Nina Laden's illustrations in this simple, rhyming board book are truly magical. The format is straightforward: on alternating two-page spreads, the words "Peek a" are repeated, opposite an illustrated page with a die-cut hole, behind which lurks a cow ("MOO!"), a green ghost ("BOO!"), and a mirror (you guessed it, "YOU!"). The youngest readers will delight in trying to guess who--or what--is peeking through the window, and can easily grip the baby-fist-size holes to turn the pages for the answers. The picture of the "ZOO!" is fabulous. Through the hole, all that can be seen is a wild pattern of colors, stripes, and spots. Turn the page, and find a wild kingdom of animals, one in front of the other: peacock, zebra, penguin, cheetah, elephant, and more. Ready for more peekaboo fun? Try Nina Laden's Ready, Set, Go! . 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a beginner "reader"!
This is our 11 month old's favorite book! The bright pictures and the simple fun text really grab her attention when many other books have too many words per page or pictures that are too complex. She loves to help turn the pages and this one seems particularly easy for her to grab each page. We think this is perfect for when you are just beginning to read to your little one. It helps teach both parents and baby the joys of storytime.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book we have!
My son has loved this book since we started reading to him at 3 or so months. He has learned to turn the pages (and since the text is so short, I can read it before he turns!) He loves the bright simple pictures and especially the mirror at the end. He always kisses himself, it is SO cute. Course, now he kisses anytime he sees his reflection. This book is wonderful for the simple text and great pictures and the predictablity (a great pre-reading skill!) Our son is 10 months and will sit and "read" it to himself now! A must have for any child's nursery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Only book my 8-month-old picks from her pile
My daughter Giana loves to read along with this book! She's acquired about 50 books so far - thanks to her mother's love of reading and some very generous friends - but this book is the one she always grabs. The pages are colorful and easy for her to help turn, the rhyming is cute, and apparently the taste is great, too, because she often ends up using it as a teether...

5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite!
My two children love this book. We have fun making noises that go along with the words and it's been a favorite book for four years now! A good investment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Peek-A-Fun
Young children enjoy books that have pages to open and repeating punchlines. Peek-A-Who has both. It's also thankfully short for parents who have to read the book the large number of times. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A pop-up book very popular with 20-30 month children
Clearly drawn and cleverly constructed pop-ups are the heart of this simple tale. Our 24 month child loved it from the outset (he first saw it at 20 months), and subsequent gifts of this book to the childern of our friends suggest that our experience is far from unique. For a good two months this was book of choice, but then went out of favour. Older children who have seen this book have appreciated the story more - so we expect our's will come back to it at about 30 months when he will understand it more. Strongly recommended

5-0 out of 5 stars an exceptional lift-the-flap book with a sweet story
Kipper is looking for his teddy bear. Is it in the apple tree? No! Birds come flying out instead. Thus begins our odyssey into Kipper's world -- populated with mice, pigs and moon people (among others). Pop-ups are activated by lifting flaps and manipulating tabs. The latter may be difficult for young children, but they will most likely enjoy the action anyway.

The little surprise at the end is charming and sure to bring a smile to your little one's face.

Exceptionally well done.

Caveats: A few of the flaps are flimsy, so be careful if your child is rough on them. Kipper's usual friends (Pig, Arnold and Tiger) do not show up in the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Charmer!
Okay, I'm a sucker for pop-up books and a sucker for cute pups, so this one really couldn't miss for me. But this is a really cute pop-up and with the little light shining at the end....well, I can't imagine a child not falling for this book. Of course, if the battery burns out, a lot of the book's attraction fails...but that should be some time down the road.

