4-0 out of 5 stars Good but could be better
I like VERSUS BOOKS guides but this one wasn't as good as there other guides were. This guide doesn't have a Pokedex, and isn't very helpful when it comes to knowing a lot about the Pokemon. It doesn't tell you all the Pokemom either. It tells you where to find them but it won't tell you when they evolve or when they learn certain attacks. It really helps you get through the game though. It tells you data for just even those Normal Trainers and keeps you going and is very organized. Not as good as there other guides. There Profiles for Pokemon are really helpful (if you like to hear what other people think) but you should just go by your own judgement. They're also missing an items list. This doesn't matter much at all because the explanation of items is right there. I would recomend this guide as I would all of VERSUS BOOKS guides. But if your looking for a Pokedex then go on the net.

4-0 out of 5 stars Versus Books Comes Through Again!
As I said in the Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time review, Versus Books do their guides in such detail, it puts other guides to shame, and their Gold and Silver Adventure Guide is no exception.

The book follows the same simplistic and efficient format of the Red/Blue/Yellow guide (minus the nifty little "Catch [In so-and-so]" bubbles). Once again, the roster of every trainer in the game is available, including amount of money they hold and if you can exchange phone numbers with them (a new feature in Gold/Silver that Versus Books completely covers). The excact appearance ratio of all Pokémon is still there; covering which Pokémon appear in which area, in which versions, and at what time a day. And, of course, there's that patented Versus Books free poster, heh.

One thing to note, although the author of the book is listed as "Staff Of Versus Books" it is clear to fans of any of his past works, that renowned author Casey Loe had a major hand in the creation of this. You'll find his wit and sarcasm abundant in this guide, moreso even than in the Red/Blue/Yellow guide. This guide actually more closely resembles his work on the Versus Books Final Fantasy VII and Ocarina Of Time guides, both of which are astounding.

Perhaps my only gripe with this book is that it is only the "Adventure Guide" and not the "Perfect Guide." The introduction refers to it as the "Upcoming Gold and Silver Perfect guide" but the wait may force you to buy this version. Really, there are few differences between the two. I expect the Perfect guide will include the comprehensive "Pokédex" from the Red/Blue/Yellow Perfect guide, but other than that, I can't find anything this book is truly lacking. However, if the Perfect guide is out, by all means, buy that.

That basically wraps up my long-winded review. I hope I've encouraged you all to buy this and not some sleazy Prima or Brady Games guide (they're both affiliated with Satan). Casey Loe and Versus Books have come through again, creating the best guide possible... Until the Perfect Guide rolls around.

P.S. Casey Loe, if you end up writing comments for this guide, as you did for Ocarina Of Time, and see this review, e-mail me (Weirdness1@aol.com). I have fan-mail that needs sending.

5-0 out of 5 stars Professional and Precise
In contrast to the Prima books, the Versus guide certainly lives up to the 'perfect' title. Whereas the Prima guide is riddled with mistakes and wrong information, the Versus guide has a near perfect presentation of text and maps.

A huge pokédex, all true and to the point, with clear, colourful maps with all rosters [just about :)]and no blur or fuzz. It even highlights cheats and glitchs with its rapier wit and sensible humour, I quote: 'Yeh, go stab yourself with a nail, Haunter (this is curse), while I switch pokémon to get around it!' This is underneath a caption, all in pixel-perfect graphics.

Overall, I cannot find a fault, although they can't be 100% right, all the time, with minor errors like forgetting to mention a PP UP in the middle of a field. Apart from that, this is the best guide on the market that I've seen!

+ Maps
+ Rosters
+ Items
+ Cheats/Glitches
+ Gym Leader Guides
+ Q&A section
+ Huge Pokédex with Best Of Type sections
+ Much more! (TM guide, HM guide, diary of events etc.)

- A few minor faults
- Some inconsistency with the move descriptions.

So go get it!

