5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book - AND Durable TOO
I don't usually do reviews, but this book has survived for 3.5 yrs now which is unusual for the "lift the flap books". I have 16 mo twins and my little girl twin likes these kinds of books but finds them to be the "lift and rip and tear" books. Not so with this book - the flaps have actually survived her curiosity and destructiveness! And of course, we all love Bear, Tutter and his friends. A worthwhile purchase for your kids library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Little Kids
I bought this book for my 15 month-old son, and he adores it. Of his many children's books this book is one of his favorites by far. The pages are easy for little hands to turn, it is a steardy board book, and the flaps are easy to lift and fun for small children. The illustrations are bright and colorful, so it keeps the attention span of little ones. He especailly loves to open the big flap at the end of the book that reveals Luna, the moon. If your child likes Bear in the Big Blue House and Lift- the-Flaps books, they will love this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars AN ESSENTIAL COMPANION FOR BEAR LOVERS
.

If your pre-schoolers love " Bear in the Big Blue House" on TV, they will adore this book.

Jim Henson has over the years created some very lovable characters. The Bear has to be one of the best so far.

In this "Lift the Flap" book we get to meet all Bear's friends. We have Pip and Pop covered in suds in the bath. And then there's Treelo under the bed covers and Ojo under the sofa.

Open the shutters and look out the attic window. Who do we see? It's our special friend Luna.

A perfect bed time book for the young ones.

"Good night, my friend" says Bear.

.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great book for 1 & 1/2 year olds and up.
This book is a great adjunct to the TV show. As new parents we are just learning about ALL the kids shows. We can't stand the Purple Dino, So we like Tele-Tubbies and such. We discovered this show on the Disney Channel and Our child likes The Big Bear, Luna the Moon, and all the songs.

As for the Flaps, as all parent know or will find out, little kids will pull them off if not watched when they play with the books on their own

She can already find all the characters by name and loves to point to them as we say the names, since she still has a Caveman vocabulary. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Color fun for one, again.
I am buying this book for the second time. My one year old daughter's first copy has been over 'loved' and some of the pages have stuck together after enjoying lunch along with her!

The shiny paper is fascinating for small fingers and large eyes. The colors theme focuses on the most logical use for the 'dazzle' effect and I'm not likely to buy the other books in this series. But I find this a simple and unfailingly attractive book, useful for learning the names of objects as well as colors. It also is the preferred 'distractor' when we go shopping!

5-0 out of 5 stars A big favorite of my 20 month old
This book is a big hit in our home because it gives toddlers the chance to "do it myself." This colorful board book has pages with animal drawings that slide out. Each page has a color with a printed texture (e.g. a red page with darker red dots on it). At the top or side of the page is a solid tab that allows the child to pull out a picture of an animal with that same texture on it (e.g. the red page has a ladybug hidden in it like the one printed on the cover of the book).

This book is a favorite because the sliding mechanism is very well made, so my daughter is generally able to work the pages herself with little or no help from me. She recognizes the colors and textures on each page and names the animal before she pulls the picture out and then really enjoys demonstrating that she was right. All of the pages are very sturdy and well made, so it's hard for little fingers to damage it.

Excellent book!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun & Learning
Purchased this book based on good reviews; and heartily agree. My daughter is now 2 and still enjoys the book; pulling out the sliding pages & naming the pictures and colors, not to mention the practicing of motor skills! An excellent addition to your bookshelf or as a gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book but buy glue with it!
I love this book and so does my 14-month-old but if she doesn't pull the slider out straight but instead twists it a bit, the pages have a habit of coming apart and the slider slides all the way out. Oops! Very easy to fix (a little glue does the trick), but I've had to glue 2 pages back in in the month we've owned it. It is indeed a favorite book.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 1 year old granddaughter LOVES this book!
I found this book through one of those "So you want to..." lists. After reading the reviews, I decided to add it to my granddaughter's gifts for her first birthday. She LOVES it! The combination of color and the sliding pages engage her fully and she will look at it over and over again. She takes it with her all of the time. I am very picky about children's books (English degree, don't you know:) and I just think this one is GREAT!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Maisy at the Grocery Store
If you are the parent of a young child, you probably know who Maisy is. She's a mouse with a duck, a squirrel, an elephant, and a crocodile for friends. Why the crocodile isn't trying to eat the others is beyond me, but that's life in Maisy's world.

Both of my daughters love the Maisy books; there's something about their simple stories and colorful pictures that even appeals to adults. The books are short and easy to read. But, the stories are never obnoxiously simplistic, like so many other books for small children.

