5-0 out of 5 stars The end of the world has come...and gone.
Five hundred years after the Mayflower and its crew left Earth before it was destroyed, Jobs and the others finally open their eyes to a world impossible to fathom. The terrain of this strange, new world is so unbelievable -- and it seems that it may pose a threatening danger to them, because they don't really know what's out there. Less than half of the eighty selected escapees survived the trip, and some of those undead are dying slowly, and because of never before seen diseases that may

contaminate the entire crew. Jobs, Mo'Steel, 2Face, and the others are desperate to understand this new world, and to cure the sick people that have awoken. But besides for the danger, there are some hideous revelations awaiting at every corner -- and some just may be unavoidable. Remnants #2: Destination Unknown is the exciting and unbelievably surprising second book in K.A. Applegate's all new Remnants series, which is proving time and again to replace the loss of Animorphs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Looks to be a promising series.......
It's been 500 years since an asteroid destroyed the Earth. It's been 500 years since the chosen 80 left Earth's orbit and began their journey to a new home. Their destination was unknown. And now that the survivors of that trip have awakened from their hibernation, they have no idea where they are. But that is the least of their problems. Not everyone survived the trip. They have no food, no water, and no idea if where they landed will support human life. As the survivors take stock of their surroundings, one thing becomes clear. They ship they were on did not bring them to this strange place. It shows no sign of going through a landing. On further inspection, the place where they 'landed' appears to be an environment created just for them. Can they survive in this new environment? What dangers await them? Who or what brought them to this place?

This second book in the Remnants series builds upon the first novel, and sets a strong foundation for what promises to be a great series. We not only find out who from the first book survived the trip, but we are introduced to other survivors as well. We meet Violet Blake (a 'Jane'), her mother Wylson, and a host of other characters who will shape this new society. As expected, the power hungry Yago was already making his bid for power by manipulating those around him. Not all will be manipulated to his way of thinking however, thus adding to the drama and tension of the situation. I am anxiously awaiting the next installment of this series. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the first novel in the Remnants series, or to anyone who is a fan of K.A. Applegate.

5-0 out of 5 stars The eighty have awakened....
After 500 years of hibernation, some of the eighty have awakened. Others haven't. Some never will. Tamara has a total freak baby. Billy was awake during the whole 500 years of the ride and is now in a coma. On top of all that, the Wakers are in a strange world where half of the landscape looks like something out of a colorful painting, and the other half is a black and white photograph.
The Wakers also get to meet some aliens. They are called the Riders. The Riders have two heads and fly around on hoverboards. One head is basically just for eating. Oh, and by the way, they aren't friendly.
You meet some new characters with strange nicknames. Rodger Dodger, Violet, Tate, Anamull, and various adults. Yago is already gathering followers.
This book is a little gross, what with flesh eating worms and the baby's melted eyeballs. However, it definately holds your attention and leaves you puzzling over what on earth (or wherever they are) is going on. I love it and would definately recommend it to younger sci-fi fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Continuation
After reading the first Remnant book, I didn't think there would be any better books. I was definitely wrong. This book introduced most of the Wakers of the Mayflower. The ones who survived. The first species of Aliens were discovered. There was a lot of action. After reading this, I couldn't wait to see what happened in the next book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Awakening
In the first book, we left off where the Eighty humans chosen to survive an asteroid (nicknamed The Rock)when it made impact started to hibernate, and we pick up 500 years later, and they are on this strange new "planet". Most of the Eighty are dead, and there are not many essential supplies on board the ship, then on top of that, these aliens are after the Eighty.(which is more like The Twenty) Will the human race become a thing of the past? ... 4-0 out of 5 stars What lies in the Tower?
Babel, the Tower of Babel. That's what the 2 groups of Remnant's
see on the Horizon.

Yago and Wylson think it would make a perfect battle station,to conqeur the Riders and the Blue Meanies, and eventually conqeur whatever put them in the ship, maybe even conquer Mother...

While Jobs,2FAce,Mo'steel,and the rest of their small group are just trying to stay alive...

Yago's group learns about Tamara and her Baby's power to eliminate the Blue MAenies and the Riders. She agrees to help again under one condition,Her Baby is getting hungry and it wants meat, human meat......

In Jobs group, they have stumvled into a living paitning,it's called "Last Judgement",it's one man's version of hell.they also have been comunicating to a Blue Meanie through Billy who is still unconcious...

I can't recomend this series enough!it maybe confusing and at times scary but there is just the right amount of scariness, and drama, and comedy, and much more!

Although the part of this book with "the LAst Judgement",was terribly frightening,I still recomend this book!

I also recomend the author's other series Animorphs, and Everworld...

Hope this Helped you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Creepy......
Okay,so here's whats going on for Jobs, and the other remnants:the group of remnants split up in the last book, right?Well, now Jobs,Mo'steel,Olga Gonzalez,Violet Blake, and Billy Weir (who is still in a coma),are trying to get to the Tower of Babel...
While they are doing that,Yago,2Face,Edward,T.R,Anamull, Rodger Doger,D-caf,Tamara and the baby,Burroway,Wylson, and the rest are trying to escape a rather frightening band of Riders.....After several encounters with Riders and Blue Meanies, Tamara informs them that if they want her to fight with the super-natural power she gets from the baby the baby needs a payment. The baby is getting hungry, very hungry, and it wants meat, human meat........
Well, the other group has found a injured Blue meanie and have started comunicating with it...It says its name is Four Sacred Streams, and he is a child of mother, well,"Mother",being the ship that they are on,and after being left alone for severl thousand years the ship has slowly gone insane....but they didn't have much time, because they inviroment they are in is from a painint by a man named Bosch,it's called "Last Judgement",It's a painting of hell and there is no way out......