5-0 out of 5 stars A really sweet book, even if you don't watch the show
The pop-ups are beautifully done, and really appeal to my 16 mo old son, and he just loves the little flashlight revealed at the end of the story -- one to add to the list of classics on the bookshelf which have fun effects, like Eric Carle's work. To describe Kipper -- he is the most adorable, laid-back dog. Lifes events are taken in stride with great good humor, and lessons aren't IN your face like in Barney type shows. Kipper's A to Z is another wonderful alphabet book, and is one of his favorites too!. He has learned to say bee, bzz like a bee, duck, quack, and strangely enough -- the word Happy from that book! He likes to keep saying moon and doggie to this one :-) Enjoy it!

As an update, he is now 3 1/2 and took this book to show and tell one day. The flaps and pull outs still work so its a sturdy, simple, engaging book. The theme of being able to go to sleep even without your favorite item that you are obsessing about is also reassuring. (Kipper falls asleep, and we find teddy was reading a book at his feet under the covers with a flashlight) You know that Kipper will wake up in the morning and find his teddy.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is fun
My 2 year old loves this book. I don't let him look at it by himself as I fear it would not last, but he wants it read to him several times a week (and he has about 100 books)! I let him operate many of the flaps now that it is a little broken in and he thinks they are hillarious. The little flashlight at the end of the book keeps him guessing. We always turn out the light and he puts his finger over the flashlight to make his finger light up. It is a lot of fun to read, especially if you like the kipper cartoon series. Nice and gentle bed time reading too, not too stimulating. One of the very best of the kipper book series. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great interactive book...but easily destroyed by 2 yr. old!
My daughter loved this book! The movable parts even made her demand her potty so that she could try the same movements as the book's character! In the first hour, though, she tore one of the tabs. Still, a fun and engaging book!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Silly! It's Fun! It's A Great Book!
This was our first potty book - a gift from Grandma. If you've spent any potty training time you know you've got to have patience while you wait...and wait...and wait. This book helped to pass the time. My daughter loved to lift the flaps and pull the tabs. Eventually she began to "read" it for herself. After two kids this book has seen better days (and lots of scotch tape). But hopefully it will make it through our third child!

We have read almost every potty book available on the market as of 9/2003 (over two dozen!). Most fit into two categories: INSTRUCTIONAL books that introduce the skills needed to master the potty; and those that are primarily ENTERTAINING, for children who understand what is supposed to happen on the potty, but need extra time to make it happen.

I think What Do You Do With A Potty fits more in the INSTRUCTIONAL category for the following reasons:

1) It identifies the purpose of the potty.
2) It specifies bodily functions ("poopy" and "tinkle" in this case)
3) Shows the transition from diapers to big kid underwear.
4) Includes the important steps such wiping, flushing, and hand washing.

For other activity books on this same subject, try Let's Go Potty by Moira Butterfield or Sara's Potty by Harriet Ziefert.

So what can you do with this book? Enjoy it again and again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for both sexes
My twins (boy and girl) love this book. The toddler pictured is pleasantly androgenous, which may bother some people, but not us. I think it's not good behavior for a boy to urinate standing up unless there's a urinal (too many "aiming" mistakes, even with grown men!), so having the character be sitting down is important. Charming and informational.

4-0 out of 5 stars humorous and fun introduction to using the potty seat
This 10-page pull-tab book is a funny introduction to using the potty seat. Cartoons of a little boy ask 'What do you do with a potty?' and 'What goes in the potty?' Pull-tabs show the boy pulling down his pants and sitting on the little seat, pulling out the toilet paper and emptying the pot into the big toilet.

The mood is upbeat and fun, the format is engaging for children. Terms used are 'poopy' and 'tinkle'. Handwashing is not mentioned.

This is a happy little book that should be used in conjunction with other, more informative books, such as Sears' "You Can Go To the Potty".

