4-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the other "Pat the.." books, but...
This is not as fun as the other "Pat the.." books, but my daughter still loves it! These have been her favorite books for months now (she is currently 20 months).

2-0 out of 5 stars Lamest of the "Pat the ..." series
We have "Pat the Bunny", "Pat the Cat", "Pat the Puppy" and this book, "Pat the Pony". It is the worst of the four and the one our child doesn't take from the shelf.

Jack and Jemma visit Jack's aunt and uncle on the farm; first they pat the pony. Okay so far. Then they put on boots. The "interactive" part here consists of touching the smooth boot, which feels exactly like the page. Not only is this bad device used, but it crops up again when you can feel a glass of lemonade. Weak. The scratch and sniff rose, woolly sheep and a blanket that lifts to reveal a basket of puppies are fine. Finally, the tabs are flimsy, and needless to say they are already ripped out of our book -- a wheel that turns, ducks that float, and milk that spills -- or used to.

This is a fun little series, but you would be better off getting "Pat the Bunny" or "Pat the Cat", the two best in our experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pat the Pony
My daughter (age 3) absolutely loves this book! She has evenmemorized it! It's a wonderful book for children learning to read. It's very descriptive and also a fun way to interact with your child.Your child will enjoy the "touch and feel" aspect of this book. They will also gain new friends by the end of the book. I highly recommend this book for your child or even as gift for any child! This is a book that children will love and remember as part of their childhood! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is hysterical
Anyone who doesn't find this book funny has no sense of humor. I'll admit the humor is pretty silly, but everybody could use some silliness in their lives. My wife is a kindergarten teacher, and her kids absolutely love it. Her fellow teachers love it even more. The story and the visuals are terrific. I would recommend The Dumb Bunnies to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids LOVE to read this book
As a teacher, I've read this book to my class of first and second graders. They LOVE this book and read it over and over again. It's a funny book, and I enjoy watching my students so motivated to read! They could hardly contain themselves when they found out there was a sequel-- so I can recommend Dumb Bunnies Easter, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Humor, parody, and lesson-teaching...
I feel as though I must address the scathing criticism of other posters. This book is a silly parody of other stories. It does not teach kids to say, "Duh." That is a sound that the father makes when he is actually being dumb. It does not encourage the child to do something after his parents have told him it was dangerous. Rather, it demonstrates the consequences of doing so and makes it appear "dumb" to do it. This book is about producing giggles from the unexpected and silly. My children absolutely love the gentle irreverence of it. It is not harsh or rude; rather it is charming and fun. I highly recommend it for any children, especially those who may not have developed a love of reading just yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars MY KIDS LOVE THIS BOOK
This book is silly and funny. My kids are 3 and 6 and they just love it and laugh everytime we read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Luv that Dav Pilkey guy!
Dav Pilkey is the author/illustrator of the hi-larious Captain Underpants series. His books are very funny and will encourage reluctant readers to pick up a book.

The Dumb Bunnies are a very silly family who happily do things backwards, upsidedown and sideways, without ever losing their happy dispositions, in fact, they never even notice that they march to the beat of a different drummer! With humor that everyone can understand and great illustrations, kids will really enjoy the Dumb Bunnies! ... Read more

When Willa the rabbit wakes up early one morning, she pulls on herjumpsuit ("this way... and that way... until it was right.") and chickenslippers, and heads downstairs for breakfast. Unfortunately, she can't reach.Big brother Willoughby to the rescue! After waking her brother, Willa plies himwith questions about getting big. Willoughby replies with exactly the kind ofanswers a toddler needs: "You'll be able to brush your own teeth without anyhelp... And when you're really big, nearly as big as I'll be, you might be ableto reach the moon in a rocket!" It's only when Willoughby informs his littlesister that she'll be too big for toys that the pleasant future-fantasizingscreeches to a halt. "I don't ever want to be big," Willa says. Fortunately,Willoughby is thoughtful enough to know when to turn the reins over to someoneolder, wiser, and infinitely comforting: Mom.