5-0 out of 5 stars The Separation
Where we left off, everyone was split up. Now we switch back in forth during each chapter to be updated on what each group is doing. In one group, a boy Yago who was the president's son is trying to take charge spliting everyone up into groups: ormal and freak. And he picks on 2Face, a girl who was the victim of a fire, and Edward, a boy who was mutated and is like a Chameleon, changing with its backround. The other group is about to be killed by a painting (!) after learning important information about the "planet" they're on. How is the human race supposed to live on, or was this meant to be the end? I couldn't put this book down, I don't know about you, because some people like my friend don't have the stomach for this series. But the few of us who do should enjoy K.A.'s work.

5-0 out of 5 stars I guess so
To me, it deserves 5 stars, but to some other readers it may be just horribly horrible. The plot is extremely confusing and the reader may just stop wanting to read the book once they're into the first chapter. However, to those who find it interesting, they may want to keep reading because of all the unexpectble things that always seem to happen to the people who are the last members of the human race. All I want to know is what will become of those people, and how Applegate will conclude the series.

4-0 out of 5 stars as if one living painting wasnt enough...
mother likes making dangerous artwork! she sends one group of the remnants, miss blake, jobs, mo'steel, olga gonzalez and the forever-sleeping billy weir from the tower of babel to hell. meanwhile, wylson is under the impresssion that she could turn the tower of babel into a base or something when it disappears. and the secret of the eyeless-mutant-alien-baby-thing is finally told... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Remnants.......
Now that the Remnants have destroyed the Node, they are in the land of the Riders, back how Mother was before the Mayflower. They're in a land of copper-colored seas, small marsh-like islands,Large pinkish "Blimps",and Riders......well,atleast the 2 groups are back together, sort of......Yago is trying to separate the normal people from the freaks, like 2Face,Billy,and Edward. He craves power,he needs a way to get it,but how?The Group of Remnants struggle to survive,as Mother tries to kill them...........

5-0 out of 5 stars The last of us...
500 years from home and the last of us, the Remnants have finally found out their true environment they landed on before Mother changed everything for them. This new environment might be even more dangerous than the last...a land full of pink blubbery blimps, riders, and slimy sucker that look like eels. It is an ocean environment with many surprises. The Remnants must bind together to defeat their environment. But right now the environment is winning and the Remnants aren't exactly working together. There are the so called mutants: 2Face, Edward, Billy Weir, and Tamara's baby, Then there is their leader Wylson( however even that isn't set. The presidents son Yago wants nothing more than to be in charge of things.) Emotions are all on high and this small group of humans, the last of our kind, are falling apart. There are inner battles...the one most dangerous between the mutant baby and Billy Weir. There is something about Billy that makes the baby on edge. Then there is the battle for power between Yago and Wylson. All and all the Remnats will have to work together to their best of ability to defeat the environment not meant for them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Remnants books 1-4
The author, K.A. Applegate, has written the Animorphs series, but most people don't know that she has started a Remnants series as well. The story begins with Jobs, Mo Steel, and Two Face. They're kids that all live normal lives on earth in the year 2011. It is discovered that an asteroid seventeen miles long is on a collision course with Earth. Impact is only a few days away. Eighty people, including Jobs, Mo Steel, and Two Face, are strapped into an unprepared space shuttle with experimental hibernation berths. Mankind's only hope for the survival of their species is launched into space in hopes of landing on a suitable planet.

After five-hundred years, some people wake up, while others died in hibernation. The survivors, including Jobs, Mo Steel, and Two Face, are in a very strange land. Some people are deformed and act very strangely. These survivors struggle to survive in this world that looks like a very odd painting. They encounter Blue Meanies, Riders, and giant blimp-like creatures filled with laughing gas. Will the homosapien species survive?

I have read up through the fourth book, and am waiting for the fifth to be published. I love the odd things in these books that no average mind could come up with. There are some very weird happenings. Deformaties turn human against human even though, more importantly, alien creatures are out to kill them all. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes a good fiction novel. These books keep you wondering what is going to happen next.

4-0 out of 5 stars In the Middle of Nowhere.....
The Group of 'Remnants' is lost, that's all there is to it,they are lost.they are stuck in a ship that calls it self 'mother',they are in a computer generated enviroment,in the middle of a cooper-colered sea in a ship 500-hundred years from an earth thats doesn't exist any mor.face it,they are in Nowhere land..........

4-0 out of 5 stars whats up with yago?...
the remnants join together again, then they ride things called blimps. Mo'Steel and Jobs take some hoverboards and fight some riders. they get on some version of the uss constitution and accidently blow up a statue which makes the blue meanies pissed as hell, so they start firing darts everywhere. some people are knocked overboard, some are shot. yago finally gets his dream: control of everyone...except tamara and the baby ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I got chills!
The Remnants are at the mercy of a computer program called Mother that has the ability to create artificial enviroments from information that she is given.
Billy is awake now and has wierd powers. The baby seems to fear him.
Two new Remnants have been discovered. Kubrick and his father Alberto. Kubrick is a mutant. Mother skinned him and covered him with a strange clear skin that doesn't allow him to feel pain. Unfortunately, he is now monstrous looking. He looks like something out of an anatomy book. All of his muscles are visible. To put it lightly, he's ticked about it.
Yago keeps trying to draw a line between the normals and the freaks (a.k.a. 2Face, Billy, Edward, and now Kubrick) but isn't doing too well with his leadership plans.
On top of all this, Billy thinks that Mother may not be good or evil, just insane.
I felt so bad for Kubrick. I'm also starting to like 2Face a lot less. She and Yago keep locking horns and, quite frankly, it does start to grate on my nerves. Still, its a great book. Read 1-4 first though. These books are hard to keep up with if you start in the middle.

