5-0 out of 5 stars "Can't Go Wrong With Little Critter"
We are huge fans of Little Critter, so I knew we couldn't go wrong with The New Potty. The story contains typical elements found in many potty books: introduction to the new potty, playing with the new potty, accidents, transition to underpants, and eventual success. What sets all Mayer books apart? The critters talk and act like real life children. And the illustrations are a hoot! Such as the look of terror on Little's Sisters face when greeted with the pink "Critter Potty." Or Little Critter hollering for Mom when his sister misses the potty and almost wets his foot. And that pet mouse...

We have read almost every potty book available on the market as of 9/2003 (over two dozen!). Most fit into two categories: INSTRUCTIONAL books that introduce the skills needed to master the potty; and those that are primarily ENTERTAINING, for children who understand what is supposed to happen on the potty, but need extra time to make it happen. This book contains a little instruction and a lot of entertainment. Try it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Worried That Your Child Will Never Use the Toilett?
We bought this book as well as several other books, when we noticed our child wasn't buying into our advice about how convenient it is for him as well as his parents that he use the toilett, we resorted to this method and it seemed to work all by itself with little influence from the adults. We simply sat down and read it to him and voila.. it worked. I have no idea which book hat the most influence but this was one of them.

3-0 out of 5 stars i think i memorized it ?
This book is short and sweet. My girl still loves it many years after she trained. It is cute and kinda is more for girls. Is there one like it for boy's from Mercer Mayer? The sand box accident is her favorite or was it the accident when brother helped? I liked it when mom was doing laundry and she asked brother to take sister to the potty? The look on his face !

5-0 out of 5 stars The New Potty
What a great learning tool! My daughter loves this book. She is successfully potty trained! Yeepee! This book describes everything, even the time when purchasing the potty chair. It even describes "accidents", which let her know that they will happen and that it is OK. I love the way the entire family helps with the potty training. This will be very helpful when my younger child starts potty training! Great book! Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars The New Potty a Kid Favorite
My son loves this book! We actually now have two - one for home and one when he travels to the sitter or grandparents' house, etc. The picures are colorful and attract your immediately. The story is simple and gets the whole family involved in the potty training process. It is very positive and easy to understand so little ones can follow the meaning. I (and my son) highly recommend it. My son feels it is a 'must read' when going to the potty. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's a success, but why?
This book is a favorite of my 20 month old son's because of the pictures as well as the manner in which I read it, emphasizing how silly it is to use the potty as a toy box, hat, etc. However, it is unclear to me whether he is actually getting the point of the book, or if he just likes the pictures and the way I read it. I think most potty books for boys will fall short to a degree because none are daring enough to show anatomy or discuss the standing vs. sitting issues. However, having a few of these books around can only help and certainly can't hurt. I will say that in comparison to our other potty book which has more detail regarding the process as well as cute drawings, it does not hold my son's attention the way this one does.

2-0 out of 5 stars An okay book, but not great.
My son does love this book, but as far as its purpose goes, it falls far short of expectations. There is almost no focus on the purpose of a potty at all. I had hoped that the photographs would be helpful, but they are very cute, posed, and lack the body parts involved in the actual process of using the toilet. There is only one page that even mentions the prohibited bodily functions. I don't enjoy the choice of wording, and it feels like a cheap attempt by a publishing company to get a book out of as few pictures and words as possible. Inexpensive to make, yes, but helpful to toilet-training parents? An emphatic no.

5-0 out of 5 stars We're just beginning.
I'm just beginning to talk about potties with my 17 month old. I want to take it really slow because family members have had a very hard time training their children. He loves this book. We read it over and over. I bought a potty chair and now he enjoys sitting on it and is becoming more aware of what he's doing, if you know what I'm saying. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A family favorite!!
This was the first of the many Robert Munsch books I have given my grandchildren. It remains our favorite of all! Children love humor about things they think are a bit taboo (don't we all?) and this delightful and very true to life story never fails to bring gales of laughter to both the girls and me. My personal favorite line is from grandma. "I never had this problem with my children."

For adults it really brings back memories of those time consuming snowsuit dressing days, potty stops in the middle of nowhere, and so much more!

