4-0 out of 5 stars Fuzzy Bear's Potty Book
My grandson just loves this book. I really let him use it too young--under 2, and he tore the heck out of it by 2 times of use. But he liked it so much, especially the "fush", I'm just going to get another, and let him start over again--maybe I should buy 2! Ooooh, being a Nana is the BEST! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Cute, but not durable!
This is a cute book, but the flusher stopped working after about 6 months of use. Very disappointing!

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth extra trips to the potty!
Really cute rhyming story with a button to press to hear the potty flush. It's a great book to keep in the bathroom for those marathon waits, but be careful they don't have so much fun with the book that they forget why they're sitting there! One of the more fun potty training books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh, the things you do as a parent...
Such as listening to (and, after dozens of repeat performances, singing along with) songs about pooping in the potty. Just hope you're not singing so loud that the neighbors hear you!

So, having said that, this has been a great tape for my son. He was adopted from Romania having just turned four, and using the potty isn't a big skill they stress in the orphanages, apparently. His inability to speak English was a bit of a problem, too. This tape's repetitive, simple lyrics, and fun nursery-rhyme tunes, made him want to listen to it again and again. And, I must admit, after about the 500th time, I started to kind of like some of the songs, too!

I highly recommend the tape, but beware: you will soon be singing potty songs, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars My three year old loves this tape
This tape really works for my three year old. She wasn't very interested in the potty, but I bought her the tape. She loves it! She'll sit on the potty and listen to the tape, singing along. It's really made a big difference. In just three weeks, she's almost fully trained.

5-0 out of 5 stars can't live without it!!!
This cassette WORKED for my 2 year-old! She finally became interested in the potty. My 8 year-old nephew liked the "gross" lyrics, and finally borrowed and lost the tape. I have to get it again, because my now-3-year-old loves the lyrics (we can remember) and want to play it again. If your toddler needs help, THIS IS THE TAPE!!!! K. Kattelus ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Shows HUMILIATION
I bought this book thinking it would be helpful. The princess theme was a good one. But, I am SO GLAD I READ this book BEFORE I gave it to my little one. While it does show the little princess asking for her potty (a good message), it does not show encouragement or making the child feel better after her "accident". It has the poor child standing in a puddle, redfaced, emabrrassed, and with sad eyes. It shows the humiliation a child may feel if it doesn't get to the potty in time. And, may, make her afraid to go without the diaper for fear of not getting there in time. I was appalled. So much that I will not even donate this book or give it away. It is going into the trash.

3-0 out of 5 stars Is it a cup or a potty?
My 21-month-old daughter seems to like the story and that it is a princess learning to use the potty (since she is too), but the potty doesn't look like a potty. She thinks its a cup. Now she wants to take my coffee up to the potty and use it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Both my children & I love this book!
The illustrations are nice. There are only a few words on each page, so it is a quick read. The little princess is really trying, but sometimes you just can't make it to the potty in time & that's okay.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just right for toddlers
We discovered this story in a large compilation book I bought just as my son was beginning toilet training. This story immediately became his favourite and he asked for it over and over, able to relate completely to the little princess' ups and downs with toilet training, and her eventual little accident on the floor. The sense of humour is exactly right for two and three year olds and our big story book is still known as "the potty book".

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter, the princess, has a potty too; she related well
My daughter related to the frustrations of using the potty and getting to it too late. Since we call her "princess" and she also has a potty, she thought the story was about her. So of course, she wanted to imitate the princess in the story. Within a week, my little girl was asking to sit on her potty -- quite successfully too ... Read more

Parents who share this humorous picture book with their child will discover that it's a pleasant and positive way to introduce them to toilet training. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for toilet-training toddlers
This book is an excellent tool for toilet-training toddlers. Children become easily overwhelmed during this sensitive process but this book doesn't try to hit them over the head with any sort of message. It merely explains through humorous descriptions and drawings why animals couldn't use toilets (an elephant would smash it to pieces; a goat would eat the toilet paper)and why they are meant for big boys and girls instead. My nephew, now in pull-ups, ran to the bathroom as soon as it ended, he was so excited. Very amusing for grown-ups as well. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Warmhearted Introduction to the Potty
In the highly populated potty book market, this book captures but one aspect: trying to get to the potty in time. Author illustrator Virginia Miller offers spare text in large easy-to-read print and drawings in pencil and colored marker featuring a lovable bear named Bartholomew ('Ba' for short). When his papa George asks, 'Do you need your potty, Ba?' his son responds 'Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, NAH!' My girls thought this hysterical and began repeating it (almost to the point of tedium). Read this book for entertainment only. To introduce the functional aspects of the toilet training process, such as what actually goes in the potty, wiping, flushing, and washing up, try these more instructional potty books: The Potty Book for Girls by Alyssa Satin Capucilli, You Can Go to the Potty by Dr. Sears or What To Expect When You Use the Potty by Heidi Murkoff.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just ok
I think the book is funny but my son who is almost 2 1/2 isn't interested in it. He'd rather read "You can go to the potty" by the Sears.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute potty training book!
Ba is typical little kid getting potty trained. Doesn't think he needs potty until almost too late and afterwards both Ba and George are proud. Funny pictures!