4-0 out of 5 stars ITS NOT GOOD IIITTTSSS GGGGGRRRREEEEEAAAAATTTTT
Remnants: Mutation is a great book about a group of people who get trapped on an insane ship that can make different living environments. I think the climax of the story is when some of the main characters are stuck in an environment that the computer of the ship and Billy Wiere, one of the main characters, are trying to make in different ways. Even though this book is short I would highly recommend it to someone who has a little spare time on his or her hands.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Discovery
Two of the survivors find a new Remnant they didn't know about, who has suffered a strange mutation. This is where the book series gets a bit repetitive, meaning: They've been on this ship for 3 books so far, I mean there's a little to much detail. I'm not putting the series down, I'm obsessed with it!! All that I'm saying is a little more happening would be good. The cover is also pretty gross. Whoever designed it shouldn't have showed the guy's face, I mean why not show Mo or something? (I'm pretty sure it's Jobs on the first book)

4-0 out of 5 stars The struggle continues...
Billy and Mo'Steel have been separated from the rest of the group and are trapped in the basement of what seems to be the ship. There they meet two Remnants, Alberto and his son Kubrick. Kubrick, however, has gone through a strange mutation that makes him into a living, breathing monster or whatever you'd like to call it. The four struggle with another dangerous environment below and find a surprising discovery, Mother.

Jobs, 2Face, Yago, and the rest of the Remnants are still trapped on the Constitution and time is running out because the ship is capsizing fast. Not only that but British war ships are attacking them all at the same time. Can Billy, the kid who stayed awake for 500 years, help save them? Can he beat Mother at a mind game that he can't even control?

This was another edge of your seat edition ofr Remnants where more weird thing happened that at times were confusing. The switching from node to node made things even more complicated. Still this book overall was pretty good. Can't wait for the rest of the Remnants books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, if lacking direction.
From the first page - on which the somewhat disgusting and definitely unique mutation on the cover is described - onward my full opinion of the series of events consisted of one word: "What???" With event after event and plot twist after plot twist, I found myself at the end of a somewhat short novel in a completely different state of mind than at the beginning. The characters are killed off or changed dramatically with each chapter - which does, if not anything else, make for an interesting story. All the characters have been developed wonderfully (or horribly, depending on your point of view) and the "good guys" and "bad guys" aren't as clear as they seemed to be in Book 1. There was much too little of Tamara and her baby - especially after the past few books have brought interesting foreshadowing and info about them - but I suppose that's what more books are for. The books never focus on one character or situation in particular, which makes a confusing web of different paths, and no clear direction. The end...well...for the sake of not revealing too much, I'll just say the end was a strange way to pull things together. Off to wait impatiently for book 6. . . :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Good One
In this book the remnants are tired of fighting and want to make a piece treaty with Billy in control of the ship. The Blue meanies don't want that however and they have some new toys or "weapons" that they plan on using. Blue meanies aren't the only thing terrorizing the humans though. There's a new race of humans being born on the ship that's human but not. Violet also has a new secret to share but will it hurt more than help you'll have to read this action packed book to find out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
I really enjoyed Remnants #9 No Place Like Home. There was a lot of action in this book, especially near the end. A new character was introduced in this book. Some new mutations occured. 5-0 out of 5 stars Yago is twisted.
After hooking up with Mother, Billy says that she is offering them a deal. If they will kill the Blue Meanies, she will make a recreation of earth for them. Billy says they shouldn't, but Yago, thirsty for power, says yes. Mother digs into his twisted mind and puts together a battle between him and the Blue Meanies set next to a sports stadium in Washington D.C. with the whole Union Army from the Civil War behind him. It's very strange.

You also get to meet two more Remnants, Dr. Cohen and Noyze, who were kidnapped by the Blue Meanies. Apparently both the Blue Meanies and the Riders want Mother for themselves and blame the humans for all these strange enviroments.

The baby's true identity is revealed. It's totally in control of Tamara, but Tate constantly follows her around. Tate is convinced that Tamara is still alive in that body, and she wants to free her from the baby.

This one was really good, but once again, don't read it unless you've read the others first. Otherwise you'll have a really hard time keeping up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Breakdown.................
Billy has just told the group Mother's bargain...
She wants them to destroy the Blue meanies.
If they do She will give them anything...
No one likes the Idea but Yago.He agrees and everyones is transportede to this twisted land made from memories and dreams inside Yago's head...
Yago's the president at the white house, leading the civil war soldiers into batlle with blue Aliens at a football field.
Oh Boy,why did they ever leave earth?

All I can say is Remnants Rocks!I love this series, and this ws a wonderful addittion!Although it was a little confusing how it would just jump from person to person, but after a while you will get used to it...I'm also very exicted about the 2 new Characters,I think there are 4 more new wakers to come!I can't wait for the next book!I love this series and you will to so buy this book!