Maisy visits Charlie only to find his cupboards are bare, so its off to the grocery store. For reasons known only to them, my children aren't real wild about this Maisy book. Still, like all Maisy books, they liked it the first time around; maybe we've just read this one too many times.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Simple
Like all Maisy books, this one is sweet and simple. My kids love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great toddler book
In this book Maisy and Charley go grocery shopping. My two year old loves grocery shopping and is fascinated by the book. We read it over and over and over. Actually it is great for me too, because I use it to talk about what kind of foods we can buy at the grocery store. Maisy and Charley buy apples, bananas, yogurt, bread etc... It is a good opportunity to get in a plug for nutritious foods. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This is a great book for little ones. My son loves the lift the flap pages and learning about all the animals. Plus, as always, it is always nice that the Wiggles are always concerned about teaching kids the right things and are properly dressed throughout the book. i.e. they have short outfits on top of their traditional outfits. Really, really like that! Thanks Wiggles for being there to help!

5-0 out of 5 stars 4 Wiggles On Each Page See Diffrent Animals.
The Wiggles love to go on a Wiggly Safari Adventure, and they love to look at animals that live there. Greg has to be careful while seeing snakes, Anthony sees Asian Wolves called Dingos, Murray looks at crocodiles who get fed by Steve Irwin from the movie. Last but not least, Jeff holds a koala in his arms and they sleep about 18 hours a day, that's like Jeff who's always falling asleep.

What I love most about this book, is liffting up the flaps.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wiggles Love Their Wiggly Safari Adventure.
Wiggly Safari takes place at the Australia Zoo, only now in four different editions. 1.Video, 2.DVD, 3.Music,4.Lift-the-flap book. I once looked at the pictures inside, and that's how I see Greg, Murray, Anthony and Jeff on one page at a time, I think this book is really a pop-up book-in fact, that's what Lift the flap means in other words. The Wiggles and their friends hope that someday, you'll have your own Wiggly Safari, too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for very young Wiggles fans
Our son just turned 2 and received this as a gift. He loves the lift the flap format and realistic pictures of australian wildlife but the real attraction is the Wiggles characters. 2-0 out of 5 stars great concept, poor execution
My son, as most babies, loves mirrors so I thought this book would be great. However, the mirrors in this book are like fun house mirrors--the baby can't really see another baby face in it. He has received this book twice, and both have this problem. ALthough he likes the book, his favorite is another book with a "clear" mirror in it.

Also, I'm not sure why some of the animals have names, and some are called by what they are. Odd.

There are some Baby Einstein products that I love, but this is not one of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
My two year old loves this book. The pictures are bright and colorful and the sentences are short enough that he doesn't lose interest.

We have loved all the Baby Einstein products so far and this is no exception.

5-0 out of 5 stars My baby loves it!
My baby is 6 months old and loves to look at himself in the mirror and the bright images stimulate him! Great book highly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved It!!
My son who was six months at the time I purchased the book, loved it! He would not only look at himself in the mirrors, but would also lay the book on the floor and look at the reflections on the ceiling. He is now 19 months and still loves it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Vibrant Pictures, Good for Babies
As with all Baby Einstein books, this one has incredibly colorful and vibrant pictures. A few other reviewers commented on the quality of the mirrors, they are thin reflective film with a 'fun house' effect, but the 0-9 month age group really isn't going to care. Each page features simple text for younger ones with a mirror. The back of the book has 3 tips and ideas for parents.

The best way to encourage your child to read is to have books in the home. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter's FAVORITE!
My two-month-old daughter got this book for Christmas. I thought she was too young for it. Boy, was I wrong! It is her absolute favorite!! Now at nine months old, she is lifting all the flaps and turning the pages. She gets so excited when I open this book. I cannot recommend it enough. The pictures are bright, the words repetitious, and the flaps sturdy -- a perfect combination for babies and toddlers! From now on, this is the book I am going to buy whenever I need to buy a baby or toddler gift. No one will be disappointed with Where's Spot!

5-0 out of 5 stars Spot Rules!
This is a great book for preschoolers. My son, who's 3, loves lifting the flaps and knows most of the books by heart. The bright colors and simple language keep younger children interested to the very end. I highly recommend this and all of Eric Hill's other Spot books!

5-0 out of 5 stars Where's Spot? ***VIDEO***
I am confused looking at the reviews here. They are all for the Spot book. The book is very good too, but the video (here on this page) is also great. I have it for my niece and also for my daughter, and am buying another copy for a baby gift for someone.

This video is great for a baby's first cartoon/TV to watch. It is not too "busy" (or too long) for babies like other cartoons can be. I noticed my daughter *really* watching it and smiling and laughing at it around four months old. And she has enjoyed it ever since (and is now 3). It's cute and simple - perfect for babies and toddlers.