4-0 out of 5 stars An awesome book
This is wonderful book before I got this book my daughter may have spent a total of ten minutes actually sitting on the potty. Since, I purchased this book she has since gone potty twice in the last week and won't leave the restroom until we have read it about five times or more. And she loves the litte lift tabs and pop-up parts which are on every page. I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not sturdy enough for toddlers
The idea is a good one, but the very first thing my toddler did was rip the frog off the page. Also, it's not board book, and it doesn't have regular paper pages, it's something in between. More like oak tag folded over to create stiff pages. Pat the Bunny is the only one of this series that I would recommend.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why mess with the original?
Unfortunately, this is one of my 19-month old's favorite books, so I am subjected to it at least 8 times a day. The original, Pat the Bunny, is a sweet book that has an inherant, simple appeal for toddlers. Dated though it may be, it still retains a freshness that my whole family enjoys. I thought I was getting more of the same when I purchased Pat the Puppy and Pat the Pony, but this was not to be. These two books are fraught with political-correctness of a most annoying nature -- why does Granny have to go jogging, and Grandpa bake the brownies? Aren't small children comfortable with seeing stereotypical behavior in books? Give children more credit, and trust them to know that not all families are alike. They don't have to see it in a book to know that people have differences and these differences are to be celebrated. Another annoyance is that the book has too many words. Part of Pat the Bunny's appeal was its simplicity. I don't need to know that the puppy's name is Bailey, and now that I've patted him, do I need to tickle his tummy as well? By the time I read all those words, my daughter is expecting me to turn the page to get on to the next scenario.
Oh, and there's one small grammatical mistake -- we are asked whether Granny's sunglasses feel shiny. Is "shiny" something touchable?
I would not have purchased this book had I known there would be such a feeble attempt at copying the original. In fact, I would rate this book with zero stars if it weren;t for the fact that my daughter likes it. Ugh. Save your money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the best of the series
We have "Pat the Bunny", "Pat the Cat", "Pat the Pony" and this book, "Pat the Puppy". I would say that this is not as interesting to our child as "Pat the Bunny" and "Pat the Cat", but it is better than "Pat the Pony".

Tom and Sarah visit their grandparents. First they pat the puppy. The tabs are sturdy, and allow a child to make a frog leap, help the kids rock in a chair, and wag a dog's tail.

Mild criticisms: the scratch 'n' sniff brownie doesn't really smell like a brownie; it doesn't really smell like anything on the planet, though it is not an evil smell. Using smooth sunglasses as an interactive experience is pretty [bad]. And twice there are two-page scenarios (grandpa putting pictures (?) on the VCR and grandma taking off her jogging (!) shoes) where the child is introduced to the activity and then turns the page to experience an interactive aspect to it (turning a wheel to change the pictures -- you know, just like a real VCR! -- and unstrapping the velco on grandma's running shoes, respectively). For continuity's sake and to facilitate the limited attention span of young children, it would be better if the two pages faced each other.

It's nice that the kids visit their grandparents, and that grandma and grandpa are not stereotypes (grandpa bakes, grandma runs!), but if you don't have "Pat the Bunny" and "Pat the Cat", the best of the series, I would get those first.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pat the Puppy
This is a wonderful book and a wonderful way to learn more about your child! My daughter (age 3) loves this book, because it allows her to interact as we read along. Another thing that is great about it, is that it describes the children leaving home to visit their grandparents. Then it leads you to daily activities at their grandparent's house. Lastly, the children return home to their pet wagging it's tail happy to see them! It's a wonderful way to teach a child that visiting their grandparents can be a lot of fun! My daughter also loves, Pat the Bunny, Pat the Cat, and Pat the pony!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of my daughters favorites!

This exceptional board-book tells a beautiful and timeless story about a daughter's attempt to find the limit of her mother's love. Barbara Lavallee's exquisite illustrations of Alaska, with their exaggeratedly foreshortened perspective and rich tones of violet, blue-gray, and gray-green, tell of an easy declaration ("I love you more than the raven loves his treasure, more than the dog loves his tail, more than the whale loves his spout") that is pushed, and pushed, and ("What if I put salmon in your parka ... and ermine in your mukluks?") pushed. There's a quiet joyfulness in both the antics of the Inuit mother and daughter and in the animals--including a polar bear and a musk ox--that the daughter imagines she might become. A charming story for mothers and daughters of all ages. (Baby to preschool) --Richard Farr ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Message, Great Book
This story focuses on one simple question that every child thinks at one point or another. The question is whether their parents will always love them no matter what the child does. This story confirms for children young and old, that no matter what they do, their parents (mama) will still love them.