Hope this wasa helpful to you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Action movie or book?
i think that this book really picks up the pace in the series. sometimes though, i felt that the author tried to rush things and didn't explain them well. overall though, this book really explain's yago and is one of the better remnant's books. i though think that the first is the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Book of All Time
The Remnants are a group of survivors that escaped from the asteroid that wiped out earth and have been floating in space for 500 years in hibernation. Then they landed on a ship and are now trapped on that ship controlled by a super computer called Mother. They are now going to challenge Mother. The other people that have tried to fight and take over have failed and have now gone crazy. There only hope now is a boy named Billy that has some how been able to create a bond with mother. They also learn through him that Mother is lonely and about the Shipwrights. They have also learned that Mother can create new environments and even new worlds. She can even create a computer-generated earth. But will they survive long enough for Billy to take over?
I thought that this is a great book. This is one of the best-written books that I have ever read. I would suggest reading the others and this one if you're a Sci-fi fan.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wow, this series is wack
I, personally, thought the 1st book in this series was good, but it seemed that after that, Applegate didn't know where to go with it, but had to write something, and this is the result. 5-0 out of 5 stars Slow but well written!
I enjoyed reading Remnants #8 Mother, May I?. The Remnants have finally settled into a part of the Ship, Mother, called the Zone. Billy has become the programmer, controlling the whole ship. One day, Jobs finds a place resembling Earth in the sky, but if Billy takes the Ship to Earth, it will break the Big Compromise. Billy sends Jobs and some of the other Remnants down into Mother's "basement" to investigate the part of Mother that Billy can't access. Back in the Zone, Blue Meanies are demanding to see Yago, so thet can receive the "touch." Who or what will Jobs and others find in the "basement"? Why are the Blue Meanies demanding to see Yago? Will Billy break the Big Compromise, and take the Ship to Earth?

Find out by reading Remnants #8 Mother, May I?.

3-0 out of 5 stars Far from K.A.'s best work
500 years after they left Earth, the remaining Remnants(numbers still dwindling), have finally seemed to settle down after the "Big Compromise". However, everyone knows it is no "real" life, for everything is computer-generated by Billy. So, when Jobs finds a mysterious object that looks very much like the remnants of what "Earth" used to be, will the Remnants be able to convince Billy to break the Big Compromise and turn the ship around? And what about all the other troubles brewing that everyone still doesn't know about? Such as Yago, and his secret plottings with the Blue Meanies? What about Amelia, a new Remnant they discover, whose mutation is beyond weird...and the questions she raises about what Billy truly is? What about the other missing remnants that Amelia hints at?

To me Remnants has been a disappointment(except book #2) to me. We keep hearing the same old stories. I'm tired of the battles between the Remnants, Blue Meanies, Rider, etc...How many useless pages do we waste on that? The bickering between 2Face and Yago has just gotten old. Even Jobs and Mo'Steel seemed to have lost their magic. I just hope K.A. gets the series back on track soon, or it'll be another series of disappointing reviews.

1-0 out of 5 stars LOUSY!!!
"Mother May I?" went at a slow pace compared the previous Remnants books. Billy has seized control of mother, to an extent, and the aliens and humans have reached a compromise. But, once again, its the stupid earthlings that ruin the compromise. Surprise! Surprise! War comes up again. I think that K.A. Applegate has done a very good job of proving a point: we humans are a bunch of selfish, power hungry jerks. Yago and 2Face are at it again. And their quarrels now involve more than just the other humans. Basically, read it if you must. I think I'll get number 9 at the local library when it comes out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remnants fan
Fantastic book, a must buy for all remnants fans out there.
I mean, come on! Its only the 8th book and already were gripped to the series. I dont know about you but i am checking amazon everyday to see when the next book is being published. Anyway this is supposed to be review. So thats what im going to do, review the book.In the last book the Blue meanies and the squids and the riders were at all out war until Billy stopped them by gaining control over Mother. Now the remnantshave their own small part of the ship to call their "home," although its more like a home away from home. Anyway, Jobs has found a planet that looks like the remains of the old Earth. Now jobs must convince the others to get billy to steer the ship towards it. Billy has only one favour to ask, that Jobs go to a part of the ship that Billy can't see through Mother. The remnants also gain a new member to thier diminished numbers. This new member may be hiding something. Who nows. You'll just have to read the book to find out more. ... Read more

K.A. Applegate, author of the wildly popular Animorphs books, begins abrand new series with a bang. In the gripping Mayflower Project, thefirst of the Remnants series, she establishes several diverse characters and thetensions and alliances between them and sets them on their way into the wildblue yonder. Hip lingo, faintly futuristic technologies, and kid-next-doorcharacterizations draw readers in--the plot hooks 'em for good.

The cast of characters? A 14-year-old technogeek who calls himself Jobs aftercomputer king Steve Jobs; the angry, aggressive son of America's AfricanAmerican woman president; a dreamy, psychic boy, adopted as a toddler from anorphanage in Chechnya; and a driven, strikingly beautiful, yet horriblydisfigured girl who calls herself 2Face. The year is 2011 and these four, alongwith 76 others, are destined to meet on a hastily jerry-rigged shuttle whosesole aim is to leave Earth before the giant asteroid that is hurtling throughspace blows the planet to smithereens. Amid confusion, skepticism, and sheerpanic as the world comes to terms with its impending, inevitable doom, thechosen few are whisked to Cape Canaveral to board a pitifully small, shabbysteel tube NASA has optimistically named the Mayflower. They leaveeverything behind, including any hope of returning; vast, endless space is theonly certainty in their future.

