5-0 out of 5 stars Bunny love is a child's first true love story!
This book is a beautiful book about love an family. My son, age 2, wants us to read this book daily and he loves it and listens intently while looking at the gorgeous illustrations. This book is one that I would recommend for families with adoptive children. In the book "Mommy Rabbit" has three "little honeys". The first little honey is her own bunny, the second is little duckling, and the third is miss mouse. It makes a point in the second story in the book "All together now", to say that even though miss mouse and little duckling don't look like bunnies, Mommy Bunny is their mommy just the same. I would recommend it to anyone for their children at any age, it's a great story to share between mother and child. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Enchanting Rewrite of a Classic Tale"
"Hello, Beautiful!" whispers three-year-old Max to his strawberry cupcake. Seven-year old sister Ruby steps in to foil his nighttime snack raid. In Greek mythology, King Midas had a golden touch. In Ruby's bedtime story, little prince Midas has a sweet touch - or tooth. His expressive "laser-beam" eyes transform yucky veggies into delicious desserts. But he zaps his unsuspecting family into sweets as well.

The text is more detailed than a typical Max and Ruby board book written for toddlers. The advanced vocabulary includes words such as pomegranate, persuading, escalarium (a word created for this book, I believe), banister, and drainpipes. When Max zaps his mother, I had to explain to my daughter, who is slightly younger than the recommended reader level of 4 - 8 years, that mom had been changed into the cherry float. Otherwise my daughter followed the story line down to the unexpected ending. If you enjoy Wells' magical Greek myth, then try Max and Ruby's First Greek Myth: Pandora's Box. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good For Many Ages
Grandma bought this for my daughter when she was about 6 months old. It was an instant favorite then and has continued to be one of our "top 5" most read books. As a baby, my daughter loved the rhyming text. When she began talking, she had fun first pointing to familiar objects and later naming what the bunnies were doing in the playground. Now, at 2, she loves counting the bunnies on each page as "one more" enters the playground. A fun game is to ask her to find the new bunny that was added. This has been a fun book and a really versatile teaching tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Detailed
This is a wonderful and highly underrated children's book and should be a classic in any parent's library. The writing and illustrations are incredibly detailed and every time I read the book I discover something new. It is a shame that the author / illustrator have not create many more books together.

This book has become a standard gift that my wife and I give to all new parents, and I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I learned a lot!!!!
I checked this book out for my own young children, thinking they would like the "cute bunny pictures". But I learned a lot by reading it to them! learned, for example, how the date for Easter is determined, why do we have baskets, and more. The really cool thing about this book is that it is at a reading level that my struggling 3rd grade students at school can even read! I now use it for reading instruction, plus the pictures are cool for the kids. It is something I look forward to every year. I highly recommend it for children of all ages, read-aloud or independently. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A mysterious good book
The title of my book is The celery stalks at midnight. The book is about
three pets named Howie,Chester, and Harold. They are finding a rabbit
named Bunnicula. He is a rabbit that is a vampire and sucks the juices
out of living things. One night bunnicula escaped from his cage and went
out to suck juices out of vegetables. All three of them went to find him. They keep looking and looking. Finally they found him and took him
home to his family. The three of them went home and relaxed.I think the

book is great. Other people should like it too. It's a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bunnicula the vampire bunny is on the loose.
Bunnicula is a vampire bunny and he is on the loose. The Monroes, the family who owns Bunnicula, really don't have a clue about his escape. Bunnicula's pals Harold, Chester, and Howie are there to track him down in order to stop disaster. Chester has a theory that if Bunnicula bites the vegetables in everyone's garden they will turn into vampire vegetables and then attack the town. The message to the readers relays that ones mind can jump to many conclusions from the simple to the bazaar. Chester's idea of what may happen is defiantly leaning towards the bazaar. I like Celery Stalks at Midnight because the author told the story using animals which creates a hilarious picture in my mind.I recommend this book to all ages because of the animals and the mysterious happenings.

4-0 out of 5 stars Buy it because of Bunnicula, keep it because of Garber
Bunnicula is one of those great series of books that treats kids intelligently and therefore is fun for kids-at-heart adults too.