Potty training isn't a crisis and it certainly isn't a scandal. Robert Munsch shows us it's ok to lighten up and laugh about real life!

4-0 out of 5 stars i have to go!
I think "I have to go" is a good book and a lot of kids could probably relate to it when they were little. It is a good book for kids and a funny one. My reading buddie is in kindergartenand he loved the book!I like it when he says "i have to go pee, and grandpa, do you have t go pee, well so do I!"I like it when robert munsch ... tells the stories. He says it with a lot of excitement and enjoyment. He is a good role model for kids and adults, and a great story teller. I would recomend this book to parents with their 1st child so they know what to expect!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Potty Training Success Story!!
A wonderful, humorous way to present a subject which is much talked about but remains to be one of life's mysteries. How does one go about potty training? Our seven year old child with special needs became potty trained after I purchased this book(as recommended by a friend). We were able to share the humor of the story and relate it to our situation. It brings a smile every time its read!!

5-0 out of 5 stars anonymous 9 yr old
I gave this book a rating of 5 stars because it is funny. He goes to his Grandma and Grandpa's and he yelled "I have to go" and he keeps saying "I have to go". He leaves you hanging behind.

5-0 out of 5 stars anonymous 9 yr old
I'm in a class with first, second, and third graders all mixed togther. When my teacher read I Have to GO, all my classmates cracked up! We all especially love the parts when Andrew yells... "I HAVE TO GO PEE" (it's hilarious) If you ever decide to read this book, when you are just about to start reading the last page, remind yourself that this is a book like no other! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The author is Sesame Street's "Bob" and he knows!
This books helps teach kids about different ways children and their potties go through this rite of passage together. My 2 and 1/2 year old LOVED this book and I truly appreciate the diverse group of children on its colorful and vibrant pages. From have potty, will travel, to wanting it in the bedroom, each child has a signature and singular experience with their potty which culminates at the end with the same result for everyone: underpants! (Our ultimate goal, don't you know.) There is not a plot but if you are a parent who asks comprehension and extension questions when you read to your child, this will be perfect!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as some others
This book essentially has a one-liner on each page showing a toddler and a potty-oriented thing -- usually comments that children make, or a line explaining the picture. E.g., "mark tries all the potties before picking the one he likes best", "laura teaches the bear how to use the potty", etc. There is no story; each picture and usage is different although several overlap. In my experience, this book was good for a few days but my child did not stay interested. Once upon a Potty, What do you do with a Potty, and The Princess and the Potty have kept her interest and she continues to read them regularly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money
I bought this book and was very disappointed. My daughter is 3 years old and has no interest in the potty. This book doesn't teach any basics or gives them any motivation. It is one-liners and children don't get the jist of the toilet learning process, my daughter finds it confusing and never pays attention when I read it. Just a waste of money, in my opinon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't impress me
I bought four books about potty training and this was the worst! Made no sense (must admit I am no child psychologist) and my child remembers and understands the other three books and wants to read them over and over again unlike this one. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars 27 Chilling Tales of the Potty
Bob McGrath is a literary genius. His chillingly accurate portrayal of life on the potty from the perspective of 27 very different people will keep you riveted till the last page. Coupled with the gritty realism of Shelley Dieterichs' illustrations, this should be on the top of everyone's Must Read List. A story that particularly struck me was that of little Jacob Malloy, a boy who discovers the potty's magical ability to "flush the bad stuff away." His initial offerings to the potty are innocent enough, such as candy wrappers and plastic cowboys, but things take a turn for the macabre when his little sister eats his half of a candy bar that Daddy told them to share. I don't want to spoil it, but it has a plot twist the likes of which I've never read before or since. McGrath's "Uh-Oh! Gotta Go!" is a masterpiece that is destined for the top of Amazon's bestseller list. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Potty Time is Right On Time!
Featuring simple patterned text and familiar animals, Potty Time is right on time! Guido Van Genechten's illustrations, painted on old Belgian (?) newspaper, are bold, eye-catching...and silly! How can you not laugh at Nellie Elephant's "great big bottom" squatting on Joe's little pot? Or Missy Mouse's "teeny weeny bottom" perilously perched on the edge? With this book you can introduce the potty concept while sliding in a lesson on contrasting shapes and sizes for good measure. Throw in some extra "oinks", "woofs", "clucks", and "ribbits" and your child will love it even more.