The story is delightfully told from the perspective of the Intuit culture. The mischief the child creates deals with things that are unique to that culture such as accidentally dropping ptarmigan eggs, spilling the oil in the family's lamp, slipping an emrine in mama's mukluks or turning into a Walrus. My son and I enjoy talking about how different cultures live and what they believe and this book has started some fun conversations.

I believe the story does not prompt children into asking the "wrong" question as mentioned in other reviews. The story promotes the idea of a parent's love and acceptance no matter what their little hellion does and does it with a wonderful story and captivating artwork. This has become one of our favorite books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Children are allowed to ask questions...
This book is a great example of a child probing for answers. "Mama, Do You Love Me?" allows a child to seek out the boundaries of a mother's love. It touches upon cause and effect, with the chid daring the mother to still love even if she does the most horrible things. The mother's response is that although she would be sad, she would still love her child.

I thought this book was a great teaching tool to say, "I love you, my child, even when you do things that are not so nice."

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for boy or girl
I was a little put off by the idea that this is a "great book for mothers and daughters". Just because the child in the story is a girl does not mean that this book is not for boys too. My three year old son loves this book and so do I!

2-0 out of 5 stars Too much for the age level for which it's intended
There are about 10 words in this book I could not define without pulling out the dictionary. Heck..a few I can't even pronounce!
I'm all for introducing children to different cultures (such as the Eskimo culture depicted in this book) but this book is intended for babies and toddlers, who are barely getting the hang of their own culture. By the time my child can read this book on her own, she won't ask, "Mama, do you love me?" She'll ask, "Mama, What's a ptmargin egg and a mukluk?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Comments from The Spiritual Reviewer
Love is the only thing that really matters! There's no mistaking the powerful allure of unconditional love in this young children's book, which has just been republished in a 10th anniversary commemorative edition.

Mama, Do You Love Me? depicts an Inuit mother who loves her daughter, no matter what. Throughout the story the daughter repeatedly asks, "Mama, do you love me?" She comes up with many intriguing and playful reasons why the mother might be persuaded to withhold love. For example, what if the daughter broke the ptarmigan eggs? What if she put lemmings in her mother's mukluks? The mother does not hide or lie about her feelings. Sometimes she says she would be surprised, or angry, or scared, but these variable emotions do not change her love for her daughter. Her daughter is her Dear One, always and forever.

This story is best suited for a young child, but it may also be interesting to anyone who's very keen on Alaska or Inuit life.

This book received a score of 7.50 on a scale of (1) low to 10 (high) from The Spiritual Reviewer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated story for young children.
I love this story of the determined spider who is blown on a fence and begins to weave her web, too busy to play with the other animals. She catches her fly at the end. The typical farm animals are represented and young children will be able to identify the animals by the pictures and can make the noises of the animals portrayed. The web can be felt with the fingertips, although my son was never and is still not impressed with this feat, although his mother is. Eric Carle is a masterful illustrator and story teller. If you have never read his books to young children and seen the fascination of a 2 year old sitting and waiting for the page to be turned, you are missing out. He does not have one bad book. His illustrations are stunning. We have a LOT of books at our house and this one is chosen at least once a week for a bedtime story. Highly highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific for toddlers
My two-year-old and I love this book. It's about a spider who blows in, lands on a fence post, and spends the entire day building a web. She keeps working as various animals tempt her to do other things. At the end of the day, she catches a fly in her web and then falls asleep, tuckered out from her busy day. This book has several things going for it. First, it is a very simple narrative, making it one of the first stories that your child will be able to understand. Second, it is repetitive. Toddlers LOVE repetition and it is good for them. It helps them stay focused on the story, and gives them a chance to "read" something themselves, because they will naturally recite the repetitive bits as you come to them. Last of all, this book has several animals and the noises they make--very important for that fund of knowledge you are building. Oh, and I forgot the kicker: The spider web is made of some sort of 3D glue, making it tactile. My son loves running his fingers along it. I would have given this book 5 stars, but I love Carle's THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR even more!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute
This is a cute story about a spider who drops in on a farm. All the farm animals greet her and invite her to play. But the spider spends the day building her web instead. The book is fun and informative, and not at all scary. The pages are doubled so they are easy to turn, but be careful, because inquisitive little fingers may reach inside the pages and rip them. The book has about 350 words.

