5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific - and it has depth
Those who have experienced the conclusion of the "Novacom Saga" recently have heard Adventures in Odyssey at it's best, but if absolute pure suspence is what you want, then I recommend this series. It has been building for a long time, every so often Dr. Regis Blackgaard would appear on the horizon, dark and sinister, first in Odyssey with his own "amusement house" for kids (and a nefarious effort to steal a top secret computer program from Mr. Whittaker-thwarted by Richard Maxwell who makes another appearance in this album)and then in Chicago where he actually kidnapped Connie, and finally in "A Name Not a Number" when he returned to Odyssey.

This album presents the climax of his plans, and there are enough twists and turns to leave you breathless for weeks...and the amount of depth is breathtaking, with the story functioning on several levels, from Eugene's own personal struggles, to the Tom Riley-Richard Maxwell problem, to the conflict of Jason and Jack over "The Isrealits".not to mention the recall! The web gets ever wider. So buy this album and immerse yourself in a story that is both very complicated, and at the same time, equally compelling. You won't be dissapointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Darkness before Dawn
Episodes on this miniseries include A little credit please, Small fires little pools, Angels unaware, gathering thunder, moving targets, hard losses, the return, the time has come, checkmate, another chance, the last resort and the final conflict. This is a very exciting series with each episode ending on a cliff hanger. It was very hard to stop listening to do other things. An excellent buy for children and adults alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best odyssey collection yet!
These tapes are full of reunions from MR Glossman to Richard maxwell to DR.Blagerd. it also includes Eugene becuming a christian. It's the best hands down

5-0 out of 5 stars Yeah!
If you are at all familiar with Adventures in Odyssey, you must have this. This one includes the salvation of Eugene. My daughter and I just love to listen to these.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frank lives up to his reputation
If you love Christian suspense, or even if you don't, you will after you read this. Twins Elijah and Elisha and their parents make up a highly secret investigative team. The family goes all over the country to find "not only the Facts, but the Truth behind the Facts." In a small Washington town, a highschool's star athletes are coming down with a mysterious illness that leaves them insane. The Springfield family is sent to investigate, finding a mysterious ghost, a second class system, and witchcraft surrounding them. They soon realizes that there is the Baker High that everyone chooses to see, and the second Baker High where people are harrassed, abused, bullied, stolen from, and made fun of every day. What measures will people go to to stop it? Enough to murder? I loved this eerie book! Not one section was boring, I was hooked to every page! The only problem is that I have to wait till the next book comes out...

5-0 out of 5 stars Hangman's Curse
The Hangman's Curse is Frank Peretti's first installment in a new series, The Veritas Project, aimed at young teens. The story unfolds just as if it is a story right out of today's headlines and deals with the issue of bullying on the high school campus. The Springfield family, consisting of twins Elisha and Elijah and their parents, make up the investigation team working on The Veritas Project. The program's mission is to investigate and solve strange mysteries, crimes, and occurrences, seeking not only the facts, but the truth behind the facts. In Hangman's Curse, the Springfield family's assignment is to discover the truth behind the mysterious form of madness that is inflicting Baker High School's athletes. What is causing this madness? Is it tied to the superstition of a curse left by the ghost of a student who has haunted the school since he hanged himself at the school in the 1930's? Who is the ghostly figure with a hawk on his shoulder that is seen by those tormented by the mysterious madness? Is he Abel Frye and is Abel Frye the student who hung himself? What is the meaning of the crude etching of a hangman figure on the lockers of each victim? It seems that it is the bullies that have been targeted and are the ones contracting the mysterious illness. Are they suffering a form of revenge from a group of students that is meeting secretly practicing witchcraft? What is the truth? The answers are uncovered as you follow the Springfield family's quest for the truth behind the mystery. The Hangman's Curse is a fast-paced and riveting page turner. The truth behind the mysterious madness will surprise the reader. Teens as well as adult fans of Peretti will enjoy this book. When finished, the reader will be eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice and fun.
"Hangman's Curse" and "Nightmare Academy" are entertaining and easy reads. If you've been doing heavy research or reading this is a good switch. Light, and fun, I enjoyed it after a long study program I was in.. I read both books back to back so this review will be seen under both books.