I love Victor Garber's interpretation of each character's voice. Quite versatile at changing up intonations and pitch, he seemlessly moves between teenage boys, goofy Howie and the more prim and proper Chester. I cracked up everytime Garber said 'Uncle HAHrold' in Howie's voice. VG also delivers the straight narrative parts in a nice rhythm that reflects the author's amusing sequences of puns with colorful imagery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I loved the book and if your thinking about buying it go for it.However if you haven't read Bunnicula and Howliday Inn your really missing out on some great books and you should get those too!

In this celebration of reading, a giddy brown and white rabbit capersthrough the woods, singing the praises of his little storybook. From the way hisbook looks and feels, to the places he can go in it, to the fantasticalcharacters he can meet, the bookworm bunny thoroughly enjoys his tiny tome.Anita Jeram, illustrator of Sam McBratney's Guess How Much I Love You,brings to life another lovable bunny in this jaunty romp. The playfulillustrations show friendly lions, a vibrant lake, and a tree-palace whereBeauty lies sleeping while unicorns graze below. Unfortunately, the narrative israther insipid, and the rabbit's repeated accolades are cloying. Children may beable to get beyond that more easily than their parents, and everyone shouldenjoy the concept of adventuring through the magic of the written (andillustrated) word. 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!
I got this book 22 years ago for my daughter. It has always been her favorite story. When she went to college and found out that it was a banned book in the 50s because of the racial theme she was amazed. It is a delightful story of two sweet little rabbits who find happiness together. The illustrations are beautiful. I love the use of yellow as the only real color.

5-0 out of 5 stars Endearing Story for Children-Great Illustrations!
The story line is wonderful and the emotions on the rabbits' faces are priceless. This is one of my favorite childrens' stories. I love Garth Williams illustrations. I have read this to pre-school and elementary children. They all giggle when they see the emotions on the shy little black bunnies face. This book is a must have! I am sorry that Amazon Books does not have a cover picture to show you how great the illustrations really are!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story... Beautifully Illustrated!
This is a book for young children. This is a simple, absolutely beautifully illustrated hardcover book. Each entire page is fully illustrated by the incomparable Gareth Williams, who illustrated many very famous children's books, and the story flows along simply and easily.

I loved this story because it gives little children an easy way to comprehend a marriage and why people have a wedding. The two rabbits decide they want to be together "forever and ever" and so they have a wedding, to celebrate their decision. It's very sweet and simple.

The sentiments at the end of the book are just as deliciously sweet. "And the little rabbit was never sad again.." How wonderful! A lovely thing to teach children.... how marriage is meant to make two people happy forever. A pleasant idea in this era of anti-committment-single-parents.

I shake my head in confusion at someone who would try to say this book contains racial themes. The rabbits are different colors, let's not "read into" a 4 year old's book. When adults start reading racial themes into a toddler's book, they personify why bigotry exists in the first place.

I purchased this book as a gift for our 4 year old ring-bearer in our upcoming wedding, as he is very excited about weddings and trying to understand why his Uncle Johnny and I are having one. This book is delightful and very beautiful. The rabbits facial expressions are just precious. I am going to re-purchase this book for myself after giving it to my new nephew.

In review, this book is very simple, very beautiful and fun to read to little ones. Recommmended! I loved it.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little too subtle...
This story of a black rabbit and a white rabbit who fall in love is intended to give young readers a message about different races living in harmony, but it is so subtle; I'm afraid its intended audience will completely miss the point. And without that point, there isn't much of a story left. The book is beautifully illustrated, but adults looking for a "message book" will find better choices without looking terribly hard.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinairly Precious
This is a sweet sweet story and the illustrations are especially endearing. The expressions on the rabbits faces, and hilarious detail to their feet, paws, etc, make this a must have for any childs library. It is excellent to give as a gift... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good story and fun to pat the animals
Poor Fluffy Bunny. He doesn't believe his family has time for him. So he embarks on a quest to find one that will. On his journey, Fluffy Bunny meets various animals, and the interactive book allows your child to pat the fur (or feathers) of these animals. (Don't worry animal lovers, no real fur or feathers are used in the book. Or at least my copy didn't have any!)

In the tradition of interactive books (like "Pat the Bunny"), "Fluffy Bunny" will entertain your youngster, and offer a few nice lessons about family. And, of course, it's cool to pat all those furry little animals.

