I breed rabbits and I continually come back to this book for reference. It is a great book and well worth it, whether you are going to breed, show, or just own a rabbit as a pet. I recomend it to everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book well worth the price!!
Recently added to the New York State 4-H list of recommended books for the Rabbit Project Curriculum, Nancy Searle has done an excellent job of organizing information about the care of rabbits. Well-written, but easy enough for a child to understand, as well as adults.

5-0 out of 5 stars It was great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just gorgeous!
My 3 yr old and 4 year old took instantly to this book --especially Max's iconoclastic take on how to play beauty shop "his way" and the blonde bombshell wig. Grandma always makes a wise choice at the end of these stories, but the real fun is in the illustrations, the expressions on the bunnies' faces, and Rosemary Wells' understated sense of humor. The whole series is fun for the kids and even the adults who have to read the story to them nightly. Both kids are enchanted and now playing "beauty shop" is a standard pastime for them. If you like this one, you'll also enjoy Bunny Party and Bunny Money.

5-0 out of 5 stars A boy ecides to play Beauty Shop his way
Ruby and her friend Louise have everything they need for their new beauty shop - except somebody to try it out on. Enter brother Max, who becomes the guinea pig in their experiments. True to Max form, however, he decides to play Beauty Shop his way - with revolutionary results.

4-0 out of 5 stars More Max & Ruby
Max gets made over by Ruby and her friend Louise. When Ruby and Louise gets distracted, Max decides its his turn to have fun!

This book may be called "Ruby's Beauty Shop", but for me, the hero is always Max. If you're a Max and Ruby fan looking for another Max and Ruby book, you'll find this book to be a lot of fun. Rosemary Wells avoids falling into a formula with this new book showing Ruby playing pretend with a friend. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Anyone can be brave, even if those who are small and cute
This was one of my favourite books as a child, and I'm here to buy it for my little cousin.

In this tail, all the woodland animals describe how they feel; the owl feels wise, the lion feels brave, the bear feels strong. Leo the Lop says he feels brave, but the other animals scoff, saying he is too small and cute. When there is a forest fire, however, only little Leo can crawl under the choking smoke to guide the other animals to safety, proving that it does not matter what you look like on the outside, but what you have on the inside that counts.

As usual, this Serendipity book is beautifully illustrated and ends with a little poem giving the moral, most of which I remember all these years later. I highly recommend this book for all young folks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A lovely way to end the day & introduce the concept of time
My children love this book at bedtime. No it won't have them telling time at age 3; but it will represent a full day of activities (of preschool age children) and very nicely introduce at least the concept of time. "Who will take a walk with me, Mother Bunny says at three" "Pull the paper from the drawer, bunnies begin art at four". "Hungry bunnies all arrive in the dining room at five". "Bunnies think that books are heaven, story time begins at seven". The illustrations are detailed, colorful and very attractive -- definitely that of a keepsake book. It's a sweet story of a full bunny day in simple rhymes that my children can now say with me. I highly recommend this book as well as "So Many Bunnies". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this sweet little story!
I've been reading this book to my daughter for years (she's 4 now). It's a simple story, beautifully illustrated that touches on shyness, friendship and helping others.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Lovely Story.
Our 22 month old daughter loved the book the moment we read it. This is a wonderful story about a rabbit offering to help a bird hide away from the rain and becoming a good friend. We re-read it 5 times in the first sitting and this book continues to be a staple bedtime read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Will you be my friend: A Bunny and a Bird Story.
This is a darling story of how a bunny and bird become friends. The pictures are soft and look like water colors. I have read this book to my preschool children (4-5 year olds) and they loved it! Book Description