4-0 out of 5 stars silent
I liked this book but it was too short. I mostly liked this book because of the spiders web you get to feel. I wouldn't mind reading it again.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Very Busy Spider
This book is about a spider that is spinning its web while alot of animals came and ask it to play.
The moral of the book is that after your done working you can have fun. It is a good book for young kids because it has colerful pictures and it teaches about spiders and what they do.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter LOVES this book!
We have four Elmo's World books and this one is my 17 month old daughter's absolute favorite. Night after night she will pick this book for me to read to her. It is a really simple book with nice, clear pictures. We have read this countless times and yet she continues to love it. Highly recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book, but poor construction
I bought this book for my 1 year old niece, and she loves it! Any book that has flaps is a sure-fire hit with her. However, this book's flap construction doesn't live up to the rigors of a 1 year old. She's torn off 2 flaps already and she's only had it a month. I wouldn't consider her an extra strong toddler, nor is she hard on her toys, but the flaps in the book just aren't strong enough. For that reason alone, I'm giving the book 4 rather than 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Balls!
My daughter loves this book! We own 3 out of the 4 Elmo's World books and this is by far her favorite! She loves to lift the flaps and can point at the different types of balls described! The only drawback is that the book isn't very sturdy-other than that-it's great!

2-0 out of 5 stars Elmo + balls does not = fun
My son loves Elmo. My son loves balls. But he does not love this book. It's boring. Five two-page spreads (with one flap on each) attempt to recreate an edition of Elmo's World -- talking to Dorothy and a baby etc. -- but the result is kind of a mess. The text is supposed to be chatty but it is ill-suited to reading aloud. For example, one spread reads "Let's ask the baby how to catch a ball. Thank you, Baby! Watch Elmo catch a ball. Like this! Gotcha! Can you catch a ball?" The cardboard on the flaps is flimsy and easily bent out of shape.

This is not an evil book, but it was disappointing and I don't think we'll get any more of this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Elmo: Greatest Thinker of the 21st Century
We might start by talking about what you already know about Elmo and his ideas. He's one of the most important thinkers of the twentieth century, if only because versions of his ideas have permeated popular culture; it's unlikely that anyone in this class has never heard of, or used, a Elmodian idea--such as a Elmodian slip, dream analysis, or even the word "unconscious."

When Elmo looks at balls (which he does in Balls!: Elmo's World), he sees two fundamental principles at work, which he calls the "pleasure principle" and the "reality principle." The pleasure principle tells us to do whatever feels good; the reality principle tells us to subordinate pleasure to what needs to be done, to work. Subordinating the pleasure principle to the reality principle is done through a psychological process Elmo calls SUBLIMATION, where you take desires that can't be fulfilled, or shouldn't be fulfilled, and turn their energy into something useful and productive.

This analysis is taken to multiple levels with the examination of the beach ball, baseball and in a stroke of genius, the Basketball. I have followed Elmo and his writings since the "early" years when he published "Kitty, Kitty, Warm and Pretty" and "See Me Go Potty". Balls! is by far his best work and should reside on anyone's shelf who respects fine writing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I don't normally buy into advertising type of items such as this. However, this is such a well put together book I bought it. I'm glad I did. My son (2 years old) has loved this book and enjoyed for almost a year now. He is passing on the fun to his little sister as he helps her learn to do this book.

