Book Description

You can’t be friends with God if the God you believe in doesn’t really exist.
You can’t depend on God if your God is a figment of your imagination.
In a world full of gods, how do you know Jesus is real?

You have probably heard things like:

  • All religions lead to the same God.
  • All faiths teach the same things.

It doesn’t matter what you believe—just that you believe sincerely. But Jesus said that:

  • He alone is the way to God.
  • He alone shows us the truth of who God is.
  • He alone gives us life close to God.

In this youth edition of Jesus Among Other Gods, Ravi Zacharias gives solid evidence as to why we should choose Jesus Christ as THE God among all other gods. Zacharias contrasts the truth of Jesus with the founders of Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, providing strong descriptions of each faith and solid defenses for the cause of Christ. In addition to the religion comparisons, the book answers questions such as: "What about all the hypocrites at church?" "How scientific is science?" "How can you best share what you believe?" and "Does the Bible teach reincarnation?" You can never be too young to learn how to defend your faith . . . and this book will tell you exactly how to do just that!

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid overview of the foundation of Jesus
Jesus is Someone who is referenced somehow by every religion in the world. From Hindus to Muslims and the cults based in America, there is no doubt that having Jesus as part of one's theology is vital. In this book Ravi Zacharias explains whether or not there is any valid claim to truth and Christ in any other religion but Christianity. Ravi has good stories to tell, writing like an expository preacher with clear, easy-to-understand points. His illustrations are vivid. I guess my only complaint is that he could have tackled the "absolute claims of the Christian message" via a more systematic breakdown with each particular religion. He was continually referring to the Buddhist, Hindu, and others (especially with pantheist ideas), but unless you had previous knowledge of these religions and what they taught, it would seem that the typical layperson would have had trouble keeping up. Still, while it does not get too deep, there is plenty of meat here, and I think the book is very much worth a read. Ravi is a clear evangelical voice in the wilderness, and I appreciate his logic and stand for truth.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I expected, but still quite good.
I just finished this book, and I would have to say that for an intro level text to the Christian faith, Zacharias did an excellect job. I particularly appreciated his familiarization with both Christian authors (e.g., Kreeft, Lewis, Dostoevsky, and Chesterton) and secular authors (e.g., Sartre, Camus, Dawkins, and Hawking). By far, the stand-out chapter is number five, "Is God the Source of My Suffering?" I was truly surprised at how well he handled probably the hardest question for skeptics (and Christians)...the so-called "problem of evil." I was tempted to give this book 5 stars just for this chapter. Of course, if you're an undergrad or grad student in theology, you might want to check-out Richard Swinburne's Providence and the Problem of Evil for a fuller, scholarly treatment on theodicy.

My only problem with the book (and why I deducted a star) is that he doesn't really get into other religions. Once in a while, he'll bring-up, for instance, Buddha or Sri Ramakrishna (a Hindu "saint") while giving a much-too simplified version of the religious tradition (though it is a fairly accurate simplification). I happen to be a Religious Studies major, so I'm more apt to be picky on such things. Altogether, this is certainly not an adequate treatment in comparative religious studies. If that's what you are looking for, I'd look elsewhere.

His main focus is to show you the "uniqueness of Christianity" (a la C.S. Lewis' Mere Christianity or G.K. Chesterton's Orthodoxy). In that respect, he does a good job; though, he's certainly not a Lewis or Chesterton.

For those interested in this book, I'd recommend checking out Peter Kreeft (a philosophy professor at Boston College). He's written numerous books (over fifty) dealing with Christianity. He writes for both the layman and the scholar (not an easy task) and does an excellent job. His website http://peterkreeft.com/ has several articles worth reading and audio files of some of his speeches.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I was not let down by this incredible piece of writing. Not philosophical or even deeply theological, instead Zacharias gets to the point quickly: There is only One True God, and Jesus is not only equal to, but one and the same with this Deity. The compare/contrast to other religions' deified leaders was enlightening.

Someone mentioned that Zacharias did not explain in depth other religions, and that was dissapointing to them. However, that was not the purpose of this book. It is not an exposition of religious views and how Christianity compares. For that I would suggest reading "So What's the Difference?" by Fritz Ridenauer. This was instead a book about Jesus, as God, and how He compares and usurps all other gods and heads of other false religious systems. Remarkable and highly recommended!