1-0 out of 5 stars This is a very disappointing book.
I bought this book at the same time I bought the Gold/Silver versions. I was disappointed when I started looking at the book. This is becuase this book dosen't have a list of the Pokemon and where you find them like the other books! If there were an index with Pokemon #1-251, then it would be much easier. Not only that, but through the whole book there are always certain Pokemon that are marked with "???" which is really annoying and will get in your way guaranteed, especially when your looking for Pokemon in the gameboy. I went to another book and they had a list of all 251 Pokemon (and pictures) and now I have 245 out of the 251 Pokemon.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's good, but it can be better!
It's a very good book, especially when you want to figure out everything on your own. This book suits for the basics.
You can explore everything abd this book don't spoils not to much.
However, It can be better, like a gamemap (then I mean the views in the Game it self but then all maps and not parts) and a Pokédex for example. Still good, though ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very funny!
This comic is about a girl called Amber who wants to be a Pokemon Master. Most of the time, Amber is out catching all the Pokemon she can, but today Amber and her friends decide to take a day off from Pokemon catching at the beach. This book had some really funny parts, such as this one: Amber shows up on the beach wearing a bikini, but the boy that she's got a crush on doesn't seem to notice.Amber's Pikachu comes up to Amber's crush and says something to him, and he says, "Yes, I noticed what she's wearing!"For some strange reason Amber's crush can understand Pokemon language, but I don't know why.The part of the comic that I thought was hysterical was this part: Amber dives underwater after a Horsea, and when she has trouble breathing, the Horsea puts something in her mouth that lets her breathe. Now that she can breathe and talk underwater Amber gives the Horsea a BIG hug and says, "Thank you!!I can breathe!I can breathe!!"Unfortunately, Amber was hugging the Horsea too tight, and she was making it hard for him(Horsea has a crush on a mermaid, so I'm sure Horsea's a boy)to breathe, and he says, "I can't."I thought that was very funny! Also, the other comics are funny, too.For example, when Jigglypuff was making a Christmas present to give to someone at a big Christmas party, she decided to give someone a pressed flower.Jigglypuff gently put a flower in between the pages of a book, then slammed the book shut!I thought that was very funny, too! However, there are somethings about the books that even I don't like.Mainly, Amber and her crush.I don't really like Amber because I think she's kind of annoying. Not only that, she's really hyper.(My aunt's Daschund puppy has less energy than Amber!)And the reason why I don't like Amber's crush is that he's kind of headstrong.I mean, when Amber got in trouble with a Tangela,(a Pokemon that's completely covered in blue vines) Amber's crush didn't have a fire Pokemon, so he decided to cut the vines off of Tangela!(Luckily, Amber stopped him)I think this was totally uncalled for.I mean, Tangela has feeling in it's vines, which means that if it got it's vines cut off, it would be the same as cutting off one of its fingers or something like that!Aside from the annoying characters this book is really funny, and I think a lot of people would enjoy reading it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great pokemon comic
This is a very good comic book. I love the pictures. They are drawn very well and nicely. I think the story is a little bit weird. The story isabout Maron seeing a horsea and helping it. Maron dives deep into theocean. After quite a while, she sees a mermaid with a crown. She startsworrying, because seeing a mermaid was really strange. Maron's boyfriend,Almond was still on the beach with her pikachu. They waited and waited, butMaron didn't come back up. You will have to read the comic to find out whathappens next, because I really encourage everybody to buy this if they area pokemon fan or a japanese manga fan. It would be a great gift forchildren. I would recommend this book to girls more, because it's aboutfunny stuff and sometimes about friendship.

Overall, This is a greatbook but I didn't give it five stars, because the book does not have asgood a storyline as I expected.

I really think this book is at a veryreasonable price. I really encourage pokemon fans to buy this book.

Havea fun time reading this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Poor little Chikorita............Shame on you,PIKACHU!!!!!
I already have the book anyway. As for you people without the book, it's about when Ash, Misty, Brock, Pikachu, and Togepi meet a beginner trainer named Casey who started out with an ADORABLE Chikorita. When Mr. "Show-Off-Big-Mouth" Ash insults Casey's favorite baseball team, she challenges him to a pokemon battle. She loses easily. Thinking she betrayed the Electabuzz baseball team, she runs away with tears in her eyes. Casey then bumps into 'losers' Team Rocket. The trio convinces Casey that Ash cheated during the battle. Furious, Casey takes off to find him. Will Team Rocket finally sucseed in catching Pikachu AND Chikorita?