I think Potty Time! fits more in the ENTERTAINING category. Two other delightful potty books featuring animals include Potty! by Mylo Freeman and Sara's (or Max's) Potty by Harriet Ziefert.

5-0 out of 5 stars PERFECT POTTY TIME
A big hit in our house. We were given this as a gift because toilet training is the big subject right now. This isn't an explanation of how to potty train. Instead it's a very funny story showing a bunch of different animals finding exactly the right potty to sit on. Our daughter knows it well enough to read to herself at potty time. It's made this experience much better.

5-0 out of 5 stars FUNNY AND HELPFUL
We're at the potty stage and got this along with a couple of other books. It's a very funny book about a bunch of different animals trying to find the right potty. My son just laughs and laughs and then has to go sit on his potty. Just what we needed. ... Read more

Adorable Angus the Answer Dog cheerfully and respectfully guides youngchildren through the exciting, sometimes daunting experience of potty training. An ideal read-aloud book for children who are on the verge of transitioning fromdiapers to big-kid underpants, this matter-of-fact book explains the processnaturally and calmly. Each two-page spread asks a question: "Where do pee-peeand poop come from?" "What's a potty?" "How do I know when to go to the potty?""Why do I have to wash my hands?" and more, each question anticipating the next.Angus answers these queries with clarity, sensitivity, and attention toage-appropriateness. Amusing and appealing pictures by Laura Rader illustratesuch compelling details (well, to small children, anyway!) as where pee-pee andpoop go after flushing. A paw print in each section indicates a little game oridea for young trainees. The introduction invites parents to use their ownlanguage for the terms provided, but recommends child-friendly names over highlyclinical terms.

Heidi Murkoff, coauthor of the bestselling pregnancy book, What to Expect When You'reExpecting, writes lucidly and honestly in all the books in thetremendously appealing What to Expect series for young children, including What to Expect When Mommy's Havinga Baby and What to ExpectWhen You Go to the Doctor. Soon young readers will be "flushed" withpride at reaching another big developmental milestone! (Ages 2 to 5) --EmilieCoulter ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference for Parents - Not for Toddlers
From the Word to Parents introduction to Angus the Answer Dog activities, Heidi Murkoff presents information on toilet training in a way that is both clever and comprehensive. But what would you expect from the author who also wrote What To Expect When You're Expecting, the must-read for mothers-to-be? Murkoff's potty book answers ten toddler questions about the process. Rather than read it to your toddler from cover to cover as you would a typical story book, keep it on hand as a quick reference guide. When your son asks "Where does poop go when you flush?" you can point to Laura Rader's colorful illustration of four flushing toilets leading to a big underground tank. Or when your daughter wonders how to wipe, try the activity Angus suggests and practice her technique on a doll.

After reading over two dozen potty books, I think this is a good instructional guide. For similar book, read You Can Go to the Potty by Dr. Sears.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very advanced
I think by the time your child will understand this book he will be 6 yrs old and hoepfully potty trained! Too advanced for a 2 yr old and not enough pictures. More information than what I needed to know. I LOVE the What to Expect books for pregnancy and child rearing, but this book didn't meet those expectations!

5-0 out of 5 stars The truth will set you free!!
This book takes the mystery (hence some of the scariness) out of the process, and handles the subject in a matter-of-fact way. Especially good for for independant minded, strong willed toddlers!

