4-0 out of 5 stars Wee Sing is Pretty Darn Good for Kiddie Music...
Children's Songs and Fingerplays is my 2 1/2 year old son's favorite, and one I enjoy a lot, too. It is a collection of the classics I had forgotten (in my young mother sleep-deprived state). The songs are in the original version I remember (not Barney-ized!) The collection encourages dance and fingerplays so it is good rainy-day fun. Although the music is not acoustic, the synthesizer is not so obvious and the music is pretty good--not at all grating on the nerves of exhausted parents. The children's voices are what grab the attention--they are really good. My son inadvertantly ruined his cassette so we are trying to replace it with the CD...Amazon, hurry up and replenish your stock!

5-0 out of 5 stars Brain Food for Toddlers, Respite for Parents
Our 2 year old daughter requested this tape so often that we wore it out! She is quite the vocalist now, breaking out into the Alphabet Song, This Old Man, Mary had a Little Lamb, and other fun songs at the most amusing times. She knows every song by heart and delights in doing the finger plays. This tape has been a lifesaver on long trips and short. The first thing she says when we get in the car is "Mommy. Please play Julie's music?" We had tried many other children's tapes, but this one is hands down the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well, we sing
Our youngest daughter of 6 years old loves to sing this tape with the book in front of her nearly every day and her older brother (7) and sister (9) are singeing with her in all glorie. They are learning so much from it. Some titles of the รก 60 songs are; Clap your hands (fingerplay), Hickory Dickory Dock, This old man, Old macdonald had a farm, ten little fingers and the Alphabeth song. I listened to some other children songs, but this is far the best. We've got also bible songs, mmm not so good as this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Have a child.... Get this set! (Cassette and book)
Wonderful collection of nursery Rhymes and lullabies. Includes the old favorites as well as a few I had not even heard of. The voices used are very soothing. I enjoy it. My eight year old enjoys it. And my 9 month old enjoys it. When nothing else seems to be able to calm my infant down for sleep, this works wonders. Great for family time before bed. Times that I am sure my children will remember when they grow up and want to continue with their children. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! What an incredible collection!
Looking for ideas for things to do with your baby or toddler? Look no further. This is an awesome collection of songs, fingerplays, bouncing games, nursery rhymes, and lullabies. It comes with a CD/cassette and book that contains the complete text as well as directions for how to do each game or fingerplay, with separate instructions for baby and toddler. Of course, all the traditionals are here- "Pat-A-Cake", "Ride a Little Pony", "This Little Piggy", "Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes", etc.- but there are many, many more that I had never heard of before and that have quickly become favorites with my baby. There are songs and rhymes for bathtime, for bouncing, for teaching baby the parts of the body, clothing, animal names and sounds, etc. etc. This is a truly amazing resource for encouraging your baby's language development and motor skills, as well as parent-child bonding. There are enough games to occupy your baby all day long!
Once it's bedtime, there are about 15 or so beautifully sung lullabies, all of which I have since learned by heart and sing to my baby all the time. Again, the lullabies include both traditionals like "Brahms Lullaby", "Rock a Bye Baby", "Hush Little Baby" as well as many I've never heard of before (e.g., "White Sheep", "Mother Goose's Lullaby", "Raisins and Almonds")
I've purchased several other infant development books, but this is the only one that gets consistent use every day. Best of all, it's a true bargain for the amount of material you get.

5-0 out of 5 stars A true delight!
This audiocassette of songs and finger plays for little ones is absolutely precious. The voices of the young singers captivate my 18 month old twins, and are equally engaging for parents. The enclosed book with lyrics and hand motions to the songs is a terrific bonus. We have such fun acting out the songs together and encouraging our boys to imitate our hand gestures. I recommend it highly for interactive play with babies and toddlers. This would make a great shower gift! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock Star Babies!
These books are so cute. There are several of them in the series. They use the lyrics from popular Motown songs with pictures of various happy babies.

The books are heavy cardboard so if you have a child that is just at the point of trying to turn the pages by themselves they won't rip the pages. They are also well sized for little hands.

The babies are a multicultural lot with both mommies and daddies represented so chances are you will find babies, and parents, that look just like you.