1-0 out of 5 stars Christian gives it the thumbs down...
If you're not a Christian, don't read it. If you are a Christian, strongly consider not reading it. I read it for a class and came away with nothing but a bad taste in my mouth.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wandering Truth
Jesus among other Gods - the absolute claims of the Christian message. The thesis of the book is to show the claims of Jesus are unique. To show Jesus claimed to be God and is God. The stated intention of the author is to compare Christianity to three major World views: Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam. Statement of the claims is clear and argued thoroughly. Comparison is often brief; Often less then a page is given to comparing the other World views. The author does not deal with misconceptions these view points have about Christ nor those in Christendom. The book deals more with atheism then with the other three world views.

The author describes Buddhism as a nontheistic faith if not atheistic. Dr. Zacharias describes Hinduism as a religion with a multifaceted belief system which vehemently attacks the exclusivity of any religion. Jesus claimed that we can personally know God and the absolute nature of His truth. This agnostics would deny. Islam denies man's ability to "personally" know God. The agnostic denies man's ability to know God at all. the author begs his reader make a determination what world view has a monopoly of the truth.

The first question put to Jesus is where He lived? Jesus answered Nathaniel by saying come and see. The response to Nathaniel is a claim to a nonearthly home but of Heaven. It is a piece of the puzzle in Jesus claiming deity. The author calls this positioned by transcendence:

If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? (John 3:12 RSV)

Jesus point of Reality is Heaven. The Disciples and all mankind's point of reality is earth.

Jesus had no starting point, no beginning. His human birth explains this, the word became flesh. Conception without Consummation, born of a woman, but no seed of man. Jesus was not of this World but was born in it. Being of Heaven Jesus did not sin.

Second question: The Jews then said to him, "What sign have you to show us for doing this?" (John 2:18 RSV)

Answer Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." (John 2:19 RSV)

But he spoke of the temple of his body. When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this;and they believed the scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.
(John 2:21-22 RSV)

The response is to those who do not want to know Jesus as the Messiah or as God. In this chapter is an argument against religious relativeness. it is not a matter what works for you, but what is the truth. The author titled this chapter the Anatomy of Faith Quest for Reason. Scripture does not demand blind Faith, but a well reasoned faith based on the truth. Faith is a confidence in the person Jesus and His power. Even when the power does not serve the believers end. Faith is based on who Jesus claimed to be and the Truth of His statements.

Question Three: Unless you drink my blood eat My body you will have no part of me? Jesus is the Bread of Life. No one can have eternal life without repenting and accepting Jesus as proprietion for one's sins. Proprietion came through Jesus dying on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. In this all believers are partakers of the body and blood of Jesus. The Lord's Supper is a reminder to the believer of this fact. I should think of my God being tortured, humiliated by sinners, treated as a sinner, and dying on the Cross. The bread and "wine" are not the actual substance of Christ, but I must acknowledge my need of them to be saved. I am damned without Him dying on the Cross. I am the source of my God suffering. The author spends to much time on saying the bread and wine are not the actual physical body and blood of Christ.

Question Four: Is God the source of my suffering? The author does not discuss much about man's implication in suffering. Pain came into the world because of Adam's sin. I deserve to suffer because I sin. It is through God's grace I do not suffer more. The author does point to the whole chapter John nine and the man blinded since birth. Which is good. He does compare other world views about suffering. The author argues many theorize that Man's subjectivity determines evil. In this course there is no objective definition of evil. The Christian believes God communicates to us what is evil through scripture. Evil is contrary to God's goodness. Dr. Zacharias argues the Christian view is the most thorough its arguments why man suffers.

Question Five: Pilate entered the praetorium again and called Jesus, and said to him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" (John 18:33 RSV)

Jesus answered, "My kingship is not of this world; if my kingship were of this world, my servants would fight, that I might not be handed over to the Jews; but my kingship is not from the world." Pilate said to him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears my voice." (John 18:35b-37 RSV)

The Kingdom is establish through death and resurrection. God calls believers to proclaim the truth through ordinary speech.