Applegate's hungry Animorphs fans, perhaps a little older now, will be thrilledwith her latest series, knowing the 80 earth escapees have many, many rivetingadventures ahead of them. After all, the sky's the limit. (Ages 9 and older)--Emilie Coulter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Review Project
When this book came out the first I was totally hooked with Harry Potter so I thought this was another of another of all those cheesy series, so I didn't buy it.
I wasn't interested in this book for a long time until last week when I was browsing through my local book that it caught my attention. I spent looking at the front cover for about one minute, and without even reading the back or the first few pages I decided to buy it.
When I got home I started reading it and for the first time noticed that the author was the famous K. A. Applegate, creator of the extremely famous series Animorphs which I was a total fan of and the dissapointing EverWorld series.
I learned through reading it that this book was about an asteroid in a collision course with the earth and a project called Mayflower (Well, that explains the name) that promises eighty people the chance of survival by sending them in an old ship with a hybernation technology to look for another planet that can support human life.
When I finished the book I inmediately wrote this review and can't wait to buy the second one,.
I recommend this book to fans of Animorphs and even though it is not as good as her first series it is worth a read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remnants:The Mayflower Project (A Great Book)
I loved the book Remnants:The Mayflower Project By Katherine A. Applegate. It is great for people that are into futuristic books.
My favorite parts were when the 80 people who were chosen to board a ship to leave earth to get away from the Rock (huge asteroid), and there is a gun battle. Another part is when Jobs and Mo'Steel, the 2 main characters, have to open the solar sail in space manually, and Jobs sees the Rock hit the earth.
I would recommend this book to people who like futuristic and action books because that's what the book is about. Remnamts is an interesting book to read because it happens not to far in the future and people that are alive then will see if it comes true or not. The year it happens is 2011 so that's 8 years from now (2003).
Remnants is about a boy named Jobs and his best friend Mo'Steel who loves adrenilen rushes. Jobs is in love with a girl from his school, she dies when a chunk of the Rock hits the earth and send a spike flying at her and hits her in the heart. 80 people are chosen to leave earth and save the human race.
If you read this book and like it there are more out there. I have heard there are about 11 books in the sequal so far. I want to but haven't read them all yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remnants, Mayflower Project
Remnants, Mayflower Project is about saving the human race before an asteroid hits the earth. Jobs, the main character, had been selected to go on the Mayflower Project along with eighty other people to try to save the human race. This book had great detail about the near future of 2011 and what things are used to keep the eighty passengers on the ship alive. The Author describes the characters that are going to be keys later on in the journey such as Jobs, a computer tech who steps up to be the hero when nobody else does, Mo'Steel, a daredevil/idiot-savant who has had more steel bone replacements than anybody, 2face, a girl who had her face torn up by a fire and was scheduled to get it fixed, but the rock came, Yago, the President's son who is greedy for leadership, D-Caf, a stowaway on the Mayflower Project and is scared about what is going to happen to them.

K.A. Applegate used great words while describing the impact of the asteroid and Earth. This made me think what would I do if I was stuck on a ship heading for nowhere, or what would I do if I was stuck on Earth waiting for the rock to hit? The author gave good examples from both sides such as the rioting of the people on Earth and the frightened people on the people on the ship.

I liked this book because it made me imagine what it would be like knowing that the world was going to end. It is depressing at times, thinking about all of those people who are going to die, but then you start wondering about the chance of saving the human race you just have to do it. That would be a tough thing to do. The thing I didn't like about the book was, well now that I think about it I liked it all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Depressing, fascinating apoctalypyic story...
No matter what I might say about lack of character development, how depressing this story about the end of the world, this book just fascinated me. I couldn't put it down, and read the next two books the same night.

Seven billion people die, the world is blown into three pieces, this book is sad and depressing in turns. But it's one of those things where you're like: "Who's going to live? Is Billy seeing the future?" Just read it, is all I'm saying. It may be dark, but it pulls you in.

5-0 out of 5 stars The earth is no more....
An asteroid is on collision course towards earth and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it. When it hits earth, the impact will be like shooting a bullet through a soft-boiled egg.
There's only one chance for the survival of humans. An old spaceship is fitted with hibernation booths for eighty people. It will be sent out into space toward a star they think might have a planet that can support life. Only there is no promise that the eighty will ever wake up.
This is the book that hooked me into the Remnants series. I love the way K.A.Applegate writes the different chapters from the different characters points of view.
In this book you're introduced to Jobs, the techie. His bestest buddy MO'Steel, the adrenaline junkie. 2Face, a girl with half her face burned off in an accident. Billy Wier, a strange kid who has visions in his dreams. D-Caf, a hiper kid who doesn't have an invitation on board the ship. Tamara, a pregnant marine sergeant with an attitude. And Yago, the President's spoiled kid with big issues.
If you read this book, you'll have to read the next one. I loved it so much that I've read it about 10 times. Enjoy! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars K.A., you make me cry.
It was painfully obvious that K.A. didn't have her heart in this book. It appears her talents were dried up after she finished Animorphs and Everworld (two verrrrry good series.) The idea for this series was great, but K.A. turned it into a succession of books that eventually led nowhere and explained nothing.

I mean, the ending was horrible. K.A. doesn't bother to explain anything at all. She writes off the characters and gives them a paragraph to explain their lives, and then move on to the next one. She never explains several visions that occur in the book, expecting us to become super-duper Sherlock Holmes and solve the meaning of the scenes, when later in the book they don't even have any significance! I know K.A. is famous for leaving us with uncompleted endings, but it seems to me that she's only using that ability to make an excuse for mysteries she can't piece together herself, so she hands it to us.

Don't get me wrong. This book (or more specifically, this series) is K.A. at her worst. She is a terrific author with Animorphs and Everworld, and I definitely recommend those to any reader, but she just doesn't shine here. Great idea and characters, K.A., but not a good execution.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE FINAL REMNANTS BOOK
I'm so sad that this series is over, but at least Katherine gave us a much better ending that she did for Animorphs and Everworld. They ended on such huge cliffhangers that I almost screamed in frustration: I'm the kind of person who always has to know what happens.

The book was very good, but not as good as SURVIVAL, which was soooooooo good, man! It dragged a little, and they sat around a lot trying to decide. . . well, just read the book, BUT ONLY IF YOU'VE READ ALL THE OTHERS, that's the only way to fully enjoy it.

There were many unanswered questions, such as: how did they restore life on earth? This was never explained at all! All we know is it involved Billy, Mother/ Daughter, and Echo's baby. Whatever happened to the Beasts and the other Alphas? How exactly did Tate manage to travel back in time? And at the end she makes it seem like they're all dead and just in heaven! Sort of, anyway.