And since the words are really song lyrics they are easily sung or spoke in a rhythm that children should like.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too cute! Gotta sing along!
Perfect book for both my girls! The baby is biracial and it's so hard to find anything that isn't all blonde hair and blue eyes! These books are cute, fun and we all know the words! Only complaint: HARD TO FIND! Even here, unless you know what you are looking for! But worth the search! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the original
I bought this collection for my little one because I really loved it when I was her age. Although the songs are all the same, I was disappointed to discover that the singers and arrangements have changed. Some of the new voices are so annoying and caricature-like that it's difficult to sing along. I wish they would have just re-released the original! My daughter seems to like "Veggie Tales" and "Not for Kids Only" much better.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Selection of Silly Songs
My Sister and I when we were little used to love to sing along with Books and Tapes in the Wee Sing Series, especially this one, because we have always loved to laugh. The Wee Sing books and tapes will take children into a world of fun, they can learn wonderful things from these tapes. However, it never has to seem like learning. That's part of the magic. For on these recorded tours, your childrens tourguides are singers and actors. If you have children be sure to buy this tape you'll laugh your head off with them. My sister and I eventually outgrew these tapes, but I kept them, even copied them onto blank audiotapes so I could give them as gifts to people who have children. Now if only Pam Beall and Susan Nipp could make a sequel to this one and call it Wee Sing More Silly Songs. ... Read more

Book Description

To ev'rything
there is a season
and a time
for ev'ry purpose
under heaven.

For thousands of years Ecclesiastes' beautiful words have inspired and given solace to people all over the world.

Pete Seeger was so moved by these words that he set the psalm to music and added a refrain and a line of his own. "Turn! Turn! Turn!" was recorded in 1962 by the Byrds. You can still hear the song on the radio today -- more than forty years later.

Now Wendy Anderson Halperin lends her talent and artistic vision to the famous song, creating a book like no other. Wendy's art invites you to turn, turn, turn the pages and investigate all the different ways people live and laugh, love and mourn, and the ways in which war and peace affect humanity.

It's your turn now, to read the words of Ecclesiastes, listen to Pete Seeger's music, gaze at Wendy Anderson Halperin's illustrations, and contemplate what being human is all about. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The story of America's Pied Piper of Classical Music
The cover cartoon of Mike Venezia's look at Leonard Bernstein for the Getting to Know the World's Greatest Composers has the subject playing the piano, composing, conducting, writing a book, and putting on a TV series for kids. That last one is how most of my generation probably first encountered Bernstein, whose "Young People's Concerts" did more to promote classical music in this country than anything else in our lifetime. Eventually, once Bernstein explained to us what was happening in a Beethoven symphony we learned that this man could not only teach us about great music he could also write some as well. Eventually, if our lessons in music appreciation continued, we would understand why he was also a dynamic conductor.

Of course Venezia provides an entertaining biography of Bernstein, which combines basic biographical information with career highlights and a half-dozen entertaining cartoons. Venezia also names some of Bernstein's greatest compositions, such as the scores for "West Side Story" and "Candide," and urges his young readers to seek out this music as well as the videos of Bernstein's lecture-concerts for young people that are still available on videotape. Reading about Bernstein or any other composer without being exposed to the music is just flat out wrong. There are several excellent "hits" collections of Bernstein's work as well as Broadway cast albums and film soundtracks that can bring his music alive for young students. I have also believed for a long time that nobody did a better job of conducting Beethoven's symphonies than Bernstein. Other volumes in the Getting to Know the World's Greatest Composers series look at the likes of not only Mozart and Tchaikovsky, but also Gershwin and the Beatles. However, this is the best volume I have read in this series to date. ... Read more

This curious little picture book sets out to accomplish the odd--butsurprisingly worthwhile--task of assembling some classic Rodgers & Hammersteinlyrics into a kid-friendly, sing-along format.

Getting to Know You! samples songs from some of the Broadway duo'sbetter-known musicals (Oklahoma! , Carousel, South Pacific, and The King and I), acting them out with a cast of cute animalsplayfully illustrated by Rosemary Wells (Max's Bath, etc.). You mightneed to hit the video store to recall the tune to a few of these (likeOklahoma!'s "Farmer and the Cowman"), but most of the 16 songs--from "Oh,What a Beautiful Mornin'" to "Some Enchanted Evening"--should be memorableenough to get you singing within the first few words. For the rest, Gettingto Know You! even includes a staple-bound songbook tucked into the backcover, which includes sheet music and complete lyrics for all the songs.

Given that Rodgers & Hammerstein won countless awards for their musicals(including two Pulitzers and armfuls of Tonys, Grammys, Emmys, and Oscars),maybe it's not so surprising that the lyrics adapt well into any format. Ifnothing else, it's hard to argue with any book that can get your kid beltingout, "I'm gonna wash that man right outa my hair!" (Ages 4 to 8) --PaulHughes ... Read more

Book Description

Even as a kid, Alicia knew music was in her heart. Fortunately, she grew up in New York City, a place offering everything from free concerts in Central Park to the background music of street and subway performers. She had the chance to take advantage of the culture the city provided as well as its quality education. At 12 years old, she auditioned and was accepted to the Professional Performing Arts School. For Alicia, the school was an artistic playground. Soon, she was on her way to her first recording contract.

After disagreements with Columbia Records, Alicia was able to record her music, her own way, for Clive Davis and his newly formed J Records. Her debut album, Songs in A Minor, along with her hit single, Fallin’, have put Alicia in the winner’s circle with 5 Grammy Awards. Her second album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, became a triple platinum album. ... Read more