Question Six: Where is the Gardener

The author discusses that the world was created by design and not by chance. That God is the ultimate Gardener. The designer of all creation. The earth and all the Universe do not exist through chance. God is sovergn. ... Read more

Making Choices You Don't Have to Undo

Making the right decisions can mean the difference between life and death for today's teen. The most crucial issues that young people face revolve around moral choices. It's easy to fall into the I'm-young-so-what-I-do-doesn't-matter way of thinking. And to make matters worse, the devil is promoting a live-for-today-forget-about-the-future pitch. Nothing is off limits and everything goes is painted as the modern lifestyle. This foolish philosophy has been the downfall of countless teens.

It's possible to recycle cans, bottles, and paper. But once a life is ruined or destroyed, the consequences can be devastating. Choosing the wrong friends, marrying the wrong person, or dedicating our lives to a wrong cause always results in suffering and scars.

The truth is that a life with little waste to recycle is a possibility for every young person. If you want to discover how to make excellent choices for your life, this book will help you clarify your values, set inner goals to live by, and establish godly boundaries that lead to joy and confidence.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book that everyone should read
There is no reason to go into the plot or particulars of A Christmas Carol: I know of no one who is not conversant with it. Almost everyone, from young children to senior citizens, has at least seen it in a screen adaptation. It has become an integral part of the Christmas season, an immortal classic, beloved by both young and old. That said, if you have never read the original text, you owe it to yourself to do so. This story, though short and simple, is a timeless classic for a reason: it is immaculately written, has a great theme, and is undeniably heartwarming. Dickens is at his brief best here, deftly and skillfully weaving this immortal story in a spellbinding manner, making great and timeless art out of what would have been an overly-sugary-sweet mess in the hands of a lesser writer. This story is good enough, and well-written enough, to melt the cold hard of any cynic. The prose style he uses in this book is just about perfect: it makes for a fast-paced read which can easily be read in one setting, while also managing to be entertaining, and even suspenseful -- with a fine moral to boot. The story is also more than it seems: in addition to the simple morality tale, Dickens manages to weave in some social criticism, while also intermixing elements of horror and not a slight bit of humor. This is one of the few books that I truly recommend to everyone. Everyone can read it, and everyone can enjoy it. An essential classic.

4-0 out of 5 stars What the Christmas spirit is all about.
Just as Clement Moore gave us the definitive Santa Claus in "A Visit from St. Nicholas" (a.k.a. "The Night Before Christmas"), Charles Dickens gave us the definitive Christmas spirit in his simple but charming novella "A Christmas Carol". First published in 1843, this supernatural story of an elderly man's redemption from his mean-spirited, miserly ways takes place in Victorian London, but its universal theme of charity towards our fellow man has endeared this classic to many a generation around the globe. In addition to its priceless role as a morality tale, the book colorfully describes the Yuletide customs practiced in England during the early nineteenth century. This Washington Square Press edition of "A Christmas Carol" is unabridged, yet you can understand why so short a book is yet published in abridged versions, especially for schoolchildren. Not infrequently, Dickens veers from the main story line and goes into tangents of a philosophical or descriptive nature, much like the converser who abruptly changes the subject only to return to it with the familiar "Anyway, ... ". I assume children (and some adults) may find these tangents cumbersome and distracting, but they are still useful in that they reflect Dickens' thoughts while writing the book. It may still be difficult for some of us to think that cold-hearted Christmas-bashers like Ebenezer Scrooge exist, but look at human nature around you, and it will be difficult no more. At a time when "Merry Christmas" is being supplanted by a more vague "Happy Holidays", and the season gives way to coarse behavior and unchecked materialism, "A Christmas Carol" is the perfect guidebook to put things into perspective.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book - A Must Read!
Charles Dickens's classic novel, A Christmas Carol, is his most famous and beloved story. Millions around the globe have read this touching book, about brotherly love and charity, since it was first published. Countless people have seen Ebenezer Scrooge, the selfish and unkind man, transform in to a kind and generous person by the visits of four mysterious ghosts.

The story begins in the afternoon of a frigid Christmas Eve, as a mean-spirited man named Ebenezer Scrooge sits in his office. Scrooge is a cold-hearted and selfish miser, who isn't in the spirit of Christmas. Every so often, he shouts, "Bah!" or "Humbug!" He doesn't even buy coal for the fireplace, so he and his clerk freeze away. No one likes him, and no one stands up to him. Dickens describes him thus: "No beggars implored him to bestow a trifle, no children asked him what it was o'clock, no man or woman ever once in his life inquired the way to such and such a place, of Scrooge." However, this is exactly what Scrooge wants - to be in his own world.