With my daughter interested in Spot, it gave me time to do some dishes or read the day's mail - uninterupted! I highly recommend *ALL* the Spot videos (although the longer ones, like the Christmas one, my daugter didn't get into as much until she was about two). "Where's Spot" and "Spot at the Farm" are her favorites. And she enjoys the books too.

Also - I recommend Kipper the Dog videos too. They are also the same simple shapes/characters and sceneries and stories, just like Spot. And Maisy Mouse videos and books. I never see any babies and toddlers who don't like Spot, Kipper, and Maisy. The Baby Mozart videos are also excellent. Kids are drawn to them. None of the above are wastes of money - and they enjoy them from babyhood into toddlerhood.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Fun for Little Ones
This sturdy little book has gotten much use at our house. It became my daughter's favorite "lift-the-flap" book. The drawing style and gentle story engage children to participate in the search for little Spot the dog. Perfect for 1-3 year olds. All of Eric Hill's Spot Books are cool but this one is a real favorite. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars DECEMBER #4
I read the book wheres spot because it is a great picture book for little kids. The kids like this book because the pictures interest them and they cant wait to see whats on the next page. They like to pull the pop out thing on their own because they are so interested in it. I think it helps kids with their imagination and their senses.I enjoyed reading this book again because it reminds me of going to the kolb library when I was little and in elementary we all use to want to rent this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
We have a blast with this book. The concept is very cute...a ladybug is being munched out of her home by a snail and goes on an adventure to find a new one. He literally does...walks through the book! My two year old and four year old ask for this story consistently. Buy this one!

4-0 out of 5 stars Adorable!!!...........
.............two to four year olds will just love this book, especially if they like gardens and bugs and are inquisitive! Your youngster is sure to love traveling with this little ladybug as she slips under a rock, into a flower pot, past an ant and under a door, into a warm cat's tail and finally into her home in the leaves! The interactivity is wonderful in this book. Your child guides the little cardboard ladybug along her path and through every other page and onto the next to discover her next adventure. Should the cutout get lost, the book includes a pattern for making another. This won't likely be necessary as the plastic pocket on the front of the book seems pretty sturdy and fits the ladybug snugly.

The language in this book is quite simple and sure to be understood by very young children. Each of the eighteen pages also contain only a few lines. The illustrations are cute and each scene in the garden is quite eventful, which is sure to captivate a young mind! I'm buying this book for my four year old nephew (an avowed ladybug lover) and I think he's sure to fall in love with it!

5-0 out of 5 stars What an innovative book!
I ordered this book for my daughter's 3rd birthday and I was so pleased. She thinks this book is so much fun. She loves to insert the ladybug into the openings in the pages and then get it on the other side. And I think the illustrations are beautiful. She is always careful to put the ladybug (which is quite sturdy) back into the holder on the cover so I don't think we'll lose it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Tested for PreK to 1st Grade Enjoyment
I am a substitute teacher for elementary and preschool kids and bring this along when the class is first grade or under. I have read this to at least 100 kids and they all love it. The kindergardners I had today begged me to read it again. Its great for describing positions (over, down, etc.) and the simple plot easily creates discussion. Highly recommended. One preschool group said it was magic. :)

2-0 out of 5 stars Chunky Flap books are Great, except this one.
I have four Chunky Flap books. They are all great except for "Surprise, Thomas".

Each individual page in these books is supposed to tie into a central theme. It is a stretch to say that this book follows that pattern. This book is very disjointed. The text is grammatically awkard and fails to tie each page into the party theme.

There are even a few places where the text doesn't make sense such as when the flaps open to reveal clowns and the text says "shoes" instead of "clowns". There are shoes in the picture but I think clowns are the important part of the picture and they are what fits into the party theme.

This book is a nice size to travel with and the flaps are fun to open. However, there are much better Chunky Flap books. I would recommend getting one of those and skipping this one. "Open the Barn Door" is particularly good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprise Thomas! is a great little book
My son Tommy loves this book. Its small size is just right for him to carry it around with him as a security item, I guess. But I've read it to him so many times, and he still loves it. It's been taped and retaped due to so much handling, but that's OK with him. Lots of fun flaps which he loves to open. A great book!