Then, Ash encounters a wild Chikorita. Wanting to add it to his team, he battles it. Soon Ash realizes the Chikorita is stubborn. "No problem" he says. But then Chikorita gets wounded really badly. Too worried to capture the little pokemon, Ash and Co. take poor Chikorita to the P.C. Nurse Joy assures them it will be fine. T.R. then steals the "rare" grass pokemon. Ash and Pikachu chase after them up a mountain. Chikorita reluctuntly runs off. Will Chikorita ever gain Ash's trust?

Finally, a few days later, Ash gets his chance to try out his new Chikorita. Battling a speedy Ratticate, Chikorita gets tired. Ash decides to use his Pikachu; but Chikorita hears him. So, it decides to ruin the battle for Pikachu. But it ruins the battle for Ash too. Ash scolds his Chikorita and hurts it's feelings without realizing it. Then, in the P.C., Chikorita refuses to talk to Ash, to Pikachu, or to anyone else! Nurse Joy then comes over and has a session with Ash and Chikorita. She then explains Chikorita is JEALOUS of Pikachu!! That night Chikorita runs away from Ash. Pikachu goes after it. T.R. finds out and go after them. Will Chikorita ever overcome it's jealousy?
Chikorita is my favorite pokemon (which explains the title). I think it was DUMB when Ash had to yell at a poor lil' innocent pokemon for nothin'. So that explains the 4 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chika
This is a realy good book.
It is one that you should have in your collection.
It is the coolest.
Chickorita is the cutest in the book.

I rate it 10000000000000000000000000 out of 10.

4-0 out of 5 stars worth reading
I rate this book 4 stars because it tells good things to do and bad things to do. The good things to do are caring for others, giving respect, becoming friends, protecting others, helping others, teamwork, realizing how to help. The bad things to do are having jealousy, there are a few insults, framing people, stealing things, gives physical risks, and it shows disappointment in the book. The book is sort of exciting because there are many battles, there is a pokemon battle for the best baseball team, it tells how Ash saves and cares for Chicorica, and it tells how Chicorita runs away. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Team Rocket aren't evil...!
They are just robbers just like those on our streets today, trying to make a bit of money. Yet these people aren't branded evil!If I were them, I would just travel to a place where they know Pokemon are rare and just normally capture one.Secondly, they should evolve their Meowth into Persian!

It's a nice book which gives insight into the Team, trying to shake off the stereotypical image of them and the biased image painted by Ash and co. Yeah, he is a brat, but if he wants T.R. to leave him alone, why can't he just catch a wild Pikachu to give them?

5-0 out of 5 stars Different
I am not a Team Rocket fan but I find thier point of view rather interesting. This is a good bookbecause for once you get there point of view but if all the books had team rocketspoint of view this would not be 5 star material. It's 5 star material because it's different, not just the same old thing. The story itself is not that good, but it's still goodenough for a score of 50 out of 10. 49 of those points were for being different. 1 was for the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Team Rocket fan this is for you!
As a Team Rocket fan I am mostly satisfied of the fact that there is only a little bit of "the annoying little brat" everyone knows as Ash.However this book at times sort of humiliates Team Rocket.Despite that fact this is a huge improvement to Team Rocket Blasts Off.This is a cute book which tells a story about how even though Team Rocket always fails but they succed with thier frendship.I won't give away the whole story, but if you want to hear the rest of it you have to read the book!I hope in the next episode or in the future Team Rocket will succed in catching Pikachu.

