3-0 out of 5 stars Sort of ho-hum
Definitely do read this volume if you are a fiend for Star Wars comics or can manage to come across a copy for cheap. Otherwise, I think for most readers you could easily do without this book. Yes, the artwork is slightly above average and certainly easy on the eyes but aside from introducing the Jedi - Quinlan Vos to the series, the story is average at best and offers little in terms of further fleshing out the Star Wars universe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cream of the cake
Twilight is simply one of the best Star Wars comics out there, and for a good reason. Which is what you'd better have for passing over this.

The quality of art is not just excellent, it's outstanding. This is as close to three-dimensional material as there was at the time it came out---and there's more comics by the artistry team that's just as comparable. Colours are sharp, tone vibrant, texture and shadowing detailed. Illustrator Duursema shows what comics are supposed to one, and it's the cynical frog who decides to hop past her future SW works.

Dialogue is slick, Villie the Devaronian slicker still. The shifty dealer's quixotic manner of speech takes some getting used to, about as long as why he never stops grinning. Ostrander is quite adept at scripting his work and ensuring readers have just enough info; the short bio when visiting the Kiffu and Ryloth systems are particularly helpful for those unfamiliar with such locales or just to refresh memories.

Quinlin Vos takes the spotlight, a Jedi that cameos briefly in the previous comic Emissaries to Malastare. And waking up inside a burning room on the lawless environs of Nar Shardda with goons gunning for your hide, you know you have the premise of a hand-slap plot that's just too good to put down. Vos must regain his memory while partnering with a two-timing Devaronian that can be trusted as far as his sorry carcass can be thrown. The search to work out what in tarnation happened to him is only the beginning, a quest that will lead him to a sinister narcotic operation, corrupt politicians and his own apprentice, that blue-skinned Twi'lek you saw in AOTC Aayla Secura.

The very characters are creative and nothing generic. Vos looks North American native Indian, a unique appearance previously unseen in SW comics; inspired from the brief snapshot you see of him in Phantom Menace, when Selbulba threatens Binks. His Guardian heritege lets him pull psychic images off objects, quite handy for detective use. Villie is not your typical rogue either, though he gets a bit indignant when you question his loyalty. "Of course you can trust Villie. Is money involved, isn't it?"

Read those energy spiders in the Jedi Search novel? Well, see them here, as long with guest star appearances from Bib Fortuna, Mace Windu and of course Sidious himself. You also get an assortment of aliens unseen before along with the familiar.

All comics from the Ostrander-Duursema team are aptly titled: Twilight's double meaning reflects Vos's skirting the dark side as he attempts to reeducate his understanding of the Force, and the illicit business conducted on Ryloth's narrow twilight surface, where night and day exist together from a world's slow rotation.

Overall, Twilight is one of the best you can get, with better yet still to come from this pair.

5-0 out of 5 stars 48 HOURS MEETS STAR WARS
Villie does it for the money! Jedi knight Quinlan Vos (his introduction) and Villie are teamed in a story that features them and their search to find Quinlans Padawan Aayla Secura. Question is, should Quinlan trust Villie, a notorious Devaronian. This story reminds me a little of the teaming of nick nolte and eddie murphy in the movie 48 hours... and i mean that is the most complimentary way.

I have been critical of dark horse for the short cuts it has taken in the past. But here they have a solid winner. This is my current favorite comic. It was a blast to read it with my 6 year son. We have read through it 3 times. The next comic in the series is DARKNESS which also features Quinlan and Villie.

I love the star wars novels, even the child oriented ones. I started buying the comics mostly because my ADHD son needs the pictures and the action presented in the medium of a comic. This made it possible for me to share and read with him. I don't want to get sappy, but these two TPB's starring Quinlan and Villie are just what I hoped that i would find. We have enjoyed others together, but these are the best. Thankyou!!!

Word of caution about the bindings. The new production procedures that are creating such great looking comics, are also making for comics that fall apart much more easily than they used to. So... either handle with great care or never touch or read them.

2 thumbs up for the comic story and artwork. 2 thumbs down for the binding.