This is my son's favorite book. Coaxing him to bed with the promise of reading "Truck Jam" makes a parent's job easy! He loves the big bold pictures that jump out in full detail. We usually read the book 2-3 times in a row. It's just long enough to be the perfect bed-time activity. Love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Big fun!
This is my son's favorite "comfort book". I bought it for him when he was 3 years old, and now, a year later, I'm having to buy another one--the first one has been loved to shreds. The fact that it took a year is evidence of the wonderful durability of the pop-up images! The pop-up images are both BIG and colorful, and the simple rhymes are quickly learned by heart. My son absolutely loves this book, and will "read" it to himself over and over (when he's not demanding that I read it to him!).

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Book!!
My husband and I purchased this book for our nephew this last Christmas. Since he received it he won't stop asking his mom to read it to him.
The pictures in this book are so cool and fun! I may actually buy this for my other nephew for his birthday in March.

5-0 out of 5 stars great for young boys!
my son spotted this book and wouldnt put it down! i would recommend it for anyone who knows a little boy (or girl) who is into cars and trucks. the pop ups are large, colorful, and fabulous. im going to collect the other books by the same author. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sturdy with lots of interesting pictures
My one-and-a-half year old daughter loves this book. Even though she knows what is under each flap, she still flips each flap with excitement. There lots of pictures of common items, like a ball, banana, fish, etc... so the book is helpful in teaching and reinforcing new words. The book is has many pages and keeps my daughter's attention for a long time. It is sturdy and not a single flap has torn, in spite of her constant use. A+.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great lift the flap book you'll love it!
This is one of my kids favorites, starring Elmo, Big bird, Zoe, Ernie, Grover, Grouch...It's not real long though, only about 5 pages. Great for little little ones. It has about 30 flaps.

5-0 out of 5 stars lots to do on each page
My 14 month old loves his blankie and loves Elmo. I could't have asked for a better book. He loves the flaps to open and seems surprised when he looks under each one. If your child loves Sesame Street this will hold his interest every time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Your child will learn shapes without any effort
I bought this book on a whim for our one-year old son. We kept it in the diaper bag to keep him quiet at church and other places. Just this small bit of exposure was enough that suddenly my very young son knew his shapes and identified them correctly in all sorts of contexts. I'm buying this book for my nephew and I'm getting all the other Razzle Dazzle books too. I highly recommend it!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Who's Hatching
My daughter received this book as a gift and she loved it so much, I went to amazon.com the next week and bought three more Reasoner books like it. I particularly like "Who's Mommy is This?" Eliza is 18 months now, and still loves the "sliding surprises."

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and educational book:
You read, "Who's that scratching to get out?" Then you pull the page out and out comes an alligator. Everything from a chick to a platypus is hatching in this book. The illustrations are delightful and complement the simple text. I highly recommend it to parents of young children and teachers. I used it with my kindergarten class when I taught a unit on animals that hatch from eggs. The children loved it and so did their teacher. Mr. Reasoner has a winner here! Only suggestion I might have is you might want to reinforce the top and bottom of the pages where they pull out. The children can get enthusiastic and pull too hard and pull the book apart. ... Move over, Pat the Bunny! Patting the ducklings is only one of the highlights of Matthew Van Fleet's engaging, interactive fold-out book for very young children. Every page contains an animal surprise, from the fuzzy yellow ducklings to bumpy brown frogs, fuzzy gray koalas, and more. Children will enjoy touching the different textures and identifying shapes of the seven creatures that populate the book, but it's only when the fold-up page is fully extended that all is revealed--it's not a pink line at all, but a frog tongue! At the close of the book, the animals come together in a wild revelry of shape and color. Every small child needs a beginning book like this, one where they can guess and guess again, delighting in the all the tactile wonders as well as increasing their skills in shape and color recognition. And, if this one is already on the shelf, Van Fleet's One Yellow Lion and Spotted Yellow Frogs are fun, too. (Baby to preschool) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for a newborn to age 4
This was one of the first books I bought to read to our son. Each page contains a shape and a color and a flap that opens to reveal an animal and a texture. For example the circle is filled with fuzzy yellow cotton that opens to reveal several ducklings. The textures will fascinate your child, and each time you open a flap your child will be amazed at the animals hidden beneath. This book is not meant to be read by the child as the flaps will easily rip. It is however a perfect first book for a baby, especially when the baby begins to develop eye hand coordination so that s/he can touch the textured materials. Your child may even learn the names of the shapes and the names of colors as an added bonus. This book is beautifully ilustrated and bound and will complement any young child's library. Highly highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars An instant favorite and classic
From our first read-through, this book has captured my son's attention more than any other in our collection. Each time we go through the book (every day), I find a different way to talk about each of the illustrations. The animals are depicted in such an expressive and humorous manner. We can discuss so many different things: shapes, colors, textures, numbers, species, moods (witness the grumpy, bumpy toads), actions, and more. I speak as if my son is older than his four months, but this is the sort of book that will be a definite favorite for years. I can't wait until he's explaining it to me. For now, he looks and looks while pawing at the pictures; each page occupies a full five minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Versatile Book
This book teaches so many different things. It has great textures, colors, shapes, and animals. My twin girls love it. They are 22 months now, but we bought this book when they were about 15 months. The best part for them is unfolding the pages! It seems like it wouldn't last, but ours hasn't ripped yet, and we have been pretty hard on it. It is bent up, but that's all. This is the only book that teaches so many different concepts at once. It can be confusing, but once they learn their shapes and colors, you can combine them for even more challenging fun!! I highly recommend this book for toddlers and preschoolers!!