The more Max bathes, the dirtier he gets! Boat! he exclaims as his cup of sherbet slowly sinks in the tub. After two baths and one shower, he's finally clean. But RubyRosemary Wells's original four Max Board Books, published in 1979 by Dial and followed by an additional four in 1985, were the first high-quality board books in the U.S. and became immediate classics. Total sales of the eight books were over 1.2 million! But more important, they have been loved by millions of children. For the next generation Rosemary Wells has now completely re-illustrated all eight delightful Max books in her bold, new full-color style. These wonderful stories with real characters are funnier than ever. They are terrific first books, especially with the increased focus on the importance of reading to babies and toddlers, a cause that Mrs. Wells has been wholeheartedly promoting for several years with her The Most Important 20 Minutes of Your Day reading program and now the Prescription for Reading Initiative. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Cute but confusing
This book was cute but in one way it was a little confusing. Max and Max's sister appear to be about the same size in most of the pictures so on a first read through I was confused as to why Max was talking in single words and his sister in full ten word fully grammatical sentences. Then it dawned on my that he was supposed to be a lot younger than she was? The pictures are cute, the story charming but I wish Max had been drawn as much smaller so that he was obviously a younger brother. It would have made more sense to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Adorable tale about clean and dirty.
Laugh aloud with Max, as his big sister Ruby endeavors to give him a bath. Max, a typical little "boy" bunny has just finished eating his lunch, and as with most toddlers, half of his lunch is all over him rather than in his belly. Big sister Ruby decides Max needs a bath, so as he waits for the tub to fill, Max enjoys some orange sherbet, and a cup of grape juice. He decides his bath would be more fun eating the sherbet in the water, so as one can expect, the sherbet finds its way into the bathwater and Ruby must start over. The same thing happens with the grape juice; consequently Ruby decides to give Max a shower, "You're going in the shower to get CLEAN, said Ruby." The story ends with Max pointing at Ruby's dress saying, "DIRTY," because in her attempt to bathe her little brother, she accumulates bits of orange sherbet and grape juice all over her dress. Max's expression is priceless!

"MAX's Bath," is an adorable tale about clean and dirty that any "bunny" will find amusing. This little board book measures 7" x 7" x ΒΌ", and is simply illustrated; yet the images are colorful and expressive for easy comprehension. The text is very short; only ten pages long, and embraces humor, which is always popular among children and adult alike. Birth and up.

5-0 out of 5 stars A rare toddler book that parents love
This is one of the Max board book series that also includes Max's Birthday, Max's Toys, and Max's Bedtime. They are supposedly intended for children from birth to age 2 or so. There are also several non-board books about Max (Max's Chocolate Chicken, and Bunny Money are my favorites) with longer stories designed for slightly older children.

Forget the designated ages. I told my teenage son I had written a couple of reviews of children's books for Amazon and he said, "Don't forget to review Max." He STILL loves them, and wants everyone to know how good they are. When he was 10, he loved reading them to his baby sister, and I understood how he felt. When he was a toddler, the Max books were the only children's books I read that REALLY made me laugh.

Max and Ruby are brother and sister bunnies. Ruby's a little bossy. Max always gets around her in the end. But their relationship remains a genuinely sweet and loving one. Small children, I think, just love the clean-lined, simple pictures, and the striking expressions on Max and Ruby's faces. But any adult or older child who reads the books will see Max as one of the great trickster characters of all times, and Rosemary Wells as one of the most insightful writers around on sibling rivalry.

Do NOT let any child - yours or anyone else's you know - get through being a toddler without meeting Max.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really good books for 1 to 2 year olds
These Max books, by Rosemary Wells, make terrific gifts. The board books have about 8-10 pages. The story is told with words and pictures. Max, and his sister Ruby (who is the caretaker) are quite adorable themselves. They have fun even while doing chores - taking baths, going to sleep. These books are easy enough that kids feel they are "reading" them quickly. They can also identify with the activities in the books.

In this one, Max takes a bath, with grape juice and sherbet joining him as "boats." Eventually a second bath is required, and finally, it's Ruby who needs a bath!

For a kid named Max, a few of these are a terrific gift (after all, he'll get a ton of Sendaks).

5-0 out of 5 stars hooray for max
WE LOVE MAX BOOKS! We have a couple of these greatly written, superbly illustrated books! Max just appeals tremendously to toddlers! My 2 yr old loves all of max's messiness and his sisters non stop job to get him clean! Cute bath book, about cleaning up. A 'SURE HIT'. ... Read more