3-0 out of 5 stars Really good, but not long enough!
The beginning is very attractive, so are the story events, but there isn't much of the real action that makes a (Star Wars) interesting. There is also the absence of a long story line, the thing which makes me angry!
For true Star Wars fans, I suggest having this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Thrawn Trilogy Adaptations
The comic adaptations of 'Heir to the Empire' and 'Dark Force Rising' tackled the problem of adapting a 400-page novel into a 160-page comic quite well, and 'The Last Command' does it better than even those two. While the adaptations does run into inevitale problems (like in explaining Delta Source) Baron has done a truly admirable job.

First off, the art. The late Eddie Buikovic's second and last art job in the world of SW comics is even better than his one with 'The Phantom Affair'. The detail is incredibly, with gorgeous views of Coruscant, Mount Tantiss, and even Hijarna. The characters are all done very well, also. The movie cast looks just like they did on the screen and original characters like Pellaeon, Mara, Karrde, Ferrier, and so forth are done better here than in the other two adaptations. The one qualm I have with the art is that the coloring switched halfway through. Pamela Rambo's watercolor-type style worked better in the 'Dark Force Rising' adaptation, but its just doesn't fit well with Buikovic's style. Thankfully, the second half is done by Dan Brown, whose style resembles 'The Phantom Affair's masterful colorist, Dave Nestelle.

My one qualm with the art is that it's not always faithful to the 'real' SW universe. Craft like Chariot LAVs, the Golan IIIs at Bilbringi, and Ferrier's DP20 gunship don't look a thing like they 'actually' do. I'm willing to overlook it, still, because Buikovic's art made the adaptation of 'The Last Command'

That said, its a very well done adaptation that retains the spirit of the novel itself and created a gorgeous, almost cinematic, feel to it as well. Highly reccomended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool
This comic is so cool! The lettering is great, the characters do things that they would have done in the movies, and they look exactly the same. The plot is new, but it's possible. It also is faithful to Star Wars. The comic is a must read.

5-0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT!!!!!
BUY IT! The Story, Illustrations, Colouring and practically everything about this Book is Great. it wraps up Tim Zahn's trilogy ingeniously. If you are a true Star Wars fan, you wouldn't be seen without this. -Review By Violata ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Boba Fett
THis is the first book in an all new series explaining how Boba Fett became the best bounty hunter ever! The book starts in Star Wars Episode II, but tells the story from Boba Fett's point of view. When his father dies, he takes his father's helmet, ship, and guide to life. Boba first searches for his father's former employer, Count Dooku. I don't want to ruin the ending. All I can say is that the book ends in a cliffhanger. You'll want to get the next book in the series, Crossfire. It's just as good as this one was.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad if you like Boba Fett
I was dissapointed when i got the book to find it was a child's book. I read it anyway. I agree that it was poorly written even if the book's target audience was young children. I still liked reading about the background of Boba Fett's life. The story was interesting and so was finding out how Boba Fett came to be. I assume there will be more books on him since the book ends with Boba Fett at age 10. I can only assume that some of the story line came straight from Episode II. Since i am currently deployed and have not been able to see the movie. I reccomend "Tales of the Bounty Hunters" to find out what happens to Boba Fett after his apparent, and simple death on Tattoine

5-0 out of 5 stars star wars boba fett - a good book
By the title you may think that this book is just another boring copy of the Clone Wars book, but it's not! It's about what happened after the clone wars. Boba Fett goes to Count Duku who befriends him and leaves him on the filthy planet called Raxus Prime to die. But does he die? You'll have to read it to find out. I think that this book was great because the author really captures the anger and rage Boba has for the Jedi. This book is awesome and I recommend it to all the sci-fi fans and the star wars lovers out there I give this book a 10 out of 10.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ep 2 thru Bobas eyes and how he escapes.
Following the pattern of filling in details about the prequel era, this book fits in and adds new details to the live and times of the characters that we meet in Episode 2 TPM. The first 90 plus pages are the view of the events in episode 2 through 10 year old Boba Fetts eyes. We experience his feeling about the deaths of Zam and Jango. We see his live on Kamino and the battle of Geonosis as he witnessed it, included when windu Slices hi fathers head off. But then Boba is suddenly alone and must survive. The last 50 pages show how he must deal with others in his search for Count Dooku known as Tyranus to a small few.