4-0 out of 5 stars A big improvement over the previous Rocket-centric book
As an avid Team Rocket fan, I just had to read this book, which is a novelization of "Ignorance is Blissey" (one of my all-time favorite Pokemon episodes).I was seriously disappointed by Ms. West's portrayal of Team Rocket in her previous Rocket-centric story, but this book is a drastic improvement over "Team Rocket Blasts Off!"Even though Ms. West is still rather unfair to Team Rocket in this new book, and there are a few out of character moments, it still turned out to be a great story, showing that Jessie, James, and Meowth truly care about each other and that they'd do anything to help a friend in need. The only real criticism I have is that the events of the story have absolutely no correlation to the events on the show -- everything is chronologically out of order, and the story totally overlooks TR's role in the pre-"Ignorance is Blissey" episodes of the Johto Journeys.Nevertheless, the book's message about success and friendship is an excellent one, which far outshines the glaring canonical inconsistencies. The book also contains some seriously gorgeous illustrations of Team Rocket. On the whole, this is a good book, and I recommend it for all Team Rocket fans and Pokemon fans in general. ^_^ ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A well-drawn and original Pokemon manga
This next installment in Toshihiro Ono's shonen(boys) Pokemon manga series is called 'Pikachu Shocks Back'. It's aimed more at older kids and teenagers, and the artwork is drawn very well. There are four stories here:
(1)The Human Race and the Pokemon Race: Ash decides to travel along with Brock, and he meets up with Misty(again) and her three beautiful sisters at the Fuschia Festival. After causing a Tauros to get angry, Misty and Ash end up being saved by a girl named Lara, who's arm is broken thanks to an accident she had while riding her Ponyta. Ash decides to help her out by racing in the Free-For-All with her Ponyta. Unfortunately for Ash, a racer that likes to cheat has other plans for the boy with the red cap.
(2)To Evolve or not to Evolve That is the Question: Misty joins up with Ash and Brock as they head to Stone Town, the place where Evolution Stones cmoe from. Misty meets up with a timid boy named Mikey, and finds out he's apart of some underground society that likes to evolve their Pokemon. The problem is, Mikey doesn't want to evolve his Eevee. And that doesn't exactly make his three brothers happy with him. Misty also begins to question whether she has a 'weakness for younger men'.
(3)Pikachu's Excellent Adventure: Pikachu gets seperated from Ash, and tries to find his way back to his trainer. The electric mouse joins up with Squirtle and some other Pokemon on a journey to find a Poke-Paradise that's supposedly guarded by some godess. On their travels, they meet up with a trio of shady fellows that call themselves 'Team Rocket'.
(4)You Gotta Have Friends: Ash begins to wonder if Pikachu is drifting away from him as he stumbles upon a Pikachu colony.

The artwork is way more realistic than the art in the other Pokemon mangas, and I thought it was kinda cool. Even though this series was aimed at teenagers, Viz decided to edit alot of the scenes to make it appropriate for the kiddies, making the women and the girls less 'endowed', and they now wear FAR more clothes than they originally did. This was good and bad at the same time, because they sorta went overboard with the editing; Misty and some of the other girls are like walls now, if you know what I mean! But still, this is a great book if you're a Pokemon fan, or a shonen manga fan. It's got lots of action, funny and likable characters, and some great artwork.

5-0 out of 5 stars this one by far would be my favourite!
the comic at the very beginning was the cutest and the first story, the human race and the pokemon race. looked amazing althou ponyta looked more stronger and less graceful. the second story, to evolve or not to evolve (i'm sure you all know what this is about) has the best pictures and is soooo cute. Pikachus adventure, is a new story that is wonderful and a nice touch. the the last one you gotta have friends... was touching and confirmed pikachu is a guy!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pokemon comics!
This book was great.I really enjoyed it.It has some different pokemon adventures in it, like the one about mikey and his eevee. That one was very funny. I have read this book alot of times and I still do.What it means by "graphic novel" is that it is just like a comic book, so that I could read it at school and the teachers didn't know.Hehehe :).But anyway, if you liked the pokemon T.V. series,(I think this is a lot better ), you should definatly consider this.I'm still going back and reading it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pikachu Shocks Back-A great Comic
You have to try this awesome comic! If you've seen the episodes, and you son't want to read them all over again, donn't worry, it has humor, action, and things that weren't shown in the show.Every comic is extra long and you get 4 for a real low price! You don't even have to like pokémon, and the pictures are creative and wonderful. And I wouldn't put it past Brock to not to say anything funny in the story. This Pokémon Comic Colection is a must-buy!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Shockingly Good Book

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FUN!
This book it's great fun for all ages!