On his thrilling carriage ride, Max goes down a hill, over a bump, up in the air, and back into his carriage that stops in a huge pile of leaves!Rosemary Wells's original four Max Board Books, published in 1979 by Dial and followed by an additional four in 1985, were the first high-quality board books in the U.S. and became immediate classics. Total sales of the eight books were over 1.2 million! But more important, they have been loved by millions of children. For the next generation Rosemary Wells has now completely re-illustrated all eight delightful Max books in her bold, new full-color style. These wonderful stories with real characters are funnier than ever. They are terrific first books, especially with the increased focus on the importance of reading to babies and toddlers, a cause that Mrs. Wells has been wholeheartedly promoting for several years with her The Most Important 20 Minutes of Your Day reading program and now the Prescription for Reading Initiative. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Delightful tale, but awkward to read aloud.
Join Max and Ruby on a ride through UP, DOWN, and in BETWEEN. Max, the playful little bunny and his big sister Ruby are at it again in this charming little board book titled "MAX's Ride." Older sister Ruby stands on top of a hill holding the handle of a baby carriage (or shall I say "bunny" carriage) while little brother Max is seated inside primed for the ride of his life. "GO! said Max. DOWN went Max. STOP said Ruby." Max flies OVER a bump, OUT of the carriage, and UP into the air. Ruby runs UNDER a clothesline in an attempt to catch him. Max sails BETWEEN two trees, slides back INTO the carriage, and crashes into a pile of newly fallen leaves, "STOP said Max." This is a delightful little tale about two mischievous bunnies, that teaches verbs and prepositions.

The text is very short, it is only ten pages long, and Ruby's expression when she prepares to let go of the carriage is priceless. "MAX's Ride," is a board book that measures 7" x 7" x ΒΌ". The illustrations are bright, colorful and expressive, however, the wording is a little awkward to read aloud, but not as difficult as some of the author's other books. Birth and up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Max shares his ride with my family
My fourteen month old daughter loves this book. She carries it around with her wanting it to be read to her all of the time. When you open the first page she shouts GO! (the first word on the first page). The pages have only a few words on them keeping my daughter's attention. The words are very descriptive and make this book very easy to animate. You can take your child along with Max on his ride as you go up, down, over and between-- all the while she is bouncing on your knee.

5-0 out of 5 stars GO! said Max.
I love this book. My five-month-old daughter seems to love it too, and wants me to read it to her over and over. Maybe it's because I get such enjoyment out of it and it's contagious. The final spread, with Max's dopey, happy expression is gorgeous, and I can imagine him saying STOP with a satisfied, exhilirated sigh.

5-0 out of 5 stars Max's Ride
Rosemary Wells' "Max" books are wonderful and we especially love them for our first grandson, born February 16, 2000 because his name is MAX! Our Max's mom has four of the Max series and we have just ordered four more. The board books are easy for a young baby to see and for the mother to handle while also handling the baby! The colors are bright and Max is an endearing character. Great books to start a baby on the road to reading! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great message Great read
Finklehopper Frog has a terrific sense of style!
In a time in which my 2 and 4 year old girls are bombarded with images of princesses, its great to read about "real" characters with real feelings.
Finklehopper and his friend Ruby are willing to try the very things that frighten them. They take a risk that doesn't pay off in the usual sense (she loses the race) but pays off big in the lesson learned sense.

This is a really cute story with several terrific messsages! I love to read the witty, poetic lines outloud to my children.

My girls have replaced Barbie with a new favorite! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Nature Explained
The First Forest

I recommend the book for kids who like learning about nature. I don't recommend the story for kids who are looking for an action story because there is only one main character.. It's neat how trees and the ways they get their leaves are explained at the end of the story. It reminds me of a folktale from Africa because it explains how something in nature happens.

Did you ever wonder why some trees stay green all year round and others lose their leaves? This book tells a wonderful, interesting tale about how the forest was created, how the trees got to be what they are and about how they fought for the sun. It shows us that we need to get along, share, and be kind to one another so that we can all survive and be happy. Bullies are punished, but still are loved and encouraged to improve. This is a great legend filled with colorful illustrations. Please read The First Forest, by John Gile and enjoy

I recommend the book "The First Forest" written by John Gile. The story explains how greed is not good and it caused fighting among the trees.
The story also explains how and why the evergreen trees got their name and why they are green year round. ... Read more
