are scary parts, too, but the goodness of some of the characters is such a positive.

5-0 out of 5 stars This was amazing!
I read this a rather long time a go to now be reviewing it, but I remember it well. Now, I think this was amazing because of the characterization. Pike wrote a book with the most amazing cast. He has such a way of writing abou very real character who talk like teens and about things teens talk about. This was just so amazing, and it was so creative. The story was so well done and had many twists and turns. Christopher Pike has such a great talent. I don't like all the ghosts and spirits he usually writes about, and this one didn't have any of those, so it showa that he has multiples types of writing which is very impressive.

This story is very entertaining and suspenseful. A group of teenagers go to a party in Mexico at their friend's mansion. They think it's a time for beer, tan lines, and an overall good time. But somebody in they're little get-together is a traitor, and soon this enjoyable vacation becomes scary beyond imaginable. On saturday, they worked on their tans...By Sunday, they were working on keeping alive.