5-0 out of 5 stars An interactive smorgasbord for babies and young toddlers!
Matthew Van Fleet's, "Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings" is a twenty-page, touch-and-feel foldout book about shapes, colors, and animals. It measures approximately 7 ½" x 6 ¼" x 1", and is constructed of heavy cardboard with medium-weight cardstock for the pages and flaps. Fortunately, the pages are sealed on ALL three sides, prohibiting toddler renovations. Accentuated by glossy, white backgrounds the watercolor illustrations are expressive, colorful, and entertaining. The text is large, black, and very basic. It begins on the left side of the book, and consists of two-word phrases such as, "Fuzzy Yellow." On the right, is a "fuzzy" yellow CIRCLE, and the word "circle" is printed next to it. The reader lifts the flap, and sees six yellow ducklings incorporated into the texture. Printed to the side, is the word "ducklings."

The book continues in the same manner with a "Bumpy" Brown TRAINGLE turning into twelve grumpy toads, a "Furry" Gray SQUARE becomes four koala bears, a "Scaly" Green OVAL turns into five playful iguanas, a "Woolly" White RECTANGLE becomes seven bashful sheep, a "Scratchy" Blue CRESCENT turns into six mischievous Sharks, and a "Sticky" Pink LINE becomes eight tongue-tied frogs. In addition, the finale is wonderful. It is a four-page, foldout uniting all of the shapes, colors, and animals together in an amusing parade of color and pattern.

"Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings" is a tactile treasure for infants and young toddlers! From the outset, this book captivates children with peek-a-boo flaps, differing textures, and beginner's text. Children adore this book, and learn by means of word recognition and sensation. One could include COUNTING as an extra feature, as we usually count the animals, and it may be the reason why the author/illustrator purposely depicted them in groups of 4,5,6,7,8, and 12. P.S. the grumpy toads are my personal favorite! I recommend this book for children one-year and up as the interactive feature, (lifting of the flaps) is too advanced for younger babies, however an infant would probably find the images, and textures captivating all the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bound to be a classic!
My son received this as a gift for his first birthday. He is a diehard Maisy fan and does not take to new books right away, but this one was an instant hit! This book teaches a number of different concepts such as shapes, colors and textures. What I especially like about this book is that it is interactive: It is a touch/feel book AND a flap book too! (There are flaps which partially obscure the animals, so all you see are shapes. Your child lifts the flaps to see what the animal is.) If your child likes touch and feel or flap books, you should definitely add this one to your book collection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My 2 year old's favorite!
This is amongst my 2 year old son's favorite books, many of which are Spot books. He can recite the entire thing. It's a cute story about Spot meeting his friends, playing with them, losing his ball in the park, and encountering a new friend who is able to retrieve the ball. We love it! Five Stars!

3-0 out of 5 stars Spot Goes to the Park
The Book is about Spot the dog. In the book he goes to the park and meets some of his friends there. Spot and his friends play with a ball, and while playing with the ball it hits someone, and it also goes into the water. The ball got them into a little trouble, but they now need to get the ball out of the water.
The book teaches you that you need to be careful when playing. The age level is about 2-4 years.

3-0 out of 5 stars not much park vocabulary
My son, almost two, likes this enough to read it, but it is not a favorite. I was disappointed because there's not much "park" vocabulary in it at all, which is what we were looking forward to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spot Goes to the Park
I am a Mommy and Me teacher, and I teach over 100 children per week ages 4 months to 4 years in my Fitness n' Play program, I read this book in my Story Time and the children just love it, I own just about every Spot book ever written, they are the greatest!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best of the Spot Lift-a-flap books.
Our daughter really enjoys the Spot Lift-a-flap books. This one, however, leaves much to be desired. The primary surprises under the flaps are dialogue - which a pre-schooler can't read. The other Spot books have pictures under the flaps. Still, we reach for these books night after night! ... Read more