Dickens starts out the story by stating that Scrooge's former partner, Jacob Marley, is dead. Then, he reverts back to what Scrooge is up to. As it is Christmas Eve, Scrooge isn't happy. He scares all the carolers away, and refuses to donate money to the poor. When the day is finally over, he goes back to his house, and tries to go to sleep. As he locks the door, he sees an apparition. There is Jacob Marley's ghost - looking right at him! Scrooge is shocked at first, and still is shocked when Marley's phantom tells him some surprising news. The ghost explains that there will be three other ghosts yet to come: the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Future. Then, he leaves.

As promised, the ghosts of the past, present, and the future visit Scrooge. The ghost of the past shows Scrooge how he used to be. Scrooge discovers that his life was somewhat pleasant, but still lonely. The ghost of the present reveals to Scrooge his more recent attitude toward Christmas. It shows Scrooge the consequences of his actions, most of which are to Scrooge's dislike. The ghost also informs Scrooge how other people are celebrating. Dancing, playing blind man's buff, and caroling aren't part of Scrooge's world for certain. The ghost of the future shows the time when Scrooge is dead and no one cares for him; actually everyone is happy that he is gone. Meanwhile, all of these visions have Scrooge sobbing in tears and he is finally ready to make changes in his life. After the final ghost leaves, Scrooge runs about his little town donating money, greeting people, and visiting his nephew and clerk's family. It turns out to be a very happy Christmas after all.

I liked A Christmas Carol very much. Charles Dickens's style is very descriptive. I especially liked the vivid verbs and adjectives Dickens used when he described Scrooge as a "squeezing, wrenching, gasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner!" As for Scrooge, I liked him a lot. The book was funny when he said something completely nonsensical like "Bah!" or "Humbug!" On a scale of one through ten, I would give A Christmas Carol a ten. It was enjoyable and interesting to read, especially over winter break, as it heartens the spirit of Christmas itself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a really good book I thought. Your learn not to be greedy, selfish, and how to spread tons of love around Christmas. It teaches you not to take grantite of what you have. You should be thankful for what you got. The three ghosts of past, present, and the futer of Christmas. Ebenezer Scrooge is haunted by all the ghost plus his old friend Jacob Marley. This book is heart warmer to all or at least it should be. I hope everyone takes the time to read this heart warming book and enjoy it time after time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for kiddies
This is Dickens at his best. But your add said this was for ages 4-8. As this does not appear to be an abridged addition, 4-8 years old is way too young. I will be reading it to my 8 year old, explaining the olde English phrases as we go. Best to say this is the original text and leave it at that. ... Read more

Step off is a really cool book. It pushes your faith to the limit. I loved how it was written like a magazine. Not a lot of words to bore you to death. But it really made my relationship with God stronger. I highly recommend it, but do it with a friend, it will really help.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking and well-done!
I am a huge fan of Josh McDowell and purchased 20 copies of this book for teens in our youth group. Many have come back to me to tell me over & over again how much they enjoyed this book. That it was the first devotional book they followed through on, and really got something out of. I only took one star off b/c sometimes the book had a tendency to be on the "cheesy" side, with the stories. But other than that, this is a GREAT devotional for junior/senior high youth.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Way For Teens To Get Closer To God!
This devotional is absolutely wonderful in using circumstances that teens relate to in order to illustrate a concept found in God's word. I encourage all Christian teens to get this book! It is really wonderful in encouraging your faith!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bibles are super!
Hello, diligent Bible readers! I am a young Christian girl and I come from country where there was recently a taboo on Bibles and all Biblical literature. Up to now there is very little of literature that a Bible student might use. Therefore I wondered, could anyone of the Christians of the world send me some devotional book ( no matter, if it's old or used, youth devotionals or common - anyway). I will be extremely grateful for any kind o help. Thanks! Email me if you have thought about it. My email address is brr81@hotmail.com. Truly yours Barbala

5-0 out of 5 stars A fabulous devotion for teens...
This devotional was great. It addressed important issues in a teen's life and used good illustrations and stories to make concepts clear. The Bible, as it should be, was present in each devotion. I highly recommend this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!
I've tried a lot of different youth devotionals. This is the first one that I've ever been able to stick with. I'll probably never use another book again--it's that great (aside from the Bible, that is!). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book For Everyone!
I have to say that this book is so informative and it isn't just for children...I would give this book 5 stars as it explains just about everything that a child could ask a parent. I believe that it keeps the attention of the child because it is very colorful and it is contemporary.