This book takes place during the events of Ep1 and the next few days after so I have it at [money amount]on the SW timeline. The book includes the clone wars timeline that existed when it was published in April 2003. It is written for an age level of about 8 to 11 year olds which is why I can only give it 2 stars since I have children who are in there 20s. But it does contribute to the overall SW story and can be read very quickly. We learn only a little bit that is new. For a real understanding about Jango, Check out the comics because they provide a lot of details we don't learn elsewhere yet.

This book can be a nice reader for an adult to share with their children. What Lucas licensing is doing is telling the story through various media like books for children, comics, novels and the movies. Each is fitting together very nicely evidencing so excellent advance planning. I also recommend the comics from Dark horse. Though the comics are harder to read for younger children than this book, the illustrations are rich and detailed. My son prefers that I read the comics with him because he is a very visual person.

5-0 out of 5 stars Could I learn more about Boba Fett, NO!
This book is one of the best Star Wars books I've ever read. Ever since I read this book I've been interested in the bounty hunter Boba Fett. While reading these books I learned a lot about Boba and a lot of other charecters. You learn what a tough time Boba had as a child, how he became a bounty hunter, and how he got his start with Jabba the Hutt.
This first book is pretty much him and his father on their home planet of Kamino, not much happening. (until the end) This book lays out the whole trilogies plot (you Must read this one FIRST) to number's 2 and 3.
I reccomend this item if you like Star Wars, I promise that this book will delight you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Two great novels in one
For those of you looking for a great read, How To Deal is the perfect book. You will be getting two of Sarah Dessen's novels in one: Someone Like You and That Summer. The Movie How To Deal was made based on these two books. Both are wonderful reads for adolescent girls going through the pains and joys of growing up. In Someone Like You, best friends Halley and Scarlette struggle through Scarlette's pregnancy and together strive through the loss of a close friend. This book shows the blessings of a best friend, and how important it is to have someone to care about. In That Summer, Haven struggles through the pains of family life and first loves. It teaches the importance of family sticking together, and how wonderful and painful first loves can be. Both books are excellent novels and guides that every teenage girl will be able to relate to.

4-0 out of 5 stars great book, but READ THIS BEFORE ORDERING
just a warning: i ordered this book thinking that it was a new book by sarah dessen. sadly, i got it today, and it is really just two of her other books, Someone Like You and That Summer, put into one book. The reason for the different title is because they have combined these two books into one movie called How to Deal, starring Mandy Moore. I have read both novels seperately, and they are great, especially someone like you, so if you haven't read them, this book would be a good thing for you to purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teenagers Lives in a Nutshell
This book deals with all the things that happen to teenagers during there high school years from the death of a friend to your parents getting divorced and your best friend getting pregnant. It is the perfect book for any teenager it makes you relize that your friends mean a lot to you and if anything were to happen to them you would be devastated for life and that the years you spend in high school will define the rest of your life one mistake can shatter your life into pieces. Anyone who has ever been in high school can relate to at least one problem that the charactors face your would have to have been home schooled if you don't because everyone has had a friend die or get pregnant or maybe a divorce happens but you learn through time how to deal with all the problems that you are faced with. I hope that everyone enjoys this book as much as I did the movie is good but the books are better as always.