AND THERE WAS NO WORD ON D-CAF! Whatever happened to him? He was my favorite character, and he was almost completely cut out of the last few books!

But it was really beautiful how she finished 2Face's story, and it was a far more finalic ending than for her other series.

All in all, it was a page turner, for me at least, and, while not the best ending in my opinion, it could have been worse. So, I'll give it four stars. I would give her three for all of the stuff above, but she gets some points for the final ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty decent ending for awesome series...
The ending of Remnants versus the ending of Animorphs? Remnants wins, hands down. Most exciting ending? Animorphs. But I liked the fact that KAA actually ENDED Remnants. I think that may be the reason for the void of continuation fanfics on fanfiction.net like those that dominate the Ani-fandom. Remnants was an awesome series. I loved the different characters, the different settings, the strange mutations...everything. And I even kind of liked the ending. I just wish it had been a little more exciting. But I do recommend this book to any Remnants fan; you've gotta read this one. How else will you know how it ended?

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a fulfilling ending
This book was ok, but the last book had more of a attention getter. This book was slow and then it ended slowly. It never really got exciting during the whole story until they find Tate's last message to them and then it is a little more entertaining but still slow and kind of boring. I had to read it because the last book was so cool and I had to know how it ended. Animorphs and Everworld at least had an open ending which made you think what happens now. With Remnants it is, this happens and that's it. The end. They never actually tell you exactly what happens to get the ending of this book. You will turn the page and start thinking "I can't wait to see what happens next" and then its ten years in the future and Jobs tells what its like now and that all the ending is.

4-0 out of 5 stars The End of the Beginning and The Beginning of Something New
The Remnants, Maruderors (I know I did not spell that right but who cares), and a few Alphas have finally reached the Source, which turns out to be Mother/Daughter. Inside, they find two old friends, who speak to them and tell them that using three things, they will be able to make the Earth green again. As most the group makes sure everything is ready for the 'regreening' ceramony, some meambers of the group make plans to stop the ceramony. Will these characters accomplish their plans to ruin the ceramony. And even more important, is Echo willing to give up the thing that is most precious to her in order to try to bring her friends a better life?

An awsome book with an awsome ending to an awsome seires!!! The last chappie was my favorite!!! GET THIS BOOK OR BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN TO YOU!!! ^-^ ^-^ ^-^ You'll be glad you read this seires!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This one was great!
Okay, in the last book, the Remnants had split up into two groups. One with Tamara and her baby in the lead, one following 2Face. In the the Tamara group are Yago, Tate, Rodger Dodger, T.R., Burroway, D-Caf, and Anamull. In the 2Face group, Jobs, MO'Steel, Olga, Violet, Dr. Cohen, Noyze, Billy, Edward, and Kubrick. They are both trying to get to the bridge of the ship.

Tamara goes to meet with a group of Riders while unknowingly being followed by Tate. What Tate sees there disturbs her so much, that she runs off to warn the others. She, D-Caf, and Rodger Dodger then experience a hoverboard ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This one kept me on the edge of my seat. I feel horrible for Kubrick, who practically worships 2Face. She, of course, ignores him with an indifference that makes me want to slap her. This book was great, the only thing was that some of the characters are really starting to get on my nerves.

4-0 out of 5 stars Switching gears - pivotal to the series.
This book serves as a transitional piece in the Remnants series, much like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is to the Harry Potter septology.

The book takes up from the sixth book with the Remnants split into factions. 2Face assumes the leadership of one group, and they head toward the bridge. Tamara and the baby lead the smaller group, which heads toward a Rider camp.
Tate wants to aid the residual human in Tamara and follows her deep into the enemy camp. What she sees greatly disturbs her and she narrowly escapes.
Tate, Roger Dodger and D-Caf try a daring scape of some of the Riders' hoverboards. The chase scene that follows will have you sick with anticipation until its breathtaking resolution.
Yago takes a peripheral role in this novel, but he does start to believe that he pure and chosen by Mother to continue a new non-marred human civilization on her ship.

2Face nearly takes the role of Yago in her group, becoming angry when others are hesitant to follow her lead. Kubrick has feelings for this girl and protects her with his life.
Upon nearing the bridge, a massive battle breaks out. The Riders have nasty moves, but the Meanies have some tricks up their sleeves. As more and more are killed in the battle, the Baby grows stronger. The baby's true identity is confirmed in the novel as well as the location of the bridge.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best Yet!!!
I thought that this was a great and exciting book. I liked the part though when some of the remnants got to use the hover boards. This book was filled with adventure and excitement. Some of the parts are pretty graphic though. There was a big battle scene and I think you'll find it interesting to see how it turns out. There is also a great secret that arises with the people in the group. I thought the secret was unexpected and that it really brought some excitement to the book. Overall I think that you'll love it. Have Fun!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not One Of The Best
I have read all of the books in the series so far and this is not one of the best. This is a good writer but I don't think that he put all that he could've in this book. It starts in the middle so you better read the rest of the books in the series before this one. The book is kind of slow and about which group will take over Mother. I have read the next book in the series though and it is by far better than this one so you kind of have to read this one first. Have Fun!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars best book yet!
this is the best book i've read out of the seven that are out. the true identity of the baby is formed and earth's remnants have to try and stop it. but there is only person who can. and for all of you action lovers, there is an awesome fight with the baby/shipwright and the one teenager who can stop him. the shipwright is actually afraid of the offender, because he knows that there's a small chance that the human will discover his true power and destroy the shipwright, so he must try to destroy him first. mean while another fight rages on as two humans(tamara hoyle an Mo'steel) fight as puppets...well you're gonna have to read it to see who wins and what happens after it. but it is a great book, and i loved it and so will you. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars The turning point in the series
Lost and found, more than any other Remnants book, is a huge turning point in the series. After eight books spent on Mother, the Remnants finally arrive back home on Earth. Only it's not quite what they expected, hoped for, or even wanted.

