5-0 out of 5 stars fun and unique clay illustrations!!
I've been reading this book since I was young and still immensely enjoy it, mostly because of the illustations. Edith Chase uses a different kind of medium for the pictures...clay! The blended colors and textures are eye-catching and witty...very appropiate for children of all ages.

The text is actually a rhyme written by a different author before the whole book came together. I'm pretty sure Edith Chase rewrote it, though. The rhythm of the words make them fun play for your voice.

The story itself is about a cute calf and his loving mother living on a farm. The calf nurses, eats, runs, plays, and grows...children can definitely relate to this book. ... Read more

Book Description

Nib is a subway mouse. As a young mouse, he loved to hear the stories about Tunnel's End: a beautiful yet dangerous, roofless world. One day, Nib decides to set off, away from his dirty, crowded home, to find his dream. Along the way he meets a girl mouse named Lola, who joins him. Together, they navigate the long and dangerous tunnel, until, one night, when they have almost given up hope, they hear a small chirping sound. . . it is Tunnel's End, more beautiful than Nib ever dreamed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Joan Irvine's Ideas
Joan Irvine's book, "How to make POP-UPS," has more than fifty ideas that will be helpful to beginning teachers. It is also helpful to anyone who enjoys working with crafts. This book is filled with all sorts of ideas that range from making a pop-up strip, to making a cage, to making your own trapeze book. Irvine commences the book by suggesting the materials(paper, scissors, string, rubber bands, buttons etc...) to be used. Then,Irvine informs the reader of the symbols and definitions to be utilized on each individual pop-up. Irvine also gives helpful suggestions for folding, cutting, and measuring. I suggest this book to anyone who enjoys making crafts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Pop-Up Fun!
I purchased this book hoping to find out a few tricks beyond the simple "strip" style pop up. I was very pleasantly surprised to find instructions for turning circles, 3-D cages, and sliders, among others! Given the number of projects included in the book, I feel it's an exceptional value! Instructions and diagrams were clear and easy for me to follow and I look forward to sharing some of these projects at my local elementary school, where I volunteer as art director for a 5/6th grade combination class. Children will definitely enjoy creating these simple, but impressive ideas!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great beginner book on Popups
Although written for children, the methods learned in this book can be carried over to any type of pop-up cards. Also shows you how to make a noise-maker card, a card with a slide and a card with a rubber band powered "car" on it. Lots of good ideas. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Discovery
This is a beautiful book that both children and adults will love. My daughter 6 has brought it again and again from her school library. The story is realistic and one to which children can relate easily, they all love parties especially with chips, deserts and lots of fun, including their grandma. The illustrations details are breathtaking, absolutely wonderful, a true piece of art. Sentences are short and easy to read for your child, but also challenging. We also recommend the French translation. You will want to see more from the same author, just as we did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Creativity At It's Best
This book is great for people of all ages. The attention to detail and the great craftsmanship in the artwork is awesome. Being a clay artist myself, I can really see that Barbara has some real talent. If you like her style, she has done many other children's books. Especially fun is the "Zoe" series. They are hard to find but a treasure to have and share with your children.

5-0 out of 5 stars A most wonderfully written & illustrated children's book!!!!
This book was WONDERFUL!! My 8 year old and I read it together. We LOVED the rhymes!! I am a Noah's Ark collector and my daughter checked it out of the library for that reason. 5-0 out of 5 stars Text and Illustrations A perfect combination
This book is very fun to read and of particular interest to toddlers.I absolutely love Barbara Reid's plasticene illustrations. The poetry in the book is wonderful. The book takes about 5 minutes to read, and it is easy for a young toddler to join in.The text is repetitious without being monotanous.

It is one of my 22 month old's favorite books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Birds, Birds, Birds.
This charming little book uses alliteration, assonance, and rhyming words to describe various types of birds and how they live. The sentences are written in poetry that's cadence and structure enhances the types of birds being discussed. The claymation illustrations are playful and capture children's imagination, but without distracting from the focus of the book's lessons. A fun book to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing illustrations, beautiful text...younger kids too!
My two year old adores birds, and of all of our bird books, this is one of his absolute favorites.I'm not sure how much of the text he understands, but the illustrations, done in clay art, are beautiful, and he loves to identify the various species.

I don't mind reading it over and over because the poetic text stands up to intense rereadings and I love the cadence and rhythm of the text. The author has managed to emulate the careening freedom of flight by the flitting, dipping, racing style of her poetry. This is one of those books I wish we had in hardcover. ... Read more