It works with eye and hand coordination which is great. It deals with missing pieces which is an important skill for pre reading and math. It is fun to do with a mom and child, two children or just by yourself. It's a great book.

I'm getting another one we like this one so much.

Enjoy

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun for baby & mommy!
This book was designed to bring out the cutest in your baby!

My little ones have had so much fun filling up the little holes with cheerios. It's a "find the missing part of the picture" game, and encourages their coordination, as they put the cheerios in the empty spaces. It's really a very fun book, part game and part learning, and then there's the eating involved...

We have had lots of fun with this one. It's really a game for both the mommy and the baby to play together.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Nice Treat For Toddlers!!!
This book is a special treat for my toddler. It is very bright and colorful and pretty short. It emphasizes counting and eating cheerios, LOL.

My daughter loves to get this book out a million times a day so I will go get some cheerios. I have had to start putting it up after reading it twice, or she will just want to read it all day long and the eat the cheerios that go along with it too!

A neat book that you are sure to get alot of use out of!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheerio A+
This book is great for baby's and toddlers. There are holes on each page just right for cherrios to be placed. We put them in, we take them out, and of course we eat them. Excellent for keeping busy when in a waiting area. Just don't forget the Cheerios!

5-0 out of 5 stars Tasty book for toddlers
This book is a wonderfully interactive board book that allows children to use Cheerios cereal to complete various illustrations. It is written with simple language for young children to understand and respond to easily. We discovered that my niece, who hardly eats a thing, was delighted to interact with and eat the Cheerios after each page was to be turned. Lots of fun! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Mixed-Up Chameleon, School Project
I think that "The Mixed-Up Chameleon" by Eric Carle is a really great, fun and interesting, and a great learning experience for children. Personally, I have loved this book since as long as I can remember. In the beginning, it describes a chameleon that is bored of its boring life. He then goes to the zoo and sees all kinds of different and beautiful animals. Astonished by the sight of all of them, he wishes to become them one by one. He must wish to be about ten animals including a person. After all of this excitement, he sees a fly and...... Well, I can't tell you what happens! Buy this book and your child(children) and you can find out together.
This is the type of book that you can read and enjoy for years and years. Although, if I had to lower it down to a certain age group, then, I would have to say it's mostly for children from the ages 5-8. But don't get me wrong, I'm defiantly not telling all of you that are older not to read this book.
For all of you parents out there:
This book is a great choice for children that are in the learning process of reading. It's easy to comprehend and there are not many words that will be stumbled on. Also, it has a great lesson behind all of it. You can wish to be something else, and if that wish comes true, then all it will tell you is that you were perfect the way you were before. Wishing to be something else will just make things difficult in the long run.
So after hearing all that I have to say do you think you'll be interested in buying a book like this? Trust me, it will be worth the money and a great buy.
Also, I just wanted to say that if you enjoy this book, then I believe that you will enjoy every single one of Eric Carle's others. He is an amazing author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Artwork, Strong Message
Eric Carle's "The Mixed-Up Chameleon" tells the story of a little chameleon who hates the fact that he changes color to match his surroundings. He notices a zoo and all the wonderful and distinctive animals there. He begins to wish for (and receives) various elements from the animals ("I wish I was tall, like a giraffe" is one). The chameleon ends up as an assemblage of parts which look great on the original animals, but don't do very well all together. The rub comes when the hungry chameleon cannot reach the fly to eat it. He wishes to be himself again and regains his true form.