2-0 out of 5 stars More for parents than kids

This cheerful and matter-of-fact book for preschoolers and their parents serves as an encouraging introduction to the mystery of potty-training. A comforting letter to parents sets the tone for the book. A friendly dog acts as a guide and narrator, offering hints, tips, and activities. The question and answer format is practical and effective. Much of the content will go over the head of two-year olds, but there are other ways than simply reading the text to share this book and generate of discussion of toilet training.
The illustrations are multicultural and non-threatening. The bright colors and fluffy dog have immense appeal, and the childlike font is a well-planned design element.
The book doesn't address the fears of flushing, and a bibliography for parents who need more how-to information should have been provided. Not quite as effective as Once Upon a Potty, but could be used in conjuction with the classic.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment
There are very few books my 27 month old doesn't enjoy - we read two or three before bed every nite. But he has had no interest in this one, and I can't blame him. It made the whole process seem much more complicated than a 2 year old needs it to be. It raises questions that he wouldn't think of, and is really much more suited to an older child - who of course doesn't need potty training. For a toddler, it's all about accomplishment, like "I did it myself". The digestive process and waste water treatment, which are hinted at, are not where a toddler is focusing. There was no sense of a toddler's perspective in this.

I have to agree with another reviewer, who thought this was simply a way to make more money off of the 'what to expect' series, which does include some very good books. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Tender and uplifting, but aimed at much younger children
This little book is short and simple. The main problem is that it is clearly aimed at children who may not even be old enough to read it for themselves. Not that there's anything wrong with a grown-up reading to them, but encopresis affects many children that are over the first-grade reading level. (The little boy in the book appears to be approximately first or second grade.)

Unfortunately, there is very little out there in the way of useful, informative literature that addresses the medical and psychological aspects of these problems. Dr. Galvin is to be commended and congratulated for his efforts and insights on how to comfort, encourage, and challenge children (and parents) who deal with encopresis. Believe it or not, with patience and perseverance, this problem does end, and there is life after it.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Son Got Instant Results From This Book
I read the story to my 4 1/2 year old son, after months of fruitless efforts to help him. He immediately identified with the boy in the story. I took him into the bathroom, intending to start with the first step suggested, however, my son proceeded through all the steps right then and there, and has not had an accident since! I couldn't believe it! I recommend this book to anyone with a child who has this problem.

3-0 out of 5 stars Can help you, talking to your child about soiling problems
We have read through this book and find that it can be useful as an aid to opening discussions with your child about encopresis. Having said that, we feel that it is aimed at a very low age group, who may have difficulties with reading in the first instance. The one problem we have is that our encopretic children are above the elementary reading level and therefore got bored and distracted very easily.

One situation that arises with encopresis is that children tend to feel very alone and afraid, because of the amount of pressure heaped on to them at an important stage in their development. This book goes some way to addressing those feelings, but if you are considering it for a child over 5-6 years of age (which is of course the very age where encopresis is causing its biggest headaches) then maybe have the book on a side stand somewhere, and try to talk to your child on a more personal level.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative for the children who suffer Encopresis
We ourselves have a copy of this book and if your child is in the early stages of Encopresis, treatment wise, then this does go some way to relieving the fears they have. Being a parent of Encopretic children I did find uses for the book, as an aid towards opening the childs mind as to what goes on and found it a great tool to open discussion with your child about the problem. What a shame that there is not more people willing to put it in print as to what the fears are of the childs parents or guardians.

The only addition to this book is to see a book written by and on behalf of the the parents of sufferers. We need support and guidance as well! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Potty Over "Going Potty"
My two-year-old daughter and I are great fans of Bear, and when she started toilet training, I debated over whether to get this book or the video. I figured a large colourful interactive book featuring all the BBBH characters facing the psychological challenges of switching from diapers to potty would be great inspiration and entertainment resource that my daughter could read while she sat on her potty. When we received the book, I was very disapointed. All we got was a small cardboard book with uninteresting flaps and difficult to use magic wheel containing a short story about Ojo going to the toilet before visiting at a friend's house. My two year old is already very familiar with the mechanics of using a toilet...we want to see all the characters explaining why going to the toilet is worth the effort of overcoming the fears and reservations toilet trainers have in learning this new skill. I hear the video is very good....you're most likely better off getting that instead.

2-0 out of 5 stars "Going Potty" - the not very interesting interactive book
We have Bear tapes, cd's and books. We LOVE Bear, but we don't love this book. The story line is very specific but not anywhere as good as the plot in the TV episode "Potty Time".