This is also perhaps the weakest, and darkest, book in the series. The Earth the Remnants discover is a complete wasteland. How are they going to survive without the ship? The Troika are still working against them, and the Remnants faith in Jobs is weakening.

We get a final inner-thought process look at all our characters for the last time as the descend down to Earth, making this the most character development we've seen thus far in the series. But our characters still seem two-dimensional, and the story is narrowing down - along with the cast of characters - so that all we are left with by the end of the book is a desperate situation with a bunch of characters we only half care about. By this point we're just curious about what's going to happen, and of course, as always, who'll survive - or more appropiately, die next.

This book also has the distinction of being the only one divided into two parts: Part one - the ship, and Part two - planet earth.
It is also the shortest book at 134 pages long, and, despite the information posted everywhere, was published in December of 2002, not January of 2003. I bought the book before 2003, so I know.

All in all, I would only read this book as part of the series. Reading it by itself. . . sadly, it falls short of the mark as a stand alone. But for me, it was an interesting page turner. But, then again, I'm a very devoted fan of the series.

Prognosis: must for Remnants fans, not for all those other guys.

4-0 out of 5 stars You Can't Go Home Again
Everyone knows what's coming, of course. In this book, the Remnants finally make it to the remains of their home planet, ticking off a great deal of people and aliens in the process. Is there anything -- or anyONE -- left alive? I can't review the plot, because it exists mainly as a series of connected scenes and dialogues. Instead, I will make a few teasingly cryptic notes.

1. Book 9's cliffhanger ending isn't really resolved, as this one starts ninety days later. Two of the Remnants, it turns out, died at the end of Book 9, and two more die in Book 10. Yikes. Annoyingly, their deaths aren't made enough of, and the other characters don't react strongly enough. Oh, well.

2. We haven't learned everything about Violet and her mutation yet.

3. The Troika are finally revealed in their entirety. Just wait'll you meet Duncan.

4. Tate's mutation manfiests itself. Let's just say: be afraid. Be very afraid.

5. Yes, Book 10 has another cliffhanger ending. If you thought things were looking bad last time...

6. This is the shortest Remnants book yet. Sorry.

I think I've teased you enough. Now you HAVE to buy the book! Hee hee hee! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Entire Series!
This Remnants book is the best yet! It beat the entire Animorphs series. In this book, most of the answers unfold right in front of you and you slowly start to understand what these people are going through. Later on in it you start to actually feel how they did.
I'm not going to spoil the end but all I'm going to say is it's shocking and odly sad. It really was the best ending for a book i've ever read!

4-0 out of 5 stars A sad and touching book, the best Remnants yet...
After the last 3 books in this series turned out to be a little dissapointing, especially after how good number 9 was, I was positive this book would be much better. Ang guess what? I was right.

In this one Tate is stuck on Mother with the Troika and Yago, who were trying to eat her.(Just the Troika, not Yago.) I won't say any more, because I'd really spoil the book for those who haven't read it, but I will say this: this book was much more about charecter development and as a build up to the conclusion than any others. Charecters actually changed in a good way by the end of the book, and because there are only a handful of charecters it was much more indepth all around. In fact, by the end of the book I actually liked Yago!!! That's a miracle in of itself. Even Amelia wasn't so bad by the end. And the ending is a little confusing, but very sad and touching. And don't worry, the otherson earth haven't left the story entirely, thaks to some mysterious, possibly prophetic dreams Tate has through the whole book.

This book is a return to the kind of style that made books like The last books of Everworld and Animorphs so good.

I only gave this 4 stars because of the confusing ending, and what appears to be some hasty writing. All I can say is, even if you're not a Remnants fan, you'll like this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Yet
Wow. What an interesting turn of events. KA basicly takes what you think is going to happen to Yago, the Trokia, and Tate then turns it on its head and tosses it out the window. If you ever imagined that you would never like Yago, or Amelia of all people, just wait for the end. Tate actually becomes an interesting character in this book, whereas before I'd never really cared about her. And of course we get the setup for the final book--from the sound of it KA may blotch it with a tried and true Sci Fi cliche, however I believe there is another possiblity so I have my fingers crossed.

3-0 out of 5 stars The end is near
All good things must come to an end. Well, this good thing may not be so good any more. As you all probably know, book number 13- Survival- is the second to last book in the remnants series. Now that we got that out of the way, we can move on to the plot.

Since the large portion of the Remnants were stranded on earth, we haven't heard anything about what ever happened to Tate, Yago and the Troika. Well, they're the center of attention this time around. I don't want to give too much away, so I will stick to basics. The three members of the Troika are mutating into 'higher' life forms, and they need food- and lots of it. Soon it becomes that Tate and Yago are the only things left on Mother, so you can assume what they try to do. Well, that backfires, and with Tat going 'Mouth' all the time, your never sure what's next.

Ah, can't say much more. A few people die - unmeaningful deaths in my opinion, but we'll see in the next book. Some of you like myself were fans of K.A.Applegate's previous series, Animorphs, which I myself also loved, until the ending. We shall soon see how Remnants will end, and lets all hope it's something better than before.

Hope this helped, And good luck. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's all about Mo
Okay, maybe it wasn't all about Mo--but this is one of the first books to give him the focus, and I think that this was a good thing. Mo is an interesting character, and one of the greatest mistakes K.A has made is giving him only 'side kick' status. That said this book isn't as bad in my opinon as some of the other reviewers seem to be making it out to be. I found the Marauders to be an interesting people and the books second focus is most certainly them. Also nice were bits thrown in to keep suspense--including an appearance by Billy, and gasp--the last of the missing remnants if the voice he heard is to be believed. I definatly agree that the books must be read in order. It really is a shame that this series never caught on to the popularity of Animorphs, so if you stopped reading, or haven't started I would go to the bookstore and give this series a try--it really is brilliant.