4-0 out of 5 stars What a good book!!!
I took this book out of the public library a month ago for a bit of light reading. I had heard through some people at school that Mandy Moore was doing a movie called How to Deal, so when I saw the book I had to pick it up! I thought that the first section was better than the second section, becuase it delt more with sad teen issues rather than just divorce issues. I no sooner finished reading the novel, and then I ran out to my local "Chapers" book store, and bought 3 copies- one for me, and the other ones for two of my friends! It is a good book and I would recomend it to anybody who likes sweet sentimental books that deal with teen issues!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars How To Deal
This book is actually two different books that are put into one volume. The first book, Someone Like You, is AMAZING and I couldn't put it down. However, the second book, That Summer, was boring and I only read it when I was trying to get out of cleaning my room. If I were you, I wouldn't waste my money and I would just buy Someone Like You. I gave this book 4 star because Someone Like You is one of the best books I've ever read, but I don't like That Summer at all. Is anyone else confused on how they made a movie out of these books? ... Who can resist feeling cheerful when envisioning Julie Andrews singing "My Favorite Things" to her young charges in The Sound of Music? In fact, this song by the incredibly successful, award-winning (34 Tony Awards, 15 Academy Awards, 2 Pulitzer Prizes, 2 Grammy Awards, and an Emmy Award) musical team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II has become as familiar as any nursery rhyme to many children during the more than 40 years since it was written. And now, with the warm, cozy illustrations by Renée Graef (illustrator of E.T.A. Hoffman's The Nutcracker, adapted by Janet Schulman), children can enjoy the delicious images and lilting notes of the classic song any time. Each illustration is framed with a folksy rustic border, and portrays a happy family in an idyllic rural setting enjoying "raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens" and "doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles" all year round. And if the raindrops on roses look ever so faintly like aphids, well, the "bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens" on the following page should more than make up for it. Naturally, the book comes complete with the score of "My Favorite Things," so families can sing or play along to their hearts' content. (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My girls & I all LOVE this book they are 2 & 4 and I am 38!
Illustrations are like soft memories and evoke warm thoughts of childhood and this song.I believe this book works VERY well for young and older children.I love the sublty of imagery in clouds at end of book when children are staring up at sky imagining "favorite things".Both my two and 4 year old can sing this song now.Words and music are included in back to make this a BONUS for anyone musically inclined.A must have for anyone who likes the song!

5-0 out of 5 stars Add This To Your List of Favorite Things
I discovered this book only a few days after watching a rerun of the wonderful movie "The Sound of Music."This book really enhances the beautiful lyrics of the song from that movie called "My Favorite Things" with lovely, heartfelt illustrations filled with nostalgia and the innocence of children. The colors glow with soft light and scenes are either set in cozy, homey environments or in serene natural settings. The lyrics and music are printed at the back of the book so you can play it on the piano for your children or just sing it to them as you go along. My children are all grown up and no grandkids yet, so I know from experience that it's quite alright to sing it to yourself, too! This is a delightful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to read, Fun to sing
I'm a mom of few known lullabys. This song I knew and sang it to my infant daughter many times in the middle of the night. I was delighted to find this book. I love to sing the song as we page through the lovely illustrations. My daughter always relates to when 'the bee stings' and the girl is sad and getting a hug from Mom. This is a book I can read more than once, even after a busy day in toddlerhood. My daughter is starting to sing the song on her own now, which is adorable and rewarding. My husband likes this book too.

5-0 out of 5 stars These are a few of my favorite things
This is a beautifully illustrated book that not only enriches, but brings to life, the magic of this Roger's and Hammerstein's song without being sentimental or sugary sweet. I would recommend this book for any one that loves simplicity. ... Read more

Book Description

"We have buried the putrid corpse of liberty."
-- Benito Mussolini

It's not like I'm surprised my mom picked the Mussolini quote for her wedding invitation. She's never been what one would call "conventional." I was a little surprised (but happy) when she agreed to marry my English teacher, Max Medina. Which makes my summer even busier -- with my classes at Chilton, the wedding planning, and, as Paris so efficiently pointed out, about ten years of extracurricular activities to catch up on, it makes me wonder: whatever happened to the good ol' days of summer loving, had me a blast?

4-0 out of 5 stars The same spirit of the show...
I usually like to read books that are exciting and unexpected; things that you NEVER know would happen.

I pretty much blew all those things away by reading the Gilmore Girls series. I've seen all the shows (no kidding- my friends and I should form a club... or perhaps a cult) and NOTHING is a surprise any more. Max Medina? Old news.

But... there is a shortage of Gilmore Girls reruns where I live. And reading the book is almost exactly like seeing the show... you can practically hear Rory and Lorelai talking as you read the dialogue...

If you're a Gilmore fan, get the book. Makes you understand just a bit more... but if you haven't seen the show, I wouldn't recommend it. See the show, THEN read the book.

But even I'M not sure if the Cheshire Cat's horror can properly be conveyed through a book. Seeing is believing. :)

why would anyone read these books when he/she could just watch the show? we already know what's going to happen....

In this Gilmore Girls book, Lorelai and Max are ready to marry. But then Lorelai starts to get cold feet. Her and Rory get in the car and drive to who knows where, until they end up at a B&B. They have to stop even though they both hate B&B's. While there, Lorelai and Rory make a surprise trip to Harvard University, the Ivy League College that Rory hope to attend. What will happen in teh next chapter of the Gilmore Girls' lives? Read "I Do, Don't I", to find out.