First, the flaps are uninteresting. In one Ojo merely moves her hands to her crotch (one supposes to indicate that she has to 'go'. And in another, Ojo holds Snowbear up higher. Boring for me and my 2 year old daughter. [There is also a pull tab which in one case lowers a stool to the ground, and in another lengthens TP hanging off a roll. Wow!]

Second, where there is innovation, it is difficult to use. There is a wheel which makes it look as if water is running in a toilet & in a sink where Ojo is washing her hands- the mechanism is difficult to use, even for me.

Perhaps this is book is just age inappropriate for us.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for potty training, great mom/son bonding book
Not only did it help to speed up the toilet training process it's also a great bonding book for moms and sons. At the end of the book, Grover-mom tells Grover-son what a big boy he is and how proud she is that he goes all by himself. Well, my son just loves that part and when we get to that page, I repeat the same words to him and substitute his name for Grover. He has been going potty for several months now but still likes to read this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Potty routine not addressed completely
The drawback of this book is that the potty routine ("going", wiping and washing hands) isn't covered. "Little Grover" simply "goes" and, then, his mother helps him dress up. It sends children the message that they must first "find Mommy" before going to the bathroom. Ultimately, the book fosters dependence rather than self-reliance. The illustrations of the Baby Muppets, (compared to comparable Sesame Street photograph books), aren't very good either. Lastly, though the pages are described as "super-sturdy", they bend and break easily.

5-0 out of 5 stars The kids love it
My son asks me to read this over-and-over. It's a good story about taking a potty break when you are playing.

5-0 out of 5 stars momto1
I thought this was a great aid to help my 21 month old son. I have read this no less than three times a day for about a month, many times back to back at his insistence. He thinks Little Grover is a mover and a shaker, which gets and keeps his attention. It may not be for everyone but I found it helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Potty Time Reading, and overcoming Fear
My objective in purchasing this book for my two-year old daughter was to get her to overcome her fear of the potty, and to be more patient. Now she can sit and look at the book, while she sits on the potty.

So far it is working quite well. The muppet theme helps! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Really cute book!
I bought this book for my infant daughter beacause I grew up on the Berenstain Bears. This book is a nice, short book to read & although I'm sure there are many educational books on potty training, I thought this was done very well in more of an entertaining way that would keep a young child's attention.

3-0 out of 5 stars My 2 Year Old Loves It
My 2and1/2 year old has read this book and it has sparked her interest in becoming potty trained. She now wears pullups, which is progress. Sparking interest is really all this book is intended to do. We read the book at least twice a week, including in the bathroom. My 15 month also likes looking at the pictures, too. I give it 3 stars for very good.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Many Other Good BB Books--Don't Waste Time
The new BB baby board books have been marketed pretty well, targeting the very youngest readers (or pre-readers), but do not be fooled by these new titles. The drawings are boring, lifeless, empty, and simple. Much to the dismay of a huge Berenstain Bears fan, I have to advise that you NOT choose these books. There are too many other GOOD Berenstain Bears books to waste your time or money on these titles. There are a number of other board books and pre-school books by the Berenstains if you like the bears --- check out the board book versions of Inside Outside Upside Down or Old Hat New Hat. You might also look at titles like Yike Yike Where's My Trike or The BB In Big Bear City. The only disadvantage is that the words/stories are not going to help a kid to give up his/her pacifier or learn to like a car seat. So there IS still SOME validity to this series. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars opposite effect
my child is now proud of wearing diapers. the first line in the book is --Do you wear diapers?-- my kid laughs and says yes and pats his diaper. He doesn't relate to her dislike of diaper rash or having to sit in it when mommy doesn't have time to change it. Also this book talks about diaper pins and tape which is outdated even for cloth diaper users. So this book has had the opposite effect by no error of the writers; I didn't expect that reaction when i bought it! Really is probably a decent book for every other child in the world

5-0 out of 5 stars HELLO POTTY!
MY DAUGHTER LOVES THIS BOOK. IT IS AMONG OUR FAVORITES. THE MUPPET BABY MISS PIGGY TELLS ABOUT HOW SHE USED TO WEAR DIAPERS AND DECIDED TO BE LIKE THE BIG KIDS, SO NOW SHE USES THE POTTY. WE OWN AN EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF POTTY BOOKS, AND THIS, WHILE BEING ONE OF THE LEAST COSTLY IS ONE OF THE BEST.