5-0 out of 5 stars funny potty trip

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute & Clever
How refreshing to have a book that celebrate "potty success" without getting preachy about it! Sometimes I think we over-focus on "performance." This is a fun and gentle story for toddlers, with delightfully simple illustrations.

3-0 out of 5 stars "Decent Introduction to the Potty"
Here's a potty book written from a slightly different angle. The title suggests a story about a child and his or her pet. Only the potty on the cover gives a clue to the content.

Simply executed in 51 words and cut-paper collage, author - illustrator Cathryn Falwell cleverly alternates the story line between P. J. (gender undetermined) and the new potty and Puppy and the newspaper. "P. J. plays. Puppy plays. P. J. wets pants. Puppy wets rug." Mom's got skills, because she apparently toilet trains her child AND house trains her dog at the same time. If you own a puppy, your family will relate. We don't, but my girls liked it anyway.

We have read almost every potty book available on the market as of 9/2003 (over two dozen!). Most fit into two categories: INSTRUCTIONAL books that introduce the skills needed to master the potty; and those that are primarily ENTERTAINING, for children who understand what is supposed to happen on the potty, but need extra time to make it happen.

P. J. and Puppy provides little in the way of instruction. You the parent must fill in the gaps with functional information.

Falwell's dedication states: "To all parents who think dry days will never come..." Her book is a gentle nudge in that direction.

4-0 out of 5 stars ADORABLE
My 2.5 yr old son really liked it. He likes puppies and we'reworking on potty training. I especially liked the page with the wetpants and wet rug (from the puppy). Later the pants and the rug were both dry and everyone had big smiles. Cute pictures and a cute idea to show kids that some pets have to learn this too. It doesn't mention anything about pooping though, which is the area my toddler needs the most help with right now. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a lovely book
I totally disagree with the other reviewers on this, my child adores it, and it has helped her to understand the potty as a non threatening and useful item. The pictures are adorable and sweet, the colours are vibrant and bold. There is much going on in the book for toddlers to point at and discuss (like the toys that accompany the little girl on her potty adventures!)It is not a Potty training guide, but a softer and more gentle approach to identifying what a potty is. A really lovely book.

2-0 out of 5 stars How Unsanitary
"I Love My Potty" by Lara Jones is a brightly colored board book that attempts to reconcile toddlers with the oft-scorned, much-feared potty. Jones attempts to familiarize tots with the concept of using a potty by having her main character interact with her potty in non-threatening ways, such as using it as a race car. However, Jones crosses over into the unsanitary when her potty-familiarization includes "wearing the potty like a hat" and carrying things in it. Overall, "I Love My Potty" makes a valiant attempt at helping a toddler learn to cheefully interact with a potty, however it is enough to make any parent squirm as their own children follow the example of the little girl in the story and begin to wear potties on their heads.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't get if you're potty training a toddler
What a nightmare! Imagine your toddler deciding to stick his toys in his little toilet, or wearing it as a hat! Yuck. The toddler in the story loves her potty as a hat,a toybox, a car, a chair, and a drum. Only on the last page is it used as a place to go to the bathroom "and sometimes my potty is just a potty. I love my potty!"

I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars mantabulous
A must have...how many times have you sat there and read the ingrediants of a lotion bottle wondering if the effects of SPF and aloe truely impact world events...then I discovered the "Potty Time Book" hanging on a friend's doorknob...I left only because my legs fell asleep...I've now purchased one for each bathroom...You should too...

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
I was attracted to the concept of a potty book that hangs on the handle of the bathroom door because it would always be there to entertain my two year old on the potty. However, it has not moved from the door handle. Because my child who loves books has no interest in the book, I've rated it low. I also think there are better potty books out there. (We like Caillou Potty Time and What to Expect When You Use the Potty.)

Some of my issues with the book are that the snap that holds the book closed is difficult to open. The book itself is awkward and difficult for little hands to handle and maneuver. The first page (although true) bothered me: "Diapers are yucky and smelly! Yor should use the potty -" I think my problem with this is that we are having a lot of setbacks since the birth of her sister. As a result, I feel that this page evokes the feeling of shame, which I am trying to avoid.

On the positive side, this is a sturdy board book which does hang nicely from the door. It quickly reminds little ones of the rituals involved in going to the potty (wipe, flush, wash, etc.) However, it is not a big winner in our home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book is a must have. It hangs on the bathroom door and my toddler just loves pulling it out everytime he has to use the bathroom. The book is written from the perspective of an older child showing a younger one "the ropes". The illustrations are also very good and hence makes it easy for a toddler to identify the potty, the toilet and toilet paper.

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK IS CHARMING
THIS BOOK IS ONE OF THE BEST ON THE "POTTY" BOOK LIST. ALTHOUGH IT IS ALITTLE BIT PRICIER THAN SOME OF THE OTHER BOOKS OUT IS IS A GREAT BOOK. THE PAGES ARE HEAVY CARDBOARD AND QUITE INDESTRUCTIBLE. THE STORY IS SHORT AND TO THE POINT. "DIAPERS ARE YUCKY AND SMELLY, YOU SHOULD USE THE POTTY, AND I'LL SHOW YOU HOW." THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE HUMOROUS, AND THE ENIDING IS WONDERFUL. THIS BOOK IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES. ... Read more