5-0 out of 5 stars invaluable for the purpose for which I used it
I bought this book in its Korean translation, during the height of the Pocket Monster craze. I then read this book to the class in my own English translation, I was thus spared all the inane "pika's" and "booboo's" which you see mentioned in the other reviews. This gave the class practice in the verbs "goes outside," "runs," "eats dinner," "sleeps." The students enjoyed the Pikachu character so much that they forgot that English class was supposed to be a drudgery.

I had only one problem: I bought one copy, it got stolen, I bought a second copy, it got stolen, and the store was out of stock when I tried to buy a third copy. That's why I'm ordering from Amazon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Baby-talk in a baby book
I hate Pikachu, so this is a good product for me to spread my hatred of the little yellow rat to all.

"Pikachu goes out-pika-side..." ...nani! What in the world...? My god, such bad, bad grammer!

"Pikachu pika-runs". Pika-runs? How do you do that? I guess you have to be a pudgy yellow ball of mangy fuzz to do that...

This book is strictly for the tots. The under-three crowd would probably have a better understanding of this book than even the most revered Harvard graduate.

The "I'm Not Pikachu!" book is insanely hilarious, and one of my favourites since even the main character obviously can't stand the rat.

But this book? This pile of Pika that is dared to even be called a book? Buy it for the infants. They'll probably love it. (Mainly since almost all the inafants I've known know how to say "Pikachu" and they say it VERY well... *shudder*)

But if you're an older fan, don't bother. It's too idiotic. -_-

5-0 out of 5 stars Certainly just for babies
This book was cute, but it is something that was certainly intended only for toddlers. The book has no educational value, like most of the other Pokemon Tales books. Using words like "boo-boo" and other childish themes, this book would be great for a little toddler who's just starting to like the Pokemon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Basic
This is a very basic baby book that takes Pikachu throughout his day. Diaglog is "Pikachu goes out Pika-side. Pikachu Pika-runs..." It could be fun for preschoolers with older siblings who are interested in Pokemon. ... Read more

This guide really is deserving of Perfect Guide. But if your looking for a thinner guie like say Prima (Also recommended) is a good guide as well.

The guide explains just about everything you need to know about the game. This tells you about the difference between Gold and Silver and Crystal. The walkthrough is very organized and not so many errors are in the guide. The walkthrogh also explains how often Pokemon appear on routes, and tells what pokemon each trainer in each area has. I STILL Say you shouldn't trust what they say about the Pokemon, experiment. Also the guide as a sense of humor as well (good ol' Casey Loe).

Now are you ready for the best part? The Pokedex is the most detailed Pokedex of all time! Better then their Pokemon Gold&Silver guide and the Pokemon Yellow guide! However, the pokedex is like 160 pages long! Thats more than half the guide! So the only negative was I was hoping that they could at least have an Index in the back of the book or something. Also unlike previous guides they actually have an items list!!! That's great.

Overall, I think that for a Pokemon Guide its a bit thick but for effort the guide gets an A

Overall:
Positive
+Beautiful Pokedex
+The best walkthrough in the history of Strategy Guides
+Good sense of humor
+Crytal Clear Screenshots
+Good Tables

Negative
-Guide is a little thick for a Pokemon guide
-An Index needs to be with Pokedex