5-0 out of 5 stars No more diapers!
This is a cute book featuring the Muppets Miss Piggy. I think maybe a girl would relate to it more. My son is very aware that it is a little girl potty training in this story. It has a very cute rhyme about not wearing diapers that I have adapted for my son.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diapers are Out, Thanks to Muppet Babies, Say Parents
I haven't worn diapers for over 37 years, and this entertaining book has reaffirmed that decision. Diapers are out! Of course, my six month old daughter is heavily into diapers, but that doesn't keep her from enjoying this book as well. She hasn't taken the hint yet, but that's because she doesn't understand any of the words. Still, for the money you can't buy a better little book, and best of all, it stands up to chewing pretty well (for a while, anyway)!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute Book and Doll
I bought this book for my 2 1/2 yr. old daughter. The book does explain to the child the process of learning pottying; however, the book explains that boys stand up to urinate and girls sit down. I thought that was too much information at this point in time. My daughter never plays with the doll.

5-0 out of 5 stars potty plez
the cutest potty book in the world my sister loves to play with the dolls, and also went from no potty ice cream to sissa potty time plez and it's just a fun book i'm going to buy more for my potty trining twin couzins they would love it and even more for the rest of my couzins too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
This book was a great way to get my daughter interested in potty training. The bear is cute and the text models positive reinforcment and patience in the training process. I loaned my out and lost it so now I'm getting another copy for my second child!

2-0 out of 5 stars I was disappointed
If I had seen this in a bookstore, I would have passed it up. The book is flimsy and the bear is very small. The diaper pants for the bear are very tiny and difficult to put on, so my little boy doesn't really get any benefit from them. I don't care for the format of having parent notes on the same page as the story. In all, very disappointing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and to the point
This charming story keeps my 23 month old daughters attention. She understands the important message, yet enjoys hearing the story over and over again. Each page has informative potty training foot notes for parents. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Sensitive
I bought this book for my 3-1/2 year old daughter who, despite daytime potty training success, has not yet been able to stay dry all night consistently. Although we have always been comforting and encouraging, she is beginning to express frustration and disappointment in herself for not being able to stay dry through the night. This book was exactly what we needed.

The story is about Little Bunny (LB, for short), who really wants to stay dry all night but keeps waking up wet, confused, and sad. His parents are very supportive, telling him that when his body is ready, he will stay dry. By the end of the book, he does just that.

It's an adorable story, and a very sensitive treatment of the subject. My daughter was enthralled, and she smiled with delight when LB succeeded in staying dry all night.

I was really touched by the sensitivity with which LB's parents handled the situation, especially when they said LB didn't need to go back to wearing diapers since, "We don't mind washing your sheets in the morning if you don't mind changing your pajamas in the middle of the night." There was a lesson in that for me as well. After several months of doing extra laundry, I bought a package of training pants for my daughter. She was really disappointed, since she had long since graduated to big-girl underpants, but she reluctantly agreed to wear them. After reading the book to her tonight, I decided to back off on that and keep trying.

I know I'm not alone in feeling helpless when my child is unable to keep herself dry at night. This book offers a simple, sensitive way to reassure your child (and yourself) that this, too, shall pass.

5-0 out of 5 stars great for teaching kids
this book is a great example of a real live experience. alot of kids felt the same as LB, that he/she feels like a baby wearing a diper to bed. so they try and try and try not to wet the bed and after well you get the picture. this book is great for kids that have that problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Healing Salve
What I have to say is complex, yet simple. I was a bedwetter who had tried everything, my parents tried the best they could to help. I wet the bed until I was sixteen years old. I was unable to do sleepovers like other children. At sixteen and deeply emotionally scarred I stopped wetting and was still hurting from the years of embarrasment. At the age of 20 I was volunteering in a library and shelved this book. I read it at that time and I was somehow healed of my wounds. I have searched for it since in every book store and now I have found it, thank God for Amazon.com. I cannot wait for the oppurtunity to share this treasure with my children. ... Read more

