5-0 out of 5 stars This book absolutely captured me. So did the movie itself.
This book is wonderful. Based on the movie that's currently in theatres. This book when I read it captured me. The movie captured me even more. It shows about life. The book is something that you should read. And, the movie you should also see if you haven't already seen it. It demonstrates something about life that everybody should know about. I would recommend this book for anybody, even the older ones because this book is for pretty much all ages. It will capture your heart, both the book and the movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Great book I read
This book was written exactly like the movie! It was so good that I had to find out what would happen next that I finished it in 2 days. I absouletly loved how well done it was and am going to read it again. I also liked the pictures that were included from the movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars GOOD BOOK!
This is a good book! I like it when all the pokemon original and clones cry for Ash because he got in Mewtwo's crossfire!

3-0 out of 5 stars A Wasted Oppurtunity
Okay, since I'm used to reading 400 page-long novels, I really expected to hate this book. I saw the movie, decided it stunk, and decided to see if the novelization was better. It's different, in a sense, but not better. If you don't have anything to do, read this book just to see Tracey West's interpretation of the movie. I think West is a bit mixed up. This book had no depth at all, and I was expecting some of the hidden meanings in the movie to show themselves, but that never happened. All this book did was tell a story. You could get much the same experience by listening to a friend talk about the movie. One problem I find with Poke'mon is that it's aimed at such a young audience. Because of this, they have to keep it as simple as possible. If they'd only realize that older kids watch it too! The series isn't alowed to develop to it's full potential, and I was REALLY hoping the book would do that. Yet, they continually simplify a good story just so little kids can just sit there watching and don't have to think! I don't understand. The other problem I had was the way they treated Ash. He has a bigger ego than in this book, people. I kept hearing his annyoing voice in my head throughout the whole thing and wishing a different character would take over. Ash just isn't cool. In fact, NONE of the characters are cool. We're given no clue as to whta they're thinking or what their motivations are, and that's something that makes books so much better than movies. Read this book because it's something different, not because it's good.

4-0 out of 5 stars gotta read 'em all !
this is the 1st chapt book my kids really got into ! my son is in the 1st grade and my daughter is in pre school, and they both loved it ! we haven't seen the movie yet but look forward to it coming on video ! this is a must read if you are trying to bridge the gap from story books to chapt. books. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars this is a good one
dont listen to that wierd old lady the book and movie are great there arent anydrugs sure theyre triping but everyone trips its sopposed to be funny the stuck in a pipe thing is exactly as it it charizard was stuck in a pipe and his friends helped him out and the colors make it more attractive and cooler looking and it teaches kids about helping others in need not some drug thing geez people try to point out things that resemble bad things just to ruin everyone elses enjoyment of something.

1-0 out of 5 stars Parents: Protect your Children
Having made the mistake of showing this film to my 5 year old, I thought I would drop a quick caution to parents. Most of the Pokemon material available is completely safe; this film is not. It is obviously aimed at the drug-culture. I don't know if the creators of Pokemon were trying to integrate older children into the cartoon with this one, but the fact remains that there are subtle allusions to "tripping" throughout this film. The scene transitions had a sort of pulsing tie-dyed pattern that left me feeling ill, and there is one scene in which part of the foliage is obviously drawn to resemble one of those "pipe and bong" devices you used to see during the 60s. Avoid this movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good book.
This book it's very good, ignore all what they say about the drugs, you know, i have seen it many times, and i dno't ee nothing bad on it, and that nonsense about the clouds, well in every film we see clouds on every forms, even in the REAL sky, it's a very good book, but way too short, and almost nothing but details, but it's very good, but i recommend you to read "The Art of pokemon the movie".