In this sequel to the endearing Tell Me Something Happy Before I Go toSleep Joyce Dunbar and Debi Gliori bring back this cuddly pair ofsiblings for another reassuring tale about childhood worries. 4-0 out of 5 stars Utterly charming look at growing up
Poor Willa. She's too little to reach the table by herself, too little to get her clothes on by herself, too little for practically any activity that makes life fun. She goes to her older brother Willoughby and begins to quiz him on how it is to be grown up. Willoughby sets her straight with gentle humor and some straight talk.

Throw into the mix the fact that Willa and Willoughby are utterly charming rabbits drawn by illustrator Debi Gliori and you get the idea of this lovely book. Author Joyce Dunbar has done a good job of showing that growing up isn't all it's made out to be, while simultaneously holding out for the idea that there's a lot of good stuff involved. ... A perfectly charming book with sweet illustrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Telll Me What Its Like to Be Big
Remember what it was like to be little and wanting to be big! A time when everything would be better if only you were bigger. This heartwarming story is about a bunny named Willa who is very curious about growing up. She gets up very early one morning by herself and realizes she is too little to get breakfast on her own. Willa decides to wake up her brother, Willoughby, who agrees to help her. As he helps her with breakfast, she starts to question him about what it's like to be big. Willoughby patiently answers Willa's questions with older sibling wisdom. The painted illustrations make you feel warm and comfortable. The endpapers remind you of a cozy quilt. All of which remind you of home. Children K-3 will love this story for it's illustrations and the wonderment of what it's like to be older. Adults will love reading it for the nostalgic memories of wanting to be big and knowing what it's like when you finally get there. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Jeremy a definite come-back bunny"
Jan Karon's tale of bunny adventure has stood the test of time in our household. The story of Jeremy, the English bunny sent with silver buttons to America, protected by Biblical verse and by the likes of Charles Benchley Owl, this was a fun first read for all. Now, left on a handy table, we're finding some of the lines getting a reprise -- "Don't take carrots from strangers" -- while the unusual depth of Teri Weidner's illustrations draws the reader back for second and more close looks. All of the art fits the tone and sense of the book. The full-page work is particularly entrancing. This bunny honestly provides repreated pleasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars The cutest book!
Even though this book is easy, it is so cute! This is the only book I can find that is good for bunny lovers(like me). Just go to the library or buy this book and read it. It makes great before bed stories!

2-0 out of 5 stars Honestly, Jeremy Ain't That Beguiling a Bunny
The best things about this book are its quaint jacket illustration, the 40-year-old picture of the author and her daughter on the back cover, and its built-in bookmark. It appears Karon's been given free rein to pubish just about anything, based on the best-selling popularity of her "Mitford" series. There are TONS of better things available for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars A story of adventure and friendship for young readers

An enchanting children's book, ideally to be read aloud--preferably by a loving grandparent or great-grandparent. I purchased it so that I could read it to my 4-year-old great grandson.

The story features a hand-made bunny, made by a young woman in England for a customer in North Carolina, and it's all about Jeremy's travels to get to his new home, and the people (and animals) that he meets along the way. Knowing my great grandson, I know that he will listen wide-eyed from the beginning 'til the end of the tale.

The author, Jan Karon, wrote it for her own daughter, Candace, which is also the name of the North Carolinian recipient of Jeremy, the honest bunny, in the story.