I liked "The Visitation" better, but all three are worthy of your money..

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book That Will Keep You Hanging
Frank Peretti is an excellent writer. All of his books keep you in suspense. This book highlights the problems of teasing and making fun of those who are different, and is helpful if you are teased. Also, if you tease others maybe this book will help you see how much it hurts.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Sweet Book
This book is awesome! I Absolutely loved the part with the witches, spiders, and typical science nerd. It is about the Veritas Project,an undercover government team made up of a family of Christians. It makes an awsome book and will probably make an even sweeter movie. I also Reccomend book 2: nightmare academy. ... Read more

Ive listened to these milllions of time and they never get old. BUY LEFT BEHIND LIVE ACTION AUDIO-you wont be dissapointed. It the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excuse me please
...This audio series for kids is very well thought out and intelligently written being translated from a long string of books (24 at present). Original music and great sound effects round out a great presentation. The voice acting is top notch.

I got interested in the Left Behind series and progressed to the kids books and was glad I did. The stories sometimes overlap the adult books a bit and give some insight into some happenings of the adult series. Bravo for this nice touch!

The Left Behind audio series is just as brilliantly done as The Kids audio series. Any fan of these books owes themselves the pleasure of pure immersion into the Left Behind world. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Danger Begins to Build
Things aren't quite right in Odyssey, and no one can quite put their finger on why. Novacom, the new company in town, seems to want to fit in and make its new neighbors happy. Mitch, their new P.R. man, certainly strikes Connie's fancy. And Whit has a great opportunity to reach out to Connellsville when he's offered a chance to open a second Whit's End there. But there's plenty of time for fun, too, as Alex must try to get some cookies past Rodney to his grandmother. And there's the mystery of the broken window. Plus Edwin Blackgaard has to deal with daily life without Shakespeare when the assistant breaks a leg.

This collection feels like a return to the fun of the old stories. I love having some kind of ongoing story that advances a little at a time, but I also enjoy the stand-alone stories. This collection has a good mix of both. It's also nice to see the same kids in enough stories to watch them develop. I'm really starting to like the current crop.

Having listened to Adventures in Odyssey since it started, I'm glad to see a return to the kind of story telling that hooked me as a kid. Hopefully, they can keep this going for years to come.

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting Better
With the introduction of novacom as the new villian? in the series, Odyssey has an infusion to set right the aimless wanderings of the series since blackgaard died in 25.

The biggest new story in this series, since Novacom was introduced an album earlier is the constuction of a new Whit's End in Connelsville. Are the writers making it too grand now? Originally all the action centered around Whit's End in the early years, and now the action has spread to include the Timothy Center and Jack and Joan's shop. How many more "key" sites can be added before it gets to be too much?

I think the album is better than its recent predeccessors because it has focus. I just hope that the writers are on the begging of an upswing and not the peak of a small hill. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Countermoves shows the AIO team just keeps getting better.
This is just another in a series of Odysseys that are getting more involved and hold the interest of adults as well as children. It is too intense for children under 7-8 but older children love it. We listened to it in the car and it made our trip seem to fly by. One word of warning - the mystery is not resolved at the end of the set. You'll need to wait until September to find out what happens!

5-0 out of 5 stars Things are Really Heating Up Now
With very few exceptions, this collection of the radio drama focuses on the Novacom storyline. And it's definitely gaining momentum. Connie and Mitch are having problems in their relationship because Mitch works for Novacom and seems to have several secrets. Whit's End Connellsville opens, but runs into some problems from an unexpected source. Mandy and Sarah unexpectedly run into an old friend who provides a clue to current happenings. Meanwhile, Aubrey must deal with a group of happy guests at the Timothy Center. And we get to see Jason in action at one of his missions in South America.

This collection contains some gripping stories. Things have gotten interesting with Novacom, and I can't wait to see how it ends. When Dr. Blackgaard's story line ended, the show seemed to loose a little momentum, and it's nice to see that it's come back. The non-arch episodes are also top-notch. The last four episodes contain some surprises and will leave you waiting anxiously for the next collection.

