Book Description Reviews (14)
My 3 and 5 year old children love the book and want me to read it again and again. They say "'Read God's Clown' again daddy ...". The ending deals with death but it is not death in misery or emptiness. The Clown of God reaches God's heart and I think it will reach your heart and your child's heart too.
I checked the book out of the library to see what I thought. Yes, its Catholic flavor cannot be missed, but the message was an excellent one. The lesson the brothers taught Giovanni was one that I took to heart, that everything we do should be done for the glory of God. Though Giovanni wrote it off at the time, he ultimately got the message, and gave the best gift that he could to the Lord Jesus. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars, was that my son didn't like the ending. He thought it was sad that Giovanni died, and therefore didn't especially want to hear it again. I used it, however, as an opportunity to teach him about death. Giovanni came to love the Lord Jesus, and the Lord Jesus loved him, so he went to be with Jesus when he died. That isn't a bad thing; rather it is good! There is no need to be sad that Giovanni died, because he went to a place where things were much better for him. Part of me wants to give it five stars for the teaching opportunity about death that it provided! But I guess I'll leave it as I did. Too bad I couldn't give it a 4.5!

Book Description There once was a king who ruled over a darkened kingdom. Crops were planted and then failed, houses were built and then neglected, people were impoverished and dispirited. But when a traveler arrives at the crumbling palace, he shows the monarch his kingdom through the lens of an enchanted spyglass -- a spyglass that shows him his kingdom not as it is, but as it could be. The king's imagination is ignited by the spark of faith, and with faith comes hope and change. By sharing his vision and inspiring his subjects to work alongside him, the king restores his land to glory. Faith is at the heart of master storyteller Richard Paul Evans's moving new fable, which is brought to life by the rich, magnificent oil paintings of artist Jonathan Linton. Together, author and artist have created a powerful story that will inspire readers young and old to see their world through the eyes of faith. Reviews (3)

Caitlin O'Conner at the beginning of the book starts out as a non-Christian who goes to church with her parents and her brother. After getting accepted into the popular clique at school, Caitlin's life seems to be on a high point, that is until she discovers her dad is having an extramarital affair. Caitlin's Aunt Stephie comes along to help out, and ulitimately takes the family with her to Faith Fellowship, where Caitlin starts to ask questions about religion, while at the same time her friend Jenny's boyfriend is hitting on her. In the end, Caitlin loses her "popular" status. But both she and Josh make decisions for Christ at the same time. After a botched romance, Cailtin decides to make a vow to stay a virgin until marriage, among other things (I'll not give the rest away) Then Caitlin faces more troubles that surprisingly help her walk with God. I can't wait to start the next book in the series.
Along with caitlin's normal life she was turning 16 and along with that came troubles. On her 16th birthday she had stasrted to become a part of the popular crowd, and from then on things went wrong, her friendship with beanie, her religion, her family life and BIG problems with boys, girls were getting pregnant, and she didn't know if she would have sex or not she was scared that it would effect her religion, friends, and family. The diary of a teenage girl was the best book I have ever read. this book had a huge impact on the way I see the world, or at least the part that I see everyday. The book changed my thoughts because I saw things a little bit different. Maybe it was because I am a teenager myself, and I can undersand some of the problems she had. I would highly recamond this book and expesially if you are a teenager. I guarentee you will see things in you'r environment differently. Like I said I am a teenager and it made a huge impact on me.

In addition, this has become my standard newborn baby gift.
It talks of all the different aspects of the earth and their arguments with each other over what is God. Old Turtle speaks up and proclaims that God is all the things they have said, but most importantly, GOD IS. Old Turtle then goes on to talk about how humans are coming and are a gift. The humans do come, but they forget the gift and thereby destroy much of the earth. When they remember, they realize that if they love, they will experience the gift of God again. This is how I want to teach my son and new baby about God. Not the politics of who is "right" or "wrong." We can all just be assured that through whatever spiritual path we are all on, we can take solace in knowing that GOD IS. Beautiful story. ... Read more

The stories are compiled in a way that not only keeps the reader interested, but supports the thematic structure of the book. Each section is filled with stories that address a different aspect of God's face; his love, his compassion, his forgiveness. I often find religously themed books forced, but TRUTH used the art of short narratives to positively and effectively portray ideas that are crucial to young struggling Christians.

Book Description Reviews (62)
The story's beauty comes from three sources: the heart in the story, the way it's written, and the maturity of the approach. By "the heart" I mean that it deals with a transformation of the Grinch that could be called an epiphany. It ranks right up there with the transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge in "A Christmas Carol". The character finds a much better way to live. I think everyone knows what I mean by "the way it's written" but, just in case, I'll say a little on the subject. Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss) wrote some of the best, most lyrical, most amusing poetry in history. The only reason he isn't routinely grouped with The Great Poets of History is that his poetry was very (and beautifully) simplistic and designed for children. By "the maturity of the approach" I mean that this is a children's book that hits the perfect tension level for children. It does not treat that them as totally fragile (Santa gets kidnapped, Christmas almost gets sabotaged, Max the dog is treated as a slave) but it also relieves them and rescues them from their fears in a well-paced and realistic way that mirrors how parents can talk to their children about real-life fears and scary incidents. One of the top children's books. In my opinion, this is the best of Dr. Seuss.
The Grinch, for no apparent reason, REALLY hates Christmas and the Whos of Whoville love it. Angered by their holiday festivities and happiness, he plots to steal their presents and decorations, under the assumption that Christmas can't/won't exist without them. So he sets off with faithful but much-kicked canine Max to destroy Christmas. But is Christmas only presents and ornaments? Dr. Seuss's delightfully-skewed rhymes and names are as enjoyable as ever, making the important message of Christmas infinitely more palatable than if it had been a much-regurgitated, cliched book. I admit it--at the beginning the Christmas season I tend to act Grinchish, and I felt much better after reading this book... If you like this book, then check out the old cartoon special (though not the live-action one). "Grinch" is a treasure in kid's literature and can be enjoyed by anyone...
Told is classic Seuss fashion, completely in rhymes, this book appeals to kids year round. I know I insisted that it be read to me more then just in December. The fanciful illustrations, also classic Seuss, are just as engaging as this story. After all, what could be worse to kids then no Christmas? Yet there is a message here that there is more to Christmas then the commercialism we see around us. It's subtle and not expanded on greatly, but it's there none-the-less. Surely Charles Dickens' classic tale was an influence when Dr. Seuss sat down to write this book. Both the main characters hate Christmas and miss the point, but have a revelation that shows them how important Christmas really is. Of course, the meat of the stories is completely different, so kids not ready for Dickens will love this one. If there is such a thing as a classic picture book, this belongs in that category. Enjoyable at Christmas, or the whole year round. ... Read more

Amazon.com The freshness of the If You Give a... series is diminished only slightly as thesequels pile up. The dazed and earnest look on the face of the mouse'slong-suffering friend makes a marvelous foil for the mouse's high-spiritedexpressions. Adult readers will chuckle as they recognize the ephemeral passionsof a child, while children will simply love the unfolding chain of events.