The illustrations by Teri Weidner also add a nice touch to the book. No children's book would be complete without appropriate illustrations. ... ... Read more

For a small bunny, the big world can be boiled down to "My slippers. /My pajamas. / Daddy's pajamas," and "Mother's chair. / My chair. / A low chair./ A high chair. / But certainly my chair." Back in print after more than 30years, My World by Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd is every bit asreassuring and appealing to young children as its more famous companion, Goodnight Moon. Using the sameformat, this tale features the rabbit family as they go through their day:brushing teeth, eating breakfast, going fishing, reading stories, and climbinginto bed. Black-and-white illustrations alternate with full-color scenesdepicting the ever-expanding (yet still comfortably contained) boundaries of achild's life. In one image, the young bunny, clad in blue coveralls, hammershappily on his wooden truck, while Daddy, in matching coveralls, works on hisown (real) car just outside the garage. Very young fans of the classicGoodnight Moon will delight in recognizing the characters, illustrationstyle, and gentle rhythmic words in this over-50-year-old picture book. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Gentle, Simple Masterpiece.....
Those who were raised on and loved Goodnight Moon will be thrilled to see its companion book, My World, back in print after a 30 year absence. Get reacquainted with the rabbit family as little bunny explores the safe and familiar world around him. Margaret Wise Brown's gentle, understated text: "Mother's chair./My chair./A low chair./A high chair." or "Daddy's boy./Mother's boy./My boy is just a toy./Bear" is soothing, poetic and rhythmic and beautifully complemented by Clement Hurd's engaging family scenes. In My World he alternates black and white pages featuring the simple items of little bunny's life, Daddy's toothbrush hanging beside little bunny's toothbrush, a large and small comb lying next to each other or Daddy's slippers next to bunny's own pair of slippers with full color more expansive family spreads, the family preparing and eating breakfast or all washing up and getting ready for bed. Perfect for children as young as one, My World is a comforting, reassuring, timeless treasure to be read again and again and shared and passed down to future generations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled - children love it!
When I first read this book to my then one-year old daughter, I thought it was awful! She, however, would pick it up again and again, demanding to read it. It's been one of her favorites for over 9 months. In fact, I'm about to order a new copy because the first has been "loved" to death.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book that kids love
After reading some of the disappointing reviews I felt compelled to write. This is a favorite of my son's! I think that's what we need to keep in mind is how the kids respond to it and what it's teaching. Of course it can get difficult having to read the same book five times in a row, but it's wonderful when the kids are so interested in reading! He loves seeing the differences between "my" and "daddy's" objects. The pictures are wonderful an he is mesmerized by the colors. Yes, the text is simple however it is interesting and is not sing-song ish. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars A five star review...
I see this book didn't get the best reviews. I can understand that. It appears to be a book with no meaning, but to my suprise, I found that kids see it much differently than adults. It is a concept book that contrasts things that are the childs by saying "my", and things that are someone elses, like "daddys", or "mommys". My daughter would ask questions like "is that my comb"? Anyways, it works well as a night time book. It is short and sweet, and it makes sense to kids! I think it is a really creative different book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Profoundly disappointing
After marveling at the sublime beauty of Goodnight Moon, we were extremely disappointed in My World. The illustrations are passable, but the writing is unforgivably bad. The elegant diction and serene rhythm of Goodnight moon are no where to be found. The writing in My World is insipid and lacks all the qualities that made Goodnight Moon so good. I can't believe the same author wrote both books. It's no Godfather II. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Huge Harold
Bill Peet is a fabulous writer. His rhyming technique makes his books easy to read. Huge Harold is my favorite book of Bill Peets by far.... You'll fall in love with Huge Harold. I did. In most of his books you start out feeling sorry for main character, but they all end up on top in the end. It really give you a good feeling inside. There are good morals to his stories, and I enjoy reading every one of them over and over again.

4-0 out of 5 stars in the grand tradition of rabbit fiction!
this is a sweet and funny book for kids that emphasizes the principle all rabbits know so well: do not judge, and permit everyone to live the way they want. neat drawings too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Huge Harold - I've Found You!
I am a 41 year old mother of three - when I was a child my mother used to read this book to me MANY times a day. It was by far my all time favorite. My mother passed away not quite a year ago and I thought I would surely find the book when we went through her house - it was nowhere to be found. She probably destroyed it because I'm certain she was very sick of reading it time after time (just kidding). I am purchasing this classic so I can share it with my children. I am sure they will grow to love it just as much as I did! Huge Harold is one of the greatest children's books out there - it is very easy reading and very easy to listen to. The illustrations are wonderful. A double thumbs up to Bill Peet!