"I cannot draw you a picture of Peter and Benjamin underneath the basket," writes Beatrix Potter in The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, "because it was quite dark, and because the smell of onions was fearful; it made Peter Rabbit and little Benjamin cry." Beatrix Potter's animal stories, the first of which was published in 1902, have been a joy to generations of young readers. This deluxe volume collects all of Beatrix Potter's 23 Peter Rabbit tales and verses together--complete and unabridged--in one book. All the original illustrations, both color and black and white, are included. The stories are arranged in the order in which they were first published to enable them to be read in the proper sequence, from A Tale of Peter Rabbit to The Tale of Little Pig Robinson. Beatrix Potter's tales were often connected with real places, people, or animals, so each story also includes a brief introductory note about its history. For example, "The story of naughty Peter Rabbit in Mr. McGregor's garden first appeared in a picture letter Beatrix Potter wrote to Noel Moore, the young son of her former governess, in 1893." In addition to the original 23 tales, this edition contains two early narrative picture sequences, Three Little Mice and The Rabbit's Christmas Party. And, there are two charming little stories, The Sly Old Cat and The Fox and the Stork, which were originally intended to be worked up into books, but remained unpublished. This beautiful introduction to the world of Beatrix Potter is sure to remain on the family bookshelf for generations to come. (Baby to Preschool) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous book!
Hubby & I bought this book for our 9 month old daughter. Beatrix Potter is my personal favorite in childrens books. We love the illustrations & the stories are wonderful. Baby loves this book! A must have for parents who are building a book collection for their child. A timeless classic. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Irresistible cuddly animals with human personalities.
Beatrix Potter acquired her love and knowledge of animals and the countryside during family holidays in Scotland. She also had animals as her constant companions as a child. She sketched and observed them for hours at a time.

Beatrix Potter's books have never lost their popularity. They are sold by the millions and have been translated into over fifteen languages. While her first story in 1902, "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" was published in a small edition by Frederick Warne, within a year it was an instant best seller.

This deluxe volume is a collection of all twenty-three tales and some previously unpublished works. The stories are arranged in the order of publication as several are linked together by events or familiar characters.

Both the watercolors and black and white illustrations have been included. Children will adore the rhyming names of goosey gander and pig-wig. The animals seem to almost take on human personalities. In fact, these magical stories are often connected with real people places or animals.

Little girls who have a doll house will love "The Tale of Two Bad Mice," in which two hungry mice try to eat the artificial plaster doll food. Even at my age I found it irresistibly amusing. These little animals just have such great personalities.

5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Book
I read the stories of Beatrix Potter when I was a child and now share them with my own kids. Also check out the book Original Animals by Michael Horton as a great bedtime storybook with morals and wonderful stories. You'll be happy you did!

5-0 out of 5 stars always a kid

5-0 out of 5 stars Book for a lifetime of fun reading
I purchased these tales for my eldest, who's now 17, when she was four. They were and continue to be great stories for her. She reads them to children when she babysits! Now I've purchased this book for my youngest, who's four. She just loves hearing the stories. She looks forward to "reading time" in bed just before she falls asleep as she goes from one adventure to another. I HIGHLY recommend this book for young and old alike. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ten Little Rabbits
This was OUR bedtime book for both of my boys when they were very little. We knew it by heart and could chant the text at times of stress to calm them down. WE/I love this book. Just read it again to my 8 year old and am going to buy it for my 2 month old nephew!

1-0 out of 5 stars Reinforces Negative Steryotypes of Native Americans
This book reinforces many stereotypes about Native Americans, including ideas like "they all wear feathers and live in tepees." Books and songs like this, which count Indians as if they were objects, are considered derogatory and offensive to most Native Americans. If you don't understand this, try saying the words to the rhyme "one little, two little, three little Indians" and substitute "whitie," "Jew," or any other racial or ethnic group in place of "Indian." Would a book like this ever sell or even be tolerated? Help to teach your children or students to view Native Americans as a diverse group of people with many highly developed cultures!

Positive books about Native Americans...
-Do not count them or treat them as objects.
-Do not use words like "victory," "conquest," or "massacre" to distort historical events.
-Do not use insulting terms such as "brave," "squaw," "papoose," "Indian givers," or "wild Indians."
-Do not teach "Indians" only at Thanksgiving, but as a regular part of American history.
-Show Native peoples as separate from each other, with unique cultures, languages, spiritual beliefs, and dress.
-Depict modern day Native Americans as well as those from history. (Yes, they are still here, and no they do not live in tepees.)
-In general, be careful of books about Native Americans that are not written by a Native author and/or do not specify which tribe or nation the story depicts.

Some good books to start with are: those by Joseph Bruchac such as "How Chipmunk Got His Stripes," and "Eagle Song," "Byron Through the Seasons" by La Roche Children, "Mama's Little One" by Kristina Heath, "Jingle Dancer" by Cynthia Leitich Smith Swamp, "Giving Thanks: A Native American Good Morning Message" by Jake Swamp, and "A Rainbow at Night: The World in Words and Pictures" by Bruce Hucko and Navajo Children.