He found a crystal falling from a comet he discovered, and it's sort of draining his life force. 4. In a thousand years, Artemis-another cat advisor-and Luna live in Crystal Tokyo with their daughter Diana. If Luna doesn't stick with Artemis, Diana won't exist. 5. Princess Snow Kaguya is trying to freeze the Earth.
Not your average love triangle, is it?
There's also a great bonus story at the end about Hino Rei, Sailor Mars. It happens when the senshi were first finding each other, and it really helps you get a better look at Rei's personality. I love Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Almost Cried
This was so beautiful! TWO romance stories in one book! ^.^ If you loved the Sailormoon S movie and/or were a bit saddened by the fact that Himeko and Kakeru didn't get too much attention (HEY! *I* was!) then you will LOVE this book! I'm very grateful to Takeuchi-san for the loveliness of Himeko and Kakeru' I love them together! *dreamy sigh* There's more Outer Senshi content, for you Outer Senshi fans. The second story, Casablanca Memory, is also very beautiful. It takes place early in the first season and it's a Rei story. Both are great. Takeuchi-san's comments are cute. ^.^ You most probably won't regret purchasing it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Seperate Sailormoon Masterpiece
In my opinion, this is the best Sailormoon book Takeuchi did. I love Stars and all the other series, but this one was just in another field of excellence.

It begins with the manga version that was eventually turned into the S movie. It has more detail and less action scenes than the movie did, which I think is better. It concentrates a lot more on the Luna/Kakeru aspect than the fact that Princess Kaguya (what Kakeru named the enemy) is trying to freeze Earth. The two aspects of it fit together nicely though. The only problem I had with it was that they were having a birthday party for Makoko (Lita) and Mina, whose birthdays are over a month apart.

The other part is a backstory about Rei. This is what got me immediately hooked to this manga and made me read it again and again. It happens before they meet Minako (meaning I guess they didn't meet her till after April). It has Usagi (Bunny) and Ami meeting Rei as she gets a birthday gift from a guy who has a crush on her. They get her a popular music box and find out she has a dinner with her father. It turns out that Rei's mother died, and because her father was in politics, she decided to move in with her grandfather. Rei and her father's assisstant (and possible successor) are supposedly "kindred spirits". I don't want to give away the ending, but just know that it is BEAUTIFUL and you will want to read it over and over again. Its a nice backstory on Rei, and I, who had prefered anime Rei over her manga counterpart, had a great deal more respect for her.

I hope you'll take a look at this manga and consider buying it, it's definitely worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming
This book has love, comedy, and action all entwined together in one story. I love how it has Luna as the main character and how it shows no matter who you are you can always fall in love. And just because you're diffrent it does'nt mean you don't have a chance at love. Also the story about Rei in the back is so sad and sweet it made me cry.

4-0 out of 5 stars Luna's True Love- or: "A Better SM S Movie!"
First of all I would like to apologize for my opinion of SuperS 2. Yes, I disliked it, but it is my opinion! I refuse to give every book a 5 just because it is Sailor Moon! Now, on to Book 11. First off, before you open it- this book is seperate from the others. If you have a good understanding of who ALL the scouts are, even if you did not read Books 1-10, this is one of the rare books where you will understand the plot. And for those of you who have not read SuperS 4, that IS Luna on the cover. Now, on to the content. Have you seen the Sailor Moon S movie? (For those of you who read my DVD reviews, you know S is my fave season!)This is the same plot, only in book format and 10 times better! There is not enough space to review the last 1/3 of the book, but it is a short story about Rei. For Mars fans, you will love it. (By the way, I may be only 12, but I know my anime and manga. I have been a SM fan even before its US release.) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I like it a lot!!!
It's a good book. I like the adventure they have. Some parts are very exciting. I like the pictures. They are awesome! Good reading level for me (I am 7 years old). Pokemon is one of my favorite things. That's why I liked the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very unusual
I just wanted to say that this book is one of the most unusual Pokemon books ever written. Basically, Pikachu, along with most of Ash's other Pokemon, get stranded on a desert island where they meet Pokemon that are ten times bigger than they would normally be. Not only that, when the Pokemon speak in this episode, there are subtitles so we can understand them. This is the first time we get to find out what the Pokemon are saying. We get to see things from their point of view, and that is what makes this book so interesting. I think this is a book that just about every kid will enjoy, whether he or she likes Pokemon or not.