Book Description

There was once a velveteen rabbit,
and in the beginning he was really splendid.

"Real" is a magical word to the Velveteen Rabbit -- he doesn't know quite what it means. But the Skin Horse, who is old and wise, knows, and he shares the secret: Being Real means being loved.

Margery Williams's classic story of how a boy's love transforms a velveteen rabbit into a real one has resonated in the hearts of children for decades. Now Lou Fancher has adapted this storybook for a younger audience, and it has been brilliantly illustrated by Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher. Here is a feast for both eye and ear -- the perfect book for any child who cherishes a stuffed animal -- and believes in magic. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rabbit Becomes Real
Margery William's The Velveteen Rabbit
Date published March1975

Rabbit Becomes Real

The Velveteen Rabbit is about a boy who gets a Velveteen Rabbit for Christmas. Soon the boy gets very ill. The boy's Nanna was instructed to throw away all the boy's toys and burn them the next day. All of a sudden, a flower blooms and does something magical.
My favorite part of the book is when the Velveteen Rabbit said to the horse "Are you real?" But my most favorite part is when the fairy comes out of the flower
I would probably recommend this book to somebody who likes fantasy and who likes reading medium size story books just for fun.
If I were to give a rating on the Velveteen Rabbit of 1-5, I would probably give it a 5. Hope you enjoy reading The Velveteen Rabbit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Memorable tale for children and adults
I was given a copy of this book while in college. My friend's message - it hurts to be loved - but it is worth it to become real. I've read this story to both of my daughters since the age of two. They are able to sit through this long tale but not others this length because the dialogue is simple and powerful - the plot has a strong build up - the boy becomes sick - and the illustrations are mesmerizing. I agree with the other reviewer who commented on the beauty of the illustrations in this edition, they are wonderful.

5-0 out of 5 stars breathtaking illustration
I've always been fond of this tale, since a university lecturer read the entire story to our psychology classes in human development many years ago. The original illustrations are wonderful, of course, but when I read this copy of the book to my 4 year old daughter, she gasped with wonder when we turned the page to reveal the drawing of the fairy. For a young child, I believe these glowing illustrations enhance the empathy the child feels for the rabbit in his journey towards becoming real. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A book....
...that I don't get tired of reading to my 4 year old daughter at bedtime. It's a fun, cute book and I just love Max and Ruby.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bunny with a one-track mind
Our kids love Max -- that he can stay focused on his own goal, regardless of the noise around him. This book is their favorite Max book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another winner with Max and Ruby!
I have adored the "Max" series by Rosemary Wells for quite sometime, as my three children absolutely loved all the Max books when they were younger. Ms. Wells manages to capture really great nuances on the faces of both Max and his sister Ruby, as well as presenting the most humorous situations for Max and Ruby.

Max wants nothing but a dragon shirt and Ruby is insisting on buying him a much-needed pair of pants, per the instructions of their mother. Max does not give up on his beloved dragon shirt and reminds Ruby every chance he gets. Ruby gets sidetracked in the store trying on dresses and Max manages to wander in the store after dozing off and not finding Ruby in the dressing room. Max finds his coveted dragon shirt, puts it on and is "found" by two policemen in the store. Well, now the dragon shirt is covered with yummy ice cream and Ruby has no choice but to purchase the shirt for Max!

The illustrations and use of color will delight any youngster, as will the antics of Ruby and Max! I love their facial expressions and even after all of these years, I still love reading these books! This was one series of book that neither I, nor my children, ever tired of reading. I find the Max and Ruby books just really classic books! My children would read them over and over again and would find them first with every library visit!