We've tried may others, but only this one keeps the kids attenention, from preschool to teenagers. ITS THE BEST. BLessings, IN CHRIST...

5-0 out of 5 stars Read n Grow Picture Bible
This is by far the best picture bible I have seen! The pictures and content are outstanding. Most picture bibles do not have a whole lot of content. This one does! It is a comic book style which makes it easy to read for children. My children devoured this book for hours at a time. They used it over and over until it was literally falling apart! I recommend this book for anyone who wants their children to get a better knowledge of God's Word.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Picture Bible -- hands down
This is by far the best picture bible I've ever found. I hold a BA in Bible and find time and again this book is accurate, readable and ideal for teaching children an overview of Scripture. Its pictures are wonderful, able to hold the attention of a 3 year old while teaching eternal truths to "children" of all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking for another copy....
I've bought this book twice over the last 15 years--and need it again. It was the best Bible picture book I have found--kids literally tore it apart reading it over and over.

University life isn't what Caitlin expected. Her roommate Liz is hostile to her faith -- tormenting her with raunchy music and sleazy boyfriends. Worst of all, suddenly Caitlin doesn't understand herself anymore. Why has she regressed to being the shy, insecure girl she was in junior high? She doesn't even fit in with her new Christian fellowship group! Caitlin tries not to envy Josh and her friends at Christian colleges, but suddenly all she has are questions and few answers. In the story of Caitlin O'Conner's soul, this frustrating year is the most significant one yet, as the homesick freshman eventually remembers there is one companion she can always trust. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars It Will Be Torturous to Wait For Book 5!
After a fairly "same-old, same-old" finish to her senior year, Caitlin O'Connor is off to college. Not too excited from the beginning about attending the state college instead of the small Christian ones her best friends are at, Caitlin is dismayed to find other disadvantages about college life. First of all, her room-mate, Liz, is far from ideal and when that's combined with a general lack of friends, Caitlin really feels like a "big fish in a little pond."

As always, Caitlin's diary is intersting, honest, and insightful. The new characters that we meet along the way add fresh interst to the story, yet Caitlin's old friends make appearances too. Sticking to her "non-dating for now" commitment is just as tricky as ever, yet Caitlin continues to inspire us with how she deals with dating. This book will keep you reading, and the unexpected event involving Caitlin and Josh will leave you aching for the sequel...

The books in the Diary of a Teenage Girl series are great examples of almost-perfect Christian books. Containing a main character we can all identify with and tackling issues that every Christian faces-this diary is a must-read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful child's bible
I first got this bible for my son when he was in first grade. He is now in 7th grade and has moved up to a NIV and my daughter who is in first grade started using his old one.The cover is torn completely off it and I picked it up to bring in the house after church on day and mentioned it was looking pretty bad and my daughter said "Please don't throw it away, it is the only bible I can read by myself and understand too." Needless to say, I kept it and ordered her a new one for Christmas.

4-0 out of 5 stars International Children's Version of the Bible
I purchased this book for my neices but found myself using it for my own personal Bible study on David. The stories flow like a story book rather than "scripture".The simplicity of the translation bring to life the characters and places.Although, I know how the stories end, I still find myself wanting to know more.It has been written on a third-grade level but can be used by all ages. This translation has inspired me to study more for which I am greatly thankful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easiest English Translation!
This Bible works. It's not a dumbed-down or inaccurate paraphrase but a full translation. Missionaries are using this version as the basis for Bible study materials because it's accurate and simple. Try it with confidence.

Book Description

Sarah Conover's collection of traditional Buddhist tales leads us to the kind of implicit understanding of ourselves and others that only stories can provide. Following the Buddha through his various transformations, these clarified and often humorous narrative journeys open the ancient master's profound and gentle teachings to persons of all ages, religions, races, and ideological persuasions. Over and over, this marvelous book tells us, "Let go of your anger, your fear, your greedy desire. Embrace gladness. Follow the path." The stories form a wondrous pageant: of elephants, monkeys, monks, and men working through foolishness toward wisdom and delight.