My kids love this book, not only for the beautiful artwork, but also because as each page is turned, the new animal whose feature the chameleon takes is shown, so at the end, all the animals are shown at the edge of the page. I like the message that being yourself is always the best, and that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for the Classroom
This is a story of a chameleon who is not happy. He thinks he is not exciting. He sees some beatiful animals at the zoo and wishes he could be like them. The animals he sees are: a white polar bear, a pink flamingo flamigo, a red fox, an orange fish, a brown deer, a yellow giraffe, a green turtle, a blue elephant, and a purple seal. Each time the chamelon sees a new animal he wishes he could be like them. The chamelon's body begins to dipict a part of the other animals. At the end of the story he wishes to be back to normal. This book could be used in the classroom when the students are learning their colors. It could be used to reinforce squencing. The students could retell the order the animals appear. The illustrations are are wonderful in this book. The students could construct torn-paper designs to illustrate the chameleon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Story grows on you
We read this book after Brown Bear and Polar Bear and about the same time as Hungry Caterpillar. While my 2 1/2 year old son, Brian, loves all of his Eric Carle books, he's particularly taken with this mixed-up chameleon. From the first page, there are already new concepts to grasp, such as seeing the chameleon turn "brownish" after it moved onto a "brown" tree, "reddish" on a "red" flower, and "yellowish" on the "yellow" sand. That's just Page 1. Subsequently, Brian would then read out loud, how "I wish I could be HANDSOME like a flamingo,"..."smart like a fox",..."funny like a seal" at which point he'll go "hahahahaha". He's only had the book for 3 weeks and he's already "reading" almost the whole book by himself. The story has a moral to it too, about how the chameleon, after wishing to be all the things it wasn't, ended up so mixed-up that it finally wished "I could be myself." We have great fun reading about the chameleon together, as we do about the other Eric Carle characters: hungry caterpillar, brown bear, polar bear, and little cloud.

5-0 out of 5 stars A colorful story with a valuable lesson
Eric Carle has a beautiful way of telling stories that touch the heart and teach valuable lessons. The Mixed-up Chameleon tells a story about the importance of being yourself. My 2 year old loves the bright pictures and easy to follow story. Another loved Eric Carle story! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hopefully the lion won't got bald from all of the touching..
My 4-month-old loves this book. She expecially loves the lion's long fur. She grabs it and will hold on for a long time. Needless to say, we spend most of our time on the lion page! But the other animals are neat too; a bumpy lizard, a smooth dolphin, a frog with sticky pads on its fingers, etc. This is a nice book to share with your child.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son loves this book!
This book has the greatest variety of different touch sensations that I have seen anywhere. My 2 year old son received this for Christmas last year and it has been his favorite. The sticky tree frog was the best page for him. It did lose the stickiness quickly, but I found an adhesive at a craft store that was specifically for tackiness. I just put it on the spots whenever they wear out and then we have weeks of fun again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photos and unique textures
All of the DK (publisher) books have gorgeous photographs, and this one is no exception. The photos are sharp and bright and the animals are highlighted against a white background, which makes them look like they are about to jump off the page. The textures in this book are really unique too. So many of the touch and feel books have all the same textures (fur, sandpaper, etc). This book has really unique and interesting textures (e.g. a cool, rubbery, soft, smooth surface for the dolphin - it really feels like the skin of sea mammals I have touched; and a bumpy shiny surface for the lizard skin). My 14 month old daughter really enjoys feeling all the different textures and "reading" this book to herself. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great hands on book!
Well, as a mom of a now-16 month old, I have to say that the "Touch and Feel" guys have "Pat the bunny" beat hands down. My son loves the diverse textures of this one and at a time when he rarely sits still for an entire book, we go through this one several times before he moves on. I love the diverse animals and the large "touching" sections. My only complaint is that the sticky patches for the tree frog lost their stickiness in about a week. Just proves that it is well loved already!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Baby to Toddler Book
My 11-month old daughter can't get enough of this book and the "Touch and Feel" series. We started reading them to her when she was less than 6 months old because we thought she would enjoy the different textures. Not only does she still love touching the various textures, but she grabs the books and hands them to us so we read them to her over and over again. Nice short phrases on each page, beautiful pictures, cool textures, and very durable construction. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have!!
I bought this book for my eight-month old daughter. It is her absolute favorite book. The size is small enough that she can turn it over and over in her hands, open the pages and the flaps. We read it to her several times a day. I would recommend this for any parent with small children!