Absolutely pure delight!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great children's book with a few minor flaws...
Rosemary Wells is a gifted writer and illustrator. The story is engaging and the illustrations add to the personality of the characters. With that said, there are a couple of things that prevent me from giving this book a perfect review. The first thing is the stereotype of the younger sister. Must all younger sisters be shallow, mall dwelling half-wits? The second thing is the part of the story where Max gets lost in the store. This may frighten younger readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Max Prevails Again!
Another winner in Rosemary Wells' slyly hilarious "Max" series, this time Max and his older sister Ruby have just $5 to replace his "disgusting" pants. Max has his eyes set on a "dragon shirt," but Ruby has to get those pants.

Their ensuing misadventures in a department store take the bunny pair from "Large Appliances" to "Boy's Sportswear" (a caution: Max is momentarily lost in the store, this may or may not be frightening to your little one). With big colorful illustrations by Wells and a happy ending (well, for Max!), this is a fun story of siblings on the loose. 22 pages, with watercolor/pen and ink pictures on each page. ... I have a very picky eater and will do anything to pique his interest in different foods. This clever story is so charming that even a picky eater will want some "Rabbit Stew." The children and I love this story and always refer to how skilful the rabbits are in getting themselves out of a sticky situation while enjoying some laughs and yummy "Rabbit Stew."We also like to make a big deal of shopping for ingredients for our "Rabbit Stew" while at the grocery store.I applaud the illustrators ability in capturing the animals personalities.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tamara Petrosino is AWESOME
I guess I'm a little biased - I know the illustrator, and remember her working on the pieces for this book. I think she did a marvelous job and the book is a lot of fun. Go Tamara!

5-0 out of 5 stars My children can't get enough of this book!
My (nearly) three-year-old and my (nearly) seven-year-old keep requesting this book again and again. The story is funny yet mild. In some of the illustrations the rabbits are nearly hidden so it's almost a game to findthe rabbits. It also makes a statement about thinking someone else isn'tvery clever. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A picture book with facts and activities rolled into one
This is a great picture book with interesting cutout paper illustrations. It is a story of a (rabbit) family that goes apple picking in the fall. This is a New England tradition that I have enjoyed so the book is especially appealing to me. The family goes picking apples and the farmer goes along. The farmer explains some factual things such as how many seeds are usually in the apples and how they grow the trees from rootstock.

Each member of the family wants a different type of apple for a different purpose. The family cooks applesauce and the recipe is included. There is a song with music notations and directions for doing an apple printing craft.

This family enjoys learning about the apples and there are some factual pictures such as how the apple tree is grafted onto a root and a labeling of the parts of a bisected apple. I especially like how the story illustrates the children and parents as being interested in learning about the apples.

This is a fun storybook, a good mixture of story and facts with a few activities! This would make a great book for preschool or Kindergarten teaches, perfect for reading in the autumn or combining with a real trip to pick apples!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book for Kindergarten
As a teacher who yearly goes to the library to get books about insects, specifically bees, this is the best book ever on the subject! (The bee is our school mascot.) For two reasons:
It takes a complicated subject, how honey is produced, and makes it simple enough for 5 year olds to understand; and the handcut collage artwork is something five year olds can handle in an art unit on collage. More, please, Ms. Wallace!

5-0 out of 5 stars Apples, Apples, Apples
This is an amazingly illustrated book. The pictures are very captivating to young children.
The book not only offers a story, but great apple activities as well.
As a childcare provider, I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A delightful and entertaining picturebook story
In A Taste Of Honey, Lily Bear asks her father a great many questions and in doing so a jar of honey is traced back to Mike's Market, the honey farm, the beekeeper, the honeycomb, and ultimately to the bees themselves! Author and illustrator Nancy Wallace uses brightly colored diagrams and sidebars in this delightful and entertaining picturebook story for youngsters 4 to 8 showing all the steps of making honey from beehive to dining table in clear, simple, and engaging detail.