If you are looking for a counting book, why not try "Ten Little Bunnies" by Robin Spowart, Eileen Christelow's series of Five Little Monkey books, "123 A Family Counting Book" by Bobbie Combs, or "Counting Kisses" by Karen Katz?

5-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful Counting book
Having Native American children I am always looking for books for them. I purchased this for my 18 month old (hard cover version). He loves to look at it. He will pull it out at least once a day to look at it. I've even noticed his 8 year old brother sneaking a peek more than once. I love the vibrant, without being bright, illustrations. They are intracate yet simple. The rabbits are adorable. The book starts with one rabbit and continues through to 10. The rabbits are in Native American regalia and doing traditional Native activites

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for indian study and patterns.
I have read this book to my first grade class during a unit on indians as well as used the patterns in the blankets during a pattern unit in math. The children want to read it again and again!! A great read and a great resource for teachers. My students enjoy making sack puppets and designing their own blanket and then acting out the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Praise for "Ten Little Rabbits"
A clever variation on the 10 little Indians theme, this book adds instead of subtracts, and no one gets killed. Beginning with one lonely traveler, the book progresses to 10 sleepy weavers "knowing day is done." Each picture shows rabbits attired in Native American constumes and engaged in activites - fishing, hunting, weaving, storytelling - common to Indians. The illustrations are gorgeous. Though light in touch, they carry an admirable visual weight. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 18 month old loves this book
We read this book at least once a day to our 18-month old son, who now looks for "bunny holes" whenever we go for a walk. It's nice to have a short format book for Curious George-obsessed kids under two.

5-0 out of 5 stars Curious George and the Bunny
I got this book for my daughter's first birthday. She loved it, and asked for it again and again. She's almost two now and still asks for it sometimes. It's a charming story about a baby bunny lost and found. At one, I doubt my daughter could have enjoyed a full-length Curious George book. This was a wonderful way to introduce her to the character and whet her appetite for more when she is older.

5-0 out of 5 stars Curious George without the naughtiness! Yippee!
I adore Curious George but had struggled with the idea of buying the books for my son because George is always so naughty but ends up being a hero in the end. That is not a great lesson for the pre-school set, I think! He NEVER gets in trouble. In fact, great accolades are usually the result of his failure to behave and follow instructions to stay home. The only bad review for this book is from someone who writes, rightly, that this board book is just an excerpt from Curious George Flies a Kite. That's true but that's why I LOVE THIS BOOK! It gives me the opportunity to expose my son to this much beloved character without teaching him the lesson that misbehavior is acceptable. This version is fabulous. It is a great length and has the lovely illustrations that I remember so fondly as a child. That said, the way in which George "helped the bunny out" of the hole (by pulling the bunny's tail) provides a good opportunity to discuss handling animals gently with your kids! :>) Otherwise, terrific!

5-0 out of 5 stars The only book my 17th month-old really interacts with
We have a huge library of board and picture books. We read three to my son every night. This book is his absolute favorite. It is the only one that gets more of a response than just "doggie!" or "choo-choo".

My son laughs when George holds the bunny, pouts when the bunny runs away, and cheers "yay!" when mother and baby bunny are reunited.

He broke his arm this labor day weekend. :-( He doesn't want his toys, he doesn't want his blanket, he doesn't want milk, he just wants daddy to read him this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A bedtime favorite
I bought this book because of my own fond memories of Curious George, and am happy to see that my 10-month-old son feels similarly. The story is long enough to have a real plot, yet short enough to keep his interest. The repetitive nature of the text ("bunny" appears on almost every page) also seems to reinforce the association between the text and the illustrations. Several of our friends have pet rabbits, and my son invariably pulls this book off the shelf after visits with them! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This does NOT belong under the Dr Seuss imprint
This book does not send a message in line with other Seuss books such as Horton Hears a Who and The Lorax. The stories written by Dr Seuss were either nonsensical fun, or morality stories wrapped in made-up language that appeals to children. The story of Hunnybunny Funnybunny by Margaret Sadler is neither. While on the surface it is a tale of sibling rivalry, it really is more about preferring negative attention rather than none at all.