4-0 out of 5 stars Poke'mon:Pikachu's vacation
I've read the book and have seen the movie on several occasions(I have a 5 and 8 year old). I do not see any drug references or "'shrooms' in the movie or notice any references in the book. It was a highly colored, low cost anime from Japan aimed at little kids. The book and movie are to show how co-operation can be better than fighting and how destructive fighting can be. After reading the book, my kids and many of their friends have actually decided that (sometimes) co-operation is best. It's simplistic and may not be put in a way most adults would like, but just remember what you liked as a kid and how you drove your parents crazy and you'll enjoy it-in other words, don't grow up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hmmmmmmm
I DID think this movie was slightly lame, but it had NOTHING to do with hippie drug lords. It was really anoying when they tried to cheer togepi up! What I am tying to say is... THIS BOOK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DRUGS! THIS BOOK WAS GREAT FOR LITTLE KIDS. I WATCHED THIS MOVIE BEFORE AND I DIDN'T SEE A SO CALLED BONG OR THE 'SHROOM' CLOUDS! but, I will go now. don't believe the people about the hippie druglords thing. IT IS NOT TRUE! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny!
I just finished reading this book the other day, and I think it's very cute and funny! Diglett is having a birthday party and four of it's friends have come to celebrate. However, there's one problem: Diglett's cave is so dark that no one can see anything! However, Diglett continues to have his party even though his friends can't see. I think it's cute to guess what Diglett and his family look like. We get to see the inside of the cave twice: once when the candles on Diglett's cake are lit, and another time when the toy plane that Diglett got for his birthday breaks a hole in the roof of his cave and lets light in. I think this a very cute book because kids can use their imaginations to envision what the members of Diglett's family look like. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars "Pokemon" meets "Baywatch"?
"Surf's Up, Pikachu!", adapted by Bill Michaels, is #1 in the Pokemon Junior book series. Geared towards younger readers, this book recounts an adventure involving the Pokemon characters.

I have only a passing familiarity with the Pokemon phenomenon, and my impression of this book is that it is mainly geared to readers who already are conversant in the Pokemon mythos. I imagine that kids who aren't Pokemon fans will get 3 pages into this and go "Huh?"

The story begins with Ash and Pikachu at the beach on Seafoam Island. They meet Victor, a surfer who, together with his own Pokemon, plans to surf a legendary wave known as Humungadunga. But trouble arrives in the form of villainous Team Rocket.

The story is OK, but the illustrations seem to be merely random pictures of Pokemon characters; these illustrations seem to have no real relationship with the story. If your beginning reader is a Pokemon fan, he/she might like the book; otherwise, I can't recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars get your pokemon early reader to read
My second grade son dreaded reading at home for leisure or homework. Once he was introduced to the Pokemon junior series he began waking up early to read before school! The books are very appropriate for first and second graders with sight vocabulary and sentence structure levels set for late first grade or early second grade. I wouldn't want to read these myself as a mom, but my son is reading every day with this series. Research shows that the number of minutes spent reading a day correlates to a child's success in school.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for young Pokemon fans
My five year old Pokemon fan enjoyed the story -- Ash and Pikachu meet a surfer (and his unusual Pikachu) who dreams of surfing the world's biggest wave. There are no color illustrations, just black and white drawings of the characters, but my daughter didn't seem to mind. The book is fairly easy to read, but I wouldn't call it a first-step reader. What I liked best about the story was that it showed how Ash and Pikachu care for each other. It wasn't just about Pokemon battles.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Suprise and Exciting Pokemon Junior Book
Wow!This book surfs! Its a holiday for Ash and Pikachu. There's a wave that is the biggest in the world that come in 20 years. But there's trouble in there and ending with suprise/happy endings.Gotta buy that book. ... Read more