5-0 out of 5 stars A picture story and nonfiction in one book!
This appealing book of pictures created using papercutouts tells The story of the bunny family's outing to the apple orchard. All the aspects of picking your own apples are presented. They get to ride out to the orchard on a wagon pulled by a tractor, have to choose which varieties to pick, and the farmer weighs the apples in the end. Information about apples is presented through the apple farmer. At home applesauce is made (recipe included), an apple craft is featured and an apple song is included as well. Should be perfect for before or after your next trip to the orchard or anytime of year. I think little ones will enjoy it as much as I did! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So your kid says reading is boring, huh? Try this!
I was distressed when my 6 year-old son informed me that reading was boring. That was before he met the Dumb Bunnies. This book is hilarious, and my son's reaction to it was even more so! He was literally laughing so hard that tears were streaming down his face.

The dumb bunnies are all ready to celebrate Easter on December 24. They have Halloween decorations up around the house, and decorate an Easter tree while waiting for Santa to come in his red minivan pulled by flying Pilgrims.

This is just the sort of goofiness that a 6 year-old will really go for. And the brilliance of the book is that it makes kids think! They are excited to figure out what the dumb bunnies have gotten all wrong, and what should have been done instead. If goofy is what it takes to get kids to read, then I say "Hooray for goofiness!"

Don't try this for bedtime reading, though, because it will wind your little ones up tight!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes silliness is a virtue, too
Every year I give my nephew a book for Easter. Last year it was "The Country Bunny and the Golden Shoes", an excellent book that I would recommend to the previous reviewer if it's an uplifting tale you're looking for. This year, however, he gets "Dumb Bunnies". Why? Because it's silly, funny, and will make him laugh out loud. And, in my opinion, it's harmless fun. Wouldn't the world be greater if we all had a little silliness in our lives?

5-0 out of 5 stars The Dumb Bunnie's Easter
I thought this book was very humorous. It was very sweet and I thought the bunny was a good character to choose for this book. Also, It had a higher level of intelligence which was noticeable in the book although they portrayed the book as "dumb." That's exactly what the characters were.

5-0 out of 5 stars 6 year old can't stop laughing
My six year old son loves this book, and all of the Dumb Bunnies books for that matter. They are silly and he has had a great time reading them.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE DUMB BUNNIES SERIES
I HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS COLLECTION OF BOOKS IS THE BEST.MY TWO BOYS, SINCE THEY WERE ABOUT 3 YEARS OLD, HAVE NOT STOPPED READING THESE OVER AND OVER.THEY LAUGH EVERY SINGLE TIME THAT THEY READ THEM. 4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun for parents and kids
The illustrations in this book are top notch -- vivid colors, with excellent detail on the rabbit. There are no backgrounds, but that's okay, because that's not what the book is about. One of the fun things about this book is onomatopoeia: it helps to get the parent involved.

Not suprisingly, a book about colors also has a social message, and in this case it is well done: it doesn't hit you over the head like other children's books. It's also a bit of a surprise because there's no hint of it until the last page.

Overall a fun book to share.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teaching the Colors.
Out of all the books at the day care center I worked at, this by far was the favorite and most requested book of the kids. I don't know why, but whether the unit for the week was colors, animals, or Easter this book had to be read several times during story time and was often read just for fun. Surprisingly, none of we teachers ever tired of reading the book. The copy of the book at the center was read so many times that the back cover literally fell off. The book uses a white rabbit to illustrate how by mixing primary colors, secondary colors are made. Not only that but the book helps introduce children to "sensations" that colors can cause; for example white rabbit thinks dunking in blue will feel cool and that red is sizzling. A wonderful little book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This is a great book for little ones. It is my baby's favorite book at this time. He is almost 13 months old and I can sit and read him this book over and over again and he is interested each time. He tries to read it himself! It's a cute book with great pictures and not too many words so you can turn the pages quickly keeping your child's interest and still read the whole story. I haven't read the other little rabbit books yet, but intend to get them all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Short but sweet!
This book is very simple, very vivid, and very sweet. The little bunny's sweet, curious personality pulls you into the book and keeps young ones turning the pages. My daughter has enjoyed this book over the past year and a half and still pulls it out to look and point at the silly "bunny".