Once again, the Adventures in Odyssey staff have done a top-notch job with these twelve episodes. Don't hesitate to buy this collection and find out what's going on in this wonderful fictitious town.

4-0 out of 5 stars More Novacom
This Album is great. More Novacom episodes with suprising plot twists. Katie Leigh gives a fine performance. Ed Walker does not show up very much. Tho the reason I did not give it five stars is because there is a little drop of christainty and more focous on msking novacom relly cul. Also Odyssey has replased there good music with horrible gutar music. But Nathen Hoobler writes some of these episodes and is a very good writer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best All Around Collection in a Long Time
Ok, I confess. I've been listening to Adventures in Odyssey since its very first broadcast. I was in the target age range at the time, but I still love the show.

With the Novacom story behind them, the show serves up fun and funny shows focusing mostly on the kids and families around town.

"For the Fun of it" opens the album and finds Wooton playing host to his overly mature and well bred niece, with surprising results.

"Room Enough for Two" brings a surprise to Liz and her family when brother Mark shows up for a trip home from the Army with his fiancee.

"BTV: Behind the Scenes" finds disorder and disharmony on the set of the latest BTV episode, ironically enough about unity.

"Bassett Hounds" takes Wooton and Bernard to Alaska and a Bassett family reunion as Wooton's Grandpa plans to pass out his wealth.

"It's All About Me" features dual plots. In the first, Connie is upset when Mitch gets the credit for the advice she is feeding him on his new KYDS radio show. Meanwhile, Jared DeWhite is upset when his brother gets credit for his joke on Rodney Rathbone.

When Liz and her family disappear, it's up to Mandy, Jared, and a few new friends to solve "The Case of the Disappearing Hortons." (Have I mentioned it's wonderful to have Jared back in Odyssey?)

In "The Defining Moment," Marvin must deal with his sports abilities, or lack there of.

A free vacation sounds wonderful to the Washington family, until they get embroiled in the "Mystery at Tin Flat."

Aubrey takes a lesson in sharing her faith from Seth in "All Things to All People." But is this really the best method of evangelism?

Finally, the three part "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow?" finds Mitch tracking down the person who stole Whit's identity and framed Mitch for it. Meanwhile, he finally has to make a decision about joining the FBI. What will he do and what will it mean for his relationship with Connie?

With some drama and comedy mixed in, there's something for everyone here. There were even a few episodes where they surprised me with the ending. Any fan of Odyssey will love this collection of great radio drama. ... Read more

Odyssey is being hit with adventure from all sides!  A destructive tornado blowes through the town; some kids think they found the bones of bigfoot; a levee threatens to wash away the Mulligan farm; and Dwayne decides to become a stand-up comedian.  But in the midst of the havoc, discoveries are made about faith, forgiveness and compassion.  Through it all, your favorite characters learn that no matter what happens, God is in control!

Episodes:

1: Leap of Faith (Trust):  The Mulligans farm is threatened when a levee is to give way through a storm.  At the same time, the Mulligan's are helping Jessica to trust them.
2:  O.T. Action News: Jephthah's Vow (rash vows): A story about Jephthah's vow to God.
3:  No Bones about it (Greed): Did the children of Odyssey actually find the bones of bigfoot?  Not if Bart Rathbone has his way.
4:  Poor Loser (sportsmanship): Eugene has difficulty losing in a game(s) of chess with Bernard.  Heather has a difficulty of losing in school.
5:  Bernard and Job (Suffering): A mishap occurs at the Mulligan farm and Bernard teaches the kids about the story of Job.
6:  Tornado (compassion): A tornado hits Odyssey and the Rathbones are the ones who are hit the hardest.  Will the Odyssey community help them?
7:  The Joke's on you (encouragement):   Julie has to pick a subject to encourage and she encourages Dwayne into a life of comedy even when he's terrible at it.
8:  Arizona Sunrise (forgiveness): A story of the old west about the life of a reverend who forgives the Indians who murdered his family.
9:  A case of revenge (revenge): Rodney Rathbone causes problems at a science fair and destroys Jarred's project.  Now Jarred wants revenge.
10:  The spy who bugged me (discernment): Jarred's imagination goes wild when Sarah has a club called "Super Secret Sisters Club".
11:  More like Alicia (self-esteem): Heather wants to be exactly like the popular girl, Alicia and she learns what kind of life Alicia really has.
12:  When in doubt...pray! (prayer and faith): Eugene helps Mandy know that prayer really helps.