3-0 out of 5 stars Excelent story For Teens and Older
The story takes place in Germany and in the U.S.A. but mostly in Germany. There are two boys one 17 and one 15 Spence is 15 and Dieter is 17. They both are in World War 2. One is in the Nazis and another is an American paratrooper. They go through hard times and think, " this is not the war we had in mind" Because there is no fighting going on.

Then they have a small war in a forest where they can only trees and they all look alike. Dieter (the Hitler youth instructor) is shot and Spence trys to help him out and gets shot by dieters friends to help him and is rough with him.

The reason I gave this book 3 stars is it had bad grammar and words misspelled but it is fun to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars lost island
The story is about Ash and his friends go on the s.s Anne for a Pokemon cruise. The guy said some body battle me.Ash said I would .Ash won the battle . Then he asked do you want to trade Pokemon with me. He said o.k. the guy took him to the special room where you trade pokemon. Then team rocket came and wanted to battle ash. So he did. Then the ship started to sink in the ocean.Ash said I want my Pokemon back. The guy took him back to the room to trade back pokemon. Then all of a sudden The boat started to sink. They all were at the bottom of the ocean.Ash said how are we going to get out of here.Mistey said we can use are Pokemon to get us out of here.So they helped them get out of there.Team rocket used there only Pokemon magikarp.James said I don't want you any more.He let it go.Then it evolved to a Gyarados. Then he used dragon rage. They all got trapped in it. Then they woke up on the island. They couldn't find there pokemon. So they went looking for them.At night they saw the three birds that were very rare. They had to run a way from the birds so they wouldent get hurt.Ash Found his Pokemon when they were running from the birds. They got in the cart. The Pokemon were running for the cart with there owner in it.They were saved by the people on the other side of the Island. At the end of the day they said that they couldn't wait until the next adventure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!!!
This was an exciting book because they were trapped on a ship and nobody knew what was going to happen, they were stuck on Pokemon Island. They saw 2 legendary birds and they got off after a long time, it was really good!! ... Read more

But i can tell you this....they get back together in the end. Lorelai wants Rory to wallow beacuse that's what every girl should do after their first break up. But Rory is not every girl. Rory then decides to go to a Chilton party and something very interesting happends. Find out what happens in this wonderfully funny Gilmore Girl novel.

I Hope You Enjoy It!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is a great book for people young and old. I haven't picked up a book since high school which was three years ago and these books have me going, there's no putting it down!! If you all have seen the TV show which most of you have the book, is very similar to the episodes but told in Rory's point of view. I recommend this book and all Gilmore Girls books to every reader who has a big heart and can relate to a mother daughter relation ship like Rory and Lorelai or like Lorelai and Emily or just need some heartfelt reading to do!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable reading
I love the witty dialog of the TV show and this book is the literary version of the show. Great writing. Great Dialog. Great characters. This book is for grown-up readers also.

I loved reading the part where Lorelai tries to get Rory to "wallow" after a breakup. Rory would rather handle the problem by making a list and getting things done -- which she does -- mother Lorelai does get her to open up and release the hurt in a more indulgent way too. This should be required reading for all teenaged girls. ... Read more

This was my daughter's first Dora book, which we received as a gift for her first birthday, before either of us even knew who "Dora" is. Book Description

Terror-filled eyes. Lungs choked with water. A pounding heartbeat.
For Sydney Bristow, it’s a typical day in her not-so-typical after-school job–she’s an agent for SD-6, a top-secret division of the CIA. Or so she thinks.

This prequel is the first in a new series based on the smash ABC show Alias–it’s Sydney’s life before she discovers she’s working for the bad guys, juxtaposing normal college life against her fabulous exploits as a working spy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fans of the TV series will LOVE reading this book!!
The book Alias: Recruited is just as enjoyable as watching the TV series that the book is based on. The book is about a college student named Sydney Bristow, a freshman at UCLA. College was suppose to be a new beginning for Sydney, a chance to begin a new life of her own. Sydney finds that college life is not at all what she thought it would be its even BETTER......