5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable
My two-year old likes the pictures of the adorable bunny as it bathes in the paint, showers, etc. I'm sure as she gets older she'll begin to understand the mixing of colors, which is presented so simply and delightfully here. I wish this were available as a board book, so adventurous painters don't have to worry about staining the pages if they read this while experimenting! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Rosemary Wells Winner!
"Another Rosemary Wells Winner!"
Rosemary Wells has written another winner with Ruby's Tea for Two. The story follows her usual pattern: older sister Ruby tries to dictate how an activity should take place, in this case a tea party. Best friend Louise (who owns the tea set) is invited. Little brother Max is not. "One chocolate and one strawberry, please," Ruby orders newly appointed waiter Max. As usual, one-track mind Max is determined to get his way. The devious expression in Max's eyes is reason enough to get this latest addition to this lively series. The Max and Ruby books are such a hit in our house that my 3.5-year-old daughter renamed her younger sister "Max"- and she answers to it! While we saw this particular story first on TV's Nick Jr., both my girls request the book version over and over. I also recommend the recently released Max Drives Away. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gave me goosebumps...
...I was reading this book to our baby and was totally engrossed by it. I read each page slowly, letting words sink in while I admired the beautiful illustrations. I was reading this book thinking that it was a very lovely book when I got to the last page and got a tear in my eye and goosebumps. THIS BOOK IS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. A MUST for babies-parents.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love it THIS MUCH!
I really love this book. Maybe it's because it was a gift from me to my son for Valentine's day or because I get to read it to him. I enjoyed all 3 books included because it was short enough for a typical toddlers short attention span, and it was heartwarming because we got to hug and cuddle and show how much we love each other afterwards. This is a great book to share with those you LOVE.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love The Love Library
I am a mother of an 18 month old and a child care provider of children 12 months to 5 years in age. I got these books as a Valentine's Day present for my daughter and she loved them. She especially liked Hug, and asked me to read all 3 of them to her over and over (She brings the book and puts it in my hand as she sits on my lap). The children in my care like them just as much. In fact, Hug was the first book the 5 year old in my care read. She may not know how to read yet, but she recognizes letters and she memorized (by sight) the 3 simple words on the book (you read right, 3 words repeated at different times). She felt so proud that she could read a book to the babies. It gave her a wonderful boost in her self-esteem! The books are beautiful and simple, the way books should be for this age group. I would recomend it for parents of babies and toddlers especially. Some preschoolers may find them too simple for parents to read to them, but they may like them to try to read themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Guess How Much I Love You
This book is one of my favorites to read to my children because it expresses just how a parent feels for their child. I am not a gushy person, but I too get choked up on the last page. A must for any new parent.

1-0 out of 5 stars Guess how much I hate this book
This book has pictures and a story that are supposed to be cute and may be that to some people. I couldn't stomach reading this to my child more than once. If you want to hear yourself repeating "little nut brown hair" and "big nut brown hair" countless times, then by all means buy this book. The pictures are soft pastel and are not very exciting for young children. My child (14 months old) loves this book the least. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitive Max
Ruby and Max's interactions are so simply stated, yet so representative of sibling and even parent/child relationships. Rosemary Wells makes me react (in this case, laugh) along with my child as we read about Ruby and Max's conversations and adventures. I consider that a sign of a good children's book....a truly shared experience.

In this particular book, the readers get a great perspective on Max, whose usual, simple verbalizations are evident (his one and only word is BANG!) but also made evident are the wheels that are constantly turning in his brain, when he, without prompt, comes out with "Delicious!" after biting into an apple. A good reminder that even our littlest ones are watching and learning even before they are talking.