REVIEW: I was surprised that a new volume came out so quickly but I was happy.   The latest volume, "Through Thick and Thin" is very good.  You get two stories about the Mulligans which was fun to listen to, a story of Eugene going crazy when he keeps losing a game of chess against Bernard, the treatment of the Rathbone's after their home and business is destroyed by a tornado and much more.  This is a very entertaining volume and it's also highly recommended.! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It's Another Fine Collection
This collection from 1991 features 12 more exciting Adventures for Whit and the gang.

It opens with "By Dawn's Early Light." My favorite American history Imagination Station adventure finds Curt and Lucy traveling back to the War of 1812 and the writing of "The Star Spangled Banner" to powerfully show why our national symbols mean something.

Odyssey is in for a shock when Curt takes over the town in "Mayor for a Day."

One of Whit's short stories gets made into a movie to the delight and then chagrin of his friends in "A Day in the Life." This is especially interesting listening considering it originally aired about the time the Adventures in Odyssey videos started coming out.

George has been offered a great promotion that could take the Barclays to Washington DC in "Where There's a Will." But does God want them to go?

Whit hires some kids to clean the little theater. Connie is trying to get her uncle Joe to come back to church. What do these two things have to do with a parable of Jesus? Find out in "The Last Shall be First."

The Barclay's learn "The Meaning of Sacrifice" when they agree to give up TV for a month, with hilarious results.

"A Rathbone of Contention" introduces the Electric Palace as Bart tries to cut corners to get his new store opened.

Lucy learns a hard lesson about the power of the written word when she tries to become a "Muckraker."

One of the best stories from the Old Testament comes to life when Bernard tells Robyn and Melanie the story of Esther in the two part "Bernard and Esther."

"Coming of Age" finds Jimmy going through some wired changes he doesn't quite understand. (And features the second appearance of his journal.)

Finally, the album ends on a sad note when we learn about Curt's home life in "Home is Where the Hurt is."

As is always the case, these episodes feature excellent writing and acting. The lessons are hidden in the fun and drama of the show. Long time fans or new listeners will be captivated for hours enjoying the small town life of Odyssey. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars arthur's april fool
it was an okay book. I think that D.W. and Arthur make the perfect brother and sister because they always disagree. It was a funny book because Arthur does a good trick on Binky.

5-0 out of 5 stars Arthur and D.W. are so much fun!
ARTHUR'S APRIL FOOL is one of the earlier books when the drawings of Arthur still gave him the longer head. And because it's an earlier book, all the characters you know from the wonderful TV series are here, but they look just a bit different than we're used to. It's a great story with a lot of depth and a lot of fun. The illustrations are so funny, with a lot of interesting details for kids to find. My favorite is always D.W., and she doesn't let me down here, either. The Arthur series is simply amazing and wonderful. It brings me great joy. I would get every one of the books in this affordable series of paperbacks.

3-0 out of 5 stars An ok book with a sense of humor.
It is not the best book in the world, but it is one of the few on April's Fool Day. I think my students will enjoy it's sense of humor.