Book Description

Here's a most unusual potty training book! Its illustrations have flaps for toddlers to lift, tabs for them to pull, and an amusing little story that they'll certainly identify with. When little Sam unwraps a surprise package, kids can lift the picture's flap and find the surprise at the same time that he finds it. It's a Potty! Soon, Sam is learning to use his potty, but sometimes he slips up and does wee-wee on the floor. "That's ok, Sam," says Mom. "Next time you can use your potty." At last, Sam is happy because he doesn't have to wear squishy, squashy diapers any more. Kids will be delighted by flaps and pop-ups on five of the book's full-color illustrations. Meanwhile, Moms and Dads will also smile as they help tots get toilet trained. (Ages 1-4) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pop-Up Potty Book is Positively Fun
'Pop-Up Potty Book is Positively Fun'
Surprise! Sam's got a present'hence starts another contribution to the highly-populated potty book market. Out of three activity potty books we have found (see also Sara's Potty by Harriet Ziefert and What Do You Do With A Potty? by Marianne Borgardt) I thought this one a winner. The text combines common elements found in other books, such as using the potty as a toy. But it also includes some funny moments (watch out for Charlie the dog!). Engaging ink-and-watercolor illustrations by Peter Utton are as lively as the text. One word of caution: two of the flaps lift to reveal a puddle of pee on the floor. One shows actual poop in Sam's potty. Didn't bother us, but may be more graphic for other reader's taste. The conclusion features a diverse group of children cheering from their potties (a first). This book is more entertaining than educational, however (see The Potty Book for Girls by Alyssa Satin Capucilli, You Can Go to the Potty by Dr. Sears or What To Expect When You Use the Potty by Heidi Murkoff for more instructional picture books).

4-0 out of 5 stars This Book Helped
I bought this book for my little toddler who was having a bit of trouble going potty. You see, he thinks the toilet is going to eat him if he sits on it too long, so he never wants to go number 2! If he goes number 1 he is perfectly fine. But I think with the help of this book we have had much less "accidents" and my little boy likes to go potty so he can read his new favorite book! In fact he has almost memorized it by now! We still have some trouble every so often, but much less than before. Thanks Let's Go Potty! You've helped my family so very much! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Too Silly!
This is a silly book that little ones will think is fun, but for a parent trying to introduce potty training it leaves one wondering....... For instance, I did not appreciate the part where Chuckie is supposed to be using the toilet paper to clean himself after using the potty because it shows a chaotic mass of toilet paper all over the place. I'm trying to encourage my child to use a few sheets & not to unravel the entire spool of toilet paper! Also there's not much in the way of a story to read. I've read a half dozen other potty books and they were heads above this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Have to be a "Rugrats" Fan, but It Helps
Whether you're child loves Chuckie, Tommy, Phil & Lil and Spike or not, the pictures and situation in this book will delight. The only thing missing from this wonderful paperback is Angelica's devious influences. In several short pages, author Kathi Wagner and illustrator Ron Zalme capture the babies' individual personalities and send Chuckie on the quest of a toddler's lifetime. Pure fun, whether you're potty-trained or not!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good For All Ages

2-0 out of 5 stars NOTE THIS IS A LIFT THE FLAP BOOK!
Was very surprised this was a lift the flap book as there was no indication of that in the title or descriptions / reviews. I am debating returning it. Pictures are very cute but really repeats the same thing page after page. Does an elephant use the potty? No, A bear, No etc. Flaps are separate pages attatched by 1/8 inch seam which my 2 year old could easily rip off if I don't add more tape. Maybe that is why they list it as for 4yr olds... but most of them would not need this book. See The Potty Book for Boys (maybe there is one for girls) by Alyssa Satin Capucilli for a more diverse book. It also has quite durable pages!

5-0 out of 5 stars Toddler pleasing book on potty training!
Max's Potty is a playful and very entertaining book about potty training. My toddler daughter really enjoyed this book and asked for it "again, again". I think a more appropriate age for this book is 2 to 3 years old rather than 4 to 8 years old as is listed. ... Read more