3-0 out of 5 stars Oh, dear. . .
I have to admit, I've been a big fan of Remnants for about seven months now, and I stood by after Lost and Found, and whole Dreamstorm was better, Aftermath sunk back to 3 star level.

If you're a fan you should definitely read this one. Remnants is one of those series where you'll be completely lost if you don't read them in order. Otherwise, just don't.

Some good things about it is that Billy is not dead. The ending was good, and we have a cliffhanger ending. I don't understand why Echo's on the cover. She only made a 10 page appearance and has very little relevance to the story.

At any rate there was little story. But it ahd a message. The Remnants taught the Marauders to be human again. Survival does bad things to your humanity.

But never fear, I have a strong feeling the next book will be REALLY great. The sample was, anyway.

To KA: Great work! keep it coming!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best, but still good
I completley agree with the last reviewer, this is probably one of the worst books in the series. That said K.A. never writes a bad book, so its still worth reading. Be warned YOU MUST READ EACH BOOK CHRONOLOGICALLY FROM NUMBER ONE! A lot of this book is the renmants walking around with the very boring Marauders.
But it is Required reading if you want to follow the story of the remnants. I can't wait for the final two books in the series, but i'll be sad to say goodbye to Jobs, Mo'steel, 2Face and the gang. In the words of one of the Marauders "J'ou should definitely read this book just so j'ou can be prepared for the final j'ou- i mean two books"

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the greatest, but still good
This remnants was probably somewhere along the bottom of the best in the series. The whole book was about the Marauders and Remnants (the Alphas stay behind, unfortunately) traveling to the Dark Zone. Very boring.

Some bad things were:

Billy gets a half chapter appearance. He needs more appearances.

Again, no Tate.

No major deaths. Okay, two Marauders die, but they were like the least important characters.

The final battle was WAY too short. I know the Remnants have done some pretty unbelievable stuff, but I think Mo'Steel isn't exactly Sir Galahad. The fight is based on TWO attacks!

Some good things are:

Well, the Missing Five have finally been revealed. Not surprisingly, they have formed a connection with Billy.

Jobs and Mo'Steel temporarily break up.

Ending is, once again, a cliffhanger.

2Face becomes a jumper to conclusions.

We have finally heard about the Source.

The sample chapter is awesome.

What I really don't understand is how K.A. is going to wrap up the series in two more books. Really, one, since the next one is completely focused on tate, I think. That means she will probably have to hurry it along, which I really don't want. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A dark, depressing, intruiging page-turner
After Lost and Found this book manages to rise above its predecessor in quality, but delves even deeper into Applegate's dark, depressing, intruiging story.

Stranded on the post-apocalyptic, rather inhospitable Earth, the remaining Remnants struggle to survive, though it seems unlikely. How they manage to survive, not just on Earth, but through the rather cataclysmic pychotropic Dream Storm. . . well, that's why you read the book.

This is the last book where D-Caf makes a significant appearnace, and where we get our first in depth look at the Alphas, survivors of the apocalypse, and most particularly Echo, and a look our first look at the Marauders, the other group of survivors, although their society is covered more in the next book.

The book is extremely dark, especially with the scenes with the older kids, but I couldn't put the book down, and the characters, for once, are so desperate and extreme as to seem slightly more than two-dimensional for once, and the ending only leaves you wanting more. Even if you're not a Remnants fan, this book should offer an interesting read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Only good for sci-fi fans
I read this book in one day and really enjoyed it. It has a intersting storyline and many deaths. If you like sci-fi books and surival books then you will enjoy this. One problem. Way to short. I finished this book in three hours. Still recommened it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Still got the same ol' feelin
Remants one opened up and had a pretty good story that I thought would open up an even greater series than the author's previous series, Animorphs and Everworld. Remnants ended up being wierd and started to get weirder and weirder by every book.
Now, the books started to level off after awhile, but then they returned to earth and things started to get wierder. This book has just thrown the series back into the wierd phase. I always used to get weirded out when i would read earlier remnant books(#2-#8). I would always feel wierded out and like i was in the twilight zone. I would have to psyche myself out before reading one of these books.
This book is interesting until they experience the "dream storm". This is described as a psychoenergetic storm or something like that. It isnt really plausible( even less so than previous things in remnants) It was kinda wierd and It got me disoriented towards the end of the book of where the characters really were and what was really happening.
I never really liked the nickname urself mindframe that seems to have taken over the kids. What happened to plain ol Roger, Jim, John, Samantha, or the like. It bothered me that some of the earth remnants(the ones that stayed behind) seemed to have stayed in that mindset but some of them had slightly normal names which somewhat pleased me.
Im just glad that were away from "mother" ( probably jsut temporarily) the end of the book promises that maybe it wont get as wierd as it was aboard mother and that the story can get more interesting.
Overall, this book was okay and I'm just reading the series to see what happens instead of being totally interested in the series. In the end, this book just left me with the same ol feelin. ... Read more

The end of the world. Not something most people think about. Not something we even expect to ever really happen. But what if you found out an asteroid the size of New Jersey were about to collide with the earth? What would you do?t's the year 2011, and that's the question Jobs is asking himself. The question he asked his family. He certainly didn't expect the answer he got. A shuttle that would leave Earth just before the asteroid destroys it. But there are a couple of catches: The shuttle has no ultimate destination; and all those aboard will be placed in a state of suspended animation---indefinitely.