I found the book was better than expected because it had small changes from that of the TV series. By making these changes the fans of the show will be turning the pages to find out what happens next. This is a must read for those who enjoy reading books with action, drama and spies. And for those who never seen the TV series will start to watch after reading this book!

2-0 out of 5 stars Juvenile...very juvenile.
I got Alias Recruited for free when I bought the DVD locally, but I must say that I'm glad I didn't actually shell out any money to buy it. The novel is written at what has to be an elementary-school reading level, yet it still contains some material that are aimed more towards middle-school or junior high kids. The older you are, the more you are going to roll your eyes. The book itself wasn't THAT bad. It's a very fast read. I read it in an hour, personally. True, it is fun for Alias fans to read, but it does have some plot inconsistencies with the show, which makes me wonder just how much effort was put into researching or writing this thing. It's not terrible, but I suggest that you check the book out at the library before deciding whether to buy it or not. I guess it depends. Personally, I think the show would do a lot better if they tried to market books for older readers. Frankly, I have found that Alias fans tend to be much more intelligent than what this book is aiming for. Your call...

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun Look at Younger Sydney
This book answers the how, where and why questions of Sydney's recruitment into SD-6, so is great backstory for hard core Alias fans like myself. The writing was ok, but could be better, and would probably not be of any interest to those who are not fans of the TV series. I was disappointed that the book did not go into what is alluded to in later installments, that Sydney had know Arvin Sloan before this meeting.

2-0 out of 5 stars Interesting idea, but writing is meh (2.5 stars)
I must admit, I went into these books knowing they would not be of any superior quality. They are a YA series coming out fairly frequently which basically equates to average or less than average writing. Sadly, that did not stop me from reading them. I fear I just needed more of Sydney to keep my weekdays livable.

Seriously, the whole concept was great. If more care was made with the writing quality, then these could have been awesome to all Alias fans. The storylines are intriguing, the characters as we loved them, especially Francie, are there in full force, and we can get an idea of Sydney's original mindset working for what she thought was Uncle Sam.

BUT, and I say but because this really ruined the books for me; the timeline is so far off I couldn't bear to read some of it. It puts Sydney's first year talking about dot-com millionaires losing money, which is totally insane as the show started in 2001, when Sydney had been in SD-6 for several years. Dot-com millionaires would not have been much talk over 5 years before, since there weren't any. There were other time problems as well, which set the book at least in the very late 90's.

So, if you are obsessed with Alias, want a backstory, and don't mind poor writing and skewed timelines, then read the books. Otherwise, just don't. But buying them is not really worth it. Get them out from the library; it won't cost you anything, and if you don't like them, you won't have wasted your money.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Recruit
Well, it was an OK presequel to the Alias TV show. If you like the show and your a rabit fan like I am you will be a little disappointed in this book. One big beef I have with the writer of this book is the total disregard that she had a long time family relationship with Arvin Sloane. In watching the TV show you know Arvin and Emily practically raised her because Jake was a drunk after "Laura" died. So, I find it a bit hard to believe the whole bit in the book that she never knew Sloane until that meeting at HQ. It does one good thing it explains how she met Noah Hicks. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a good book
I bought this book a little after Christmas because I found myself loving the movie. Thinking the book would be better (because all books are better!) I read it. I was totally wrong. True, the book is good, but 1. Galleria (or Deborah Gregory, the author) CANNOT write good songs. I'm sorry, she can't. They are very poorly written and if I sat down and thought I could think of something better. 2. The lingo is also very immature and hard to understand. Otherwise, the plot is good and the characters are good.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Cheetah Girls
This book is wonderful though sometimes it is hard to understand. Thankfully Ms. Gregory included a glossary so those of us who don't understand Galleria and her friend's language can keep up. Something that I especially like about this book is the fact that it is different from the movie thought there are some scenes that are the same. It's boring to read a book that is word for word the same as the movie I just watched last night. Go Cheetahs!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book EVER!!
Hey i'm courtney(...).My big sister bought this book for me after i watched the movie and i loved all for stories. The book is about 5 girls who dream about being singing sensations. If you wanna be a singer you MUST read this book NOW!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A book for girls with singing dreams
The Cheetah Girls is an amazingly written story about five girls with the common but amazing dream to become singers. Galleria, who is kind of the leader of the group, is a great singer. She is the leader Cheetah because she writes some of the songs.
Chanel, also known as Chuchie or Miss Chuchie Frita, is Galleria's best friend. She is a great singer too, and is sometimes jelous of Galleria because she is the leader.
Anginette and Aquanette are twin sisters. They are the best singers in the group and are trying to get used to New York City.
Dorinda is a foster child who is the best dancer in the entire group. She is a very caring girl and I think she just might have gone through the most in this story.
This book is a book for girls with singing dreams. It will inspire girls all around to never give up. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice story about Bobas first meeting with Jabba
These stories are written for 8 to 12 year olds, and 50 somethings who are star wars nuts like me. The 3 star is for the genre, as it seems to be of average quality to the other young persons books I have read and enjoyed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fair story good artwork
Kevin J anderson wrote one of my favorite sets of SW novels, The Jedi Academy. This comic picks up after that trilogy, and now Kip is a student. The story was a little below what i hoped for so I rate it 2 stars, but I really liked the pencils, inking and general production quality of this comic, giving it 4 stars for a final rating of 3 stars.