Other than that this is probbly the best Pokemon guide ever made, better get it before VERSUSB BOOKS sells out!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Crystal Guide
Okay, it has a full walkthrough, a Pokedex, Breeding Guide, a "Itemdex" and "Movedex." What more could you ask for? It helped me immensely and taught me secrets I wouldn't have found out in a million years. Versus Books does a MUCH better job than Nintendo, who didn't even bother to tell you what Pokemon the Gym leaders have. All in all, if who have a Crystal game or are planning to buy one, get this too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
Compared to the "Official" pokemon player's guide, this guide has plenty more unveiled secrets than your average guide. I found it to be very informative. I must admit that I found a few errors, but compared to all the cool tips and hints you get, it's not that big of a deal. I love how there's an introduction for each pokemon, instead of just plain old stats. Having this guide makes playing the game alot more fun, and that's what guides are all about. Well, besides guiding. Hehe, you get my point.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pok'emon Crystal
The Pok'emon Crystal game for Gameboy Advance is kind of better than Pok'emon Gold and Silver, because you can get Lapras in it but you can't get Lapras in Gold or Silver, Lapras is at Lv.20 it attacks are Mist , Body Slam , Growl , some thing some thing
any way Sucine is the the Rarest Monster in the game because if it is on the cover then it is. When you start the game you can choose a boy or a girl, im a boy but in the game I started with a girl because Snubble will be easier to find in the morning and the girl name was Rei.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide !!!!!
This is a highly helpful and very good guide to the Pokemon Crystal game. It inculdes : An accurate pokedex , detailed info from page to page about the game , Comical and critical info about some of the Pokemon you might encounter , great details on the trainers and Gym leaders you meet , and more! This guide is a complete inside look on the game from helpful items to mysterious new Pokemon and trainers. If your gonna buy the game , buy this guide as well and ENJOY!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Review by Ashley Cimino California, San Diego
I rate this book 4 stars because, in the end they cut the exiting bit short so you have to get the next comic, which I rate 5 stars. well first Red gets an invatation of challenge from BRUNO ( member of the Elite 4) and doesn't come back. Then 1 month later at Professor Oaks Lab Pika, (Red's Pikachu) comes back Very very very hurt and cut and bruised( I'm suprised he didn't faint) and then Yellow, comes on his Doduo, and barges in Professor Oaks Lab, and then they battle....WhatI find strange about this comic is that Yellow has some power of healing Pokemon and Mind Reading them. I hope you found this helpfull!!!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars no good book

5-0 out of 5 stars This book was fantastic.
This book was fantastic. It had really great color photos of the game, and the tips were excellent. This book really helped me out with the game. Overall, this book was great.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lots of mistakes, and boring
I was disappointed with this book. It had several factual mistakes, and when I buy a hint book, I expect it to be more accurate. Don't waste your money; guides I have seen on the Web are better. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars pokemon the johto journeys tough enough
I think this was a good book because of the Pokemon and they caught many other Pokemon. The characters in this book are in a magical land called Johto. The characters are Ash,Misty and Brock.
A boy and his friend have adventures. The boy's name is Ash and his friends' names are Misty and Brock. My favorite character is Ash because he has some cool Pokemon powers. There are battles for badges. In these battles the characters battle gym leaders.
I would recommend this book to my friends ages 10-12 because this is a fantastic book. I would recommend this book to friends who like adventure books.

4-0 out of 5 stars all fired up 1
I rate this book 4 stars because it is disappointing, strange, and shows things that are bad examples. The book is disappointing because Ash and his Charizard lose a match and Charizard is left to stay at the Charicfic Valley for training The book is strange because a man dresses up like the pokemon Gligar, and calls himself GligarMan, but he saves Togepi. The book gives bad examples like stealing things, insulting people, and building gaint robots that steal things. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great comic and a wonderful ending
This is the fourth book in the series of Pokemon Graphic Novels, based on the newer episodes of the TV cartoon. Ash is competing in the Orange League, and eventually challenges the Supreme Gym Leader! Can Ash defeat him?

I`m pleased to say this comic is just as good as the other three. The artwork is good, and the story and dialogue are amusing with some funny jokes. There are six chapters here instead of four.

This is a good ending to the series (though its sad to see it go) and it could hold clues as to how the TV show might be wrapped up. If you believe in Jessie and James` love, you will like one of the pictures near the end... There are also some cute scenes featuring Ash and Misty.

At the front of the comic, there are pictures and a mini comic strip drawn by Toshihiro Ono, which are funny.