PJ Funnybunny's "teasing" of his sister Hunnybunny is sometimes silly, but sometimes legitimately punishable offenses. How many parents would laugh if their child "poured mashed carrots" on his or her sibling's head "everynight" as PJ does to Hunnybunny? Or if one sibling painting the others' face during the night? And the Funnybunny parents do nothing until Hunnybunny finally complains? It is very sad when in the end Hunnybunny translates this persistent torture into "love", preferring it to PJ's disregard, and her mother reinforces this. We can only assume that after Hunnybunny hugs her brother for painting her face bright blue while she slept, he goes back to humiliating her in various ways.

The parents who laugh this off as a funny, harmless story are forgetting that self-esteem is built when children are very young. How they are treated by their parents and siblings shapes how they allow others in their lives to treat them. My husband bought this (without reading it first, as we usually do) because my daughter asked for it (because the cover is pink). He was horrified when he read it, as was I. We have removed it from our children's book collection, because this story reinforces negative behavior and reactions to that behavior. I not only do not recommend it, I steer people away from it at every opportunity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This book and the others like it that have the Funnybunny characters in them are awesome! This is a special series shared between my husband and 4-year-old daughter. He even recorded them for her to listen to while he is away on business trips! They are funny, entertaining, educational, and yet so simple to enjoy. I hope more of them come back in print soon!

3-0 out of 5 stars A good opportunity to discuss teasing
This book is not a dissertation of sibling relationships, which are a bit too complicated to discuss in an EZ Reader children's book....

It's the story of a little girl and her brother. Like many siblings, PJ teases Honeybunny. He teases her a lot.

For a little boy bunny, teasing is the way he shows his affection towards his sister. Probably not the way most parents would want their children to show affection towards each other, but it is highly accurate.

My own sister would tease me mercilessly. But if anyone else tried to tease me? She'd jump to my defense in a heartbeat.

This is a story reflecting that reality, not encouraging it. And it's also a nice way for parents to discuss with their children the consequences of teasing....

I thought this was a sweet book about the problems with siblings. A good way to open up the lines of communication between siblings.

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny Memories
I wish the serious reviewers of this book would get over themselves! My older brother teased me endlessly, but what else do older brothers do to their little sisters? I think this book merely sets the stage for opening dialog between older brothers and younger sisters about the differences between the sexes and about reconciliation. The adults reading the book to their youngsters can seize the opportunity to elaborate and teach! I honestly didn't think that the story ended where the book did and that the relationship between these two would change.

Books are tools to learn things from and not everything has to be written in black and white. I loved the book and I'm even buying it for my older brother just for a gag gift on his birthday.

1-0 out of 5 stars a book that teaches verbal & physical abuse of girls is OK
This is a terrible book. I purchased this as part of a series of books for beginner readers in the Dr. Seuss series. Four adults have read this book and we all agree that this is really sick stuff.

The little sister bunny is the subject of verbal teasing and physical tricks such as "smashing carrots" on her head at the dinner table. (Real lovely and funny, huh?) More tricks and nasty deeds follow. They go noticed by the parents until one final act and little sister tattles on her brother. Only then do the parents tell the older brother to leave her alone. They don't explain why what he is doing is bad. They don't ask him to apologize and he does not apologize. He chooses to abandon her and go play with other friends and basically ignore her for a while. Mother explains that "he is playing with friends" instead of spending time with her. She gets lonely and tells her mother that his lack of abuse on her is a sign of his not loving her anymore. The mother says that he does love her and shows her that he has resumed his abuse on her by painting her face with paint again. Little sister is happy and gives her brother a hug. Mother must also be happy as she disappears at that point and mother does not.

This is the most negative children's book that I have ever read to date, and the only book that I have ever read that approves of verbal and even physical abuse. This is an illustration of how a sibling relationship should not be. And especially a relationship between older brother and younger sister. I have no idea why this book was allowed to be published. This is definitely one for the trash heap. I will not donate this copy to the library or even sell it to a used book store as I don't want this terrible message taught to preschool aged children (the audience it is written for).

I am a mother who wants to raise her boys not to be violent, that teasing is not all right, name-calling does hurt, and physical abuse of other humans is not permitted and is not allowed by our society. I am raising my boys to learn to communicate well with others, admit their mistakes, and apologize when they are wrong. I am sensitive to the messages that we give our children through books, television, and also by viewing how adults interact with each other. There are better books out there to teach the lessons that tormenting others is not alright-I do not feel that this book is a good springboard for discussion even if the discussion is to address abuse and what constitutes a healthy relationship. And some wonder where our children learn violence and that dysfunctional relationships are the norm....this is one book that young children learn it from. ... Read more