Another short, simple, sweet Max and Ruby book to share with your child.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute story, but taxing text.
Let me introduce Max, and his older sister Ruby if you are not already familiar with these endearing little bunnies. Max is generally the mischievous one, while big sister Ruby is helpful, but often bossy. In this short story Ruby attempts to teach Max some new words as his first, and only word is BANG. She starts with CUP, then try's POT, BROOM, FISH, EGG, CHAIR and finally APPLE. In the end, Max takes a big bite out of the apple and triumphantly declares it DELICIOUS! "MAX's First Word," is a charming account of brotherly and sisterly love, and teaches a few words too. I love that Max's first word is BANG, kid's love hearing, BANG, BANG, BANG.

The text is very short; only ten pages long, and incorporates humor, which is always desirable. This little board book measures 7" x 7" x ΒΌ", and is simply illustrated, yet the images are colorful and expressive for easy comprehension. I found "MAX's First Word," difficult to read aloud. There are TOO many "he said/ she said's" in this story, as in many of Ms. Wells books. For instance, the story begins, "Max's one word was BANG! No, Max, said sister, Ruby. Say CUP. BANG, said Max." The wording is awkward to read out loud, and does not flow. Cute story, yet taxing text. Birth and up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everybody's favorite book
This is absolutely my son's favorite book, and has been since he was about 11 months old. He will sort through all of his books, pick this one, and come toddling over to me-grinning from ear to ear-and sit down in my lap to have it read to him. The fun of it is, its particular brand of humor has not gotten old for me, either.

We have introduced the book to several friends and their children. The adults have all become Rosemary Wells addicts (like us) and the children always drag it out to hear it, asking "Bang? Bang?" I respect Wells' books because she is able to write stories simple enough for infants and toddlers to enjoy, full of clear pictures, that can still make parents laugh every time, too.

3-0 out of 5 stars VERY DIFFICULT TO READ
Our 14 month daughter loves this book but we hate it. The story is cute and she loves the pictures but it is very difficult to read. The words do not flow and I found myself having to read it slowly because what I was reading did not sound right. The sentence POT,Max,said Ruby. BANG,said Max is harder to read out loud than you think. Your child will probably love it , you probably won`t.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just like some siblings I know
There isn't a Max book for every occasion, and I hope there never will be. Max and his older sister Ruby are too much like real siblings to ever get stuck in the formulaic series rut. In fact, Ruby and Max are so much like my two oldest kids that I use the Max books to help my son deal with the frustrations of being the "little brother."

In one of the first books, Ruby is trying to expand toddler Max's vocabulary. He knows one word -- BANG -- and uses it often, with accompanying gestures. Ruby shows Max a cup. "Say CUP," she commands. "Bang," he replies. She shows him a pot, a broom, and egg, naming each item. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. He's still not catching on and now there's raw egg all over the floor.

Exasperated, Ruby helps Max into his high chair and shows him an apple, "Say APPLE, Max. YUM YUM, Max. Say YUM YUM."

Max takes a bite of the apple, then holds it aloft and repeats the new word he's learned. "DELICIOUS!"

The Max board books are great for babies and toddlers. If your kids are older, check out the picture books, which are even better than the board books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars silly & fun
My son and I have read this book numerous times. I never tire of the beatifully detailed pictures and the silly listening errors made by Buddy Bunny. You will love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious book to read, I had as much fun as the kids.
This is a very funny story of a little bunny, who is cabable of hearing things correctly, but rarely does. This is pretty annoying to Buddy's parents, but still Buddy isn't really motivated to listen more carefully until he mixes up some directions and runs into trouble. Luckily dear Buddy gets out of the jam unscathed, and ready to do some fine listening, too.

Really is one of the more fun stories to read. ... Read more