1-0 out of 5 stars here's the bucket for the blood is not suitable for kids !
This book does not deter the violence and gore of today's youth. It enhances the problem. The magic trick, sawing in half and providing a bucket to catch the blood is hardly suitable language for children, especially 3-4 year olds...! IT SHOULD BE WITHDRAWN and DISCOURAGED. Most of Marc Brown's Authur books seem to be OK, otherwise and teach fairness and good judgment. However, this was a great disappointment. Good taste and judgment was aparently laid aside if not in the conception, but the developement of this magic show with a subtle dark side. Am I over sensitive? Maybe, but our three year old doesn't need to hear talk about buckets of blood just yet. One drop of arsnic in the glass of water is too much for me. Let's pour out the tainted water. Arthur's April Fool is tainted. There is too much violence and gore to be viewed later in life. When I grew up we had a steady diet of Barbar the elephant. He never cut anyone up or made passig reference to gore. Even the Cat in the Hat never reached this level of implied violence. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Too scary for children!
Though I like the idea of this book, as well as the talent behind the illustrations, after reading this to my children and seeing their anxiety about the huge, menacing black cat that scares the mice, my husband and I have decided not to read this anymore to them. The mouse family is sweet, and the intent of the story is admirable, with the littlest mouse giving his mother a thoughtful gift for Mother's Day. I understand that most plots have some type of conflict that is resolved, but we discovered that the cat in this book was too scary for young children. There is a full-page illustration of this cat's scary face and head which is unnecessary, I believe, to make this story a success. We absolutely love reading stories to our children, and in fact, don't watch T.V. as we want books to be a bigger part of their lives. I understand that some people value exposing their children to scariness in books as a way to explain these things in the safety of their home, but sometimes images can remain in a child's mind for a long time, and if it comes from a contrived situation, such as in a fictional story, the child may find it harder to reconcile within the context of real life. We found that our children had a hard time appreciating the point of the story, because they were too thrown by the big, black cat. These happen to be children who live on a farm and have a pet cat themselves! They've dealt with real-life "scariness" such as the death of animals, nearby sightings of bears, foxes and other wild animals...etc., but all of these fit within the context of their lives. I books, they seem to appreciate images and text that work well together-in this case, the cat is bigger than life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Greatest gfift is not the most expensive!
Favorite characters: Biggest Little Mouse, Middle Mouse, Little Mouse, and Mother

This book is about three mice who want to each get their mother a gift for Mother's Day. Each mouse wants to get the best gift, but it ends up being the littlest mouse who gets her the most unusual gift of all.
A nice book illustrated with colorful pictures that show these three little mice along their journey for presents. A nice story that shows how to share your love for your mother on Mother's Day.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Mother's Day Mice
I thought that this story is an excellent story for young children and their mothers to read together. This story about three, cute little mice is precious. They want to find the perfect present for their mother. The Little Mouse is the sweetest character I have read about in a while. They pass some dangerous situations as they search the meadow for the gifts. The surprise at the end of the story will make you so happy, that'll you'd do that for your mother! The story is a very cute story to read, especially around Mother's Day.The illustrations in it are very, very well done and the mice are the cutest mice ever!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Wonderful Gift!
This is another heart warming story. It shows how much love there is for family and what family will do to do something special for the people they love. The mice were searching for special gifts for Mother Mouse on Mother's day..... and Little Mouse found the most wonderful gift of all!!!I think it's a very sweet book on how much family will do for each other. It tells what the little mice had to do to get their mother their own special present for a special day.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Present of All
Big Mouse, Middle Mouse and Little Mouse (shades of the 3 bears) are so excited about Mother's Day that they are up two hours early. They hurry outside to find their parents. Little wants to give Mother a spray of honeysuckle, but Cat is sleeping on the porch of Honeysuckle Cottage. Soon it's too late to pick the flowers, so the mice hurry home. Little is sad because he has no gift for Mother, but soon he thinks of the very best present of all.

Beautifully illustrated, with rich and tender prose, this book is a special one with a lovely message about a gift that lives forever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Elizabeth George Speare Amazing as Usual!
Elizabeth George Speare only wrote four books that I'm aware of, and all but one were awarded a Newbery Award. (And the one that did not win an award, "Calico Captive," is one of my favorite books of all time!) Ms. Speare was quite simply a fantastic writer of historical fiction. Her books are written in a style suitable for young readers, but anybody who loves historical fiction will love her work regardless of age! It's such a shame that she did not write more books.