The best part of the story was the inclusion of the many characters we have only read about, Kyp, Kirana Ti, Tionne, Streen, Dorsk 82, Luke and Leia.

1-0 out of 5 stars As Bad As It Gets
1) This is the thinnest plot I have ever seen. It's like they called Kevin J, said "Hey, we want a comic related to the Jedi Academy, but we need the whole script in five minutes" and this is what they got. Nothing is ever explained, nothing makes sense, the characters repeat themselves constantly, and the whole point seems to be to make Dorsk 82, who never really shows up again anywhere else as far as I know, feel good about himself. And I'm not even sure he does that!
2) Luke looks like He-Man on a bad day, and I originally thought Leia was some totally new character. Does Dorsk 82 have to be drawn *shaking* in every frame? Why must everyone have spit lines between his teeth? The art in this comic is rock-bottom awful.

2-0 out of 5 stars This You May Miss
This specific collection of chapters that form, "Leviathan", is one of the weaker installments from Dark Horse that I have read. The two key elements that are critical, a good story, and good illustrations are glaringly absent.

I generally don't enjoy when artists take great liberty with the appearance of characters that have been solidly established for nearly three decades. A way to get by this fault is to offer readers a great story, however this does not happen here. Luke starts the story by musing to himself about nothing of great importance, and this is followed by a task for his newest Jedi Knights that is vague and one dimensional. A planet appears to suffer total destruction on a fairly regular basis, and even though this is documented, new colonists keep coming back for more. For some unknown reason nobody ever catches on that this planet is a less than hospitable spot, and invariably the cause of destruction is routinely disturbed.

The only other consistent theme is how unsuited Kyp is as a Jedi, and how hopeless he would be as a Jedi Master. His treatment of a new potentially force sensitive recruit is hopelessly inept and abrasive. When the central conflict does arrive it is terribly predictable and not worthy of the material Dark Horse generally offers. It is rare when a written installment of this saga does not offer any new insight, however this one is nearly vacant.

1-0 out of 5 stars Is this Star Wars?
It seemed more like Alien to me. It a good 'monster'-type story, despite Anderson's horrendously forced dialogue. But it has almost no elements of Star Wars, some bordering on the line of obscenely un-Star Wars-ish. My biggest complain may be regarding Dorsk 82. The idea behind him was by no means bad, but Anderson's writing turns him into an annoying, craven fool. Sometimes I wished that Leviathan would just step on him and put the reader out of his or her misery.

The art's good, although once again, not Star Wars-ish. It worked far better in the 'Tales of the Jedi' series than in the modern SW universe.

You wants real 'Star Wars' comics, see something like the X-wing Rogue Squadron comics, especially 'In the Empire's Service' and 'Mandatory Retirement'. You want a story transplanted to the SW universe, read this. I'm grading this as a Star Wars comic, and as a Star Wars comic its just plain bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Well Scripted
I picked this up since I am an Anderson fan and I was greatly pleased with everything- from the fight/battle scenes to the wonderous scripted speaking. All the characters are very well drawn and were presented in an exotic fashion. If you like the Jedi Academy novels, then you'll most likely enjoy this! ... Read more