5-0 out of 5 stars Water in the Jar
I bought this book thinking that it was one of those gifts that my son probably wouldn't like but that because it was a children's book I could get away with buying it indirectly for myself. Sort of a back-door self gift, at a time when I couldn't afford to buy myself something. Well, I was right about my liking it, but wrong about my son--he liked it too, and still does. We have read and re-read many of our favorite stories (I tend to get in reading grooves sometimes, like the period during which I couldn't read anything but stories from "Interpreter of Maladies").

If you have Paul Reps' famous "Zen Flesh, Zen Bones," you will recognize many of the stories in "Kindess" from there, but in a lushly expanded form. I am impressed by how Sarah Conover is able to expand a simple Buddhist tale without diluting it, and add detail without dragging it out. Everything seems necessary, even though I'm used to shorter versions of the same tales. This is the sign of good writing to me. Not all of the tales are long, though, so you can use it as a bedtime read regardless of the length of time you have available; there are stories you can read in 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes--whatever your time frame. What's nice, too, about the book is that it grows with the child. A year ago, my son's favorite tales were the simpler ones (though all are complex in the Buddhist way) such as "Great Joy the Ox" about kindness and "The Dung Beetle" which warns of the dangers of hubris. Now his favorite is a more conceptual story, "The Monk's Heavy Load," which treats the idea of being weighed down by resentments and memories.

Besides being delightful to read, the book is gorgeous to look at and hold. Only the cover illustration is multi-colored; those inside are sepia-toned, but this matters not a whit. Valerie Wahl's illustrations are carefully drawn to capture, (at most, one per story) precisely the key moment of each tale. An aphorism precedes each story also reflecting the theme of each tale. The pages are slick, heavy and a Zen pleasure to handle and turn, as long as the book lies flat on a table. The only negative point about the book's design is that its odd shape (a horizontal rather than vertical rectangle) and weight make it awkward for reading in bed. Hardcover children's picture books in this shape are easy to read, but this is a glossy paged book of 160+ pages which makes it both heavy and floppy (at least in the paperback edition I have). We've worked hard to keep ours in good shape, and we've succeeded, but it might be harder for families with lots of children (or less book obsessed parents).

I can't really imagine a person not liking this book, and if I could, I wouldn't want to meet him anyway. These tales drop lessons softly, the way fragrant blossoms fall from trees. They introduce children to Buddhism, which can't be a bad thing at any time, and can only help things these days. If you have no one for whom to buy this book, then do what I did and buy it for yourself and if, like me, you're worried that the child in your life may not like it, you very well might be proven wrong--much to your delight.

5-0 out of 5 stars kindness is the best book ever written!
If you're like me and are sick of hearing about Harry Potter from some forty year old guy in a coffee shop than don't go to a coffee shop, stay home, and read this book. Sure its probably aimed for the young kids but c'mon, what's the last thing you did out of kindness? Giving your loose change to the bum outside your office doesn't count. This book shows off some amazing stories that one shouldn't discount. Written by the intelligent and very beautiful Sarah Conover, this book is sure to leave you with a smile on your face so wide that it makes the old woman sitting next to you on the T nervous. Sure get it for your kids, get two or three copies, but get one to fit in your briefcase too. One could learn a thing or two, especially you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and thoughtful tales for children
I have been reading (and rereading) these beautiful Buddhist stories to my children, ages 6 and 8, every night. Rewritten from the traditional, this version is child-centric, sensitively written, thought (and conversation) provoking and actually relate to everyday life. My intention was to read one per night but my children beg me to read "Just one more. Just one more". In spite of the fact that I am no Buddhist, it is hard to imagine a child, parent, teacher or educator who wouldn't benefit from reading this delightful, well written book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Childhood Favorites
This was my favorite book growing up, the illistrations are great and the story keeps you on your toes. Great bedtime story book as something is always happening (beware you can't finish in night though). Dragons, demons, giants, dark woods, and angels. A good introduction to the Christian walk in a way a small child can enjoy and still savor as an adult.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm certain that even God keeps this one in His library.
John Bunyan has created a story that will, regardless of your religious affiliation, profoundly move your heart. The author has created settings and characters that boldly reflect the best and worst of all things experienced within a lifetime, for all time. Bunyan's book is as relevant and necessary today as at any point since being written in 1676. If you read only one version of Pilgrim's Progress, make sure that "Dangerous Journey," is it. The poetic flow and wonderful illustrations grab and hold onto to you at word one and never let go.