I admit that I had my reservations about "The Bronze Bow," since its setting in 1st century Judea seemed incongrous with Ms. Speare's other books which are all set in colonial New England. Also, although I'm a practicing Catholic, I was not keen on reading a fictional book with Jesus as a character fearing some very dry, preachy version of the most famous man in history would ruin the believability of the story. But my reservations were completly unfounded. Ms. Speare describes life in Roman occupied Judea with the same wonderful detail as she did colonial America. She ably describes the political/historical situation with great skill while weaving it into her fictional story of a young man deciding which path he will choose in life.

Daniel, the protagonist, is as three dimensional and believable as Kit Tyler in "The Witch of Blackbird Pond." In fact, all the characters are memorably brought to life especially Daniel's emotionally devastated, younger sister, Leah. However, the major surprise is Ms. Speare's portrayal of Jesus of Nazareth- what a wonderful depiction of that itinerate preacher. Jesus is a supporting but crucial character in the narrative, but Ms. Speare does not use him to preach to the reader. Instead, the reader, like Daniel, is left to decide who Jesus is- just a kind-hearted teacher? A miracle worker? Someone unwilling to take sides? The messiah? Daniel is puzzled by these questions because the Jesus he sees is just a human being and not a resurrected savior in glowing robes.

"The Bronze Bow" is arguably Ms. Speare's strongest novel, and that says alot considering her other work. It's historical fiction at its finest, and anyone who passes on it because of fears of it being "too religious" or "too preachy" are doing themselves a disservice. A great work of fiction is a great work fiction regardless if one of the characters happens to be Jesus of Nazareth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still powerful
I was first introduced to this book in my 8th grade English class. I enjoyed it so much then, I went out and read the author's other books. I recently picked this one up again and was amazed at how powerful it still was to me.

The story concerns Daniel, a young Jew at the time of Christ. He has an intense hatred of the Romans and lives with in an outlaw band in the hills. When his grandmother dies, he must move to the village to take care of his sister while trying to continue his life's mission of driving the Romans back to Rome. He is drawn to the miracle worker, but just doesn't know what he truly thinks about him. Is he the Messiah sent to free them from the Romans? And will his sister ever recover?

Ms. Speare was able to create a complex plot that is simple enough for her target age to understand, but still captivating to adults. I got so caught up in the events when I was rereading that I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this children's novel to readers of all ages.

4-0 out of 5 stars Way better than The Witch of Blackbird Pond!
The author of this book, Elizabeth George Speare, also wrote The Witch of Blackbird Pond. Both of them won a Newberry Medal. This book is so much better than "Blackbird Pond". It kept my attention and I couldn't put it down! The book taught lessons of leadership, patience, care, and love. It wasn't a romantic book but it was more about loving the people that matter to you and also loving your enemies.

I have recently been reading Tom Clancy novels that teach nothing of the sort but I found this book at a bookstore warehouse that was going out of business and I decided to give it a chance even though I didn't like my previous experience with the author. Everyone deserves a second chance, right? I am very glad that I chose to read this book and I think that you are missing out if you don't read it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Why Don't You Get It?
Those of you who are considering reading, or buying this book should get it from a library or a friend and try it out. You may not like it, but give it a shot first. Everyone has their own opinion or view on these type of books. If you do or don't like it, it doesn't matter. If you want to give your opinion, go ahead, but allow others to form their own and don't tell them whether they should read it or not.

After reading several of these reviews I've found that people who are forced to read something, have short attention spans, or prefer short or action-packed books should avoid this one. Make sure to look at this book and judge it by how well it fulfills it purpose: harmless ENTERTAINMENT. Look at it with a mature objective view.

I personally think its wonderful, but it depends on you. Bye!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bronze Bow
Adventure, bloodshed, romance, love, and religion. The Award winning novel, The Bronze Bow, by Elizabeth George Speare, combines all of these components. The story, which is set in Galilee in the year 31 A.D., tells of a boy named Daniel who is caught between fighting the Romans, whom he hates, and following the teaching of love from Jesus. Daniel is forced to choose and his decision will affect the rest of his life. The combination of historical accounts, biblical accounts, and the author's diction, creates a vivid picture, and a new mystery is unfolded with each turning of the page. ... Read more