When Misty realizes that Togepi is hungry she calls on Staryu to get fruit out of a tree, but Psyduck pops out instead. Misty is frustrated, and she goes to look for fruit. Then Misty flashes back to the first time she met Psyduck. She meets Psyduck in Hop-Hop-Hop Town. They decide to have a Pokemon Battle, but Team Rocket has other plans. Can Misty defeat Marina and Team Rocket? Can Misty ever get Psyduck to listen to her? This was a great book about Misty. If you liked Splashdown in Cerulean City, then you should read this book. I also reccomend Team Rocket Blast Off and Prepare For Trouble. Have fun reading! 4-0 out of 5 stars It's Misty of Cerulean City!
In this issue of Pokemon Adventures, Red and Misty travel through Mt. Moon, but on the way they run into Team Rocket, a strange organization who's bent on capturing other people's Pokemon. After that, Red and Misty arrive at Cerulean City, where Misty lives. Apparantly she lives in a huge mansion, and has a whole bunch of maids which Red falls instantly in love with. Unfortunately for him, he gets on Misty's bad side and causes her to challenge him, unexpectedly, to a Gym Battle. Soonafter, Red ventures off further into the Pokemon world, and runs into a freakish looking half-Pokemon half-human that calls itself 'Bill'. If you enjoyed the game, you should really get this issue of Pokemon Adventures, because you'll probably enjoy this as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Magical Pokemon Journey 3
This comic book is so cute. It is great for younger kids between the ages 10-12. There is some gross mushy stuff in it that I could have done with out but other than that it is wonderful

3-0 out of 5 stars BEST POKE COMIC EVER!!
Hazel, a ditzy-lovesick kinda gal, is in love with the handsome skilled Pokemon Trainer Almond... He would actually BE skilled if Hazel would let him catch any Pokemon.
So basically Almond hates Hazel for not letting him catch any Poke's.
But then Grandpa, an old man, tells Hazel that if she catches Pokemon for him he'll prepare a Love Potion for Almond.
So Hazel tries to catch Pokemon (Although she didn't catch many) to win the Love Potion and Almond's heart! But many other characters soon appear making Hazel's quest easier/harder than ever! HILARIOUS COMIC!!!!!!!! READ IT EVERYONE!!

But this issue is bad comparing to the others really.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
In this book, there are 6 'chapters' plus 2 bonus stories and 2 bonus bounuses.

What happens in the 6 chapters is that a new character, Walnut, appears, and he's a ninja. Then, Almond wants to record the daily life of Jigglypuff in a journal, with disastrous results. Also, Hazel celebrates the anniversary of when she first met Pikachu (kind of like in the third short movie ^_^). Hazel and co. also celebrate their second Christmas. And then, they go on a potato hunt, to find the pink potato! (But then, I can't exactly remember the order of all these stories.... ^^;;)

In the bonus stories, Hazel tries to find her lost picture of Almond, and a Psyduck is asking a lot of weird questions (like why carrots are orange).

In the bonus bonuses, Yumi Tsukirino (the author and artist of this lovely manga) tells how she played 'Hey You, Pikachu!'. And she also retells traditional Japanese folktales using the characters of MPJ. ^_^

All in all, if you're a big fan of Pokemon, and love cute things, then this series is a must buy for you. And this graphic novel is no exception. ^_^ ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Pokemon merchandise out here!!!
Although this US version is quite censored, I can recommend it to any Pokemon fan, but it is absolute must have for any Rocketshipper! It is quite Ash-bashing despite the title. And there are also the most beautiful pictures of Jessie and James! The art style is marvelous and Mr.Ono's humour is great, too!!!
I like The Electric Pikachu Boogaloo the best from all 4 manga books by Toshihiro Ono. This series is one of my most favourite mangas (beside Cardcaptor Sakura and Gunsmith Cats).
Read it and you will see why! If you are manga fan and want quality, try this Pokemon manga series. It it not childish, I'm 20 and I enjoyed it very much!

4-0 out of 5 stars this cover's the best!!
i'm very happy ^_^ i managed to get the book with the three characters on front, if your worried by the title and hot it says, pokemon comic series three? just ignore it. the book's the same as the other 4. it was gorgess seeing meousy and all the stuff underwater, a must have...