4-0 out of 5 stars Also on our second copy
This book was much beloved, and ripped, by our older son. Now our younger son is in love! Both boys have learned animal names and sounds from this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son's favorite book
My 9 month old loves this book! He lifts the flaps with no problem and turns the pages as we read. The flaps are sturdy and have stood up to his tugging. He doesn't chew on books, but he likes to toss them around and this one has really held up. We also recommend "Lift a Rock..." by the same author. These are great books!

5-0 out of 5 stars On our second copy
We received this book as a gift (and I'm giving it as one today) and it has been a lifesaver. We used it dozens of times a day from the time our daughter was about 8 months until now (20 months). She still oves it and we finally had to buy a second copy (she chewed on it a lot). It stands up to abuse really well, but this was too much to ask of any paper-based product. I wish there were more like this one. It's great for your purse or diaper bag, in the stroller etc. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We love this book
My 1 year old son just got two Maisy books for his birthday. This book was one of them. It is amazing to see how much he loves this book. He brings it to us and makes us read it over and over and loves to lift the flaps. This has made bedtime stories much easier (since he is never still).

4-0 out of 5 stars KIds Love These Lift the Flap Books
If you are the parent of a young child, you probably know who Maisy is. She's a mouse with a duck, a squirrel, an elephant, and a crocodile for friends. Why the crocodile isn't trying to eat the others is beyond me, but that's life in Maisy's world.

Both of my daughters love the Maisy books; there's something about their simple stories and colorful pictures that even appeals to adults. The books are short and easy to read. But, the stories are never obnoxiously simplistic, like so many other books for small children.

This is a lift the flap book in which the childen are lifting flaps in search of Maisy. They find all of her friends before finally locating Maisy. That sneaky little mouse; hiding at the end of the book. One caution, the kids might get a little aggressive with the flaps and tear a few, resulting in the purchase of a new lift the flap book.

5-0 out of 5 stars She loves it!
My 5 month old simply loves this books. She gets excited whenever we bring it out to read. It's almost like she's anticipating to see what's behind the flip cover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mother of 14-month old

My little Thomas loves this book! He loves all the flaps and has nearly read the book to pieces. Bright colors, animals, children, so many things for him to enjoy. He's only 2, and he has enjoyed this book since he was old enough to listen to Mommy reading. I highly recommend this book!

My son absolutely loves this book! We started reading it together when he was just a year old, and he still loves it. Several months ago our original was ruined while on a trip (juice cup leaked and stuck the board-pages together). Since it was a shower gift, I had no idea where to find it. On a whim (since it's now the holiday season) I looked here on Amazon.com and am ecstatic to find it! I can't wait to see my son's face on Christmas when he sees his beloved Thomas book. 5-0 out of 5 stars Nice book!
Very nice book. Nice colors, nice pictures.
Very handy to teach little ones about + Action words + shapes and Colors + counting + opposites + feelings.
But what I love the most is the diversity of little people. You can find an asian boy, a black mother, a girl with glasses... Nice game to play: "where is the grand-dad?"

Flaps look strong, but i still want to be with my baby right now so he doesn't tear them all! It's such a nice book...

5-0 out of 5 stars The BIG yellow bus that could
My 19 month old loves this book, and prefers it over all of his other books. The flaps have won him over. He loves pulling them up and down to see what "opposite" is on the other side. Because it's centered around school, he relates to it easily since he's in daycare. It's the first book he's started "reading" to himself and to his little buddy doll, and he's even started "counting" all the little people in the book. He wants to take the book everywhere we go! I'm going to get the other books in this series, so that he'll have new adventures to pursue once he's "finished" his fascinating bus ride.

My children love Little People and being able to buy books where they can recognise the characters is exciting for them. The lift-the-flaps get my children involved in the story while I read it to them. No matter how many times we read it, it's always a surprise to find out what is under the flap.