I really enjoyed reading this comic. Its nice to see the story of Pokemon in a different way, and it will appeal to Pokemon and comic book fans!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BESTEST ENGLISH POKEMON THING IN EXISTANCE!!
I would like to recommend the entire manga series by Toshihiro Ono to *ANY* older Pokemon fan. It seems to be more mature than the show, and the stories and art are adorable, funny, and very enjoyable. SURF'S UP, PIKACHU- the final book in the series- is definitely a great ending to an excellent series. It ties up the story with a nice relationship between Team Rocket (who Toshi makes absolutely kawaii), and Jari-booi (the twerps are actually likeable in Ono's series! ^__^). I'm sure all Rocketshippers (J&J romance supporters) are buying this for a very specific reason, but that's not the only cute part. There's basically nothing bad about this manga- even though it's very censored, it's still completely enjoyable. Buy it! It's worth the very small amount of money amazon.com charges!!

3-0 out of 5 stars ...the last book *sniff*
What a great way to end the series... a huge slowpoke, while the book is halariusly funny, and full of humour it wasn't what i was lead up to believe, Jesse and James are cute but they didn't really show much romance between the two, although a lot better than what the tv's doing. there wasn't much AAML but i can live with that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yaaaaaaay!!
I basically can say I agree with all the other positive reviews here, I just wanted to add another good review. And TRUST ME, this book is the number one must-have for Rocketshippers! You will not be disappointed! It has everything- humor, romance, excellent illustrations, a good story (based off the anime), and there is a GREAT battle between Ash and Drake at the end!

4-0 out of 5 stars Gotta Collect Them All!
Surfs Up Pickachu graphic novel, (part of a series) is by far the best reading material I've found out of all other Pokemon reading out there and comes highly recommended for good clean entertainment value and excellent illustrations! If you don't buy into any other Pokemon merchandising or reading materials buy into this! It has the sickeningly sweet critters children the world over have come to adore, but I feel is also apt to capture older readers interests as well compared to other books based on Pokemon because it actually has a decent plot and some quality behind it. Recommended if you are checking out Pokemon for the first time or already an avid fan! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pokemon Adventures
This type of pokemon manga is my favorite because it's fun, it's clean, and it is enjoyable. Especially if you have played the original pokemon gameboy games, then you will get the most out of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT!!!
This is the first one that I have read. It's really, really great. Instead of the usual Ash, Gary, Misty and Brock from the anime this book gives a whole new twist. The the hero being Red and his rival being Blue. In my opinion it's a whole lot than the anime. This manga is more non-childish and give the Pokemon world a whole new twist. Instead of like the anime where Ash gets a Pikachu, Red starts with a Poliwag which is actually a Poliwhirl. Red is more mature and so is Blue. The rivalry is actually intense. Blue actually has something to prove and his ego isn't that bad. The artwork is pretty good and so is the storyline. Instead of the slow moving pace in the anime, this book has a more quickened pace making you want more. All and all this is great. I would recommand everyone to buy it.

Pokemon Rules!!!
This is alot better than the tv show!! Red is alot smarter than Ash!!!!I just wish they had the new pkmn in it.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Red and Pikachu rule!
This comic book has many engaging adventures, some of which any kid can relate to--like having money problems! The pictures are drawn with skill and appealing style, while they don't look too much like the orginal Ash and Pikachu. In fact, if you're getting tired of them, you'll enjoy this book! The characters and plot are mainly from the Red Pokemon Gameboy game, so if you enjoyed playing that, you really should read this graphic novel!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pokemon Manga Rocks
This book stars Red (Ash/Satoshi in the manga) who is competing with Blue (Gary). Red and Blue are names that only link them with the games, not with the anime, and that is what this manga is about. Later in the series we also meet Green, who represents the third of the original pokemon games that was never released in America (and is a clever girl character, which I like seeing). There are a few twists, like Misty becoming friends with Red before Cerulean city, and some of the gym leaders like Koga being allied to Team Rocket, but that is part of what makes this a great story. Mew appears, which I love. Blue has more reason to show off in the Manga and seems to be a better rival than in the anime. He's still obnoxious, but at least you get to see him and red compete with each other, instead of constantly wondering if he's as good as he thinks he is. ... Read more