5-0 out of 5 stars Pikaaa...Chuu!!!
This Pokemon tradepaperback is the best Pokemon item ever made! The stories are more interesting to read especially better than the television series. Once I got the book in my hands I was amazed at Toshihiro Ono's artwork. This guy can draw! I like good american art and more so manga art. Mr. Ono's work is outstanding story and art both. If you are a lover of good art and enjoy Pokemon this is the book to get ( along with all the othe TPs from his other 3 Pokemon books). Hope this review is helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mature Pokemon??
Well, we've all seen those cute and cuddly little freaks hogging the pages of TIME, and completely obliterating the trading-card market. But even a veteran Pokemon fanatic gets tired of Pokemon's general appearance [cute and child-friendly]. Well, that's where this book comes in. The Pokemon and characters are drawn in a much more manga way, and seem either more silly, serious, or enraged! Whoever this guy is, he needs to start working for Microsoft, because their website needs more than a little work! [visually, that is]

I briefly browsed through this thing in my local Waldenbooks, but I was blown away by the strangely realistic look of Venusaur and Blastoise [in mountain-form, nonetheless!]. Hell, I expected vulgar language and nudity on every other page, that's how Manga it looks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Incredible (The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of)
There are two things I somewhat pride myself on not being: 1)The first is a Pokemon fan (Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo, but I won't be sad when they finally stop producing Pokemon games) 2)The second is a comic book fan. I gave up comic books for many good reasons, the first of which is that I simply couldn't understand the piecemeal plots of the works. Look at it this way: Once a month, you either buy at a store or receive in the mail a small book of approximately 20 or 30 pages with decent art printed on lousy newsprint, it took you approximately 10 or so minutes to read, and then you had to wait a whole month to find out what happens next! That is why I turned to the trade paperback, and then ultimately turned to Manga. Not only did trade paperbacks keep my attention and immerse me in a fictional world for at least 10 minutes, but they usually contained whole stories. I came across Electric Pikachu Boogaloo in the book section of Target, I flipped through the pages and immediately fell in love with Toshihiro Ono's rather interesting take on the Pokemon Omniverse. What really grabbed my attention was the way in which the Pokemon were drawn; they were not quite the cute, cuddly cartoons of the orignal Nintendo games, but were something more: They looked like Animals! Real, living, breathing animals that could very well exist (cases-in-point: Meowth really looks like a cat and Gryados really looks like...well, a Gryados, but still the scariest looking Gryados I'd ever seen). What also made me fall in love with Electric Boogaloo was the story of the Clefairy's Off-world origins, and their effect on an adorable little girl and her pet Jigglypuff. The absolute best illustration in the story is presented to us when the little girl is awakened to the sounds of someone (or something) in the kitchen and creeps downstairs, heart racing. The next panel is possibly the most strangely eerie and yet amazingly alluring illustration I have ever seen: A seemingly innumerable amount of Clefairy all gathered around the refrigerator, foraging for whatever food they can find. I found myself staring at the panel for what seemed like hours as memories of times when comics were actually able to create moments of suspense and were able to pull the reader into a strangely foreign world with an all too haunting familiarity. I also found myself practically on the verge of tearing up during the little girl's monologue to the Clefairy about her long lost mother. And I couldn't help but smile when she first greeted her strange visitors ("Nice ta meetcha!"). Toshihiro Ono is an artistic genius, and of all the books in the series, this stands as the absolute best. Even if you're not a pokemon fan, and especially if you're not a comic book fan, you can find solace in the fact that this book embodies none of the things that make Pokemon or comic books so esoteric, alienating, and generally unenjoyable. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Enter the Coconut! and Other Tales
In the second graphic novel of this increibly kawaii (that means cute in Japanese) manga series, Hazel meets a rival for Almond's love: Coconut! Who will end up with Almond?

One of my favorite stories in this graphic novel is "Panic at the Cherry Blossom Festival." In it, a drunk Dodrio messes up a cherry blossom festival. But Eevee (Coconut's Pokemon) and Hazel's Pokemon can't stop it - because they're also drunk! How will the story end? (Parents, don't worry for a second about the drinking, because it's not nasty or anything.)

Another cute story is the second part of the story where Ash, Misty, and Brock are trapped in Hazel's world. Misty is drawn so cutely! And the story is funny.

So, overall, don't miss this graphic novel. It's smart, it's funny, it's cute, and it's MUCH better than Toshihiro Ono's Pokemon manga (at least in my opinion). ... Read more
